The quality of life in the current Islamic Republic of Iran is sufficient to prevent the fall of the regime for the short term
but insufficient to ensure political stability
The plurality of Iranian society produces political tensions that are easily exacerbated during times of economic hardship and result in recurrent protests
which the Iranianregime is adept in repressing via the use of force
The regime consistently follows periods of moderate reform from within the regime with a period of conservatism and undoing of the permitted liberalization
the regime has allowed its moderate opposition to win the presidency for alternatingintervals
and projecting a higher quality of democracy to the international community without meaningfully impacting the regime’s control of Iran
Conservative control of society has beenstrengthened since Bush’s 2002 “Axis of Evil” speech and even more so since Ahmadinejad’s economicempowerment of the IRGC and the bonyads
The regional influence of Iran in the Middle East is increasing and will continue to do so at least in the short term
Iran’s regional popular reputation is mixed
Iran has been able to prevail even in the cases where the local elections turned out against its proxies by using brutal force
Iran currently controls four Arab capitals
Iranian successful proxy warfare in Yemen and regional demographic shifts in Iraq and Syria in favor of the Shias that can even amount to demographic reengineeringa are likely to continue and be intensified at least in the short term
Iran increasingly finds its expansionist role in the region in conflict with its national interests
Iran has chosen to prioritize Iranian national security over its self-appointed role as the protector of Shia minorities by collaborating with the Taliban
Iranian economic interests recently outweighed Iran’s status as the most trusted ally of the Assad regime for decades
Though unlikely to deeply affect therelationship with Syria
the latest fallout between Syria and Iran due to the latter’s increase in oil export prices might be a sign that Iran is overstretching its resources abroad
Iran boasts the recent resumption of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Riyadh
Coupled with the lack of similar advancements between Saudi Arabiaand Israel
this debilitates the anti-Iranian bloc in the region
making the containment of Iran even less likely
While the threat of Iran led Israel and the Persian Gulf countries to a path of closer cooperation
it is unlikely thatthe Gulf nations would endorse any radical move regarding Iran on Israel’s part
WithUAE not endorsing an attack against Iran due to the security reasons
and the legitimacy problems posedby Saudi cooperation with Israel
the latter is unlikely to receive any real Arab support in the offensive against Iran
The war in Ukraine is driving Iran and Russia closer together militarily and economically
resulting in increased technological capacity in Iran which will contribute to Iran’s proxy warfare
Russia’s Gazprom’s recent $40 billion USD deal with Iran may replace the lost Western FDI needed to fully exploit Iran’s fossil fuel reserves.Iran still suffers under international sanctions: GDP per capita has dropped by half in the last decade
in addition to smuggling and an advanced tech industry
haveincreasingly allowed Iran to persist economically even under heavy international sanctions
Iran’s breakout period for weapons-grade uranium stands under a week at present
it would take Iran anywhere from six to 24 months to produce an effective atomic weapon
The Iranian approach to JCPOA renegotiations has been characterized by seemingly confident stubbornness rather than desperation
Iran has three demands: no more IAEA investigations into Iran’s undeclared nuclear activities in the past
the removal ofthe IRGC from international terrorist lists
and JCPOA guarantees against another US unilateral withdrawal
only China is recentlyendorsing the JCPOA enthusiastically
The Western members (US and E3) have increasingly criticized Iran for human rights violations and incompliance with the 2015 agreement
Russia’s contribution to JCPOA negotiations became unconstructive
With US endorsement of the JCPOA being intensely dependent on internal politics
and Iranian consideration of the JCPOA being intenselydependent on US involvement
after the 2024 November USelections and likely by early 2025 at latest to ensure maximum lifetime of US JCPOA participation
itseems more likely than not that the JCPOA will not be renewed at all
there is a real potential of an Israeli attack on Iran
which could plausibly lead to US military support for Israel and a prolongation and expansion of the conflict
China’s recent support for the JCPOA can be seen as an indicator of real international fear in the face of the strong potential for an Israeli attack as a response to increasingly ambitious Iranian nuclear hedging

FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Police busted a Framingham woman after an investigation over several months into her selling marijuana in town
after she sold marijuana to an informant working with police several times
Detectives had received a tip about Casarano selling marijuana and began an investigation
Casarano would sell marijuana to the informant who paid using marked bills
detectives got a warrant to search both the woman and her 376 Hollis St
Police went to VIP Total Connections on Franklin Street
”The officer asked if she wanted him to explain how the search warrant worked and she said no because she has had to deal with them in the past,” Cronin said
Police searched Casarano and found a digital scale in her purse
a small plastic bag of marijuana and several unused bags
The bags matched the ones that she used to package the marijuana she sold to the informant
“She said she only sold dime bags to her co-workers from time to time,” Cronin said
Casarano told police that they would not find any drugs in her home
Police found another digital scale with residue on it
and a bag of what appeared to be hallucinogenic mushrooms
Police arrested Casarano and charged her with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute (subsequent offense) and possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms
She pleaded not guilty at her Framingham District Court arraignment on Monday and was released without bail
Casarano is due back in court on June 8 for a pretrial conference

which are helping to revive the region’s olive oil production that has been devastated by the disease
is immune to Xylella fastidiosa and has the potential to restore bountiful olive oil production in regions affected by the disease
according to the Italian Farmers Confederation
Olive growers are celebrating “a sign of hope and rebirth” after harvesting healthy olives from trees recently reintroduced to the Xylella fastidiosa-ravaged region of Puglia
a commune located close to Lecce at the heel of Italy’s boot
have harvested olives from their two-year-old trees belonging to the Favolosa cultivar (or Fs-17)
“Due to the bad weather
we are harvesting at most 10 percent of the true potential of these young trees
but [this harvest has been] a great success compared to the six or seven years that it would have taken our Xylella-hit traditional cultivars
to achieve the same results,” local farmer Cosimo Primiceri told Italian daily Corriere della Sera
Primiceri was one of the first to plant the Xylella-resistant cultivar in this part of Puglia
an area in which traditional olive groves have been wiped out by the disease
It was discovered and patented by the Italian National Research Council (CNR) more than 30 years ago
The cultivar is descended from the Frantoio variety and was bred for medium to high-density cultivation
The Favolosa trees usually yield high numbers of olives each year and the fruits ripen early
which allows it to grow well in monovarietal orchards
In addition to these selected qualities, Italian researchers have also discovered that the cultivar is immune to the highly deadly and contagious Xylella fastidiosa
According to the Italian Farmers Confederation (CIA)
the Favolosa variety can restore formerly bountiful regions of olive oil production back to their full potential
“We estimate that for every hectare (2.5 acres) of olive trees
“[These olives] are destined to give birth to an excellent extra virgin olive oil
which is already widely appreciated by consumers for its organoleptic properties.”
The Favolosa cultivar is currently grown in Puglia
Among the many farmers and producer associations celebrating this landmark harvest in Casarano was the national consortium
According to recently-published research from the organization
since the discovery of Xylella fastidiosa in the Gallipoli area in 2013
the disease has quickly spread both north and south
damaging five million trees – almost one-quarter of all the area’s olive trees – in the provinces of Lecce
Italia Olivicola said that the average harvest for these provinces has fallen by 29,000 tons each year as a result of Xylella fastidiosa
decreasing overall Italian olive oil production by roughly 10 percent

Some of the Island’s best high school talent will put themselves in front of college and university coaches when the Bermuda School Sports Federation take a school select team to Florida tomorrow to compete in the IMG Invitational College Showcase at the IMG Academy in Bradenton. The Bermuda Select team
will compete in the Under-17 division against some of Florida’s elite youth teams. The Bermuda team will play five matches in six days
including a game on Friday against FC Florida and two more on Saturday against Plantation at 8am and Davie United at 2pm
Upwards of 50 coaches are expected to attend the tournament. The BSSF are partnering Bermuda Football Association to make the trip possible and the team will be accompanied by BFA National Academy Director
Richard Todd and national coach Andrew Bascome who have been helping to prepare the squad. Also leaving with team are assistant coach Dean Minors
tour manager Richard Norris and Darrin Lewis
who have supported the BFA’s prep school tours over the last few years
have endorsed this venture as the lead sponsors
Additional donations have been received from the Bermuda Union of Teachers as well as small private contributions.“In the past the BSSF have invited coaches to Bermuda for the annual All-Star football match,” said Lewis
the BSSF believes that taking student-athletes to a tournament of this magnitude is the best way to showcase Bermudian student-athletes.“The BSSF selection process involves a demanding set of criteria which every player must meet in order to travel with the team
The goal of the tour is to highlight college prospects and not just footballers
It is hoped that this will provide opportunities for our students to obtain athletic scholarships to further their academics through their athletic talents.”The criteria calls for the students to:Have a 2.0 GPA minimum;Have SAT
ACT or PSAT score;Represent their school football team;Attend training sessions/meetings;Have overall satisfactory deportment;Pass the mandatory drug test.In a similar showcase in Raleigh
the BSSF high school select team went undefeated in their matches and attracted a great deal of interest from coaches which resulted in 75 percent of the players having scholarship offers
Some 50 percent of those athletes are now playing at the college level.During the upcoming tour the students will also have the opportunity to visit nearby university campuses
and following the IMG tournament the Bermuda team will travel north to face Montverde Academy.“Bermuda has an existing relationship with Montverde Academy,” said Lewis
“Maintaining the partnership with Montverde was an integral part of our planning
Successful BFA Academy players Donte Brangman
Akilah Furbert and Tristan Hall all previously attended Montverde Academy
Players have gone on from Montverde to be recruited and play at NCAA division I and II schools.”Added Todd: “I do want to emphasis the difference between a tournament and a college showcase
a tournament we enter to win and be competitive and in a showcase event it is about giving opportunities for all players to be seen and recruited
It is the main emphasis of this tour and to give the National Academy staff the opportunity to look at comparable levels of competition within the United States.“It will be a good test and measure for us with the National Academy
to get a gauge of where the level of our players are and what are suitable competition levels moving forward.”BSSF squad: Jordan Casarano (CBA

Interview a Pantaleo Corvino, Sporting Director of Lecce in the program “A Tu per Tu”
interviewed by the presenter Max Persano of Telerama
begins a journey into the memories linked to his family
and revealing several anecdotes of the Lecce football market
Pantaleo Corvino born in Vernole on 12 December 1949, he is an old-fashioned Italian sports manager, having managed players from Fiorentina and Bologna in his career, and is currently the head of the technical area of Lecce football
After a long apprenticeship in the minor fields of lower Salento
in Vernole in the Third Category and in Scorrano in Promotion)
in 1987 he made his debut in professional football as sporting director of Casarano in Serie C1
On 28 April 1998 he was hired by Lecce and relaunched the Giallorossi youth system and his Primavera team, coached by Roberto Rizzo, won between 2003 and 2005 two championships and two Italian Cups
Many are the footballers purchased and among the various talents hired we mention: Valeri Božinov, Ernesto Chevanton, Mirko Vučinić
It also brings to Lecce Guillermo Giacomazzi e Christian Lucarelli author of 31 goals in Serie A
after seven consecutive seasons as sporting director of the Giallorossi
In these years with Fiorentina he reached fourth place in the league three times with the related qualification for Europe
a semi-final of the Italian Cup and a round of 16 of the Champions League
and on 9 June Bologna won promotion after a double confrontation in the play-off final
thus returning to the Viola club after 4 years
with the purchase of the Viola club by Rocco Commisso
on 11 June 2019 his employment relationship ended
he returns to being the general manager of the technical area of Lecce
