2025) -- The Amarillo Sod Poodles (2-10) fell to the Frisco RoughRiders (9-3)
The visitors out-hit the hosting RoughRiders
but drop their fourth straight in the two-run contest
It would be Frisco who cracked the scoreboard first this evening
debuting for the RoughRiders on a rehab assignment
launched a solo home run beyond the left field wall in the first inning
A sacrifice fly and an RBI single later in the frame gave Frisco the early 3-0 lead
The Sod Poodles earned a run back in their second turn at-bat courtesy of a Christian Cerda solo blast to cut into the home team’s advantage as the catcher picked up his second home run of the season
Frisco tacked on two more in a similar fashion to their first inning scoring log
collecting the pair of runs via a sacrifice fly from Sebastian Walcott and an RBI single from Josh Hatcher
Following the run-scoring single from the hometown left fielder
Avery Short set down the next seven Frisco batters in a row
The Soddies’ starter trotted back out for the sixth
inducing a fielder’s choice and a strikeout before his night was complete
keeping the score at 5-1 after getting Walcott to ground out to end the frame
With a pair of runners aboard in the top of the eighth
Gavin Conticello came through with a broken-bat two-RBI double down the left field line to cut the deficit in half
Jose Fernandez checked into the game with a pinch-hit single in the ninth to bring the tying run to the dish in Amarillo’s final turn at bat
but he would be stranded on first as Frisco escaped with the 5-3 victory over the Sod Poodles
The Soddies return to Riders Field tomorrow with a 7:05 p.m
2.61) will take the hill for Amarillo while RHP Ben Anderson (0-1
5.87) will get the starting nod for Frisco
MELLOW CELLO: Picking up two RBI tonight was Gavin Conticello who went 1-for-4 at the dish with a double...he’s driven in a run in three straight games
becoming the first Soddie this season to pick up multiple RBI in consecutive games
CERDA-FIED BALLER: Checking in with his second home run of the season this evening was Christian Cerda
going 2-for-4 in the contest...five of his most recent seven games have included multi-hit performances...he boasts the best batting average on the team at .382 (13-for-34)
ranking fourth among qualified Texas League hitters this season
ROBINSON: Putting together a multi-hit performance tonight was Kristian Robinson
going 2-for-5 with a run scored...he has hit safely in three straight games
scoring a run in each of his most recent five games
the longest active streak among Amarillo bats

IATA's Peter Cerda (right) speaks on stage with Routes Editor-in-Chief David Casey at Routes Americas 2024 in Bogota
The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) said Peter Cerda
the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Americas regional vice president
will become its new executive director and CEO in March
who has been ALTA’s CEO since June 2020
“IATA has agreed that Peter can continue in his current role and consolidate both leadership positions to strengthen the management and work of ALTA and IATA in the region,” ALTA said in a statement
becoming a familiar figure in Latin American and Caribbean aviation circles lobbying governments on behalf of the region’s airlines
He has long pushed for the region’s governments to lower taxation on airlines
Taxes on flight tickets often drive up the cost of traveling to the region to the detriment of local economies
“There are periods of time in the year—the Caribbean high season—when it’s more expensive to fly from the U.S
than it is to fly from Miami to Dubai,” he told Aviation Week recently
“A lot of it has to do with the amount of taxes and fees that are added onto the ticket.”
Cerda has pushed governments to use taxes on airlines to fund infrastructure improvements at airports
“If it goes into the central coffers
it’s not being actually reinvested into airports or aviation,” he said
Cerda has also emphasized safety as the airline industry’s top priority
10 at the Routes Americas conference in Nassau
Cerda said the recent fatal accident near Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA) was a “wake-up call
Safety is the most important day-to-day activity that our industry is working on—and we have to continue that.”
ALTA praised Ricardo for guiding the organization through an “exceptionally challenging period
skillfully navigating the turbulence of the pandemic.”
Cerda will officially take over ALTA’s CEO position on March 15
He has a “clear mission: to contribute to sustainable development over time and the sustainability of air transport in Latin America and the Caribbean,” ALTA said

A Mexican author is a finalist for 2025’s coveted International Booker Prize
which is awarded exclusively to translated fiction
Dahlia de la Cerda — the only Hispanic author to have made it onto the prize’s longlist this year — was nominated to the list of 13 finalists for her debut book, “Perras de Reserva“ (translated into English as “Reservoir Bitches”)
the title a nod to the Quentin Taratino film “Reservoir Dogs.”
originally published in Spanish by Mexican publisher Sexto Piso in 2022
has been longlisted for its English edition
published by Scribe UK and translated by Julia Sanches and Heather Cleary
even if she’s foaming at the mouth,” the book’s blurb on the Booker site says
The quote captures the irreverent and angry tone of de la Cerda’s short-story collection
made up of 13 stories about 13 women facing daily life in Mexico
with its constellation of gender violence and marginalization
Among the raw subjects her stories cover are clandestine abortion and femicide
The Booker committee calls “Reservoir Bitches” a “gritty
De la Cerda told the newspaper Excelsior that her goal “was to show a variety of diverse women — in very adverse
complex contexts — and to have them be different voices from those that had been heard in literature.”
According to De la Cerda’s website
the main influences on her vision and writing are her childhood and young adult experiences in the state of Jalisco
Born into a family she said was “unrelated to art,” in Aguascalientes
with parents who worked in nightclubs and bars
de la Cerda studied philosophy but couldn’t graduate due to a lack of resources
“I am a companion in self-managed abortions
and I am passionate about exploring violence in its multiple forms,” she says about herself on her website
considers novels and short-story collections originally written in foreign languages and translated to English for publication in the United Kingdom or Ireland
The jury evaluated 154 works submitted by publishers, all published (or to be published) between May 1, 2024, and April 30, 2025. The longlist includes authors from Palestine
The £50,000 award is divided in half between author and translator

The fatal midair collision involving an American Airlines flight and a U.S
Army helicopter near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) has served as a stark reminder of aviation’s fragility despite its strong safety record
Speaking at Routes Americas 2025 in Nassau and Paradise Island in the Bahamas
Cerdá said the accident underscores the need for ongoing investment in safety
workforce development and modernization of air traffic management systems
“Aviation has long been the safest mode of transportation
but it is also fragile,” Cerdá said
research and ensure that training is in place
that we have enough personnel and that we’re constantly improving our systems.”
29 crash between American Eagle Flight 5342 and a Black Hawk helicopter near DCA resulted in 67 fatalities
The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident
Cerdá stressed that while accidents of this nature remain rare
they serve as a critical reminder of the industry’s ongoing responsibility to maintain the highest safety standards
“It is a wake-up call,” he said
“Safety is the most important day-to-day activity that our industry is working on—and we have to continue that.”
More News And Analysis From Routes Americas 2025
The collision has also reignited concerns about air traffic control (ATC) staffing shortages and outdated infrastructure—an issue Cerdá described as an ongoing challenge
has faced a shortage of air traffic controllers
contributing to delays and operational inefficiencies
“We’ve been talking about NextGen [ATC] modernization for over 15 years
and we’re no better off than we were several years ago,” Cerdá said
which only adds pressure to the system.”
The FAA has acknowledged ATC staffing shortages
and has outlined plans to recruit and train more controllers
Cerdá warned that without immediate and sustained investment
the entire system collapses,” he said
“We need technology and staffing solutions to ensure reliability and efficiency
Travelers expect to get from point A to point B on time
Cerdá also linked air traffic inefficiencies to sustainability concerns
explaining that unnecessary holding patterns and delays waste fuel and increase carbon emissions
“We have to continue to look into our systems … as the day safety ceases to be our top priority is the day our industry ends,” he added

After an external investigation concluded that Council Member Wanda Love acted inappropriately towards two unnamed staff members
she was formally censured at the City Council meeting on the evening of Tuesday
“The accusations against me rely on an investigative report by Attorney Jeffrey Love
which lacks publicly verifiable evidence and transparency
The vague allegations of ‘unfounded criticisms and targeting’ are unsupported by specific examples
making them impossible to meaningfully dispute.”
Mayor Tasha Cerda spoke to the GVN this past week
In regards to the council members minus Love voting 3-1 in favor of reading out the findings from Closed Session during the public part of the meeting (Council Member Paulette Francis being the one nay vote)
“I’m not saying that this is something that the council normally does
as far as taking a vote to read the comments out
Is this something that is to be read out or not
and because this kind of behavior has been going on for some time now
and because of the fact that we had to spend $20,000 of taxpayers money
I thought it was important that they understand
So this is part of just being fair and transparent.”
I made a directive that we have put on the agenda
because it’s important again for our employees as well as the community to know that as elected officials
we need to be accountable for our actions,” Cerda continued
“And this is just what it costs for the investigator
that’s not including the three training classes that have to be taken
to be sued by these employees if they choose to
So there’s still more money that could be spent as a result of this here
So when we decided to move forward with the censure
it was three training classes [teaching] how to handle situations better.”
Love would no longer be able to attend her regular conferences
“The City won’t pay for it as it relates to the registration
and this was probably the most important thing as elected officials: If we have any issues or concerns
it is never our job to go to any staff member or director and try to chastise them or question them
All of our communication should be directed to the City Manager or the City Attorney
because that’s just not what our role is
the last part of the censure states that that she is not to talk to any director or staff member
and then I’ve made an exception and said HR and our secretary
so that they she could get whatever information she needed
had any other Council Member behaved the same way
“And here’s the other side of it–if we have any employees or directors that say that they feel that something’s been done wrong
and they bring it to our attention right away
my first phone call is to the City Attorney and the City Manager
this is California state law–it’s for their protection as well as ours.”
We put it to Mayor Cerda that there has been tension between Love and the other sitting members of the council (with the exception of Francis) from the moment that Love was sworn in
“Prior to Council Member Love joining the City Council
there were a lot of awkward situations that she caused as a President or the head person of the Chamber of Commerce,” Cerda said
but her actions were so rude to our staff members that we just couldn’t have that
I had hoped that when she came on our council
it was a fresh opportunity to start new with the council members
Council Member Love made it very clear in the very beginning
I’m not well liked,’ and that’s not true
her social media postings have been making wild accusations
I don’t know anything about her personal business
So it’s a weird thing of trying to play the victim.”
Love was democratically chosen for the council
and the council members will have to continue to work together for the good of the City of Gardena
it’s unlikely that Love will be voted Mayor Pro Tem any time soon
there’s not been an order for every member of the Council to have that position,” Cerda said
you’re nominated by a council member
we’re five different people with our own individual ideas and aspirations and experiences
we should at least be able to be cordial with each other and just have basic conversation
‘I’m not on this council to make friends.’ That’s not a prerequisite to be voted as Mayor Pro Tem
But her actions are so ugly towards the rest of us that I don’t think anybody
maybe with the exception of Council Member Francis
If I’m not around you fill in for me
and some of the actions that she’s done
where she’s tried to tear the city apart
the way she’s talked about other elected officials and staff
I don’t see right now that I would feel comfortable with her representing me when I’m not around.”
the council organized assignments to redistribute those that Love would now no longer be able attend

Acquired: Traded from Rays in exchange for OF David Peralta in 2022
Christian Cerda is a 21 year old Catcher out of New York who has shown some significant promise as a young prospect
The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired him from the Tampa Bay Rays in 2022 in exchange for longtime D-back David Peralta
moving on from one of their biggest franchise icons
and what they got in exchange seems to be an exciting young catcher
It was a tale of two seasons for Cerda in 2024
Things started disastrously for the young righty
only hitting .136 in April with the High A Hillsboro Hops
May didn't go much better with a .212 batting average and an OPS of .540
He hit to a .907 OPS with an incredible .382 batting average
2nd among all High A Catchers in that span
as his on-base jumped from .297 in May to .471 in June
For this he was awarded Diamondbacks MiLB Offensive Player of the Month in June
but things didn't slow down too much for the backstop
Cerda hit to an .814 OPS from July 1st till August 22nd when he was promoted to AA Amarillo
He ended his time with Hillsboro with a .243/.364/.332 slash line
as Cerda clearly proved his ability to hit High A pitching
but AA comes with its own challenges as pitching takes another step up
but posted a .394 OBP thanks to a whopping 24.2% walk rate
Cerda threw out 25% of would be base stealers
and his overall defense was deemed to have made significant strides by the D-backs player development staff
Cerda has shown his ability to take a walk and get on base at both High-A and Double-A
He took a step back in the power department however
managing just 14 doubles and five homers in 2024
If his bat is going to play in the major leagues he's going to need to find a way to do more damage on contact
If he can do that without sacrificing his plate discipline and ability to take a walk
he'll have a good chance to make it to the show in a couple of years
The majority of Cerda's 2025 year will likely be spent with Amarillo in AA in just his age 22 season
That's a full two years younger than the age of the average player in that league
Catchers often take a little longer to develop
but Cerda is well on his way towards a late 2026 ETA in the major leagues

SimpliSafe’s Active Guard system highlighted at CES integrates AI and live agent monitoring to prevent crimes before they happen
reduce false alarms and improve real-time intervention
AI & Vertical Integration Drive Innovation: CEO Christian Cerda says SimpliSafe's full-stack approach — designing hardware
and monitoring in-house — sets it apart from competitors
Balancing Competition & Industry Collaboration: Cerda says that even while competing with traditional alarm providers
SimpliSafe advocates for industry-wide cooperation on standards like AVS-01 to improve security solutions for consumers and first responders
SimpliSafe has grown to be one of the most visible home security companies in the United States
thanks to an aggressive marketing strategy coupled with easy-to-use and implement technology
the company showcased its Active Guard system; however
Cerda – who was named CEO of the company in late 2019 – tended to delve deeper into the company’s overall strategy
the evolution of monitoring required for systems like Active Guard
and the company’s perception among its competitors in the alarm industry
CES is very important – it is a moment to check out the latest technologies and products
and also to continue the communication of our recent launches
Cerda: Let me start by commenting on false alarms
it is completely unacceptable that as a security industry
we started with video verification and as we communicate with first responders
we pass on what we see and create that prioritization
We are also one of the first brands in the industry to have adopted [The Monitoring Association’s] AVS-01 [alarm scoring standard]
And we have gone through a whole series of UX app interactions
we have had a meaningful reduction of our false alarm rates
we want to prevent a crime before it happens
it's better to have an alarm than not have it
but you really don't want to be in your bedroom with a bad person already inside your home or at the front door
We launched this product this summer and we are seeing some incredible outcomes – people with a crowbar in their hands that are caught by our AI and then intervened by our human agents
we caught someone breaking into a car outside of a home
We have seen people carrying the ladders to [access] the second floor
So we are seeing real cases of how this technology is keeping people safe way beyond what traditional technology was able to
Cerda: The need to feel safe is a fundamental need
and I think all of your readers and listeners who are part of the industry would know that the consumer need is there and is bigger than it has ever been
we can bring the solution at affordable prices
Cerda: I think AVS-01 is a great thing for the industry and we fully support it
I think that there are two key drivers to how we were able to offer this service at 49.99 per month. The first one is AI and how AI will significantly transform the security industry – opening solutions and use-cases that were absolutely not possible before
The depth of technology that you need to have in order to make this happen is quite meaningful
and I think it will continue to open this breach between the providers that have the depth of technologies and the ones that do not
The other thing that has enabled us to deliver this – and for us it has been quite hard – I cannot even imagine how someone or we would've pulled it off without a full vertical integration
We work on the type and quality of the AI that lives at the edge
We have our own AI teams that do the modeling both at the edge and in the cloud
Because we can align all this tech stack under a single objective
Most of our competitors buy the hardware from one person
Philosophically here [we use] the same approach as Tesla – they build the AI
They also believe you can't pull it off by buying the AI and then building the car
We have a similar philosophy – in order to pull it off
we need to find a solution coordinating all the different layers
Cerda: Our philosophy here is that AI will have two implications
The first one is going to change the cost structure because all of the non-value add [AVS-01 level zero and level one] will be automated
That will open up the creation of new services
I don't envision monitoring centers disappearing
We envision – and this is part of our SimpliSafe philosophy – the integration of technology and people to provide security
Security is transactional and it's emotional; I'm not sure that AI can yet pull off the emotional side
and the complete understanding of what's happening
So there will definitely be roles for humans
but what they are doing will change drastically
Maybe AI will leave all of us without jobs
but our philosophy is that the automation that will transform the industry is absolutely needed
but [that alone] is not sufficient [without human interaction]
We should all try to make ourselves better and push ourselves to win the next customer
I think that is the essence of all of us – we are all trying to gain households
and I think it's great and it will push us all to become better
or making sure we are not absorbing too much of the capacity of first responders
We absolutely need to pull together as an industry and serve our customers
We should all be a team there and find common solutions to better take care of the problem that we are solving
Cerda: Our mission is to keep every home secure
Our vision is to do it through the integration of expert security agents and technology
Our big difference is our channel of distribution
and I think most of the industry sells door-to-door
Most or all of the traditional competitors have a website
And a recent change that we have had is we offer professional installation
and other customers are proficient enough to do the self-install
So there are different type of customers and there are different ways of giving value to them
There is absolutely a place for the local alarm guy...You have an incredible advantage being local
There is absolutely a place for the local alarm guy
What I would advise them is provide an amazing service to the household; visit them; make sure that their alarms are working well and their sensors are working
You have an incredible advantage for being local
Make sure that your customer is happy and there will be a place for them
We are trying to make our system every time more easy to install
and we are trying to attend to the household that is looking for that

Lexi’s passion for her job knew no bounds. She loved all her students and always showed it in her work. She would change up the artwork in the room for holidays and seasons. Her inspiration from her students also showed in the new projects she would come up with for them. They loved their Teacher Lexi, and she loved each and every one of them as if they were her own children. She had an undeniable passion, and she will be sorely missed as a teacher.
Lexi was a guide to all her siblings. She was always there for her family whenever they needed her advice or even if they just needed to talk. As a mother to her boys, Lexi was extremely devoted to them. She loved, guided, nurtured, and helped them. She saw the boys as her greatest gift, and she always made sure to take good care of them, no matter what.
Lexi was also extremely creative and artful. A wonder with makeup, Lexi loved trying and creating new styles, each more beautiful than the last. At one point, Lexi thought of going into cosmetology school, before she found her true passion in teaching. She loved coloring and drawing as well. She would regularly be coloring or drawing pictures as a pastime and leisurely activity. Her beauty and style in her art forms were of unmatched quality.
Lexi loved watching the NFL, and rooted for her favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. If you ever called her during a game, you knew she would be yelling and screaming at her tv, coaching her
favorite team from hundreds of miles away. Lexi was a loving and dedicated mother, sister, and daughter, a devoted teacher, and a warm and nurturing soul. She loved spending time with her boys and her family, making jokes, sharing stories, and laughing like crazy. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.

finishing out the season with a 58-70 record
25.5 games out of playoff reach in Southern Division of the Texas League
wrapped up his 2024 campaign with more optimism
reaching Double-A in just his second year of full-season ball at 21 years old
Acquired by the Diamondbacks at the 2022 trade deadline from the Rays as a PTBNL for outfielder David Peralta
Cerda has steadily risen through the minor league ranks
Cerda slashed a mild .237/.369/.322 this season
but his offensive outlook is more intriguing under the numbers
Cerda struggled at the plate to kick off 2024
Through the first three-and-a-half months of the High-A season
Cerda hit to a minuscule .042 ISO (isolated power) in 62 games
that came despite putting up quality batted-ball numbers
as he hit to a 0.98 GB/FB (groundball-to-flyball ratio) and a 45.3% Pull rate - two key power indicators - with the Hops in 2024
In his next and last 26 games with the Hillsboro Hops
Cerda's power numbers improved a great deal
while his plate discipline got better as well
Cerda drew a walk 20% of the time and only struck out 14% of the time
Those stats put his slash line at an impressive .296/.442/.506 for a 166 wRC+ (66% above average) to finish out his time with Hillsboro
but Cerda posted above-average results (106 wRC+) in 17 games in Double-A
His plate discipline stuck with him as he walked in over a fifth (21.3%) of his plate appearances
his .357 BABIP was well above his prior minor league averages
Cerda's profile stands out in many ways
an extremely valuable skill in today's game
he's maintained a patient approach at the plate that's helped him get on base a lot
posting a .369 OBP across his first two full seasons in the minors
Cerda's offensive output has come from his ability to minimize his swings
hitting to sub-40 percent ground ball rates at every minor league level
His line-drive rate has even risen at every level of the minors
posting pull rates around 45% with every team
Cerda has a 45-grade power on the 20-80 scale per both MLB.com and Baseball America
have put the Arizona Diamondbacks in a strong position behind the plate
and there could be even more help on the way in Christian Cerda
He doesn't have the same hype as Moreno and Del Castillo
a former coveted prospect and a former top draft pick respectively
he's shown as much potential as most in Arizona's reputable system

feminism has taken center stage in the political agenda at the same time as femicide and gender violence have escalated to unprecedented levels
de la Cerda has been a topic of conversation for the rawness of her texts and the forcefulness of her political position
she draws attention for writing about what others are afraid to write about
what people feel uncomfortable looking at: the reality of millions of women in this country
In 2009 she won the Los Arquitos Cultural Center’s Letras de la Memoria contest and in 2015 received a PECDA artist grant from the State of Aguascalientes
De la Cerda won the National Endowment for Culture and Arts’ (Fonca) coveted Jóvenes Creadores (Young Creators) grant in 2016 and 2018
De la Cerda burst into prominence with her 2022 short story collection “Perras de Reserva,” a book of short stories that tear at the crudeness of gender violence
In her “Perras de Reserva” — which has since been translated into five languages and recently won a PEN Translates award as “Reservoir Bitches,” in Julia Sanches and Heather Cleary’s English translation — de la Cerda makes no concessions
She knows the violent reality of the country she lives in because she has experienced it firsthand and is confident that only by narrating the reality with which it exists can she really make those who are more privileged understand that this violence is systemic in our country
and that it puts thousands of lives at risk every day
Discussing the stories and the women she gives voice to
the writer from Aguascalientes said in an interview with Excelsior that her goal “was to show a variety of diverse women
and to have them different voices from those that had been heard in literature.” In an interview with the newspaper El Universal
“In the case of women who come from precarious backgrounds
we needed to mirror ourselves in literature.”
In her 2023 book “Desde los Zulos,” de la Cerda is even more irreverent and contentious
exposing disputes for power and economic resources between different social movements
the imperative need to articulate a feminist movement that transcends the traditional concepts of white feminism
She is in favor of a movement that centers women who fight from the margins: racialized women who fight against classism and racism
In addition to her literary work, de la Cerda is co-founder and co-director of Morras help Morras
an organization that advocates for legal abortion and the dissemination of information on this issue so that it can be available to everyone
Camila Sánchez Bolaño is a journalist
and cultural promoter and is Editor in Chief of Newsweek en Español magazine
