is incomparable: not that it is not always a spectacle
known for an administrative management that brought events of international stature here long ago
Miriam and Antonio Magistro have given birth to Pepe Rosa
They did this in the context of a modern and functional facility
creating a restaurant project that challenges a restaurant world that is rather traditionalist in its gastronomic expression with its cuisine
a decidedly eclectic 37-year-old who does not lack an authentic gourmand spirit
told us how he took his first steps practically in the dark: "I've been doing this job for 10 years
in 2016 I opened the first restaurant downtown
I got into the hospitality business from the ground up
I didn't even know what a glass was (laughs)
although as a boy I always wanted to have a restaurant
pushed me to open a first small restaurant with eight tables
I have to be well prepared." So Antonio attended the F&B management course at Alma and other training areas
until he became a trainer himself: “I also learned a lot from my mistakes
is recruited to make a stronger leap toward fine dining
it is worth trying.” Nothing is lacking at Pepe Rosa
starting with the elegance of the interior spaces with the beautiful windows and understated style (which
on the right days cannot compete with the live sunset overlooking the harbor)
Miriam's tempting brother-in-law and husband
six hundred and fifty labels with Sicily and Etna in the foreground but with ample references from the rest of Italy and France and other important wine areas from around the world
Then if someone was looking for satisfaction in some blended wines
The chef is a young man who here at Pepe Rosa has had his first direct responsibility for a kitchen
amusedly tells us how his story as a chef began almost by chance: “Compared to many of my colleagues who perhaps tell us that they took this path thanks to their mother's or grandmother's cooking
I found myself in it because at school I would have liked to choose anything else
but in the end I decided on hotel management with the excuse that maybe there was less studying
Then I started doing my first internships in the kitchens
I got hooked and that's where it all started
When I finished school I started to travel
then to Positano to Le Sirenuse in the year the star arrived with Matteo Temperini."
in Naples at Comandante with Salvatore Bianco
After the pandemic "I took the ball and went to Therasia in Vulcano
did two 2 years there at Cappero with Giuseppe Biuso as sous chef
I decided to move closer to home and I found Antonio
a very dynamic person who relieved me a lot with the new experience as chef
aware of a path that has started well and at the same time always in search of stimulation: “Every kitchen is a world of its own
I have absorbed a lot from my experiences and made my own thinking
because I am of the opinion that without training there is no future: you risk standing still
Capo d'Orlando is definitely not an easy place for such a big project
but the goal is important and the fact that I can bring something different here
stimulates me and gives me the strength to move forward and do better and better."
His is a cuisine that does not disdain blending
so in addition to ingredients from the island
there are elements that can come from anywhere
with oriental references and a constant dash of acidity to gracefully lighten his recipes
and the remarkable experiments with cured meats and fish charcuterie are successful
served with excellent self-produced bread and a lemon-ginger kombucha that mitigates the intensity
tomato water and ricotta forte: aside there is a crostone of bread and oregano for scarpetta
It could not miss a Km0 product (the name of the dish)
in which the roasted eggplant is glazed with its own water
goat cheese and fermented prickly pear sauce
"Sinfonia di cocomero" involves the use of an osmosis watermelon cooked on barbecue
whipped buttermilk sauce and crispy caviar: the result
The Plin of fresh pasta stuffed with lobster with its garum and lemon also definitely convinces
It is served with shellfish butter and some mouthwatering Iberian pork stew patties
with the finishing touch of a sauce of Parmigiano Reggiano aged over 100 months
The strings of flavors also vibrate for Green rice with bear garlic
kefir and homemade smen (this is a fermented salted butter
an important ingredient in Middle Eastern and Maghreb cuisine
Tonkatsu is a succulent Mangalica pork rib
its own stock and melting spring onion; the meat is smoked at the table with maritime pine cones and thyme
It has rightly become a signature dish because of its great personality
it is matured 100 days and accompanied with carob caramel and fermented leek water hollandaise; to top it off
a diploma from Alma and experience at Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence with pastry chef Francesco Federici
at Berton in Milan and at Mori Venice Bar in Paris
Remarkable is his version of Piňa colada with oxidized pineapple
a veil of the same fruit marinated in rum and coconut-mint sauce

Francesco Federico – direttore sportivo dello Yacht Club Capo d’Orlando
Procida e – appunto – Capo d’Orlando

11 June 2024) – At the request of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Palermo (Italy)
a freezing order of over €190 000 was executed last week (5 June 2024) against a farmer suspected of misappropriation of EU agricultural funds
equivalent to the value of the estimated damage
the suspect successfully applied for over €190 000 in EU agricultural funds between 2017 and 2021
by falsely declaring ownership and possession of land in the Sicilian provinces of Messina and Syracuse
he misled the Italian Agricultural Payments Agency (Agenzia per le erogazioni in agricoltura – AGEA)
The investigation also revealed that the land parcels were actually owned by unaware individuals
or designated for ‘pasture grazing’ – which does not qualify for EU agricultural funds
the judge for preliminary investigations of the Court of Patti issued a freezing order of assets for the sums unduly received
which was executed by the Italian Financial Police in Capo d’Orlando (Tenenza di Capo d’Orlando della Guardia di Finanza).
All persons concerned are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in the competent Italian courts of law

The yellow and blacks trained by coach Gianluigi Galetti are masters of their own destiny, they have built the chance to extend the season thanks to the victory obtained in the last round with Lumezzane. Imola and Brescia have the same points in the standings, but the yellow and blacks are 2-0 in direct clashes and it is for this reason that winning on the Island would access the first appendix of the post season.
After having secured safety well in advance, Virtus is now playing for the chance of not going on holiday straight away, landing at the play in it would be a further step of growth for Galetti's group, the players, the club and those fans who will be in Capo d'Orlando today alongside the yellow and black colors.
This evening Virtus will face a top-ranked team, the Sicilians are fourth behind Treviglio, San Vendemiano and Legnano, the score of 23 victories in 37 matches is top-notch and speaks volumes about the strength of the group coached by Domenico Bolignano.
An important match also for Capo d'Orlando who must maintain their current position, the home team have the same points as Omegna and Mestre (46) and by winning they would maintain fourth place which leads to having the home field advantage in the playoffs to go up to Serie A2.
There is a challenging match on the horizon, in a very hot sports hall where there will be no shortage of spectators for big occasions. Winning in Sicily is never easy and it won't be this time either.
The challenge will be directed by Andrea Bernassola and Giorgio Silvestri, both coming from Rome. Today is the last match of the regular season, in the next few days, if the tournament has seen the curtain fall, the club will begin to outline the next corporate scenarios with the possible farewell of president Davide Fiumi.

Link copiedShareShare articleHomicide Squad detectives are investigating after a woman's body was found floating in the water at Fremantle Harbour.
Police said the body was found early on Sunday morning near Capo D'Orlando Drive in South Fremantle, which is popular with charter boat companies and recreational fishers.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg McDonald from the Homicide Squad said the circumstances in which the woman's body was found raised significant concerns.
"Earlier this morning, shortly after 5am, a member of the public located the body of a woman floating in the Fremantle Harbour," he said.
"We believe the circumstances surrounding the lady's death and...the location in the harbour raise suspicion and the homicide squad are investigating at this point."

Police have now identified the deceased woman, but did not release her name publicly.
Detective Senior Sergeant McDonald said police were focusing their efforts on trying to establish what her movements were prior to her death.

The detective senior sergeant would not comment as to whether the woman had any visible injuries, and when asked if she appeared to be a younger woman, he said it was "a little difficult to say at this point".
"She is a woman not a child, I think that's probably the safest thing for me to say at this point, so her age is not clear to us at this point," he said.

Detective Senior Sergeant McDonald said forensic officers were on their way to the scene and said the fact her body was found in water could pose some challenges.
"It does make things more difficult, however as I said, it's very early in the investigation so we don't know precisely what evidence we might recover but we'll be very thorough in what we do.
"There's obviously a lot of work for us to do here, we've got quite a wide canvas going on to look for witnesses and any CCTV opportunities that may exist so that's a focus for us now as well."
The woman's body has been removed from the scene.
Detective Senior Sergeant McDonald said a number of vehicles found in the area would remain within the crime scene until it was known whether they were involved.

But at the same time consider his journey with Virtus closed, remaining only a fan. In these years of National B series, V Imolese has become in its own way, also thanks to Davide Fiumi, an important reality for organization at a sporting level. Once the season is over, we will move towards a change of president, and most likely the entry of a new name who can take over from Fiumi. The timing will depend on how much Galetti and his men will be able to extend the 2024/2025 competitive season.

An increasing number of people are applying for European dual citizenship
People who are trying to get dual citizenship face a long road
and the costs add up too — but if you’re trying to travel for an extended period of time
it could be an investment for yourself and future generations
“My grandfather came from a very small village in the hills just outside Capo D’Orlando,” said Andrew Bodewes
who sought dual citizenship with Italy.
Knowing your history came later in life for Andrew Bodewes
“My grandfather [Charles Crossed] never really shared where he was from,” he said
Crossed came to America from Southern Italy
but he and his family weren’t exactly welcomed
and never wanted his family to identify necessarily as Italian,” Bodewes explained.
I wish an airplane would just drop me in Frazzano
and it says he was a laborer," Bodewes pointed out on a piece of paper
"He was 18 years old and he had $8 in his pocket.”
Bodewes’ mother wanted to connect with that past and get her Italian citizenship
Eventually they found documents connecting Fragale as Crossed
they are in for the long haul,” said attorney Caterina Ranieri
whose whole job is dual citizenship services
“The number one number of clients that I get are Italian
Right behind them are Irish," she said
"Greek is coming to the forefront as well.”
getting documents proving your lineage can be complex
“The New York State Department of Health will not give you the birth certificate of a deceased parent or grandparent who was born outside the five boroughs without a court order,” she said
with 'Giuseppe,' then he changed his name to Joe
“I would say at least 100%," Ranieri said
for her it’s a way to honor past generations.
“I feel like I take the history of my clients' ancestors
and I realign their history,” she said. “I set it right.”
so I'm excited to go for the first time as an Italian citizen,” he said
He’s not sure he’ll enter with that passport though.
so I might have to wait in the longer line on the American side with her,” he said with a smile
and dozens of Crossed/Fragale’s other grandkids
“All of that is based on the proof that now is at the consulate in New York that shows that Charles Crossed it is really Ignacio Fragale," Bodewas said
"He left us a great gift to be able to have dual citizenship and I feel like it's just a very neat honor."
You should know if you qualify for dual citizenship before looking for help from a U.S
attorney because that’s another country’s system.
There are also some countries that won’t allow you to hold multiple citizenships

Wallace spent the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons a key player with Eisbaren Bremerhaven of the German "A" Bundesliga
he was selected as an all-star in Germany's top divison after averaging 11 points and nearly eight rebounds per game while leading Bremerhaven to the league playoffs
The 6-10 Wallace's inside-outside game proved to be a difficult matchup for Tiger opponents throughout the Atlanta native's Princeton career
he finished his career 16th on the team's all-time scoring list
located on the Northeastern coast of the island of Sicily
is entering its third season as a member of the A1 League
Wallace is now one of two former Princetonians playing in Italy's A1 Division

Work will begin by early next year on a $6.2 million project to reclaim land at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour to deliver improved services and pedestrian access in the southern part of the facility
has awarded a contract to Western Australian based and owned company Advanteering for the works that will also allow for the future construction of a penholder facility at the harbour
Advanteering have a number of local marine projects to their credit
including in North Fremantle at the Water Police complex
The company’s contract will see the existing southern land backed wharf along Capo D’Orlando Drive extended to create a new platform for the future building
The works will also deliver pedestrian improvements with a new dedicated pedestrian path along Capo D’Orlando Drive
services and lighting upgrades and landscaping to improve public amenity and increase safety for users and visitors to the harbour
Local Fremantle MLA Simone McGurk said –
“It’s fantastic to see continued investment into the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour
which remains an important tourist attraction for our community and our State
“The investment we’re making to improve facilities will ensure the harbour remains an attractive option for boaties
including those wanting to access Rottnest Island.”
This project adds to the State Government’s planned investment at the iconic location with the multimillion-dollar replacement of the nearby Jetty 3 which started earlier this year and the planned $5.9 million electrical upgrade at the harbour announced as part of the WA Recovery Plan in 2020
In July, the Government also released its draft master plan for the future development of the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour and the adjoining Challenger and Success Harbours

Princess 54 owner Robert Prevezer enjoys an 800nm adventure to southern Italy
Regular readers may remember the last article I wrote about our voyage from the South of France to Gaeta
We were searching for new boating horizons and we certainly found what we were looking for
With no disrespect to the French (we had some fabulous times there)
we have come to love the Italian culture – the food
the family atmosphere and the warm welcomes
window._taboolaSlots=window._taboolaSlots||[];window._taboolaSlots.push({"mode":"thumbnails-a-mid","container":"taboola-mid-article","placement":"Mid Article","target_type":"mix"});
Thus far we have enjoyed two seasons cruising the Pontine Islands
Our Princess 54 L’amitié has given us everything we wanted – reliable and relaxed cruising with ample space and comfort for our three grown-up children and any visiting friends
Robert’s Princess 54 L’amitié berthed in the shadow of Tropea’s historic buildings
This is now our sixth season together and she seems able to cope with all sea conditions effortlessly
We have always believed in preventative maintenance and we follow Volvo Penta’s service guidelines to the letter
Gaeta hasn’t proved as much of a bargain as we had hoped
The mooring fees are cheaper than the French Riviera
but the boatyard costs are just as expensive
Leaving the boat for the winter anywhere overseas is always an act of faith so good communications are crucial and in this respect Gaeta has worked well for us
The obvious answer was to keep on heading south
The rough plan was to cruise down to the toe of Italy
explore the Aeolian Islands then hop across to the north coast of Sicily before heading west to the Egadi Islands – just a small voyage of around 800nm
restricting each stage of the cruise to 10-12 days so we could come back to the UK regularly to recover from our exertions and catch up with other interests
Key to this adventure was to take it slowly and enjoy the moment
stopping off whenever and wherever we fancied
Boating always brings its challenges and reading the pages of MBY you’d think it’s all plain sailing
It rarely pans out that way and sure enough our departure was delayed by a faulty battery charger that was ‘over-cooking’ our domestic batteries and burning them out
the weather finally improved in June and as we reached the Amalfi Coast
Some of the on-shore experiences contributed massively to the overall pleasure of the cruise
But not the Amalfi most tourists are familiar with
If you walk through the over-crowded town and follow the only street heading uphill
you eventually come to the Paper Mill Museum
cross the road and you start the steep climb to a place of wonder – the Valle delle Ferriere
The path takes you on a magical trek past a multitude of lemon groves
to a stunning forest with fast-flowing streams
My daughter said it was like something from Narnia
L’amitié on a visitor’s buoy outside Positano during their cruise along the Amalfi coast
We crossed the bay of Salerno and at Agropoli we visited Paestum
the site of one of the biggest preserved Greek temples in Europe
is extraordinary for one particular reason; it is the age-defying town where over 10% of the population lives to 100 or more
The reason for this anomaly still isn’t fully understood but the Acciarolian love of locally-grown rosemary (the inspiration behind the launch of Rosemary Water in the UK) is rumoured to play a part
It is rare to find a truly awful port in Italy but Camerota was the exception to the rule
we motored cautiously through the heavily silted port entrance past garbage piled high
to be directed to a berth in an area of the port that was thick with sewage and all kinds of unmentionable debris
Unfortunately it was too late in the day to leave and we stayed the night
paying for the pleasure in a charmless marina office filled with personnel who made no apologies for the state of the port
after Camerota came the beautiful villages of Scario
Our final leg of this journey took us to Tropea
a delightful ancient town perched high on a cliff
and a port that has undergone huge improvements
Having casually asked where we could buy seven cases of bottled water to replenish supplies
having bought and carried the water for us from the local supermarket
Emily takes L’Amitie’s helm on another glorious Italian day
we returned to pick up the trail by cruising to the Aeolian Islands
somewhere I’d been longing to visit for years
each very different to the other with their own unique characteristics
From the actively steaming and sulphurous-smelling Vulcano to the one-village island of Panarea with its spectacular midnight waterfront fireworks festival and the tiny bolt-hole of Filicudi
which is home to nothing but a solitary beach restaurant
Salina was a haven of tranquil beauty while Lipari bustled with activity
We even took time out to visit the brooding island of Stromboli
proving a little too remote for our liking
But it was on Stromboli that we had the most extraordinary and memorable experience
The tiny port of Maretea in Southern Italy en route to Sicily and the Aeolian islands
We had heard that the island was worth a visit and in particular a restaurant located halfway up the active volcano crater
Having been taken by buggy up to the open-air restaurant
it looked like any other outdoor Mediterranean eatery with 100 or so people enjoying a romantic candlelit dinner
the deep rumble that emanated from the ground every 15 minutes followed by visible flames erupting just above where we were sitting
It was only the calm way in which everyone carried on with their next course that convinced us all was as it should be
after we had arrived at the neighbouring island of Filicudi
our phones burst into life with dozens of messages from friends and family asking if we were still alive
the volcano had a major eruption for the first time in 100 years
Tragically a tourist was killed and everyone on the island had to flee for their lives
With the prospect of a further eruption and the unlikely but possible eventuality of a tsunami
we spent a very uneasy night at anchor watching and waiting for further news
The family experienced a very close call with a brooding Stromboli
which erupted a matter of hours after their visit
Thankfully we awoke the next morning to find nothing more serious than a fine layer of black ash covering the hull
Our next leg took us across to Sicily and along its northern coast
Sicily is a very big island – almost 150 nautical miles from east to west
Along the way we found the relatively new port of Capo d’Orlando offering great facilities and incredibly helpful staff
The only drawback as a place to leave the boat for an extended stay is the 2.5-hour journey to either Catania or Palermo airports
The north coast is beautiful but not blessed with many places to overnight
We found a mooring in the small port and spent a delightful two days exploring this beautiful historic town
We were warned that Palermo in August is unbearably hot and crowded with tourists so we decided to bypass it making a mental note to re-visit in spring or autumn
Almost by accident we came upon a very special place
San Vito Lo Capo – a stunning location and a tiny port
We were so enamoured by the place and the helpful port staff
that we took the risk of leaving L’Amitie there for a few weeks on a floating pontoon
but very simple and basic with a multitude of great restaurants and lovely people
On our return we pressed on to the Egadi Islands
These are entirely unspoilt and we loved them so much that we actually made two trips here
The tranquil fishing village of Scilla on the toe of Italy just a short hop across from Sicily
One of the many attractions of the islands is that they form part of a marine reserve with managed mooring buoys
You can either pay a flat fee for the duration of your visit or pay as you go
We didn’t have any trouble finding a free one and knowing that they are 100% secure made for very relaxed overnight stays
Marettimo and Favignana – all very different
The port in Levanzo is not for visiting boats but there is a choice of beautiful bays in which you can pick up a mooring buoy
The island is famous for the Grotta del Genovese caves
Marettimo has a very small port for visitors but we chose another mooring buoy in a beautiful bay
Everything was white-washed and picture perfect
past extended families eating their dinner outside on long trestle tables
Even the water is the colour of emeralds off Levanzo
the jewel in the crown of the Egadi Islands
The restaurant we settled on was Il Viliero – a big
well-lit family affair with tables overlooking the sea
Favignana was the most developed of the Egadi Islands – although that’s not saying much
picturesque village with cobblestone streets and two central squares
There are plenty of restaurants to choose from
all bustling with tourists but not unpleasantly so
We moored up to one of the two competing managed jetties
The staff were helpful and the port has an unusual backdrop of an abandoned tuna fishing factory
once the predominant industry of the Egadi Islands
we found lots of beautiful bays to stop in
all with the same secure buoys for safe overnighting
The Prevezers take their time picking the perfect spot to drop anchor for lunch
By the time October arrived my top priority was where to leave the boat for the winter
Of the places we’d visited thus far Capo d’Orlando on the north coast of Sicily seemed like the best option but this would mean retracing our steps for three days of cruising
we could carry on cruising round to the south coast of Sicily and hope to find somewhere there
we decided to take dramatic action and head north-west across the sea to Sardinia
We had been recommended a suitable port there by a friend at Ottiolu on the north-east coast of the island and this seemed the safest bet
It’s a leap of faith leaving your pride and joy somewhere unfamiliar so the reassurance that there was ‘a man’ there who could be trusted to look after L’Amitié over the winter convinced us to make the trip
Robert’s son Ben does the evening honours with hose and scrubbing brush in hand
Although I consider ourselves quite brave motor boat owners
seven hours of which would be out of sight of land
I double and triple checked the fuel consumption figures for the Princess 54; in theory with full tanks and cruising at an average speed of 20 knots we should have enough fuel to keep the two 800hp Volvo D13s running for 13 hours
We checked every weather forecast available and after a day’s delay for strong winds, we set off. It turned out to be a blissfully uneventful cruise with my wife and daughter both taking stints at the helm to help us all stay focused. With the autopilot engaged and no sign of any boats, long-distance cruising can become quite mesmerising so changing helm positions regularly was important
Watching the sea for debris and monitoring the engines’ oil pressure and temperature
and double-checking the plotter against the old-fashioned dashboard compass requires some concentration
if our heading was out by a few degrees we could end up in Tunis
Catching sight of land after a long cruise is always exciting
Is it actually land you are seeing through the haze or just your imagination
And will you arrive where you’d planned to
And even though you think you’re almost there
it is still another two hours before you actually reach port
The final three days of our epic voyage was spent cruising north along the east coast of Sardinia
we faced the strongest head winds of our entire four-month journey
and by the time we finally reached Ottiolu
as the very last moments of daylight faded
the capitainerie had been monitoring our progress and welcomed us in with a warm greeting before helping us secure our boat for the winter
It had been a wonderful few months exploring parts of Italy that not all boaters reach and the real joy is knowing that it’s not over yet
We are already planning on exploring Sardinia in 2020 and beyond that
but we can’t see ourselves moving L’Amitié from Italy any time soon

The TimesYou can’t help but wonder: why did it take us so long to find it
Because just about every Mediterranean civilisation has washed across Sicily’s shores
they all grew fat on this large island’s rich volcanic farmland
gradually bequeathing it one of the most deeply layered cultures in southern Europe
And yet it’s only recently that us Brits — educated
or so we claim — have added Sicily to our must-visit list
“In the mid-2010s we saw a surge in interest,” says Eleanor Poulton at Villatravellers
the Sicilian villa-holiday specialist now has 65 properties on its books and reports growing demand for a more rustic-luxe style of holiday let
with their light-touch refurbishments leaving old walls knobbly and pergolas draped with vines
Combine two or three of these with the glittering mosaics of Palermo’s Palatine Chapel and ancient Greek temples around Agrigento and you’ve got the makings of one of the Mediterranean’s most fascinating — and surprising — fly-drives
Recent big-news launches on Sicily’s coast are also changing the scene
the eco-sensitive offspring of an Alpine hotel group
now revitalised as a Four Seasons property and from next month
appearing on our TV screens in the second series of HBO’s White Lotus
Add Sicily’s gobsmacking scenery into the mix and it’s clear why the island is so desirable right now: desirable enough even for Mick Jagger
who purchased a villa near the island’s southern tip last year
and the warm weather holds until early November
meaning it’s not too late for a last-minute jaunt if you can’t wait until next spring
here are 25 of the island’s loveliest holiday properties

The former Syracuse and Jamesville-DeWitt guard sustained the injury during the first game of the Italian Serie A2 championship series
He said he “chipped a bone” in his right fibula (near his knee) about three minutes into that pivotal series
His Capo d’Orlando team was subsequently swept 3-0 in the series
That championship series loss deprived CdO of the right to advance to the A1 league - Italy’s best division - and sent De Longhi Treviso instead
Triche returned to the United States last week and stayed a couple nights in New York with Boeheim’s Army general manager Kevin Belbey before heading home to Syracuse
He has been prohibited from running and jumping for about three weeks while the bone heals and an MRI confirms its repair
Since he has been home, he has been visiting a sauna twice a day to stretch and maintain his core strength. Working out in the sauna, he said, allows him to build a sweat and maintain his weight. He expects to start swimming within the next week. He also expects to play for Boeheim’s Army when The Basketball Tournament begins next month.
“I’m fine. I feel good,” Triche said during a Monday morning phone conversation. “I’m just waiting for the bone to heal. But how I’m feeling, I believe everything will be fine."
“It sounds like everything is on schedule," Belbey said. “I’m expecting Brandon to play -- it’s just a matter of getting his body right.”

had authored a memorable season abroad before the injury
He was the A2 league player of the year and guard of the year
He won MVP honors in each of Capo d’Orlando’s first two playoff series and was named to the A2 playoff all-star team
He averaged 24.1 points and 7.1 assists per game
who has always been brutally honest about the state of his game
characterized his 2019-20 season as “good” and “consistent.” He shot 50 percent overall
36 percent from the 3-point line and 79.3 percent from the free-throw line
“But my lows didn’t affect my (scoring) numbers; it did affect my percentages
At the end of the season I played really good
The last three months I averaged like 30 points per game.”
Triche hopes to parlay his successful season into a chance to play for a “high-level” team next year
He expects to have about five more seasons left in his basketball prime and wants to optimize his skills during that span
Belbey said he has watched game videos of Triche in Italy and believes he is brimming with confidence and playing at a high level
Boeheim’s Army will play its first game July 26 at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena

Syracuse, N.Y. — Jonny Flynn, the former Syracuse University basketball point guard, has signed with an Italian professional team, according to reports
The hip seems to be a constant source of concern for potential pro teams
You might recognize the Capo d'Orlando name. Brandon Triche's Trento team swept Capo d'Orlando in three games to win the Italian Gold League championship. Triche scored 43 points in the decisive game of the series
He has moved on to represent Rome this season
He has told reporters over the years that his hip is completely healed
though others have suggested he has never regained the quickness or explosiveness that defined his game at SU
Flynn has not played in the NBA since 2012
After reaching the championship round of the Gold League last season, both Trento and Capo d'Orlando were promoted to Serie A, the highest professional basketball league in Italy. Barring injuries or some other unfortunate circumstance, Flynn and Triche are scheduled to play against each other for the first time on Oct

“We’re chasing first place in the league with two games remaining in the season,” Triche said in a What’s App conversation
“We’re currently tied for first place but the first-place team has the tie-breaker
We’re hoping for the first-place team to lose one or two games with us winning our last two.”
He’s shooting 45 percent overall and 36.8 percent from the 3-point line
numbers he said have decreased since his move to point guard
Triche was named the A2′s Player of the Week for last week’s 35-point
when Capo D’Orlando defeated Bertram Tortona 104-84
Triche went 7-for-13 from the 3-point line in that game
but said he was amenable to assuming point guard duties
he made 49 percent of his shots inside the arc and 40 percent of his shots outside the 3-point line

When we asked recently what Italy is doing about the shocking level of plastic pollution on its coastline
one reader in Sicily wrote to tell us the answer
American teacher Sandra Ravi moved to the Sicilian coast last year and
shocked by the pollution she found on the island's beaches
“I have never regarded myself as an environmentalist,” she says
“but I can see that we must do something now.”
is often covered in all kinds of trash and debris
My daily long walks on the beach became clean-up sessions,” she says
Sandra walks along the beach picking up rubbish – much to the surprise of other local residents
“The beach is visible from the lungomare and the coast road runs alongside it,” she says
“this means people can see you when you are on the beach picking up litter
I've had people ask me all sorts of questions in a very puzzled tone: “Are you getting paid to do that?” “Why are you picking it up if you didn't put it there?”
She describes finding the beach littered with household items like disposable razors and toilet brushes
She finds everything from discarded fishing equipment to shoes
and even old fridges or boilers lying on the beach
“It's not difficult to tell the origins of all this
some gets thrown into the sea from boats and some is left on the beach,” she says
Rubbish dumped by the beach in Capo D'Orlando
She first noticed the rubbish washed up on the beach after the big storms
there are no such storms and instead the rubbish has invariably been dumped by beachgoers
“People think all this plastic rubbish washes ashore from elsewhere
They don't see that it's the people that throw anything and everything in the sea or leave it on the beach in the first place,” she says
“I see people leaving their rubbish behind on the beach every day
It's a stab in the back each time I pick up a pizza box or a plastic bottle.”
“People think it's always someone else's fault,” she says
And though passers-by are curious about her litter-picking
“We organised a beach clean-up back in April during Earth Day
which attracted just about ten people,” she adds
Local authorites and environmental groups haven't helped either
“We've asked the town hall to monitor the beaches and prevent the bins from becoming heaps of endless bags filled with plastic bottles
We got an answer this time on Facebook saying they will act soon.”
Sandra may not be able to stop people dumping their rubbish
but she says being confronted with the mess on the beach every day has opened her eyes
and I've become aware of how much rubbish we produce."
she says her daily walks remain “a wonderful experience
knowing I'm doing something to help clean up this plastic mess.”
She remains hopeful that more and more people are waking up to the scale of the problem and starting to take action
a few people in town are now picking up litter
and posting about it on Facebook,” she says
What I mean is picking up a plastic bottle if you see one on the beach
Next time you go for a stroll take a plastic bag and collect any plastics you find."
"It doesn't take much to start being proactive."

A bolt from the blue struck Sicilian basketball this afternoon of quarantine: Peppe Sindoni
announced his farewell to the militant company in the A2 championship
reading the words of the executive it is easy to understand how the news had been in the air for some time
although few expected such a communication at this time
all the fans and those who defined his colors
Thanks to all of you for believing in my dream
the attachment he has towards Capo d'Orlando was what prompted him to marry this project with all of himself
it is clear that in recent times more than one thing has not gone the right way
the downward trend of the Orlandina has begun
characterized by infinite changes in the roster of the paladins
with a narrow promotion both in the regular season and in the playoffs
in a championship distorted by the stain of Siena's exclusion
we would be talking about another story (not forgetting the injuries that devastated that formation)
It ended with the total failure of this year
during which Coach Sodini's boys found themselves fighting against the bogeyman of Serie B
Sindoni has always distinguished himself admirably
winning the first of best manager of the LBA 2016/17
he led Capo d'Orlando to the Final Eight of the Italian Cup
to the Scudetto playoffs and to qualification for the Champions League
Even in the dark years of his he made absolutely praiseworthy choices
the pair of Americans he selected to drag the blue-and-whites up to the final promotion against Treviso
although he had a reduced budget compared to previous transfer market campaigns
I'm referring to Jordan Parks and Brandon Triche
two farsighted catches who made Orlandina's fortunes in the past championship
with the first contributing to the cause of De Longhi Treviso this year and the second finding space in Pinar Karsiyaka (team full of former "Italians")
at the top of the Turkish championship at the time of the interruption
the economic hardships just mentioned they may have been one of the reasons that prompted Peppe Sindoni to leave his home
The mirror of these difficulties was the performance of the roster assembled this year
initially assembled on two Americans who disappeared early
Brice Johnson and the body of Terance Kinsey
Sindoni had still left his mark to save the situation
with the duo getting the Sicilians out of trouble
at least until the suspension of the dances
with which I would like to summarize the work of the sporting director from Orland
who amazed everyone with numbers surprising (almost 19 on average)

Police were called to Capo D'Orlando Drive in South Fremantle after a member of the public found the woman's remains in the water off the end of a groyne in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The area is popular with charter boat companies and recreational fishers, and not far from the Fremantle Sailing Club.
Detectives were initially unable to identify anything about the body except to say it was of an adult woman and not a child.
Police cordoned off the scene near where body was found. (ABC News: Rebecca Trigger)
Police say the circumstances in which the body was found raised significant concerns.
The homicide squad is investigating how she died.

A $14 million contract to improve the jetties at Fremantle and Hillarys has been awarded to Western Australian-based company GTS Australia
The contract includes reconfiguring and replacing five jetties at Hillarys Boat Harbour
Jetty 3 will be replaced with a modern floating pen system to accommodate 45 new berths
WA Recovery Plan funding was announced last year for the replacement of Jetty 3 at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour
the jetty having reached the end of its serviceable life
The replacement project continues work by the Department to upgrade marine infrastructure at our iconic harbour
The project is currently in the delivery phase following the completion of a tender process and award of a $5 million contract to GTS Australia to undertake jetty renewal projects at both Hillarys Boat Harbour and FFBH
The majority of the work at Fishing Boat Harbour will be completed by mid to late 2023 with limited disruption to current penholders and harbour operations
contact the Department’s Marine Operations Centre on 08 9431 1020
“The projects will deliver real improvements for users with access to new modern pen facilities located close to the heart of each harbour
Fremantle MLA Simone McGurk commented that:
“Our Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour is vital as it caters for both recreational and commercial fishing vessels
“These upgrades for Jetty 3 will only make it that much easier to access open water and accommodate for more vessels with the additional new berths.”
