About 800 million euros ($905 million) will be allocated for the acquisition and installation of anti-tank mines to deter potential aggression by Martin Fornusek, The Kyiv Independent news deskPresident Volodymyr Zelensky addressing the 50th Cernobbio Forum in Cernobbio (Presidential Office)Ukraine is grateful for air defenses provided by its partners but they are still "not enough to secure our entire territory and repel every Russian attack," President Volodymyr Zelensky said during his visit to Italy on Sept "Ukraine is not asking for anything more than what your country or any other country already has," Zelensky said in a speech at the 50th Cernobbio Forum in northern Italy The Ukrainian president arrived in Italy to meet with local business leaders and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as Kyiv increasingly calls for additional air defenses and other aid to repel Russian aggression Zelensky's trip to Italy came right after his visit to Germany, where he received additional pledges of military assistance at the 24th Ramstein group meeting and held talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz "Our people are under constant threat of Russian missile and drone strikes every, every night and every day," Zelensky said in Italy, reminding recent deadly attacks against the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv, Poltava, and Lviv we have air defense systems – also thanks to Italy But it is not enough to secure our entire territory and repel every Russian attack." Jointly with France, Italy has provided Ukraine with a SAMP/T air defense system in 2023 and pledged to deliver a second one this year There has been no confirmation on the delivery of the second battery with Zelensky complaining on several occasions that the pledged air defenses are being delayed "We just want no father in our country to have to bury his wife and daughters because they were killed by Russian missiles… We just we just want Ukrainian boys and girls to never again suffer because they cannot help their parents who are in Russian-occupied territories," the president said A Russian attack against the western city of Lviv on Sept including a mother and her three daughters leaving only the father of the family alive "What does (Russian President Vladimir) Putin want to achieve with all this We did not want to take anything from Russia But it was Putin who wanted to take our land – and he occupied our territory," the president stressed Zelensky met with representatives of over 30 leading Italian companies on the sidelines of the Cernobbio summit thanking them for developing projects in Ukraine Ukraine's head of state thanked the business leaders for providing energy equipment According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW Kiel), which tracks international aid for Ukraine, Italy has committed a total of 1.7 billion euros ($1.8 billion) in economic and military assistance to Ukraine as of June 2024 Holding the Group of Seven (G7) rotating presidency in 2024, Italy hosted a summit that saw the announcement of a $50 billion loan for Ukraine covered by frozen Russian assets proceeds Italy will also host the 2025 Recovery Conference inviting officias from 77 countries and 500 companies President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev delivered a speech at the session titled “Azerbaijan's role in the new geopolitical environment” at the International Cernobbio Forum themed “Intelligence on the World - I welcome everyone to this prestigious forum President Mattarella highlighted the role of Europe and its significance in the global context let me give the floor to our esteemed first speaker will address his country's position in relation to this scenario I would like to express my gratitude to the organizers for the invitation This is the second time I am participating in the Cernobbio Forum I have very good memories of my being here two years ago where yesterday I had meetings with President Mattarella we once again reconfirmed the strategic character of our bilateral ties Italy and Azerbaijan have worked as strategic partners for many years The corresponding declaration was adopted almost ten years ago This is my third visit to Italy since 2020 and President Mattarella paid a visit to Azerbaijan in 2018 High-level contacts demonstrate that we are very close partners Italy is Azerbaijan’s number one trading partner in the world our trade turnover was close to 16 billion US dollars We see potential for growth not only in the energy sector but also in other sectors Azerbaijan is the Italy’s number one oil supplier and number two gas supplier This is also an important part of our cooperation Energy supplies today clearly demonstrate that national security cannot be separated from energy security The 3,500 km integrated pipeline system from Azerbaijan to Italy today ensures energy security for ten countries We now have ten countries receiving gas from Azerbaijan seven of which are members of the European Union That is probably why the European Commission calls Azerbaijan a pan-European gas supplier and a reliable partner the pipeline starts in Azerbaijan and ends in Italy covers a broad European and Eurasian geography with strong growth potential Today we are in a process of negotiations with at least three European countries with respect to gas supply energy and trade are not the only part of our bilateral agenda We are also actively working on humanitarian issues is a great example of the diversification of our cooperation Five leading Italian universities like Luiss which will be instrumental in our future cooperation The students who are already studying and those who will study there will naturally be connected to Italy Italian culture and the great historical heritage of the Italian people I start my introduction with this important bilateral part because it demonstrates that when relations are built on mutual trust That is how relations must be built between countries which are situated far from each other and belong to different continents Talking about the geopolitical situation - because the topic of my introduction was exactly the role of Azerbaijan in the changing geopolitical environment – first of all I would like to say that the biggest geopolitical change not only in the Caucasus but in the broader region was the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty which really demonstrates that international law can prevail not only when a legal framework exists but also when you have courage and real strength our internationally recognized territories were under Armenian occupation Despite numerous decisions and resolutions by international organizations including four legally binding United Nations Security Council resolutions demanding the immediate withdrawal of Armenian forces from our lands The OSCE created a special group in order to tackle this issue This demonstrates that international law alone is not enough to ensure justice and peace So you must have other factors on the table a large part of our then-occupied territories was liberated during the 44-day Patriotic War as separatists continued to undermine sovereignty of Azerbaijan it was the last full stop when sovereignty of Azerbaijan was totally restored The conflict actually ended as it should have This is a good example for many other countries which struggle for their territorial integrity and sovereignty without success I think Azerbaijan demonstrated that international law for the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union we can achieve peace in the South Caucasus The latest developments in the negotiation track between Azerbaijan and Armenia demonstrate that with almost 80 percent of the peace treaty paragraphs having been approved We have already started not only the border delimitation process We hope that Azerbaijan’s initiative to start peace negotiations will result in a peace treaty that will be important not only for the South Caucasus but for all parts of the world That will be an example of how countries that have fought for 30 years with Azerbaijan suffering from aggression and the total devastation of almost 20 percent of its territory The final point which I want to raise in my introductory comments is that we will host the largest climatic conference It is important that the decision was made by consensus of almost 200 countries We consider it as a sign of respect for Azerbaijan We are actively working in order to build bridges between different actors on the global arena There are mutual claims and accusations about who is more responsible for damaging the planet and who has to pay more and etc While not being a major actor on international arena I think it is achievable for us to build bridges between the Global South and the Global North I also want to underline that through active cooperation with many European countries including ten members of the European Union which are Azerbaijan’s official strategic partners and as the Chair of the Non-Alignment Movement for four years These are the topics I wanted to address during my introduction thank you for giving me the opportunity to address this audience How do you see your country in the context of the discussion about how to come out of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine Because there are some platforms and proposals President Ilham Aliyev: For a hypothetical possibility we were part of the Soviet Union for 70 years we have diversified connections on a people-to-people level and on a political level we consider our relations with Russia and Ukraine to be very good We strongly support Ukraine’s and all countries’ territorial integrity and sovereignty and we will not be a part of the anti-Russian sanctions campaign I know that there are many others who want to be around What I can say now to the audience that we have been approached by Russia Ukraine and European institutions in order to facilitate with the continuation of the gas transit through Ukraine we have put a lot of efforts in order to find a common ground for that because we know that if this transit stops several countries of the European Union will face serious difficulties with the physical access to natural gas we just want to support those countries and also Ukraine because if the transit stops the Ukrainian gas distribution system will be absolutely paralyzed we have certain optimism because in recent context with both countries we think there is ground for a breakthrough it may be premature for me to go into too much detail then we may be able to do other things in order to help put an end to this war both countries are negotiating the continuation of Russian gas transit and Azerbaijani gas supply through Russia and Ukraine to Europe Because I have seen the news these days there has been a decision by your country to declare persona non grata several members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe This is not that much in tune with what you told us about building bridges importance of being diplomatic and reaching out President Ilham Aliyev: Thank you for this question There is a certain misunderstanding with respect to this issue But in order to give you a comprehensive response to when Azerbaijan was adopted to the Council of Europe in 2001 I was a member of the Parliament of Azerbaijan and the first head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe faced a lot of criticism from the Parliamentary Assembly and implemented decisions of the European Court of Human Right and etc what happened this January was crossing the red line As I already said in my introductory comments we restored our sovereignty completely last year separatism was totally eliminated from Azerbaijan’s soil We did not do anything different from what Ukraine is trying to do Ukraine is trying to restore its sovereignty without success We restored our sovereignty without any support the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe decided to deprive our delegation from its voting right These were the sanctions imposed on us because we restored our sovereignty Those who voted for this don’t want to see us in the Council of Europe If they change their decision and restore our right I regret that members of the Italian Parliament voted for that I do not know the names of the people who are on this list of 70+ but there is a chance to improve the situation building bridges is better than responding to each other I sincerely congratulate you on the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War On my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan I congratulate you and all your people on the occasion of the national holiday of the Republic of Poland - the Constitution Day I believe that the ties of friendship and cooperation.. I extend my sincerest congratulations and best wishes to you to all your people on the occasion of the national holiday of the State of Israel – the Independence.. I would like to once again sincerely welcome you to Azerbaijan I am confident that your visit will make a valuable contribution to the development of.. © 2010-2025 Official web-site of the President will finalise the commitments made with the G7 Ministers’ Declaration which was adopted at the Industry and use of Artificial Intelligence systems with a particular focus on the use of AI in the public sector the goal of the meeting is to share good practices in digital public services and to identify commonalities in digital identity approaches on the international scene The Italian Presidency Department for Digital Transformation has coordinated the work of the G7 Digital & Technology Working Group (D&T WG) to advance global cooperation in this area The resulting documents will be published following the Ministerial Meeting in Cernobbio Toolkit on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Public Sector AI is one of the most intriguing and promising fields of innovation and has the potential to dramatically improve our lives need to respect the democratic values of G7 countries protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms the Italian Presidency developed a Toolkit to enable the ethical development and use of AI applications in the public sector The Toolkit is designed to highlight trends policy frameworks and multiple AI enablers within G7 members It aims to share good practices and priority interventions to support the development and use of AI in environments that are secure and trustworthy with a special focus on the implementation within the public sector Reporting Framework and Pilot for the Hiroshima AI Process (HAIP) – International Code of ConductTo ensure continuity with the work of the Japanese G7 Presidency in 2023 the Italian Presidency committed to complement the Hiroshima AI Process Comprehensive Policy Framework (HAIP) by developing a Reporting Framework an integral part of the Hiroshima Process International Code of Conduct for Organizations Developing Advanced AI Systems (HAIP CoC) The Presidency developed a draft Reporting Framework and launched a pilot from July 19 to September 6 with the support of the OECD and the Mapping Exercise of Digital Identity ApproachesDigital identity plays a crucial role in fostering a secure and efficient digital transformation by enabling individuals and businesses to prove their identity and share verified information through digital means The rising demand for digital services across the public and private sector along with concerns about digital exclusion underscore the need for well-designed digital identity systems supported by appropriate governance frameworks While traditional forms of identification and authentication means like physical identity cards passports and passwords remain significant they alone are insufficient to address the complexities of today’s digital landscape The goal of the Report is to identify commonalities in digital identity approaches among G7 members to inform future work within the G7 and other international fora Europe Nicky HarleySeptember 08 The great issues of the world of today and tomorrow have been discussed for 50 years at the Cernobbio Forum Our annual Forum, "Intelligence on the World, Europe, and Italy" is one of the world's most important meetings between top executives It is commonly known as "Cernobbio Forum" because of the venue that traditionally hosts it: Villa d'Este and Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the international business community.  The idea of the Forum was conceived on a train between Verona and Milan during a conversation between Alfredo Ambrosetti and Umberto Colombo.  When Alfredo Ambrosetti (founder of The European House - Ambrosetti) and Beniamino Andreatta (economist) organized in 1975 the first meeting in Villa d'Este on the state of the economy and the society's major trends an economy that was in bad conditions: the Forum was born in such troubled times and in 2024 it celebrates 50 years of history The first edition of the Cernobbio Forum took place in July 1975 in a context of strong political crisis and national elections: only 14 people participated It was a very courageous act to launch the Forum in this context the number of participants following the three-day event at Villa d'Este is fixed at 250 the Forum's programme has always been structured in three macro-areas.  This structure was consolidated in the 1980s.  The Forum's participants must respect the "Chatham House Rule". Everyone - may freely use the information received during the sessions but must make no mention of the source (be it a speaker or a participant).  The absence of the media has always facilitated a frank and honest exchange of views between participants Over 100 national and international newspapers cover the event - including BCC - but they never step inside of the conference room with the exception of selected directors and editors who must follow the Chatham House Rule as well The Forum's 50th anniversary (September 6-7-8 a testament to the continuous relevance of this event despite the most profound transformations of the country but at the same time has been keeping an eye on the future an exclusive audience of national and international participants (CEOs economists) meet for an exchange of views on crucial issues and priorities on the agenda of entrepreneurs and political leaders in compliance with the Chatham House Rule - the discussion remains confidential so as to stimulate a free and open discussion gave an enlightened talk on the future of telecommunications in 1983; at that time she was CEO of ITALTEL Manager and leader of important electronic groups at the time she was among the very few women who participated in the Forum were the only two women participants until 1985 the economy of People’s Republic of China was growing on average 10% every year and western industries had not hesitated to seize the opportunities offered by the creation of a new market The Chinese phenomenon inevitably ended up expanding the agenda of the Cernobbio Forum especially on the day dedicated to the global agenda it has become impossible to discuss economic prospects during meetings without discussing the Chinese growth and Renato Ruggiero spoke about it at the time The discussions around the European topic gave way to a collaboration between the former "Studio Ambrosetti" and Piero Angela a renowned and beloved Italian scientific communicator and journalist with whom we created the tv shows "Quark Economy" (1988) and "Quark Europe" (1992) to explain the meaning and consequences of the arrival of the common currency Piero Angela also participated in the Forum as moderator of the session dedicated to energy and climate change The end of the Soviet Union in 1991 was hailed as the end of the cold war and as a double victory: democracy over communism. In the 1992 edition of the Cernobbio Forum the issue of "Dis-Union of the Soviet Union" was at the centre of the debate and was discussed and commented by Renato Ruggiero (Head of International relations of the FIAT group), Hans Detrich Genscher (the first Minister of Foreign Affairs of the unified Germany) Anatoly Sobchak (Mayor of Petersburg and Putin’s university professor) Leonid Grigorev (Vice-Minister of Economy and Finance Vladimir Shumekko (Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government) Here I learned about the passion for freedom" said Silvio Berlusconi on the day he went into politics (January 26 1994). Just a few months before the public announcement of the establishment of Forza Italia he was at the Forum in Cernobbio as a participant Photographies show him listening carefully to the debates and conversing with other attendees. He had been a frequent visitor to the Forum since the 1980s first as President of Fininvest and then -in 2004 and 2005- as Italy's Prime Minister attended two editions of the Forum in Cernobbio he showed a picture of a smartphone to the audience.  In an interview published in January 2024 on the Italian newspaper La Repubblica recalls an anecdote about Gates: he had arrived to the villa at 2 am from Prague and instead of sitting down to eat after a long journey he asked to work on his presentation and kept all his staff and ours rehearsing until 4 in the morning Michail Gorbačëv attended the Forum in 1997 as Chairman of the International Non-Governmental Foundation for Social and Economic and Political Studies. Penultimate Secretary General of the USSR's Communist Party from 1985 to 1991 he was a protagonist of both the reform processes of the perestroika and the events that followed and led to the dissolution of the USSR and the reunification of Germany. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990 Gorbačëv announced his resignation as President of the USSR in a television message on the evening of December 25 the Soviet crisis had been commented on by Ralf Dahrendorf the Cernobbio Forum has also been attended by the group of  the "Leaders of the Future" (Leader del Futuro) outside the main room: this is evidence of the Forum's orientation towards openness and renewal The Leader of the Future programme was created as a service aimed at the children of entrepreneurs with the aim of preparing them for their future role in the company and to better address changes taking place in society and in the national and global economy The group that organises the Cernobbio Forum is variegated: it includes a small core of people who develop - throughout the year - the programme and select the speakers; other colleagues give their support at different times and for different tasks dealing with all aspects related to such a complex event: logistics etc. In the weeks leading up to the Forum the working group grows in size and may include up to 60 people passion and dedication that the Forum has become the prestigious event that we know today Antonio Di Pietro crossed the gates of Villa D'Este for the 20th Cernobbio Forum he was a deputy prosecutor of the Italian Republic and was the leader of the so-called "Mani Pulite" (clean hands) judicial inquiry on corruption within the entrepreneurial and political circles in Italy He had decided that the Forum would have been the most suitable place to communicate with entrepreneurs in a time of nervousness and turmoil caused by investigations and arrests for corruption Di Pietro said to the Italian entrepreneurs who where attending the event: "Enough with this struggle we have to work together so that what happened does not happen again" 1999 was the year that would have marked the beginning of the Dot.com crisis which hit the first companies to operate mainly or exclusively through the internet and forced many of them to close down and declare bankrupt In a time of rapid development of information and communication technologies the 25th Forum in Cernobbio also addressed the fairly new topics of "e-business" and "e-commerce" The session "Today’s world of tomorrow: global e-business" was attended by Timothy Koogle (first CEO and President of Yahoo!) and Elio Catania (Member of the Board and Executive Committee exactly one year before the second intifada the city of Cernobbio was the setting of an historical event: the then President of the Palestinian Authority at that time Minister for Regional Cooperation of Israel met in Villa d'Este and shook hands - "the first time since the collapse of the Oslo Accords" in a 2016 interview with the Corriere della Sera.  Both Arafat and Peres were awarded the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize - together with Yitzhak Rabin - for their diplomatic commitment towards a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the occupied territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip and to ensure that Palestine is recognised as a State Giovanni Agnelli was an Italian entrepreneur main shareholder and managing director at FIAT He was a regular presence at the Forum from 1981 to 2001. In 1999 during Sunday's the panel dedicated to the Agenda for Italy Here is a excerpt from his speech: "And our country is a country that always when it finds itself in difficult situations if it can measure itself with clear and shared objectives knows how to regain self-confidence and cohesion the second day of the Cernobbio Forum was opened by Romano Prodi President of the European Commission since 1999 then President of the Council of Ministers. Those who attended the Cernobbio Forum between the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st could witness the birth of a European political society talk about the single currency before the introduction of the euro and share views on the priorities for the European countries. Our name change into "The European House - Ambrosetti" - occurred in 2005 - wanted to stress our pride for our European identity and to communicate a concrete European thinking and openness to dialogue with the outside world.  Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1986 and Senator since 2001 Rita Levi-Montalcini participated in 10 editions of the Cernobbio Forum where she gave several enlightening talks on innovation she spoke at the parallel session of the Leaders of the Future where the audience of under 35 professionals gave her a standing ovation «There is no better thing than discovering the world around us and helping those in need» we read in the pages of the Corriere della Sera (September 4 which reports the enthusiasm kindled by her experience as a Jewish researcher during fascism and the story of a life «casually dedicated to science» After the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers of September 11 the issue of combating terrorism was the main topic of public discussions for months and it was also discussed at the Cernobbio Forum in 2002. A panel the Vice President of the European Commission who had been put in charge of a new American agency thanks to the ever-increasing presence of foreign speakers and guests also gained relevance in the eyes of the foreign press 1978 Pulitzer Prize winner and celebrated New York Times columnist described the Forum as "a more authoritative event" than the Davos World Economic Forum.  to comment on the key challenges of those years. In her speech the Queen shared an invitation to dialogue and mutual understanding recognizing that there are more things that unite us than divide us She is known for her attention on human rights and humanitarian causes so much so that in 2009 she was named one of the world’s most powerful women by Forbes for her role as an activist a President of the Republic of Italy gave for the first time a speech at the Cernobbio Forum With a live-streamed speech from the Quirinale in Rome inaugurated a tradition that still lasts today at the Forum which is officially opened by a message from the President.  exactly one week after the conclusion of the 34th Forum the biggest bankruptcy in American history was announced The Lehman Brothers' failure caused a domino effect that brought the US economy to its knees and then had repercussions all over the world generating a global recession that cost tens of billions of dollars and millions of jobs The signs of this "financial catastrophe" were already there: in 2006 Nouriel Roubini (Professor of Economics at the New York University) had warned the International Monetary Fund about an imminent crisis not exempt from guilt - make an additional effort of clarity and sincerity one that lives up to its prestige and is aware of its responsibilities" then Editor-in-Chef of Italian newspaper Il Corriere della Sera at the opening of the last day of the 37th Cernobbio Forum (September 4 the audience gave him a long applause.  The Cernobbio Forum has hosted over 25 Nobel Prizes in economics They were asked by the business community about their vision of the world and conflict scenarios and prospects for peace.  The number of women at the Cernobbio Forum has been increasing gradually over the years women have conquered space and microphones bringing their opinions and experiences on national and international topics Our commitment towards variety and inclusiveness of participants is one of the founding principles of the Forum and we also support it through our Women’s Empowerment Observatory created in 2021 during the G20's Italian Presidency Invited to the 41st Cernobbio Forum Emmanuel Macron took part in the panel "Competitiveness and growth of Europe". At that time Industry and Digital of the 2nd Valls Government chosen by President Hollande to replace Arnaud Montebourg - whose anti-austerity positions had created divisions within the French executive. Less than a year later Macron founded the centrist political movement En marche with which he independently ran for the 2017 presidential election winning in the first round with 24.01% of the votes The Peres Heritage Initiative is a social award launched at the 43rd edition of the Forum in Cernobbio (September 2017) to remember the legacy of Shimon Peres who participated in 24 editions of the event To pass on his legacy of technological innovation and pursuit of peace to future generations the Peres Heritage Initiative annually awards three young innovators who have launched research or business projects The most important developments in Medicine Artificial Intelligence and Robotics have significant impacts on society and economy; they can generate new business ideas at the Cernobbio Forum we explored the role of technology with Hiroshi Ishiguro then Visiting Director of the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory (Osaka University) and a world expert in humanoid robotics Ishiguro pursues the goal of making an android similar to a living human being and study how the external appearance - more than the cognitive aspects - influences our modes of interaction The humanoid "5 Geminoid" - the first humanoid participant in the history of the Forum - endowed with the likeness of its own author accompanied him to Villa d'Este to demonstrate the results achieved during the experimentations Mario Monti first attended the Cernobbio Forum in 1980 and has seated on the speakers' stage for 43 editions This tradition has followed the evolution of his career between the academy and the roles he took on in Europe and in Italian politics. The motivation for such a regular presence - he says - is the possibility of having a free exchange of ideas between people with different views and ideals but also to analyse existing issues and identify concrete solutions a feature that makes it a "highly competitive" event participated several times in the Cernobbio Forum political and social dynamics of the United States of America attended annually by a delegation of American political representatives.  In 2008, he stated: "Presidents and candidates are tasked with leading and articulating their vision of America’s role in the world The world is more dangerous than it has been since the end of the Cold War That’s why I think the president should lead and the presidential candidates should lead and talk about this I wish there was more talk about it".  a year before his death: when he finished his speech and thanked the audience he received a standing ovation from the audience the Cernobbio Forum went for the first time to space Speaking live from the International Space Station he said: "I want to be optimistic; this is a moment of great change and every change brings opportunities [...] ESA’s internal agencies and international partners want to push for new exploration [...] the only way to realise great projects is international cooperation [...] we need commitment the pandemic that shook the world and entered the collective memory for all those who lived it in person. After months of deserted streets in September the most severe restrictions were lifted allowing us to hold the Cernobbio Forum at Villa d'Este Due to travel restrictions and the need of reducing the number of participants the Forum was held for the first time in a "phygital" mode through video conferencing and holograms that simulated the presence of the speakers in the room. The image of 23 leaders (including Hillary Clinton and Microsoft president Brad Smith) was virtually reproduced thanks to Cisco technology The pandemic prevented many to participate in the Cernobbio Forum and gave way to a new tradition: the remote hubs. In 2020 9 hubs were selected to offer to an exclusive audience the opportunity to watch the live-streamed sessions at Villa d'Este USA and Singapore - thanks to the support of partners.  we have confirmed the partnership with Italy's Ministry of Foreign and International Cooperation and the ICE Agency to offer all the diplomatic network and offices of the ICE Agency in the world the opportunity to follow the event European and Italian trends and scenarios. At the same time China will host a live streaming hub in Shanghai that will also develop local offline content This is possible thanks to the contribution of Generali the Beijing Club for International Dialogue there will be two physical and digital hubs: in Puglia thanks to Banca Popolare di Puglia e Basilicata and Exprivia; throughout Italy the state-owned insurance-financial group which will open the Forum to Italian SMEs The 2022 national electoral debate at the Cernobbio Forum the Forum hosted the first and only public debate among the main candidates of the national elections Editor-in-Chief of the Italan newspaper Corriere della Sera The session was joined by: Carlo Calenda National Secretary of Azione; Giuseppe Conte 5 Stars Movement (videoconference); Enrico Letta National Secretary of the Democratic Party; Giorgia Meloni Co-founder and President of Fratelli d'Italia; Matteo Salvini Among the topics discussed: sanctions on Russia for the aggression on Ukraine 6 months after the Russian invasion of Ukraine the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy join remotely the Cernobbio Forum for a heartfelt appeal to the business community and the media "I am grateful for this opportunity to address a message to you right now when we are all going through a difficult time in this war [...] All support for Ukraine with weapons Russia does not understand the words of peace [...] I thank you for the strength of Italian words of support for the support to our people who have found refuge on your land The session "Today the World of Tomorrow - Scientific and Technological Developments" brought various representatives of the scientific community to the Forum in Cernobbio the have discussed on current and future scientific and technological developments in a range of fields and social artificial intelligence. The speakers have also been asked to give their views on the resulting impacts on business and society in terms of risks and opportunities this session had a focus on the Covid-19 pandemic and in particular on the role of science and scientific collaboration and the importance of open data access in helping to understand the global coronavirus phenomenon and how pandemics work.  One of the key values of the Cernobbio Forum is freedom of expression The sessions are held behind closed doors to ensure a frank and honest discussion among the attendees The presence of politics is a constant feature of the Forum: it is an opportunity for politicians to meet representatives from different schools of thought and talk openly with them about the most crucial issues The secrets of the success of the Cernobbio Forum are mainly a meticulous attention to detail and the search for the most qualified and prestigious speakers in the world experts on the priority topics of the moment Although the structure of the event has not changed much from the 1980s while respecting guiding principles and traditions.  attended every year by the top managers of national and multinational groups and companies requires hard work that begins just a few hours after the conclusion of the previous edition. The process starts with the so-called "post-mortem meeting" which carefully analyses every aspect of the event and reviews feedback from participants to make all the necessary improvements to ensure to organise an event that lives up to our high standards invitations and logistical preparations follow as always on the first weekend of September The Cernobbio Forum reflects TEHA’s claim because of its focus on current and future trends related to Italy we present studies carried out in collaboration with business communities and business partners to explore frontier topics which covered topics such as artificial intelligence attraction of foreign investments in the pharmaceutical sector in addition to providing a scenario and development prospects provides action and policy proposals aimed at decision-makers and institutions The strategic study ‘The evaluation of the impacts of the TEHA Forum in Cernobbio for the local territory and the country-system’ quantified the socio-economic value of the organisation of the Forum at a local level - for the areas of Cernobbio and Como - and at a national level the 2023 edition generated an overall economic impact of almost 4 million euro The full data will be published during the 50th Forum which will take place in Cernobbio on September 6-7-8 more than 200 national and international hubs connected to remotely attend the event also thanks to the support of Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) which offered diplomatic delegations and ICE offices abroad the opportunity to follow the sessions which live-streamed the event and also engaged the local audience with parallel sessions.  President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih Minister of Investment of the Kingdom “Intelligence on the World Europe and Italy” and “Today's and tomorrow's scenario for competitive strategies” organized by the European House - Ambrosetti think tank has kicked off in Cernobbio President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the Forum as a chief guest at the international forum at the invitation of the Italian President Sergio Mattarella President of the Council of Ministers of Italy Mario Draghi and the European House - Ambrosetti think tank The head of state made a speech on “The role of Azerbaijan for Energy Security” at the plenary session of the forum moderator of the session Monica Maggioni said: because we had to speak about war in and out of Europe But today what we will try to do together is to have a wider look and try to figure out what is going on in the rest of the world and how this war in turmoil can find a way out One of the top issues these days is obviously about energy security and it is a pleasure for me who will come into the room to give us a speech just about energy and security I would like to express gratitude to the European House – Ambrosetti for inviting me to participate in this important event It is a great pleasure to be in this beautiful place and to enjoy your company I was here on a state visit in 2020 when we signed a strategic document on partnership between Italy and Azerbaijan Prime Minister and we discussed a broad range of issues of close strategic partnership cooperation between our countries I would like to add that President Mattarella four years ago paid an official visit to Azerbaijan this shows that our political dialogue is very active and we add to bilateral agenda new very important items we talked yesterday not only about energy issues and economic development in the building of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Rome which marked the beginning of creation of an Italian-Azerbaijani University ADA University of Azerbaijan is a partner to five leading Italian universities – Luiss Guido Carli University Bologna University and Sapienza University of Rome the main subject of discussions was energy policy To talk about Azerbaijan’s role for energy security I need to draw your attention to some historical moments Our energy strategy had been divided into stages just three years after restoration of our independence in 1994 we were the first country which invited major energy companies of the world to work in the Caspian Sea we became an exporter of oil to European market primarily to Italy and Azerbaijan is number one oil supplier to Italy for many years so we led the process of changing the energy map of Eurasia one to the Mediterranean port of Turkiye and another to the Black Sea port of Georgia thus diversifying the energy supplies to the Black Sea market and the world market The second stage of our energy strategy was development of huge gas fields According to the information about the proven reserves of Azerbaijan they are equal to 2,6 trillion cubic meters and Azerbaijan is a reliable supplier to the neighboring market taking into account the existing potential and our plans of investments in gas infrastructure we needed to build a major gas supply pipeline which was called by us the Southern Gas Corridor The Southern Gas Corridor is an integrated pipeline system consisting of three pipelines – the South Caucasus pipeline Trans-Anatolian (TANAP) and Trans-Adriatic (TAP) This is a 3,500 kilometer very complicated technical infrastructure It partly goes to cross high mountains and partly goes on the seabed Azerbaijan became a supplier of natural gas to three European countries 13,5 billion cubic meters of gas have been supplied to Europe for one and a half year we plan to increase the volume and we project to supply the Italian market with close to 10 billion cubic meters Our total export will be more than 22 billion cubic meters and with the great potential to grow President of the European Commission and myself signed a Memorandum of Understanding on strategic partnership in the energy field between the European Commission and Azerbaijan This is a very important step towards further development of our energy resources and based on that to double our energy – natural gas export to Europe But for that we need to undertake important steps – political decisions because the capacity of the Southern Gas Corridor in different segments is different TANAP has capacity of 16 billion cubic meters We plan to expand it up to 32 billion cubic meters and TAP has a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters and it is almost full but that also must be done by other members of our team now in Europe we see that after the Russian-Ukrainian war the issue of natural gas became one of the most important on Europeans’ agenda and there are different projects of interconnectors which is called the Ionic-Adriatic pipeline which will bring Azerbaijani gas to three Balkan countries I can tell you than after the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war we got official requests from more than 10 countries with respect to the increase of our supply or starting our supply including those countries which already get our gas like Turkiye in order to be able to satisfy the growing demand need to have a very close cooperation and coordination we have already officially launched the dialogue between the EU and Azerbaijan on energy And this brings us to the third stage of Azerbaijan’s energy strategy which is the investments in renewable sources of energy as you can understand with those figures which I brought to your attention we are pretty comfortable with natural gas and with oil and our power stations were both on natural gas and on fuel and also on hydro recourses especially taking into account a huge potential And there have been already many evaluations of the potential of renewable energy in Azerbaijan only in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea the proven potential is 157 gigawatt of energy which we liberated during the Patriotic War of 2020 in Karabakh and Zangazur wind and hydro energy is more than 10 gigawatts and we are already in the process of development of this huge potential I can tell you than three leading energy companies one from the UAE and one from the United Kingdom already are investing and planning to invest in three renewable power stations of a total capacity of more than 700 megawatts So that will save us additional gas for export and that will increase our export potential Today we are talking about how to bring our electric energy to Europe through the existing line Bulgaria and further to Europe or through the new line which has a great potential also for alternative energy supply route these are basically the three stages of our energy development but on a broader market and we are ready to do all what we can in order to satisfy the growing needs of our partners It is clear that energy security is national security and after the war in Ukraine started thank you for your attention and once again thank you for inviting me to attend this important event because actually it is exactly in the middle of the issue here because we are discussing countries all over Europe and the energy situation is there key there is a regional issue out there and I couldn’t just ask myself how difficult should it be being in the region having historic ties to Russia I am trying to figure out what is your own politics out there that is our geography and we live in this geography forever and neither we nor our neighbors can change the geography I think the success of our country in political development in strengthening of independence – we celebrated last year the 30th anniversary of our independence – demonstrate that it is possible to build normal relations with neighbors and at the same time with big neighbors independence and your independent political course And with respect to relations with our neighbors I can say that we always try to find areas of cooperation and those areas which were problematic or where we had a different approach We never adjusted ourselves to a policy of our big neighbors decisions and resolutions of international organizations and common sense Azerbaijan now is stable from political point of view We invested a lot in being independent from point of view of economic activity our people live free and we want to live free forever -It is so important what you are saying and you know I was listening why you were mentioning the new ties in the region and not just in the region with Italy about culture or education and all those ties that are connected to energy and to the energy exchange In the next panel we will be discussing the new global order it is difficult to predict what will be the new global order but it is clear that the world will never be as it was before February this year The world has changed and how this change will evaluate It will depend on how long the war in Ukraine continues It will depend on what will be the end of that war what will be the balance of forces in the world and the most important as a country which is relatively newly independent is to protect us from external problems and external challenges Because internally our country is well integrated society is mobilized and there is a unity in what we are planning to do and how to develop the country for us the most important is what will be the implication of a new global order to our region what will be the position of big regional countries how we will succeed in our plans to achieve peace with Armenia and what will be the future of our children and new generations we are making our steps with respect to our strategy we cannot ignore the changing world and the changing rules of the game when norms of international law are absolutely and totally destroyed and in our case they were destroyed when Armenia occupied us and we were actively appealing to the international community to draw attention for that injustice when our lands were under occupation and the Security Council resolutions of the United Nations for 27 years were not implemented we see violation of international law in many other areas and we see that countries what will be the new function of international institutions whether the United Nations will continue like it is or it will be reformed and some other organization will emerge And it depends on those who have responsibility for the world Who have power to promote the ideas and integrated opinion of decision makers this is going to be one of the key issues for the next decades The European House - Ambrosetti has been nominated in the category "Best Private Think Tanks" as the 1st Think Tank in Italy and among the most respected independent institutions in the world among 11,175 nominees in the latest edition of the "Global Go To Think Tanks Report" of the University of Pennsylvania The European House - Ambrosetti has been recognized by Top Employers Institute as one of the 131 “Top Employer” companies in Italy the Forum will present many analyses and researches that we have carried out The highly-select audience is comprised of 200 top managers from Italy and abroad with precedence given to members of the prestigious Ambrosetti Club The Forum is an annual event of international scope and prestige top representatives of European institutions managers and experts from around the world have been meeting every year since 1975 to discuss current issues of major impact for the world economy and society as a whole President Ilham Aliyev then responded to questions from international media outlets what are the five points you have mentioned in relation to Armenia the recognition of the territorial integrity of both countries; second withdrawal of any territorial claims to each other; third non-use of force or the threat of using force; fourth These are the five basic principles which Azerbaijan proposed to Armenia and the Armenian prime minister has accepted them This was confirmed again during our meeting in Brussels two days ago Our foreign ministers within one month will start practical negotiations on the text of the agreement based on these five principles -Is it possible to transport more gas from Azerbaijan to Italy the figure will be approximately 10 billion cubic meters In comparison with last year it is much more we need to increase the capacity of TAP – from 10 billion to 20 billion cubic meters It should be noted that our share in TAP is only 20 percent Other shareholders should also agree and plan a joint investment project This should be done soon because we have reached an agreement with the European Commission to double gas exports from Azerbaijan to the European Union by 2027 – up to 20 billion cubic meters This will not be possible without expansion of TAP So we have to do this first and then start negotiations on contracts -Have the discussions on the expansion of TAP started we have already started practical negotiations I said at the conference that Italy is our main partner We started exporting a year and a half ago A total of 13.5 billion cubic meters of gas have been transported of which 11.7 billion cubic meters have been exported to Italy Organizer: The Cernobbio agreement on doubling gas volumes ShareSaveLifestyleTravelVilla d'Este On Lake Como: Luxury DefinedByEverett Potter In a world where the term “luxury” is bandied about, it’s almost ceased to have any true meaning. I said “almost,” because there are still a handful of hotels where the term is still applicable. Villa d’Este is one of those properties dramatically set on the southwestern shore of Lake Como in Cernobbio This remarkably youthful dowager has superb Renaissance architecture and a staff that rivals the finest of any other hotel in the world What I find remarkable about Villa d’Este is that its history is deep and authentic It was built in the 16th century by Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio in 1568 as his own residence back in the days when the church not only had all of the power but all of the money as well It changed private hands several times over the centuries It’s an apt title for a place where I felt like a guest at a private villa with a staff that anticipates your every need I found it full of guests seeking old-world glamour knowing they won’t be bothered but assured that they will be artfully cared for Villa d’Este may have the feel of old money but not all the money at Villa d’Este is old Recent guests include Bruce Springsteen and Robert DeNiro and it’s not uncommon to spot the lake’s most famous residents the hallways festooned with portraits and sculptures The spacious guestrooms and their tall windows are edged with silk brocade drapes and have extraordinary lakeside views that also take in the 25 acres of gardens that Villa D’Este is set on is complemented by acres of manicured gardens filled with azalea Start by strolling the pebbled paths through the gardens in the morning a tad sleepy and filled with shops and glimmers of Roman ruins as well as one of the country’s most impressive cathedrals Its residents are some of the most fashionably dressed in all of Italy But I also love the smaller towns on the lake with its steep medieval stairs and the lovely garden of Villa Monastero Leisure is the major pursuit at Villa D’Este There is a floating swimming pool in Lake Como surrounded by deck chairs that always seem to be occupied with readers and avid sunbathers these same guests can be found in elegant dress on the terrace which overlooks the lake and is serviced by tuxedoed waiters bearing aperitivos while a pianist plays softly in the background This nightly social gathering is de rigeur with the wonderful Veranda restaurant on the premises I donned the requisite jacket and tie to sit in a regal blue and yellow room that overlooks the lake dining on a classic Veal Milanese while enjoying what are arguably the best views of the water I looked forward to a daily in-room breakfast with a lake view the leisurely consumption of a novel and the chance to enjoy a lifestyle redolent of the 19th century That pretty much defines “luxury” in my book It started with trepidation but within a week the morning ride on FulGaz has become something of a routine Here are a few quick thoughts about the experience after today’s 25km journey from Cernobbio to Cadenabbia in Italy (while riding in Sydney) Instructions were turned on and FulGaz’s ‘coach’ offered suggestions on what to concentrate on: cadence and the kind of stuff you’d expect from the virtual cycling world in 2020 it was just a chance to get used to the system to understand the navigation and settings – to experience what FulGaz is all about Day one: set up Day two: quick spin around a lake in Bavaria to get used to the FulGaz feel Day three: the first recommended ride, 40-odd kilometres in Ethiopia with Tsgabu Grmay and his crew Day four: took a rest and concentrated on another of my #IsolationExercise challenges a stair running agenda that I set myself a few days earlier* I’m up to day seven now and have already spent around 10 hours on the smart trainer with a few hundred virtual kilometres covered At least, with @FulGazApp I can ride 40km in Ethiopia before starting work in my Sydney home office. https://t.co/deec7vbHl3 pic.twitter.com/xKXVC0xSXp — Rob Arnold (@robridemedia) April 7, 2020 Our house isn’t large and there are four of us here – two adults and our two kids We’re doing our best to adhere to the self-isolation policy that has rapidly become part of life It’s been two weeks since we left our suburb a fortnight (so far) with home schooling and it seems logical to minimise any risks – of infection or anything that could potentially put additional pressure on the health system I dearly want to ride my bike and do it in a way that I’ve enjoyed cycling all my life: outdoors with the wind on my face we’ve decided to transform the living room into one ‘training centre’ – or Upstairs there’s our original indoor cycling set-up we’re lucky: two smart trainers between four people: an original Wahoo Kickr upstairs with a 10-speed cassette for the kids’ bikes and a Tacx Neo 2 Smart downstairs with an 11-speed cassette Our 14-year-old has been riding his own bike upstairs but began using my bike on the downstairs set-up only with the saddle dropped a couple of centimetres The nine-year-old has his MTB on the Kickr and we’re going to get him a new chain for his (eight-speed) road bike so he can use that on the 10-speed arrangement And my wife has started ‘borrowing’ my bike to squeeze in a daily ride I’ve been in this cycling game – as a profession – for almost 30 years so it makes sense that there’s a bit of equipment like this at my disposal the NBN finally came to our suburb and – get this – the connection actually improved this new approach to cycling has been made possible by a range of contributing factors: self-isolation the option to login and ride in a ‘virtual’ setting are already so used to seeing each other ride that those earlier distractions – the questions about where or how far or what riding platform – are no longer see the vision and absorb the data… and walk away without so much as a comment “That’s near where we stayed back in 2008 when we had a family holiday.” finds ‘Cernobbio to Cadenabbia’ on the ride menu and adds it to her FulGaz ‘favourites’ list. The kids are usually a little more analytical or That’s a kind appraisal. It can get more scathing from the child ‘coaches’ (making me think I should tune in to Bernard a little more) Mr 14 waltzes by while the flywheel is still spinning and he knows his average watts per kilo – for rides that last a lot longer than what I’ve been doing – is more impressive than mine I write off his commentary as teenage ego and don’t let it bother me too much not even when he walks off shaking his head before turning back and announcing I’m not trying to improve my ‘Toughness Score’ (171 today I’m not doing this to lose weight or to add numbers to my (private) Strava account I don’t even care too much about the data even though it’s there for me to study I can look back over it and chart my progress but I can already feel an improvement in fitness then at least I can do so with some scenery (on FulGaz) or some company (on Zwift) or even some rivalry (on a range of other virtual riding platforms)… but often it’s just about the act of pedalling This morning I had a visual treat on the screen as I rode a 25km section of the eastern shore of Lake Como in the Lombardy region of Italy I’d see villas and vistas (or buses and trucks) I’d see the glow of the Neo turn from blue to purple when the wattage got up near 200 it’d turn slightly more red as the wattage numbers grew Every effort is made by these virtual training platforms to keep you engaged and interested They offer instruction and motivation and the kinds of things that the fit enthusiastic leader of a spin class might yell at me (if I just ignore all the stimulation and data I find that the mix of rhythm and effort can be quite meditative And I play little games throughout the ride… ‘I’ll keep my eyes shut until the end of the next song.’ big gear for the next minute.’ Etcetera.Sometimes I study the numbers on the right of screen: gradient distance covered and distance to go… but I don’t have the heart rate straps (so BPM remains ‘0’ even though I know my ticker is still beating) Sometimes I’m looking to the left of screen where I can see current wattage Sometimes I stare at my progress along the graphic of the profile of the selected ride that sits at the top of the screen I now trust FulGaz enough to know that I can push that little bit harder near the top and even risk a pre-emptive gear change so that I’m ready for the descent Sometimes it’s the real-world image dominating the screen that captures my attention but sometimes the connection drops out or my mind wanders and I just zone out and listen to the music and hope that the next song on shuffle keeps me singing in my head This morning it was a fun start as the image darted through the laneways of a town near Como not far from where the press centre of Il Lombardia is usually located There were streets I recognised and roads I’ve ridden years ago There was an annoying bus ahead of me for the first six kilometres… but the bloke who filmed the ride one bright sunny day in Italy eventually found a way around it – up on the footpath while the bus collected passengers – to some clear road ahead without too much traffic The fence on the right of the screen often blocked the true splendour of the view but occasionally it would open up to reveal the beautiful blue of the lake or offer glimpses of the Italy we know so well from tourist brochures and postcards There were a couple of other riders to follow for some of the 25km and regular reminders that traffic can be a curse in this part of the world… even though it doesn’t slow the progression of what’s seen on the screen There was a moment towards the end of the ride when it seemed a bus had squished an oncoming car into the stone wall on the other side of the road but the blockage cleared and I kept riding You notice the little things and don’t need to be glued to the data on the approach to Brienno near the halfway mark onto a new stretch of road that leads down to the lake rather than opting for the ugly tunnel on the well-used SS340 There are undulations but never a brutal gradient You get enough climbing to feel like you’ve had a workout but not so much that you blank out and miss all the fun distractions like the lady who is taking a selfie on the footpath oblivious to the fact that she’ll be seen by thousands of cyclists in the virtual world in months to come… there is a lot to take in and talk about even before I get into the details of the climbs or the effort required The indoor arrangement reflects many of the things that make cycling beautiful It offers an opportunity for exercise and meditation and exploration and contemplation it gets my day off to a good start with a hint of escapism *Note: the ‘stair challenge’ began at the start of the month and it involves doing 100 laps (up and down) of a 16-step staircase in our house… each day The intention is to (roughly) climb the equivalent of the stairwell of the Empire State Building each day of this bloody lockdown I’m pacing myself: 10 sets of 10 ascents and descents – not 100 flights of stairs all at once  The 50-square-metre space, located on the lakeside at Via Regina 83, could not be better suited to provide Simon Porte Jacquemus' brand timeless charm of one of the most iconic fashion houses in the world The Défilé Croisiére 2025/26 promises to be an unforgettable experience travel and the dream that only Chanel can give Cernobbio is transformed into a powerful and suspended setting Between the calm waters of the lake and the elegant curves of the historic villas a visual short circuit takes shape: rhinoceroses elephants and monumental flamingos appear in the most unexpected places triggering questions rather than offering answers It is the universe of Stefano Bombardieri that expands in the Larian city with the exhibition The Rhino's Journey and the Time Paradox A vision that moves between the real and the unlikely orchestrated by the curatorship of Anna Lisa Ghirardi and made possible by a joint project between the Municipality of Cernobbio and Galleria GALP The works impose themselves with a silent but destabilizing presence animals in plastic poses and apparent balance which however seem on the verge of shattering time itself scattered along via Regina and the lakeside where the urban landscape merges with a hyper-realistic and symbolically charged imagery It is an art that dialogues with the environment The credit for this vision also goes to GALP a gallery with a long history of experimentation and openness which has chosen to bring its energy to Cernobbio in 2024 It is not just an exhibition: it is a statement have built an almost personal relationship with Bombardieri's work over the years telling anecdotes of daily coexistence with one of his most iconic sculptures A visceral bond that today translates into an exhibition capable of giving substance to a vision: art as a presence The journey of the rhinoceros is a path that crosses eras which from Fellini's dreams is loaded with new interpretations: a strong but vulnerable creature a sacred and fragile figure at the same time always balanced between disappearance and survival Bombardieri places it in suspended scenarios The gallery hosts a more intimate core of works where the scale is reduced but not the power Here the journey is more subtle: sculptures and videos insinuate themselves into perception The catalogue that accompanies the exhibition will be presented in the summer with a series of shots that document the dialogue between the works and the city another piece in a story that is built through stratifications The Municipality of Cernobbio accepts the challenge and lets itself be crossed its hidden corners lend themselves perfectly to this friction between aesthetics and thought Bombardieri's installations impose a suspension almost a small revolt against the anxiety of linear time Notizie.it is a newspaper registered with the Court of Milan n.68 on 01/03/2018 Impara come
