Police arrested the veteran New Castle County officer in August
Now a lawsuit claims the victim's sexual orientation precipitated the attack
New Castle County would not provide a photo of Justin M
a 20-year veteran of the force who was put on leave after the incident last summer
but he continues collecting his $105,200 annual salary
Lawsuit against Justin Caserta by Cris Barrish
but he also shared child porn and convinced a 16-year-old Ohio girl to send explicit pics
who worked as a paraprofessional in the Caesar Rodney School District when he was allegedly attacked
said he remains mystified by what transpired during the party at an old friend’s house in the midstate town of Smyrna
Molina said he has known the retired county cop who owns the home
The so-called “Beer Olympics” involved a series of games that involved imbibing
He’d been drinking earlier in the evening but was “in my right mind” when the incident occurred about midnight
The violence happened as he was talking with the owner’s daughter and Caserta’s son
At one point Caserta’s son was “sort of fixing himself up in the mirror” and the girl teased him
Don’t worry about it.’ It’s my impression that Justin heard these comments and afterwards came up to me and said
‘What the f— is going on right now?’” Molina said
He grabbed me by my lapel and dragged me outside
threw me down and got on top of me and choked me to the point of being unconscious and foaming at the mouth
a nurse who has known Molina since middle school and accompanied him to the party of their mutual friend
saw the commotion and rushed over to the chaotic scene
She found Molina “dazed and confused,” then ran to Justin Caserta and confronted him
What’s going on?’” she recalled demanding to know
Giddings said the accusation was ridiculous

Peggy Caserta was a force to be reckoned with
loved her very much and instilled in her the meaning of loyalty and compassion
which she gave to them in return and to the people she cared about throughout her colorful life
Her high school experience was rich with achievements
and being the little kids’ favorite swimming instructor at the country club
Peggy trained as a “stewardess” and started flying out of New York with Delta Airlines
She initially liked it until she discovered that she had severe motion sickness and didn’t like serving coffee
She sensed a subtle shift amongst her peers that called her
Peggy opened a clothing store that became a magnet
attracting thousands of wide-eyed innocents to the corner of Haight and Ashbury
hung out at the store and dreamed of making it big
She bought Jerry Garcia his first amplifier
sold Janis one of the first pairs of bell-bottom jeans
Her store was a safe place for young “hippies” to congregate
which partly sparked the counterculture revolution
She convinced Levi Strauss & Company to create the first bell bottoms flares exclusively for her store
Her ability to manage and navigate the ups and downs in the decades that followed is a testament to her courage and tenacity
is a wonderfully well-written account of her life and times
She fulfilled her dream of living out the final days of her life in her cabin on the Tillamook River
and The Old Oregon Smokehouse and The Crazy Torta were two of her favorites because the food was very good
but she was also treated with great kindness and respect…which meant everything to her

Caserta and Joplin had an intense relationship from 1966 to 1970
Peggy Caserta, a lover of rock icon Janis Joplin, has died at age 84
Caserta died last Thursday at her home, a cabin on the Tillamook River in Oregon, Deadlinereports
She was born in 1940 in Louisiana. She worked as a New York City-based flight attendant — unhappily — for a period before moving to San Francisco in the mid-1960s
She opened a clothing boutique there in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood
“Already living openly as a lesbian when that was a rarity even within the ostensibly liberal
though thoroughly heteronormative hippie culture
Caserta boldly called her new Haight-Ashbury shop Mnasidika after a character in the iconic Sappho-inspired poetry collection The Songs of Bilitis,” Deadline notes
She dressed the Grateful Dead and other musicians, and created what came to be known as bell-bottom jeans
which she eventually got Levi Strauss to make for her store
Caserta came up with the idea for the jeans after seeing a woman wearing a version
“One of the early hippie-ish type girls had split the side seam on her boyfriend’s jeans
and inserted a paisley triangle,” she explained to Levi Strauss
according to a 2019 article on the company's website
Caserta then paid the woman to make some with denim
Caserta went to Levi Strauss and struck a deal with the company
and that night Caserta went to see Joplin sing with her band
The performance was “powerful and mind altering,” Caserta wrote in her second memoir
Joplin went into Caserta’s boutique to buy some jeans on layaway
one that would include voracious sexual appetites and an equally enthusiastic devotion to heroin,” Deadline reports
neither Caserta nor Joplin described their relationship as girlfriends or lovers
Caserta has said she believes Joplin was straight but “wild,” although Joplin had several female romantic partners
“I adored her. I loved her,” Caserta told New York Magazine’s Vulture blog in 2018
“But to be her lover was to resign yourself to being invisible
and as hard as it may be for people to understand now
Caserta was with Joplin when the singer performed at Woodstock in 1969
and the two were supposed to be together on the final night of Joplin’s life
a man with whom Joplin had just begun a relationship
But “either through miscommunication or druggy inertia,” as Deadline puts it
neither Caserta nor Morgan arrived at Joplin’s hotel room in Los Angeles; the singer had been recording her final album
Joplin died early the next day after shooting heroin
Caserta asserted in I Ran Into Some Trouble that Joplin’s death was due not to a drug overdose but to a fall and a broken nose that caused her to suffocate from blood
Caserta regretted missing the rendezvous with Joplin
I regret that I wasn’t there that night when she tripped and fell
Caserta continued to be addicted to heroin, and she published her first memoir, Going Down With Janis, in 1973. She has disavowed much of the book, blaming her ghostwriter, Dan Knapp. She said she received $2,000 for it, which all went to her heroin habit. But many LGBTQ+ people welcomed the book for revealing Joplin’s queerness
that lurid and graphic sexual content and the drug scenes depicted
was published by Wyatt-MacKenzie Publishing in Oregon in 2018
Caserta eventually overcame her drug habit and spent several years caring for her mother, who was suffering from dementia, beginning in 2005. After that stint in Louisiana, Caserta settled into her cabin on the Oregon coast, and “she loved the community” there, the Tillamook County Pioneernotes

Craving pizza
Longtime favorites are popular as ever even as newcomers are staking their claim
You can have it all from Providence to Westerly
The National Day calendar has declared Feb. 9 as National Pizza Day
They also shared some interesting facts such as that pepperoni is the most popular pizza at 36% of all orders
where 17% of all restaurants are pizzerias
Perhaps that's why Americans consume on average 23 pounds of pizza per person each year
If you want to sample the best pizza in Rhode Island
Providence chef Robert Andreozzi of Pizza Marvin
opened their old-style pizza parlor with a modern menu of food and cocktails in a small space on Wickenden Street just five years ago
That doesn't happen to chefs at many pizzerias
It's one of the most prestigious honors in the culinary world
You can taste why with the clever Chowdah Pie with clams
But it's hard to beat the classic House Cheese with the perfect sauce
made with organic New England flour milled from local grains
You'll also find the flavor for the thick pizza slices that are oh-so satisfying

When chefs wanted to raise the quality of pizza
they applied what they learned from bakers about fermentation
It seems like he was talking about James Wayman. He is the executive chef and a partner at Nana’s. He's also a founding partner and creative director of Moromi Shoyu
He explained they use its koji to amplify the umami in their pizzas
You'll recall it's the fifth basic taste – savory – after sweet
One bite of the classic Margherita and it's unlikely you'll forget it anytime soon
This is not your nana's pizza but a pie with an ethereal crust and a perfect balance of cheese and sauce

Mother Pizzeria comes from chef Kevin O’Donnell (Giusto)
It's named after the starter or "Mother" used in sourdough baking
The pizza is made from naturally fermented dough using local stone ground flour
It's baked in a Marra Forni Neapolitan-style pizza oven
Mother Pizzeria was named a 50 Top Pizza USA 2024 as an "Excellent Pizzeria." They said the pizza was fresh with seasonal ingredients and they liked the intention to cook healthy food
The sourdough pizza is light and airy as a feather and features a bright sauce
Pair it with a lovely appertivo for the perfect dinner
The Roman-style 12-inch square pies are available to go
Build your own or choose one of our specialty pies
Bonus: Soon a second Mother will open in Track 15
the Providence food hall in the former Union Station

But it is a taste of home for me and many others
I hope I'm not alone in having to put it in the trunk so I don't eat it on the ride home
The aroma of the cheese and sauce and pepperoni
pairs wonderfully with the thick crust for many satisfying bites

Pasquale’s Pizzeria Napoletana in Wakefield has been owning a high spot on a pretty exclusive international best pizza list. The international organization 50 Top Pizza put Pasquale's at No. 14 last year and No
Owner and pizzaiolo (pizza maker) Pasquale Illiano was No
Now that wouldn't mean anything if the pizza wasn't wonderful
The pizza will disappear from your table but remain on your mind for days
My favorite is a wood-fired Margherita that is topped with San Marzano tomatoes
But the best is the fior di latte mozzarella that's so creamy

Blackie's has not one but two Italian pizza ovens so one can be dedicated to making gluten-free pizza. Details: 280 George Washington Highway, Smithfield, (401) 231-4777, eatatblackies.com
Al Forno helped start a well-documented culinary revolution for upscale
sophisticated dining in Providence with simple
One of the signature dishes is their grilled pizza
maybe a topping of prosciutto or sweet corn
Details: 577 South Water St, Providence, (401) 273-9760, alforno.com
Chef Brian Kingsford learned his craft at Al Forno before opening Bacaro, his own restaurant with business partner Jennifer Matta. Their menu is all about sharing the best flavors of Italy. But their modern pizza, grilled to perfection, can't be beat. They also offer a choice of topping combinations that change seasonally. Here we report spillover of the HPAI H5N1 virus to dairy cattle across several states in the USA
The affected cows displayed clinical signs encompassing decreased feed intake
respiratory distress and decreased milk production with abnormal milk
Infectious virus and viral RNA were consistently detected in milk from affected cows
Viral distribution in tissues via immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization revealed a distinct tropism of the virus for the epithelial cells lining the alveoli of the mammary gland in cows
Whole viral genome sequences recovered from dairy cows
domestic cats and a raccoon from affected farms indicated multidirectional interspecies transmissions
Epidemiological and genomic data revealed efficient cow-to-cow transmission after apparently healthy cows from an affected farm were transported to a premise in a different state
These results demonstrate the transmission of the HPAI H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b virus at a non-traditional interface
underscoring the ability of the virus to cross species barriers
The continuous and widespread circulation of this high-consequence panzootic pathogen is of major concern and poses a substantial threat to animal and public health
Here we report the spillover of the HPAI H5N1 virus clade 2.3.4.4b into dairy cattle and describe the findings of a clinical
pathological and epidemiological investigation in nine affected farms (farms 1–9) across four states in the USA
The clinical disease in dairy cattle lasted 5–14 days
with animals returning to pre-outbreak health status
but maintaining decreased milk production for at least 4 weeks
A similar epidemiological scenario involving mortality events in domestic and wild mammals was observed in farms 3–5 and 8
Six domestic cats died in farm 3 after the disease onset in dairy cows
Cats found dead on farms 4 and 5 and cats and a raccoon found dead on farm 8 tested positive for HPAI-H5
faecal (n = 10) and milk (n = 167) samples collected from cattle from farms 1 to 9 quantified by rRT–PCR targeting the IAV matrix gene
Viral RNA loads in tissues of dairy cattle quantified by rRT–PCR targeting the IAV matrix gene
Serum antibody responses in affected cattle (n = 19) quantified by a haemagglutination inhibition (HI) assay
Cytopathic effect of the HPAI H5N1 virus isolated from milk in bovine uterine epithelial cells Cal-1
The photomicrographs shown are representative of two independent clinical samples
Detection of the infectious HPAI virus in Cal-1 cells by an immunofluorescence assay using a nucleoprotein-specific monoclonal antibody (red) counterstained with 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI
Infectious HPAI H5N1 virus in milk (n = 69; f) and tissues (g) detected by virus titration
Virus titres were determined using end point dilutions and expressed as 50% tissue culture infectious dose (TCID50) per millilitre (TCID50 ml−1)
The limit of detection for infectious virus titration was 101.05 TCID50 ml−1
Data are presented as mean ± s.e.m (a–c,f,g)
All graphs and statistical analysis were generated using GraphPad Prism (v10)
Source Data
Viral shedding and RNA load in milk (n = 41)
urine (n = 23) and faeces (n = 25) collected from clinical and non-clinical animals from farm 3
Viral RNA loads in milk samples collected from cattle from farm 3 on day 3 (n = 15)
day 16 (n = 12) and day 31 (n = 9) post-clinical diagnosis quantified by rRT–PCR targeting the IAV matrix gene
Infectious HPAI virus in milk (n = 13 on day 3
n = 12 on day 16 and n = 9 on day 31) detected by virus titration
Virus titres were determined using end point dilutions and expressed as TCID50 ml−1
Source Data
Haematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining (left panels) showing intraluminal epithelial sloughing and cellular debris in mammary alveoli (Z1 and Z2)
and normal mammary alveoli filled with milk and fat globules (Z3)
In situ hybridization (ISH; middle panels) targeting the IAV (matrix gene) showing extensive viral RNA in milk-secreting epithelial cells in the alveoli and in intraluminal cellular debris (Z1 and Z2)
and normal mammary alveoli showing no viral staining (Z3)
Immunohistochemistry (IHC; right panels) targeting the IAV matrix gene showing intracytoplasmic immunolabelling of viral antigen in milk-secreting alveolar epithelial cells (Z1 and Z2)
These results demonstrate a distinct tropism of HPAI H5N1 virus for the mammary tissue of cattle and the central nervous system tissue of cats with sporadic detection of virus-infected cells in other tissues
in which the reassortment event culminating in the incorporation of the am8 NP segment and emergence of the HPAI H5N1 genotype B3.13 virus
Phylogeny of sequences derived from cattle
raccoon and grackle sampled in the farms described in this study
and other sequences in closer ancestral branches
Detailed view of the clade containing 91 sequences derived from animals sampled in the farms described in this study
All phylogenomic analyses were conducted with concatenated whole-genome sequences
suggesting that these could have emerged following spillover in cattle
HPAI H5N1 virus dispersal in North America
Samples described in this study are coloured by farm
whereas locations in grey represent samples from closer ancestral branches obtained from the GISAID database
Haplotype network analysis of HPAI H5N1 viral sequences obtained from the farms described in this study
The different colours indicate different farms
The size of each vertex is relative to the number of samples
and the dashes on branches denote the number of mutations between nodes
Phylogenetic reconstruction and analysis of dispersal between sites 1 and 2 of farm 2 (c)
The directions of dispersal lines are counterclockwise
All phylogenomic and dispersal analyses were conducted with concatenated whole-genome sequences
The blackbirds were collected at 8–12 km away from farm 7
these results suggest both long-range and close-range lateral spread and transmission of the HPAI virus between farms
These results indicate transmission of HPAI H5N1 virus between subclinically infected cows
This is supported by epidemiological information revealing that feeding raw milk to farm cats was a common practice in these farms
Additional historical and prospective sequence data are needed for more detailed molecular epidemiological inferences
Experimental infection studies using different inoculation routes (that is
intranasal versus intramammary) with the HPAI H5N1 genotype B3.13 virus and
other contemporary viruses of the 2.3.4.4b lineage in dairy cattle with sequential and comprehensive sampling are critical to answer these important questions about the port of entry
infection dynamics and pathogenesis in this new host species
These cases highlight the zoonotic potential of the virus
underscoring the need for robust measures to prevent and control the infection and further spread of HPAI H5N1 in dairy cattle
This would reduce the risk of the virus adapting in this new mammalian host species
thereby decreasing the pandemic risk to humans
All authors of this study were committed to high standards of inclusion and ethics in research
Clinical samples used in the present study were collected as part of routine diagnostic procedures and the data used for research
The findings of this study are reported transparently
with a commitment to accuracy and integrity
All data and results are presented without manipulation
and any limitations of the study are clearly acknowledged
Clinical history from all nine farms were obtained from the sample submission forms sent with the samples to the AHDC
Additional relevant information from each farm were obtained from attending veterinarians through investigations conducted by laboratory diagnosticians
Amplification and detection were performed using the Applied Biosystems 7500 Fast PCR Detection System (Thermo Fisher)
under the following conditions: 10 min at 45 °C for reverse transcription
and 45 cycles of 15 s at 94 °C for denaturation and 30 s at 60 °C for annealing and extension
Relative viral loads were calculated and are expressed as 45 rRT–PCR cycles minus the actual CT value (45-Ct)
Positive and negative amplification controls as well as internal inhibition controls were run side by side with test samples
Part of samples was also tested using 200 µl of undiluted milk and serum
These samples were extracted using the IndiMag Pathogen kit (INDICAL Bioscience) on the KingFisher Flex (Thermo Fisher)
and rRT–PCR was performed using the Path-ID Multiplex One-Step RT-PCR Kit (Thermo Fisher) under the following conditions: 10 min at 48 °C
and 40 cycles of 15 s at 95 °C for denaturation and 60 s at 60 °C
Paired serum samples collected during the acute and convalescent phase of infection from animals (n = 20) from farm 2 were used to determine seroconversion to HPAI H5N1 virus using the haemagglutination inhibition test
Serum haemagglutination inhibition activity was determined using BPL-inactivated A/Tk/IN/3707/22 antigen (clade 2.3.4.4b)
Haemagglutination inhibition titres are expressed as log2 values
with 1 log2 being the minimum titre considered positive
Virus isolation was performed in pooled milk samples from farms 1 and 2
Approximately 5 ml of milk from individual animals was pooled
and a total of 50 ml of pooled milk was centrifuged at 1,700g for 10 min at 4 °C
and the pellet was resuspended in 5 ml of sterile PBS–BSA (1%) followed by centrifugation at 1,700g for 10 min at 4 °C
The wash step was repeated one more time and the final pellet was resuspended in 1 ml PBS–BSA (1%)
Virus isolation was conducted in bovine uterine epithelial cells (Cal-1; developed in-house at the Virology Laboratory at AHDC) cultured in minimal essential medium (MEM; Corning) supplemented with 10% FBS and penicillin–streptomycin (Thermo Fisher Scientific; 10 U ml–1 and 100 µg ml–1
Cells were cultured in T25 flasks and inoculated with 1 ml of the milk pellet resuspension from infected cows and incubated at 37 °C for 1 h (adsorption)
and cells were washed once with PBS and replenished with 1 ml complete growth media (MEM 10% FBS)
Cells were monitored daily for the development of cytopathic effects (CPEs)
infected cells were harvested and cell suspensions were collected after three freeze–thaw cycles
The identity of the isolated virus was confirmed by rRT–PCR
an immunofluorescence assay using anti-nucleoprotein mouse monoclonal antibody (HB65
Cell nuclei were stained with 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI; 62248
The infectious viral loads in milk and tissues of infected animals were quantified by viral titrations
serial tenfold dilutions of rRT–PCR-positive milk samples and tissue homogenates were prepared in MEM and inoculated into Cal-1 cells in 96-well plates
Each dilution was inoculated in quadruplicate wells
and cells were fixed with 3.7% formaldehyde solution for 30 min at room temperature and subjected to an immunofluorescence assay using the anti-NP (HB65) mouse monoclonal antibody
Virus titres were determined using end-point dilutions and the Spearman and Karber’s method and expressed as TCID50 ml–1
tissue sections were deparaffinized with xylene
and blocked with peroxidase followed by antigen retrieval for 1 h
the V-InfluenzaA-H5N8-M2M1 probe (Advanced Cell Diagnostics)
and the RNAScope HD 2.5 assay were used as per the manufacturer’s instructions
ISH signals were amplified with multiple amplifiers conjugated with alkaline phosphatase enzymes
incubated with red substrate at room temperature for 10 min and counterstained with haematoxylin
IHC was performed at the University of Georgia Veterinary Diagnostic laboratory and the USDA-ARS Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory following standard diagnostic IHC procedure
tissue sections were treated with proteinase K for 5 min for antigen retrieval and incubated with monoclonal antibody to IAV M-protein (C65331M
Meridian Bioscience) at 1:100 dilution (UGA and VDL) or monoclonal antibody to influenza A NP (clone 4F1; 10780-01
Southern Biotech) at 1:2,000 dilution (SEPRL) for 1 h
the secondary antibody anti-mouse IgG (1070-04
Southern Biotech) at a 1:5,000 dilution was added and incubated with the slides for 1 h
All the slides were counterstained with haematoxylin
scanned at ×40 resolution and the digital slides were examined for virus tropism and tissue distribution
Whole-blood nasal swab samples were obtained from ten cows from farm 1 in Texas
Samples were submitted to the AHDC at Cornell University on 16 March 2024
metagenomic sequencing using the sequence-independent
single-primer amplification (SISPA) procedure
the Oxford Nanopore sequencing chemistry and GridION sequencing platform were performed as described below

Before Janis Joplin sadly entered the “27 Club” with her untimely death in 1970
she was a member of a de-facto clubhouse called Mnasidika
a boutique clothing store in Haight-Ashbury
seemed to dress every San Francisco-based band (Santana
even worked out a mutually profitable relationship with Mnasidika whereby customers who’d come in to buy Peggy’s clothes could purchase a concert ticket
In a 2021 interview on the Haight Street Voice podcast
Peggy recalled a British man named “Chas” and a shy guitarist who stopped by her shop
Chas announced he was managing the greatest guitarist in the world and asked if she could get him a meeting with Graham
Why would you be asking a jean pusher and say you have the best guitar player in the world?’ I looked at this Chas [Chandler
ex-bassist for the Animals] guy and the guitarist and told them ‘Sorry
I can’t.’ It turned out the guitarist was Jimi Hendrix and he was the best guitar player in the world.”
When musicians weren’t using Peggy for her perceived pull
Peggy was pulling the wool over the clothing industry—namely Levi Strauss
“One of the early hippie-ish type girls had split the side seam on her boyfriend’s Levi’s and inserted a paisley triangle.” Loving how the flared bottoms looked
Peggy’s mother agreed to sew a slew of flared jeans that San Franciscans ate up faster than Owsley’s acid
Peggy realized she needed a mass producer to satisfy the demand and ventured to Levi’s corporate office in San Francisco
her meeting with a highbrow higher-up did not go well
‘You know we have the best-selling jeans in the world and you come here and think you have a better idea?’ And when he was showing me the door
came walking down the hall and I was in a mini-skirt and fifteen pairs of beads around my neck and he yelled at me
‘Girly girl!’ And today you couldn’t get away with that and I thought
‘Yes sir?’ And he asked me what did I want and the rest is bellbottom history
That man took a chance on me but then I thought
Levi’s gave her a six-month exclusive on the new line which made Peggy a millionaire
most of the money went to heroin—as it did with her new friend
“The Grateful Dead lived at 710 Ashbury Street
I had opened my window and she was opening hers at the same time
‘Hiya honey!’ with her southern inflection
Seeing and hearing Janis sing later that night with Big Brother and the Holding Company was mind-altering.”
Looking back at their four-year relationship, Peggy revealed to New York Magazine’s Vulture blog in 2018: “I loved her
But to be her lover was to resign yourself to being invisible and as hard as it may be for people to understand now
the couple cut a wide swath of self-destruction
didn’t show up for a planned sex and drug-filled night with Janis at the Landmark Motor Hotel
who insisted in her autobiography that Janis died from breaking her nose and suffocating on her blood after falling in her room
continued running into self-made trouble that included agreeing to write with Dan Knapp Going Down With Janis (A Raw and Scathing Portrait of Janis Joplin by Her Female Lover)
Peggy shot up in a restroom then groggily answered Knapp’s questions which resulted in a tawdry memoir that she never lived down
“I sold out [$2,000] for drug money and I’ve lived in the shadow of it for 40-some-odd years
The ‘collaborator’ filled in what he didn’t know and the editors bypassed showing me the final text
Perhaps I had signed away that right in my drugged haze.”
culminating in a two-year prison stint for possessing heroin
When Peggy wasn’t cooking smack in a spoon
Two of her seedy crew wound up in a prison that allowed conjugal visits
so Peggy joined them in the jail where she helped her pals dig a tunnel and escape
“The End” of Peggy’s cinematic-like life occurred on November 21
She left behind a cabin in Tillamook County
Oregon and enough entertaining anecdotes to fill a TV series
The pilot episode should open with Janis driving her friend through Hollywood
Janis parked in front of Frederick’s of Hollywood and dashed in to buy lingerie only to return and tell Peggy the store wouldn’t accept a check from the singer because she wasn’t carrying any form of I.D
Problem-solving Peggy pointed to a newsstand that featured Joplin on the cover of Newsweek’s May 26
Janis presented the magazine to the sales staff and bought a bagful of lingerie then got an earful from Peggy because she was stoned and driving without a license—but at least Janis created a novel and new form of identification
Mark Daponte is a copy/blog writer for an advertising company and has published/sold four short stories
nine short screenplays (including two animation scripts) and punches up screenplays—because they don’t punch back
He has had six short comedic plays performed by various theater companies
When he isn’t sinking down to a thirteen-year-old’s level to make his teenaged sons laugh
he can be found seeking signs of intelligent life in his hometown of Brooklyn
Δdocument.getElementById("ak_js_1").setAttribute("value",(new Date()).getTime())
Peggy doesn’t sound like the gal you’d take home to meet the parents
And Jimi Hendrix wasn’t the greatest guitarist in the world…nobody ever knows who that is
who told the world about her relationship with Joplin in a revealing memoir in 1973 entitled Going Down With Janis
passed away at her Oregon cabin on November 21st
Her death has been announced by her friend and publisher
While Caserta would later dispute her own claims in the memoir by denying that there was ever a romantic relationship between her and Joplin
her stories candidly told of the singer’s life before her tragic death in 1970 at the age of 27
with revelations about her sexuality and drug use being heavily discussed
which Caserta later asserted was ghostwritten by another author and that her only contributions were made to help fund her heroin addiction
was met with both fierce criticism and praise at the time
it was viewed as scandalous and sensationalist
but others called it an important piece of writing that covered Joplin’s bisexuality in a way that was uncommon for its time
In a later 2018 memoir entitled I Ran Into Some Trouble
Caserta revisited many of the claims she had made in her initial publication
stating that many of the stories were fabrications of the truth
while also claiming that Joplin did not die of an overdose
but instead asphyxiated on her own blood after an accidental fall
Much of Caserta’s documentation of Joplin’s life has been used as source material for other retellings
with the 1979 Bette Midler film The Rose being an unauthorised fictionalisation based on the stories that Caserta had previously told in her memoirs
Caserta also advised the filmmaker Peter Newman with information for the lengthy production of his biopic Janis
which has been in the works for over 20 years
During her life, Joplin recorded four studio albums, two of which were with her band Big Brother and the Holding Company and the latter two recorded alongside other backing bands. Following her death, Joplin would go on to be regarded as one of the greatest vocalists of her generation and has continued to have a shining and influential legacy
Joplin was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside Neil Young
and was also posthumously recognised in 2005 with a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the Grammys

Overcoming some limits was one of your goals: how did it go? "He was referring above all to a more mental limit. My wealth of experience sometimes created difficulties for me because I tended to make comparisons with myself and instead of giving me confidence it brought me down, creating limits that weren't there. It's important to work on the mental approach as well as the physical one."
Caserta out of the tub? "I could be named the custodian of the Reggia, since I went there almost every day for a walk. I found people who I can say are true friends, who cheered me up during the periods when training was tougher. Imola is obviously home, but so is Caserta and when I have the chance I will return there".
What has Imolanuoto found? "I left young boys and girls who are now more mature, I think especially of Simone Cerasuolo who has grown a lot. Then there are new people from outside, a sign that Imola has become a great center to train, and I found Cesare Casella always super attentive to everyone's needs".
She will be among the veterans of the group. "I don't know if I have this calling, but I'm happy to lend a hand if someone needs it. In my time I looked up to the greatest and I think this has great value. We can teach today's youth a lot."
She says "The youth of today." As if she were old... "Well, I'm 30 years old, even if I still feel like the 2010-year-old who won my first title in XNUMX. But from a mental point of view I feel tired, in addition to some physical ailments."
Future plans? "I'm aiming for the Sette Colli and a few meetings in between, hoping that my condition will return to its best and that I will recover physically."

the Reggia di Caserta will host a new exhibition by Michelangelo Pistoletto (Biella
one of the most significant and prolific figures in contemporary Italian art
a leading figure in the radical renewal of artistic language and theArte Povera movement
entitled Metawork and curated by Tiziana Maffei
takes its name from the work Metawork-United Portraits
presented for the first time on this occasion. This work stems from photographic portraits of eight Cittadellarte citizens
subsequently reworked through an artificial intelligence program
in a process that recalls the transition from the personal to the collective dimension
as was already the case in the famous Quadri specchianti
produced by the Reggia di Caserta Museum in collaboration with Opera Laboratori
Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto and Galleria Continua
offers a deep immersion in the themes of metamorphosis and interconnectedness
central to the Biella artist’s vision
Prominent among the themes is the link between art and spirituality
is presented as a symbolic temple that brings together the main monotheistic religions-Christianity
Each faith is represented through a symbolic element placed in front of a mirror: a kneeler
Pistoletto’s art is distinguished by its dialogic approach
oriented toward exchange and confrontation
It is an ever-evolving quest to re-establish an authentic connection between the art world and everyday life
taking art outside its boundaries and integrating it into the human experience
Pistoletto presented at the Venice Biennale the project Love Difference - Artistic Movement for an Intermediterranean Politics
represented by a large mirrored table modeled on the shape of the Mediterranean
surrounded by chairs from the countries bordering this sea
he made the first permanent installation of the Love Difference slogan
with neon lettering in different languages
on the facade of the multi-ethnic market in Turin’s Piazza della Repubblica
represents a synthesis of Pistoletto’s political and artistic vision
as expressed in his 2002 manifesto: “Uniformity and difference are antagonistic terms that reflect the deepest conflicting tension of global reality
A politics that teaches to love differences is essential for new social perspectives.”
Naked Mass of 2020 portrays human figures without clothing
while the series Division Multiplication-Third Paradise reflects on the tension between nature and artifice
The latter is developed through eight pairs of mirrors on which appears the symbol of the Third Paradise
a reworking of the mathematical sign of infinity
where a central third circle represents the womb of a new humanity
the ideal outcome of the synthesis between the two opposite poles
Other mirror works in the exhibition include QR Code Possession - Self-Portrait
in which twelve QR codes tattooed on the artist’s body refer to key moments in his production
which reworks Michelangelo Buonarroti’s iconic Creation of Adam
creative generation does not occur from contact with the divine hand
but emerges from the human hand alone through the mirroring device
QR Code Possession - The Formula of Creation Meetings (2023) presents twenty canvases that
lead to discussions about the book The Formula of Creation between the artist and personalities from various fields
Also on view in the Grand Gallery is Labyrinth
first presented in his solo show at the Boymanns Museum in Amsterdam in 1969
“The labyrinth is a highly symbolic place
The legend of the Minotaur stands for the monster that lives within us and the possibility that all of us
at some time in our private lives or in our collective lives
My labyrinth is made of corrugated cardboard
a flexible material that allows it to take any shape and fit into any space
In a sense it is like the mirror that accommodates any image
It presents itself as a physical element that is at the same time strongly linked to the imagination,” said Pistoletto
“An important exhibition that in its multiplicity enhances multiple themes consistent with our museum mission,” says Tiziana Maffei
curator of the exhibition and director of the Reggia di Caserta - The red thread is with Terrae Motus that constantly brings the Reggia back to the steps of contemporaneity with the artists involved
The attention to dialogue and art-in this place that is the space of an international diplomacy founded on cultural confrontation
experimentation and innovation-find here a persistent reference
it is a metaphorical tribute to the work that the Reggia carries out with commitment
releasing material creative technical energy on a daily basis
I thank Master Michelangelo Pistoletto and the different actors in this operation for taking up the invitation of the Reggia
The Grand Gallery space thus continues its journey in content construction by expanding its cultural offerings in a rich system of relationships."
A visit to the exhibition is included in the cost of a ticket/subscription to the Reggia di Caserta Museum
The Royal Palace of Caserta is expanding its museum offerings: throughout the fall and winter
the Court Theater will open almost every day
with more extended hours and arrangements than usual
despite the museum’s very serious staff shortage. The Court Theater of the Royal Palace of Caserta
inaugurated on the occasion of the visit of the new Queen Maria Carolina
is a jewel of 18th-century theatrical architecture
acoustic quality and sumptuousness of its decorations
Work on the palace had already been underway for a few months when King Charles of Bourbon asked architect Luigi Vanvitelli to build it
located in buildings off-center from the central core of the royal residences
this space is inserted in one of the bodies of the Reggia and perfectly integrated into the system of pathways
it is located in the center of the western side of the Palace
It has a horseshoe shape with five tiers of boxes
The frescoed vault with Apollo trampling the serpent Python
An element that characterizes the theater scene is also the possibility of using the green area behind it as a natural backdrop
The expedient was devised in 1722 on the occasion of the performance of Pietro Metastasio’s Dido Abandoned
which involved the burning of the city of Carthage: an opening was opened on the wall behind the stage with a view of the Malalocata garden
The Court Theater will be open (except for free days when it will be closed):
- and on Saturdays and Sundays (thanks to the collaboration of the Italian Touring Club) from 10 a.m
- and on Saturdays and Sundays (thanks to the cooperation of the Italian Touring Club) from 10 a.m

industry-leading enterprise data environments.”
Our relationship with Caserta began more than a decade ago; they helped build our internal knowledge management platform
when a client enlisted Caserta to bring its data assets to the cloud
we partnered with Caserta to help a financial services client launch a new business offering data and analytics software to a new market
Caserta mobilized improvements in the performance and stability of their cloud-based data infrastructure
improved the pace at which new features could be launched
and began coaching and developing the client’s engineering team
The data-driven enterprise of 2025Rapidly accelerating technology advances
and increasing data literacy are changing what it means to be “data driven.”
“The teams at Caserta want to work on challenging, cutting-edge problems, and they want their work to have impact for businesses—and their employees, particularly through capability building,” says Kayvaun Rowshankish
McKinsey senior partner and global co-leader of the firm’s Data Transformation Practice
“Unlike a lot of other data engineering shops
which tend to want to build code and get out
Caserta is more focused on long-term impact
considered a visionary and pioneer in the data-engineering space
Caserta has established a stellar reputation
having designed and implemented cutting-edge data architectures for many Fortune 100 companies
They have built and created cloud native data lakes
and pioneering thought leadership in metaverse data engineering
they helped a leading music streaming service build out the complex cloud platform crucial to its operations
McKinsey was the model I used to stay laser-focused on positively impacting the goals of our clients,” says Joe
“There is nothing more exciting as a CEO of a tech consulting firm than building a business around solving uniquely complex problems
having our teams get completely immersed in issues that matter
actionable solutions that launch our clients into success.”
Caserta has created a unique approach to solve the most complex data engineering challenges
They use a proprietary method of linking business needs into tailored data architecture designs
This acquisition creates a significant opportunity to help clients overcome the challenges in building competitive
industry-leading enterprise data environments
“Data is integral to every transformation that’s happening across sectors and geographies in the next three to five years
It’s the competitive edge most firms will be creating and defending and an area where we will see the greatest innovation,” says Kayvaun
“The combination of McKinsey and Caserta will position us to play a pivotal role in moving industries to the next stage of technology transformation.”
Caserta enhances how we can work with clients on data strategy and design
They strengthen our ability to deliver end-to-end data transformations
and talent to implement cloud data architectures at enterprise scale
all of which is core to our clients’ digital and analytics development
“Having Caserta join McKinsey allows us the opportunity to solve more comprehensive data challenges and have a significantly elevated role in advancing businesses and society with data,” says Joe
“I am very excited to apply our joint efforts to creatively and deliberately improve lives and businesses around the world.”
The year 2024 marked a year of transformation for the Royal Palace of Caserta
a symbol of Italian cultural heritage and a UNESCO site: the institute now makes it known that 2025 opens with renewed prospects
under the banner of the continuation of that structural plan that has already been launched and that aims to improve the quality of services
A tangible and already achieved example of this commitment is the return to the public of spaces of extraordinary value such as thewest wing of the royal palace and the Graefer Greenhouses
the first example in Italy of a public-private partnership applied to a historic garden. The year 2024 began with a historic event: the visit of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to inaugurate the Grand Gallery
a moment that moved the entire staff of the Museum
a series of initiatives punctuated the year
such as “Visions,” Danilo Ambrosino’s “In the King’s Garden,” Marco Bagnoli’s “The Stone the Sun Reveals,” and “Metawork - Michelangelo Pistoletto at the Royal Palace of Caserta.”
fundamental works for the preservation and revitalization of the complex have been initiated
such as the renovation of the facades and roofs
and the opening of a new access in Corso Giannone
The Royal Park also benefited from plant heritage studies and resurfacing of the waterway avenues
the Royal Palace has had to contend with serious critical issues
This has necessitated judicious management
with restrictions on access during free days and constant monitoring to avoid losing important funding and ensure the regular opening of museum spaces
the Museum experienced significant growth in the number of subscribers and school visitors
over 106 thousand and 116 thousand admissions
valuable collaborations were activated such as those for the “Queens Jam,” “OroRe” wine
and the “Masters at the Reggia” project
The Royal Palace of Caserta is thus preparing for a 2025 full of challenges but also opportunities
Ongoing projects include the redevelopment of the Passionist Complex with “Reggia in art and design” and the strengthening of international relations
as demonstrated by the Technical Meeting of European Royal Residences hosted this year
the complex is confirmed as a cultural and tourist landmark
Behind every milestone achieved is the tireless work of a dedicated team
with the common goal of honoring Luigi Vanvitelli’s vision
wants to design a future of growth and innovation for a place that is a symbol of Italian heritage
When most Aussies enter a racehorse into their Blackbook
they have dollar signs in their eyes as they ponder a punting windfall
But when Matt Caserta gets a Blackbook notification that Far Too Easy is about to race, special memories of his adored twin brother Chris come flooding back
Far Too Easy, a well-fancied contender in Saturday's $2m The Kosciuszko on Everest day at Randwick, has a unique place in the heart of Melbourne carpenter Matt.
Matt was there when the horse bolted in at its first start at Grafton in June 2021
driving his much-loved jockey brother Chris to the races and cheering from trackside
He remembers fondly how his brother, who tragically drowned during a fateful Surfers Paradise swim later that year, thought the world of David McColm's horse

\"I went and watched Chris ride the horse the first time and when we were driving back after the race
Chris said he had this gut feeling it was going to go on to much bigger and better things,\" Matt Caserta told Racenet
\"I have this horse Blackbooked in my phone
so I get a notification every time it races
\"And that's purely because of what Chris told me that day
\"I'm not as much into the racing scene as I used to be when Chris was around
\"I will 100 per cent watch The Kosciuszko on Saturday and I'll be cheering this horse for Chris.\"

the unspeakable tragedy in late 2021 was also mixed with incredible joy
Two days before twin brother Chris passed away
Matt Caserta became a father for the first time
Leonardo Matteo Christopher Caserta came into the world
but the joy of a newborn was soon spliced with terrible tragedy
trying to be happy and joyous about the birth of my first kid but then Chris passed away
\"Everything that happened with Chris and trying to juggle my emotions with a newborn and the timing of it is a blur
\"Chris never got to meet my son and we have since had a daughter (Sofia) who he never got to meet either
\"So for him to never get the chance to meet my son and my daughter
\"Chris and I did taekwondo and martial arts together and we used to teach classes with kids
\"The kids always loved Chris and he always loved them.\"

Before his young life was cut short at age 26
Chris Caserta was a pint-sized jockey who rode 154 winners
The Casertas weren't a racing family before Chris
Chris Caserta had moved from Victoria to Queensland to get more opportunities as a jockey and Matt is certain if his brother was alive today
\"Chris came from a non horse racing background and it gave him more motivation and more drive to get to the top,\" Matt said

he really settled himself down and he got his mind in the right head space
\"We used to watch his races replays all the time and I really cherished doing that
\"My birthday doesn't really feel like a birthday anymore
\"I have had two birthdays since Chris passed and it's obviously not the same anymore.\"
After Caserta rode Far Too Easy to its first two Grafton wins
he told his manager at the time Garry Legg that the young horse was so good it could even win a Group 1 Newmarket Handicap in Melbourne
Caserta told anyone who would listen how talented the horse was

Far Too Easy has won more than $1.3m in a career which has been interrupted by deadly floodwaters raging through his Murwillumbah stables and some serious medical issues
Racenet reported last month that Far Too Easy had been so sick with colitis earlier this year that his tearful trainer McColm hugged his favourite horse and said a final goodbye
The now six-year-old gelding made an incredible return to racing at Eagle Farm last month and trainer McColm is convinced he has got him on song to score the rich Kosciuszko prize
After finishing third and second in the last two runnings of The Kosciuszko
it really would be a racing fairytale if Far Too Easy could score on Saturday
And there won't be a dry eye in the Caserta house
