Jonathan Milan in the sprints that the group went through seemed to be pedaling with only one leg
scattered bursts with the group that risked breaking into several sections
Thomas has to work overtime to keep up with him and save the idea of an overwhelming power that still appears evident

Maglia rosa tried to spoil the sprinters' day with attack followed by Geraint Thomas
Tim Merlier celebrates his win by remembering Belgian Wouter Weylandt
beating Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) to the finish line of stage 3 in Fossano after a late attack led by race leader Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) was caught just 300 metres from the line
who attacked with Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) and Mikkel Honoré (EF Education-EasyPost) with 3km to go
looked set to add a second stage win in three days to his collection
led by the sprinters and lead-out men behind
managed to bring the move back within sight of the line
setting up a last-minute hectic sprint finish
Honoré had led the way in the late three-man attack
The Dane drew out GC favourite Pogačar and his main rival Thomas in the process
with the man in the maglia rosa taking over at the front and dropping Honoré inside the final 2km
Thomas hung on to Pogačar’s wheel as the peloton
only doing so well inside the final kilometre on the flat run to the line
The US team was joined by Polti-Kometa and Soudal-QuickStep in setting up the final sprint
though it was Tobias Lund Andresen (DSM-Firmenich PostNL) and Alberto Dainese (Tudor) who led out the dash for the line
Merlier was in prime position behind and hit the wind at just the right time to come through and take the second Giro stage win of his career
came home in second as Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) beat Jenthe Biermans (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) to take third place
While Pogačar and Thomas didn’t make their move stick all the way to the finish and grab those extra seconds to go further clear at the top of the GC standings
the pair did manage to subtract a handful of bonus seconds from their totals
saw Ben Swift hold off Pogačar to deny the Slovenian three bonus seconds
he’d have to settle for two as Thomas crossed the line for third place and a single bonus second
Pogačar extends his overall race lead to 46 seconds over Thomas
who himself moves one clear of Dani Martínez (Bora-Hansgrohe) as the Colombian now lies 47 seconds off the lead
The third stage of the Giro d’Italia would see the peloton tackle the first sprinter-friendly stage of the race
heading 166km south-west across Piemonte from Novara to Fossano
After racing over six classified climbs during the opening two stages
Monday’s stage would bring just one hill – the fourth-category climb at Lu after 59km – though two small unclassified hills in the final kilometres of the day could make things tricky for the sprinters
It was a quiet start to the stage as no big battle over the breakaway materialised in the opening kilometres. In fact, it would be almost 50km before a rider ventured out as the peloton
led by Alpecin-Deceuninck and Intermarché-Wanty
Intermarché-Wanty rider Lilian Calmejane was the first man to go
heading off with a move a handful of kilometres before Lu
He’d soon be joined by Davide Ballerini (Astana Qazaqstan)
The Frenchman led the way over the top of the climb for a maximum of three points before dropping back and leaving Ballerini out front alone
The Italian would keep going until just past the 100km to go marker
at which point it was all back together once again
The next action would come 20km later on the way to the day’s first intermediate sprint at Masio
a group of around 25 sprinters and lead-out men had split off the front of the peloton
before Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) led across the line to take 12 points towards the points classification
He’d do the same again at the Intergiro sprint with 67km to go
beating Tim Merlier (Soudal-QuickStep) and Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) across the line for another 12 points in both Intergiro and points classifications
it was Movistar and Polti-Kometa who led the chase
bringing the gap under the minute mark and causing some fractures in the larger peloton as they sought to bring things back together once more
Most of the major GC names made the right side of the split
with only Cian Uijtdebroeks (Visma-Lease A Bike) missing out
though he’d make it back with the help of his teammates at 48km to go
The lead group continued to push on at 30 seconds up the road
the group knocked off the pace before long
ending the breakaway move with 44km left to run as the peloton became one once more
one final rise in the road and another intermediate sprint lay between the peloton and the finish at Cherasco at 22km out
There’d be no sprint points on offer
two and one seconds towards the general classification
Race leader Tadej Pogačar jumped from the peloton in a bid to extend his overall lead and he’d end up doing so
though Ben Swift played an interfering role on behalf of his Ineos Grenadiers leader Geraint Thomas to lead across the line
Pogačar would have to settle for two seconds as Thomas crossed the line in third place with one
From there a fast run towards the finish led by the sprinter’s squads would only be disrupted by some rain and a possible attack at the late unclassified hill in Fossano
the GC men and sprinters fought to stay in prime position at the front until the 3km to go mark
though that late hill proved too tempting for the biggest names in the pink jersey battle as Pogačar and Thomas jumped with Honoré
It wouldn’t be long before the race leader took over on the front
powering forward on the flat and taking only Thomas with him towards the line
But even the might of the two top contenders in the race wouldn’t deny the sprint specialists
and so it was Merlier who reaped the rewards and celebrated the win on stage 3

The riders head into the Po Valley for the first chance at a bunch sprint of this year's edition
2024Distance: 166kmStart location: NovaraFinish location: FossanoStart time: 13:10 CETFinish time (approx): 17:12 CET
In pictures of the Basilica of San Gaudenzio, the 19th century church that dominates the skyline of Novara, you can see the snow-capped peaks of the Alps to the north. But when the riders set off from Novara on stage three of the Giro d'Italia
beginning a long lap of the country that won’t see them return to the mountain range for another two weeks
stage three takes place exclusively in the flat terrain of the Po Valley
passing through the plains of the Piedmont rice fields
The rice grown here is famous throughout the world
as the source of Carnaroli and Arborio long grain varieties used for Risotto; to sample a local dish
but the hills where they are grown have been overlooked for today’s route
This will therefore be a stage for the sprinters
the first of approximately eight in the race
Last year’s sprints were characterised by variety
with no single rider dominating in the manner that Jasper Philipsen did at the Tour de France; in fact
all seven bunch sprints were won by seven different riders
That was on one hand reflective of how many quality sprinters were present
and how evenly matched they were; Jonathan Milan may have won the maglia ciclamino
but that was more down to consistency than dominance
But it was also partly due to how much these sprinters' stages varied
with some featuring enough hills to give an edge to more all-round riders like Michael Matthews
and others much more straightforward parcours to favour purer sprinters like Mark Cavendish
Today’s stage might look straightforward enough
with only one small categorised climb interrupting a blissfully flat-looking parcours
but upon close inspection includes a spanner in the works in the final kilometres to complicate matters
the riders will have to climb about 1.5km at 5.3%
before the road flattens out again for the final 3m to the line
That’s unlikely to be steep enough to actually drop any sprinters out of the peloton
but it will require energy they would prefer to reserve for the final dash to the line
Teams with sprinters more capable of climbing uphill would be wise to set a fierce pace on this short rise
and potentially give their man a small edge that might be enough to swing the stage victor in their favour
Stage profile sourced via the Giro d'Italia website
It's been a punishing start to this edition of the Giro d'Italia for the sprinters
but they now get their reward for their perseverance with three consecutive stages that could end in bunch sprints
There's a wealth of sprinters at this Giro and that means the final kilometre of Monday's stage could get extremely messy
One man who has consistently proven his ability to navigate this chaos and emerge successful is Tim Merlier (Soudal–Quick-Step)
a two-time Grand Tour stage winner who has been in superb form so far this season
He perhaps isn't the fastest in a flat-out sprint when compared to some of the other names here
but has a canniness to launch his effort at the right time that has served him well so far
Another rider in sumptuous form is Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease a Bike)
It's unclear how a crash on stage two has affected him
but the Dutchman will be a real contender to claim victory on stage three despite it being his first-ever Grand Tour sprint
The 2023 points classification winner Jonathan Milan showed last year how his raw power has often rescued him from poor positioning
but that positioning was perhaps the reason he missed out on taking more than just a single stage win
He'll benefit from a strong and organised Lidl-Trek team to help deliver him the right position this year
and in a straight drag to the line there's few that will be able to match him
The likes of Fabio Jakobsen (DSM-Firmenich-PostNL)
have shown themselves to be more than capable of competing with the power of a rider like Milan
but their mixed form so far this year suggests they may all be finding their feet a little
and could do with a good result here to get the ball rolling
Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates) will be afforded the opportunity to go for the sprints despite his team all pulling for Tadej Pogačar's GC bid
but the Colombian could perhaps do with a slightly more difficult finish to reduce the size of the bunch
The same could be said for Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) and Ethan Vernon (Israel-Premier Tech)
Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious) will be hoping to do enough to claim a long-awaited first Grand Tour stage win
while former stage winner Alberto Dainese (Tudor Pro Cycling) will also be hoping to recapture some form in his home race
we think Tim Merlier will win the first bunch sprint of the 2024 Giro d'Italia

First big chance for the peloton’s pure fastmen
The puncheur and pure climbers have had a chance to shine this Giro d’Italia
and now on stage 3 it’s the turn of the sprinters
They have to contend with just 750 meters of accumulated altitude gain on the 166km race from Novara to Fossano
with the day’s sole category 4 climb located 58.1km after the start
A short ascent is located at Cherasco with 22km remaining but it hasn’t attracted any official categorization
which will encourage the big sprinters with an aversion to climbing stages
The final 3 kilometers are almost totally straight aside from a sharp bend with 1.3km to go
Watch out for the battle for positions and the chance to see which sprinters are in top form

Buongiorno and welcome to our live coverage of stage 3 of the 2024 Giro d'Italia
After an exhilarating opening weekend of racing with the GC action exploding in Turin and up Oropa
today's third stage should be the first opportunity for the sprinters' teams to show themselves and fight it out in a big bunch finish
The race stays in the Piedmont region in northwest Italy with a 166km route starting in Novara and heading south to Fossano
There isn't much in the way of climbing along the route with just a singular category 4 climb to content with
so those with fast men should look to control.
here's a look at Pogačar customised bike for the third day
Nothing crazy for now but the pink accents do make that Colnago look even sweeter.
A post shared by UAE Team Emirates🇦🇪 (@uae_team_emirates)
We're around 45 minutes away from the neutralised start in Novara
One man who will certainly be happy to be back in Novara is Tim Merlier
This is where the Belgian sprinter won his first Grand Tour stage in 2021 when he took victory in the second stage ahead of Giacomo Nizzolo
He's riding for a different team in 2024 with Soudal-QuickStep but he'll be hoping for similar success today
Riders are completing sign-ons and the team presentation ahead of the third stage
Piemonte native Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) gets the biggest cheer of the day so far
looking closer at today's finish in Fossano reveals a much punchier final few kilometres than a simple flat run-in
The road up to Fossano takes the riders off a main road and onto a steeper duo of switchbacks
This steep pinch could prove a real problem for the purer sprinters mentioned earlier
Here's a look at Jonathan Milan arriving at the start of today's stage
He'll fancy his chances even with the steep pinches near the finale
Milan won the first sprint opportunity at last year's race and held the maglia ciclamino right the way through to Rome
Its a big day for Olav Kooij and Visma-Lease a Bike as the Dutchman eyes his first opportunity to take a Grand Tour stage win on debut
Visma set stage wins as their main objective for this year's Giro and sprinter Kooij will be the focus with a strong leadout train of Edoardo Affini

Race leader Tadej Pogačar gears up for the start of stage 3 in the maglia rosa.
Pogačar's shorts are looking rather ciclamino
and he's shared a friendly chat with the maglia ciclamino wearer Filippo Fiorelli on the start line
expect to see him fully in pink as the days go on
The riders have set off from Novara to the cheers of big crowds
We'll have six kilometres to get through until we get to kilometre 0
Davide Ballerini is enjoying a chilled start to the day and tucking into some haribos out of the lead race car
He'll either be on duty for his own ambitions or Max Kanter at the finish today.
Stage 3 is officially underway at this year's Giro
Flag dropped by race director Stefano Allocchio and the jacket on his back shows just how the weather could play a part in today's stage
No attacks as of yet from the flag drop as there have been for the past two days
A look at the jersey wearers on stage 3 of the Giro d'Italia: Cian Uijtdebroeks in white
Fiorelli in ciclamino and Dani Martínez who is looking after the blue KOM jersey for the Slovenian race leader
Andrea Piccolo (EF Education EasyPost) was also on the front row after his efforts in the break yesterday.
Full status quo on the peloton for now with everyone happy for a calm start after two full gas days of racing in the hills and mountains
Very chilled out pace for everyone and no one fancying disrupting off the front
Lots of chats going on at the back of the peloton
Here's that chat between Fiorelli and Pogačar with the Italian wondering whether the Slovenian had his colours mixed up when he put on his shorts this morning
The ciclamino bottom half has been causing quite a stir on social media.
Pogačar and Geraint Thomas are taking the chance to have a chat after the GC action exploded yesterday
It won't be a day for either of them today with a calm sprint stage on the menu
They'll be eyeing the final 3km and a safe run into Fossano
Another 10 kilometres goes by without any change in the peloton
It is looking like there is no chance of a break today unless someone makes a move on one of the very few rises
Thumbs up and a wave from Fabio Jakobsen to the camera
He said to media this morning that the stage will be his to go for as plan A but if he isn't feeling good then Tobias Lund Andresen will have the same freedom he had at the Tour of Turkey where he scored three stage wins.
Intermarché Wanty and Alpecin-Deceuninck are the teams technically on the front of the peloton but without anything to chase there is no need to up the pace.
A look at the peloton on today's third stage
Intermarché are keeping their spot at the front of the peloton but these last few kilometres have just been a chance for the riders to get a feed in and take on some food ahead of the final 100 kilometres
First attacks are starting from Intermarché with the one categorised climb of the day approaching
Lilian Calmejane is the most active.
Davide Ballerini (Astana Qazaqstan) has gone with the Frenchman off the front
The one climb of the day will be to Lu (3.4km at 3.8%) which offers a maximum of three KOM points
Calmejane must be thinking of the long term and after an incredibly easy start
it isn't much exertion for three KOM points which could be useful later on in the race
He led the classification after stage 1 so could be targeting it throughout this year's Giro
They had a chat before and Calmejane takes the maximum points with Ballerini close behind
The duo's lead does show quite a narrow road through Lu so they'll have to be careful as they funnel into the KOM point.
There are splits in the peloton as Lidl-Trek hit the front with Jasper Stuyven just after the narrowing in the road following the KOM
Time for everyone to wake up with 104km to go
Here's a look back and Calmejane and Ballerini cresting the only categorised climb of the day
A coupe spots of rain have been spotted on the cameras the racing calms down again
Lilian Calmejane wins the mountain sprint and wakes up everyone 🙌 #Giro pic.twitter.com/EGCo3GgPOCMay 6, 2024
Ballerini has been left out in front with a 1:06 gap but he isn't riding with any intention of staying away.
Think this look from Davide Cimolai and Ruben Fernandez sums up today's stage
Ballerini has been caught after trying his absolute hardest to do so
Things have calmed down again in the peloton
There was a big slowing of the pace at the back of the peloton as they exited a roundabout but no one seems to have hit the deck thankfully.
We're closing in on the first intermediate sprint point of the day into Masio (Abbazia)
It should be a good chance to see some of the fast men's form and who is saving themselves just for the finale
A look at the peloton navigating some of the lovely narrow roads on stage 3 of this year's Giro
Alpecin have started drilling it on the front so Groves is clearly fancying the intermediate sprint as he has been for the first two stages
Intermarché are also showing themselves for Girmay with Tudor the third team active in the peloton for Dainese's efforts.
Milan is freelancing in his Lidl-Trek jersey so he is up for defending his ciclamino jersey that he won last season
Milan takes the IS first with Kooij in second and Merlier in third - perhaps a sign of things to come in today's finale
Splits had been forming as the sprinters teams ramped up towards the intermediate sprint point and the Italian has taken his opportunity to try and break up the racing.
The peloton is calming behind but there is a large group of sprinters and leadout riders off the front
Fiorelli isn't happy with the composition and goes off the front alone again.
With around 25 riders peeling away in the front group
UAE have placed a rider at the front of the peloton to keep up the tempo
The leader's have a 1:23 advantage and are swapping turns with Alpecin
Tudor and Bardiani represented by multiple riders.
Fiorelli's had a mechanical issue with his back wheel wobbling all over the place
He's happy to continue riding with it as the Shimano neutral service car is no use for his Campagnolo components
This accidental sprinter's breakaway has kicked the stage into life with Polti Kometa
Bahrain Victorious and Movistar all putting a rider towards the front of the peloton to try and bring things back together.
Here's one of the favourites for the day Olav Kooij
He has Visma teammate Christophe Laporte with him in the front group
Movistar are fully committed to chasing this down as are Polti Kometa with the gap now coming down gradually
Fascinating developments in the peloton.
Ewan and Milan are all alone in the front group so likely won't want this group to make it to the end as they will be without their leadouts to help position them
Jonathan Milan powers to take the Intergiro point into Montegrosso d'Asti which also has points on offer for the ciclamino jersey
He didn't have any issues without a leadout and easily moved ahead of Merlier and Groves behind him to take the maximum haul
Fiorelli finally gets his bike change after the sprint point and a great swap at a good moment has seen him almost instantly make it to the back of the leading group.
Movistar and Polti Kometa are keeping up their efforts and are seeing some change in the break's advantage
The gap is now back down under the minute mark on a small uphill section of racing.
Here's a look back at the first attackers of the day Calmejane and Ballerini
They probably regret not keeping up their efforts as they could have got ahead of this sprinters break and been in it once it went after the intermediate sprint.
The aggressive chase in the peloton has strung out the big group
Movistar and Polti are doing some serious damage to try and bring the leading group back in
Splits are forming as riders begin to struggle.
Uijtdebroeks is down in one of the splits in the white jersey
Things should probably come back together but it is absolutely full gas for the moment.
The chase is still on for Movistar and Polti with just 30 seconds separating them from the breakaway
Gaps are only getting bigger behind now with an infernal pace still being set
Pogačar has been sitting calmly in the pink jersey towards the front of the peloton
As long as he stays safe he'll be happy especially with how much the action has kicked off.
Bahrain-Victorious and Polti Kometa do seem to be faltering in their chase efforts
The advantage to the group of sprinters out in front has stabilised to around 30 seconds with the second group containing Uijtdebroeks and Lutsenko now at one minute from the leaders
Alpecin-Deceuninck are still trying to kick on with what is left of the peloton closing in
Visma have a done a good job of damage limitation as the second chasing group nears the leading remnants of the peloton
Uijtdebroeks' GC hopes will live to fight another day.
Finally everything is more or less back together with those out in front knocking off their efforts after an all out 40 kilometres of racing en route to Fossano
We're back in colour order in the peloton with the teams now getting themselves ready and into position ahead of the final run to the finish
The pace should naturally start to increase as that front spot becomes more desirable
Here's a look inside that sprinters' breakaway that has just been reeled in
Laporte and Trentin both showed good legs but will need to recover ahead of the finish before they work for Kooij and Dainese respectively at the finish.
DSM-Firmenich PostNL and Ineos Grenadiers are bookending the peloton for now with both the sprint teams and GC teams interested in staying safe on what is sure to be a hectic run in.
There are reports of rain falling at the finish in Fossano
The peloton is closing in on the next intermediate sprint in Cherasco
it may be from Mark Cavendish taking a win here at the 2013 Giro d'Italia
This was his fourth of five wins from that Grand Tour en route to winning the points jersey which was still red at the time before being revived as the maglia ciclamino in 2017 for the 100th edition of the corsa rosa
There are bonus seconds available on this uphill rise up to the Cherasco intermediate sprint so we may see some cheeky GC moves here
Pogačar two and Thomas the remaining single point
GC games likely done for the day and Pogačar extends his lead on the rest of the competition (except for ben Swift).
Simon Carr has unfortunately abandoned the Giro d'Italia but there is no information as to why yet so look out for updates.
The road has started to gradually go uphill in places as we close in on the finish
How will the legs be after that full gas 45 minutes of racing earlier in the day
the rain looks like it isn't going to stay away on stage 3
The tension seems to be rising in anticipation of this hectic finale
Hopefully everyone can stay safe in the rain.
The peloton is closing in on a small incline in the road which then plateaus before descending down with 9km to go
Teams will have to be in front when that descent starts if they want ideal placement before the run into Fossano.
Leadout riders have started to struggle and drop out the back as the pace begins to ramp up
This is going to be quite the final 10 kilometres.
Here's why the positioning is so important for today's finale
A look at a map of the final 5km shows the switchbacks in the road inside 4km to go
a crucial left hand turn with 1300 metres will test the riders positioning before the long
straight run to the line in Fossano.
Ineos Grenadiers have moved up on the left hand side of the peloton to try and keep Geraint Thomas' GC hopes safe in the final
The GC riders are aiming for the safety point of 3km to go which is at the crest of that final climb
We're up to 60kph in the peloton now on this downhill section that I spoke about
These next few kilometres are vital for both the stage win and anyone trying to arrive with their GC ambitions unscathed.
This portion of descending is clearly on damp roads and it is starting to narrow
Pogačar and UAE aren't too organised for now and will need to do some work to ensure the Slovenian is in the ideal spot to stay safe.
They are closing in on Fossano now and can see the uphill road in the distance
Alpecin and Ineos are the best-positioned teams for now at the head of the racing
The leading group is thinning out massively after a surprisingly brutal day
Ineos are doing the best job for now through Ben Swift with three riders leading the peloton
Pogačar is sat further down in the pink jersey and he isn't too well looked after with his team split throughout the peloton
Thomas is doing a near full effort to stay safe with the GC riders all together on one side and the sprinters' teams on the other
No one is attacking and it is status quo for now for the sprinters.
Its the GC riders at the front but once we pass 3km to go
the sprint battle is going to explode even further into life
Attack by EF Education EasyPost and Pogačar follows
Thomas is forced to respond to the race leader
The trio have got away and Alpecin are scrambling to try and close the gap so this can come down to a sprint
Only Thomas can follow as Honoré fades into the group of sprinters
Lidl-Trek are doing everything to bring it back as the duo go through the final corner
Thomas pulls through as Pogačar flicks the elbow
They aren't caught yet as behind the sprinters launch their final leadouts
Pogačar sprints in pink but he is caught
Its a blanket finish but the Belgian looks like he has it in a breathtaking finale
That was far from easy as Merlier looks absolutely exhausted past the line
Vernon and Milan were all there but in the end
Merlier had enough in the tank to just outlast the rest to the line in Fossano.
Biniam Girmay (Intermarché Wanty) takes third behind Merlier and Milan with Jenthe Biermans (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) taking a nice fourth-place finish
Here is Tim Merlier's crowning moment from stage 3 of the Giro
It is his second win at the Giro and very well deserved on his return to Grand Tour racing after missing out in 2023
Giro d'Italia stage 3 full top ten from Novara to Fossano:
3 - Biniam Girmay (intermarché Wanty)
4 - Jenthe Biermans (Arkéa-B&B Hotels)
5 - Tobias Lund Andresen (DSM-Firmenich PostNL)
8 - Stanisław Aniołkowski (Cofidis)
That wraps up our live coverage of stage 3 of the Giro d'Italia but look out for news from the race coming out from our team on the ground in Italy and come back tomorrow for more exhilarating action

Slovenian marks first day in pink jersey with late attack at Fossano
where he tried to upset the sprinters with a late attack in the company of Geraint Thomas
The long run from Novara lent itself to a bunch sprint and, under normal circumstances, a cessation of hostilities among the general classification contenders
that there is no such thing as a détente in the Pogačar era
The first warning came 21km from the finish
as the gruppo skirted the edge of the Langhe and reached the intermediate sprint at Cherasco
travelling at a significant rate of knots in search of bonus seconds
Ineos’ Ben Swift beat him to the line
but Pogačar still picked up two bonus seconds for his trouble
while Geraint Thomas collected the remaining second
They drifted back to the bunch immediately afterwards
but Pogačar’s antennae remained on high alert
The chance presented itself a shade under 3km to go as the road kicked upwards on the approach to Fossano
When Mikkel Honoré (EF Education-EasyPost) tested the waters
Pogačar couldn’t help but join in
who probably could have done without the hassle
it wasn’t my attack,” Pogačar said
it was a strong effort from Geraint and Honoré
but it was just a bit of stretching the legs.”
It must have felt like something more than a mere stretch for Honoré
who was unwilling – or perhaps simply unable – to provide much help to Pogačar beyond a couple of cursory turns
the sprinters’ teams were scrambling in pursuit
it looked as though Pogačar was going to pull off an unexpected heist
Pogačar kicked again in the finishing straight in a bid to hold off the closing bunch
even though the UAE Team Emirates man must have known by then the effort would be a forlorn one
rolling home in 46th place on the day
Tim Merlier (Soudal-QuickStep) won the stage but the headlines
I was just thinking about keeping good position
and I followed his wheel,” Pogačar said
“We came over the climb and I saw we had a small gap
but it was not enough to come to the finish
It was meant to be today for the sprinters.”
Pogačar had a similar explanation for his exhibition at the intermediate sprint
insisting that he had contested the bonus seconds only because he sensed Ineos were trying to tee up Thomas
“It was not my intention to go but I saw Ineos moving up
and three seconds is three seconds,” he shrugged
“It was better to take one second ahead of Thomas than let him take three seconds on me
Pogačar added a minimal deposit to his overall lead
which now stands at 46 seconds over Thomas and 47 over Daníel Martínez (Bora-Hansgrohe)
His exuberance on a day such as this invariably raises the thorny issue of his experiences at the past two Tours de France
when he ultimately paid a heavy price for his eagerness to sprint for every lamppost on the road to Paris
Pogačar reached for humour when asked if such attacks might prove expensive between now and Rome
“So far I didn’t spend any euros,” he said
I’ve been on a paid vacation for six days
His performance here certainly suggested that Pogačar has a more generous daily allowance than anyone else at this Giro
He has now indulged his appetite for attacking on each of the first three stages of the race
he gives the disquieting impression of being a man eager to try everything on the menu between here and Rome
In the press conference truck beyond the finish line
Pogačar hesitated when asked if his intention was to try to win every stage of this Giro
I wake up at 6.45 and have a cappuccino and a slice of fresh panettone. I live just outside Fossano, a town in Piedmont famous for our wines, white truffles, hazelnuts and chocolate.

(Image credit: RCS Sport)(Image credit: RCS Sport)Stage 3 brings the drama down a notch, hopefully. After two explosive stages the third day has just one climb and a flat finish. A time bonus sprint inside 15km to go might liven things up a touch but the overall contenders should be content to sit this one out.

(ANS – Cuneo) – A new way of being a missionary
also convey this attitude to those who leave the province to seek their vocation elsewhere
Whether it is a specialist who goes to the big cities
the peasant DNA continuously generates skills to adapt and the search for efficiency
And it was for a Salesian born in Piasco and formed at Fossano
who took an “entrepreneurial” spirit from his homeland that is very useful in his mission in Africa: first in Nigeria
who shared with “La Fedeltà” (a weekly) a dip into his past as a boy who grew up between his parents' grocery store and rotisserie and the parish courtyard
passing through elementary school and girls with their playmates
While carrying out his mission as a son of Don Bosco
involved in the management of the vocational school and the oratory
Riccardo Racca goes visiting young people in their cell without trial and without any educational accompaniment
such as the case of a boy missing one leg who managed to get treatment by obtaining permits to leave prison
overcoming shyness and just accepting things
he is free to move and face life taking his destiny in hand
The expert gaze of the farmer led Salesian Brother Racca to explore the possibilities of enhancing a plant used by the local population for food purposes
up to 7 metres in height and eminently exploitable
the seeds also provide oil used for cosmetics
What is important is that its properties can be a response to the dietary needs of large communities: the vitamins
antioxidants that moringa contains are valuable additives
also through the drying of the leaves that makes them durable
This plant was referred to as a “superfood” in 2022 thanks to the promotional activity that Bro
He made use of his regular visits to Italy and Europe to study it
consider the possibilities of extensive cultivation in Sierra Leone
and make contact with experts and potential buyers of moringa powder
The dream is in fact that the farmers in Bo
currently a group of about twenty families in a cooperative run by the mission
can produce and treat the product for export as well: this trade would thus become a first step towards the self-sustainability of the Salesian presence
From this resources could be added to those that already today many benefactors entrust to Missioni Don Bosco to defend the most fragile young people: the future foresees the strengthening of the vocational school
the formation of new Salesians to give a future to the congregation in Sierra Leone
who is the family anchor and spiritual support once also provided by his parents
and the new members of the Salesian work in Fossano and his fellow students who have become professionals
He finds the resources there to nurture his dream that advances - as the Holy Founder did - with feet on the ground
The Piedmontese Association of Past Pupils of Salesian Schools has enthusiastically embraced this project
The “miracle” will be the first container that will be filled in Bo to export moringa in its various forms instead of leaving Italy to bring aid

Text description provided by the architects. A cascade of chains on the facade, dynamic space, mobile, changing, not what you would expect from a bank, especially in a province at the foot of the Maritime Alps. The branch of this Credit Agency, winner of a closed competition, brings a breath of lightness and a levity that would be more common in a completely different sort of building; an exhibition centre or a performance venue, for example.
This bank is stripped of that entire traditional image which characterises an institution of this type and instead presents a new unedited image of itself.

They will have an opportunity to experience an architectural quality that Le Corbusier christened Architectural Promenade.
