PONTEDERA – A few thrills at the end, but the Folgore Fucecchio also takes home race 2 of the play-out against Juventus Pontedera and grab the long-awaited one salvation. All without Simone Orsini for 38 minutes. Coach Pistolesi's most determined player was forced to leave the field after just two minutes due to injury. However, Folgore was good at sticking together, giving life to a spirited, physical and 'heartfelt' game.
the vast marshland that occupies the heart of Tuscany between Empoli and Pontedera and laps the town of Fucecchio
Its inhabitants were beginning to prepare to face another hard day like so many
during that sad and tragic period of World War II
Those who had been displaced from their homes because their homes were near areas that had been shelled by the Americans; those who went to gather sarello
a marsh grass that was woven into woven items for domestic use (such as baskets
chairs); those who went to work in the fields; and those who had stopped in this area
the largest inland marsh in the entire Italian territory
because they could not cross the front and had enough fruit here thanks to the farmers who brought nothing to market
Those who went to feed their livestock or those who took refuge in the Marsh because it was believed to be a safe area
could never reach and strike. That morning of August 23
one of the most terrible massacres was perpetrated not only in the territory of Empolese Valdelsa
learned that many of the inhabitants of that area had hidden themselves right among the reeds of the Padule and
certain that they were going to go for a sure shot
It was a bloody and tragic roundup that broke the lives of numerous innocent civilians
One hundred and seventy-four were the victims of that premeditated massacre: among them
sixteen teenagers under the age of eighteen
women and even children for the main purpose of striking a hard blow in the anti-partisan war
a reaction against those who were on the side opposed to Nazi-fascist ideology
the practice of terror had been deployed: in other words
the Nazi-fascists wanted to make it clear to the population that anyone could be shot
And this was done in order to block any rebellious anti-fascist thought and also to facilitate deportations of thousands of people who would later be employed in the construction of the Gothic Line
a necessary defensive line made by building fortifications on the ridges of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines in order to prevent the Anglo-American allies from reaching the Po Valley
The massacre was therefore carried out against the civilian population
since the former were considered defenseless
unable to defend themselves and therefore easier to eliminate
All this was done through a plan well premeditated by the high commands and ruthlessly implemented by the appropriate war units
to justify the killing of so many children: the latter would be guilty of helping the partisans
bringing them supplies--impossible when one considers that many of the victims did not reach two or four years of age
a frightening brutality that spared no one
which was one of the main theaters of the horrendous slaughter
those who mourned their fathers or mothers
those who mourned their grandfathers or grandchildren
but the whole community was involved and deeply scarred
not least because the victims came from different villages in the swamp and its immediate surroundings: from Cintolese
Many of those responsible for the massacre went unpunished
because they could not be traced; still others received light sentences
as in the case of the general of the Twenty-sixth Armored Division that operated in the Padule
who got off with ten years’ imprisonment (but died in prison in Germany in 1950)
or as was the case with Captain Joseph Strauch
Marshal Fritz Jauss (identified as the commander of the squad that carried out the massacre)
did not go to trial until the 2000s in Rome
To keep the memory of this terrible episode in Italian history alive, the Museum of Local Memory(MuMeLoc)
at once an ethnographic and historical museum
The stories of the peasants of the plain of Fucecchio and its surroundings are intertwined with those of the massacre
ceilings and floors take visitors to the middle of the swamps
among the rustle of the wind that stirs the foliage and the croaking of the frogs
A quotidianity made up of days in the middle of the marsh to fish for tench and eels
of women who sit at the edges of farmhouses weaving wicker to produce flasks and baskets
of farmers who go out to work the land returning only in the evening to write or recite
according to a tradition typical of these areas
A daily routine brutally interrupted on the morning of that August 23
The MuMeLoc has dedicated a long section of its exhibition itinerary to the massacre of the Marsh
which in part also affected Cerreto Guidi (thirteen victims were counted there)
Visitors can linger in front of videos of witnesses to the incident
The museum tour has the flavor of a journey: one of those journeys of short duration
The public is therefore accompanied inside the Fucecchio Marshes: the aim is to familiarize them with the history of the place (with particular attention to the history of the twentieth century: they become familiar with the economic context
with the rise and fall of Fascism in between)
and the nature that the marshland environment hosts
Part of the narrative is entrusted to talking objects: real objects
which placed on a special table set off dedicated videos
the funnel-shaped baskets that were lowered into the water of the marsh for fishing (at the time they were made of wicker)
and again a sickle starts the tale of a peasant woman who explains how the land was worked and the harvest was made in the early twentieth century
or a box of old photographs and postcards evokes the memories of the local elders
we come to the section dedicated to the massacre of the Fucecchio Marshes
which occupies the central area of the museum
by means of movable panels and video projections
over two cores: the emotional core and the reflective core
The emotional core takes us back to the day of the massacre
A video projection on fog recreates the atmosphere of the swamp
and as a background the hubbub of the citizens
the moment of narration through testimonies
documents: we talk about what happened on August 23
And it is precisely the testimonies that are one of the community’s most valuable assets
Several have been collected in a volume entitled Fra la terra
published in 2004 and edited by photographer Massimo D’Amato and historian Sandro Nannucci: a conspicuous collection of memories of the Fucecchio Marshes
“The next morning [...] the first person to be found was my sister-in-law
I had two sisters and my sister-in-law was in the house with my sister
I had two sisters and my sister-in-law was in the house with one
while my dad and my mom were in the house with that other one
I get there and this sister started to tell me that nothing had happened and that my dad and my mom were at the other sister’s
I get to the house and there were these brides over here [from the house next door]
at one point the little girls who used to come over to give something to the beasts and get the stuff pass by and I asked them where Lia was
and they said that she had been wounded: at that moment I had a feeling that she was dead
I had found my wife murdered on the embankment
loaded up and brought here where they had also brought those from the Lillo’s casino and they were in the square and they brought here
the kind that women used for their trousseau and they put themselves in these crates
even one on top of the other but in such a way that afterwards
they took these sheets and put them in the coffins
instead there in the crates it was a disaster..
anyway they managed to get crates made with four boards
in the morning they took them to the church and then in the evening they took them to the cemetery with the truck that came to pick up the grain.”
Rigoletta Pagni had been married just a year
collecting tobacco: she and her husband survived the massacre
he was far from the house but he heard everything
because he had gone along the factory [the tobacco dryer] to the eaves of the padule and he heard screaming
I am old - he was fifty-nine - you are a boy...
had his mother and sister who had stayed home and so he might have been interested in seeing what was going on
I’m not coming,“ and so he saw everything that happened
my dad in approaching the house was seen and called by the Germans who were in the camp next door and he crouched down and two Germans took him one from one side and one from the other
took him to a field and shot him and so it was left me and my mom alone
I was impressed with the ones who didn’t show up..
and they could tell they didn’t want me..
they were in plain clothes and they were covering their faces with a rag..
So much so that when they shot my father there was one together with the Germans who had to teach him the way to the marsh.”
One of the most touching testimonies is that of Marina Bini
largely massacred by the Nazi-Fascists: in the year of the massacre she was a child of only twelve years old
ten-year-old Aldo Pietro and six-year-old Giovanni Mario
but my mom repeated to me that it was nothing
but I got a good look at my Aunt Maggina and Norma and her little daughter who must have been four years old shot dead just as they were coming out of the hut with one of those wooden-handled guns that looked like a machine gun
and it came out the other side and I started to call my mom but she didn’t answer
and then I took my 11-month-old little brother who had also been wounded
Out there was my ten-year-old brother right in front of the hut
he had sortied out and been killed right there
and my six-year-old brother leaning against it sitting on the hut
So I started looking on the ground to see if anyone was alive
it was also burning the hut where the laundry and clothing taken from the house had been put
my eleven-month-old little brother had a hole in his thigh.”
as objects and goods: so much so that MuMeLoc does not exhibit any objects
These particular “objects” that are not touched
continue to accompany visitors throughout the continuation of the itinerary
which follows with the rooms dedicated to the recent developments of the Fucecchio Marshes (the section is entitled Stories in progress) and
with the “personal traces”: in fact
each visitor can leave a trace of himself on a special wall prepared for the purpose
which aims to keep the museum dynamic also through the direct involvement of those who visit it
And MuMeLoc is well aware that the discourse it wants to undertake is not exclusively local
“Inside the museum,” reads a presentation
“objects and memorabilia are not preserved
using multimedia technologies to evoke the signs left by the past in the forms of the Tuscan landscape and in the memory of its inhabitants
A local but not localist history and memory
but always considered paradigmatic of a broader history
national and international history.”
emphasizes the values of a community and promotes social cohesion
as argued by the great scholar Ivan Karp in his seminal essay on museology(Museum and Communities
edited together with Christine Mullen Kreamer and Steven Lavine)
it can certainly be said that the MuMeLoc in Cerreto Guidi fulfills this mission admirably
And it does so with a living and engaging pathway to make visitors fully participate
So that the past and memory can point the way to a better future
Pallavolo Certaldo, according to predictions, was defeated in Colle di Val d'Elsa by GEP Larghi Volley by 3-1 (20-25; 25-16; 25-16; 25-19). Only in the first set did the red and whites fight well and win, but then the locals changed gear and won in the next three sets. The Certaldo players therefore remained in the penultimate position in the standings, now destined for relegation.
In the men's field, the Jolly Volley Fucecchio was surprised at Rufina by Pol. Remo Masi who won 3-0 (25-18; 28-26; 25-17). However, the Fucecchiesi remain firmly third in the rankings and have guaranteed themselves permanence in the series C.

There’s something special about the look and feel of leather holsters. Bianchi agrees, and that’s why it has launched a new line of leather holsters for inside-the-waistband and outside-the-waistband carry. Known as the Old Tuscany line, it offers four options for shooters that will fit any carry style.
the sole IWB holster among the Old Tuscany line
It’s crafted from premium full grain leather and comes with one-piece construction
There’s a sturdy steel slip that will accommodate belts up to two inches
and the black metal slip features a U-shape retention point at the base
but you can apply light upward pressure to the base of the clip and slide the holster free
That’s a nice feature because it prevents having to take off your belt to remove the holstered firearm
The Cortona features an open-top design with ample backing to prevent the gun from digging into your flesh
which anyone who carries often will tell you is entirely unpleasant
Guns in the holster ride vertically with little or no forward cant
Next in the Old Tuscany line is the Fucecchio
the OWB Fucecchio ($94) is also made from premium full-grain leather but features a sharp 30-degree cant
which is beneficial for an open-top holster
and a hex wrench for adjusting it is included
The belt openings measure right at 1.75 inches
flat backing is designed to fit close to the body
The Lajatico ($92) is one of two new Old Tuscany holsters that feature a thumb strap for added security
it features good-looking full-grain leather construction and can be worn in a cross-draw position or strong side
and the Lajatico rides close to the body and could be worn concealed with a cover garment
There are two forward belt cutouts that allow you to select from either a near-vertical or canted position
and the one-inch-wide strap has a sturdy metal snap to ensure easy access and security
Last of the new Old Tuscany holsters is the Vicopisano ($144) which
is an OWB belt slide holster with thumb strap and dual belt cutouts that allow the wearer to adjust cant as needed
it can also be worn in a cross-draw carry position
The Vicopisano features bold accent stitching along the front
I’m an unabashed fan of leather holsters
My grandfather was a horseman and a part-time leatherworker
making bridles and customizing saddles for cutting and reining horses
I think the craftsmanship on these holsters is excellent
and the stitching is heavy enough to hold up for years of use
but the belt clip on the Cortona and the metal screws and thumb strap snaps on the other holsters are made from robust metal components
I could do without some of the exterior lines on these holsters that are designed to mimic the geometry of the gun within because I think simple
high-quality leather is all the aesthetics you need
although I admittedly didn’t wear any of them for weeks on end
But they all spent at least a couple days on my belt as I puttered around the range and office and did farm chores
I spent the most time carrying the Cortona
There’s a break-in period with new leather holsters
and I inserted and drew the G19 many times to make certain that the leather and gun were mating up well
The Cortona is a simple holster design that rides comfortably against the body
and the fit was good enough that the holster secured the gun in position without impeding the draw
The Cortona is a half-ounce heavier than my G19 Kydex IWB carry holster
and the Bianchi is slightly bulkier than a competing Kydex model simply due to the thickness of the leather
The holster I carried almost as much as the Cortona was the Fucecchio
I’ve never carried much on the small of the back
but if that’s your favored carry position
The cutouts in the holster comfortably fit a 1.5-inch belt; a 1.75-incher will fit tightly
The tension screw effectively squeezes the leather against the gun
The gun rides with the grip facing sharply upward
which works well when wearing a sport coat so long as you don’t have to sit down
The body-hugging design prevents the holster from tipping away from the body due to the weight of the gun
the leather is strong enough you can carry a full-size pistol this way without it sagging
and access is good—provided you are flexible enough to reach the straight-up grip
which is especially important on a small-of-back level 1 holster
although it is more striking with its bold exterior stitching and has the added thumb strap
The thumb-break design requires a downward press on the interior of the strap to unlock the gun
I much prefer this design to holsters with outside thumb breaks because I want the break to be as close to my body—and as far away from the bad guy—as possible
The dual-cant design with two belt cutouts that allow for a proper carry angle is a nice touch
I also like that these holsters can be worn in a cross-draw fashion
which makes them much more versatile for driving
biking or any activity where you’re seated
If I fall off my bike (which I rarely do) or roll my kayak (which I almost always do)
I want to know that there’s some form of retention holding my gun in place
Both the Vicopisano and Lajatico allow the pistol to ride comfortably close to the body without biting
and both are cut for optics—although not all red dots may fit properly
Guns with red dots that don’t extend beyond the front of the slide cut should fit
although I admittedly struggled with the names
But the names are the only awkward parts about these holsters
They’re available to fit a variety of guns
and you can expect the list to continue to grow
so if you’ve always wanted a really good leather holster at a really good value

Between April and June, the Bel Paese dresses in color. Let’s discover together all the Infiorate in Italy, the flower carpet festivals
Corpus Domini (Body of the Lord) is generally celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost, so the dates vary each year. It is a religious event accompanied by processions and deeply felt by the public. This year, it will happen on Sunday, June 22, so most of the Infiorate will take place on the weekend of June 21–22, 2025.
From Noale to Noto, passing through Spello, here we want to recommend the most beautiful and fascinating Infiorate in Italy you should not miss.

Infiorate in Northern Italy come alive in several towns; here are the most famous.

Let’s complete our tour of northern Italy in Emilia-Romagna, in the town of Alseno (Piacenza), a Roman-era village also home to the Cistercian Abbey of Chiaravalle, founded in 1136. Each year, the Abbey hosts the Infiorata for Corpus Christi. Unlike traditional street carpets, the event takes place indoors, along the central nave of the Abbey, where religious paintings are surrounded by elaborate floral frames. The peaceful Gothic cloister and frescoes make this event doubly worth a visit.

Moving to Central Italy, the flower festivals are truly numerous, and it’s hard to resist the temptation to see at least one.

Also not to be missed is the traditional Infiorata of Fucecchio (Florence) - the dates are also still to be determined. If you’re near there, it’s a great opportunity to take a trip to Florence: take advantage of the Florence Pass to explore the city - saving time and money.

The lush Umbria shines with its Infiorata in Spello
It features a route of one and a half kilometer
orchestrated by master infioratori who work on their designs throughout the year
the compositions have become increasingly refined
often conveying complex religious and social messages that require careful planning
The masters themselves collect the materials in the surrounding countryside
The images can range from 24 to 70 square meters and the floral carpets from a minimum of 12 meters to a maximum of 15 meters long
The 2025 Infiorata will take place on the weekend of Corpus Domini
but related events will begin the week before
when the streets of this picturesque Umbrian town come alive with floral artists of all ages
The Infiorata in nearby Assisi is less spectacular, but the town itself is well worth a visit, so why not go during the flower festival, which also usually takes place on the Corpus Domini weekend?

Among the most well-known Infiorate in the Marche region is that of Montefiore dell’Aso (Ascoli Piceno)
where a long floral carpet flows through the town
The origins of this tradition—and even the town's name—seem to be connected to the goddess Flora
Other notable events include the Infiorata of Cupra Montana (Ancona) and the one of Fermignano and Piobbico (Pesaro and Urbino)
a beautiful medieval village at the foot of the hill crowned by the Brancaleoni Castle
the event is called La Fiorita del Corpus Domini
and your eyes won’t be able to look away from the brilliant yellows of broom flowers blending with the reds of roses and the greens of savory
Also not to be forgotten is the Infiorata of Servigliano, in the province of Fermo, whose beautiful floral creations decorate the town streets and attract large crowds of local residents and visitors.

Our Grand Tour of the Infiorate brings us to Latium. Let’s start with the largest of them all, the one of Alatri (Frosinone). The event is particularly meaningful here, due to the presence in the old city center of a relic from the Eucharistic Miracle of 1228, depicted in frescoes on the cathedral walls and preserved within the church itself.
Also worth mentioning is the Infiorata of Bolsena, in the province of Viterbo, which will take place on June 22, 2025. Here too, stunning thousand hues tapestries will adorn the streets of the lake town, creating a moment of joy and wonder for all.

Let’s complete our floral journey through Central Italy in the Abruzzo region, with the Infiorata of the picturesque town of Roccascalegna (Chieti). Nestled among Abruzzo’s wild valleys, this village is also home to the famous and beautiful Castle. A local legend says that on Corpus Domini day, the first person to step on the noble floral carpet will be the parish priest, who then exits the church in a solemn procession carrying the Blessed Sacrament.

In Campania, two flower carpet festivals stand out, both located in the province of Benevento. In San Bartolomeo in Galdo, alongside flowers, petals, and other natural elements, the artworks are also decorated using colored salt, seeds, sawdust, and coffee grounds. A continuous stream of shapes and shades weaves through the historic center, extending out to the neighborhoods and even the outskirts.
The Infiorata of Cusano Mutri is also worth mentioning: thanks to the accurate work of volunteers who scour the countryside in the week leading up to the event, the village is filled with vibrant floral canvases, portraying not only religious themes but also social and contemporary topics.

Apulia also boasts its own Infiorata. Heading toward the “heel” of the peninsula, you’ll find Patù (Lecce), in the lower Salento region, at the southern tip of Capo di Leuca. Here, simple flowers with intense colors are used to reflect the character of this land. The petals can also be turned into a fine powder, used to define the intricate details of the designs. The Infiorata is a perfect occasion to visit this charming Salento village, dressed up for the feast of Corpus Domini.

Continuing into Calabria, we find the Infiorata of Potenzoni di Briatico (Vibo Valentia), a tiny hamlet of just 250 residents. Four neighborhoods challenge, doing their best to honor this important tradition that brings the village to life - especially younger people, who take part in designing and creating the images.

The end of our long floral journey lies in Sardinia
reaches its twelfth edition this year and is beloved for its spectacular celebration of springtime in the Ogliastra region
some of the most skilled flower artists in Italy fill the streets with intricate designs made of flower petals
Music and good food accompany the festivities
The Infiorate are a wonderful opportunity to discover lesser-known towns and villages and live their traditions
Take advantage of the occasion—whether to learn more about this ancient craft or simply to admire these enchanting works of art
They’re absolutely unmissable but just temporary
and most of the Infiorate festivals will take place that weekend (though

Fucecchio, for its part, will try to exploit the home field advantage to start strong and impose its own rhythm right away, with the intent of putting its opponents under pressure and directing the progress of the series in its favor. Pontedera will thus be called to a new test of maturity, in which it will have to respond promptly to the initial outbursts of the home team, keeping a cool head and lucidity in the most delicate moments.
The match, in fact, promises to be balanced and played above all on the mental level: emotional solidity, confidence in one's own means and the ability to remain focused in the decisive moments will make the difference. It will be essential for Juve to confirm the good things shown in the last outings, focusing on an aggressive defense, well-constructed attacks and a determined attitude. Every detail will count and a complete performance will be needed to achieve a positive result.
A work that combines the works of four artists
1971) occupies the entirety of Fourteen ’s small space in the beautiful village of Tellaro (La Spezia)
in Piazza Figoli: Fourteen thus becomes a contemporary Wunderkammer with the interventions of the four artists in harmonious dialogue
The exhibition is part of the programming that the Fourteen Art Contemporary Art Observatory
as it has for the past few years: titled Debacle
the schedule opened with the exhibition featuring the works of Regina José Galindo and Massimo Mazzone
continues through June 2.On the walls the public will find the two interventions by Maurizio Donzelli and Elena El Asmar
working on the idea of saturation of the environment
Both El Asmar and Donzelli have in fact reasoned around the variation of a theme that
distends the image in a kaleidoscopic mode
Gianluca Sgherri intervenes with some of his typical trompe l’oeil “piercing” the floor with some circular trapdoors that open onto unexpected scenarios
Gabriele Landi’s intervention overlaps with Elena and Maurizio’s at the point where they meet relaunching the dialogue
adding a further chromatic and three-dimensional reverberation to the whole
An untitled exhibition that transforms a space into a choral work of art
“The idea,” says Gabriele Landi
“was to invite several artists to exhibit simultaneously in the view of the Debacle as the name of the exhibition states
So he told me invite you in turn other artists to exhibit with you ..
I chose to invite three friends with whom I feel I have a bond of syntony in the modus operandi: Elena El Asmar
Besides the names I had no idea how to proceed
Gianluca and Maurizio we gave each other a ’telematic appointment and within minutes we came up with the idea
It was not a foregone conclusion the only one who knew all the artists was me
but I have to say that things turned right away

Ponte a Egola, 20 April 2025 – The second day of "Pasqualando" a review that can easily be defined as “Easter by pedaling” It opened with the first and second year rookie race (single start for 76 athletes). A grey morning on the circuit of the industrial area of Ponte a Egola, and a happy Easter for the Venetian Pietro Foffano of GS Mosole, first overall with a magnificent sprint in front of the whole group after a careful control of the race.
Satisfaction also for the second place Vincenzo Vito of Team Cesaro Franco-Ballerini as he was the best of the first year, and for him as for Foffano this in Tuscany was the third victory of the season. A lively race with several athletes who also tried to break away from the group along the circuit ring but the conclusion was with a compact group and Foffano was the best of all overall.
During the penultimate lap, Favilli made a breakaway and thus presented himself alone at the finish line on Via Del Cuoio, while his teammate Agnini went to take second place. The race, conducted at an average of over 44, had 92 runners taking part.

Nicole Bracco, born in 2011 (she was born in December), a brilliant standard-bearer for SC Maderno, does not forgive in Tuscany where she had already won in Castiglion Fibocchi in the province of Arezzo. In Ponte a Egola in the province of Pisa in the area of the leather and hides district, won the penultimate race of the 10 scheduled for “Pasqualando” ahead of the Tuscans Colzi, Giovannetti and Micchi and Aurora Cerame, Bracco's teammate and who was the first among the 13-year-old athletes.
About eighty young athletes took part in 10 laps of 22 km. The group was constantly compact, with some skirmishes and some escape attempts, then the epilogue with the victorious progression of Bracco to their fifth seasonal success.
