CT — The 2023 municipal election is heating up in East Haven and there are plenty of local races with candidates eager to serve in elected office
East Haven Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as Election Day draws near
Camposano is running for Mayor of East Haven
Project Manager for a residential remodeling construction company
I have a 4 year old son and two stepsons ages 16 and 19 with my girlfriend of 13 years
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government
Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government
I am running because I can’t trust the other candidates to do what needs to be done to protect our Town’s future
The people have no trust in our elected officials and if we continue to elect these same politicians year after year
I was born and raised in East Haven and I’m not going to sit back and let these political puppets destroy our Town
Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____
most transformative issue that we have ever faced in East Haven is the City of New Haven’s plan to relocate the entire Tweed Airport into East Haven’s wetlands
New Haven pulled out of a decade long agreement with East Haven so it could hand control of the airport over to Goldman Sachs
They have privatized our public airport with no local oversight
They plan on filling in our wetlands to build the terminal
parking garage and new entrance to the airport near Calabro Cheese
East Haven will not get any tax revenue from this deal
The only thing East Haveners will get is more traffic
Why are our representatives so quiet on this issue
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post
I would not have to run against them if they had just done their job
in what way has the current officeholder failed the community
His suspiciously weak leadership and lack of action in defending East Haven combined with the lack of transparency in the Town's spending
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign
There are limited resources for teens and young adults and an overall lack of community
Any resource used for the community is getting taken away
Such as the Skate Park that was torn down under a false narrative
and counseling services that were outsourced
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job
Running this campaign without the resources and money that the other candidates depend on is a great example
I can do what needs to get done efficiently
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions
I am an unaffiliated candidate and I don’t owe any favors to a political party
I will be an Advocate for our residents and do what needs to be done to protect our Town and steer us towards a better path

Hurricane Wilma’s explosive intensification stunned forecasters. Within 24 hours, it transformed from a tropical storm to a Category 5 cyclone with a peak wind speed of 184 miles per hour.
One of those tracking the storm was 10-year-old Samantha Camposano, a Collier County, Florida, girl who was fascinated by weather.
As Wilma crossed the Yucatán Peninsula and entered the Gulf of Mexico, Camposano logged onto the National Hurriane Center’s website to monitor the storm’s movement. She grew more apprehensive by the hour as the cyclone accelerated to the northeast toward Southwest Florida, with her hometown in its crosshairs.
“It was the same year Katrina hit New Orleans. I was only in the fifth grade then, but I knew the damage storms could wrought,” Camposano said of the then-2005 record-setting Atlantic hurricane season, which saw 28 named storms develop, including four Category 5 hurricanes, one of which was Wilma.
The storm would slam into Southwest Florida on Oct. 24, 2005, as a Category 3 hurricane, flooding streets, knocking out power, and tearing roofs off houses. “We got by with only minor damage, with uprooted vegetation being the worst of it,” Camposano said.
Seventeen years later, her fascination with storms hasn’t waned. Only now, her interest has far-reaching implications for the forecasting of, and preparation for, hurricanes.
As a senior research associate at the University of Miami’s Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS), Camposano puts new storm-forecasting tools and models through their paces, running them through a series of experiments and demonstrations before they even get into the hands of meteorologists.
“It’s like being given the keys to a million-dollar sports car,” the University of Miami double alumna said of her role in helping to test and evaluate emerging technologies that will improve hurricane forecasting. “Transitioning research findings into valuable operational tools is the part of hurricane research many people don’t see. But it couldn’t be more critical.”
Now in her second year at CIMAS, which is part of the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science, Camposano has tested everything from software that assists meteorologists in determining when to issue tropical cyclone wind watches and warnings to a cloud-based advanced weather information system that integrates meteorological and hydrological data with satellite and radar imagery.
While the genesis of Camposano’s interest in tropical cyclones can be traced back to the time when she was a little girl tracking storms on her desktop computer, her first serious investigation into hurricane research didn’t begin until she became a student at the Rosenstiel School.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in meteorology and marine science. Then, as a graduate student in the Master of Professional Science program, Camposano evaluated tropical cyclone vortex structure and steering flow and analyzed the effectiveness of an experimental version of NOAA’s Hurricane Weather Research and Forecasting computer model, finding that the model did not contain any biases in its storm predictions.
After she earned her master’s degree in 2018, Camposano worked briefly at the National Weather Service in Silver Spring, Maryland. But getting back to Miami was her goal.
“I knew that if I was going to be a hurricane researcher worth my salt, the Rosenstiel School was where I had to be,” she said. “Its proximity to world-class agencies like NOAA, which is just across the street, and having its own world-class labs and experts was too big a draw.”
Her research, she noted, carries with it the overarching goal of benefitting everyone.
“Our work doesn’t stop with forecasts,” Camposano said. “Our goal is to assess tools and products from a more holistic standpoint than ever before to help social scientists, broadcast meteorologists, emergency managers, first responders, and others. Our vision is to expand and to include the entire value chain of people who are involved, right down to the public.”

Eddie Camposano grew up in Massachusetts with a dad who served for 38 years with the Watertown
retiring in 1971 as the Assistant to the Chief of the Department
something Eddie and his entire family were very proud of
Camposano followed his love of baseball to Florida State University after being recruited there by no less than Baseball Hall of Famer Dick Howser
who was the first FSU baseball player ever named as an All-American Student Athlete in 1957
and would go on to a long distinguished career in professional baseball
It seems though the love of baseball ran in the family
Ed Camposano pitching in a Little League game
Bobbie Camposano in a Babe Ruth and Paul Camposano in a semi-pro game all pitched no hitters on the same day
It was at FSU where Ed Camposano would continue to excel in baseball as a pitcher for the Seminoles
and not before being able to throw one of the first games under the lights for the Seminoles
Camposano would go on to graduate from FSU in the spring of 1970 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education with hopes of moving back to his New England roots and teaching history at a local high school
at the time the State of Massachusetts would require another year of education from him prior to granting him his teaching certificate
Camposano chose to find a job for the next few years instead and married his wife Janet in 1973
prior to making the move south to Marco Island
who would make the move south shortly after his retirement in 1971
His brother Bobbie would make the move in 1979 as would his other brother David
all escaping the cold and bitter New England winters for the beautiful and warm waters surrounding Marco Island
his wife Janet and their daughter Jennifer came across the Judge S.S
Jolley Bridge they knew they had made the right choice
they added to their family a second daughter
Both daughters attended Tommie Barfield Elementary and Lely High School
Eddie Camposano would soon be working for Deltona Corporation and the Mackle Brothers who developed Marco Island
located at 209 South Collier Boulevard and he would be employed as the resident manager of the complex for Deltona Corporation
When the complex was turned over to the owners from the developers on April 1
Camposano would remain on as the manager and he continues to this day in that position
2018 Ed Camposano will have concluded over 41 years as the manager of that complex
To the knowledge of many familiar with condo management on the island
Camposano holds the record as the longest surviving manager of a complex anywhere that they have ever heard of
When you speak to many of Camposano’s peers
personality and willingness to please (even those that are somewhat of a challenge to deal with at times)
Camposano has been an all-around manager; lawns
pool maintenance and every segment of the maintenance of the property
This is something you don’t see in a manager today
“Most of all the services are outsourced today,” said longtime former condo manager Bill Holmes
past President of the Community Association Managers of Marco Island (CAMMI) “He was always a hands-on style of guy,” said Holmes
that style of manager is a disappearing breed throughout Florida; although there are a few
Most of the onsite managers have been replaced by large management companies
“Eddie is an inspiration to all the professional managers here on Marco Island
He has an outstanding work ethic that will probably never be duplicated here,” said Al Diaz who is another highly respected high-rise manager over at Hideaway Beach
the President of the Seawatch Board of Directors had glowing compliments for Camposano
She and her husband Eric have been owners there for 24 years now and have had the opportunity to view his style both as part-time owners and the last four years as fulltime residents
“We’ve been spoiled over all these years and have become comfortable knowing that we were all in good hands while under Ed’s leadership,” said Marx
Theresa Gibbons and her late husband Jack had been owners at Seawatch for over 10 years
When they moved to Marco Island as fulltime residents after retiring over 17 years ago they left Seawatch for a larger unit to accommodate visits from their children and grandkids
“Needless to say it was a sad day when we left
The owners and especially Ed were very special people; it was like a big family and Ed
his wife and two little girls were always part of that extended family unit,” said Gibbons
If you were to ask Camposano why he stayed on so long he wouldn’t hesitate to tell you that it was his enjoyment of the work and the people he’s dealt with over the 40 years he’s been on the island
“They gave me the necessary leeway to do my job and I can only hope that I haven’t disappointed them.” Camposano said
With Camposano being such a hands-on manager
Debbie Marx knew making a transition to a new person or company to handle the 80-unit complex might cause some angst amongst owners
She and the board would embark upon a deliberate process to evaluate all the options to fill the void created by Camposano’s desires to retire
In the effort to keep all the owner fully advised of the process and their choices they would hold a town hall-style of gathering to explain the thought process utilized and educate the owners to the transitioning which would be held to insure a seamless as possible change in management
“The greatest compliment we can give Ed is to simply say no one will ever replace Ed Camposano
as will his decency as a human being and style of management and his work ethic
its owners and their families will be missing one of their own,” said Debbie Marx

The first six articles in this series described the history of the EDA industry from its earliest beginnings to becoming the multi-billion-dollar heart of the semiconductor industry
Starting with one-off tools developed by various systems companies for their R&D departments developing circuit boards and ICs
the commercial EDA industry was ignited by the spark that was the Design Automation Conference
It then progressed through various phases starting with CAD companies
The evolved EDA companies grew through acquisition
and when there were very few small EDA startups left to gobble up
and Synopsys) entered the IP business and started acquiring companies in that domain as well
As a result of this evolution and acquisition
EDA design flows are now so complex that the Electronic System Design Alliance (ESDA) recognizes more than 60 different types of tools and IP used in IC and PCB design flows
I call the sum of these different types of tools and IP the EDA layer cake
Note that different design flows for different types of ICs made with process nodes contain different sets of layers
however the total number of layers presents quite an impressive stack of tools for design teams to use
In his YouTube video seminar for Stanford University’s EE380 class, titled “Electronic Design Automation and the Resurgence of Chip Design,” Raúl Camposano
CTO of Silvaco and a partner at semiconductor startup incubator Silicon Catalyst
summarizes the ESDA’s five categories for EDA tools:
which provide training and consulting for companies that need help with the EDA layer cake
Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools
defined as IC design tools working at the transistor level and above
This category includes gate- and system-level design tools
Printed circuit board (PCB) and multi-chip module (MCM) design tools
which get little attention in the IC-centric EDA world today
these tools remain essential for system design and all the major EDA vendors provide PCB design tools
IC Design and Verification tools for the physical design of ICs
These tools generate the IC layouts and layer masks needed for fabrication
a segment that did not exist 30 years ago but is now the largest of the five categories according to Camposano
thanks to the cellular phone industry’s nearly universal adoption of Arm processors
Although these five groups are useful for categorization at the 50,000-foot level
they mask the complexity of ESDA’s 60-layer cake that has become EDA
so here’s a more detailed and slightly collapsed itemization with some very abbreviated versions of ESDA’s descriptions:
1.1 Consulting services for modified or completed electronic designs

5.4 Embedded software including real-time operating systems
ESDA’s EDA layer cake reflects the need to bring some order to the result of more than four decades worth of tool and IP development by the major EDA players and countless EDA and IP startup companies
It’s a deep and complex mix of products and services offered to IC independent device manufacturers (IDMs)
the entire EDA market is currently worth about $14 billion annually and now grows at the same rate as the semiconductor industry as a whole
the major EDA players are presently looking for ways to break out of the electronics market and into even bigger arenas to support the growth rates they’ve enjoyed in prior years
That’s the topic of the eighth and final article in this series

After a mechanical failure at June’s Formula SAE competition
USC Racing wins first place at a recent SoCal competition
USC’s Formula SAE Racing team competes at the 2nd Annual SoCal Shootout in Riverside
On Saturday, October 19, 2019, the day of the 2ndannual SoCal Shootout, the USC Racing team’s car would not start
After identifying the issue—the ECU or engine’s computer needed to be replaced—the team waited for one of its members to transport a spare ECU from campus to Riverside
While the other teams had been churning laps since 10am that morning
USC Racing was only able to compete in the final heat of racing
USC Racing’s steel space frame took first place at UC Riverside’s race competition
which showcased the engineering of 11 teams at the Adams Motorsports Park
USC Racing was 1.7 seconds faster than the second-place team
which is almost 80% of the speed astronauts reach at takeoff
USC Racing first debuted this car in Lincoln, Nebraska for the official Formula SAE competition in June
With 13-inch wheels and a four-cylinder Yamaha R6 engine
with better vehicle dynamics and drivability
“During the official Formula SAE competition in Lincoln
we experienced a mechanical failure during the endurance portion—the most important event
We were unable to meet our target goal in 2019 of being in the top 15
By finishing and winning the SoCal Shootout
we were able to get redemption and more importantly
validate and prove the engineering designs we came up with last year,” said Philip Camposano
USC Racing took home first place after beating out ten other teams from SoCal and Arizona in the SoCal Shootout
the team battled various fueling and electrical issues
“It took endless troubleshooting and determination to get the car running properly,” said Maximillian Bui
project manager for USC Racing and USC Viterbi mechanical engineering and engineering management double major
“By 9pm we finally got the car running perfectly—or so we thought
Competition day began with hours of troubleshooting
which resulted in the team replacing the ECU—the engine’s computer—just in time to compete
Said Bui: “With the car finally functioning properly
we set the fastest lap in the last heat of racing
The biggest takeaway was working as a cohesive team to troubleshoot the issues we faced and work together towards a solution
The fact that we ended up winning despite the challenges we faced was a great achievement and relief.”
Participating university racing teams included teams from Chico State
UC Riverside and the University of Arizona
“The other teams had great designs that pushed us to perform well and from which we learned a lot
which results in the many different ways teams approach the design of their vehicles
You’ll see all sorts of car packages from 1-cylinder turbo-charged engines to 4-cylinder ones
cars that weigh just over 300 pounds to cars that weigh around 500 pounds
and cars with steel chassis to full carbon fiber monocoques,” said Camposano
the team is finishing designs for its next car
USC Racing will compete again in June 2020 at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana
This victory in Riverside gave them the boost they needed to move forward
Said Camposano: “It was a great motivator for the team
because this was the first event we have ever won and through which we’ve proved the potential of our engineering.”
A Filipina has qualified to join the ranks of the country’s elite jet fighter pilots
the Philippine Air Force (PAF) announced on Thursday
Camposano-Beran qualified to fly into combat using the SIAI-Marchetti AS-211 light jet combat aircraft
which the PAF also uses in attack and surveillance missions
“The PAF made history (by) having its own
first-ever female fighter pilot on March 30
2022 from the 5th Fighter Wing at Basa Air Base
Camposano-Beran was checked out as the first female AS-211 combat mission ready pilot and wingman,” he added
Mariano said Camposano-Beran first flew alone or went “solo” in the AS-211 on December 5
“May (she had) 150 plus hours na siya sa (in flying the) AS-211,” he added in a message to the Philippine News Agency
Mariano said Camposano-Berran underwent the “Jet Qualification Training” and the so-called “Intro To Fighter Fundamentals and Combat Crew Training” both in the AS-211
are done to ensure that fighter pilot trainees like Camposano-Beran will not only know how to fly the aircraft but will also allow them to learn about fighting air-to-air
she was also flying with the FA-50 as a backseat pilot and (becoming) combat experience having flown in the FA-50 on an actual strike mission,” he added
Once Camposano-Beran will get more experience and flying time in the AS-211
she will transition or transfer to the FA-50PHs
This will take place once she acquires 300 hours in the AS-211
The FA-50PH is the PAF’s primary jet fighter capable of speeds of Mach 1.5 and was acquired from South Korea in 2015 up to 2017
Camposano-Beran during her training at the PAF Flying School flew the propeller-driven T-41D or the Cessna R-172 during the primary phase of her training and then the SIAI-Marchetti SF-260MP in the Basic Phase of her military pilot training
she gained around 180 hours of flying time in the two propeller-driven aircraft before graduating in 2017
Cotabato and a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 2015
“She became the fifth female in the Academy to receive the Athletic Saber Award over 170 members of her class,” he added
Mariano said that two more female pilots are presently undergoing fighter pilot training
