“I’m not going to stop until La Decima is won,” Florentino Perez said in June 2011
That 2002 Champions League title was Madrid’s ninth in total and third in five seasons
Thanks to six successes in its early days — Madrid won the European Cup’s first five editions between 1956 and 1960
as well as in 1966 — the Spanish giants were already the competition’s record holders
But as Perez spoke at the event at the Bernabeu
and La Decima — a 10th trophy — was proving problematic
Madrid fans had been frustrated by several early exits, which were often quickly followed by coaches being sacked. European defeats could even bring about a change of president — Perez’s first term ended in February 2006, soon after a 1-0 home defeat by Arsenal in the last 16

Real Madrid and Florentino Perez: A portrait of one man's ultimate power
Ramon Calderon was elected to the position the following summer
“I wouldn’t say (La Decima) was an obsession
but it was a dream and an objective,” Calderon tells The Athletic
have always considered the European Cup as ‘our competition’
but there’s an obligation to win it every year.”
Perez returned that summer and Madrid spent more than €200million (£170m; $217.5m) on new players including Cristiano Ronaldo
Kaka and Xabi Alonso — all Champions League winners at their previous clubs
the longing for La Decima had become difficult to handle for everyone at the club
Even big stars were affected by the pressure and tension
Madrid lost their last-16 first leg 1-0 at Lyon but looked in control of the tie when Ronaldo made it 1-1 on aggregate after just six minutes of the return match
Then nerves began to spread in the stands and on the pitch
The visitors started to dominate and deservedly progressed thanks to Miralem Pjanic’s strike with 15 minutes left
fantastic players and the final that year was at the Bernabeu,” ex-Lyon coach Claude Puel recalls
“It was difficult for us as we went 1-0 down early
and came back into the game with high intensity and good possession
I was surprised to see this (Madrid) team losing their quality
The following year, Madrid again made the last four, this time facing Bayern. Two Ronaldo goals in the first 14 minutes of the second leg put them 3-2 up on aggregate, with energy surging through the Bernabeu — yet nerves set in again. Arjen Robben equalised and Bayern won 3-1 on penalties, with Ronaldo, Kaka and Sergio Ramos missing their spot kicks
Mourinho’s third campaign saw La Decima hype crank up again after a 3-2 aggregate win over Manchester United in the last 16, but a 4-1 semi-final first-leg shock defeat at Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund meant a 2-0 second-leg victory was not enough
“It’s not easy in the Champions League,” ex-Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez says
“The (Dortmund) tie left a bittersweet taste
Mourinho had instilled a more competitive streak in the squad
but he left that summer with his relationship with many players
Since their ninth Champions League success in 2002
more than €1billion had been spent on players
but La Decima seemed just as far away as ever
Mourinho’s replacement was Carlo Ancelotti, who had won the Champions League twice as both a player and coach at AC Milan
Ancelotti and his assistant Paul Clement were left in doubt of the importance of their new club’s European pedigree
“I realised how big this was going to be when (we entered) the boardroom where, along one side of the walls, were nine European Cups, all lined up,” Clement told The Athletic in 2020
“They hadn’t lined up all the other trophies — the leagues or cups
Also new that summer was Gareth Bale, signed from Tottenham Hotspur for a world-record €101million
“I’ve already learned how to say ‘La Decima’,” Bale said at his presentation
in front of a backdrop of photos of him as a kid wearing a Zidane-era Madrid kit
Ancelotti’s side were top of La Liga and into the Copa del Rey final against Barca
“I’d prefer to win La Decima,” Ramos said before that month’s La Liga Clasico
Schalke were beaten 9-2 on aggregate in the Champions League last 16
Bale and Ronaldo scoring twice each in the second leg at a gleeful Bernabeu
The quarter-final first leg was an easy 3-0 win at home to Dortmund but
Madrid scraped nervously through the return
There was more tension before the semi-final first leg
The only goal came through a counter-attack finished by Benzema
Nerves in the second leg fell away after Ramos scored two first-half headers
and a Ronaldo brace completed an impressive 5-0 aggregate win
Now the Decima hype was really mounting, especially as Atletico Madrid beat Mourinho’s Chelsea in the other semi-final
Ancelotti’s team took just two points from their final three league games
with everyone at the Bernabeu focused on the Champions League decider in Lisbon
“We’ve spent years trying to win this trophy,” Ronaldo said ahead of the final
“From the very first day we arrive at this club
we feel positive pressure to win the Champions League
with the opening stages stop-start and error-strewn
Madrid only half-cleared an Atletico corner and Juanfran returned the ball towards the penalty spot
Casillas decided to come for it but then started to backpedal furiously as Diego Godin’s header soared over the stranded goalkeeper
the momentum was all with Ancelotti’s side
Bale’s 100th-minute close-range header made it 2-1
Marcelo soon surged straight through an exhausted defence and finished triumphantly
really,” Marcelo told The Athletic in 2022
everything that has happened since you were small
Ronaldo won and converted a penalty to complete the scoring
He celebrated bare-chested in front of a camera
and the images later appeared in his personally financed biopic
“This is so huge, even bigger than the World Cup,” said Casillas that night (and he knew, having captained Spain to the World Cup in 2010)
“So long without having a final like this… La Decima
“La Decima was an obsession for the club and the fans,” Modric said a few days later
But mostly the same players won three more European titles with Zidane as coach from 2016 to 2018
“Nobody expected them to win three Champions Leagues in a row
It’s a competition Madrid have always been good at
but recently they’ve been more than good at it.”
The mood when Madrid played in Europe had swung around completely
fans and directors being frozen by the Champions League anthem
Benzema and Bale generally reserved their best form for the competition
raising their game as a gleeful Bernabeu crowd would chorus: “We are the kings of Europe.”
Others who arrived along the way, such as right-back Dani Carvajal
I’ve only had to experience success,” Carvajal told The Athletic this week
GO DEEPER
Real Madrid just know how to win the Champions League. Man City do not
“Winning that trophy (La Decima) was very important
to keep building the legend of a team that keeps looking for victory until the referee blows the final whistle,” Calderon says
(But also) the team being made up of very good players has been the base for achieving all the success that followed.”
During the long wait between 2002 and 2014
each Champions League season brought more pressure and more disappointment for Madrid
everything changed for the club’s emotional connection to the competition
bringing four more trophies in the following nine years
“We’ve a very vivid memory of the 2014 final,” Ancelotti said in a recent press conference.
“That’s where this generation began to win titles. Many of the same players are still there, along with youngsters who are stepping up.

Horizon Forbidden West is easily one of the most beautiful and visually impressive games out there
It’s because of this that I’ve been praising Guerrilla’s Decima engine for years
and while I’m certainly not unique in doing that
it does now feel like more people are catching on
The upcoming Death Stranding 2: On The Beach recently unveiled its release date
dropping new gameplay footage alongside this
What you may not be aware of is the fact that the Kojima Productions sequel is actually using Guerrilla’s engine
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is once again being made in Decima
But what does this have to do with a Horizon Forbidden West sequel
and Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is providing the most up to date look at what the engine is capable of
The last title released that was created using Decima was the aforementioned Burning Shores DLC in 2023, so Guerrilla has had two years to refine and advance the engine with Death Stranding 2 evidencing the end result
You can take a look at the new trailer for the game below
the upcoming third and final horizon should share Death Stranding 2: On The Beach’s level of graphic fidelity - something which is garnering praise across social media
“I hate Unreal Engine 5 more than most, with good reason. To me it's VRAM management and Nanite are the only redeeming qualities in current versions. Decima with DS2 manages to get great geometry here without having to use UE5 and Nanite, and I hope we see more of this,” wrote Twitter user mpr_reviews
“Decima engine is not f**king around bro,” added medster101
Studderz_Savage tweeted
“The Decima engine needs to be the standard instead of that s**t UE5.”
I’ve been itching for Guerrilla to unveil its new Horizon entry for some time
but Death Stranding 2’s graphics have only left me more hyped
so too have they got me counting down to DS2’s release date

Marcelo laughing with his hands together and Sergio Ramos's goal behind | Real Madrid Confidencial FIRST TEAM Marcelo Heats up Real Madrid - Atlético With an Unforgettable Anecdote From La DécimaThe former Madridist shares an anecdote that will sting a lot among Atlético fans04/03/2025 15:50:00h by Borja Díaz
Real Madrid and Atlético face each other this Tuesday in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16
A duel in which many consider the Colchoneros as the big favorites
the truth is that the Champions League is a very different competition
Any detail can be key to tipping the balance one way or another
The former captain of Real Madrid and legend of the white team has wanted to take part
And he has done so by heating up the classic with a very painful anecdote for all the Colchoneros
Marcelo crying with all his titles behind him | Real Madrid ConfidencialThe night before
And Marcelo wanted to give him a very special gift
"the jersey from the Champions League final against Atlético is ugly."
Marcelo stated that he had doubts between the Tenth and the Eleventh and finally opted for the latter
the one from Lisbon was "a double joy." Especially because of Sergio Ramos's goal and everything that was happening at that moment
Marcelo was on the field and recounted that "I saw Sergio Ramos's goal in slow motion
unbelievable." But the best was yet to come when he narrated what was happening at those moments
Atlético's fans are going to be very affected after the anecdote he revealed
Sergio Ramos heading the goal of La Décima | RealMadridConfidencialHe admitted that "I saw a lot of Atlético people opening champagne
he reiterated that "it was a motivation to see them opening the champagne too early." They already saw themselves as champions
but Ramos's goal brought them back to reality
Broncano pointed out that he saw that in the audience
but Marcelo replied that it wasn't in the stands
and at the moment of opening the champagne
was when Sergio scored in the 93rd minute," he indicated
That's what happens when you celebrate something too early
Whether that is with his on-field or off-field antics
he will likely have you fuming if he is not wearing the jersey of the team you support
The Spaniard has angered fans further with his last social media stunt regarding La Décima. Ramos is never bored of bringing up the famous moment, the year Los Blancos captured their tenth Champions League/European Cup
Ramos scored the 90+3' minute equalizer to send the final into extra-time against rivals Atletico
Ramos posted the famous image of his headed goal on Instagram
A post shared by Sergio Ramos (@sergioramos)
Ramos also posted a cartoon image of him with the FIFA World Cup Trophy
rival fans targeted him for the image of him scoring against Atletico
"This guy takes every opportunity to poke at the wound; it's mind-blowing."
It comes a few months after Ramos chose the No.93 squad number when he joined Monterrey
the minute when he scored in the famous Champions League final
He also recently celebrated his 39th birthday
he turned the numbered candles around to read 93
A post shared by Sergio Ramos (@sergioramos)
with plenty of love shown underneath the social media posts
There is no sign of him stopping the stunts

Others claim it was christened by boatbuilders for the Duke of Bronte
who supposedly sourced timber from its chestnut forests for his fleet

“I really wanted to find another historic vineyard,” she says of Monte Ilice
I wanted to do something with that same fil rouge of history and heritage but with a red wine
Monte Ilice was owned by this wonderful farmer

Spadaro Mulone is part of a newer generation of makers – and one of a handful of women – working in and around Sicily’s oldest denomination: Etna DOC
Etna is like no other wine region in Europe: its borders range from 400m to 1,000m
depending on whereabouts on the volcano you’re standing
The differences in soil composition from one contrada to another can be huge; likewise

and often bakes in the 30s in July and August)

who partnered with Alberto Graci on Etna in 2016
Nor is Spadaro Mulone the only one making exceptional wines outside the confines of the DOC; here
a days-long eruption spewed lava a thousand metres skyward from Voragine crater
and tonnes of ash settled across Etna’s south and eastern flanks
the flow didn’t go in our direction,” says Spadaro Mulone
“And actually there’s an upside in that there’s a huge quantity of new
was that the airport closure [at Catania] meant tourists weren’t able to reach parts of the island
including us.” She’s referring to the new canteen at Monte Ilice

He RegretsJosé Mourinho spoke about Real Madrid in an interview for Corriere dello Sport31/12/2024 22:00:00h by Sergio Iglesias
José Mourinho's been one of the most prominent coaches in recent years at Real Madrid
He might not have won as many titles as Zinedine Zidane or Carlo Ancelotti. However
he was able to sow the seeds of success that the club continues to collect
He won a record-breaking LaLiga with 100 points
he was able to break the hegemony of an FC Barcelona that dominated Spanish soccer with an iron fist
Mourinho brought out that character that was hidden in a historic club.
José Mourinho during his time as coach of Real Madrid
| Real Madrid ConfidencialThe moment of his exitAfter spending three years at Real Madrid, Mourinho understood that his time had come and decided to return to Chelsea. A decision he still regrets today
as he confessed in an interview with Corriere dello Sport
The Portuguese coach has reviewed his entire career
highlighting his best moments and those he would relive to change. That's when Real Madrid comes into play
we always think we could've done it differently. And I lost many games"
José Mourinho spoke about his next goals in the world of soccer
in addition to mentioning those coaches who don't know how to win.

José Mourinho regrets the day he decided to leave Real Madrid
"I want to compete in a European or World Championship

Guerrilla had built their reputation on Killzone

the engine can be used to pour it all into something end users can enjoy
While many gaming companies turn to third-party
jack-of-all-trades-style engines to fuel their games
it’s not unusual for developers to build their own engines to fit the exact games they want to make
But Guerrilla’s process is slightly different
The company actively rebels against the urge to specialize too much
allowing itself the space it needs to maneuver into new territory
“Sometimes I look at someone else’s engine
and I think: that does the exact thing you want it to do way more than ours does
I wonder if we should’ve done it that way,” says Van der Leeuw
“We tend to make things that can do more than just what we need in the moment
because we’d already built this relatively complex engine
we want to use our first-person shooter engine to make an open world game
we were in a position to say: that’s a lot of work
Ambition has always been a part of Guerrilla’s core
the product of a fusion of three small Dutch game studios – Orange Games
Digital Infinity and Lost Boys Games – who hoped to become more than the sum of their parts
They adopted the name Guerrilla three years later: it fit their rebellious attitude
“We were willful and cocky,” Van der Leeuw remembers
“There was no games industry to speak of in the Netherlands at the time
Yet we wanted to become a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.”
He’d worked on the game Jazz Jackrabbit 2 with Dutch gaming pioneer Arjan Brussee
When their Orange Games became a part of what would be Guerrilla
Van der Leeuw came with it – and so did the engine code he had written for Jazz
It’s hard to picture the zippy green rabbit with his too-cool-for-school red bandana and Killzone’s grim soldiers or Horizon’s viciously beautiful machines living in the same galaxy
let alone as things made of the same stardust
“I should check the current engine code sometime and see if there’s anything left over from Jazz
Guerrilla redoes large swathes of its engine with every game
and they often find a new purpose for old systems
“Horizon and our last Killzone game Shadow Fall were essentially the same code but using a different folder of assets in the beginning,” Van der Leeuw notes
can leave the large plains of the open world behind to explore underground caves
Horizon Zero Dawn turns into a Killzone-esque corridor shooter
Have they ever seriously considered using a third party engine
our company attracts a lot of inventor types
it’s important to feel like we’re in charge of what we’re going to do next.” Being dependent on a third party’s development trajectory for anything is something he finds difficult: “You think: this third-party service we’re using isn’t just going to disappear
gets bought up by Zynga and Zynga pulls the plug
It’s a reminder that sometimes it’s just better to make things yourself.”
Guerrilla has shared it with several studios linked to their parent company Sony
including Supermassive Games’ efforts for the PlayStation VR
“Inventor types like us don’t just like to make things
Sometimes you don’t get anything back but thanks – that’s also nice
But sometimes you find someone who’s on the same track
anyway: it’s the mindset of the maker that matters.”
He credits that as one of the principal reasons why the company steadfastly refuses to limit its engine’s scope
“It can be tough to discuss new insights in a company with an employee base that’s made up of extremely specialized people,” he says
“Because there might be no one else who’s an expert in the same field.” Sharing with outsiders can help create sounding boards for new ideas
Though when that outsider is legendary Metal Gear Solid-director Hideo Kojima
When Kojima joined Guerrilla’s parent company Sony
he and his team had no technology to work with: they’d had to leave it all behind
It led them to Decima – Guerrilla named the previously nameless engine in honor of the partnership
picking a name that referred to the Japanese island of Dejima
once the focal point of Dutch trade relations with the Japanese
“We gave them the engine as a show of good Sony citizenship
it would have felt rude not to share,” Van der Leeuw says
“But we didn’t expect to have this much chemistry with a studio from the other side of the globe.”
Kojima’s upcoming Death Stranding —release date unknown — is set to be an open-world action game
Its development has been shrouded in secrecy
fueled by a series of mysterious trailers featuring Hollywood actors
Cooperation between Kojima and Guerrilla has been “intense”
says Van der Leeuw: both companies communicate daily
as the Death Stranding team attempts to shape its own worlds with Decima
in what order gameplay elements should go,” he says
they think photorealism is far more important than we do.”
The studio is always thinking ahead about what the next iteration of the engine will look like
The quality of the code base is most important to us.”
Willful ambition has been core to Guerrilla’s philosophy from the very beginning
The company believes that the ability to change when necessary is vital: For two years
Horizon’s concepting team tried out different things without giving in to the temptation to lock into an overarching experience
Guerrilla will continue to change gameplay systems whenever they get in the way of the player’s experience
And that process requires an engine that supports it
that’s paramount to us,” says Van der Leeuw
“The creative side of our game direction is ever-changing

The Guernica Hall of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) -in the provincial capital- hosted an exhibition of Illustrated Tenths and Landscaping in this new edition of the Cucalambeana Day
Cuba - This festival of the peasantry opened with exhibitions by authors from different communities from all over the Las Tunas territory
to show the beauty of the countryside and the richness of its traditions
With the attendance of the Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso Alonso Grau
accompanied by the highest authorities of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and the Government in the province
the awards ceremony for the competition in which the plastic arts and the décima converge was held
the artists reflected their vision of our countryside
pictorial pieces where beauty and verse converge as an inseparable binomial
was the winner with his stanza "Al amparo de la sombra," together with the illustrator Ángel López González
who tried to show the value of everything that surrounds us and not to leave the past or what could have served us at some point in time for the modern
the work he has created since he was 23 years old
and now he feels it is time to bring it to light
to show his poetic skills and perhaps achieve a certain renown
One of the laureates for landscape painting was Pedro Jesús Ávila Arias
who considered that an explanation of the painting would take away its meaning when the spectators themselves can feel and appreciate the liveliness of the palm
which at different times of the day comes to life in an unparalleled way
The island's natural beauty and the imprint of the authors are reflected in each of these art pieces

A novel system developed by MIT researchers automatically “learns” how to schedule data-processing operations across thousands of servers — a task traditionally reserved for imprecise
Doing so could help today’s power-hungry data centers run far more efficiently
Data centers can contain tens of thousands of servers
which constantly run data-processing tasks from developers and users
Cluster scheduling algorithms allocate the incoming tasks across the servers
to efficiently utilize all available computing resources and get jobs done fast
humans fine-tune those scheduling algorithms
based on some basic guidelines (“policies”) and various tradeoffs
code the algorithm to get certain jobs done quickly or split resource equally between jobs
But workloads — meaning groups of combined tasks — come in all sizes
it’s virtually impossible for humans to optimize their scheduling algorithms for specific workloads and
they often fall short of their true efficiency potential
The MIT researchers instead offloaded all of the manual coding to machines
they describe a system that leverages “reinforcement learning” (RL)
a trial-and-error machine-learning technique
to tailor scheduling decisions to specific workloads in specific server clusters
they built novel RL techniques that could train on complex workloads
the system tries many possible ways to allocate incoming workloads across the servers
eventually finding an optimal tradeoff in utilizing computation resources and quick processing speeds
No human intervention is required beyond a simple instruction
Compared to the best handwritten scheduling algorithms
the researchers’ system completes jobs about 20 to 30 percent faster
and twice as fast during high-traffic times
the system learns how to compact workloads efficiently to leave little waste
Results indicate the system could enable data centers to handle the same workload at higher speeds
“If you have a way of doing trial and error using machines
they can try different ways of scheduling jobs and automatically figure out which strategy is better than others,” says Hongzi Mao
a PhD student in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS)
“That can improve the system performance automatically
can save millions of dollars and a lot of energy in data centers.”
“There’s no one-size-fits-all to making scheduling decisions,” adds co-author Mohammad Alizadeh
an EECS professor and researcher in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL)
these are hard-coded parameters that you have to decide up front
Our system instead learns to tune its schedule policy characteristics
depending on the data center and workload.”
Joining Mao and Alizadeh on the paper are: postdocs Malte Schwarzkopf and Shaileshh Bojja Venkatakrishnan
data processing jobs come into data centers represented as graphs of “nodes” and “edges.” Each node represents some computation task that needs to be done
The edges connecting the nodes link connected tasks together
Scheduling algorithms assign nodes to servers
But traditional RL systems are not accustomed to processing such dynamic graphs
These systems use a software “agent” that makes decisions and receives a feedback signal as a reward
it tries to maximize its rewards for any given action to learn an ideal behavior in a certain context
help robots learn to perform a task like picking up an object by interacting with the environment
but that involves processing video or images through an easier set grid of pixels
the researchers had to develop a model that could process graph-structured jobs
and scale to a large number of jobs and servers
Their system’s “agent” is a scheduling algorithm that leverages a graph neural network
commonly used to process graph-structured data
To come up with a graph neural network suitable for scheduling
they implemented a custom component that aggregates information across paths in the graph — such as quickly estimating how much computation is needed to complete a given part of the graph
because “child” (lower) nodes cannot begin executing until their “parent” (upper) nodes finish
so anticipating future work along different paths in the graph is central to making good scheduling decisions
the researchers simulated many different graph sequences that mimic workloads coming into data centers
The agent then makes decisions about how to allocate each node along the graph to each server
a component computes a reward based on how well it did at a specific task — such as minimizing the average time it took to process a single job
is that some workload sequences are more difficult than others to process
because they have larger tasks or more complicated structures
Those will always take longer to process — and
the reward signal will always be lower — than simpler ones
But that doesn’t necessarily mean the system performed poorly: It could make good time on a challenging workload but still be slower than an easier workload
That variability in difficulty makes it challenging for the model to decide what actions are good or not
the researchers adapted a technique called “baselining” in this context
This technique takes averages of scenarios with a large number of variables and uses those averages as a baseline to compare future results
they computed a baseline for every input sequence
they let the scheduler train on each workload sequence multiple times
the system took the average performance across all of the decisions made for the same input workload
That average is the baseline against which the model could then compare its future decisions to determine if its decisions are good or bad
They refer to this new technique as “input-dependent baselining.”
is applicable to many different computer systems
“This is general way to do reinforcement learning in environments where there’s this input process that effects environment
and you want every training event to consider one sample of that input process,” he says
“Almost all computer systems deal with environments where things are constantly changing.”
a professor of computer science at the University of Wisconsin at Madison
whose group has designed several high-performance schedulers
found the MIT system could help further improve their own policies
“Decima can go a step further and find opportunities for [scheduling] optimization that are simply too onerous to realize via manual design/tuning processes,” Akella says
“The schedulers we designed achieved significant improvements over techniques used in production in terms of application performance and cluster efficiency
but there was still a gap with the ideal improvements we could possibly achieve
Decima shows that an RL-based approach can discover [policies] that help bridge the gap further
Decima improved on our techniques by a [roughly] 30 percent
their model is trained on simulations that try to recreate incoming online traffic in real-time
the researchers hope to train the model on real-time traffic
they’re currently developing a “safety net” that will stop their system when it’s about to cause a crash
“We think of it as training wheels,” Alizadeh says
“We want this system to continuously train
but it has certain training wheels that if it goes too far we can ensure it doesn’t fall over.”

Segundo aniversario de la 20ª Copa del Rey
Se cumplen 39 años de la 2ª Copa de la UEFA
3-2: El Madrid gana y continúa luchando por la Liga
The youngest will not remember it, because they did not suffer from it, but Carlo Ancelotti began to make his mark in the history of Real Madrid in the spring of 1989
Carletto was then a struggling midfielder for Arrigo Sacchi's AC Milan
and he opened the scoring in the greatest mockery suffered by Los Blancos in the European Cup: AC Milan's 5-0 win at Stadio San Siro in the 1988/89 season
There were other defeats in the history of Real Madrid
but that one was especially cruel because it buried the Quinta del Buitre
a generation of footballers who skirted the seventh European Cup but failed several times
although never in such a way raw like that night in Milan
Ancelotti beat Francisco Buyo at the San Siro and opened a wound that took a decade to heal
until Predrag Mijatovic scored past Angelo Peruzzi at the Amsterdam Arena in May 1998
but also the Decima: from Zinedine Zidane's volley in Glasgow to Sergio Ramos' unstoppable header in Lisbon
Ancelotti was on Real Madrid's bench at the Estadio da Luz
after coming to the club at the beginning of the season to facilitate the digestion of the intense Jose Mourinho era
The Portuguese brought Real Madrid closer to the Champions League
but it was the Italian who grabbed it by both ears
with a Real Madrid so different from the current one that it is dizzying to remember
a Gareth Bale who still prioritised the big ball over the golf ball
a Sergio Ramos more aware of football than Yucatan
with Marcelo and Isco (the ones who changed the flow of that final in the capital of Portugal) initiating the ascent to the peak of their careers
preceded by the Copa del Rey after the derailment of Marc Bartra against the express train called Bale at Mestalla
but Luka Modric got injured and left Real Madrid without a compass
with the shock of Xabi Alonso's escape to Bayern Munich
with Manchester United's blank cheque to Di Maria
and Real Madrid lost their way in the fight for LaLiga Santander with two defeats at San Mames and Camp Nou after leading the table for 15 matchdays
it was the European elimination that buried Carletto
A surplus Real Madrid (that won 3-0 against Liverpool at Anfield and Chicharito's goal to eliminate Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals) was defeated by Juventus with two goals from Alvaro Morata
and forever left the doubt of whether Real Madrid had been able to win five Champions League titles in a row
because then Zidane's three successful Champions League runs arrived
but Zidane is now the past and Carlo is the future of Real Madrid
Now the question is to know if his 'soft hand' will serve to stiffen a team - and a club - that is more ready for a revolution than for good vibes

During an interview at Reboot Develop today
Guerrilla Games co-founder Hermen Hulst talked a little bit about how the collaboration with Kojima Productions on Death Stranding came to be
Death Stranding, of course, uses Guerrilla Games' proprietary Decima engine
Hideo Kojima took a big trip to many development studios to study how they work
Kojima's work has obviously only been on internally-developed engines, including the Fox engine created for Metal Gear Solid 5
The last stop on his trip was to The Netherlands
It was initially intended to be a quick visit
but Hulst says they ended up spending a couple of days together
let's just give Kojima Productions our source code on a stick and offer it to them,'" recounted Hulst
"They just couldn't believe that a studio like us would just hand that to them
The honest reason was just for them to make a game
The idea that we can enable a studio of that calibre to make a great game
In fact, prior to offering the engine, Guerrilla Games didn't even have a name for the tech. Hulst and Kojima came up with the word Decima, which is the name of an artificial island in the bay of Nagasaki
the Decima island (also called Dejima) was built in 1634 as a home for Portuguese traders; Japan's way of limiting their influence on the country
The Dutch later moved to the island in 1641
making it Japan's only trade port with the rest of the world
Hulst also revealed that a team from Guerrilla Games engineers would go on missions to Tokyo to help Kojima Productions with engine support
sometimes embedded in teams at the Japanese studio
Guerrilla was able to improve the engine based on regular conversations the Dutch team has with Kojima Productions

Studio Technical Director at Guerrilla Games Michiel van der Leeuw
who's been with the studio for almost the entirety of its 23 years of existence
has recently published a detailed LinkedIn post
revealing some interesting information regarding the developer's proprietary game engine Decima
van der Leeuw announced his decision to step down from his position as Guerrilla's Studio Director
intending to "wear one hat at work" and focus more on the development of Decima
the studio's engine used for such titles as Killzone: Shadow Fall
as well as Supermassive Games' Until Dawn and Kojima Productions' Death Stranding
the developer revealed that the studio has "ambitious future plans" for the engine
saying that "a studio roadmap and future direction for the Decima engine [are] so ambitious
that combining both is more than one day job."
van der Leeuw published a list of job positions for those interested in joining the Guerrilla team:

LinkDeath Stranding’s engine could be called Decima, based on a logo spotted at the end of its newest trailer
Although the logo’s significance has caused a debate among fans of director Hideo Kojima
the man himself tweeted a video that suggests that Decima is nothing more than the engine Death Stranding is running on
YongYea, a YouTuber who covers all kinds of games on his channel, uploaded the video above, recapping theories about the trailer. Alongside analyses of the posters Kojima Productions shared subsequent to Death Stranding’s trailer premiere at the Game Awards
The name Decima comes from Greco-Roman mythology; she’s one of the three Fates
Decima in particular measures a person’s “thread of life,” which YongYea notes is an appropriate choice for Death Stranding
“Some of Death Stranding’s biggest themes include things like the rope and the stick and threads that connect all living things,” he says
there’s nothing that connects us mortals more than the singular fact that we all die at the end.”
Kojima has cited the philosophical concepts of the stick and the rope among Death Stranding’s key themes. He tweeted a discussion of these and other themes earlier this year
explaining that “the stick helped ape evolve into man,” while “the rope helps us capture and bind important things to us.”
the thread of life-measuring Decima is a perfect fit
Both YongYea and journalist Michael Fortsch
cite sources that the engine is customized for Death Stranding
“Just got told that Decima is the name for the modified Sucker Punch Infamous: Second Son Engine Death Stranding is using,” Fortsch wrote Thursday night
and Fortsch himself insisted that it was just a rumor
We’ve reached out to Kojima Productions about the engine and will update when we hear back
Either way, YongYea notes that the engine appears to be the same as the one powering the game in its debut E3 2016 trailer. After Death Stranding’s premiere at Sony’s press conference this past June, Kojima said that he had yet to settle on an engine
It looks like Decima is it for the undated PlayStation 4 game
On the bustling Death Stranding subreddit, theorists insist that “Decima isn’t just the engine.”
“Thinking about Decima, my mind continues to harken back to the Moby Dick bait-and-switch back with [Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain] but I can’t think of a reason why Kojima would do that again ON HIS OWN GAME,” wrote calrissian69
This seems unlikely, but with Kojima, anything is possible. The director has given few concrete details about Death Stranding, including the name of its engine at this state in production. A panel hosted by the industry veteran and unannounced “special guests” at this weekend’s PlayStation Experience may be more illuminating.

Boulez” Sunday at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum wrapped up the three-part series with Debussy never before heard as we experienced it
the series continued to be something of a rare bird
and more hands came to together to laud both pianist and gifted young violinist Corey Cerovsek and rightfully so
Pierre Boulez’s Deuxième Sonate pour piano and Béla Bartók’s Improvisations on Hungarian Peasant Songs
20 made for another astonishing round of three leaders out of the past century
20 be improvisations if all eight of them are written down
Paavali Jumppanen helped answer that by rendering them as if they were just being pulled out of a magician’s hat
Dissonances transformed by Jumppanen’s ever developing pianistic imagination contrasted remarkably with the pianist’s singing narratives of the highly varied Hungarian tunes on which Bartók based his extemporaneous musings
Whereas last week Boulez’s Troisième Sonate pour piano reached for the stars and rocketed into galactic wonderment
his Deuxième Sonate churned on lofty yet terrestrial surfaces
both vertical and more especially horizontal
was yet to become integral to the serialist’s mathematical penchant
Although I must say that as the fourth movement that came with a bang and a whimper
that latter passage left me experiencing desolation
it remains somewhat incredible that given all the “destruction” of traditional forms and devices
Boulez relied not infrequently on the crescendo and even decrescendo so typical of the Romantic Era
seated at a lidless Steinway in the midst of Calderwood Hall
All of some 30-plus minutes of extraordinary pianism and equally extraordinary genuineness rang out be it in a single isolated note or in handfuls of tone clusters
some of the latter had notes pedaled into vanishing points
Jumppanen truly furthered Boulez’s cause from super-delicacy to superpower
take for example the first movement marked extremely rapid
where his big sweeps conflated myriads of tonal
rhythmic and dynamic detail giving a larger dimension so often missing in the realm of those mathematician-musician composers
Comments from other listeners went along similar lines
While meaning and emotion in the Boulez eluded us
Jumppanen’s firm grasp of this sonata—one that for an overwhelming number of pianists is simply impossible to play—constituted a major feat
unspooled as a verifiable masterpiece in the hands of Cerovsek and Jumppanen
Cerovsek’s finely fixated violin along with Jumppanen’s captivating touch proved blockbusting
Violin and piano spoke as if made for each other
tenderness and many more moods shifted in a cocking of the ear
They would have been gloriously on the same sheet had they not been playing from memory; their synchronicity sent us right over the edge
this week brought multihued encounters with the human interiors of the third kind

David Patterson has hit the nail on its head with the review of Paavali Jumppanen and Corey Cerovsek
To have all three Boulez sonatas in the fingers and mind in three weeks is an amazing task
the Boulez sonatas can be difficult listening
Jumppanen took us into these diffuse worlds as well as anyone
I’m not sure I will ever hear a performance like this one
I am not prone to “definitive” performances
different approaches by excellent musicians are certainly valid
The fact that both players were “off music” and in constant synch with the many moods of Debussy’s last work was an unusual and truly satisfying experience
What wonderful concert series the Gardner has given us: Miriam Freed/Jonathan Biss in Bartók/Schumann
isabelle Faust and Alexander Melnikov in the complete Beethoven violin/piano sonatas
Comment by Leslie — March 6
After agreeing fully with Patterson’s praise of this concert
I’d like to draw attention to the uncanny ensemble of Jumppanen and Cerovsek
There were many passages in the Debussy that were highly rhythmic and accented; there was never the slightest difference between them
I remarked to my wife that it was as if one brain had controlled the four hands

the debut game of Hideo Kojima’s new development studio Kojima Productions
developed by Horizon Zero Dawn studio Guerrilla Games
The news was announced earlier today at PlayStation Experience
during an interview between Kojima and Geoff Keighley
Since April 26, he has scored six goals—five of them coming in a four-game stretch and two of which put Bayern Munich to the sword in a 20-minute spell during Real Madrid’s 4-0 Champions League victory in the Bavarian capital.
It was a win that put Los Blancos into the final of the European Cup for the first time since 2002, and you just knew that if the nine-time winners were to secure a 10th continental title—La Decima—it would be thanks, at least in part, to the heroics of the 28-year-old defender.
and that he hit peak form late in the spring—and late in second-half stoppage time of Saturday’s Champions League final—only spoke to a sense for the dramatic that had long been associated with the Spain international
after completing a €27 million move to the capital during Florentino Perez’s first stint as club president
he set up Gonzalo Higuain for a last-minute winner away to Osasuna that clinched the Primera Division title
In January 2009, he even struck a spectacular, volleyed goal that helped Madrid to a 3-0 win over Mallorca
But on Saturday, when his club needed him desperately, he both remained on the pitch and delivered the blow that sent a feisty Atletico Madrid side wobbling
With only a minute remaining on the referee’s watch and with Atletico about to celebrate a first-ever Champions League triumph
Ramos popped up to head a Luka Modric delivery past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for the equaliser
Madrid never looked back, and at the final whistle, their 4-1 victory almost looked comfortable—the subsequent goals coming from Gareth Bale
Squawka“What was most important was to get the equaliser,” Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti told reporters following the match
“We didn’t have any space—Atletico defended very well—but we tried every way possible
We managed to [equalise] and then the game changed completely.”
It was he who made six interceptions and 13 clearances during extended spells of Atletico pressure
who rose to the occasion with the European Cup—with La Decima—beckoning for Real Madrid
That’s why Sergio Ramos is a favourite of the Madridistas
followed by goals from Marcelo in the 118th and Cristiano Ronaldo in the 120th

decided a reconstruction of the company's board room was the best way to show what the Kojima Productions version of Decima can do

but I assume that's just what it looks like naturally:

Kojima likened his studio's collaboration with Guerrilla Games to the evolution of the space program
and called the modified version of Decima a rocket that would take them farther than anything before:
4/4We decided to make the rocket by reforming their engine. And by doing so it enables us to go to the mars but even to the jupiter. pic.twitter.com/E5x8FHlVQDDecember 10, 2016
I'll take any Death Stranding info I can get

holding a pod baby that may or may not be from another dimension

The Italian coach says he will never forget the historic European title conquered by Real Madrid five years ago
Former Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti
who conquered La Decima for Los Blancos five years ago
has spoken about the historic European title
“I remember it very well and I will ever remember it
It’s something I just won’t be able to forget,” says the Italian manager
We knew what was at stake and we were so motivated
but we used the pressure we had and turned it in motivation to face the game,” he explained
Real Madrid missed Xabi Alonso while Karim Benzema
Sami Khedira and Pepe were all questionable hours before the game
“We got there with Khedira, who had just recovered from a serious knee injury, Pepe, Benzema and Ronaldo all struggling. I remember very well what Pepe did for us. The day before the game he told me that he wasn’t ready to play because he would have needed to come off in the 15th minute as his knee was hurting so badly. It’s not easy for a player of his caliber to say good-bye to a unique chance of playing a Champions League Final
but he proved he’s a true pro,” reveals the coach
Ramos scored the equalizer on the 93rd minute but Ancelotti never lost his faith
“I don’t think about what’s going to happen on a certain play but I had confidence that the goal was going to arrive
It was our last chance but I trusted my players and I knew that they were going to take advantage
We played until the very end and the very last second
We looked for the equalizer playing good football and in the end Ramos and Modric showed up,” adds Ancelotti
Until that very moment Atletico still had a chance but they kind of gave up after that goal,” concluded the Italian coach
Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso says he decided the time was right to leave Real Madrid after last season's Champions League triumph
Madrid's extra-time defeat of Atletico Madrid in last May's final saw them finally secure La Decima -- their 10th European Cup -- after 12 years of waiting
believing it to be best to finish his five-year spell in the Spanish capital on a high
"After beating Atletico in the Champions League final, it seemed as though the time had come to do something different again," AS quoted Alonso as telling FIFA.
Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid last season to win the Champions League. Michael Regan/Getty Images"We had managed to win La Decima, Madrid's long-awaited 10th European Cup, and I thought it was right to try something new with one of the world's best teams and in one of Europe's top leagues. I was grateful to Real Madrid for letting me go even though I had a contract that was due to run until 2016."
Now at Bayern, Alonso has the chance to achieve something only former Netherlands international Clarence Seedorf has ever done before -- winning the Champions League with three different clubs.
The midfielder, who has also won the trophy at Liverpool as well as with Madrid, is aware he could achieve such a feat but would rather concentrate on playing well for his club.
"Winning the Champions League with Bayern would be fantastic but my priority is to continue doing my job on a weekly basis and contribute to the collective success of the team in whatever way I can. But it appeals to me," Alonso said.
"I have the most amazing memories from the 'Miracle of Istanbul' where [Rafa] Benitez led Liverpool back after going 3-0 down, to pull level at 3-3 then into extra time and penalties, which we ended up winning 3-2.
"I was also delighted with the masterstroke [Carlo] Ancelotti pulled last year when we beat Atletico in extra time. Unfortunately I was suspended for that match after picking up my third booking in the second leg in Munich. But I still played my part in what, for the time being, is the most recent major success I've been able to celebrate in my career."
It was Pep Guardiola who brought Alonso to Bayern from Madrid last summer, and the 33-year-old says the chance to work with the former Barcelona boss was something that appealed to him.
"There were many good reasons to move to Bayern and Pep Guardiola was definitely one of them," he said. "I immediately realised how Guardiola's unique intensity has enabled him to achieve so much in his relatively short career. To be able to learn even more about football under his guidance is incredibly motivating and offers a great challenge.
"He's a rigourous thinker and worker; he's very analytical, a great tactician and a methodical innovator. Pep understands everything about the game. He doesn't force his way of thinking on the players; instead, he convinces us about his ideas. If you manage that as a coach, you know that your players will push themselves even further and fight even harder for the team's shared goals."
‘La Decima’, the tenth, a dream, turned obsession to create history, to take a step further at being the club with the most glorious history in the entire continent. No one is alien to Real Madrid’s extravagant tenth European title win on May 24
For the first time in the history of the competition
two sides from the same city met in the finals to decide the best club in Europe
It was the Copa del Rey winners against the Spanish league champions
All that only made the game much more anticipated as figuratively the whole city of Madrid was in Lisbon that night
While the game’s every incident is frame-locked inside Madridista minds, what went behind reaching that all-important final win is what constitutes the story of La Decima
The club’s last European title was 12 years back in 2002
a thunderous Zinedine Zidane volley and a classic three saves in a row from Iker Casillas that sealed La Novena (the ninth)
It was evident that a lot had to be changed
The club’s Champions League campaigns were limited to the Round of 16 stages six times in a row through 2004/05 – 2009/10
A range of iconic players either left the club or retired
when Florentino Perez returned for his second spell as president
something that remains the backbone of La Decima
Two of the iconic signings, as we know today, were monumental goal-wise. Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema were brought into the club in the summer of 2009 and then began a mission
whose management brought home the tenth European title
It kick-started another fine spell of Madrid domination on European Football as the club would then go on to win another three titles in the next four seasons
The match, as already stated needs no reminder. We remember Sami Khedira being called on to replace the injured Xabi Alonso, Casillas’s error in judgment to give Los Rojiblancos the lead in the 37th minute, and Sergio Ramos’s ’92:48’ towering header to equalize and then the Madrid Tsunami which followed
The game ended in a comfortable 4-1 scoreline but little does that scoreline show how dangerously anxious the times were with that clock ticking down to full time and the team still trailing to that Diego Godin finish
But as it was the night would end with Iker Casillas getting the first hand on the tenth European Cup for Los Blancos
La Decima was a monumental win for Real Madrid
It went on to challenge every single unwritten rule against obsession and prove that to be obsessed for the right reasons does take you a long way
With the pressure of winning a tenth European title off the shoulders
Los Merengues seemed much more comfortable in the seasons that followed
They went on to excel under the management of former Madrid man
As it is the obsession didn’t only limit itself to that win
it helped the club bond a band of players into a band of brothers
It kick-started the development of partnerships like that of BBC
the very popular Madrid trio up front of Bale
Things that served the club way beyond a tenth European win
Today on the seventh anniversary of that historic La Decima win
we can’t help but play the highlights video over and over again and hear the commentator close the evening perfectly saying

It sounds like that's far from the end for this engine. As part of a management shake-up at Guerrilla Games, technical director Michiel van der Leeuw has announced he will be working on Decima full-time. In a LinkedIn post
van der Leeuw says he'll be focusing on "our ambitious future plans for our own Decima engine"
He says the team has "crafted a studio roadmap and future direction for our Decima engine so ambitious" that it now requires his full attention
Of course, we don't know what that future direction looks like, but we can hazard a guess that more PS Studios may move onto Decima going forward. It could also elude to developing tools that allow the engine to be used for online service games, which is obviously a strategy that's in the pipeline at PlayStation
imagining how the engine could improve is pretty tough; the results are already incredibly strong
having produced some of the most technically impressive open world games to date
Assuming Guerrilla and PS Studios will be moving to PS5-only development in future
it seems likely that Decima could be at the heart of some of the console's best-looking titles within a few years
[source linkedin.com]
Stephen has been part of the Push Square team for over six years
bringing boundless enthusiasm and a deep knowledge of video games to his role as Assistant Editor
Having grown up playing every PlayStation console to date
He's also our go-to guy for Sonic-related matters
The engine is clearly amazing so I'm taking this as good news
I'm actually curious if it's usable in different kinds of games - both in terms of genre and aesthetic
Just finishing off Death Stranding Directors Cut and that’s a damn pretty game
Looking forward to seeing what they do with it
Wasnt until dawn and shadowfall also on decima
It would be smart for Sony to have one universal engine for all their studios
I don't mind more studios using the Decima Engine but I hope it won't be a mandate like EA did with Frostbite
if not let them choose what's best for their games
@AinsleyE This
While it's good to get the most out of a fantastic engine
I don't want majority of AAA games to only rely on a handful of engines
GoW uses its own propriety engine that Santa Monica developed
and it looks and plays like a dream - with its distinct stylings - I wouldn't then want future titles moving over into Decima or UE5
We don't want games looking homogenised visually
Sony Bend apparently using the Decima engine for they’re new game
Sony seem to be learning from Capcom and getting a lot of they’re studios to use the same engine
It's a great engine I would like to see in other games
in terms of hiring and getting people up to speed quickly
It makes more sense now why Angie Smets is taking a "head of development strategy" role
From what's rumoured there's at least 4 Horizon projects in the works from either Guerilla or other studios.1
And Horizon 3.So it's likely that their on the Decima engine
so having people who are familiar with the tech in upper management roles to liaise with the studios should help with the development pipeline
Makes me think about how Kojima's "Fox Engine" would have looked like after so many years of learning to optimize & use the full potential
Decima was also used for Until Dawn which also looks great
@PSXDave Me too
I feel like KJP managed to adapt Decima into something that even looks like it was made in the FOX engine
If nobody told me it was actually Decima I would have thought they’d somehow licensed FOX from Konami
I wasn't a huge fan of horizon: forbidden west when tried it on ps5 - the open world and story just didn't grab me
the detail of character models and animations/presentation during conversations with NPC's
This was made all the more impressive by the fact that the game was running at 60fps in performance mode
The decima engine is absolutely fantastic and I would welcome it's use in more titles from PlayStation studios
If the Zero Dawn remaster is a real thing that's pathetic
I hope they can figure out a better solution for the in flight pop in issues
It was very jarring in the burning shores dlc
@Al3 GTA though is a game all about
freedom and chaos with activities and wanted systems
Horizon is telling a particular story in its characters and world
if you had Aloy just randomly killing innocents and people reacting with horror then it doesn't fit with who she is or the story their telling
Zero Dawn and Forbidden West are both among my favorite games
They're exceptionally beautiful and the control over Aloy is fantastic
I absolutely have my fingers crossed that we'll be able to see this engine used in a wide variety of other open world games in different settings
just keep it fresh with new stories and characters
Death Stranding sells the Decima engine to me
I know it’s unpopular in some circles to say
but Horizon does Ubisoft better than Ubisoft top to bottom
but DS is totally unique though and a showcase that the engine is capable of making different styles of games
It goes to show the engine could be used in all different capabilities for different genres
Let’s see it used in a multiplayer experience or horror or any other genre and see what it can do
but I also don't want to see too much homogenization
But it's absolutely a fantastic looking engine with excellent performance to boot
@KundaliniRising333 I agree about a remaster
It looks better than GoW2018 thanks to the engine
Looks better than a lot of "native" PS5 games
There's absolutely no reason to "remaster" a game that's still for sale and still beautiful
This min-max idea that a game only matters if it's newly launched with the current most state of the art graphics is bizarre
@Americansamurai1 Not necessarily
remember when EA tried to standardize on Frostbite and it caused more harm than good
Capcom's been standardizing on REngine though and it's been going well
It depends on what the engine really does well and what its weaknesses are
@NEStalgia yeah true
the engine would have to be very versatile
Be curious to see if any new games will be announced using it
You can say allot of things about the writing in Forbidden West but one thing that's not debatable is that is an absolutely gorgeous game
as good as you're going to see on any platform
let Studio decide what works best for their vision
It is one more option for them - not shoehorned on everything
Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica have their own engines and I'm not sure what Insomniac and Bungie use
I'd like to think that between the options available in house that all PS Studios would be able to use what makes sense for the game and have the help available to make it work
They are upgrading the engine to make better use of the PS5 hardware
I expect? They've got to leave the PS4 hardware behind
and I say that as a PS4 Pro with SSD owner 'cos at the moment
@sanderson72 Burning Shores already introduced some of that and I'd definitely expect more new technical features in the future
I think most of Sony's other recent titles would be a better basis for future output
Horizon might be Sony's prettiest game but all of their other recent titles feel better to play
don't have the same issues with bugs that Horizon has
@Americansamurai1 No multiple engines really opens up a variety of projects to choose from
and there are lots of learning opportunities
@Infern0 I don't know about that
Maintain separate engines requires more capital and time
They should take the best of all of their internal engine and have one universal engine
proves that with Horizon and its an open world game!
@JB_Whiting that wouldn't be the case
We're not going to see ND or Santa Monica ditch their proprietary engines and we're not gonna see Insomniac ditch theirs either
They've come a long way and that's what makes owning a PS good
the fact that their games mostly play different and you get differing high quality experiences
PS studios will use what works best for them and this is not EA
Frostbite was used for almost everything because it was already established
was expensive and most importantly for the studio heads
it wouldn't make sense to get their other studios to work on creating an engine as they usually release on a yearly or bi yearly basis
Same reason why MLB has a sucky engine that looks like it's been barely updated since PS3 days
Well considering that unreal 5 has come out and with the new technology within that
surely they are taking notes and changing the engine to get the best outcome
Plus has any first party studios released anything with Ray tracing
apart from spiderman and rachet. We all have to remember no games from First party apart from rachet
Not counting burning shores because I believe that was made for ps4 to begin with
I'd rather there be a heterogeneous array of engines being explored rather than a single
allow new engines to be built upon the foundations of the old
it could get to be quite worrying if things like
physics end up feeling almost identical across half a dozen games or more
The water and under it is amazing in Horizon FW
Would be so cool to see a Sony studio making a pirate game
It's not a bad idea as gamers are starting to notice a distinct "unreal" look to games
Having another engine around that can deliver a different look and specifically takes advantage of the PS5 architecture can only bring good things
@JB_Whiting yeah
they created an engine specifically for GoW 2018 and then refused for ragnorök obviously
I wonder what the future holds for that franchise
Naughty Dog also has their own engine so no
I would be shocked if they required anyone to use Decima
@Loamy I would hope all their studios engines are being updated
Especially the way data is steamed because that ssd is fast
It's kinda crazy when you consider that most of their studios have created in house engines and they all are tailored to what the studio goes best
I loved the inFamous games but I did not see GoT coming
They really improved that engine and created something truly fanatic
the new uncharted game with the Decima Engine would be interesting
i'm sure a lot of the new studios they bought will be using it as well
@AinsleyE The biggest problem with frostbite is that it was good (and still is) only for one type of game
Almost everything that was not meant for a first-person-shooter game had to be made by studios that were learning to use Frostbite
the engine upgrades were not shared among the studios
so if one studio made steps in adapting Frostbite for their game
another studio would have to start all over
even if mechanically their games would behave the same
I'd love elden ring etc to use this engine moving forwards instead of the old creaky engine they currently employ
I know the games are supposed to look old and decrepit but surely they can look beautiful at the same time 🤔
@sanderson72 The Demon Souls remake alone was a reason to update to the PS5 and if you look how stable it runs it's just a dream
Ghost of Thushima looks and plays fantastic
I still have a ton of games to play but with these 3 alone im so happy
I am quite surprised we never got more games using the Decima engine
@Americansamurai1 Killzone Shadow Fall was the first game to use Decima
Built from the ground up to leverage the PS4 hardware
I'm assuming they are now updating the engine to fully leverage the PS5
Very excited to see where the engine goes now it has been untethered from the limitations of PS4
@VRjunky yeah very curious to see what the first PS5 only game will look like from the decima engine most likely it will be death stranding 2
@Flaming_Kaiser Indeed
I was one of the lucky few who scored a PS5 on launch day and I was absolutely floored by the Demons Souls Remake
I was in awe of what Bluepoint had achieved
especially considering it was a launch title
The Flame Lurker boss fight in that new engine goes down as one of the most visually impressive set pieces I have ever witnessed
I died quite a few times just because I was so distracted by the spectacle on show LoL
@VRjunky I played through it 3,5 times for the Platinum it was a blast
@Flaming_Kaiser I'm going to be honest and say it defeated me a second time on PS5
I got about halfway through on PS3 before giving up
Went back a few times but never got much further
I was one of the people who refused to watch any tutorials or guides
I found much of the delight of Fromsoft games was figuring out the obscure gameplay and progression mechanics
the next level boss after that (I've got no idea about either) but those ***** keep kicking my butt
I have been meaning to go back and play another build
but this working for a living nonsense takes up too much gaming time
I was incredibly excited when they announced Demons Souls Remake as a launch game
It's second only to Killzone Shadow Fall in regards to a launch title showing a true generation leap
that completely dynamic global illumination system
