I had a puncture on the climb and it was tough to come back in the peloton “The guys supported me in the best way that I could do it Milan had been getting closes day by day at Tirreno with third place on the opening time trial and second in yesterday’s sprint But he’s now iced an already successful week with a win the leader’s jersey and an extension of his lead in the points jersey it’s a team victory,” said Milan he’ll lose the blue jersey on stage 5 but will switch focus to working for Lidl-Trek GC leader Tao Geoghegan Hart The Brit will challenge the likes of Ayuso, Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) and Jai Hindley (Bora-Hansgrohe) on the tough route from Torricella Sicura to Valle Castellana which features the hors-categorie San Giacomo (11.9 km at 6.2%) climb 25km from the finish Stage 4 of Tirreno-Adriatico looked like the perfect day for a breakaway to challenge the peloton and just three kilometres into the 207km stage from Arrone to Giulianova six men decided to form the day’s breakaway Making up the group were Lorenzo Quartucci (Corratec-Vini Fantini) Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility) and Alex Tolio (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè) They would take on the monstrous 17.2-kilometre-long Valico di Castelluccio climb which has an average gradient of 5% and opened up the long stage through the Apennines Their gap would grow throughout the first few hours of racing on another cold day in the peloton but it did ebb and flow as the road went up and down It would go well north of five minutes but came down at points as the sprinter’s teams navigated the climbs and tried to peg them back It was no foregone conclusion on the fourth day of racing at the Race of the Two Seas with the six me out in front not completely faltering on the run for home They would maintain their gap throughout the mainly flat final 80km of the day While most sprinters were holding position well in the peloton on the climbs Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan) started to struggle on the climbs and was getting onto his team radio He would ultimately play no part in the final sprint after dropping in and out of the peloton throughout the day At the 30km to go point and approaching the Adriatic Sea for the first time this week the gap for the leaders had dropped to just over one minute This is where a split came in the break as Kamp Abrahamsen and Maestri made their shot for glory They would hold their advantage of around 50 seconds as the race reached the finish location of Giulianova and started the circuit around the coastal town In the trio’s favour was a downhill run to the line but their advantage had fallen to 31 seconds with the catch looking likely Alpecin-Deceuninck and Intermarché-Wanty swapped turns in the chase to try and reel back the trio and they had them in sight around the final few corners Kamp pulled the plug first once he knew it was over but Abrahamsen didn’t give up and attacked away from Meistri under the 1km to go banner He got a decent gap around the final corner and the peloton behind began to look at each other with most of the leadouts burned in the chase Pidcock held the front position and hesitated before launching his sprint in pursuit of the Uno-X Mobility rider but with Girmay in his wheel and Philipsen and Milan ready to chase Tim Merlier (Soudal-QuickStep) was one of the top sprinters dropped in the run for home Philipsen's initial kick was strong as he hit the wind on the right-hand side of the road but Milan had enough seated power to round the Belgian and take his fourth WorldTour victory.  Results powered by FirstCycling during which time he also wrote for Eurosport Prior to joining the team he reported on races such as Paris-Roubaix and the Giro d’Italia Donne for Eurosport and has interviewed some of the sport’s top riders in Chloé Dygert he spends the majority of his time watching other sports – rugby You don't have permission to access the page you requested What is this page? The website you are visiting is protected. For security reasons this page cannot be displayed The IWBF Europe's EuroCup Finals start this weekend (Friday 26 April - It had been rumoured on the eve of the race that Jonathan Milan had come to this Tirreno-Adriatico with a knot to untie: namely After his exploit at last year’s Giro d’Italia which included a stage win and the Maglia Ciclamino the Lidl-Trek rider was called upon to confirm his sprinting ambitions His victory in Giulianova marks his second of the season after he opened his tally at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana last month If competition in the latter was rather limited he is confronting himself with the crème de la crème of fast wheels the ideal context to put his growth to test And what remarkable feedback he is giving himself and the team not only because of today’s masterful stage win pipping Jasper Philipsen on the finish line in Giulianova but also for the way the Italian interpreted and tackled all the previous stages Just like we rightfully extolled Philipsen as the best sprinter in the world we should just as vehemently celebrate Milan as probably the greatest sprinting talent out there Jonny took the Belgian’s wheel and skipped him in the last 50 metres beating him by half a bike length while still seated in the saddle This tells us one thing: Jonathan Milan from Buja is among the strongest sprinters in the world were anything but easy to interpret due to somewhat tricky finishes while Milan was invariably there fighting for glory today he timed it to perfection and overtook none other than Philipsen himself Tomorrow he will enjoy a day in the Maglia Azzurra (which he will probably lose at the end of the stage) but whatever the outcome of this Tirreno-Adriatico which we are sure he will bring to bear in the coming events Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility) – the only survivor of a six-man breakaway – also deserves a special mention the Norwegian had enough left in the tank to try one last burst inside the final kilometre He was denied the joy of victory by 40 merciless metres let us thank him for making this finale all the more electrifying After almost nine months of hiatus, Italy saw the first games of wheelchair basketball back on court as FIPIC's Final 4 of the 2020 Italian Cup took place in Grottaglie on Friday 13 and Saturday 14th November Iit was UnipolSai Briantea84 Cantù who took home their fifth consecutive national cup by beating the reigning Italian Champions S It followed disruptions in the run to the finale weekend of the competition which saw the withdrawal of two teams with GSD Porto Torres withdrawing on the Wednesday ahead of the competition but were replace by newly promoted Farmacia Pellicanò Reggio Calabria and subsequently the withdrawal of Amicacci Giulianova on the Thursday this time the short notice meant a replacement could not be arranged in time Due to Amicacci Giulianova not being replaced S Stefano Avis were awarded the 20-0 forfeit in the first semi-final whilst UnipolSai Briantea84 Cantù defeated Farmacia Pellicanò Reggio Calabri (68-31) in the other semi-final on the Friday Stefano Avis versus UnipolSai Briantea84 Cantù was held on Saturday morning airiing live on RaiSport TV which was widely expected after such a long break but it was Cantù who edged out to a 7-point lead at half time winning the first quarter (12-19) and tieing the second quarter (14-14) It wasn’t until the third quarter Cantù took control of the game giving them a 10 point advantage heading into the final quarter (35-45) A lead on which they continued to build at the start of the fourth putting the game out of reach for Stefano as Cantù ran in 45-63 winners Cantù’s Adolfo Berdun took MVP of the match with 17 points “The greatest satisfaction is seeing the fruits of the work done so far with the intention of immediately bringing it to our side convinced of our match plan: and in the end we were right I am convinced that this will be only the first of many successes together with this group of wonderful guys The next games of wheelchair basketball in Italy will are set for the 9 January with the start of the Serie A and Serie B championships which were postponed in light of the evolution of the current health emergency For further information about the wheelchair nearly 58 hours buried beneath meters of snow by sucking on glass and mud-filled ice The initial shock was so loud and the force so strong that the couple — 22-year-old Giorgia Galassi and her boyfriend 25-year-old Vincenzo Forti — said on Wednesday that they were convinced it was another earthquake rocking the luxury Hotel Rigopiano They never considered the threat of an avalanche at the snow-bound resort We didn’t know until the firefighters told us We thought the whole time it was a very strong earthquake,” Galassi said in her parents’ living room in the town of Giulianova She wore a necklace of an angel that a friend had just given her Galassi and Forti were two of the nine people pulled out alive after the avalanche on Wednesday last week in which 29 others died but never gave up hope that they would survive They had arrived at the luxury hotel the evening before the deadly avalanche they were gathered with the other guests ready to leave sitting in a tea room or standing in the adjacent entry hall waiting for a snowplow to clear the 9km road through Gran Sasso park so they could go home Galassi said she was particularly fearful of the temblors that had started that morning and had waited outside for a while but she went back into the hotel due to the cold and after the hotel management’s assurances that it had resisted previous earthquakes It wasn’t long before a loud roar announced the tragedy “It all started from a rumble and then everything collapsed a roar,” Forti told a news conference at a hotel later on Wednesday After the shock of finding themselves beneath a wicker chair that protected them from a beam Galassi and Forti said the first relief was realizing they were not alone “Then we heard another voice and we were relieved.” they had just 50cm between their heads and the ceiling The space was less than that of a single bed they could see ice through a hole in the glass panel that they could reach if they stretched out “At times there was even glass and mud [in the ice] The young couple huddled together in the tiny space sitting at first and then lying down to sleep using Galassi’s fur coat and a blanket they found nearby for warmth Forti said heat from the fireplace near where they had been sitting kept the temperatures comfortable for many hours Rescuers have also told journalists that the survivors were insulated by the meters of snow on top of them another survivor on the other side of the beam Bronzi had a watch and helped them keep track of time They could also hear a mother with her son nearby who turned out to be Adriana Vranceanu and her eight-year-old son Gianfilippo was outside when the avalanche hit and sounded the alarm was pulled from the rubble with the two other children staying at the hotel who spent nearly two days alone together in a billiard room Galassi said she passed the time in prayer “I don’t think I have ever prayed so much in my life,” Galassi said Despite their conviction that help would arrive there were moments of despair and they took turns comforting each other Galassi said they first heard rescuers at about 11am on Friday last week — nearly two days after the avalanche — when they heard Vranceanu speaking to a voice they had not heard before “When I heard she was speaking with someone I yelled: ‘Who are you speaking to?’ She said: ‘I am speaking with Mauro They came to save us.’ They said to stay calm “We started to yell and to knock to make ourselves heard and after a while he also came to talk to us,” Galassi said Galassi credited Forti’s strength for helping keep her spirits up along with his focus on seeking solutions to their predicament She said the ordeal had only strengthened their bond “We said even this happened to us and we got out together,” Galassi said The couple said they were relieved to hear all four children staying at the hotel had survived but they are haunted by the deaths of so many of their companions because I knew these people and I saw the terror in their eyes Durazzo (Durrës) – Tirana (Tiranë) Tirana (Tiranë) – Tirana (Tiranë) TUDOR ITT Valona (Vlorë) – Valona (Vlorë) Alberobello (Pietramadre) – Lecce Ceglie
