A trip to Piedmont under the spotlight of Rai Due for the Panthers of Prosecco DOC Imoco Conegliano
who after the positive debut in Champions on Thursday faced today one of the “bigs” of the championship
Coach Santarelli reverts to his “superstar” sextet with Wolosz-Haak
host Reale Mutua Fenera takes the court in a sold-out palasport with VanAalen diagonally with former Gicquel
Skinner with the other former Omoruyi slappers
The start of the Panthers’ match as it often happens in the last period is devastating for Chieri
with the Panthers immediately attacking the match thanks to a super hitting turn by Isabelle Haak
The defense-monstrosities of De Gennaro and Gabi allow captain Wolosz to sort valuable balls for Zhu (first set pimped up by the Chinese with 5 points) and the Swede herself and it’s 1-6
Cristina Chirichella also works well first in attack
Haak does the rest (6 points in the set) and Prosecco DOC Imoco keeps the lead (5-12)
The hosts struggle in attack against the overwhelming power of the Gialloblù wall-defense and the lead takes important proportions: 5-15
Show of strength by the Italian champions who make no mistakes and close the set easily 16-25 with the final blow by Fahr 3 points
Conegliano comes out better from the starting blocks with the winning shots of a Zhu now perfectly cast in the role of Pantera
3-7 and immediate time out by coach Bregoli
Wolosz also puts on a show with a great first point
The hosts are more consistent than in the first set
even Olympian Loveth Omoruyi begins to make her presence felt and with Skinner and Gicquel she begins to put her breath on the Panthers’ necks (12-14)
then De Gennaro defends and Zhu breaks through the wall (12-16)
Gicquel (4 points in the set) attacks to tie (17-17) and after a quiet first set now it’s battle
Skinner (6 points in the set) operates the overtake (22-21) for the first lead of the Piedmontese in the match
the Prosecco DOC Imoco compacts and goes back ahead
this time it is Sarah Fahr with a great wall to give the +2 (21-23)
In the final sprint decide Gabi (5 in the set)
“no look” attack (22-24) and Fahr who
is in charge of closing the second set (23-25) as well
Chieri confirms to have raised the level and starts at full speed (9-6) also taking advantage of some yellow-blue blunders
Skinner and former Omoruyi hurt with their attacks
Gray walls for the 10-7 that triggers the red alert
Gicquel walls /5 points in the set) and Reale Mutua flies to +6 (13-7)
but it seems that Chieri now controls operations
but Skinner is charging and keeps hitting (18-12)
a still very ready Adiwge seals two points for -4 (20-16)
Despite 24-20 the Panthers try until the end
Zakchaiou from the center takes the partial 25-23
it is the second set of the season lost by the Panthers
In the fourth set Prosecco DOC Imoco starts well
but Chieri believes and keeps the Panthers on the rope proving to be a top team
then Cirichella (4 blocks and 11 points on the scoreboard
great performance for Cristina) imitates her (12-14)
They fight ball on ball with the two teams giving everything
Gicquel (20 points in the match) is effective (14-15)
With character Reale Mutua goes back ahead thanks to Gray and Gicquel (17-16)
Here comes the “spurt” of coach Santarelli’s team that pushes hard (21-17) with Haak’s sasses (20 points
3 walls at the end) who has found her rhythm together with the team after a couple of complicated sets
game-set and match (8th win out of 8 league matches) for the 21-25 that sanctions Prosecco DOC Imoco’s 3-1 win on Chieri’s court

college students around the nation were forced to quickly change gears
debate whether to travel home and adjust to remote learning
This unexpected and turbulent time was difficult for many students
but international students were often met with even more challenges and considerable roadblocks
As the campus prepares for a more typical fall semester
Kamada is finding new strength from her experiences – and a desire to help fellow international students
Kamada is a sophomore at CU Boulder studying aerospace engineering with minors in computer science and space
three years ago when her father’s job relocated
Kamada began her college experience at CU in fall 2019
she was living with a host family in South Boulder and really enjoyed her first semester
Kamada made friends and built connections with other students through her involvement in the CU marching band
Kamada had been hearing inklings about the coronavirus from her parents and how it was impacting Asia
but she did not expect it to impact the U.S
As cases spiked and the situation became more pressing
Kamada became worried about the lack of a mask-wearing culture in the U.S
and about the possibility of discrimination
Kamada had heard stories of Asians and Asian Americans being the targets of racism and xenophobia
and she did not want to increase the risk of experiencing that herself
I know Colorado is a really safe place in general
“I couldn’t expect how people would react when they saw me.”
Kamada did not leave her Boulder home for any reason other than to get groceries every once in a while
but as the COVID-19 situation escalated in the States
Kamada faced additional concerns about what catching COVID-19 would mean for her
She worried about having proper access to medical help
“It just felt like there was just not enough support to make me feel comfortable enough to live through this pandemic in the U.S.,” she said
government sent mixed messages regarding student visa regulations
which historically required international students to enroll in in-person classes to maintain their visa status
Although this policy was eventually relaxed to allow international students to attend classes virtually
the uncertainty caused significant stress for Kamada and international students across the nation
This stress was further exacerbated by border closures and international flight cancelations
Kamada officially decided to take all her fall classes from Japan -- on a 16-hour time difference
Although Kamada reached out to her professors and was offered the ability to watch lectures asynchronously on her own schedule
she knew it would be difficult to keep up without a fixed schedule
Kamada struggled at times with her exhausting schedule
She also struggled to keep in touch with her friends
“I was virtually cut off from all my friends,” Kamada said
“That made me feel isolated and like no one could help me
but it was all happening because of my decision.”
Looking back, Kamada credits this situation for leading her to join the college’s International Student Advisory Board
Kamada has been able to connect with students who fully understand the extent of what she went through and who can relate to the difficulties that come with being an international student
you’re representing your family,’” Kamada said
The difficulties Kamada endured during the fall 2020 semester provided her with hindsight on various topics and ideas of how the university can better support international students going forward. She said she wished she had reached out to Counseling and Psychiatric Services at CU for support but felt that others needed the help more
Kamada finished the semester without any significant grade drops
She said that her time feeling isolated in Japan made her realize that she wants to be more active in reaching out to make connections with other people
She also gained new communication and time-management skills
Kamada said she feels that her current self is better than it would have been had she stayed in Boulder
and she plans to use her experience as a strength going forward
“Everything that was happening was total hell
but I feel really proud of myself,” she said
but that means you’ve got a story to tell and an experience like no one else
and that’s the thing that’s really awesome.”

• Asseco Resovia Rzeszow claim club’s first continental trophy and Poland’s first men’s CEV Cup gold
• Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri’76 top 2023 Challenge Cup victory with a 2024 CEV Cup trophy
Poland’s Asseco Resovia Rzeszow wrote history on Tuesday by claiming the club’s first continental trophy after winning the men’s CEV Volleyball Cup final. On Wednesday, Italy’s Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri’76 followed suit in the women’s edition, picking up their first CEV Cup crown after their 2023 triumph in the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup tournament.
Asseco Resovia Rzeszow mastered two straight-set victories over Germany’s SVG Lueneburg in the home-and-away final of the CEV Cup to celebrate the first continental trophy in the club’s history. It was, in fact, the first time a Polish team has triumphed in Europe’s second strongest men’s club competition.
With 3,200 spectators witnessing the first match on 12 March in Germany, the Polish squad cruised to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-21) win. Their outside hitter from the USA, Torey Defalco, put away a match-high 16 points, including a fantastic five aces towards the victory, while middle blocker Jakub Kochanowski added 11 points, including an impressive six kill blocks.
In the return game in Rzeszow a week later, in front of 4,300 fans, Asseco Resovia produced another 3-0 (27-25, 25-18, 25-22) sweep to take the title. This time, opposite from France, Stephen Boyer, led the way with 14 points, despite only playing in the first two sets of the match, and earned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

“This victory is valuable for our team,” said Defalco. “This season we had big problems with self-confidence and finding the right rhythm of play. It wasn’t easy in the CEV Cup either, because we had matches in which our play was a rollercoaster. But in the end, winning this trophy will give us a lot of confidence. We know that with good teamwork we can play really good volleyball.”
After finishing third in their CEV Champions League pool, Asseco Resovia advanced to the CEV Cup quarterfinals, where they knocked out Polish compatriots Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie in a deciding golden set. Then they achieved two semifinal wins over Türkiye’s Fenerbahce PRL Istanbul, 3-1 at home and 3-0 away, before taking on SVG Lueneburg in the final showdown.

Last year’s winners of the CEV Challenge Cup, Italy’s Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri’76, did one better this year and triumphed as CEV Cup winners to add a second continental trophy to the club’s showcase. They earned the crown after two wins over Switzerland’s Viteos Neuchatel in the final home-and-away series.
The squad from Chieri delivered a straight-set victory in the first match on the road in front of 2,000 spectators in Switzerland on 13 March. With opposite from Belgium, Kaja Grobelna, leading the way with 17 points, the Italian side mastered a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 26-24) sweep.
Welcoming Viteos Neuchatel to Turin for the second game on 20 March (pictured in the main photo; credits: cev.eu), Reale Mutua Fenera pleased a home crowd of almost 4,000 fans on the stands with a 3-1 (25-9, 25-20, 20-25, 25-13) win to celebrate the club’s biggest success in history. Grobelna was honoured as the MVP. She was the best scorer of the match with 16 points, including three aces.

“There are many emotions in the heart and mind,” Grobelna said. “The road to get here was long and we all made it together. Everyone gave their all and we made this dream come true together. We, the club, Turin and Chieri deserve it. We are really very, very, very happy. Usually after a match we say that we are already thinking about the next one, but not tonight. We want to enjoy this evening!”
Reale Mutua Fenera’s journey to the trophy started back in November and, on the way to the top of the podium, the team knocked out six opponents without losing any of the 12 matches played. However, in four of those games, they celebrated only after tough five-set battles. In the semifinals, they started with a 3-2 home win over France’s Levallois Paris Saint Cloud and finished with a straight-set victory in the away game.

The still undefeated Prosecco DOC Imoco Volleyball
after its debut success in Champions with Mladost on Thursday
leaves tomorrow for Piedmont ahead of Sunday’s match-event that will see it engaged LIVE ON RAI DUE at 3:20 pm on the court of Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri
Coach Santarelli’s team has been on a roll so far
7 games played and leading alone thanks to 7 three-point wins
while Chieri is traveling in 6th place with 11 points
The team is at full strength under coach Santarelli
the team will remain in Piedmont to leave Turin on Monday for Plovdiv
where the second round of the Champions League will be staged on Tuesday night
“We have entered a very hot phase of the season
we are playing at a fast pace and commitments are coming up
but I am happy with my team’s responses
now the season presents us with these rhythms and I am pleased with how the whole squad
is responding to the stresses of the calendar
The physical condition is good and I have all of them available
but it is equally fundamental that all of them are ready when called upon
in big teams with so many high-level athletes it is essential if you want to have big goals
considering that we are running on so many fronts
In Champions for example on Thursday I gave space to the young girls and they did very well
but we know how valuable our young people are and the commitment they put in every day even in training
On Sunday we have a tough away match in Chieri
the Piedmontese are by now a certainty in the Italian league
they have now entered permanently among the top five forces in the league and also this season they have the staff to be protagonists and play with anyone
It is one of the most insidious away matches
Chieri has a long roster with important weapons
although we face this and the next matches with little training to prepare them
I am confident in my team and in the possibility of giving continuity to our results
The girls know that we will have to play our best volleyball on Sunday
so we leave with confidence for this double trip
as we will then go directly to Bulgaria for the Champions League match in Plovdiv..”
Belgium’s Kaja Grobelna was MVP of the match Thursday night as she led Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri to a nail-biting 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 17-25, 15-11) win at home over Saugella Monza that ties their best-of-three quarterfinal series of the Italian Women’s League Playoffs at 1-1 and forces a decider.
It is the only of the quarterfinal series that extends to a third match, after defending champions Imoco Volley Conegliano, Savino de Bene Scandicci and Igor Gorgonzola Novara wrapped it all up after two games and secured their places in the semifinals.
Grobelna, who is expected to lead Belgium in the upcoming FIVB Volleyball Nations League next month, scored 19 points against Monza – as many as her Belgium teammate Lise Van Hecke brought home for the vistors. Alexandra Franti, with 22 points for Chieri was top scorer of the game.
At Scandicci, meanwhile, Poland’s Magdalena Stysiak top-scored once again with 26 points as the home side outlasted Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 15-7) – but it was Bulgaria’s Elitsa Vasileva that picked up the MVP of the match award thanks to some solid receiving and a scoring performance of 16 points. Canada’s Alexa Gray scored 24 points Busto.
Novara had an easier task in the midweek action, dealing with Bartocccini Fortinifissi Perugia 3-1 (25-22, 25-13, 20-25, 25-22) on the road at the BalaBarton, with Poland’s Malwina Smarzek scoring 16 points including two aces and three blocks. The 24-year-old opposite shared the top scoring honours with Cuba’s Kenia Carcares.
Caterina Bosetti’s precise receiving earned her the MVP of the match award.

is focused on the study of the aerial environment and economics for producing indoor leafy greens
The concept of OptimIA originated when Erik Runkle at Michigan State University
Chieri Kubota at Ohio State University and Cary Mitchell at Purdue University were involved in an LED lighting project focused on greenhouse applications
“It was getting to the end of the project and we asked ourselves what is the next frontier of lighting and growing,” said Runkle
who is a horticulture professor at Michigan State
“We came to the realization that the greatest opportunity and need for information was managing the environment for vertical farming production
We saw the next frontier as growing indoors and the need for research-based information
The name OptimIA came from our focus on optimizing indoor agriculture–Opti for optimizing and IA for indoor agriculture.”
In 2015 the three researchers submitted a USDA Specialty Crop Research Initiative grant proposal for funding that would focus on lighting
but would include other aspects of growing indoors
“We went through the proposal submission process for several years before the USDA approved the grant for the OptimIA project,” Runkle said
“The proposal that was finally approved was to study the aerial environment as well as economics for indoor leafy greens
The aerial environment refers to air circulation
Some of our team members are also studying root zone management of hydroponic crops using additional funding.”
USDA awarded $2.4 million to the OptimIA project in September 2019
which was scheduled to be completed in four years
Runkle is the project director with the funding split between six researchers
the OptimIA team consists of Roberto Lopez
director of the Controlled Environment Agriculture Center at University of Arizona
other collaborators on the project include Chris Peterson
which specializes in the design of HVAC systems for indoor plant environments.
The OptimIA project objectives were based on feedback from commercial vertical farms
Cary and I visited several commercial vertical farms before we started this project,” said Chieri Kubota
who is director of the Ohio Controlled Environment Agriculture Center at Ohio State University
“We received feedback from growers as to what to work on using USDA funding.”
Based on input from commercial indoor growers
potential profits and conduct an economic analysis to determine the strategies to improve profitability based on that information
Vertical farms have the capacity to optimize multiple environmental factors at the same time
The information for co-optimizing more than two of these factors together didn’t exist
OptimIA is looking at co-optimization of multiple factors in order to optimize production performance of plants to increase yields
OptimIA is looking to provide extension outreach to educate the professionals who are involved in vertical farming
Often the people who are trying to develop commercial indoor farms are educated in the business sector or other sectors like agronomy and may not have training in controlled environment production
“Economics is a major part of this project,” Runkle said
“There is no doubt that high quality leafy greens can be grown in indoor farms
The challenge is how to do this profitably and sustainably
The economists on our team are working to quantify the costs of production and then determine the greatest opportunities to reduce input costs
“There is very little financial information available about this sector of the controlled environment industry
so it is difficult to get a clear sense of the economics
There are more researchers studying the plant production side
but the OptimIA team realizes the importance of the economics.”
Commercial growers and allied trades people can become involved with OptimIA by attending OptimIA’s annual stakeholder meeting
“In the stakeholder meetings those people or companies willing to collaborate or who have been collaborating with us can participate in determining specific collaboration opportunities and to provide feedback to our research outcomes,” Kubota said
“We have on-site trials planned for testing some of OptimIA’s research findings in commercial settings
These findings might include the optimum light spectra for growing specific leafy greens or sensing the environmental inputs that might cause nutrient disorders like tipburn
If any stakeholders or companies are interested in testing a new approach in their facilities through this on-site collaboration we welcome that opportunity.”
Another form of support from the industry can come through in-kind support pledges
“Initially this project proposal was submitted to USDA with a pledge of in-kind support,” Kubota said
growing media and fertilizer manufacturers have provided in-kind support pledges
We can add additional in-kind support contributions if other companies want to provide technologies useable in the project
as well as on-site trials if a company wants to conduct trials
Doing the trials means a company has to be willing to spend the time
production space and employee participation
Because of the competitiveness currently within the indoor farm sector
there has been some hesitancy from commercial growers to share production and economic information
“Some of these indoor farm growers are of the mindset that they want to dominate their sector,” Kubota said
“They aren’t thinking that the industry is new so let’s help each other in order to establish the sector together so that it can grow
“Another issue is most of the funding for the indoor farming sector comes from venture capital
These indoor farms are chasing a limited number of investors
The potential leafy greens and other indoor farm crops market is huge
If growers work together to try to bring the technology together and develop some type of standardization
it would be easier to introduce new supporting technologies.”
Kubota said many indoor farms are designing and developing unique production systems
“Because of the unique technology being incorporated into these farms
it is not easy to develop automation or adapt other existing technologies to support current systems because they are not standardized,” she said
“Because of the funding issues and the culture it can be difficult to get started in the indoor farm sector.”
OptimIA researchers said at times it has been difficult collecting specific information from indoor farm companies
“The challenge is indoor farm companies don’t like to share much about their technology or about their production,” Runkle said
“They don’t like to share what their light set points are or what their production cycles are
They don’t like to get into specifics because it is their intellectual property
“When we have opportunities for input on our research
we have been delivering light intensities that were common three years ago
but now indoor farms are delivering more light
Growers would like to see studies done with higher light intensities
which shows the industry is developing very quickly
It’s good that the indoor farms provide input
but they need to share more of their interests and feedback related to our studies
This could influence what our treatments might be.”
One of the major ways OptimIA is disseminating information about its research findings is through its monthly Indoor Ag Science Café webinars
“We often include our own research findings in the webinars
but we also invite other presenters to share educational information,” Kubota said
“Originally the webinars were supposed to be a closed forum so that people could discuss things without having to worry about comments or information being publicized
When the Café started in 2018 there were about 60 participants in the listserv who received information of the monthly topics
Since then the number of people participating in the webinars has increased to over 1,300.
“Many of the participants are international because they don’t have these kinds of events in their own countries
That is one of the reasons we wanted to improve communication
We want to respond to their needs more effectively
We keep looking for ways to provide information to the indoor farm industry.”
“These other researchers are working on critical areas of indoor vertical farms,” Kubota said
Paul Fisher at the University of Florida has discussed biofilm
Both at Rutgers University talked about the basics of sensors
how to use them and how to install the appropriate sensors.”
Oishi and Harvest Moon Farms have done webinars
some have declined because the presentations are usually recorded
“Many representatives from commercial indoor farms do not like to be recorded
Consequently there aren’t as many commercial corporation presentations on the OptimIA archive page
Some companies do not want me to record their presentations
Companies that do presentations sometimes deliver very general information that lacks specifics.”

It is my hope that this and other studies will lead to intra-industry collaboration so that the indoor farming industry will both grow and mature
there are many versions of the indoor farming model that is yet to be created to address many of our society’s food sustainability issues
We will know that agtech has turned the corner of true viability when we see young people hoping to become urban farmers when they graduate from high school

The best way I can describe Hechi’s The Dark Doctor Ikuru is to invite you to imagine a post apocalyptic version of the medical drama House M.D
mixed with Cells at Work Black and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
RELATED: The Top 5 Creepiest Manga Monsters
There is no sickness nor infectious disease that Ikuru cannot cure
he recovers immediately and can never again be infected by the same virus
This is due to a mutation in his antibodies which
allows them to trigger the apoptosis of infected cells
his blood is a “magic bullet” against diseases
Ikuru takes to finding new ways to use his blood to cure others
albeit by infecting and torturing himself with life-threatening diseases
Deriving an almost perverse excitement from the excruciating pain and challenge each new disease presents his body
the thanatophile’s methods have earned him the reputation of the titular ‘Dark Doctor’ and ostracization by his peers
Aside from diseases we may see in the real-world
Ikuru’s world also finds itself threatened by the byproducts of the Sick Star
a deranged-looking shooting star that evokes the moon from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and infects Earth with a number of new diseases
all of which look like something straight out of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
Ikuru finds himself opposing the Sick Star Assembly
a radical religious cult who worships the eponymous star as a god and seeks to carry out what they believe is ‘God’s Will’ by wiping out mankind with an artificial pandemic
And not only are the Sick Star Assembly posing a threat to the entire world
but the fact that Ikuru proves the perfect weapon against them also serves to impede his own personal goal: finding a way to die and escaping his biological curse
If you ever wanted to see what Marvel’s tortuous She-Hulk: Attorney at Law series would look like if it was actually well-done
look no further than Mitogawa Wataru’s giant of a slice-of-life romcom
Chieri’s Love is 8 Meters follows the lives of new transfer student Omine Chieri
an adorable 11th grader whose size provides the series’ titular height measurement
and her childhood friend Kotaki “Yume” Yumeji
Chieri spends everyday trying to do nothing more than live a normal life – a feat she accomplishes thanks to some accommodating aid from the government
as they can’t exactly cover all her needs
they assign Yume to help Chieri out on a personal level
to watching the fallout of the two sharing an indirect kiss
to following Chieri’s morning routine of saving people on her way to school
each chapter released thus far has been nothing but pure cuteness
the series’ featured a billboard for Disney+ and its Marvel offerings in its eighth chapter
And while this may be me reading a bit too much into it
one wonders if this is Wataru foreshadowing a future take-down of the Jade Giantess’ tortuous series by way of comparing the superior Chieri to the eye-rolling heroines the M-She-U has to offer
Comikey has the action packed Battle in Five Seconds After Meeting
Kodansha has the psychological thriller Tomodachi Game
and now Shueisha has entered the death game arena with a series that can best be described as a beautifully disturbing combination of the aforementioned two stories
In mangaka Kenji Sakaki’s new horror tale
the actual Tokyo Underworld itself is more than just an urban legend
it’s a supernatural copy of Tokyo where murder victims can send their killers to be judged and punished appropriately for their crimes by President Tower and his legion of supernatural ‘Executioners’
who set out to escape from the Tokyo Underworld after their homeroom teacher has the entire class labeled as murderers by committing suicide and blaming them for driving him to do it
Similar to Battle in Five Seconds After Meeting and Tomodachi Game
Sakaki has plenty of bigger mysteries hidden in the pits of Tokyo Underworld’s story – of particular note is the connection between Yami and Yomi’s parents and Enra Mizoregi
history’s second most vicious criminal
and what exactly did Yomi do to earn the top spot in that category?
Of note in Tokyo Underground is the fact that each of President Tower’s aforementioned Executioners feature Sakaki’s disturbing takes on different historical figures
Class 2-A has faced twisted versions of the Japanese warrior monk Saito Benkei
with more such interpretations undoubtedly lying in wait in future chapters

(ANS - Castelnuovo Don Bosco) - The last day of the International Meeting for those responsible for the Salesian Bulletin was dedicated to visiting the places of Don Bosco
It was a wonderful opportunity for the participants to immerse themselves at the epicentre of the Congregation with guided visits to Chieri and Becchi under the able guidance of Fr
The entire day provided ample moments to discover a little more about the life of Don Bosco and the beginning of his priestly life
as well as to understand all the difficulties that the saint of young people went through to realise the dream that he had at the age of nine
The visit began at the Church of San Domenico
The visit helped everyone to perceive the difficulties that John Bosco had to go through at Chieri
as he arrived there in that city to continue his studies
For someone who had always lived in the countryside
arriving in a city of 9,000 inhabitants was truly impressive. Bosco was lodged in the house of a widow named Lucia Matta
where he also slept and studied under a tiny
For those taking part in the international meeting of the Salesian Bulletin
it was truly moving to be able to visit this emblematic place
At that time John Bosco did not know what direction to take in his life
but despite the difficulties he did not give up
On entering the seminary at Chieri - which the participants were also able to visit - Don Bosco made good friends
there was an exhibition on the life of Don Bosco at Chieri
The visit to Chieri ended at the college of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) where it was possible to see the table where Don Bosco worked
The second part of this visit was to Colle Don Bosco which allowed one to truly immerse oneself in the dream that gave birth to the Salesian Congregation
the participants were able to get to know a little better the childhood of Don Bosco
and his humble beginnings. In a humble house
Don Bosco had the dream that changed his whole life
"what you see happen to these wolves that become lambs
This was the anticipation of an extraordinary educational and pastoral vocation that allows us to say today that we are part of this great Family
the participants were able to take part in the Eucharist that took place in Temple of Don Bosco
the General Councillor for Social Communication
little John knew he needed good advice to help him realise his dream
If at Becchi Don Bosco learned the foundations of his faith with the help of Mamma Margherita
at Chieri he built up his human and Christian personality
and the years he spent there were very important for him and for the development of his faith
it was a memorable and unforgettable visit for all the participants of the international meeting of Salesian Bulletin
and it recharged them fully with Salesian energy as they returned back to their countries carrying within their hearts that renewed zeal for Don Bosco and the Salesian Mission.
Freisa is the wild and more rustic kin of one of the world’s greatest cultivars
An ancient variety found in Italy’s northwestern region of Piedmont
Freisa is the closest relative to Nebbiolo
Genetic studies (Schneider, Boccacci, Torello et al, 2004) show that Freisa and Nebbiolo share a parent-offspring connection and, according to Ian D’Agata, author of Italy’s Native Wine Grape Terroirs
to high tannins and acidity which lend to the wine’s ability to age
‘Give Freisa 10-12 years and it’s almost indistinguishable to Nebbiolo,’ says D’Agata
it is capable of producing a mesmerisingly perfumed wine of great structure
Freisa is made in a less self-aggrandizing style than its Nebbiolo-based cousins Barolo or Barbaresco and it’s this vivacity that is the key to its charm,’ says Kirk Peterson
Freisa was first documented in early 1500s in the commune of Pancalieri when customs tariffs revealed an expensive
quality wine for the time called Fresearum
Freisa was more popular and valuable than it is today and occupied up to half of all acreage devoted to vines in Asti and Alessandria
noble properties – notably the The Royal Vineyard of the House of Savoy – most likely cultivated Freisa as it was always associated with the vineyards surrounding the town of Turin
Ernest Hemingway expressed curiosity towards Freisa in Farewell to Arms noting a ‘clear
Freisa was prevalent in nearly all red blends from Piedmont
the grapes were planted on marginal sites and eventually became a target of criticism
in addition to being eclipsed by more popular grapes
the historic Royal Vineyard was recently restored when Balbiano winery collaborated with the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Piedmont and Turin governments to ‘rescue’ Freisa with the planting of the grape and the eventual release the Vigna della Regina Freisa di Chieri DOC in 2009
The wine boasts two namesake DOCs – Freisa d’Asti and Freisa di Chieri – and is also present in Piemonte
Superiore and Spumante wines are made of 100 percent Freisa
Superiore has a minimum 11.5 percent ABV with minimum one year aging
Freisa di Chieri DOC was established in 1973
Superior and Spumante require at least 90 percent Freisa
Ageing for Superiore requires a minimum of one year
Vineyard area for all Freisa grown is just over 1,000 hectares
The grape variety derives its name from the Latin word freisa
which is essentially named after the grape
exhibits aromas and flavors that are hauntingly complex and vivacious
often reminiscent of the characteristics of the brambly aggregate fruit
ranging from sweet to sour with an attractive bitter edge
Produced in an array of styles from sweet to dry and still to frizzante and spumante
sommeliers are drawn by its profound swirl of berry aromas
crunchy freshness and flavours of sour red cherries
Freisa exhibits mouth-watering acidity and is adamantly tannic
both of which contribute to its ageability
It’s the style of wine whose profile exquisitely suits the modern palate and pairs well with a variety of dishes
Freisa is very much at home with the classic dishes associated with its native region
meat-filled agnolotti del plin and the like,’ says Peterson
‘But Freisa’s structural and flavor profile grant it a versatility that earns it a place on the world stage
pairing extremely well with the exotic spice of dishes as diverse as chana masala to crispy aromatic Peking-style duck.’
Vajra produces a Langhe DOC Freisa named ‘Kyè’
which in Piedmontese dialect translates to ‘Who is it?’ – a playful nod to the little-known Freisa

Kertu Laak and her Italian Serie A1 volleyball club Chieri '76 finished their back-to-back with Scandicci
finishing both matches with comeback victories
The 22-year old Laak played well in Sunday's match against Scandicci
The Estonian joined the game after usual starter Kaja Grobelna struggled and took over from there
leading Chieri in points (+13) and bringing Chieri back from being down 0:1 to start the match
We had had quite a few games in a row and the players who have been in the line-up over the last games are getting tired
I felt very good in practice this week and felt I hit on things during training
I tried to do my part and everything went well in that sense
There were not a lot of mistakes and I am glad that the second game went to us
It was a long game (34:32) and I think that is where the victory came from," Laak told Vikerraadio on Monday
Laak feels like her goal of gaining more playing time and taking advantage of her opportunities is closer by the day
"The season has gone uphill in the sense that last season started as well
This year has been more stable and I have been in the line-up for almost the entire season
I finally have a full season-like feeling," Laak noted
who follows Chieri in the season standings at fifth
ended with Chieri taking another win after being down to start the match
Laak collected 16 points (+8) to end the match after joining the match in the second game
Chieri now sits fourth for the Serie A1 season with 34 points
Their fourth position is made more important by the fact that the first four teams automatically clinch a spot in the play-offs
Conegliano is still comfortably ahead with 57 points
followed by Novara and Monza with 46 and 42 points
