edition of the Sports-class Racing Series Lene Spaarwater of Chile won the women’s competition Good conditions allowed Meet Director Luigi Seravalli and the task committee to set four interesting tasks They allowed fast racing along ridges before heading into the flats where pilots had to make their own judgements and route choices In the teams race it was Ozone first and Cross Country second which is reflected in the overall series standings Ken Wilkinson (UK) was the lucky winner of a Skywalk glider in the prize draw The fourth and final event in this year’s series is the BGD edition over the mountains and out onto the flats From launch it was so clear that you could see Croatia Racing along the most northerly ridge gave stunning views of the Dolomites in the distance In the words of task committee maestro Pepe Malecki: We set a perfect task to let everyone enjoy the good weather a decisive task which saw 107 pilots in goal with a choice of several ridges to take and a 2,200m base Some very good thermals in the mountains were up to 4-5m/s Meantime out in the flats it didn’t work as well as the previous days The thermals were weaker at 1-2 m/s and most got no higher than 1,500m The race round the flats at the end shed quite a few famous faces The task chucked all the scores up in the air except for the first two In the words of today’s task winner Jose Rebelo: An awesome day as the fastest pilot round the course was 32.2 km/h This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just performed triggered the security movies or cares about our cultural history and heritage the salvation of films by George Eastman House is essential This was driven home with the recent announcement that the Eastman House preservation team is finishing work on a remarkable find created by the genius filmmaker two years before his masterpiece Too Much Johnson is a 66-minute silent film of the Mercury Theatre created by Welles in three parts; each part was intended to introduce one of the three acts of the William Gillette Broadway play of the same name The film includes performances by Joseph Cotton and Welles himself It was never used with the play and was considered incomplete It also was thought to have been destroyed in a fire in 1970 Too Much Johnson was discovered in a warehouse in Italy by the staff of Cinemazero Cinemazero gave the extremely rare film to Cineteca del Friuli in Gemona which forwarded it on to the Eastman House Though most of the reels of nitrate film were in “relatively good shape,” one reel was badly deteriorated Eastman House sent that reel to Haghefilm Digitaal a leading preservation lab in the Netherlands and they managed to salvage 96 percent of it it’s being finally assembled and prepared at Eastman House for the Oct which will feature live music by pianist Philip Carli and narration by Cherchi Usai “This is by far the most important film restoration by Eastman House in a very long time,” Usai says “Holding in one’s hands the very same print that had been personally edited by Orson Welles 75 years ago provokes an emotion that’s just impossible to describe.” never-shown silent film matters to preservationists or to knowledgeable film aficionados like myself previously unseen sketchbook by Van Gogh or Picasso blueprints for early houses by Frank Lloyd Wright or that famous lost briefcase of early Hemingway stories or even the 1962 Hamburg club recordings by the Beatles Such early works are clues to understanding the artistic development of great talents who later influenced our lives — and our world The find can also be compared to another Eastman House holding The Kubrick film can be considered juvenile and a bit pretentious when compared to his later gems and even the filmmaker wanted it destroyed But the Eastman House and film scholars know it has great value in understanding Kubrick’s later work on such films as Paths of Glory a film routinely found at the top of most lists of the greatest-ever films the discovery and restoration of Too Much Johnson is momentous To honor the 50th anniversary of the historic 1963 Civil Rights march on Washington public screening of the PBS documentary The March at the Little Theatre six days before the film’s presentation of WXXI-TV (channel 21.1 The March tells the story of the important event and features interviews with such participants as Julian Bond and Andrew Young and commentary by the likes of Harry Belafonte who were in the crowd of 250,000 at the capital that day led by WXXI news correspondent LeShea Agnew with special guests Walter Cooper and Daan Braveman who participated in the March on Washington researcher who has played leadership roles with the national NAACP and helped found the local Urban League It’s a great example of the synergy that’s now possible between WXXI and the Little Joshua Bassey The Paragliding World Cup Association have taken the decision to cancel the Gemona PWC round scheduled to take place at the beginning of July the local organisers were still unable to guarantee it would be able to run The PWCA released the following statement: It is with great regret that we have to cancel the Gemona World Cup which should have taken place at the beginning of July with the full understanding of the World Cup Committee is unable to give permission for the event to take place we are delighted that Luigi Seravalli and his team in Gemona would like to host a World Cup next year and look forward to enjoying the wonderful flying there next Spring not to mention the excellent Italian cuisine I would like to take this opportunity to thank Luigi for all his hard work organising and rescheduling this event is the risk of a second wave of the virus which could lead to a pilot being diagnosed with Covid during a competition and everyone having to be put into quarantine Rest assured we are still as keen as ever to relaunch the World Cup when we can We are keeping all our options open to organize events to replace those cancelled as soon as possible Local organisers the world over have offered replacement venues so that one day you will all be able to fly together again Until then we hope that you are all enjoying getting your wings back in the air if you can being careful and looking after yourselves www.pwca.org Stephan Morgenthaler was the winner of task 5 of the PWC in Gemona a tight and fast 66km course that he competed at an average speed of 36km/h Seiko Fukuoka-Naville was first woman again for the fourth day running The Cross Country Magazine team were first for the second day in a row: congratulations to Seb Ospina With storms forecast for later on in the afternoon a shorter 66km task was set taking the pilots on a triangular tour of the flats often with punchy cores giving strong climbs Buoyant lifty lines meant that the leaders didn’t have to stop to climb much For Chris Bevins it was more like flying in Colombia than the Alps Out in the flats there were climbs that kicked off low down letting the pilots push more in the flats than they have done so far this week It was a struggle across the flats towards the end but there was a thermal just before the factory that worked Seb Ospina and Stephan Morgenthaler managed to pull away from the others and the race to End of Speed was on Stephan crossed ESS 13 seconds ahead of Seb Task five was the day that the World Cup went to the opera as the lead gaggle arrived in goal three minutes later to the dramatic sound of ‘The Ride of the Valkyries.’ Very befitting music for another day of dramatic racing Jose Rebelo summed up the day in three words: “Fun and Fast” making it the fastest race of the week so far Today’s winner is therefore the one with a combination of the best speed/time points and lead out points Top 3 speed/time points winners – the fastest pilots round the course Top 3 leading point baggers – those who were in the lead the most "Combining his experience in banking law with such a well-known European institution was a marriage made in heaven." Thomas is a European through and through and has always been interested in European matters and law He thinks it stemmed from his time as a student in Saarbrücken a German city located only 100km from Luxembourg and closely linked to Europe’s development The offer of a position at the European Investment Bank (EIB) which is a body of the EU as well as an investment and development bank “I was offered the opportunity to work on a diversified range of transactions including funds quasi-equity transactions and subordinated debt” Combining his experience in banking law with such a well-known European institution was a marriage made in heaven even if his colleagues bet he would miss Paris and return Four and a half years down the line Thomas still enjoys his role “EIB’s in-house counsel focus is very much transactional I lead the negotiations with the borrower with the help of an external legal counsel (where one is appointed),” he explains He loves the fact that he sees a transaction from start to finish (although there is constant juggling from one to another) and is empowered to take some risk-taking decisions His role also means he gets to work with a variety of people in the bank giving him a really rounded perspective on any transaction A typical day will include regular tasks such as conference calls on transactions dealing with amendments and waivers requested by the client and appointing law firms Thomas also gets to travel to attend official signature ceremonies with senior figures in the Bank and was delighted to attend one on the French island of La Réunion “A lot of discussions have been going on since the 2016 UK referendum and as the UK is one of the shareholders of the Bank we are (like many people and institutions) eagerly awaiting the outcome of negotiations and the result of the UK General Election in December” Thomas sees parallels between the culture of the EIB and WFW be an expert and satisfy clients while at the same time being courteous to clients and colleagues alike “I am happy to go to the office every morning!” Thomas is not the only former WFW lawyer at the EIB Others include Penny Gemona and Borja Oxangoiti Thomas had an eclectic list of possible careers before he became a lawyer though he has no regrets about his final choice He advises people to enjoy what they do and work with nice people move if you are not happy and set priorities as you won’t be able to make everyone happy remembering the many people he so enjoyed working with then – Laurence Martinez-Bellet to name a few – and some of whom he works with now DOWNLOAD PDF Please wait while you are redirected to the right page..
