Many didn’t see how the once heroic Dany could transform into an innocent-killing tyrant overnight. A post shared by @ emilia_clarke on May 19, 2019 at 9:37am PDT FINALE EMILIA, Italy (AFP) ― Thousands of people prepared to spend a second night sheltering in cars and tent cities in northeast Italy Monday after a strong earthquake killed six people and caused massive damage. Sunday’s 6.0-magnitude quake reduced homes and historic buildings to rubble in sparsely populated countryside around the city of Ferrara, Italy’s industrial heartland but also home to priceless architectural treasures. Firefighters and police made house-to-house checks and rescuers set up four tent cities in Finale Emilia ― the epicenter of the quake ― to provide shelter for thousands of people, with many still too traumatized to return home. In all some 5,000 people have been put up in various shelters in Modena and Ferrara, said the latter’s prefect, Luigi Mauriello. Hospital evacuees were also being cared for in temporary structures. “We’re worried we might be here a long time. Our house is more than 100 years old,” said Maria, a pensioner, as she stood under an umbrella in the rain outside a large blue tent set up by Italy’s civil protection agency. Dozens of aftershocks were felt through the night and heavy rains lashed the area, hampering the efforts of emergency workers who arrived from all over Italy and were operating around the clock to offer food and shelter. A firefighter works amid debris in Sant’ Agostino, northern Italy, Sunday. (AP-Yonhap News) Gas, water and electricity supplies had been cut in many areas and rubble and roof tiles still lay strewn in the streets of dozens of villages. “We’ll stay here until the situation calms down,” Sebastiano Lucchi, the manager of one of the tent camps in Finale Emilia, told AFP. Prime Minister Mario Monti, who cut short a trip to the United States where he was attending a NATO summit, was due to visit the hardest-hit areas on Tuesday. The disaster struck just over three years after a 6.3-magnitude quake devastated the city of L’Aquila in central Italy in March 2009, killing some 300 people and leaving tens of thousands homeless. Six people were killed in Sunday’s quake, including four night-shift workers in collapsed factories. A 37-year-old German woman and another woman aged over 100 reportedly died from shock while about 50 other people were injured. The quake rattled the cities of Ferrara ― a UNESCO World Heritage site ― as well as Bologna, Verona and Mantua and several smaller towns in what one Italian newspaper dubbed “Nightmare Night”. Many historic buildings, including churches and castles, were reduced to rubble while cars were crushed under falling masonry, and in Finale Emilia the town’s clock tower was dramatically sliced in two. In Sant’Agostino the clock was stuck at 4:05 a.m. ― the hour the shock hit. The roof also caved in at a recently renovated 16th-century chapel in San Carlo, exposing statues of angels and a crucifix to the elements. Fragments of the church’s famous frescoes could be seen in the rubble. Claudio Fabbri, a 37-year-old architect, told AFP the restoration had taken eight years. “Now there’s nothing left to do,” he said despondently. Giancarlo Rivelli, one of a team of engineers helping to inspect buildings, said: “There’s damage to the psychological heritage here. ”People identify with these buildings. They’re part of their life.“ Rivelli explained that one of the problems was that some of the old buildings had been sloppily renovated, for example with reinforced concrete. ”It’s like trying to cure a hunchback by putting a 100-kilogram weight on his shoulders,“ he said. Warehouses storing more than 300,000 wheels of Parmesan and Grana Padano, a similar cheese collapsed. The Emilia Romagna region has some of Italy’s richest farmland and is known for many delicacies including Parmesan, Parma ham, balsamic vinegar from Modena and Bolognese sauce, which are exported around the world. In all, some $320 million of farm products are estimated to have been lost as a result of the quake, an industry official said. A 5.1-magnitude aftershock struck Sunday afternoon, triggering the collapse of several structures already weakened, with one firefighter left seriously injured after falling from a wall. Yet in a show of calm, officials opened polls as planned for the second round of local elections in several cities and voting continued on Monday. With Daenerys Targaryen having burned King’s Landing to a crisp Jon Snow decided it was best to turn his sword on his former lover and ally The series finale ended with her death and Jon’s retreat beyond the wall Emilia Clarke is sharing her thoughts on the tragic demise of the character she spent so many years portraying Clarke opened up a bit about the story's abrupt end saying the Mother of Dragons deserved better than what she got The actor was very frustrated Dany died while Jon got away scot-free Daenerys Targaryen's ending is divisive among fans To be sure, this isn’t the first time the actor has expressed her displeasure with Daenerys’ ending. While she claims to “stand by” Daenerys no matter what, she previously revealed to Entertainment Weekly that she was just as flabbergasted about the ending as fans were at the time Her response to her character’s death was one of shock and disbelief When Clarke attended HBO’s Emmy party in 2018, she was asked whether she was happy with the way things ended for her character The actress was quiet for a bit before making an awkward face that clearly suggested she was the opposite of happy regarding Daenerys’ ending she said that Season 8 was the “best season ever.” However it was easy to see that she disagreed with the sentiment "Are you happy with how the season ended?" The face says it all Many fans were and are still upset over Daenerys’ death While Game of Thrones was clearly building up to a big moment the series committed very little time to her turn into the Mad Queen Jon being the one to kill her remains a sour point for a lot of fans; she had come to trust him and he betrayed that trust While the ending to the HBO series can’t be changed the silver lining is that it’s been long enough that Clarke can now speak freely about Daenerys’ end Maybe the Mother of Dragons will get a more suitable ending in A Song of Ice and Fire By Rossella Tercatin Two years ago most of the village of Finale Emilia was destroyed by a devastating earthquake which hit Northern Italy in summer 2012 In an effort to offer its support to those suffering for the earthquake the Union of Italian Jewish Communities allocated funds to help with the rebuilding of Finale’s school a renown Jewish teacher in the village for more than thirty years She was expelled from the school in 1938 after the promulgation of the racial legislation at that time Seleziona il modo in cui vuoi essere contattato da Unione delle Comunità Ebraiche Italiane: Usiamo Mailchimp come piattaforma per la realizzazione e l'invio dei nostri notiziari. Tribunale di Roma 218/2009 ISSN 2037‐1543 After one of the most popular series of all time, Game of Thrones wrapped up on Sunday night with its tear-jerking finale, the leading lady of the show Emilia Clarke who plays  Daenerys Targaryen penned an emotional goodbye note for her fans. Bidding adieu to her long extensive journey on the HBO hit show, Clarke turned to Instagram pouring out her emotions on a post as she parted ways with not just the show and the fans but the character she played that became a significant part of her life. "Finding the words to write this post has left me overwhelmed with how much I want to say but how small words feel in comparison to what this show and Dany have meant to me,” she wrote. "The mother of dragons chapter has taken up the whole of my adult life. This woman has taken up the whole of my heart. I’ve sweated in the blaze of dragon fire, shed many tears at those who left our family early, and wrung my brain dry trying to do Khaleesi and the masterful words, actions (and names) I was given, justice,” she went on to say. But not as sad as star Emilia Clarke, who portrays Daenerys in the show. The actress recently revealed to Vanity Fair that it was a bizarre experience filming her final scenes — and she dropped some major spoilers about the finale "It f***ed me up," she said of filming Daenerys's last scenes "Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is.. Some of the "weird sh*t" she was referring to likely includes the sex scenes with her character's nephew Jon Snow, portrayed by Kit Harington. What adds to the weirdness is the fact that Emilia is BFFs with Kit's real-life fiancé and co-star Rose Leslie. "If you’ve known someone for six years, and they’re best friends with your girlfriend, and you’re best friends with them there is something unnatural and strange about doing a love scene," Emilia admitted. "We’ll end up kissing and then we’re just pissing ourselves with laughter because it’s so ridiculous." Aside from giving away some deets about the GoT finale, Emilia also got candid about her love life, and how she vows to never date actors again. "The guys that I’ve met in my life that are dicks," she revealed, "I voluntarily walk the f*ck away from them. That’s just bad taste. People shouldn’t know about those choices." She claimed she was just pleased the Westeros fan base had such strong opinions in the first place. “On every level, it’s just profoundly flattering that people genuinely cared that much and they were with us for that long and that they really, truly believed in it,” she told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield. The 33-year-old admitted when it came to criticism, she tended to bury her head in the sand. “I don’t read anything online really because it doesn’t help my brain, but largely speaking I think people are being really kind about Daenerys and Mother Dragon and backing me up, so that’s lovely,” she went on. As for her take on the fantasy drama’s resolution, Emilia claimed the writers were given a poisoned chalice. “I don’t think there’s an ending that anyone could’ve written [to please everyone],” she concluded. “No matter how many signatures were on any bit of paper, you just can’t and that is really just so flattering.” Unfortunately the measured comments didn’t exactly resonate with fans, who took to Twitter to lash out. “Well I’m glad you’re flattered Emilia but the fact is that final season took the p**s,” one user fumed. “There might not be a ‘perfect ending’ but surely HBO could’ve done better than the s**t show we ended up with?!” another asked. While a third simply wrote: “Good for you hun but doesn’t change the fact it was a MESS,” alongside a string of angry emojis. Brutally titled "Remake Game Of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers" it kicked off after episode 4 in which Daenerys’ dragon Rhaegal and friend Missandei were brutally murdered “This series deserves a final season that makes sense,” it read While Emilia may not be taking the critiques personally, she previously admitted she was "heartbroken" on behalf of show bosses David Benioff and D.B. And like Clarke Hempstead Wright mentioned that the ending "won't go the way some people want and Hempstead Wright all said different things about the finale they all seem to follow the same general theme: that fans will be surprised It's a good strategy since it builds up anticipation for the season it also mitigates the chance of something accidentally revealing a spoiler It's something clearly Clarke is afraid of since she reportedly started a second Instagram account to prevent accidental Season 8 spoilers very secret account in which post scenes from my life that are relevant or fun for me and my closest friends," she told U.K "I learned to live with the idea that secrecy is the soul of my business." which is why we shouldn't put it past her to fudge the truth a little about the upcoming season of Game of Thrones hearing anything about Game of Thrones in the months leading up to the last season is fuel for their Reddit theories it might be worth taking it all with a grain of salt so that you don't go too far down the GoT rabbit hole before it returns in 2019 dragon-riding daughter of the Mad King Aerys II Targaryen steps up as one of a handful of contenders for the Iron Throne after Ned Stark (Sean Bean) discovers that his late friend King Robert Baratheon's (Mark Addy) presumed heir Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) has no true claim to the throne as he's really the son of Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and her twin brother Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) Dany appeared to be the ultimate Big Good for the show: She's headstrong faces hardships and comes out of them stronger than before she also seemed to have the most legitimate claim to rule the Seven Kingdoms But in the penultimate episode of "Game of Thrones" and its controversial finale She and her followers — including her nephew-slash-lover Jon Snow (Kit Harington) who's revealed to be not the bastard son of Ned Stark but the true-born son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen and thus the rightful heir to the Iron Throne — storm King's Landing where Dany uses her fire-breathing dragon to kill thousands and destroy everything in her path Daenerys' series-long protagonist arc ends in a hard villain turn — and with Bran "the Broken" Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) as the new ruler of the Six Kingdoms (Sophie Turner's Sansa Stark becomes the Queen in the North overseeing Winterfell in a separate kingdom) On one hand, having one of your most powerful and beloved characters abruptly descend into madness and break bad is par for the course for "Game of Thrones." Nevertheless, many fans feel that the arc was badly handled, and Daenerys' ultimate fate was simply one of the things that went wrong with "Game of Thrones." As such it's interesting to hear just what Clarke herself thinks of the character's ultimate fate — and she recently shared some of her views on the subject Let's see what Emilia Clarke has to say about the infamous "Game of Thrones" finale During an appearance on MTV News correspondent Josh Horowitz's podcast, Happy Sad Confused (via Horowitz's Twitter) Emilia Clarke shared her views on the subject of the "Game of Thrones" finale It looks like she fully understands the criticism but noted that her job as an actor requires her to be "on the same page" with the series' creators and writers "I get why people were pissed," Clarke began She then opened up about her personal point of view noting that she'd portrayed Daenerys for eight seasons so she was committed to play her well until the very end you can't do justice to the character that you've poured your blood and tears into for a decade without getting on the same page [with the creative decisions the team has made]," said Clarke and you're doing it for the storytelling." Clarke added that while she does "have a certain autonomy over what flavor" she can bring to the story she's tasked with telling but the end product is ultimately out of her hands and the writer decides what I'm saying," she said "So you just gotta go in and try and give it as much truth and honesty .. When Horowitz asked whether Clarke had suspicions that people would be upset over "Game of Thrones" finale when she first saw the Season 8 scripts the first instinct when you read the scripts is you just get that gut punch of like okay!' You're thinking about — your first reaction is that yeah.'" Clarke then admitted that she "wondered" whether people might enjoy the events of the series finale and revealed that she hadn't looked at any reception to or reviews for the show for the entire time she was on it so she wasn't about to start after the finale aired It's worth noting that Clarke didn't outright bash the "GoT" finale at any point She made a point of circling around direct statements hearing her say that she understands the fans' disappointment and note that she might have been a bit reserved about certain developments but gave her all in front of the camera gives us all the more respect for Clarke It may even make you hope that the Mother of Dragons would've received a more fitting end to her story too.
