KLAMATH FALLS – Both LC State Men’s Track and Field athletes finished in the top eight at the Cascade Conference multi championships on Friday
Trenton Johnson placed fifth in his first decathlon and Cameron Carrara was seventh to both score points for the Warriors ahead of the Cascade Conference Track and Field Championships
“Could not be more pleased with the results today,” coach Mike Collins said
“Going into the meet we were just hoping to steal a point or two and to have both guys finish as well as they did is exciting.”
Johnson totaled 5,601 points while Carrara scored a season-best 5,232 in just his second decathlon
“Cameron improved by almost 500 points from his first multi which is almost unheard of,” Collins explained
“He is a great athlete and as a freshman we are really looking forward to what is ahead for him
And what more can you say about TJ (Johnson)
He had to talk me into letting him do this and for him to finish fifth is amazing to say the least
We may have to do some serious thinking in looking ahead to his senior year
He could be really good if we work on his weaker events
I am extremely proud of both of these young men
They represented the school and their teammates well
and Coach Bonner has done a tremendous job in coaching them.”
Johnson concluded his first multi with a win in the 1,500m
The former cross country runner crossed the line in 4:35.86
almost 15 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher
ninth in the pole vault (3.30m) and 110m hurdles (18.20) and 10th in the discus (22.92m)

part of the walls of the ancient Moneta Castle
which dominates the hill of the same name beside the town
collapsed due to the heavy rains that have hit upper Tuscany in recent days
The section of wall affected by the collapse had already been declared dangerous on March 16
and an alarm was also raised in local newspapers
Some local associations had taken an interest in the castle’s situation: the Apuo-Versiliese section of Italia Nostra
the Pro Loco Fossola-Moneta and the Pro Loco Salviamo il Castello di Moneta.“The intense rains of the past few days,” the committees said as early as last March 23 in the newspaper Il Tirreno
“have accentuated the landslide risk present on the Apennine mountains
a village with a thousand-year history dominated by a castle built by the Genoese Campofregoso
threatens to give way.” A significant part of the ancient hamlet of Moneta is privately owned
and the associations last month accused the municipality (which had made an initial inspection) and the owner of “blame-shifting”: the committees’ request was to summon the Superintendence of Lucca and Massa-Carrara to carry out an inspection aimed at drafting a memorandum of understanding between the public and private sectors to save the castle
an ordinance issued by Mayor Serena Arrighi required the owners to submit
a plan for work to secure the southern section of the walls
a shoring of the 15th-century wall segment adjacent to the fortress was needed because it threatened “to collapse at any moment.”
that very section of wall finally collapsed
The “Let’s Save Moneta Castle” group
is not giving up: “there is not too much time to lose,” writes Luigi Giovanelli of the committee on the “Let’s Save Moneta Castle” Facebook group
“could widen and invest part of the Castle”: consequently
the parties involved “cannot afford to waste time.” According to Giovanelli
“it is up to the municipality to find an agreement
a solution together with the private party

But my favorite port wasn't crowded — and that's not the only reason it stood out to me.
Marina di Carrara has marvelous mountain landscapes and a unique history of luxurious
I think it's a hidden-gem destination in the Mediterranean
I would have thought the same thing.
For my port stop in Marina di Carrara, I booked an excursion with Carrara Marble Tour to see the mountain range lined with marble quarries up close.
I learned that Carrara is among the most coveted marble in the world
"The marble from Greece and China has very big crystals
"The marble from Turkey has very small crystals
Although it's easier to work with than other forms of marble
another reason the material is so coveted is because of all the time and effort that goes into cutting it and transporting it from the mountain range to countries around the world
The mountain range also has preservation methods in place limiting the amount of marble that can be taken from it
The Apuan Alps in northwest Tuscany extend over 150 miles
Michelangelo spent his time in Carrara choosing specific cuts of marble from the quarries with custom orders about their sizes and shapes
I was excited to see the historic marble for myself.
In 2019, the Carrara marble industry was worth $1 billion
and a slab can cost up to $400 per square meter
Forbes reported in 2022 that the industry made about $22 million in the first three months of the year
More recently, the home improvement company Modernize published a guide to marble countertops in 2024 that states Carrara marble typically costs $40-$60 per square foot
Our tour guide said that the marble is cut into different sizes and is used for a wide variety of products
where our tour guide picked us up in a 4x4 jeep
we saw open-air active quarries lining the mountain cliffs
where we borrowed orange vests and yellow hard hats to keep us safe at the quarries
The tour's website also suggests wearing comfortable shoes
I wore a pair of Vans sneakers and had no problem walking around the quarry in them.
As soon as we got out of the car at one of the quarries
I knew that this mountain range was unlike any I'd been to before just by the sounds
Typically, hiking through mountains is a relatively quiet experience
I heard the constant beeps and mechanical sounds of drilling all around me.
Our tour guide said cutting one huge piece of marble takes about four days
Then he explained exactly how the marble is cut and transported.
workers use a machine to stab into the marble and cut the bottom portion of the slab
the first cut usually is about 50 feet long and 10 feet deep
they use a drilling machine to make a vertical hole from the top of the slab to the bottom of the slab
Then they repeat the process on the other side of the slab over the next two days.
workers insert a long metal cable into the holes in the marble and use machines to pull it off the mountain
The perfect slab weighs 35 tons and has no cracks
Once the marble is cut out of the mountain
workers place a soft sand cushion on the bottom of a truck bed to protect the marble
they hook the slab to a machine that lowers it onto the truck bed
The truck drives down the mountain for the marble to be transported
The work that goes on at the marble quarries seems like a very challenging task
I understood what our guide meant when he said this material is so coveted
I'm not at a place in my life where I can afford the luxuries of Carrara marble in my kitchen
And I'll have a sincere appreciation for the work that went into it.
and rich history that was easy to engage in via the interactive tour
Marina di Carrara may feel as coveted to me as its marble does to the world.
He was named auxiliary bishop of Buenos Aires in 2017
Carrara will now take leadership of one of the country’s most important archdioceses
and some 85% of the population is Catholic
But the archdiocese is also considered to be a challenging one to govern
with a conservative profile and clergy who are widely accepted to have a pastoral and theological character different from that of Pope Francis
Carrara’s appointment follows the surprise resignation of the previous archbishop
had been popular with the clergy of his diocese
and enjoyed the apparent trust of Pope Francis
Mestre said he was stepping down at the pope’s request
He said the pope had summoned him to Rome to discuss his previous assignment in the Diocese of Mar del Plata
in what many considered to be a successful term
But local sources say there was a complicated succession fight in the Diocese of Mar del Plata after Mestre left
which led to questions about the involvement of Mestre himself
Share
Following Mestre’s departure, the Diocese of Mar del Plata saw a series of failed bishop appointments.
Bishop José María Baliña, auxiliary of Buenos Aires, was chosen to lead the diocese in November 2023.
However he resigned less than a month later, before he could be installed as bishop, citing serious health problems, including vision complications that were likely to result in short-term blindness.
Claretian Bishop Gustavo Larrazábal, auxiliary of San Juan de Cuyo, was then announced to head the Diocese of Mar del Plata.
But he was quickly deterred by complaints of harassment and abuse of power between 2007 and 2013 in other dioceses, and he submitted his resignation a few weeks later.
Following these resignations, Auxiliary Bishop Ernesto Giobando, SJ of Buenos Aires, was named apostolic administrator of the Mar del Plata diocese. He promptly opened an investigation into the vicar general of the diocese, Fr. Luis Albóniga, over his short role as diocesan administrator in the period after Mestre left for La Plata.
Albóniga was a close collaborator of Mestre and, according to local media, his preferred candidate to succeed him.
According to local media reports, a group of influential people from the diocese, close to Archbishop Mestre, pushed to have Albóniga named as bishop after Baliña's resignation.
This group is alleged to have been behind the leak of the complaints against Larrazábal, meant to force his resignation and clear the way for Albóniga.
Sources told The Pillar that Pope Francis summoned Mestre to Rome to discuss the situation.
During that conversation, sources said, there was disagreement about Mestre's role in Larrazábal's resignation and the signs of support for Albóniga.
Ultimately, though, Francis asked Mestre to resign from his new position, despite holding it for only a few months.
Carrara will now be tasked with taking over the Archdiocese of La Plata, following the short tenures of both Mestre and the apostolic administrator who has governed the archdiocese since May.
In a Nov. 21 statement, Archbishop Jorge García Cuerva of Buenos Aires praised Carrara’s dedication and promised prayers for his new assignment.

2025When it comes to Italian on the Gold Coast
there’s one name that is synonymous with authenticity – Gemelli
the Gemelli family certainly has a proven formula for success in the hospitality game
the group – headed by twins Alec and James
alongside older brother Paul – have opened a brand-new casual Italian concept on Pappas Way
and here’s everything you need to know …
Papa Rolly’s is a bricks-and-mortar nod to the food truck that rolled through the streets of the Gold Coast back in 2016
Named after the Gemelli brother’s late grandfather
their latest venture seeks to build upon the legacy of convivial dining with a brand-new Italian concept that is family friendly and fun
Spurred by the success of Roy’s by Gemelli in Sorrento
the team jumped at the opportunity to stray further from the usual dining hotspots
this time bringing the authentic Italian Gemelli is known for to Carrara
embraces the concept of approachable dining
where comfort food meets artisanal craftsmanship – think of it as a modern take on the classic red-and-white-checkered tablecloth vibe
The space radiates warmth and a welcoming atmosphere
making it the ideal spot for families to grab a bite
groups and anyone craving authentic Italian fare without the formalities of fine dining
with classic Italian cocktails including limoncello spritz sitting pretty next to negronis
the house wine – in Rosso red or Bianco white – is available by the glass
Perhaps the most unexpected and delightful twist is that Papa Rolly’s is also BYO wine
Papa Rolly’s echos a familiar palette of raw exposed brick and concrete elements found in other Gemelli locations
Though there is seating for 85 scattered inside and out
Although it’s early days, the Carrara community has been quick to embrace the neighbourhood newcomer with bookings in hot demand. If you’re keen to nab a table, head to The Directory for the details.

and much too spoiler-y to discuss now — but if you know
“I was trying to organise access into any of these quarries,” Corbet says
“And the reason that a lot of people don't return your emails or phone calls about it
is it's very dangerous to shoot there — it's dangerous to work there
It's a place where nobody wants the responsibility of some knucklehead
who is not being respectful of that landscape
The irony — and luck — felt ridiculous enough, and then Corbet looked at the email. “It was like, marbleman66 at gmail. I was like, are you fucking kidding me?” he says. “That's like if you're trying to write an email to Tom Cruise, and it's actually tomcruise at mac dot com.”
has resigned following disagreements with the institute’s general manager

after experience at the Gallerie Estensi in Modena and Ferrara
and had replaced Maria Cristina Rodeschini
relations with the general manager were stormy
and nothing the city council and the museum’s board of directors could do to try to sew the rift: in particular
the extraordinary board of directors of the Fondazione Accademia Carrara
tried to find a solution to avoid Bagnoli’s farewell
Bagnoli’s experience thus lasted just eight months. The case came to public attention only a few days ago
and even today it is still being discussed practically only in Bergamo and its environs
has dealt little or nothing with an affair that has therefore held court almost exclusively in local newspapers
there had been no shortage of signs of the now former director’s impatience: above all
the article she wrote last October 7 in the daily newspaper Domani
in which Bagnoli lashed out against “cultural managers,” writing that “at the head of the great international institutions there are professionals with years of experience in the sector,” while “in Italy
different profiles are favored and the mentality is corporatist.” “To run museums,” Bagnoli continued
“’culture managers’ are invoked because museums are ’companies’ and must be run by people who know how to make ends meet
People who have little experience of museums
little familiarity with the collections they are supposed to care for
little affinity with the research they are supposed to promote
and above all no understanding of the difficult balance between reputation and marketing are often called upon to manage important Italian institutions
based on varied curricula in very different fields: from journalism to public relations
from academia to television.” For Bagnoli
art historians should be in charge of museums
“because to get there they have worked for years in other museums: they are
thus appears to be a succession of jabs at Bonaldi
“There has been a lack of transparency and trust,” Bagnoli wrote in her letter of resignation
according to the director there was “an imbalance on the position of the general manager that is in fact no longer a duality
This was not transparent at the beginning and therefore created disagreements.”
who is also president of the Fondazione Accademia Carrara
in an interview with theEco di Bergamo let it be known what proposal the board of directors tried to put forward to mend the rift: a proposal “that would shed light on the respective attributions of responsibility and operations
starting with acquisitions of works and collaborative projects of an artistic order and on cultural content to enhance the museum’s identity and the communication of exhibitions.” The “effort made in recent weeks,” Carnevali continued
“which we think has not been understood or not wanted to be grasped
has gone in the direction of making clarity in their respective responsibilities.”
the Carrara Academy’s organizational structure provides for a kind of dual leadership: the director and general manager are in charge
Both are appointed by the board of directors at the proposal of the president
and both have terms of office set by the board of directors
The director is in charge of tasks concerning conservation
enhancement and planning of cultural activities (so
he or she prepares the program on conservation

while the general manager has overall responsibility for the management of the Foundation (thus

submits budget proposals to the board of directors
takes measures to improve functionality and efficiency
enters into purchase contracts for goods and services
the general manager manager managerial and administrative duties
According to the Bergamasque edition of the Corriere della Sera

The bequest became effective after the art historian’s death in 1998
Also planned is the publication of the proceedings of the conference The Skin of Sculpture
which was held at the museum in November 2024
and the publishing project Masterpieces | Masterpieces
focusing on the main works in the collection
work will begin on the publication of the scholarly catalog of sixteenth-century works
restoration activities on the works housed at the Carrara will continue
the results of new studies and discoveries
and periodic checks on the state of conservation of the holdings
“Accademia Carrara’s programming for the next two years reflects an extraordinary plurality of intentions,” says Elena Carnevali
president of the Accademia Carrara Foundation and mayor of Bergamo
reaffirming its fundamental value within our community; on the other
it strengthens already solid ties with national and international institutions
from the protection of local heritage such as the museum’s display of Lorenzo Lotto’s San Bernardino Altarpiece on the occasion of the restoration of the church of the same name
to the reunion of the Colleoni deck of tarot cards
thanks to the exceptional loan of The Morgan Library of New York and a Bergamasque collection
testify to the fruitful relationship between public and private of which Fondazione Accademia Carrara represents a virtuous and long-lived example
I am sure that not only our many audiences
but also new audiences will have the opportunity to approach and be fascinated by a calendar that is scientifically rigorous
rich in content and capable of telling fascinating and diverse stories
This new program testifies to the Foundation’s ability to produce high-quality content
both for temporary exhibitions and publishing initiatives
confirming its commitment to promoting culture in innovative and engaging ways.”
“We welcome with great interest the program for the next two years put together by Carrara’s new management,” says Sergio Gandi
“Maria Luisa Pacelli confirms some firm points of her vision
the relationship with the territory and the enhancement of the museum’s heritage and
Both objectives can be found in the proposed exhibitions
in this case of a well-known parish in the city
whose work constitutes one of the high points of the painter’s work; but it is also an expression of the relationship with the religious fabric and the Diocese
In the same vein move the exhibitions on Tarot and on Giacomo Carrara
which will uncover the educational and formative value of the Carrara Academy’s origins
the commitment to propose exhibitions that are scientifically rigorous and innovative in terms of themes
at the same time articulate and variable in the choice of objects
to offer a proposal that is appealing to the non-specialist public and attractive to specialists
The focus placed on the role of Educational Services takes on increasing importance: indeed
this is the area of the museum that truly unites heritage with users
that ’mediates’ between community and collections
“Getting to present a two-year program in such a short time since my inauguration
something that few Italian institutions are able to do,” adds Maria Luisa Pacelli
“was a challenge for me as much as for my colleagues
as well as an important response to the many changes that affected the museum before my arrival
will allow us to work synergistically on a multiplicity of objectives
able to embrace as a whole the different needs related to the ”Carrara World“ always starting from the conservation and enhancement of our heritage.”
“The whole Carrara team,” says Gianpietro Bonaldi
General Manager Fondazione Accademia Carrara
“has worked intensively to arrive at presenting this two-year program that shows
the intentions of the institution: the centrality of heritage
the strong relationship with the territory and the international outlook that characterizes its every thought
demanding and challenging future awaits us
which will also be successful to the extent that Fondazione Accademia Carrara will be able to involve
businesses and institutions to the most active participation.”

Dr Yun Wang, a respected associate professor of chemistry at Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus, is being offered support by the university. Police said he called for help after returning to his Carrara home and discovering a scene described by experienced detectives as “one of the most confronting” they had ever seen.
Sophie’s mother, Yingying Xu, was arrested nearby about four hours later and has been charged with her murder.
Xu did not appear in Southport magistrates court on Wednesday when her charges were mentioned and she was formally remanded.

is the protagonist of the exhibition Raw Data on view in Carrara at Vôtre Spazi Contemporanei
the artist displays a number of her etchings (as well as two matrices)
in which explores the complexity of visual codes
inviting visitors to become active participants in the discovery of the artwork
inspired by ancient tables and calculating instruments
Miriana Pino delves into the interpretive possibilities of graphic art
creating an ambiguous relationship between viewer and content
The visitor is thus called to go beyond the immediate aesthetic fascination to reach a level of deep understanding
in a path that leads to knowledge through signs
which the artist employs as an eternal and independent expression
becomes in his work the central node of an ideational and conceptual interweaving
constitute a starting point for a plurality of references
composing a system of relationships between aesthetics
Miriana Pino’s art is characterized by the tension between free and at the same time controlled forms that
transforming themselves into “strange attractors,” as Silvia Papucci observes
that stand in constant dialogue with memory and the present
“Miriana Pino’s lyrical world,” Papucci writes in her text for the exhibition
lines and shapes that combine to create chords or counterpoints to be transformed into images thanks to the engraved matrix
[...] A search that feeds on ancient knowledge that the artist encounters and studies carefully to repropose them in her engravings
translating them into an opportunity to remember and rediscover cultural aspects that are eternal but today risk being as precious as they are hidden
Miriana elaborates the themes to take them out of their context of reference
to open them to other possibilities and comparisons: the communication diagrams do not formally want to clarify anything
the Galilean calculating instruments actually measure sequences both logical and random (while maintaining their precious guise)
and the diagrams do not and correspond only to astronomical calculations but also to pages of books
concepts always attributing to them a personal point of view
critical current c above all futuristic; where respect and knowledge of technique and tradition are indispensable
We do not find cozy emotional or decorative images
aimed at seducing the viewer with pathos; instead
we find open slits so as to protect concepts but inviting us to look far to see new hypotheses and stimulate our critical thinking
without claims of aesthetic gratification confirmations.”
According to Mimmo Coletti’s thinking
Miriana Pino’s artistic journey is described as a journey toward a meditative intelligence that is nourished by silence and discipline
close to polyphony and musical composition in rigor and precision
develops on paper etchings with an almost Bachian flavor
cadences and aesthetic theorems constitute a language that reveals itself slowly
like a “visual poem” where chiseled lines become grooves and traces
capable of revealing the internal logic of forms
“Miriana happily has come to isolate herself from the noises and questions of the outside world
carves out a privileged place for herself in the silence of meditation
builds architectures from the objects of technique
drafts an arcane polyphony enhanced by the sign
daughter of compositional rigor,” Coletti writes
Miriana Pino invites to a profound experience where the graphic sign is transformed into a universal and meditative language
capable of revealing new possibilities of reading and interpretation
opening the door to a universe rich in visual and logical implications
The exhibition remains open Thursday through Saturday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m

is a place where the Etruscan and medieval past is intertwined with modern life
the “Florence of Lunigiana,” amazes with its elegant squares and Renaissance buildings that conceal traces of the past that linked the town to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany
where life flows slowly and local traditions
Here the mountains are not just a place to explore-it is a way of life
Life in the Apennines is marked by the rhythms of nature
and ancient farming traditions still survive to this day
Mountains are a constant and inescapable presence for those who live on the Apuan coast and in Lunigiana
such as the marble of the Apuan Alps or the chestnuts of the Apennines
have been the sustenance and wealth of this land for centuries; they have created a direct link between the mountains and the people who live here
Life in the mountains has never been easy: the harsh climate
steep terrain and communication difficulties have required an extraordinary ability to adapt
This same strength is reflected in the tenacity and proud character of the local communities
The mountainous lands of Lunigiana and the Apuan Alps have also preserved their cultural and gastronomic traditions
insulating them from the sudden changes brought by modernity
Ancient customs manage to survive here thanks to the link with this mountainous landscape that protects them and keeps them alive
was already revered by the ancient Ligurians as a mystical place
mountains are seen not only as a physical place
but as a space in which man can approach the transcendent
finding peace and connection with something greater than himself
The history of Italy can be said to have passed between the Apuan Alps and Lunigiana: the position of the Apuan and Lunigiana mountains made this territory a borderland
but also a strategic communication route for many centuries
the territory was the boundary between Regio VII Etruria and Regio IX Liguria
a separation not only geographical but also cultural
The Apuo-Lunense mountains then formed a natural line of defense: throughout history
they were exploited as a natural defense against invasions and attacks
serving as a bulwark to protect the local populations
the routes through Lunigiana were traversed by travelers
and soldiers who used these paths to cross from northern Italy to Rome and vice versa
were crucial for crossing the barrier of the Apennines
From here then passed the salt routes used to transport the precious mineral from the Ligurian Sea northward to the Po Valley and the cities of Emilia and beyond
The border position then made large parts of the territory of today’s province of Massa-Carrara a contested land between different political entities
The crossroads position of these areas enriched the territory
but always nevertheless attached to their lands
dotted with castles and fortifications (from Piagnaro Castle in Pontremoli to Malaspina Castle in Massa
from Brunella Fortress in Aulla to Castruccio’s Tower in Avenza di Carrara
not to mention the many castles in Lunigiana: Fosdinovo
built to control the passes and defend the territory
testifies to the strategic role of the entire area in the past
Massa-Carrara’s strategic position made this land a protagonist of encounters and clashes
transforming it into a place of cultural and historical richness
the mountain passes and villages of the province tell this story of passages
speaking to visitors who want to discover an area where the mountains are not just a barrier
but a bridge between the past and the future
The mountains of Massa-Carrara are then deeply linked to the art and culture of this province
so much so that they themselves become muses and material for immortal masterpieces
traditions and mountain landscapes become protagonists
which celebrates the importance of Apuan marble in art and culture (here it is possible to discover how marble has been extracted from the mountains and transformed into works of art since theRoman times
work tools and models that testify to the inseparable link between the mountains and Carrara’s artistic tradition) to the quarries themselves
where you can visit the places where the mountains are “carved out” and understand how their material has become sculptures
buildings and monuments all over the world
the places scattered throughout the territory that offer living evidence of this link: the Carrara Cathedral
is one of the finest examples of the link between mountain marble and sacred art
The façade is built entirely of Apuan marble
while inside one can admire marble works with which one can admire the beauty and purity of the material
which was the residence of the Cybo-Malaspina family
Apuan marble was used to decorate interiors and exteriors
showing how the material of the mountains influenced the art and architecture of the Renaissance and Baroque periods
The appointment thus marks the beginning of a new chapter for an institution that has been able to consolidate its national and international prestige in recent years.Maria Luisa Pacelli
a 1998 graduate of Ca’ Foscari University in Venice
including 14 years as director of institutions of public importance: in fact
she comes from her experience at the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna
Her directorship has been characterized by a strategic vision capable of integrating conservation
with an approach that has garnered critical and public acclaim
Pacelli will bring with her to Bergamo a network of institutional relationships developed through collaborations with Italian
matured through shared projects and cultural exchanges
Her management style focuses on an organic system that combines protection and promotion
cultural welfare and educational experiences
One of the key elements of the transition will be to continue in the wake of the structural and strategic innovations introduced on the occasion of 2023
Among the most significant interventions is the refurbishment of the museum’s halls and the opening in 2024 of new spaces such as the Gardens and the cafeteria-restaurant
which have expanded the Carrara Academy’s cultural and recreational offerings
Prior to directing the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna
from 2010 to 2019 she served as director of the Modern and Contemporary Art Galleries of the City of Ferrara
Museo d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea Filippo de Pisis
and the Centro Video Arte fund at Palazzo dei Diamanti
During the previous ten years she served as chief conservator of these museums
she was also scientific and organizational manager of the exhibition program that Fondazione Ferrara Arte carried out at Palazzo dei Diamanti (14 major exhibitions and more than 1 million visitors in 9 years) and other venues and of Ferrara Arte Editore
she was coordinator (2000-2006) and then co-director (2006-2010) of the same institutions
During the decade in which she held the dual role of director of the museums and head of programming for the Ferrara Arte Foundation
she developed a unified project for the two institutions
coordinating the work of numerous offices and developing projects in relation to other national and international museum venues
The activities promoted over more than two decades by Maria Luisa Pacelli have been distinguished by a high scientific quality and have been an opportunity to revitalize the study and enhancement of museum collections and
with the most important national and international cultural institutions both for exchange purposes and by curating exhibitions
exhibitions and special projects devoted both to the heritages of the institutions with which she has collaborated and by applying her commitment to temporary projects
Given the wide-ranging nature of the museums
Pacelli has applied experience toward ancient
with diverse and interesting intersections toward other disciplines - from literature to cinema - and cultures
“A collection of extraordinary quality
a structure and a management of great reputation and professionalism
a dynamic and attentive city to Accademia Carrara
are the ideal conditions to put my experience in the field of cultural programming
national and international relations and the relationship with the territory and its communities,” says Maria Luisa Pacelli
“I am honored and convinced that I can make a significant contribution to the further growth of this important institution.”
“The importance and centrality of the Accademia Carrara in the city and as an institution known nationally and internationally,” said Elena Carnevali
“has led us to a careful reflection with respect to its recent past and
the values of the founder and keeping well in mind the needs of a museum as extraordinary as it is dynamic
the Board of Directors appointed Maria Luisa Pacelli
I am and we are certain that her past experiences as director of important institutions as well as her skills
together with her established institutional relationships in Italy and around the world
will still bring value to Accademia Carrara and its growth.”
“The Municipal Administration,” says Sergio Gandi
councilor for culture and deputy mayor of Bergamo
“is satisfied with the speed with which the CDA of Fondazione Accademia Carrara has come to indicate the new director
Maria Luisa Pacelli presents an outstanding curriculum
with a long management experience in Italian museums
where she has directed all the related activities in terms of organization and curatorship of exhibitions
We are confident that hers will be a cultural and scientific programming that is up to Carrara’s history and the instances of development desirable in its future
to which the Municipality will give full support in the pursuit of its objectives
for the commitment and passion expressed during her direction
for the great professional contribution and availability that
he has shown toward the museum institution.”
It’s a known fact that every stadium improves by 100% when it has an athletics track in it
currently undergoing a massive transformation to become the centrepiece venue for the track and field at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games
as well as the 2018 Australian Athletics Championships & Nomination Trials as evidence of that
Carrara Stadium (known commercially as Metricon Stadium) is primarily used as the Gold Coast Suns' AFL home ground during the year
but since September the ground has seen the turf removed and work begin on the IAAF certified track
as well as the stands to increase the spectator capacity to 35,000
The temporary northern stand that has been constructed can hold 9,500
With the track line marking almost complete
the stadium is expected to be finished on schedule in time for its first big test
where Australia’s best track and field talent will fight for glory and a place on the Australian team at the 2018 Australian Athletics Championships & Nomination Trials from 15-18 February 2018
The time lapse below shows the extent of the transformation between mid-October to the end of November
the track will be cut up and sent around Queensland to be used by schools for long-jump run-ups
“Children will be able to run, jump and follow in the steps of their elite sporting heroes, including our own Sally Pearson,†Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones told the Gold Coast Bulletin
“This is an exciting time in the Games' journey with this key venue evolving from an AFL field to a spectacular stadium where the eyes of the world will be focused for the Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018.â€
See below shots of the stadium before the construction and during the transformation
the stadium will also host the Games’ opening and closing ceremonies
Just recently GOLDOC declared Opening Ceremony tickets have sold out
GC2018 athletics tickets are still available, with seats to sessions that include the men’s 100m, 400m and long jump finals, as well as the women’s 400m, 1500m and javelin throw finals among many other events. Click here for tickets.

After moving around with my (separated) family – London
Florence – I relanded in Genoa as a teenager and stayed until my late twenties
It is a provincial but important port town with a history of accommodating newcomers
That warmth and robustness mixed with a distinct roughness about the edges is what I find intriguing
I find a place interesting when you see potential
get irritated by things that can be better
and admire those that are already beautiful
you feel your work is done when every space is at its best but in Genoa there will always be something to work on
one of the largest historic centres in Europe
is where you get lost in little lanes sometimes so narrow you can stretch your arms and touch both sides
Explore it on foot and be surprised by its constantly changing nature
from generations of Genoese to a variety of ethnic communities
Hidden within the old town are amazing domesticscale squares surrounded by beautiful palazzi
with glimpses of exquisite frescoes visible through the imposing windows
Much still needs to be restored and upgraded
are difficult to use due to the lack of daylight
but more and more people are moving into the bustling centro storico where slate articulated roofscapes offer jaw-dropping sea views
When you exit the historic centre you find yourself in a regimented 19th century new town with wider streets that are lined with ornate buildings
This is where everyone gets confused on styles
the 1930s produced the grand neoclassical fascist buildings lining the sides of the covered section of the Bisagno river
came up with the idea of covering the river)
Constructed in harsh stone these neoclassical buildings have grand Imperial proportions to assert the power and toughness of the regime
They would be very hard to bring back to a comfortable human scale
But there are also beautiful 1930s rationalist buildings
with human proportions and naval references
including round volumes and large terraces
My favourite is the former Mercato del Pesce
Although badly reshaped by the construction of the elevated road
it is still charming and I am proud that I managed to get it listed back in the 90s
Of course everyone knows that Cristoforo Colombo was Genoese
although the Spanish are still disputing this
the elevated road construction cut off the old city from the seafront – the working port
But the elevated road provides spectacular views for those entering the city from the motorway
are hidden and take years to discover; churches
It was years after I moved to Genoa that I discovered blue jeans were invented here
The town centre features the colonnade garden of his home
I’ve noticed that Genoese people are very reticent to move away – even when work prospects are not brilliant
as they are not ready to renounce the quality of life here
and the swim season starts in late April and ends in early October
while vitamin D harvesting is really all year round
it is a very popular place for an evening stroll for people of all ages
At the end of the promenade is Corso Italia
providing some very sought after real estate
Most local people though are mountaineers rather than sailors
Rambling from one fort to the next on the hills crowning the town is a popular pastime
I wasn’t truly a newcomer as my family is Ligurian
the rest of my family stayed at our extended family home in Quarto dei Mille from where Garibaldi left by sea with 1000 soldiers to unify Italy in 1860
I left in my twenties because I had broader horizons
but as time passes I enjoy returning over and over again to discover its secrets

CMB CARRARA: Coach: Bertieri.SKYWALKERS: Cattani 24, Simonetti 2, Catelli 20, Manfredini 4, Rinaldi 7, D. Sodini 8, Benedetti, Losco, Gianni, Petri, Lombardi 2, Crippa 7. Coaches: Lupori.
Referees: Chirco of Florence and Tabarin of Pistoia.Footnotes: partials 23-28, 48-46, 65-63.
CARRARA - In the last away game of the regular season Skywalkers returns from Carrara with a defeat, at the end of a very hard-fought match. Lupori's boys start well, closing the first quarter at 23-28. In the second, however, the Amaranto let themselves be recovered, with the home team managing to take the lead and go to halftime at 48-46.
Upon returning from the locker rooms, after the long break, the match continues to be exciting, with both rosters not holding back and responding point by point, but it is Carrara which still closes with a lead of 65-63. In the last quarter Skywalkers, tries to play it all, trying to score important points; but it is Bertieri's boys who manage to gain this success that extinguishes the dreams of play-off of the Lupori roster.
"From the beginning - commented the Amaranth coach - the game was played on very high percentages, with an excellent Catelli and the usual Cattani who responded to the home team. The match always remained balanced, with Carrara who, in the last minutes of the last quarter, thanks to an excellent full-court defense, put us in difficulty with four-five lost balls that they managed to transform into fundamental points for the victory".
"Now - concludes Lupori - the last match awaits us in front of our supporters and we want to close, in any case, in the best possible way".
It should be noted that on the bench, in addition to Lupori, the former Amaranth coach Merciadri also went, who, in January, for study reasons, moved to France.

Lawyer Sophie Robertson — who appeared for several media outlets, including the ABC — argued the court did not have the power to grant a suppression order.
The police application was later withdrawn.
Ms Xu did not make a bail application as defendants charged with murder are unable to apply for bail in the lower courts and must make a separate application in the Queensland Supreme Court.
Speaking on Wednesday, nearby resident Chris Sydes said it was "heartbreaking" to hear what had happened.
He said he had seen the young girl in the street only days ago.
"I've been home all day and I haven't heard anything, I had my dogs dropped off at 6pm and all of a sudden police started showing up," Mr Sydes said.
"I've since found out what's happened. It's just terrible news.

Carrara aims to become the Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2026
The city of marble has decided to apply to compete for the first award of the title: the proposal
drawn up with the support of the Fitzcarraldo Foundation of Turin
involving various local entities both public and private
after which it will be submitted to the Ministry of Culture. The initiative
aims to promote innovative and sustainable cultural projects
reviews and the redevelopment of spaces dedicated to contemporary art
The winning city will be awarded a €1 million grant to implement the activities
Carrara’s application file will highlight not only the planned activities
but also the positive impact on the area and the economic sustainability of the projects
There are several themes with which Carrara is refining its proposal: Carrara as a creative and knowledge city
Carrara as a city with a strong international vocation
Carrara as a city of the contemporary art supply chain
and Carrara as a city at the forefront of environmental and urban art
The final dossier must be submitted by June 30
a jury will select the five finalist cities in September
Carrara hopes to win this prestigious title
which would be an important recognition for the city and a significant boost for local cultural development
this announcement represents a bit of a manifesto of what we want to build in Carrara,” explains Carrara Mayor Serena Arrighi
“I have always made it clear that I consider culture an indispensable driver of development and revitalization for our city
and this is a concrete step in that direction
as the title chosen for this candidacy reports
is truly ’contemporary for 2,000 years’ because it has been transforming matter and experimenting here since Roman times
a Unesco Creative City for Art and Craftsmanship
has always remained a city of making and at the same time a city of tradition and a city of innovation
Our task and goal now is to systematize all that the city can offer and to do so with a high vision
If we want Carrara to keep up with its history there is a need for planning and design
Winning the title of Italian Capital of Contemporary Art would be a wonderful opportunity to give greater visibility to our territory
but also to develop ideas and give space to the many artistic realities
I am convinced that Carrara is already one of the many Italian capitals of contemporary art
regardless of whether or not it wins the title
with the support of Fondazione Fitzcarraldo
it has already been possible to trigger a virtuous process of reflection on our city
on its many strengths and on the aspects that instead require intervention
but a highly stimulating one that gives us the opportunity to relate with so many realities in the area
and with professionals from different fields and different sectors
we are confident that all this work will not go to waste
but will leave us with a wealth of knowledge and guidance on which to continue building the Carrara of tomorrow.”
“Carrara’s participation in Capital of Contemporary Art 2026 fully responds to the objectives of the ministerial call
which focuses heavily on the creation of networks between the public and private sectors for the promotion of contemporary art
urban regeneration through the recovery of spaces for culture
and the enhancement of young local and non-local artists
including through the system of artist residencies,” explains Carrara City Councilor for Culture Gea Dazzi
“We have already been working on many of these objectives for some time
also thanks to the actions undertaken by Carrara Unesco creative city
the Unesco international symposium of young sculptors and the many connections activated in different projects with various cultural subjects in the area
It will now be crucial for this candidacy to further strengthen this cooperation
and the willingness gathered to date has been truly excellent from all those called upon to support and promote this mission
The candidacy will also be a further input to give legs to many urban regeneration projects through contemporary art
Carrara has always been a destination and home to young national and international artists
then choose to live in our city to refine their creative vocation
also by confrontation with our artisans and their ancient and precious knowledge
We count with this candidacy to build an even more receptive and systemic ground for them
which can offer concrete opportunities for growth and development to the new generations of artists and creatives
who will choose our city as a laboratory of the contemporary.”

«Among the many treasures that will be on view in Michelangelo: Divine Draftsman and Designer are three sculptures the artist carved in marble from Carrara
Michelangelo became involved—quite literally—at the ground level as he planned his sculptures
He spent long stretches of time on-site at the marble quarries in Carrara and Pietrasanta
where he not only selected marbles and gave precise orders regarding the sizes and shapes of the blocks being quarried
but even concerned himself with the building of roads to transport the stone
He maintained contracts with numerous marble excavators (cavatori) and quarry cutters (scarpellini); as well as with carvers (also called scarpellini)
Another rare work in The Met's exhibition—opening November 13—is a letter written by Michelangelo in Florence to his servant Pietro Urbano
who managed his household and who often worked for the master at the marble quarries in Carrara
Michelangelo reused a sheet with his drawings to write him:
regarding my stones for the figures [statues]
and if you were to see that you would waste much time waiting until loading [the stones]
Michele will send you this [letter] through a designated man; give him [that messenger] the answer

Until the late 19th century the process of extracting marble from the mountains had remained little changed since Michelangelo's time
Although the film footage below of work in the quarries of Carrara shown here is contemporary
it powerfully evokes the arduous physical work
