It has a unique and warm scent that smells almost like a vanilla candle," he says
noting that the fragrance comes is available two different sizes

The 17 Best Winter Fragrances for Men to Smell Fine and Fresh (Even If That Heavy Coat Is Sweat-Inducing)
COLOGNE, Germany (AP) — Cologne is turning to promotion specialist Friedhelm Funkel to lead the team back to the Bundesliga
which is second in Germany’s second division
fired Gerhard Struber as coach on Monday and appointed the 71-year-old Funkel for the last two games of the season
It’s Funkel’s third stint in charge at Cologne and his first job since leading Kaiserslautern to the German Cup final last season
Funkel has led six teams to Bundesliga promotion – more than any other
Cologne was leading the second division with four matches remaining, then lost at Hannover before drawing at home with relegated Jahn Regensburg, which allowed Hamburger SV move top on Saturday
The top two are promoted to the Bundesliga
Cologne has a three-point lead over third-place Elversberg before it plays Nuremberg and Kaiserslautern for its final two games
“Given the big remaining chance of a direct return we have to do everything to take this chance,” Cologne president Werner Wolf said
Funkel was relegated from the Bundesliga with Cologne in 2003 during his first stint
then clinched survival in 2021 during his second
His third will be his 14th coaching appointment after jobs at Neuss, Uerdingen, Duisburg, Rostock, Cologne, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hertha Berlin, Bochum, Aachen, 1860 Munich, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Cologne again, and Kaiserslautern.

like the smell of ocean air traveling inland
giving it long-lasting depth and complexity that will have people asking
Canary Diamond centers around pineapple—more specifically
and miles more complex than other men’s colognes in its price range
It happens to be my signature scent as well
it’s hard to find the note in non-designer fragrances
That’s why I was so excited to discover Sh**ty Day
which features a salted fig heart note that’s crisp and refreshing
NOYZ pairs this with a bracing dose of ocean air
and “sea-soaked woods,” giving an impression of beach days spent running around spiking a volleyball and racing over sand dunes
Glamour’s Smith describes Vallée de Farney as “a forest on the first nice day of spring,” and I completely agree
This oil starts with a sharp kick of black pepper before it leans into a deeply grounding
I reach for this for a boost in mental clarity
Unlike a lot of perfume oils, which tend to stay close to the skin, this one has impressive projection and lasts for hours. If you want to touch up between a day at the office and a night out to dinner and drinks, the travel-friendly format makes doing so easy. We recommend it as your next summer fragrance.
Calvin Klein CK One launched in 1994 to instant notoriety
It was the first fragrance to be marketed as unisex
complete with black-and-white ads of the era’s top female and male models to play up its androgyny
While the concept of a unisex scent is relatively tame in 2025
zingy notes of mandarin and bergamot mingle with refreshing green tea and jasmine
while a light musk keeps the scent lingering on your skin for hours
Because this is an eau de toilette, there’s no risk of overspraying. It’s perfect for when you want to smell good but not too loud in the office, during class, or while lounging on a hot summer day. Our shopping editors say it’s a great perfume for a teenage guy.
There’s a reason Dior Sauvage is constantly championed as one of the most popular colognes for men. It opens with a blast of of citrus, salty marine notes, and warm, rich elemi, which perfectly balances a hit spicy Sichuan pepper in the heart note.
Spices, jasmine, peach skin, and a musky base make this an alluringly mysterious scent for a night out.
“Your Turn is this balance of bright, spicy, sweet, and earthy that’s always evolving on your skin,” says Sinks. “The peach skin comes through here without turning it into a true fruity fragrance, and the ginger and cardamom add some spicy depth without weighing it down. It’s an effervescent scent that sparkles on the skin throughout wear and makes you look forward to the next time you spray it on.” Plus, the dice-shaped bottle looks undeniably cool sitting on any guy’s shelf.
As a self-proclaimed hater of most leather scents, I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with this perfume oil. However, it’s quickly climbed to the top of my scent rotation, on its own and layered under other favorite fragrances.
Violet, lily-of-the-valley, and orchid provide a soft floral backdrop to sun-tanned leather, creamy sandalwood, and warm amber. Because this is an oil, it won’t project as much as a spray, but it will last forever on skin. Honestly, it’s the perfect excuse for getting someone to lean in closer for a smell.
As you’re hunting for the best men’s fragrances, you’ll probably come across the word “accord” more than once. In perfumery, an accord is a group of notes blended together to smell like something else; for example, an amber accord, or in the case of Dead Dinosaur, a gasoline accord.
“Ever notice how many people love the smell of gasoline? I don’t get it, but I’m one of them,” says Sinks. “This is one of the only fragrances I’ve smelled that interprets that scent into a perfume, and one of the few that does it well. It’s deep and charred and rubbery, like tire tread and gasoline on hot pavement, but has enough heady florals and soft woods to balance it into something hypnotic.”
Cannabloom has notes that you see show up in a lot of men’s fragrances: grapefruit
until you realize there’s also a cannabis note at the heart
And while there’s no actual THC anywhere in the fragrance
As someone born and raised in northern California
this perfume oil instantly flooded me with summer memories
and smells much more expensive than the under-$100 price tag suggests
I love pulling this out of my bag and passing it around for friends to try
What are the differences between a cologne
The differences lie in the concentration of fragrance oils
“Their scent profiles also tend to differ,” says Watteau
Eau de toilette is still fresh but slightly more intense
What makes some fragrances more affordable than others
The most obvious difference between designer fragrances and cheap fragrances is ingredients
or rose essence—are extremely costly and add depth
and packaging can also influence the price of a cologne
the concentration of fragrance oils plays a role
“Lighter formats like body sprays and mists are generally more affordable due to their lower concentration of fragrance oils compared to eau de toilette or eau de parfum,” says Watteau
“Musk captives are patented ingredients developed by a company and available exclusively to their in-house perfumers,” says Watteau
though—it can be any aroma chemical that a company develops and patents for use among its perfumers
A captive can lend “a distinct signature” that is found in many of the company’s perfumes and sets those scents apart from others on the market
You can find DSM-Firmenich captives in our best date night fragrance listed below
Is there a difference between men’s and women’s fragrances
What is the most attractive-smelling cologne?
The most attractive-smelling cologne will vary widely from person to person. Our body chemistry, our memories associated with specific scents, and honestly, who you’re asking to rate a fragrance’s attractiveness, will have a major impact on what smells good to each individual. That being said, there are plenty of popular crowd-pleasers on this list.

Armani Acqua di Giò is a timeless cologne that offers a perfect balance of fresh
aquatic scents and deeper woody notes that make it suitable for nearly any occasion
We’ve been fans of Acqua di Giò for years
and it’s easy to see why this fragrance has remained so popular
the initial burst of bergamot and citrus notes was immediately refreshing
The scent settled nicely into subtle jasmine and marine notes that aren’t too overpowering
The cologne has impressive staying power for a fresh fragrance
We noticed it lasted through most of our workday without becoming too faint
The 100ml bottle is well-designed with clean lines that look sophisticated on any bathroom counter
Its aquatic profile makes it perfect for spring and summer months
What truly sets this cologne apart is its versatility
We wore it during important meetings and casual outings
and cedarwood creates a masculine depth that evolves beautifully throughout the day
While it’s certainly an investment piece
we believe the classic appeal and quality formulation make Acqua di Giò worth considering for any man’s fragrance collection
This refreshing cologne offers a perfect balance of citrus and woody notes that makes it ideal for everyday wear or special occasions
We recently tested Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue Pour Homme and were impressed by its crisp
The 2.5-ounce bottle packs a punch with its blend of Sicilian mandarin
These top notes create an immediate fresh sensation that isn’t overwhelming
The middle and base notes reveal themselves gradually throughout the day
and musk become more prominent after a few hours of wear
but Light Blue maintained its presence well into the evening without requiring reapplication
What makes this cologne stand out is its versatility. We’ve worn it during business meetings and casual outings, receiving compliments in both settings. The portable size makes it convenient for travel or keeping in a gym bag
While the price is higher than some alternatives
the quality and longevity of the scent make it worth the investment for men seeking a signature everyday fragrance
This affordable cologne delivers a sophisticated blend of spices
and black vanilla that rivals much pricier options
We recently tested the Cremo Spice & Black Vanilla cologne and were genuinely impressed by its performance
The initial spray releases vibrant spice notes that grab attention without overwhelming the senses
woody heart that feels sophisticated and masculine
The most surprising aspect was how the black vanilla base notes emerged several hours into wear
This three-stage scent evolution isn’t something we typically find in colognes at this price point
We applied it before a full workday and could still detect subtle notes by evening
though it does stay closer to the skin after about 5-6 hours
For men seeking an everyday signature scent without breaking the bank
this Cremo offering delivers exceptional value
The fragrance feels appropriate for both office settings and casual outings
While it doesn’t have the projection or complexity of high-end designer colognes costing four times as much
it performs remarkably well for its price category and receives compliments consistently
This elegant Italian fragrance offers a unique blend of floral and herbal notes that stands out from typical men’s colognes
We recently tried Versace The Dreamer and were immediately impressed by its distinctive character

this Versace offering deserves serious consideration
This Versace sampler set offers great value for men who want to explore different high-end fragrances before committing to a full bottle
We recently tested this Versace cologne sampler set and were impressed by the variety of scents packed into these mini bottles
and Eau Fraiche – giving you a tour of Versace’s most popular men’s fragrances
which is enough to get a real feel for how the cologne performs on your skin
The compact size makes these perfect for travel or keeping in your gym bag
a little goes a long way with these concentrated formulas
The scents themselves are authentic and potent
delivering the same luxury experience as their full-sized counterparts
Eros stands out with its bold vanilla and mint notes
while Dylan Blue offers a more sophisticated woody aroma
One slight drawback is that only one bottle features a spray applicator – the rest require dabbing
While some might find the price a bit steep for samples
we believe it’s worthwhile for anyone serious about finding their signature Versace scent before investing in a full bottle
These mini colognes let you experiment with different fragrances for different occasions
from casual daytime wear to evening events
This luxurious men’s cologne offers a perfect balance of spicy and sweet notes that make it worth every penny for special occasions.
We recently got our hands on the Azzaro Most Wanted Parfum, and it immediately stood out from other colognes in our collection. The black bottle isn’t just for show – it houses a truly memorable fragrance that combines spicy fougère with warm vanilla and incandescent woods. This cologne quickly became our go-to for date nights and special events.
The first spray reveals a bold mix of red ginger that gradually settles into a more complex scent. We noticed that a little goes a long way with this parfum. Just two sprays lasted throughout an entire evening, which helps justify the price tag. The French craftsmanship really shows in how the scent layers and develops over time.
During colder months, this fragrance truly shines. The bourbon vanilla notes provide a sweet undertone that balances perfectly with the spicier elements. While it might be too heavy for summer wear, we found it perfect for fall and winter occasions when you want to make a statement. The compliments we received while wearing it confirmed what we already knew – Azzaro has created something special with this parfum.
We recommend Versace Eros for men seeking a bold, long-lasting fragrance that stands out in any setting.
When we first tried Versace Eros, we were immediately struck by its powerful opening notes. The fragrance has a distinctive mint and apple combination that feels both refreshing and masculine. Many colognes fade quickly, but this one maintains its presence for 7-8 hours.
The bottle design reflects the premium Versace brand with its bright turquoise color and Medusa logo. It fits comfortably in hand and the spray mechanism distributes just the right amount of cologne. Though smaller than some options at 1.7 ounces, the concentrated formula means you need fewer sprays.
We’ve worn this to both office settings and evening events with great success. The scent evolves nicely throughout the day, starting with those fresh top notes before settling into a warmer vanilla base. Men of all ages seem to appreciate this fragrance, making it a safe gift choice too. The compliments received when wearing Eros confirm its reputation as a crowd-pleaser.
Choosing the right cologne can be tricky. We’ve created this guide to help you find the perfect scent for your needs.
Fragrances fall into several main categories. Knowing these can help you narrow down your preferences.
The concentration affects how long a scent lasts and how much you should apply.
Never purchase without testing the cologne on your skin first. Fragrances react differently with each person’s body chemistry.
Try a small amount on your wrist and give it time to develop. The scent will change over several hours.
Different scents work better in different weather. Lighter, fresher scents suit summer, while warmer, spicier notes are better for winter.
Quality colognes range widely in price. Consider cost per wear – an expensive fragrance you love and wear often may be a better value than a cheaper one you rarely use.
Finding the perfect cologne can be challenging with so many options available. We’ve compiled answers to the most common questions men ask when searching for their ideal scent.
The top-rated men’s colognes in 2025 include Dior Sauvage, Bleu de Chanel, and Tom Ford Ombré Leather. Creed Aventus continues to receive excellent reviews for its pineapple and smoky notes. Versace Eros and YSL Y Eau de Parfum round out the list with their modern appeal.
These fragrances consistently earn high marks from both critics and consumers for their quality and appeal.
Parfums de Marly Layton and Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille are known for lasting 8+ hours on skin. Dior Sauvage Elixir and Creed Aventus also provide excellent staying power throughout the day.
For strong projection, consider Jean Paul Gaultier Ultra Male or Versace Eros. These colognes leave a noticeable scent trail without becoming overwhelming.
Middle Eastern-inspired fragrances like Initio Oud for Greatness and Amouage Interlude Man often offer exceptional performance in both categories.
Creed stands out with its handcrafted approach and prestigious heritage. Tom Ford offers sophisticated luxury fragrances that blend boldness with refinement.
Parfums de Marly and Maison Francis Kurkdjian represent modern luxury with their innovative compositions. Roja Dove and Amouage create opulent scents with rare ingredients for the discerning gentleman.
These brands justify their higher price points with quality ingredients, craftsmanship, and distinctive character.
Versace Eros and Prada Luna Rossa Carbon appeal to younger men with their fresh, energetic profiles. Armani Code Absolu offers a sweet, date-night friendly option that’s popular among 18-25 year olds.
Montblanc Explorer provides a versatile, affordable alternative to more expensive scents. Calvin Klein CK One remains a minimalist classic for those entering the fragrance world.
Young adults often appreciate these colognes for their modern appeal and versatility across different settings.
Dior Eau Sauvage (1966) remains a benchmark for citrus aromatic fragrances even after decades. Chanel Pour Monsieur (1955) exemplifies timeless French elegance with its refined chypre structure.
Guerlain Habit Rouge (1965) pioneered the oriental fragrance category for men. Old Spice (1937), though more accessible, maintains its place as an iconic masculine scent.
These classics have influenced countless modern fragrances and continue to be worn by men of all ages.
Bleu de Chanel works excellently as a signature scent due to its versatility and mass appeal. Dior Homme Intense offers a sophisticated iris-based alternative that stands out subtly.
For something uniquely recognizable, Terre d’Hermès combines earthy and citrus notes in a distinctive way. Tom Ford Grey Vetiver provides a clean, professional profile perfect for daily wear.
We recommend testing potential signature scents in different settings before committing, as a true signature should feel comfortable in most situations.

As we left the event on Sunday afternoon I turned to my fiancé and said
“This has probably been the greatest Star Wars event I’ve been too and maybe one of my favourite days as a Star Wars fan.”
The event is held in an industrial area of the city and the space is a decent sized venue that covers four or so halls
never once did it feel overcrowded or too much
To go to this event had been a Christmas gift from Kristina and I’ve always wanted to attend but like some things in life – it just hadn’t panned out
it was decked out in stunning style everywhere you looked
plenty of space to sit and relax and I’m probably forgetting some things
The organizers had spared no expense with the venue
props and flags adorned the walls to look like the Empire
There are plenty of traders to satisfy your Star Wars collecting needs and I picked up some truly wonderful and unique items including things I didn’t event know existed
The prices were all incredibly fair and if I hadn’t had been flying with Ryanair and their infamous bag policy then a good suitcase was needed
The line-up was incredible and included Anthony Daniels
As always with these events there’s no rush at all and we spoke with Barry for a good five minutes about The Mandalorian
He was brilliant to talk too and gave all the fans the time they needed and after a minute of talking to him it felt like we were fast friends
The panels here run like a well-oiled machine and give all Star Wars fans an intimate chance to hear from their heroes about a galaxy far
Never once to you feel rushed in anyway and any queues or booths are run down to a fine art form
it doesn’t feel enough to convey just how much fun I had at this event
Everywhere you look there are fans experiencing joy
If there’s any concerns about Star Wars surviving in the future
then it’s not to be found here in Germany as there are younglings everywhere having the time of their lives
Little Lukes and Vaders were battling it out everywhere you looked
There’s a fantastic video game area where you can play all sorts of Star Wars games
There was event a stall discussing Star Wars and mental health
and it was fantastic to see so many people interacting
Socialising played a big part in this weekend and it seemed friends old and new had come to hang out
have a drink with fellow fans and enjoy themselves
was attending Roger Christian’s panel and being in the company of the very first lightsaber ever built
From Barry Lowin we learned that no one on the small set learned that Mark Hamill was returning to Star Wars until the day of filming thanks to endless ‘dummy’ scripts and from Grant Feely’s panel we learned that he wasn’t a huge Star Wars fan when he got the job and Deborah Chow asked him to not dive in too deep for research
Luke was so disconnected to the main story during the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi that she wanted Grant to remain the same
The star of the show here was Anthony Daniels
you could see him interacting with fans for his autographs and Kristina commented on just what a gentleman he was being and he was so gracious with fans
I’ve met Anthony a couple of times over the decades but I wanted a professional photo with the stalwart of Star Wars and it came out brilliantly
loved this event and took in everything one last time
I picked up a few bargains to end the day with and it was time to head back to the city for the train to the airport

Only at an event like this would it happen
A banner showed that next year’s event is running 16th – 17th May 2026 and I fell in love with this show that much that I’ve already cleared the diary
You will not be disappointed with this event

Why it’s worth it: Those who want to smell like they just took a trip to the Hawaii location of The White Lotus should spring for Diptyque’s Eau Nabati, which leverages notes of spices, fruit, florals, and tobacco to produce a scent farafield from the hustle and bustle of your day job. While it’s not possible to go on vacation every day, a spray of Eau Nabati can get you pretty damn close, making it great to pair alongside warm spring and fall days and in the midst of summertime radness.
Key notes: balsam of Peru, petitgrain, bergamot, tobacco | Sizes: 2.5 oz (74 milliliters)
Key notes: cardamom, amber, tonka, saffron | Sizes: 1.7 ounces (50 milliliters), 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters)

Why it’s worth it: When the call of the wild, well, calls, answer it with D.S. & Durga’s Cowboy Grass (which isn’t a nickname for peyote), a potent pick for those seeking a more outdoorsy fragrance. An arrangement of grass and woods, with a touch of herbal flair, is anchored by vetiver alongside notes of sage, grass, and thyme. Don’t worry; there’s a good balance of both yee and haw here, which means you can wear this in the city and the country without anyone looking at you twice.
Key notes: wild thyme, sagebrush, grass, vetiver, rosewood | Sizes: 3.3 oz (97 milliliters)
Key notes: pine, frankincense, oak, vetiver | Sizes: 1.6 oz (50 milliliters), 3.3 oz (100 milliliters)
Why it’s worth it: For good or for ill, the stereotypical image of a La La Land-esque jazz club is one that evokes an overall sense of refinement. Think of the spark you feel inside as the brass section comes to life over the taste of an old-fashioned or Manhattan. As such, Margiela’s Replica Jazz Club does what it says on the bottle: It goes full-on warmth with notes of pepper, rum, and tobacco, adding a depth of coziness when you feel like you'll need it most.
Key notes: pepper, lemon, rum, sage, tobacco, vetiver | Sizes: 1 oz (30 milliliters), 3.4 oz (100 milliliters)
Key notes: sage, apple, cypress, nutmeg, vetiver | Sizes: 1.6 oz (50 milliliters), 3.3 oz (100 milliliters)

With so many options in the marketplace, it can be overwhelming to figure out where to start selecting a signature cologne, but there are a few good places to start. Linda G. Levy
suggests: “Start by identifying which fragrance classifications you find most appealing—spicy
“By identifying one or two of these that most appeal to you
you begin to pinpoint the scents that complement you or your style best
so the appeal to a classification most likely links you to a scent experience
Bérénice Watteau, a DSM-Firmenich perfumer, concurs with the personal approach. “The most important thing is to find something that resonates with you,” she tells us. “Scent is deeply personal, and it should evoke emotion or memory. It's best to test it on your skin rather than relying on a blotter, as your body chemistry will influence how it develops over time.”
the last thing you want is the scent to fade away after a few hours
the experts have a few tips and tricks to ensure those notes and scent tones stick around longer than the latest viral sensation
“One of my favorite ways to keep scents longer is to apply cologne to skin right after showering or cleansing when your skin is moist and can best absorb the scent,” Levy tells us
“A spray later in the day always is a great way to reinforce and amplify the original cologne from the start of the day
or layer on another intensity or complementary note or accord.”
and using these before applying your cologne creates a base that holds onto the scent longer
Spraying onto fabric can also help
as textiles absorb fragrance differently than skin.” But above all
she stresses how you take care of the bottle and also informs its lifespan
“Storing your fragrance properly is key—keep it away from light and heat
store it in a cool place to maintain its integrity over time
A well-preserved fragrance will always perform at its best.”

By Adam HurlyAdam Hurly has been a grooming and travel journalist since 2013
ranging from iconic fragrances delivered directly from the some of the biggest fashion houses in the world
to rare scents you didn't even know existed
Take it from us ladies: Nothing enhances your spiffy suits and polo shirts quite like a cool
I've rounded up the best colognes for men to rock in 2025
Other than obviously making sure the scent of the fragrance is one he likes
there are a few other factors to consider when purchasing a cologne
Since you aren’t going to be able to actually smell the colognes you’re considering in person
Scents: Spring and summer colognes tend to have a citrus or floral-like tropical smell that reminds you of all the things we associate with warm weather (vacations
Winter fragrances tend to be warmer with woody and earthy scents
Concentration: This helps determine how long a scent lasts
and it's divided into four categories: eau de cologne
as it's estimated to have a one-to-five percent concentration that will last you roughly 1.5 hours
but still light with around eight percent concentration that will last you a couple hours
Eau de parfum is the second strongest ,with about 12-to-20 percent concentration that last approximately a half day
and parfum is the strongest, with an estimated 20-to-40 percent concentration that typically lasts about 8 hours
Consider your climate: Believe it or not
where you live can also impact what type of cologne you should purchase
if you live in a place where the climate is hot year-round
it would probably be wise to invest in a fragrance with a parfum concentration
as those tend to be strong enough to last you the entire day
you could end up having to regularly replace your cologne often
Price: You'll also want to factor in your budget. That's why I'm providing recommendations in every price range
1. Armani Acqua Di Giò
Armani Acqua Di Giò is a scent inspired by the intensity, mystery and depth of the deep blue sea, and it comes personally recommend by beauty and cultures editor Chelsea Candelario's brother
"This cologne smells very elegant and professional
While the scent is a little strong than most colognes
it doesn't feel overwhelming and lasts all day
the bottle size is perfect to last me a long time," he writes
it definitely gives "signature scent" vibes
2. Jo Malone London Beach Blossom Cologne
Christian also recommends this cologne from Jo Malone London
which has a blend of coconut and water as its main notes
"It has a more lighter scent that reminds me of summer vibes
which makes sense considering it's called 'Beach Blossom.' The smell isn't that strong but lasts enough for most of the day," he says
There are two different sizes available (1.7 ounces and 3.4 ounces)
you can definitely make the upgrade to a larger bottle
3. Dior Sauvage
I'd actually go as far as to call Sauvage one of the sexiest scents of all time thanks to its citrus blend, and woody mixtures of geranium, elemi and ambroxan. A couple pumps of this, and you'll instantly be feeling like you're Denzel Washington
I can't quite guarantee feeling like Denzel Washington
4. Elysium by Roja Parfums
Buyers have described Elysium as having an ocean scent with a hint of luxury and opulence
Consisting of a note mixture that includes grapefruit
what you get in return is an elaborate scent that will have everybody asking where you got it from (and then heading to the store to grab one for themselves)
5. Tom Ford Black Orchid
An iconic scent in the fragrance world that has certainly made an impact
he'll get a lot of wear out of this bad boy because it's a parfum
so it will last pretty much the entire day
If you're looking for an office-friendly scent that still makes an impact
6. YSL L' Homme
YSL's Homme de Parfum is a nifty little affordable fragrance that you can enjoy year-round
given its wood-like blend of bergamot
"I was on the hunt for a nice every day cologne for my boyfriend
and this one wasn't even on the top of my list
7. Tommy Hilfiger 'Tommy Boy'
If you want to smell like a slightly more modern version of the 1990s and 2000s, then my suggestion is to go with this highly rated Tommy Fragrance—a cologne that is cool
"I bought this for my husband for Christmas
and he smells just as good as he did when I met him nearly 26 years ago
The glass bottle looks exactly like it did in the '90s too
Glad this is still being made!" You can never go wrong with a classic smell
8. Creed Aventus Fragrance
I consider Creed Aventus a tried-and-true cologne classic—a staple of the fragrance community
and it's that very mixture that has made it such an attractive cologne for decades
there's more than enough to last you for ages if you splurge on the 8.1 or 16.5 ounce bottles (and you don't have to apply a lot for it to be noticeable)
9. Clive Christian Original Collection X
iris and jasmine, it weaves tropical and floral notes with a bit of spice. Granted
it costs a bit more than some other fragrances
but the investment price is well worth it considering the unique scent and parfum-caliber longevity
10. Calvin Klein Eternity
Originally launched as a woman's fragrance in 1988
Eternity has since taken over as one of the go-to men's fragrances
and it's safe to say every cologne-loving man has
That also means if he isn't in this category
that you should definitely change that soon
Containing bergamot and mandarin orange as some of its top notes
basil and orange blossom squeezed into the middle and vetiver and musk for its base
11. Versace Eros
Versace Eros has been thriving as one of the top colognes for men since 1992—that's over thirty years of dominance
it remains the standard for a cologne that naturally emits love and sensuality
somewhat musky scent that is easy to layer
12. DATE for Men
as it blends together sexy sophistication with a fruity scent for a rare smell that you are unlikely to get with any other cologne
DATE will have him hooked all the way through
"A very good fragrance best suited for colder weather
but it also works perfectly for summer evenings as well."
13. Bleu de Chanel
Bleu de Chanel is also another staple in the cologne community
and if you are a fan of the Chanel brand as a whole
it is definitely worth him trying out for bragging rights
This fragrance has intoxicating citrus blends mixed in with a slightly woody sandalwood scent that will give him an airy smell that will have people asking why he smells so darn good
14. Armani Code
Another option from Armani he'll be sure to appreciate
it's one of the quintessential fragrances from the 2000s that have transitioned just as well into the 2020s
That might be thanks to its blend of lemon and bergamot
which has buyers praising its wondrous smell
"This was a large bottle at a bargain price," one reviewer shares. "Fast shipping and yep, now my son smells just as nice as his dad!'
15. Valentino Uomo Born in Roma Coral Fantasy
Valentino's Uomo Born in Roma will be his sugar
spice and everything nice with its mineral
A fragrance that exudes confidence that will have him standing a bit taller
he'll always appreciate having this in his rotation
"When I say this this fragrance will have you turning heads…it’s fruity yet masculine with the wood dry down," writes one Nordstrom buyer
who is very clearly happy with his purchase
"I had to buy another one and gift it to a friend for his 30th birthday!"
16. Ralph's Club
Considering the impeccable quality and smell of this fragrance
$65 as a starter price for this cologne almost seems like a steal
All of the notes bring it home to give this scent a unique smell that is very much unmatched
it is easily to layer thanks to the dreamy lavender
I can't see how you would say no to this one
17. Prada Luna Rossa
Honing in on an aromatic scent that's both dynamic and sporty
Prada's Luna Rossa is a sophisticated fragrance that has a relaxed smell that isn't too strong
it's still strong enough to where cologne enthusiasts will know exactly what he's wearing
18. Acqua Di Parma
Acqua Di Parma has been on store shelves since 1916
and it will definitely have him dropping checkmates on his opponents with its elaborate scent
"This is a classic...maybe THE classic ," exclaims one Nordstrom buyer
ever hated." I honestly don't think I could have said it better
19. Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Homme
Gucci has two different versions of their Guilty Absolute scent—one for women
and the latter has definitely been worth the investment in for those who have tried it
Boasting a woody mixture of notes that are fiery
20. Versace Dylan Blue Pour Homme
Is he even a cologne enthusiast if he hasn't owned Versace Dylan Blue Pour Homme at some point in his life
And if he hasn't ever worn Versace Dylan Blue Pour Homme
You have everything you need right in front of you

One shopper described the fragrance as a “sophisticated scent” that “does not overwhelm but confidently states
'I’m here,'” and that it is “smooth and clean

It is a beautiful scent with notes of orange.” This is a scent that can impress your partner or give you a powerful ambiance when seeking someone new in your life

The best cologne for men might vary across budget
but each operates in service of the same fundamental goal: helping you smell really good
Cologne formulations differ substantially from one scent to the next
but what unites the greatest of the genre is their ability to smartly punctuate your personality—and enhance everyone else’s experience while they’re at it
too (if you’ve ever been stuck in the elevator with a colleague doused in Axe you know exactly what we mean)
so it’s especially important to choose wisely
and the guy at your local bodega associate with you
Regardless of what you’re looking for in a cologne—an everyday go-to, a gloomy-day pick-me-up, a special-occasion statement-maker—there’s a superlative, compliment-eliciting option here with your name on it, each one sprayed, tested, and ultimately loved by us.
Vibe: Sophisticated architect | Key Notes: Citrus, fig, woods
Vibe: Worldly polo player | Key Notes: Pine, patchouli, leather, tobacco
Why we love it: There’s a reason the original Polo continues to hold strong nearly half a century into its existence: It manages to be both sexy and professional, a versatile woody-aromatic scent that works in almost every context. Better yet, because there are so many remixes of the OG, wearing the version that started it all still feels as refreshing as the latest launch.
Vibe: Self-aware creative director | Key Notes: Patchouli, lavender, tonka bean, balsam
Vibe: Happy-go-lucky teenage heartthrob | Key Notes: Citrus
Vibe: That mid-shower moment of mental clarity (but the shower overlooks an ocean) | Key Notes: Citrus, neroli, ginger, black tea
Why we love it: I legitimately get goosebumps every time I smell Louis Vuitton's flagship EDP, a tingle in my scalp that sends serotonin surging through my veins. Before I encountered it, I never thought a scent could make me feel like the gravity had left my body. To put it in less poetic terms: If I had to choose one scent to wear for the rest of my life, it'd probably be this.
Vibe: The coolest account manager at the fanciest marketing agency | Key Notes: Lavender
Why we love it: Every time I wear Tom Ford's Beau de Jour, I feel like I'm cosplaying as a genteel man-about-town. (Joke's on you: I hate the opera.) More realistically, though, I feel like a writer who hits all of his deadlines with zero notes from my editors, who are all very proud of me. That's exactly what it's supposed to do: turn you into the best version of yourself.
Vibe: Dude who swears he “isn’t wearing anything!” | Key Note: Iso E Super
Why we love it: This scent might be the most famous “no-fragrance fragrance” on the market; its Iso E Super molecule expresses itself differently on each wearer. You can layer it with another fragrance or let it mix with your skin's natural chemistry for an oh-so-subtle effect. Some folks won’t notice a thing, others will instantly demand to know what you're wearing.
Vibe: A Saturday at home with your boo | Key Notes: Green tea, musk, lemon, jasmine
Why we love it: By any metric, this is the unisex cologne. It’s great for couples who share scents, especially when both parties prefer wearing something down the middle. I think of CK One as the perfect weekend warrior, too—when all I want to throw on is a beefy hoodie and shades, it's mine to enjoy.
Vibe: Hot tennis instructor | Key Notes: Vetiver
Vibe: Showering at a 5-star hotel | Key Notes: Mint, geranium, patchouli
Why we love it: No scent is fresher than this. Wearing it is like stepping out of the best shower of your life, wrapping yourself in the plushest robe on the planet, and ordering room service on the company tab. It might be a pinch too buoyant for some fellas, but it’s catnip for anyone who might be in the suite (or, heck, the shower) with you when that room service arrives.
Vibe: Math professor who’s kind of a babe | Key Notes: Rose, sandalwood, vetiver, shiso
Why we love it: Whenever I wear Rōzu, I swear that some of my high school AP Calculus knowledge comes back into focus. It sounds corny, but it really does make me feel, well, smarter. Maybe I should give the debate team another go after all.
Vibe: The movie producer everyone’s talking about at Cannes | Key Notes: Licorice, lavender, nutmeg
Why we love it: Of all the Sauvage expressions out there, Elixir excites me the most. I find it perfect for the colder months of the year, the darker half of the day, and any date nights throughout. It has a nice bite, too—a signature licorice-tinged zing that makes it memorable. Memorable on date night…that’s a decent sell, no?
Vibe: DILF at a PTA meeting | Key Notes: Leather, sandalwood, incense
Why we love it: Malin+Goetz has conjured an approachable—dare we say…polite?—way to wear leather, while still announcing to the world that you are, in fact, just as confident as you are sexy. I love that this expression offers so many notes besides just raw, dripping leather. Despite that sex appeal, though, nobody will call you out for wearing it to the hardware store (or in the middle of May).
Vibe: Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine on a Tinder date in Calgary | Key Notes: Musk, vanilla, amber, sandalwood
Why we love it: Musc Ravageur is aptly named, in that it evokes exactly what it advertises: musk-infused sex appeal—but in a playful enough manner that won't overwhelm your date. I wouldn’t wear it to the office, but I would wear it if I wanted to suggest—politely, of course—to someone special that I have the place to myself that evening. It’s a nice way to broadcast your complexity without coming on too strong, if you catch my musky drift.
YSL's latest fragrance also happens to be one of its best. This woody-floral number is an excellent everyday fragrance that's bright and warming, able to easily transition from day to night.
If you fear that a vanilla-forward scent might make you smell like a box of Betty Crocker, then you'll be pleasantly surprised by Guerlain's Spiritueuse Double Vanille. It's vanilla-forward for sure, but it's been expertly balanced to smell more like bourbon than pound cake thanks to a hefty dose of amber and cedar.
For most who are getting into colognes, Creed is their entryway into the luxury scent game. It's overtly citrus on the front, but it's balanced out by lavender and geranium—two amazing floral notes—before the lasting impression is of cedarwood and oakmoss.
This musky number from Diptyque is just the right amount of flowery to justify its name. It's also fruity and sweet, but not so much where it feels like you've been running through a valley of roses.
Woody and citrus notes come together to create a scent that's like a refreshing dip in the lake during the spring
and this one is exceptionally well designed to be appealing for all noses
“Fragrances are not only part of our lives: they’re as individual as a favorite song or pair of jeans.” Here's how to zero in on the best signature scent for you
Familiarizing yourself with scent families and key olfactive notes is a great starting point—as is understanding which ones work best as “everyday” scents
which work across most occasions and tend to be less polarizing
the same notes can manifest differently depending on how they're employed—so it’s also important to understand a scent's ever-elusive vibe
Is it designed to transport you to the sun-dappled beaches of a private island
Or conjure memories of a rainy day spent indoors
If you're looking for an everyday scent
steer clear of any vibes that immediately read as overly powerful or expressive
This one's simple: If you like how someone smells
You don't need to jack their signature scent wholesale
but compliments have a way of loosening people's lips—and they might put you onto a fragrance that feels more distinctly you.Use the web
if you want few options in the starting lineup once you land on a star player
Ever wondered about the difference between an “EDT” and an “EDP”
It's not actually all that complicated
The primary differentiator comes down to the percentage of perfumed oils used in the product
which dictates how brands classify their scents
we tend to treat “cologne” as a catchall term for any men’s fragrance
the term is just one of many you should know about
Very few fragrances are true eau fraiches these days; those that are classified as such will last for just an hour or two
We tend to refer to the broader category of men’s scents as “colognes," even when they don’t fall in this range
Shop in this range or higher if you want a scent to perform past lunchtime
the translation from French is literally “toilet water”
We promise you'll still smell great.)
This wide range of concentrations makes EDPs the hardest category to predict in terms of longevity and performance
an EDP should be noticeably stronger than an EDT
Parfums tend to be in the 15-30% perfume concentration range
but they can climb up to 40% before a brand switches to “pure parfum oil”
Some extraits and parfums are described as “eternal”—but remember
that’s not necessarily what you should be looking for
The classifications above aren't an exact science
but the concentration levels they allude to are a solid indicator of where to set your expectations
oud smells exactly like you think it would: woodsy
It's a commonly beloved fragrance note for men
but when paired with something sweeter or more floral
it helps to add a depth that's great for all people
What's bitter in taste is actually quite sweet and delicious on the nose
Bergamot offers a fine citrus note that's fresh on the nose
and when it's paired with something like oud
there's a wonderful dissonance that makes you think about your fragrance all day long
vetiver has a distinct smoky aroma to it that's often compared to incense or cigar smoke
The same reason that “leather” is a positive attribute when describing wine
Think more vintage sofa than ratty old handbag though
and that's what you'll get when you douse yourself in this intoxicating scent
which was once harvested from the glands of the musk deer
and it's often described as earthy and sweet
neroli offers more of a “green” tinge than bergamot
so it smells like freshly cut grass that might've seen an accident of spilled orange juice
patchouli is often associated with bad smells
patchouli-forward scents are a complex blend of wood
One of the more floral fragrance notes there is
orris has a sweet flower-like aroma that can be balanced out by some darker
heavier notes to cancel out any reminders of grandma's old perfume
you'll get something that leans more vanilla
Testing colognes is one of the best parts of this gig
Writing for GQ affords me access to new scents as soon as—and sometimes
well before—they hit the market; at any given point in time
my personal collection includes dozens of gleaming
Testing all of them is a full-time job in and of itself
so I keep on ongoing tally of which formulas feel best for which occasions
(You'd be surprised by how many of them don't pass the simplest sniff test
regardless of where I'd wear 'em.)
I kept a particularly close eye on context and budget; not every guy wears cologne the same way or for the same reasons
and the breadth and depth of this list is designed to reflect those differences
I evaluated each winning pick on the basis of its universal appeal
factoring in a mix of opinions from my sources in the fragrance community
to ensure that every scent included here will leave its wearer looking—and feeling—like the absolute best version of himself
to solicit her insights on signature scents and fragrance wardrobes
the best men’s cologne for year-round wear is Le Labo Thé Matcha 26
which imbues a smart and sophisticated formula with a welcome dose of subtle sex appeal
We consider it the platonic signature scent for its four-season versatility
too—it's ideally suited for professional and personal settings
Fragrance notes evaporate over time and aromas can change
so if you're trying a new cologne for the first time
“It’s important to let the fragrance dry-down on skin [before making a final decision],” says Zagwolsky
“Wait a few hours and smell your skin again
If you can imagine yourself wearing this fragrance for a certain occasion or [a specific] mood
What is one underrated fragrance family that men should consider
Zagwolsky recommends trying gourmand fragrances, like vanilla colognes, which are often perceived as cold-weather-oriented. Many vanilla scents, Zagwolsky says, can be worn year-round, too. Look for notes that that make you drool, like vanilla, chocolate, almond, honey, and caramel.

The best sweet smelling colognes are often marketed as female fragrances
why shouldn’t he break down the gender barrier and unleash his sweeter side
As CEO and co-founder of Scentbird, Mariya Nurislamova explains
brands would typically market fruit or floral-heavy fragrances as feminine
whereas scents featuring heady notes like wood
and spices would be considered masculine.”
the key to choosing your favorite fragrance lies firmly in personal appeal and stepping out of your cologne comfort zone
There are three main types of sweet men’s colognes; fruity
Many premium fruit-based scents like Tom Ford’s Lost Cherry and gourmand Black Phantom by Kilian are fragrances with a gender-neutral olfactory appeal. From cherries to chocolate and more
and base notes combine to create a fragrance feast for the senses
If you aren’t ready to go full-on fruity, some of the best vanilla colognes are a great way to experiment with sweet men’s cologne. Technical consultant at Belle Aire Creations

Of all the materials that go in fragrances
vanilla is the most liked globally.”

If the allure of sweet perfume for men aligns with your style this season, let me hook you up with one of my favorite fresh frags
is the designer brand’s debut men’s cologne
At its heart, Jimmy Choo Man is a musky scent peppered with aromatics like lavender and pineapple leaf
the burst of green melon steals the show and provides the blend with its trademark sweetness
Imagine a modern and youthful twist on Bleu de Chanel
Jimmy Choo Man is distinctive but stops short of being cloying
making it a great sweet cologne for the office
you will need a top-up if you plan to take it from desk to date night
suede | Size: 3.3oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Spring
One look at the glossy black bottle, and you could be forgiven for assuming Ralph Lauren Polo Black is a heavy fragrance
Ralph Lauren Polo Black is the top men’s sweet cologne to rock day in and day out
Its bright tropical notes of mango and zesty tangerine are grounded with earthy patchouli
The final product is masculine and mass-appealing
Its sweet and fruity notes are fun and uplifting. I spritz this when I need a morning mood boost. The aromatic citrus notes are ideal for channeling that clean guy aesthetic
it stands out as a sweet cologne that wins over the crowd without trying too hard
tonka bean | Size: 3.3oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Spring
The God of gourmand fragrances, Montale Café Intense, is legendary not only for its rich scent but it’s beast mode longevity

white musk | Size: 3.3oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Fall
As the rhythm of the workday unfolds, your fragrance should be subtle yet distinctive. Swap intense notes like tobacco and leather for elements like sweet fruits and clean musk
Kenneth Cole Reaction is the quintessential choice for the professional setting. Its composition is reminiscent of a vibrant fruit salad. Notes of melon, green apple, lemon, watermelon, and lime merge with the earthy tones of patchouli and the delicate floral touch of lily of the valley, rounded out by the softness of musk and the warmth of sandalwood. The vibe is aquatic
and revitalizing scent that complements the dynamic of a modern workplace
In an office environment, it’s important to choose a fragrance that’s pleasant but not overpowering. Lighter scents are ideal as they’re refreshing without being intrusive. However, it’s worth noting that such scents tend to dissipate more quickly, necessitating a discreet reapplication throughout the day to maintain a fresh aura. Kenneth Cole Reaction is no exception
Something to keep in mind when choosing your bottle size
sandalwood| Size: 3.4oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Spring
If you’ve ever stolen your girlfriend’s high-end shampoo and thought
Sweet and succulent stone fruit notes await you in Jo Malone’s Nectarine Blossom and Honey
From blackcurrant and nectarine to peach and plum, NB&H is bursting with juicy fruits. This summertime scent
While much of the Jo Malone line is unisex
if you can step out of the box of gender stereotypes
you stand to discover some of the top-quality sweet smelling colognes
vetiver | Size: 1oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Spring
I take great pride in being the “fragrance guy” in my friend groups
The one people come to when they want a solid recommendation
“What’s a great cheap scent?”
When it comes to the best sweet smelling cologne that won’t break the bank, the answer is easy. Cremo Spice & Black Vanilla comes in at less than $25 for 3.4oz
Add to this it’s long-lasting formula and its value-for-money rating skyrockets
Cremo Spice & Black Vanilla is one for the guys who enjoy Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille-type scents. It’s not an exact replacement, but it does share similar DNA. With that in mind, this fragrance is a fall and winter staple
But skip it in the summer – the notes are a little heavy for hotter climes
Top Notes: Cardamom | Middle Notes: Cashmere wood | Base notes: Bourbon vanilla
vetiver | Size: 3.3oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Fall
For the luxury-loving lads who want to smell good enough to eat, By Kilian Black Phantom is a devilishly dark fragrance with notoriously good notes
Opening with a boozy blend of pirate-inspired Martinique rum, strong coffee, and a daring bite of cyanide. Chocolate is a prominent element that carries through to the dry down, mingling with creamy sandalwood and something distinctly caramel-like
Black Phantom is a standout sweet men’s cologne that justifies its premium price point. I reserve my bottle for special occasions and winter-time nights out
This stuff is pretty potent; a few spritzes are all you need
and you’ll cross the line from bold to brash
sandalwood | Size: 1.7oz | Type: Eau de Parfum | Season: Fall
Calling all niche cologne enthusiasts
If you like to keep your finger on the pulse of the latest scent trends
This fragrance brand creates genderless scents in vegan and cruelty-free formulas
Ex on the Beach is a sultry blend of warm wood, earthy fig, and uplifting yellow florals. It’s intoxicating yet wearable. After 3-4 hours, the cologne dries down to a sweet woody scent that hugs the skin, much like the most popular pheromone fragrances
Don’t let the name fool you; this isn’t a frivolous beachy scent for summer vacations. This is the best sweet smelling cologne for year-round wear. Ex on the Beach is uber-adaptable from spring to winter and a solid cologne choice for younger guys
orange blossom | Middle Notes: Ylang-ylang
peony | Base notes: Cedar | Size: 1oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Spring
If you’re new to the world of sweet men’s cologne
it’s time to bite into this sweet fruit from Tom Ford
evidently one of the brand’s most hyped releases
I’ll admit, it was my wife who first purchased Lost Cherry. Despite her insistence it was unisex, I dismissed it as a frivolous, juvenile scent before even sniffing it. Then curiosity took over, and I stole a few spritzes. Long story short, Lost Cherry is now in my top 10 rotation and earns me the most compliments from women
It goes without saying the star of the show is cherry. But far from being medicinal and artificial smelling, it’s rich, dark, and boozy. Cherry is flanked closely by bitter almond, creamy vanilla, and spices. This gourmand fragrance is ideal for big nights out and flirty dates. And if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly Lost Cherry alternative
vetiver | Size: 3.3oz | Type: Eau de Parfum | Season: Fall
Hear me out; the best sweet smelling cologne isn’t always the one with the most syrupy notes
But rather the one that knows when to rein it in and refine typically sweet notes into something more elegant and elusive
For the guy that wants to embrace a sweet vanilla scent in a more subtle way, check out Diptyque Eau Duelle – a fragrance masterpiece for modern gents
sophisticated cologne with a masterful vanilla note that reads more light and airy than dollar store body spray
Eau Duelle blends bourbon vanilla with a heady blend of aromatics and delicate spices that hug the skin
The fragrance is cozy and comforting – ideal for intimate encounters and mellow days
cardamom | Base notes: Cypriol| Size: 3.4oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Fall
whereas the best summer colognes are inspired by citrus or marine notes
is the perfect sweet cologne for spring and summer
When colder weather sets in and it’s time to sweater up, budget-buy Cremo Spice & Black Vanilla will keep you warm
If you prefer to keep things more low maintenance
opt for a sweet men’s cologne that’ll carry you through the seasons
Ralph Lauren Polo Black will serve you well come rain or shine
doesn’t mean it won’t last the course
Two sweet men’s colognes with serious staying-put power are Tom Ford’s Lost Cherry and Montale’s Café Intense
Both major players have what it takes to last for 8+ hours on the skin and days on clothing
The reason for this, explains former Quora exec and self-proclaimed perfume maker Tatiana Estevez
is that more expensive products have several layers of fragrance
“the top notes you smell immediately and last about half an hour; the mid notes develop after half an hour for 2-4 hours after that
which is what is left on your skin at the end of the day.”
If you’re looking for a fragrance that packs less of a punch on the nose
deciding what size bottle of cologne to buy depends on the fragrance I’m buying rather than value for money alone
I often go for a larger bottle because these
tend to be lighter scents that need reapplying more frequently
if I’m splashing out on a special occasion sweet men’s cologne
I’ll pull in the reins with a smaller size

National Fragrance Day is celebrated on March 21st. Yes
I realize that's a completely random holiday to observe
but it got me thinking about those iconic colognes and perfumes from the late '80s and early '90s
that's the precise time that I was making the transition from high school to college
That's about the age range where we all start wanting to smell good
I think finding the right scent starts to become important around the same time we start thinking about dating
Part of making a great first impression is making you sure that you don't smell like a landfill
That's where colognes and perfumes come in handy
I was lucky to grow up in an era with some truly classic scents
here's a look at some of the most notable brands for men and women during that time period
We'll start with the guys because that's what my personal experience involves
I am pretty sure I either owned a bottle of each of these or
I spritzed myself with them liberally at the cologne counter at my local Lazarus Department Store
You know you wanted to "feel the power!"
There is no doubt that THIS was the most popular cologne at Daviess County Middle and High School
I bought a bottle of this once primarily because it was made by Christian Dior and I am pretty sure I found it on sale somewhere
I didn't even really the like the smell of it
I suppose I should appreciate the fact that I didn't pay full price
I had two go-to colognes when I was in college at the University of Louisville
Davidoff's Cool Water was one of them
Before you butcher the name of one of my all-time favorite scents
remember that the "J" is pronounced with a "Y." This not "Joop" with a "J." It's "Yoop" with a "Y." It's the fragrant edition of Hooked on Phonics
I may run down to the TJ Maxx later and see if I can find me a discounted bottle of one or both of them
I definitely remember some of these fragrances because of my female friends who basically bathed in them during our high school and college years
Here are five iconic perfumes from the '80s and '90s
Debbie Gibson ruled the pop charts in the late 80s and she had a brief reign at the cosmetics and fragrance counter too
Her perfume Electric Youth was named after her best-selling album and hit song
I had a high school friend (who shall remain nameless) who lugged a bottle of Poison around in her big old purse and crop-dusted herself with it constantly in the hallways of Daviess County High School
She was like the opposite of Pig-Pen from the Peanuts
but it at least it didn't smell like dirt
The commercials for Calvin Klein's Obsession were tiny works of short-film art
they even got famed director David Lynch to helm this one
I'm pretty sure my female friends thought they would be able to summon a Hollywood Adonis if they power-sprayed themselves with this stuff
I am not sure there was a more "80s" brand of perfume than Exclamation
Their marketing campaign encapsulated every single thing we loved about the decade- the music
Everything about this perfume was weird to me in the 80s when my girlfriends were wearing it
Why did anyone ever think smelling like a baby was sexy????
This is my honorable mention for this list
Chances are- if you couldn't afford the real stuff above- you bought the cheap-ass knockoffs from the Kmart
Each year, National Fragrance Day is celebrated on March 21st. Yes, I realize that's a completely random holiday to observe, but it got me thinking about those iconic colognes and perfumes from the late '80s and early '90s.\nRead More

creating a more subtle scent that doesn't overpower others in the same room—a fresher take
“An excellent choice,” said one shopper
“This is perfect—you can only smell it in close proximity
Many other colognes will make the whole room smell
but this is perfect if you want a subtle but classy finish.”
from casual outings to formal events,” said another buyer
“The fragrance is also suitable for year-round wear
although it is particularly well-suited to the warmer months due to its fresh and invigorating nature.”

There’s nothing worse than dropping $100+ on a bottle of cologne only to discover it smells awful
If you haven’t found your signature scent or are hunting around for a new one
these methods of how to get free cologne samples will help you try before you buy
Instead of over-committing right from the start
free cologne samples will allow you to explore the world of fragrance one tiny bottle at a time
If you’re ready to save yourself money (and disappointment)
these are the best methods to finesse free cologne samples
plus some other ways to test out fragrances before purchasing a full-sized bottle
There are tons of different methods to get free cologne samples
The best ways are to visit beauty retailers and department stores to request samples in person
Though if you’re willing to put a bit of work in
many brands and retailers will send free samples if you reach out directly through the website
The best way to get free cologne samples is to visit a beauty store. Cosmetic retailers like Ulta and Sephora often have a large stock of men’s cologne
show them the cologne you’d like a sample of
It’s worth noting that you’re more likely to get a sample at Sephora than at Ulta
and the number is limited to three—though this may vary from store to store
The samples given out are often provided by the brands to promote new products
so you may not have your pick of the litter
and Sephora will offer two free samples with any purchase
You can also subscribe to Ulta’s newsletter
which provides frequent opportunities for how to get free men’s cologne samples
It can definitely be intimidating to visit a beauty store (especially when you’re not dragged in by your girlfriend)
But you’ll quickly find the people who work there are nonjudgemental and full of knowledge
They may even help you discover your next signature scent
You know that scene where Buddy the Elf finds himself in a department store
you’ll know how accurate this scene really is
You’ll also know how many colognes they have on offer
with plenty of opportunities to score free samples
In general, Nordstrom is the best department store for cologne samples
as they’re often the most generous with handouts
and Bloomingdales also have fragrance counters where you can chat up the salesperson for a tester
Getting your sample is all about how you approach the counter
If it’s evident you’re scheming for a sample and nothing more
you’re likely to walk away with only a test strip
But if you’re genuine with your interaction and show that you’re truly looking for a new scent (though aren’t quite ready to commit)
you’re more likely to wind up with a travel-sized bottle to take home with you
It’s worth keeping in mind that samples are often provided by the brand
so if you’re looking for something older or hyperspecific
When it comes to how to get free cologne samples
you can always visit the official website of the scent
Sometimes the brand will have a free sample option that allows you to test out its latest product
you’ll have to reach out to the brand directly to request a sample—especially if you don’t want to pay
Some ways to reach out to brands directly are:
If the brand can sense that you’re eager to try before purchasing
So be genuine with your request and present yourself as a future buyer rather than a freeloader
you probably rifled through your parent’s magazine collection
rubbing yourself silly with the included perfume or cologne samples (No
so hit up some print media for free cologne samples
How to get free men’s cologne samples varies from magazine to magazine and aren’t guaranteed in the first place
Rather than subscribing to multiple outlets and hoping for the best
take a trip to your local drugstore and flip through the options to see what you can find
these free cologne samples are often hidden behind a flap
Subscription boxes are an epic way to stock up on free cologne samples. Whether it’s fragrance specific or a general grooming kit, the best subscription boxes for men often include freebies to help you discover new products
If you don’t mind investing in your fragrance journey, boxes like Scentbird and Scentbox send out a handful of different colognes each month to introduce you to new and boutique fragrances
they often include a coupon code as well if you feel like buying the full-sized product at a discounted price
Already planning on restocking your favorite cologne or grooming products
Sometimes brands will offer free samples with another purchase
this is still a great way to get cologne samples for free
as gift boxes are known to have deluxe samples included with purchase
So keep your eyes open around the holidays to find epic additions to sets you may already be buying in the first place
Wondering how to get free samples of cologne by providing feedback
Writing reviews is a sure way to secure tester products
websites like HomeTesterClub will actually send you a sample product in exchange for an honest review on their platform
HomeTesterClub works with various products (not only fragrance)
you can propose new products to review—like up-and-coming colognes—and may have the chance to receive a sample
Other review websites that have worked with colognes in the past include:
especially when it comes to how to get free cologne samples
The best way to find (and snag) these freebies is by searching for relevant hashtags or keeping up with your favorite brands
This will deliver a boatload of content you can sift through to find compelling giveaways and special offers from brands
tons of companies are promoting sponsored content across social media platforms like Facebook
Most of this content includes freebies that can be redeemed in exchange for filling out a simple sign-up form
Check out the hashtag #sopost on social media to see a collection of these kinds of posts
Macy’s is running a free fragrance giveaway
where those who sign up through the post link will receive a small selection of cologne samples
Other big brands like Tom Ford and Giorgio Armani use similar marketing strategies to capture customer information in exchange for free cologne samples
so this can be a dependable way to stock up on new scents
A last strategy for how to get free samples of cologne is to sign up for relevant newsletters
Both brands and beauty publications send out exclusive offers to their mailing lists
This may take the form of free cologne samples
so this is definitely the best way to stay in the loop
Don’t mind spending a little to get a little
This is where to buy cologne samples to test out new scents without breaking the bank
This fragrance retailer has made serious waves by distributing samples for discounted prices
whether you’re looking for the best men’s fragrances of all time or more boutique scent houses
If you’re looking for a more economical way to score cologne samples
It includes three best-selling mini fragrances for $35 with free shipping and a coupon for $10 off your next order
This is a killer investment if you’re on the hunt for your next everyday scent
We mentioned Scentbird briefly when talking about subscription boxes
but this is also a super solid way to buy cologne samples
It starts with a quiz to discover your scent profile
then you get to choose the colognes you want to try out
you’ll receive a delivery right to your door with an order from your handpicked queue
the samples in the subscription box have up to 120 sprays
which will last you until your next one arrives
You can actually buy cologne sample sets from beauty retailers
These little tester kits are a fantastic way to discover the best of a brand and fall in love with a new scent
Sample sets typically come with three to four colognes in 0.5oz bottles (like this one from Versace)
but some brands will allow you to build your own kit on their website with the samples you really want to try
This is an awesome way to get to know a brand’s cologne line and is easy to stash in a dop kit or gym bag for use on the go
Most popular colognes come in mini versions
If you’re not quite ready to commit to an entire bottle of a new scent
you won’t lose out on $100 and be stuck with a full-sized bottle
For example, this Diesel cologne is available in a mini size of 1.7 fluid ounces (about 50ml)
which is much less expensive than the full 200ml bottle
Travel kits of cologne typically come in sample sizes to adhere to TSA regulations (and to save space in your luggage)
Travel colognes are often much more affordable than a full-size or mini bottle
the 0.3oz to 0.5oz spray is a perfect starter size to ensure you like the scent before going all in
Fragrance counters at department stores often give free cologne samples
Be genuine with your interaction and explain that you’re hoping to test out a new scent before investing in a full-sized bottle
You can get cologne samples on websites like Amazon and eBay
It’s also important to be aware of counterfeit products being sold by third-party resellers
If you’re looking for how to get free cologne samples
it’s best to order them directly from the source
especially if they come directly from a brand

Have you considered switching from traditional perfume to one of the best vegan colognes made using plant-based ingredients
If you’re one of the world’s 88 million vegans or looking to make more ethical choices
then you’ll know that following a vegan lifestyle is about more than what you eat
Many of the best colognes for men use synthetic ingredients
others are created using animal-derived ingredients like ambergris
which affect your body’s hormone balance
Vegan beauty products are free from toxic additives and are kinder to the skin
Like a lot of guys, I suffer from time to time with skin flare-ups. So, not only does my fragrance collection feature some of the best-smelling colognes, but it also includes a carefully chosen selection of vegan colognes
the best vegan men’s colognes often contain fewer allergens
which helps to halt my hay fever and seasonal sniffles in their tracks
The vegan industry is growing, from food and fashion to fragrances. Just ask celeb vegans Travis Barker, Kevin Hart, and the Jonas Brothers, who have all launched vegan companies
Do you want to spritz and spray with a clear conscience so you can feel good while smelling great
Then scroll on and check out my 7 best vegan colognes
I cast my net wide to hunt down the top vegan colognes for men
I scrutinized ingredients and brand ethics to ensure that their green credentials were up to scratch
I can say with confidence that these 7 best vegan colognes are a guilt-free treat for fragrance fanatics looking to make conscious cologne choices
Why it’s great: This vegan cologne is sweet and fruity
With recyclable packaging and an eco-friendly formula
it’s a worthy winner of my best overall vegan cologne title
Better yet, Dark Rum is part of a full range of feel-good fragranced products, from body lotion to roll-on perfume oil. So, if you want to boost your cologne’s longevity
then you can layer it up with its perfumed partners
Who is this for? Dark Rum was love at first sniff for me, and it’s a real compliment-getter. If you like to have fun with your fragrance, then this vegan cologne for men has signature scent potential. I enjoy spritzing this vegan cologne all year round, although I skip it in summer in favor of a more citrusy scent
Flaws but not deal-breakers: Dark Rum is best suited to guys who enjoy sweet scents
Why it’s great: This classic cologne recently turned 25
green fragrances will never go out of style
especially when they cost less than 15 dollars and linger for up to 6 hours
Imagine if Davidoff Cool Water and Creed Green Irish Tweed met somewhere in the middle
If I were to sum up Aspen by Coty in just a few words
it would be “the great outdoors in a bottle.” Well
If you’re a nature-loving guy whose idea of a great weekend is a brisk hike rather than a lazy lie-in
then Aspen is the best vegan men’s cologne for you
Flaws but not deal-breakers: Some guys find Aspen to be soapy-smelling
this is a selling point because I enjoy shower-fresh scents
Why it’s great: Cowboy Kush checks two boxes. Not only is it a sexy-smelling vegan cologne
This is important because there’s a big difference between someone asking
“Are you wearing *insert generic fragrance name here*?” and “Wow
The price tag is a little higher than many of the best vegan colognes
Who is this for? Have you ever found yourself wishing for a dope fragrance that captures the vibe of your favorite herb? With hippy patchouli, animalic oud, and smoky leather, Cowboy Kush smells like weed but better
Flaws but not deal-breakers: Cowboy Kush is an acquired taste and works best for guys who enjoy bold fragrances
Why it’s great: Hawthorne Warm and Aromatic is a masterclass in how to make sweet notes masculine
The cologne opens with an attention-grabbing burst of minty citrus and lavender
which settles into a woody base with a hint of spice
If you’re a Versace Eros guy ready to swap your scent for a vegan cologne
then Warm and Aromatic is your perfect pick
It’s one of the best vegan colognes you can get
Who is this for? There’s a misconception that vegan colognes don’t have staying power. I disagree, and so does this Redditor and Hawthorne fan:
I can’t stress that last part enough
I can put some on in the morning (on my wrists and neck)
and literally still smell a hint of it the next morning
And that’s just with a single squirt.”
Flaws but not deal-breakers: Warm and Aromatic is a youthful fragrance for fun occasions
Top Notes: Bergamot | Middle Notes: Lavender | Base Notes: Tonka
Why it’s great: Has Creed Aventus been sitting on your cologne wish list for a while now
If you’re still not ready to splash the cash
vegan cologne designed to be a dupe of this cult Creed offering
Musky Oakmoss is the perfect way to enjoy Aventus vibes without breaking the bank or spritzing harsh chemicals
Who is this for? Whether you’re a Creed wearer trying to make more ethical choices or an Aventus STAN looking for a budget-friendly alternative, Dossier Musky Oakmoss is a no-brainer
musky dry down that we’ve come to know and love
I’ve owned both the OG Aventus and this alternative
and I would say they’re pretty darn close
Flaws but not deal-breakers: If I’m being picky
then Dossier Musky Oakmoss is a little less pineapple-y than the original Aventus
Why it’s great: Calling all party boys: I just found a hot new vegan cologne for men for sexy soirees
spicy saffron and boozy rum meet creamy vanilla and a dark chocolate base
but it’s the passionfruit that has me hooked
but its ingredients are practically angelic
then spritz on this best vegan men’s cologne before your night on the tiles
Miami Duppy sits on the right side of the line that separates loud from overpowering
Flaws but not deal-breakers: This is a sexy cologne for clubbing and parties
If you don’t have a full social calendar
then you may not get much wear out of this one
Why it’s great: Vince is a classy summer fragrance that smells like the beach at sunset
Picture this: you’re sitting on the sand sipping an ice-cold mojito with the scent of zesty lime and fresh mint filling the air
It strikes the ultimate balance between longevity and projection for a summer scent that’s noticeable but never cloying
Guy Fox Vince is the vegan cologne for sophisticated summer occasions
I love wearing this for a nice dinner with my wife or a garden party with friends
and masculine; it’s a perfect pick for guys on the hunt for a warm-weather wonder
Flaws but not deal-breakers: Although Vince is an Extrait de Parfum (with a high fragrance concentration)
its staying power is more in line with an Eau de Parfum
Choose the right scent for the season, and you’ll master the art of smelling amazing all year round. In fall and winter
your vegan cologne will have to work harder to make itself known
Because colder temperatures minimize projection
You’ll need to choose vegan colognes for men with more intense and rich notes
If you’re on the hunt for a hook-up-worthy scent for summer parties and hot dates, Scotch Porter Miami Duppy is the ultimate wingman
Vegan and cruelty-free aren’t the same thing. Peta explains
“Cruelty-free means that the product was developed without any tests on animals
while vegan means that the product does not include any animal-derived ingredients.”
If you want to take the extra step that to ensure no animals are involved in any part of the creation process of your vegan cologne
You may notice that Coty Aspen is missing from that list
Coty is a cruelty-free brand committed to boycotting animal testing
where animal testing is mandatory in many cases
I’ll leave that information there for you to make your own choice
A quick search for “vegan cologne” will present you with an overwhelming number of options
how did I go about narrowing it down to the 7 top vegan colognes
I homed in on a strict set of criteria to separate the forgettable fragrances from the signature scent potentials
Reviews: Even if you’re a self-proclaimed eco-warrior
a vegan cologne is never going to take pride of place in your scent stash unless it smells amazing
I researched reviews and spritzed samples to ensure that only the sweetest
vegan and cruelty-free surprisingly don’t always go hand in hand
I scrutinized each brand to discover who truly cares about minimizing their impact on the world around us
That’s why my picks go the extra mile and are cruelty-free
Ingredients: One of the best features of vegan colognes for men is that they’re free from toxic chemicals and animal-derived products
I put the ingredient lists of my 7 picks under the microscope to verify that there were no hidden nasties
Mal carefully studied the ingredients used to create natural perfumes
It was no surprise that ethically sourced ingredients are kind to the environment and the skin
it makes sense to include vegan colognes in your scent stockpile
Mal examined countless product labels and packaging to check for terms like vegan-friendly
Satisfied that he’d successfully explored the vegan qualification of countless brands
he got up close and personal to bring you his final selection
What you spray onto your skin absorbs into your bloodstream, meaning that your cologne becomes a part of you. So, Mal tested each vegan cologne directly on his skin to discover how well each one performed regarding fragrance, longevity, and expiration
Not only are the 7 best vegan colognes more ethical and humane than their mainstream counterparts
vegan cologne for men can be just as long-lasting
and compliment-worthy as your favorite classic colognes
My top pick, Malin + Goetz Dark Rum
This noteworthy fragrance is a harmony of ripe fruits
Vegan perfumes are made using zero animal-derived ingredients
vegan colognes are plant-based and contain synthetic ingredients
When you choose one of the top vegan colognes

At this point, you probably have a handle on how the best cologne subscription works. Fill out a quiz, select your scents, and receive travel-sized fragrances. But what sets Debonair apart is the brand actually curates a selection of the best colognes for men based on your answers
they send three different 3-milliliter scents that have been hand-picked according to your preferences
Debonair Scent is the best cologne subscription for men who don’t want to take any chances

When you inevitably fall in love with a cologne from your box
use the $15 monthly discount on a full-sized bottle from the store
It even ships for free—talk about a worthy investment
What’s Included: Three 3ml bottles | Subscription Options: Month to month
The first thing to consider when choosing the best cologne subscription is the size of the samples included
Most cologne subscription boxes come with samples that are between seven and ten milliliters
which gets you anywhere from 75 and 150 sprays
Since cologne subscriptions send out samples rather than full-sized bottles
it’s important to invest in a box that ensures you get bang for your buck
any of the best cologne subscription boxes will send enough fragrance to last for an entire month
You’ll also want to consider the price when choosing the best cologne subscription
Some cologne subscription boxes start at only $10
while luxury offerings can reach up to $40 a month
Similar to most elements in the fashion and grooming world
If you’re looking for a selection of premium
the cologne subscription box will likely be more expensive than those that offer standard
A major perk of the best cologne subscriptions is many offer the first month for half price
Plenty of companies also give out a major discount for buying full-sized bottles
so this is also worth keeping in mind when considering the price
The low monthly subscription cost plus the massive savings on scents can be a worthy justification for the cost of the best cologne subscription box
consider your options when choosing the best cologne subscription because
Many of the best cologne subscription boxes come with different options
whether it’s the type of fragrance you get access to
the number of colognes you receive each month
When considering the different cologne subscription boxes out there
keep your eyes out for the options available
The time has come for the ultimate answer to what is the best cologne subscription
it boils down to what you hope to get out of the box
you’ll be in good hands with any of the picks on this list
The best cologne subscription boxes send out fragrances once a month
with the option to purchase full-sized bottles (normally at a discounted price) whenever you please
When you sign up for a cologne subscription box
it normally begins with a quiz that matches fragrances to your preferences
along with any other colognes you want to try
the cologne subscription will send you the next fragrance on your list
If you haven’t picked out scents ahead of time
most cologne subscriptions will send you their Fragrance of the Month
which is a great way to try colognes you wouldn’t normally reach for
Most cologne subscription boxes allow you to choose the scents you receive for a highly personalized experience
some cologne subscriptions like Debonair Scent and LuxSB pick the scents for you
When searching for a masculine scent, the best leather cologne is a great place to start. Smooth as a sunset, it gives off a subtle, natural musk that’s warm and inviting
a likely scent for both the cowboy and the entrepreneur who portrays a confident man
While it’s definitely an approachable accord
not every men’s leather cologne has the same aura
Leather cologne is best when balanced with other ingredients
and some fragrances pair it with woody or resin notes for a robust
while others use citrus and herbal notes for spicy
Some are light and breezy, while others are sweet and dark or dry and warm. Mellow or lively, the best leather colognes don’t command attention, it attracts it. The ideal scent for your vibe is definitely out there
I took all of the important factors into consideration
when researching the best leather fragrances
Below are the top 7 leather scents money can buy
Because it’s fresh, well-balanced, and approachable, Acqua di Parma Leather won the best leather cologne spot on this list. Like the earthy and floral Malin + Goetz Leather cologne
Acqua di Parma combines citrus and woody notes for a fresh dry down
If smoky and resinous sound more appealing, Molton Brown Dark Leather is also an intoxicating scent
Each leather cologne on this list brings slightly different accords to the table
whether they be floral and resinous or dry
has the most quintessentially rich ‘leather’ smell of the bunch
Inspired by the workshops of Tuscan craftsmen
it’s well-balanced and uses only the finest raw materials and essential oils to create an elegant scent with an absolutely delicious semi-fresh dry down
Toned-down raspberry and leather at its opening smell like clean, well-conditioned leather. Notes of fresh Sicilian lemon combine with cedarwood and guaiac for a refreshingly modern feel
rose petal at the middle gives the leather that silky essence
with the overall effect feeling luxurious yet deliciously approachable
This is the kind of scent that works for everyone
Top Notes: Brazilian Orange | Middle Notes: Honeysuckle | Base Notes: Leather Accord | Size: 3.4oz | Type: Eau de Parfum | Season: Winter, Fall | Suggested Use: Pulse Points
Most often, we think of leather colognes for winter
Dana English Leather shows off leather’s powdery side
It’s a cozy scent that harkens back to the tradition of perfuming artisan leather with custom essential oils
It maintains the balance between earthy and light from the floral lavender and iris throughout
and tonka bean at its base lend the dry down that slightly sexy and musky feel
Top Notes: Bergamot | Middle Notes: Iris | Base Notes: Leather | Size: 4 / 5.7 / 8oz | Type: Eau de Cologne | Season: All | Suggested Use: Pulse Points
then Dior Fahrenheit is it when it comes to the best leather fragrances
it’s a rather niche smell from a big brand
That’s likely due to the burst of violet leaf combined with nutmeg and mandarin at its opening note
Whether you enjoy the petrol-esque blast in the first few minutes of applying or not
Fahrenheit is arguably best in the dry down
where things become woody and floral and in a majestic way
and lily-of-the-valley envelope at the heart
The end result is timeless and surprisingly elegant
It’s definitely a unique use of leather that’s perfect for the unique fellow
Top Notes: Lavender | Middle Notes: Violet | Base Notes: Leather | Size: 1.7 / 3.4oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: All | Suggested Use: Behind Ears

It wouldn’t be a best leather cologne list without a timelessly masculine scent from John Varvatos
Vintage is a smooth and fresh classic leather scent with smoky tobacco and fruity notes underneath for just the right pop of depth
ideal for the sensuous yet mature older man who is as reliable as the woodsy notes residing as its base
Technically a chypre aromatic, Vintage uses cinnamon, basil, and lavender for a clean, spicy aroma. Patchouli and dry oak moss continue the earthy, sensuous feel while notes of tonka bean and suede come through from underneath to make it deliciously smooth. All of that spice, balsam incense, and fruit make this gorgeous scent perfect for spring
Top Notes: Rhubarb | Middle Notes: Cinnamon | Base Notes: Suede | Size: 2.5oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Winter
Things start out sweet with a nutty, airy vibe from notes of hazelnut, chocolate, and roasted coffee beans before mellowing into a sweet and musky dry down. Of course, you have to love the smell to wear it, but its long-lasting aroma is also a major selling point
You can expect up to 12 hours of wear with average projection
which makes it perfect for transitioning from day to night
If you’re searching for the best leather cologne that’s well-balanced and deliciously inviting
Top Notes: Bergamot | Middle Notes: Hazelnut | Base Notes: Leather | Size: 3.4 / 5.1oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Winter
Fall | Suggested Use: Three Sprays On Each Side Of The Neck
Molton Brown Dark Leather is an intense leather cologne
and woody notes to create the feeling of coziness on a brisk night
The fragrance pays homage to the leather making of the 17th century
with its rich scent and aged leather accord reflecting the world’s finest leather in history
This is the most rugged of the best leather colognes
evoking images of smoldering leather and brisk Siberian pine
you’ll find it to be a very enigmatic scent
Top Notes: Warm Elemi | Middle Notes: Tobacco | Base Notes: Leather | Size: 3.3oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Winter
Dry and warm, perfumer Sonia Constant created Ombre Leather in the tradition of the “arid landscape of the American West.” While technically unisex
notes of black leather and green tobacco plus a potent projection smell more masculine to me
it’s easily the best leather cologne for the guy who doesn’t want to smell like anyone else
Green and fruity floral jasmine sambac combined with leather smell absolutely divine. The overall effect is rich and smooth and just a little bit spicy. At its heart, you’ll find a succulent and fruity floral middle. Underneath it all lies a sturdy base of black leather, green tobacco, and wood notes
This scent is long-lasting and makes an impression
Top Notes: Cardamom | Middle Notes: Leather | Base Notes: Amber | Size: 1.7 / 3.4oz | Type: Eau de Parfum | Season: Winter
The best leather cologne uses other accords to bring out the best of this warm
Leather is usually found at the heart and base of the cologne because it adds structure
or floral notes at the top of the fragrance for the most well-rounded composition
if you’re looking for a long-lasting scent
The best leather colognes typically have incredible longevity due to the way the leather clings to the skin
Choosing a scent that will last more than four hours is ideal
and most of the colognes on this list give at least six hours
The best leather cologne is typically associated with winter because it’s warm
leather scents like Acqua di Parma and Dana English Leather pair leather with floral and citrus notes that gel well with the warmth of summer
While every single scent on this list is delicious and inviting, Acqua di Parma Leather is arguably the most approachable
its sweet notes balance out the warmth of leather
smooth dry down lingers on the skin for hours
Leather is a warm smell with lots of natural musk (a classic smell in the cologne world)
It can be smooth and crisp as well as spicy
Leather is easily one of the most approachable smells out there
Leather scents are beloved because of their longevity
You can expect your leather cologne to linger on the skin for many hours

but it also begs the question: Which is the best cologne on Amazon for you
we'd strongly suggest choosing scents sold from the brand itself or “by Amazon.com”—other vendors tend to be significantly less trustworthy
Ralph now sells all kinds of Polo scent remixes, but their proliferation only speaks to the power of the father of them all—the original Polo Eau de Toilette. The woody-patchouli scent, one of the tentpole American colognes, made our recent list of the best men’s colognes, and it’s readily available on Amazon today. (Along with the label’s latest iteration, Polo 67, a fresh, citrus-forward spin on the classic.)
Aesop, the internet's favorite purveyor of delicious-smelling hand lotions, soaps, and other grooming products, also makes some incredible fragrances—namely their smoky Hwyl and woody Marrakech Intense Eau de Parfums. While their supply is often limited, you can score a grip of excellent scents—and a host of other editor-favorite products—that'll arrive at your door in just two days with Prime shipping.
Dior’s cologne roster is stacked, and while you won’t find a verified seller of Sauvage on Amazon at the moment (perhaps for the best, given Johnny Depp remains its face). Which only leaves room to stock up on their deliciously spicy Homme EDT, a soon to be 20-year-old classic, as well as the carnal and leathery Fahrenheit, which is taking its 37th victorious orbit around the hot sun.
The crisp and grounding CK One’s rounded, matte bottle feels as good in your hand as it smells on your skin. One of the great his-and-hers scents, it’s perfect for the pair who likes to share, or the gender-unconcerned buyer who wants to smell like summer on a Grecian isle. As for more explicitly male-tilted scents, the label’s timeless Eternity for Men EDT is a longtime Amazon (and Calvin Klein) bestseller that also lasts a long time on your skin.
Pear-forward Coach for Men was an instant success when it launched seven years ago, and is relied upon by countless men to serve as their uplifting but still modest signature. The projection isn’t the strongest, though wearers who like to impact a room say that reapplying throughout the day helps with that. As for the Coach Man Green spin-off, it was launched in 2023 and offers a spicier alternative to the original.
The nostalgic branding wizards at Vacation have only been so successful because their product performs too, and their two signature scents are no exception. The first, Vacation EDT, captures the coconut-pineapple essence of scented tanning oils from the 1980s, while Aftersun EDT recalls the soothing, calming aloe gel one applies after a day in the sun. Like their SPFs, these scents manage to compete with the best in the game.
While its ubiquity might steer some away, there’s no denying the massive impact 1 Million has had on the cologne market. Here’s your chance to own the oversized gold brick for yourself, or—and here’s where we’d throw down the Benjamins—the half-century-young Paco Rabanne Pour Homme EDT (a timeless, mossy masterpiece).
One of our favorite modern men’s grooming brands, Huron is an unsung hero in the fragrance department. These scents are the same ones infused into many of their best-selling personal care products, but the recently launched Sea Salt + Driftwood is a smash in its own right, while the Citrus + Eucalyptus is supremely centering and fresh.
Since arriving in 1974, Givenchy Gentleman has been relaunched and remixed a dozen different ways, but you can still find the original leathery-patchouli-y offering on Amazon. Ditto for another classic from the label, 2002’s Givenchy Pour Homme, a citrusy-vetiver blend that goes on easy, even for the first-time cologne wearer.
Cali-bred Guy Fox is part of a new wave of American scent makers, and almost all of their offerings are available on Amazon. These are spray-on-your-way fragrances for the Good Time Guy, and a great way to build out your scent wardrobe without dropping a thousand bucks. The woody-eucalyptus Nelson is our favorite, but there’s something unexpected (in a great way) about the floral-herbaceous Mikul.
From pens to watches to wallets, Montblanc doesn’t put its name (or iconic white star logo) on anything until it’s perfected the form.. The brand’s Explorer and Legend EDPs are monsters as standalone scents, of course, but also pair well as a one-two combo—floral and confident Legend for the workday, and warm, leathery, peppery Explorer for the weekend warrior.
Speaking of the best colognes ever: Terre D'Hermès Eau Intense Vetiver made our list too, and is a can’t-fail pick for your next signature scent, not to mention a refreshing departure from the original Terre D’Hermès. Though if staying true to that legendary scent is your desire, Amazon has the pure Parfum edition, which is slightly more grounded and terrestrial than its inspiration. (But no less delicious.)
Maybe you’re not as scent-obsessed as Fragrantica regulars
but that doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from their in-too-deep understanding.)

sophisticated men understand the power of the best patchouli colognes
and a little bit spicy with enough drama to stand on its own
Though it’s most often associated with the free-love era of the 1960s thanks to an earthy
it was once valued as highly as gold amongst early European traders
it’s considered one of the most sought-after notes found in cologne
Patchouli is a flowering herb bush from the mint family native to tropical Asia
It’s an essential note of the chypre accord
the oil produced from its leaves grows deeper and richer with time (newly distilled patchouli has a ‘greener’ smell)
it’s actually a dynamic and highly versatile ingredient
I love it because it’s sexy without being overwhelming
Something about the naturally musky earthiness feels inherently masculine but in a subtle way
the best patchouli scents are inherently warm
so they work best on the skin during the cooler months of the year
certain patchouli colognes can thrive in the heat of summer
Whether it’s the star or performing backup, some of the best-smelling colognes for men contain patchouli
and no one understands this better than the noses behind one of the best patchouli colognes
Explorer was brought about by three of the world’s top perfumers and their expertise on a particular ingredient
The result is a durable crowd-pleaser that is ready to become your daily signature

it’s the best patchouli cologne for mature men
Top notes of rum and tangerine aren’t necessarily fresh, but definitely uplifting. Patchouli lies at the heart, alongside incense that adds depth, and cedar that gives it a camphorous and dry, earthy, smell. Think fresh pencil shavings. Patchouli and vanilla is a truly timeless pairing
but Dark is Night shakes things up by smelling tailor-made
and with just the right amount of patchouli
Yummy is the best way to describe the combination of woody patchouli, sweet freesia, and vanilla combined with spicy vetiver goodness. It’s an alluring, sexy scent ideal for the young guy setting out on an evening of innocent and well-intentioned debauchery. Perfect for Winter
Founded in 2019, Henry Rose is a transparent fine fragrance collection by OG babe Michelle Pfieffer. It’s a newly trending brand, but Dark is Night already possesses a following. With conscientiousness and transparency in mind, all of the scents are Cradle to Cradle certified and EWG-verified

It wouldn’t be a patchouli list without more than one polarizing scent
And it wouldn’t be a ‘best of’ without the critically acclaimed Le Labo
only to reveal a soft cuddly teddy bear on the inside
Like a relaxing bonfire under a starry sky, it’s a woody and chypre cologne, with smoky leather notes akin to a barbeque. If that leaves you head scratching, just wait for the soft sensuality of the vanilla in the dry down
It’s here that the scent becomes irresistible
Patchouli is absolutely necessary, but it’s subtle. Here, the peaty, boozy, and smoky side of patchouli is on full display, and boy is it a compliment garner. Women seem to love this scent. Because it’s potent
and “filled with danger,” it needs the cooler months to really open up
But if you’re into standing out from the crowd

expect to shell out several hundred for the best patchouli cologne for men
A perfect compliment to warmth with a slight creaminess
vanilla is a common ingredient found alongside patchouli
Fresh citruses and boozy notes only enhance the woodsy fresh earthiness of this chypre ingredient
Because patchouli is woody, warm, and a little bit spicy, it’s inherently seasonal. Experts say it’s best between the months of Fall and Spring. Ideally, the best patchouli colognes are suited to the shoulder months, although combining the note with cooling citrus and even woods like cedar make it appropriate for hot and sticky Summer (See Eau So Vert)
The best patchouli cologne on this list came out to be Mont Blanc Explorer because of its wildly popular and relatively simple scent
it starts out fresh with citrus notes and warms into a patchouli and vetiver delight

The Most Wanted Parfum by Azzaro claims the title of the overall best cologne for men
This fragrance is a testament to audacity and charisma
designed for those who aren’t just part of the game but set the rules
The scent journey begins with the luxurious warmth of Bourbon vanilla
This is seamlessly intertwined with an incandescent wood accord
The heart of the fragrance pulsates with the spicy kick of red ginger
Parfum is the most long-lasting of all the fragrance formulations. Azzaro The Most Wanted Parfum proves this point perfectly. I still smell the scent on my skin after 12+ hours, but one Amazon reviewer boasts

When it comes to the most long-lasting colognes, French fragrance house Montale excels. Premium, Parisian, and somewhat niche
Montale is my go-to brand when I want a scent with out-of-this-world longevity
I thought I had smelled the best the brand had to offer until I visited the Boutique Montale in Milan this summer
When I asked the consultant to recommend a power-house scent with staying power
Rich, spicy, and fruity, Oudmazing is no run-of-the-mill cologne. Here, oud is a top note rather than a base note
then enhanced with a creamy vanilla and leathery musk base
Now let’s talk about what you came here for; longevity. Put it like this, 42% of Fragrantica reviewers voted this scent lasted 7-12 hours
Another 36% voted that it lasted 12+ hours
I can vouch for them; I have showered and still smelled this on my skin

Spring is the transitional season that weans us gradually off dark
Montblanc Legend is one of the best spring fragrances
as it has notes that nod to both summer and winter
The opening is a summertime-ready combination of tropical pineapple and aromatic bergamot
The heart is a sweet juicy surprise with notes of red apple
which are countered with masculine tonka bean and sandalwood
No particular note overwhelms or fights against the rest
Neither too thick nor too heavy, Montblanc Legend is one of those crowd-pleasing scents that seems to smell good on just about anyone. If you’re searching for a great spring fragrance that’s a safe blind buy

As the days stretch out longer and cold winds turn into balmy breezes, it’s time to rotate not only your wardrobe but also your cologne. When the moment comes to dip into the best summer colognes in my “library,” Byredo Sundazed is my first pick
Sundazed is sparkling and bright. The type of scent that brings a smile to your face after a long, cold winter. The mandarin and lemon opening offers a mouthwatering, zesty punch closely followed by neroli and jasmine. The base features an unexpected cotton candy note alongside white musk
I know what you’re thinking. “Cotton candy, this must be a women’s fragrance, right?” Nope, Sundazed, like much of the Byredo range, is unisex
Female users report more gourmand sweetness in the dry down
male wearers pull out the citrus and musk notes more
This pick may not be the best men’s who lean towards serious alpha male fragrances
but rather for guys who like to have fun with their scents

Terre D’Hermes separates the boys from the men and the men from the gentleman. It’s an outright manly scent that’s dominant, classy, and grownup. That’s not to say that Terre D’Hermes is only suitable for formal occasions. But still, this isn’t a jeans and sweatshirt type of cologne
The opening of this Hermes fragrance is a citrusy combination of orange and grapefruit. Not the sweet juice of the fruit but the tart white pith. As the fragrance develops, the peppery notes come through. The vetiver joins the party early, followed by patchouli and cedar
Vetiver is a note that performs well in winter
that’s why fall is the perfect time to make the most of this top men’s cologne
Regardless of season, though, Terre D’Hermes lasts a long time on the skin for an eau de toilette. We’re talking around 8+ hours without a top-up, which is what makes Terre D’Hermes one of the best fall colognes

Yves Saint Laurent Y EDP undoubtedly stands out in all these aspects
I admit, this YSL fragrance holds a special place in my collection as I received an engraved bottle from my wife for Christmas
As much as I wanted to preserve the cologne for sentimental value
and spicy with fresh green herbal notes of apple
Woodsy scents tend to have the most staying power
Day to night, relaxed lunch, office party, to every occasion I wasn’t sure which cologne to choose, I reached for YSL Y. It never once steered me wrong. The harmonious blend of notes play out as well in spring and summer as they do in fall and winter, garnering me compliments whatever the weather

When Tom Ford launched his brand in 2005, he shocked the uptight fashion and beauty industry with bold, daring, and downright sexually explicit fragrance campaign shots. Ever since, Tom Ford colognes have been the go-to for men looking to celebrate their deep, dark, sensual side (and good-smelling side)
Tuscan Leather is the epitome of the Tom Ford brand in a bottle. It is the best men’s who want to go hell for leather, pushing boundaries with their scent. Drake even named a song after this fragrance and famously said it “smells like a brick of cocaine.”
combining leather with black suede and birch wood notes
The composition resembles a real leather jacket
Thanks to the berry florals, Tuscan Leather is a leather cologne that is suitable for the day and night but undoubtedly works best in fall and winter
If you’re the type of guy, who loves to hate mainstream colognes, look away now. Whichever way you look at it, Creed Aventus is an accomplished scent with a cult following. According to Creed, “this scent has grown to become the best-selling fragrance in the history of the brand.” It’s a natural choice for the best men’s cologne of all time
When this Creed cologne was first launched in 2010
fruity opening was a groundbreaking use of pineapple
Thanks to the large number of copycats that followed
this combination might not be revolutionary
The sweet fruit-filled opening is grounded with musk, oakmoss, amber, and vanilla

You’re either the guy that has a closet-sized cologne collection or buys a single bottle a year. If you’re the once-a-year guy, then you need a cologne that can carry you through the seasons seamlessly. Enter in one of the best Versace colognes
Versace Eros has joined the likes of Dior Sauvage and Creed Aventus as one of the top men’s colognes to buy. Fresh, green fragrances for men are very popular

A good musk cologne is tricky to master and finding one that smells fresh and clean rather than dated and powdery
Versace Pour Homme Dylan Blue is the best cologne for men who are lovers of musk
reminiscent of a freshly laundered white shirt
The musk note sits in the base alongside incense
The best musk colognes should give the impression that you just stepped out of a steamy, soapy shower. Versace Pour Homme Dylan Blue ticks that box. It’s fair to say that Bleu de Chanel is responsible for starting the blue fragrance craze. More than that, though, Bleu de Chanel is the king of the citrus cologne category
this top men’s cologne has reinvented citrus
Bleu de Chanel is a true representation of the luxury design house’s aesthetic; timeless
One of the key notes in the opening is mint
Not loud mojito cocktail mint as in Versace Eros
but rather a fresh mint plant growing wild in the Mediterranean
The citrus element comes from grapefruit and lemon
which are spiced with pink pepper and ginger
The base is a masculine concoction of vetiver, cedar, sandalwood, patchouli, and white musk. This makes this Chanel scent one of the few citrus colognes that work well in the nighttime and chillier months

You could even look for brands like Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel
who offer some scents in 0.5oz travel-size sprays

From there, avoid the billboard bull about how a particular cologne can make you buff, irresistible, or manly. When it comes to the scent of attraction, find ones that make you feel like a better version of yourself. From there, the trick is to choose the right fragrance for the occasion.
The best place to apply cologne is to the pulse points and around 3-6-in away from the skin
Don’t rub the cologne into your skin
When you choose from the top men’s colognes
you don’t need to go heavy; remember
aim for around 2-4 sprays to prevent overpowering everyone in your neighborhood
The best time to apply cologne is fresh from the shower when your skin is clean and dry
Pulse points are warm and help to project the cologne
and the extra heat from your body will project your scent making it way more likely to be smelled
make sure to spritz it on both your skin and your clothes
avoid spritzing to close to your collar and neck
This will help avoid irritating the freshly shaven skin

At around $15 per 3.3oz bottle, it’s the ultimate budget-friendly fragrance for men not looking to splurge on a new scent
As with all Body Shop scents, the Vanilla Mist is unisex but does lean on the sweeter side, so it’s a scent for young guys
Notes: Vanilla | Size: 3.3oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Spring
Can’t survive the day without multiple cups of Joe
it’s not just the energy boost I get from a steaming cup of coffee but the creamy
imagine you get to carry that scent with you all day without suffering a caffeine overdose
Let me introduce you to Maison Margiela Coffee Break
Don’t worry; coffee and vanilla are not all this unisex cologne have to offer. There are enough refined notes in the blend that you won’t be left smelling like your girlfriend’s candle. Pepper, orange blossom, patchouli, tonka bean, cedar, and vetiver
Gourmand, creamy, spicy, and woody with a hint of florals, Coffee Break, is casual, relaxed, and inviting. It’s the perfect fragrance for fall and the best vanilla cologne for weekends spent kicking back with your favorite people
vetiver| Size: 3.4oz | Type: Eau de Toilette | Season: Fall
If you want your cologne to go the distance, you need one that combines the sweet scent with other powerhouse notes. No note is more enduring than Middle-Eastern oud
Maison Francis Kurkdjian Oud Satin Mood is mysterious
and if you hang around enough high-end haunts
I guarantee you’ll smell this scent on the city’s elite
Oud Satin Mood is in my top three all-time longest-lasting colognes, and I’m not alone. A staggering 82% of Fragrantica users who reviewed Oud Satin Mood experienced 7-12+ hours of wear
this scent isn’t for the faint-hearted
which explains some of the more traditionally feminine notes
Yet it’s ideal for confident alpha males who refuse to go unnoticed
benzoin | Size: 2.4oz | Type: Eau de Parfum | Season: Winter
Vanilla is one of the most expensive ingredients in the world. Lucky for you and your wallet, though, not all the best vanilla colognes carry an eyewatering price tag
From cheap and cheerful The Body Shop Vanilla Mist to reasonably-priced Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb Extreme
there’s a vanilla perfume for most budgets
splash the cash on Maison Francis Kurkdjian Oud Satin Mood or cult-cologne Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
these best vanilla colognes are worth the splurge
One of the biggest hitters in the long-lasting league is Maison Francis Kurkdjian Oud Satin Mood
Following hot on its heels is Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille
What both of these fragrances share are their warm and spicy notes
and their oils evaporate more slowly than colognes with a floral or fruit base
So it’s good to consider when choosing a long-lasting vanilla perfume
Like to switch your scent up at night and don’t want your daytime fragrance lingering behind
I used to think sweet and spicy gourmand fragrances were all about fall and winter
and some vanilla perfumes smell just as good in the warmer months
A stellar scent for summer is fruity Coach Platinum or clean and fresh Chanel Allure Homme Sport
Their blend of lighter top notes makes them warm-weather-ready
it’s time to switch up your scent to something that can withstand the cold
So reach for my head-turning go-to’s; Maison Margiela Coffee Break and Valentino Uomo Intense

NJ — A South Jersey bakery is asking customers wearing strong perfumes or colognes to use the drive-thru
And it's not just for enjoying the smell of fresh doughnuts in the morning
Century Bakery in Bridgeton shared the request last week on social media
noting concerns for their employees' health
"Several cashiers in our bakery suffer from asthma
and this time of year can be particularly challenging for them due to the high pollen count," Century Bakery said
"The addition of strong fragrances can make it even more difficult for them to breathe
"Please note that these fragrances tend to linger in the building even after you leave
which can lead to coughing and discomfort for our team members," the business continued
"While they are attentive to their health by covering their coughs and maintaining hygiene
we appreciate your understanding in keeping comments regarding coughing to yourselves if you choose to enter the building wearing heavy scents."
Strong scents and certain chemicals in perfumes, colognes and even deodorants can trigger or worsen asthma symptoms, according to the American Lung Association
Several people reacted positively in replies to Century Bakery's post
especially the fact that I know I can walk into your store and feel safe," one commenter wrote
"My mother has terrible asthma and the smells get to her too
They also can send her into a coughing fit then people around her look at her like she is sick," said another comment
