The initiative complements a series of educational and informative activities related to the numismatic collection with the intention of broadening interest in this specialized area of history and art complement the nucleus of specimens from the Alessandro Magnaguti collection currently on deposit at the museum by Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena which has guaranteed their preservation and public enjoyment since last year The two coins represent an enrichment in historical and documentary terms completing the almost exhaustive survey of the Gonzaga coinage they are a Thaler of Vincenzo I Gonzaga and a Ducatone of Francesco Gonzaga of Castiglione delle Stiviere both examples of Mantuan monetary production at a crucial moment in its technical and aesthetic evolution The first of the two specimens is a thaler minted during the rule of Vincenzo I Gonzaga The specimen features on the obverse the profile of the duke in armor depicted in half-length and accompanied by sword and scepter with the Gonzaga heraldic coat of arms in the center It is the only Gonzaga coin designed for the eastern market and its rarity is such that only one other specimen is known kept in Venice in the Papadopoli numismatic collection The work of mintmaster David Gauger of Augsburg a central figure in the modernization of minting techniques in Mantua it was Gauger who introduced the first equipment for minting at the press in the Gonzaga mint which made possible a level of design definition never previously achieved The other specimen that has just come to the museum is a silver Ducatone accurately attributed to the year 1605 also known in only one other specimen preserved at the Münzkabinett in Vienna bears an inscription on the reverse that has long generated misunderstanding: for years it was read as IN ECTORE TROIA while the correct inscription is IN PECTORE TROIA disguised himself as a woman and hid on the island of Syrus The allusion appears to be in line with the figure of Prince Francesco Gonzaga who aspired to assert himself in military endeavors and not in a lifestyle marked by luxury and quietude as was the case for other members of the nobility of the time The decision of the Ducal Palace of Mantua to enhance its numismatic section is part of a broader strategy of expanding and deepening the collections but also documentary materials and material evidence such as coins The estimated value of each of the two coins may exceed 100,000 euros in the international market where similar specimens emerge in specialized auctions the purpose of the operation is not commercial The integration between the collection nuclei already present and the new loans makes it possible to further refine the reading of dynastic political and economic events related to the 42Freeway first wrote about the plans for this project back in August of last year which will turn the largest 8.4 acre portion of the property into a Tractor Supply store including its signature meeting minutes the site will feature an outdoor garden center with 16 foot fenced in storage area where customers can drive-thru for large pickups.  It will also include a forage storage area for hay and a bulk propane fill up area Tractor Supply likes to feature larger seasonal products such as yard tractors snow blowers and other equipment… so a larger sidewalk area immediately to the front of to be developed on Woodbury-Glassboro Road next to Wawa.  Several retail tenants are signed on (with more spaces available) and a larger 29,000 sf medical building with lower level parking is also planned 42Freeway first covered plans for this project back in November of 2020.  Not much took place at the site over the next few years… I would imagine partially because of the pandemic years but also the project has continued to evolve The version that they are moving forward with keeps most of the development focused closer to the front of the property and adds large water retention basins to the rear The design will offer an entrance point off of Woodbury-Glassboro Road of course but then also a side entrance from Lambs Road which will be positioned between Dollar General and Wawa With Woodbury-Glassboro Road defining “ground level” the Mantua Plaza project site immediately dropped down from the sidewalk… it was a somewhat deep recessed area which has required significant amounts of clean fill to be brought in to raise the site up closer in line with the roadway Which means its a smart move to put the water management basins in the rear where they likely wont have to raise that portion of the property The project site plan shows four buildings… three retail and the one larger medical building In the front left of the property is the four-unit retail building (closest to Wawa) and immediately next to that is a space for a freestanding fast food restaurant.  The right side also features commercial space but presented in an “L”-shaped configuration And positioned in the back closest to that Lambs Road side access a 29,000 square foot medical office building is planned which will include lower level parking garage Developers expect that with the popular Route 55 exit located less than a mile away and an estimated 24,000 vehicles a day driving along Woodbury-Glassboro Rd… the new development will prove very successful for retailers and medical tenants Also considering that just one mile away is the entrance to the upcoming Edelman Fossil Park of Rowan University.  Opening in March of 2025 this globally recognized museum should bring thousands of new visitors to the area This project is being presented by Soloff Realty and Development At this time they are not offering timeframes for the project construction start and opening but clearly the investment in this site grading work indicates they will likely move directly into developing at least that first multi-unit building For information on becoming a tenant you can reach out to David Dunkleman whose contact information is provided at the project website While the plan has evolved over the last few years it has always featured a multi-unit building at the front of the property closest to Wawa… and one name has been attached to that portion of the planned building since I first learned of it… Dunkin Dunkin will take the left end of the building which gives it the ability of having a drive-thru.  This locates them next to the popular Wawa convenience store The same building features 4 units and the SDR leasing brochure the tenants also signed on are Nail Spa and Verizon.  For this building there is one spot remaining… Directly next to Dunkin The site plans allocates space for a 3,200 square foot fast food restaurant but it seems there is none signed on at this time Typically at this stage the developer has been approved for the general concept but as tenants sign on they likely can adjust plans to meet the needs of the individual prospective tenants The larger 16,400sf building on the right is also targeted for retail and units can be divided to meet tenants’ needs Soloff is also actively looking for tenants to move into the larger medical office building new facility designed specifically for producing fish eggs This addition aims to enhance the hatchery’s capacity to support Utah’s fish population Before anglers can boast about their big catches Fish eggs produced at a new dedicated facility in Mantua describes the process as “kind of cool “What we do is produce nothing but eggs We ship those out to other hatcheries with warmer water,” Smith explained and then they’ll stock them out into public waters.” “We do 6 million eggs every single year That’s 30 percent of the overall quota for the state so it’s a lot of eggs,” he said These eggs are primarily for Bonneville cutthroat and rainbow trout species that are popular among Utah’s fishing community who grew up in Mantua and whose father managed the old hatchery He was pretty jealous of what we have here,” Smith joked but this one is dedicated to ensuring Utah’s fish population remains healthy According to the Division of Wildlife Resources, more than 241,000 fishing licenses were sold in Utah in 2023.  With fishing being a popular activity in the state, Smith believes the new facility will help ensure that lakes and ponds across Utah continue to be stocked with trout As Smith impounded streams where we put fry that we got from the federal government,” DWR Aquatic Section Assistant Chief Craig Schaugaard said “We opened our first traditional fish hatchery — where we produced our own eggs and used raceways like we have today — in Murray in 1899.” There are now 13 facilities across Utah, with construction underway to build a new Loa Fish Hatchery by 2027 The bulk of the fish stocked in 2024 — 11,086,947 fish of the total 12,831,218 fish — came from these division hatcheries The remaining fish were transported from disease-free certified hatcheries across the U.S This new facility at the Mantua hatchery includes: The facility produces roughly six million trout eggs a year about 30% of the total trout stocked in Utah the division began construction on a new building to increase efficiency of the hatchery A Utah Angler Survey on Blue Ribbon fisheries last year indicates that in 2023 Utah anglers spent an average of $188 per fishing trip With an estimated 418,000 licensed resident anglers and a median of 14 trips per year the total direct expenditure related to angling in Utah was calculated at $1 billion annually This expenditure supports a total industry output of $2 billion More than 1,600 in the eastern part of Aurora and in Mantua township are reported to be without power and power is estimated to be restored at 3:30 p.m Several other areas also are experiencing power outages Summit, Medina and Portage counties have been under several weather alerts throughout the day MANTUA, Utah — Mantua police chief Dakota Midkiff has returned to active duty, weeks after he was placed on leave after a video showed him involved in what appeared to be a violent interaction with a 76-year-old man The Mantua Town Council voted unanimously to allow Midkiff to be taken off administrative leave and resume duties last Friday Midkiff was caught on video taking Richard Shulze to the ground before arresting him some of whom filed a petition calling for Midkiff’s removal the town’s attorney told the council that the Shulze appeared to be resisting and that weighed in favor of the use of force Shulze has since been charged in Mantua’s justice court with a misdemeanor count of interfering with police As part of his return to duty following the incident Midkiff must take remedial training of no less than 40 hours 6:56 PM | Updated: 9:40 pm BY DANIEL WOODRUFF MANTUA — The police chief in a small northern Utah town is on paid leave — and residents are calling for him to be fired — over concerns about his actions during a recent arrest Mantua Police Chief Dakota Midkiff was placed on leave on October 7 The mayor declined to comment on the specifics of the case but confirmed the chief’s leave was connected to the arrest just days earlier of 76-year-old Richard Schulze which some residents have decried as unwarranted and violent Midkiff — who has led Mantua’s small police department since 2022 — responded to a 911 hangup call near 30 West 200 North just before 11 a.m The situation ended up involving allegations of child abuse Midkiff wrote that Schulze showed up and said he was related to the family involved Mantua police chief Dakota Midkiff is pictured in a July 2024 file photo the chief claimed Schulze became “argumentative,” was “yelling,” and “refused to comply.” “I decentralized him and he continued to resist I requested for more units to respond to my location and Richard began to comply,” Midkiff wrote in the probable cause statement “I successfully placed him in handcuffs without further incident.” However multiple residents have alleged on social media that the arrest was unnecessary and excessive KSL TV obtained a photo of the incident showing Schulze’s face bloodied Schulze was booked into jail for interfering with an officer and released the next day He told KSL TV Tuesday he didn’t want to comment on the situation yet Multiple Mantua residents said they’re shocked by what happened — and who it happened to Most of them didn’t want to speak on the record “I don’t feel like he’s the kind of person that would be disrespectful in any kind of way.” Now a petition is filling up with signatures calling for Chief Midkiff to be fired Reached for comment in response to this story Midkiff said in an email that he was “not permitted to release any information” since the case is currently under investigation He added that the town of Mantua anticipates releasing information on the outcome of the investigation on Thursday at its regular council meeting Mantua has had a turbulent history with police chiefs, going through several in just the last few years. Shane Zilles lost his job as police chief in 2019 after getting arrested for driving under the influence Former chief Michael Castro was dismissed in 2021 after just months on the job amid an uproar over ticket quotas for officers A source previously told KSL TV Castro did not support those quotas and other officers resigned after Castro was dismissed Midkiff was then appointed as Mantua’s police chief in 2022 wouldn’t say anything else about this case other than that it’s currently being reviewed while Midkiff is on leave one full-time officer and one part-time officer continue to patrol the town Follow @danielmwoodruff Box Elder County — A physical altercation between a 76-year-old Mantua resident and the town's police chief which neighbors say left the elderly man bloodied and concussed may prove to be a breaking point for the small struggling police department with a checkered history residents packed the chambers and foyer of the Mantua Town Hall some calling for the termination of Chief Dakota Midkiff who is currently on administrative leave pending review The town attorney was called in to walk through segments of almost three hours of body camera footage not yet released to the public Cars lined the grass and pebble easements on both sides of the road leading up to the city building Neighbors shuffled in to find the wooden chairs in the cramped waiting area occupied others standing along walls and in the doorway to the council chambers Some even sat on the ground in the singular aisle leading to the curved committee table "He's still beat up," said Tiffany Reimann "He still doesn't want people seeing what he looks like He's in a pretty dark spot right now because of what happened." Schulze had walked over to his daughter's house where Midkiff had responded to a domestic call who family says was an officer for the Division of Wildlife Resources for over 30 years left the property as instructed by Midkiff but returned to the consternation of the chief became "argumentative" and was yelling "I approached him and instructed him to place his hands behind his back He refused to comply with my instructions and resisted me trying to place his hands behind his back Town attorney Seth Tate told the audience at the meeting that the two men "struggle while standing up for a few seconds does not show when Schultz's "head must have hit the concrete." Photos taken by family and neighbors appear to show Schulze's head bloodied with wounds darkened into plum-colored bruising across his face One of those photos was passed around during the meeting in a cellophane sleeve One man told KSL.com he visited Schulze a day after that photo was taken and said his injuries looked even worse An undated photo of the injuries 74-year-old Rick Schulze sustained after Mantua Police Chief Dakota Midkiff arrested him Oct KSL.com)"I have definitely seen elderly people with much more benign looking injuries that have died as a result of those injuries," said Joe Bach Reimann's version of events differed from the booking report "Midkiff made a mountain out of a molehill," she said "Instead of keeping the peace in our town and keeping things safe he made things completely out of control that day." Tate provided a legal analysis of the use of force which was "frankly against my better judgement," he said given how recent the incident happened and how little time the town has had to investigate He played a 3.5 minute clip of body camera footage and presented a preliminary finding The severity of the crime being investigated may not have warranted Midkiff's use of force but he said the perceived threat Schulze posed and his alleged resistance to arrest both lean in favor of Midkiff's use of force being justified A petition started by Reimann has been passed around since that day which she estimates has 240 signatures so far The town will be sending it to the Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training which certifies Utah police officers and is conducting its own review discussed the arrest of her neighbor Rick Schulze at a Town Council meeting Thursday KSL.com)"I can't fire someone without due process; I'm sorry," said Mayor Terry Nelson and so that's why we're going about it this way were concerned about the way town residents were handling the issue "It's actually embarrassing," said city employee Dave Ornelas "for the people of Mantua who chose to defame convict and decide a sentence on merely speculation one side of the story and incomplete facts." who recently retired from the Mantua Justice Court said Midkiff is innocent until proven guilty "I know some of the town employees have been harassed," Johnson said and questioned why town officials were making statements about an ongoing investigation Asked to comment before Thursday's meeting Midkiff told KSL-TV he was "not permitted to release any information" since the case is under investigation The real problem with the town's police force is much deeper than this single incident "The best law enforcement officers come at a premium," he said "Because our budget cannot support the best either can't get or can't keep employment in a bigger city." In a statement given to the Box Elder News Journal Midkiff began his career in January 2020 with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office but graduated from Law Enforcement Officer Academy as recently as April 2021 He worked as a part-time police officer with Wendover Police Department on the weekends before working part-time in Mantua under former Chief Craig Hamer Hamer left the West Jordan Police Department after he was given a termination letter for numerous disciplinary issues At the time, a source within Mantua told KSL officers were being pressured to bring in more revenue through writing more tickets Officers were allegedly penalized when ticket revenues went down drawing protest from Castro and other staffers Several officers submitted resignations after Castro's dismissal Before Castro, Shane Zilles was the police chief, but he was arrested and subsequently fired for impaired driving in February 2019 Bach said as the population around the reservoir grows from "a small town to a bigger small town," it might be time to consider outsourcing policing to the county we are in a very difficult time of transition," he said "If we can put our pride and tradition aside and look at the facts we may be much better off as a community to contract these services." is being asked to conduct an independent evaluation of the incident family owned Driscoll Foods is looking to expand its presence in South Jersey with two warehouse buildings proposed for Mantua Township in property across the street from the former Sony complex (Lambs Road).  UPDATE: Article was updated to include official response from the GCL project team regarding this warehouse project and impacts on GCL plans for a station at the same site The project looks to gain Mantua Township Land Use approval at a hearing scheduled for next week One interesting aspect about the proposal that might not be readily apparent to some is that the unrelated Glassboro-Camden Line (GCL) project documents show a train station is also planned for this area at Lambs Road with the associated large parking area and garage for the train station being at the exact same location as the smaller Driscoll warehouse building Seems two different projects are interested in the same property the location is about 28 acres of undeveloped land across the street from the former Sony Music complex (to the North The property has direct frontage and road access to Lambs Road via the existing Columbia Drive The site is somewhat an upside down “U” starting at Lambs Road and then wrapping around behind an existing warehouse building continuing East behind the Cloud 10 Car Wash and the recently closed Rite Aid According to the documents submitted for the warehouse approval all aspects of this warehouse project are on the undeveloped properties (other than extending Columbia Drive into the new warehouse parking lots) It’s an interesting property to describe because other than about 650 feet of road frontage on Lambs Road the bulk of the acreage sits behind other buildings on Lambs Road (to the South) … and then the Conrail railroad tracks to the West The properties are zoned as Industrial District so the warehouses are a permitted use on the properties That being said there are some requested variances such as building height buffer distance and loading berth sizes… which require the approval from the Land Use Board I will soon start my coverage of the Glassboro-Camden Line (GCL) which is proposed along the existing railroad tracks on the western border of the properties it is a proposed commuter light rail line with the goal to connect Glassboro with Camden (and in Camden offer pedestrian access to the existing Patco) The GCL project includes approximately fourteen railroad stations along the way in communities within the counties of Camden and Gloucester So again this article is not about the full GCL project… I will be getting to it soon But I noticed a crossover aspect of the warehouse proposal and GCL projects As part of my research for the start of my GCL coverage I’ve been studying the train stations and visiting the locations ahead of an introductory “this is what the GCL is all about” article One of the key GCL project documents to describe the project scope is their Final Environmental Impact Statement which lists all of the stations and locations in the Chapter 1 Project Description section And it grabbed my attention that the GCL Project Team is planning the “Mantua-Pitman” train station where the tracks meet up with Lambs Road… With a significant GCL train station parking area/ garage planned exactly where Driscoll foods is looking to build a 72,000 square foot warehouse The GCL document describes the “Mantua-Pitman” station parking as a garage facility initially supporting 475 cars and then 15 years later… 1,200 cars Clearly both large projects cannot be developed on the same site UPDATE: official statement from the GCL project team below regarding this warehouse project and plans for a GCL Train Station at the same site: The GCL Project Team is aware of the proposed development at this location and its potential implications for the planned public parking lot Although we have made several efforts to engage with the developer to discuss these considerations the GCL Project Team remains committed to proactive coordination with stakeholders involved in adjacent real estate developments I fully understand that it’s one of the challenges of planning a large Government sponsored project such as the Glassboro-Camden Line which can take many years of analysis and design to get to the point of funding and development… and during that time the rest of the world is moving forward with their own plans Compare that to private companies like Wawa who when planning a new store which can take years to gain approvals Wawa (or it’s developers) will simply go in and buy up the properties or lock them in with agreements. but the Government needs to do full analysis and designs before they can acquire properties So it is possible that plans have already changed for this GCL Mantua-Pitman Station (beyond the published Final EIS document) but won’t be made available until this current Preliminary Engineering and Design Phase is completed (est 2025) I should note that this appears to already be the second location for this station… as older documents from 2013 show the train station was planned slightly North The public notice for the warehouse meeting was put in the South Jersey Times on Thursday November 7th just a few days after the election which I then noticed over the long holiday weekend Mantua does a good job with putting Land Use applications and associated site plans online ahead of Land Use meetings but Driscoll Foods documents were not available online until this morning (I emailed about them over the weekend)… so with a few days to the meeting I wanted to get this online Driscoll Foods Warehouses – emotions were shown during Thursday night’s town council of Mantua where people have been gathering signatures to get their chief fired after accusations of excessive force It was standing room only at the Mantua Town Council, many eager to hear the town’s initial findings in the police’s chief arrest of 76-year-old Mantua man Rick Schulze The town’s attorney showed police body camera video of the Oct 2024 to hear the findings from the attorney’s office Mantua police chief Datoka Midkiff had responded to a 911 hang-up call at the home of Schulze’s daughter who neighbors said called her dad to come to the house The video shows Schulze doing this at first but then walking back toward the chief and the chief knocks Schulze to the ground Photos taken by one of Schulze’s neighbors show him bloody and bruised from the encounter Photo from neighbors showing Rick Schulze being arrested by Datoka Midkiff on Oct “I was super upset to see my sweet neighbor beat up by the cop unnecessarily It wasn’t right,” said Tiffany Reimann Mantua resident Tiffany Reimann gathered more than 200 signatures to get the chief fired found the chief’s actions so far were reasonable “It appears as though the injury to Mr Schulze appears to have happened due to the fact that there was some resistance during the arrest and in the takedown we feel the use of force was reasonable in this particular situation,” said Seth Tate speaking about the reasoning why he felt the police chief’s actions were reasonable Although preliminary findings are preliminary they do not sit well with the Schulze family.“I don’t want it happening to another person’s family another person’s dad,” said Skylar Stokes As far as what the Mantua Mayor thinks of all this he said it’s an awful thing that happened “I can’t fire someone without due process.” the plan is to have a second investigation from either the Weber County or Davis County Sheriff’s Office look into the chief’s arrest That’s expected to start in the next few weeks figuring out what kind of business she would start in her hometown was a combination of what she knew and identifying a need "I've been shopping bulk food stores pretty much my whole life since I lived in Mantua (Village)," she said "The closest I've been able to get to Mantua is Middlefield I used to have to drive all the way to Mesopotamia I thought it'd be a great idea to open a store like this in the village because there's no bulk food store in Portage County." Vechery opened Next Door General Store at 4637 W but its grand opening was held in mid-August with help from Mantua-Shalersville Chamber of Commerce Vechery started the groundwork in 2016 when she bought the old building where the store is located and began putting money into fixing it up It was a process that took years and lots of approvals all to bring in the kind of business she enjoys "It was really because I enjoy shopping bulk food," said Vechery The store's sales floor is only about 640 square feet so she had to carefully consider the products she planned to sell She spoke to wholesale suppliers about their recommendations but then decided to only partially stock the shelves and let her customers tell her what they want and I put a suggestion sheet up at the counter for people to give me ideas what they would like to have me carry," said Vechery adding that she ended up with about 10 pages of suggestions She says she now has "a variety of flours you will never see in a grocery store" in packages ranging from one to 50 pounds There also are many different spices in 4-ounce containers "because that's what my customers requested," she said "I have everything you need to bake or cook She said the store also carries canning items canning salt and pectin for thickening jams and jellies but that is not as big a seller as Vechery originally thought it would be She said she still has a suggestion sheet out but it has not been written on for a while "So I guess I've done a pretty good job," said Vechery working as an airline reservationist in New York City and Cleveland But she returned home some years ago and now lives in Mantua Township "I grew up with a very vibrant village," she said "It was a thriving community when I was growing up Vechery has volunteered with the non-profit Downtown Mantua Revitalization Corp The DMRC works to improve the village by raising money providing matches for grants and promoting businesses "I grew up in a village that I wanted to see come back again a friend has helped her from the beginning including teaching her how to price and package merchandise it's kind of a family business," said Vechery MANTUA — The address says it all for a new attraction here: 66 Million Mosasaur Way That's the home of the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum, where a deep quarry offers access to the sea floor — and dinosaur remnants — from 66 million ago The museum's eye-catching displays include the 30-foot-long skeleton of a mosasaur is primed to allow a largely youthful audience to gawk at prehistoric beasts in the museum and Not a bare-bones approach: Fossil park and museum open in South Jersey “What we’ve accomplished here will have impact well beyond Gloucester County,” Rowan President Ali Houshmand said at a ribbon-cutting March 20. "Soon enough, school buses full of children will experience this amazing facility.” New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, who also attended the ribbon-cutting, called this a day for the history books. "It will attract people from all across the country," Murphy said. The museum's own history dates to 2003, when paleontologist Ken Lacovara, then at Drexel University in Philadelphia, learned of the Mantua quarry and its rare window into the past. The quarry, with a depth of about 60 feet, was owned by Inversand Co., a Clayton firm that mined clay. Over the next few years, Lacovara worked with Michelle Bruner, Mantua's director of economic development, to build grassroots support for the fossil site. That included "community dig days" at the still-privately owned quarry off an access road near the intersection of southbound Route 55 and Woodbury-Glassboro Road. "I was hoping that maybe 75 people would show up on a Saturday morning to dig fossils with us," Lacovara said of the first community event. "(Approximately) 1,600 people showed up." He also reached out to Rowan administrators to promote the quarry's educational value and to save the site from commercial development. Rowan bought the 123-acre property for approximately $2 million, and Lacovara became the first dean of its School of Earth and Environment in 2016. He's now the museum's executive director. "Currently, about 4 acres of the former marl quarry are dedicated to paleontological research and fewer than 300 square meters of it have been fully processed,"a Rowan representative said. Areas of active research by Rowan faculty and staff are separated from public dig areas. "This site is an unique and fantastic geological feature of Southern New Jersey," said Raymond R. Jones, an Inversand spokesman. "The fact that the site is good for paleontology only scratches the surface of what that facility has under its control, considering its potential educational value." The quarry already has yielded more than 100,000 fossils from more than 100 extinct species. It was under the ocean when an asteroid strike wiped out most dinosaurs back in the late Cretaceous period, so most fossils have come from marine life including turtles, crocodiles and a mosasaur. But Rowan researchers have also found fossils from land-dwelling dinosaurs that drifted away from a coastline that was then near modern-day Philadelphia. The museum is expected to attract families and school groups with dinosaur sculptures, live animal exhibits and interactive displays. It also has a dinosaur-themed playground. Ric and Jean Edelman, Rowan alumni graduates and philanthropists, donated $25 million to the project. "There’s nothing better for children to get excited about science than the stars and the dinosaurs,” said Ric Edelman, who with his wife has also funded a planetarium on Rowan’s Glassboro campus. General admission ticket prices for the museum are $24 for children ages 3 to 12, and $29 for older visitors. The 75-minute Quarry Dig Experience is $25 with museum admission, or $40 on its own. “For all the memories we’re going to create, it just fills our hearts,” Jean Edelman said. start at $29.00 for adults and $24 for children 3 to 12 Due to the cold winters in New Jersey the fossil quarry site aspect will be open seasonally from May 1st through October The Edelman Team provided the following summary of the features: Both the Quarry Fossil Dig and the Virtual Reality Pass are listed as premium extra cost experiences I was actually lucky enough to get a tour through the museum last year when it was still under construction (before the exhibits were in place) It’s a substantial museum and I can’t wait to see the final museum Our goal with the museum is to bring back that childlike sense of wonder and help people feel a deeper connection to the incredible history of our planet we’ve preserved millions of years of history in stunning detail with each fossil telling its own unique story We want visitors to feel like they’re stepping into the world of dinosaurs and walk away feeling inspired and ready to make a difference for the future Well of course Mantua is a wonderful community and fully deserving of a “many 10s of millions of dollars” investment in a museum But as I’ve covered previously the real reason for this location is that the dinosaurs themselves chose it Located behind the Loews on Woodbury-Glassboro Road a marl clay mine operated on the property and for likely more than 100 years workers at the mine (as well as locals and students) would regularly find dinosaur bones and fossils amidst the marl clay Scattered throughout the decades of newspaper archives i have access to are stories of different significant fossil finds such as a large crocodile in 1934 a huge thigh bone from a duck-billed dinosaur in 1957… or a 50-foot long Mosasaurus Maximus Ancient Marine Lizard” found in 1961 Despite all of that activity the mining business continued to operate there behind Lowes until 2012 With the mining company looking to move out of the property it was actually considered for a housing development With the risk of a housing development taking over the property and also the mining company in 2015 no longer positioned to keep the pumps running (which kept the pit dry)…  Doctor Kenneth Lacovara and other volunteers
