(Sebastian Sprenger/staff photo)NETTUNO, Italy — Italy’s defense chief has challenged Leonardo and Rheinmetall to deliver a massive €23 billion ($24 billion) order of tanks and fighting vehicles as quickly as possible to get Italy ready for an increasingly dangerous world Luciano Portolano said time was of the essence in a speech to the heads of the Italian and German firms on Monday as they gathered to watch a Lynx fighting vehicle fire off rounds at Nettuno test range in Italy “We cannot protect you if you cannot support us,” said Portolano Leonardo and Rheinmetall announced a joint venture last October to build 1,050 variants of the German company’s Lynx vehicle as well as 272 variants of Rheinmetall’s Panther tanks to renew the Italian army’s near-obsolete tracked vehicle component officials from the firms said that once production was up and running there would be the capacity to build 700 vehicles for export but you have to help us get our national requirement.” named Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles gave the first breakdown of their souped-up schedule starting with the delivery this year of five Lynx’s which are already being assembled by Rheinmetall to supply the Italian program which has been variously dubbed AICS and A2CS The vehicles will match the variants now being built for Rheinmetall’s other Lynx customer, Hungary, which also lent Italy the model used in the live firing at Nettuno. Between 2026 and 2027, a further 11 to 16 Lynx’s will be delivered with the Leonardo Hitfist 30 turret that Italy wants on its vehicles, complete with Leonardo’s new 30mm X-Gun, representing the template for the Italianized version of the vehicle. A slide shown at the briefing showed the first Panther tanks would start arriving in 2027, with the total order including 132 main battle tanks and 140 variants split between a bridge building, armored recovery and armored engineering versions. As the joint venture awaits anti-trust approval, Leonardo and Rheinmetall will set up a temporary company in the next few days to accept a Request for Proposal from Italy which is the next step to formal contracts, the development of the variants and a ramp up in production using an assembly line in La Spezia, Italy. The peak year for production, according to a slide, will be 2031 with 171 vehicles and tanks produced. The Lynx will be produced in five variants which will in turn carry out 16 roles between them. The variants are: 120mm, 30mm, Mortar, Air Defense and Non-Turreted. David Hoeder, Rheinmetall’s designated executive chairman for the joint venture, said he believed the 120mm “light tank” version would become a successful export. Speaking to Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger and Leonardo CEO Roberto Cingolani, Gen. Portolano said of the Lynx, “I fell in love with this vehicle,” adding that “it meets all the requirements of the modern battlefield.” He added he was particularly impressed at how the eight soldiers riding inside the vehicle would emerge “ready to fight” after hours of traveling. Apart from the turret and 30mm gun, Leonardo will also supply the Lynx’s C4I system and electro-optic sensor and radar as well as radio. On the 132 main battle tanks, Rheinmetall will produce 52 120mm guns while Leonardo will produce 80. Each firm will handle 50 percent of the work on the hulls, while Leonardo supplies the engine and a kit to adopt its Vulcano guided munition system. “Using a 130mm cannon has not been excluded,” said Leonardo co-director general, Lorenzo Mariani. Laurent Sissmann, the Leonardo official designed as CEO of the joint venture, said meeting the deadlines would be “hard work” but possible. He told Defense News, “The prerequisites to achieve it are a clear requirement, good industry teaming and stable funding.” Tom Kington is the Italy correspondent for Defense News. named after a trident-wielding statue of Roman god Neptune in Bologna which originally inspired Maserati’s logo The new unit is a 3.0-litre 90-degree twin-turbo V6 is assembled around a Chrysler-derived block by Ferrari It’s significantly more potent than the company’s existing six-banger It develops 613bhp at 7500rpm and will keep spinning until 8000rpm Peak torque of 538lb ft is available from 3000rpm What Maserati is most keen on shouting about is the F1-derived “is set between the central electrode and the traditional combustion chamber and connected by a series of specially-designed holes” Nettuno also gets a 350bar twin injection system and a dry-sump lubrication system to keep the oil supply nice and constant even when the unit is subjected to punishing lateral G-forces It’s that last element which is key to the engine’s intended use Nettuno is destined for the almost certainly mid-engined MC20 which Maserati describes as a “super sportscar” we think simply “supercar” will be appropriate enough Beyond the new engine stats and that there may also be an electric powertrain available before Coronavirus forced Maserati to postpone the grand unveiling to 9 September reviews and unmissable promotions from the team direct to your inbox For more information see our Privacy Policy Next Genesis G70 Sprouts Huge Wing For Track Day Concept Matt Robinson Growing up on a diet of World Rally Championship highlights and lengthy Gran Turismo 2 sessions a life in cars was as good as inevitable for Matt.  It’ll be interesting to see what it can do but I’m always excited to see a brand new engine made from the ground up from a brand like Maserati we this tech trickle down to non ultra-rare hypercar levels Is this the first time that a production car will use turbulent jet ignition instead of the standard spark plug in certain scenarios It even comes with a alloy wheel as a flywheel :P Myrmeko (#CTSquad) This shows that you can still make a good looking engine that doesn’t need to be covered with a huge plastic sheet © Crash Media Group Ltd 2025.The total or partial reproduction of text photographs or illustrations is not permitted in any form Italian coffee equipment manufacturer Cimbali Group has officially unveiled the LaCimbali M40 and Casadio Nettuno in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as part of GulfHost 2024 in Dubai from 5-7 November “We are thrilled to participate in this key industry event, a prime opportunity to showcase our new products, LaCimbali M40 and Casadio Nettuno for the first time in the region,” says Boris Nava “This launch underscores Cimbali MEIA’s commitment to supporting our partners Our fully equipped Experience Center provides training and customer care giving our partners the resources needed to maximise product potential and deliver our exceptional total coffee solution.” improved energy efficiency compared to previous models and flexible connectivity options for both the machine and the grinders “This machine is ideal for establishments aiming to prioritise innovation and sustainability without compromising on quality or flavour,” Cimbali Group said in a statement “With its precision extraction and commercial durability the M40 is perfect for specialty coffee shops and businesses focused on delivering a premium coffee experience.” The M40 was presented to the UAE market at GulfHost alongside the G50 grinder intuitive controls and customisable preferences the Nettuno espresso machine is paired with the Enea grinder which is equipped with Keber-made burrs that are designed for precision and consistency “This integrated approach reflects our commitment to providing not just espresso machines but also added-value services and accessories that cater to both professionals and coffee enthusiasts,” Cimbali Group said “Our offerings are tailored to different business segments and include digital services and apps designed to enhance user experience and provide comprehensive solutions.” YouTube stars Will Lenney (WillNE) and James Marriott have turned their sights to food and drink retail through the launch.. If the Sooners can figure out any way to score This game means more to the Mids than it does the Sooners Navy won't have any opt-outs and I'm betting on Drew Cronic's offense to have the upper hand against this meh Oklahoma defense Oklahoma has mildly improved through the season but I'm not sure the Sooners' defense will know how to handle Blake Horvath and the Mids' offense we've seen what happens when the service academy teams run into a major talent deficiency That's what I expect will be the story against a Sooners defense that is the strength of the team They really gave Vandy points one last time this season but that won't stop him from playing like it is I know Georgia Tech took Georgia to eight overtimes in the regular-season finale but I've got more faith in this chaotic Vanderbilt team going out with a bang This is a tough pick in a game between two giant-killers, and while I like Georgia Tech's run game, I believe more in the Commodores offense with Diego Pavia Tahj Brooks and the Red Raiders have a tough offense The Red Raiders were quietly pretty good this year and I'm a bit surprised to see them listed as underdogs in this game quarterback and head coach within days of each other This could've been one of the best bowl games of the year but one team has Kyle McCord slinging it all over the field in one final attempt to impress NFL folks while the other team just lost its coach to Wake Forest Yeah I don't think Wazzu's players especially want to be there given everything that's happened the last month Michelle Martinelli: Washington State +16.5 Probably would have taken Syracuse at -2.5 even when the Orange are decidedly the better team but it's enough for me to roll with the Orange against a Washington State team that lost its head coach offensive coordinator and starting quarterback among others How am I supposed to fade Mike Elko after everything he's proven this year I probably wouldn't have said this three years ago but I trust Mike Elko more than Lincoln Riley I trust one of these teams to show up whole hog much more than the other An interesting one between two underachieving teams this season but as USC players keep hitting the transfer portal hard it feels like this one — ZERO PUN INTENDED — means a little more for the Aggies but I have more faith in them than I do a USC team that hasn't looked the part since its Week 1 win over LSU I don't see another SEC upset happening here Gotta root for the funniest possible outcome here who only understands football success by looking at it through a keyhole End-of-season chaos and incoming NFL-turned-NCAA coach aside the Tar Heels probably still come away with a win here UConn is a very competent team under Jim Mora but I'll roll with a UNC team that has some excitement surrounding it with the hiring of Bill Belichick Dylan Raiola gets a head start on his 2025 Heisman campaign The better quarterback plays for the Cornhuskers The Huskers haven't been to a bowl in an unfathomably (for them) long time The Cornhuskers started the season fairly strong before fizzling out and disappointing while Boston College has had some decent wins But Dylan Raiola has strong Bad Boy Mowers MVP vibes Both these teams had up-and-down campaigns and while I expect both will be motivated here the Cornhuskers should come out ready to win in their first bowl appearance since 2016 A pretty strange year for TCU ended with a three-game win streak but this spread is just way too big for two offenses that are nearly identical in total production I don't love taking the Horned Frogs with this many points but this seems like quite a mismatch after Louisiana's poor showing in the Sun Belt title game Both losers in their respective conferences in their own ways the Hurricanes had a lot more on the line this season and blew it will be looking to put on a show to make up for a 10-win season that ended with two losses in three games Both these teams enter with a lot of disappointment after missing out on the CFP, but Miami has the talent to jump out to a big lead against Iowa State, and if that happens, the Cyclones probably won't be able to respond I'll be the renegade here and pick the Rams who had one of the most quietly successful seasons in the FBS this fall I think this team will have t0o much pride to lose to East Carolina Banking on the Pirates to at least keep this one exciting NC State just has too many players in the transfer portal but after a strong close to the season under interim Blake Harrell I expect them to give NC State a good fight in the in-state battle It's nice to get this matchup after the Buffs and Cougars missed out on playing each other in the Big 12 this year I expect a very competitive game that Colorado is just able to finish off BYU has a lot to make up for following that late collapse. The Buffaloes are a blank canvas against which a masterpiece can be painted One last time for this wildly fun and talented Buffs team and if that talent is playing — as we expect will be the case — it should be enough to win and cover Thanks for showing up to take this whuppin We appreciate your sacrifice for the troops Tech thought it could be home for the holidays it's gonna get run the hell over for 60 minutes this would be too big a spread for me to take but Louisiana Tech is simply going to be outmatched by Bryson Daily and this crafty Army offense — even if the Bulldogs have one of the best defenses on paper A Louisiana Tech squad that finished 5-7 and is only playing in this game because Marshall opted out is not one of them Do not get tricked into watching this game because it features a Big Ten-SEC matchup Kirk Ferentz will find a way to muck this game up against a Missouri team that very much does not want to be playing in the TransPerfect Music Bowl While Iowa's defense remains strong and Missouri is disappointing it should have enough to eke out a win here More NCAAF!Duke's Mayo Bowl trolled Hellmann's Super Bowl ad with 1 perfect tweet 5 things to know about Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes when he played for Texas Tech Which college has the most players in the 2025 Super Bowl? Neptune what does your name tell about you? I think that especially when it comes to chosen names, sometimes they contain an inherent truth that kind of sticks with us. I wanted a name that was masculine but didn't sound like it at all. What is the form of expression that represents you most? The performing arts and body art in general are a pool into which I can fit-and at the same time draw from-more disciplines that I like. In terms of representation I don't know, since I've been working as a performer at Plastic I get to experiment with different things every Saturday. Definitely using my body as a medium is what fascinates me the most. Is there anything that others don't see of you? Almost everything I think. We all construct images of ourselves that people then read a little bit how they want. Do you feel that you are part of something? Fortunately, yes. I think there's a great urgency to create a solid transnational queer collective consciousness, and I'm definitely not alone in that view. Is there a conversation you'd like to start? With whom? Those who know me in person know that I'm not famous for my small talk.... The characters I most admire are probably not guys who are ready to reveal their secrets. General Motors split the Buick V-6's crankpins so that it would fire evenly (once every 60 degrees of crank rotation) in 1977 but Maserati owns the snarl its engine makes and perceives no need for any such gentrification efforts designing the crank to incorporate extra throws would either compromise its stiffness and strength or force it to grow in length adding a balance shaft would certainly rob power and add weight engine mount technology has come a long way since the '60s When asked what contribution the Maserati Twin Combustion (pre-combustion chamber) technology contributed Valentini noted that this engine without it would make just over 500 hp and that engaging the prechamber ignition is necessary to take output to the full 621 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque that when driving the MC20 you'll never notice a transition from "conventional" direct injection and in-cylinder spark-plug ignition to prechamber ignition; no VTEC-cam switch-over point Sophisticated engine maps determine when to phase the port and direct injection in and out and when to fire the main cylinder plug or the prechamber plug At low-to-moderate loads and engine speeds combustion is initiated by the main plug in the cylinder When the hammer's down and the revs are rising the maps begin to phase in the centrally located prechamber combustion starts in the prechamber and then shoots out of the tiny jets in the bottom of the chamber to help propagate the flame front more quickly throughout the cylinder etc.) are snuggling their twin-turbochargers down in the valley of their 90-degree vees So why does Maserati stick with inboard intake Valentini's official answer: They couldn't find a way to achieve 210 hp/liter in a hot-vee configuration that was both reliable and sufficiently clean He also noted that this arrangement typically raises the center of gravity Another potential contributing factor this fashion-forward Italian brand might have been hesitant to say in so many words: hot vees are ugly; carbon-fiber intake covers are much prettier Each engine will move through six stations inside the historic Maserati Engine Lab with different technicians spending three-to-four hours in each station the engine gets hooked up and run for 40 minutes on a test dynamometer to ensure everything works but six signatures would take up a lot of space READ MORETotal Rekall: Maserati's Latest https://www.dvidshub.net/about/copyright Following the launch of the Maserati MC20 last week which sports the company’s pre-chamber ignition-equipped Nettuno V6 engine the company’s head of powertrain innovation explains some the key development challenges This project was born early in 2015 in a very specific context because we were just starting the Giorgio project intended to relaunch Alfa Romeo and Maserati the team delivered a motivation and passion that spread to everyone working on the project thanks to the enthusiasm and passion of the people involved the idea arose of not just settling for something that equaled others The inspiration came from the racing world was placed between the spark plug and the combustion chamber We wondered whether we could also use this item in a standard production engine Initially it was a secret project within the Giorgio project I remember that at the beginning there were two or three of us working on it – one person doing the calculations one designing and me trying to coordinate things a little to design some objects and to start testing them around September/October 2015 The benefit of this technology was clear at once We immediately noted that it brought benefits especially when the engine was at very high power outputs we realized the system had drawbacks: the engine was very unstable in the phases generally considered normal operation on a road car meaning when traveling at low speeds with the engine delivering only low power levels There were great benefits at high power outputs So we had to study how to use this concept to make it feasible for application on a road car The benefit is more efficient use of the energy contained in the fuel the engine’s efficiency is increased and higher power outputs are achieved not because more petrol and more air are taken in but because the air and petrol we already have available are used better The next step is to add a second spark plug in the main combustion chamber but we had to understand how these two objects work together and decide the control strategies to enable them to operate so that the two combustion systems could function in tandem the engine has two combustion systems: a conventional combustion system and an innovative combustion system They have to be controlled and operated together so that the transition between the two operating modes is imperceptible issued to protect these strategies and enable a pre-chamber to operate on a standard production engine There are patents covering a concept of this kind dating from the early twentieth century I’ve also seen a considerable number of patents from the past but it seems people never managed to overcome all the problems posed by this object but we were also faced with a mass of problems to be overcome We worked on this concept for four years before obtaining approval of the program to enable it to be used in production; we had to resolve every anomaly and problem that emerged from the introduction of this design because an increase in performances means increasing pressures and increasing thermal stresses so we had to completely redesign an engine to enable it to withstand a performance level that was unknown even to us even we didn’t think it would be possible to achieve such a high performance level One important step in the project’s development was the idea of the Twin Spark combustion system and then the construction of the demo car In mid-2017 we started to transfer this engine to a car and we realized we’d have to bear in mind other issues during the development: emissions most of the team was working on resolving all the engine’s anomalies in these areas It was very difficult to define the design of the piston and all the engine’s structural parts to enable them to withstand a level of performances far above anything we’d known before A couple of factors were crucial in changing the results: the first of these was the choice of material a material that tends to disperse heat rapidly This was one of the first things that gave us decent results from the outset and I must say that we’d come up with this choice of material more or less right from the start because we’d realized that the thermal stress being generated on this object would be very high and even the initial calculations and simulations told us that we had to get rid of a lot of heat from this object which is also immersed in the engine’s cooling water meaning that the water flowing between the head and the top of the head because it enabled us to cool this object correctly; otherwise we’d never have achieved the results we have achieved because of the temperatures generated in an object which basically only does combustion It’s not like a conventional combustion chamber that also receives cool air; the intake valves open and feed a lower temperature into the charge This was the first insight that helped to change the overall outcome Next came another important point concerning the choice of spark plug: initially performances were limited because the spark plug was unable to offer anything more we managed to invent or test a spark plug compatible with combustion inside this object: a spark plug which was also able to disperse a large amount of heat The final fundamental idea was to use the Twin Spark system because with the second spark plug we can make the engine function conventionally in operating modes with low power outputs We have a pre-chamber for each cylinder and then a second spark plug for each cylinder we have one spark plug in the pre-chamber and one serving the main combustion chamber giving us a total of 12 plugs and six pre-chambers The great thing about this combustion concept is that it enables us to increase performances while simultaneously improving the engine’s fuel efficiency This is one of the system’s strong points because we need six extra spark plugs on six cylinders and component numbers that increase in one way or another Then this object is in a fairly expensive material: €8 is quite a lot for a piece of metal and overall this means an additional cost of about €150 for a six-cylinder engine The substantial benefit of this object is that it delivers both a significant improvement in performance and a reduction in fuel use In terms of the performances of a V6 engine power output is increased by about 120/130bhp and torque by about 130Nm with an internal combustion engine there’s always a trade-off meaning that engines required to deliver higher performances inevitably also consume more fuel so it’s possible to achieve higher performances and also reduce fuel use we’ve found that this technology provides a potential reduction in fuel use of about 3% which we’ll be introducing on our Maserati cars The really exciting thing is that everyone who has tested this technology has been really impressed by it The most striking things are above all the performances and the car’s sound which is different from a conventional engine Lots of executives fell in love with it at first sight and immediately decided to sponsor the continuation of all the pre-development activities including the finalization of the technology for real production It’s difficult to assess feeling or emotional benefits just from a power curve If I show you a power curve and you see 130hp more it’s difficult to translate that into the emotion or sensation actually experienced Those who’ve had the chance to test drive the demo car have been able to appreciate how this additional performance raises emotions sensations and experience to a higher plane And this was a very important step in the timeline of this technology’s development We know we’ve done something extraordinary I believe that in the future this technology will be widely adopted in a sector as competitive as the automotive world is definitely a source of great satisfaction What makes us all proud is having worked on the design of such a revolutionary engine at the time when we’ve turned our back on Ferrari engines to construct our own engines we’re confident that what we can come up with in-house can be superior to what other people were able to offer us Maserati’s return to the super-sportscar segment will be a showcase of what its newly expanded facilities in Modena can deliver the MC20 is a scratch-built modern halo car built for an electric powertrain and is the first application of the company’s new V6 gasoline engine – every element of which was developed in-house Requirements for the Nettuno engine were laid out in 2018 according to the project’s chief engineer Matteo Valentini It’s the car maker’s first in-house engine program in 20 years delivered through close collaboration between its Innovation Lab in Modena and newly established Engine Hub nearby virtual analysis and prototyping to be carried out under one roof The MC20 presented a challenging first application: a mid-mounted layout in a monocoque also designed for electric drive aerodynamic roofline further constraining the available space Valentini says this focused development on a compact six-cylinder architecture also required a dry sump system which reduces the height of the engine by 100-150mm and enables it to be mounted lower in the chassis without compromising ground clearance “We had to do a lot of work in terms of the architecture of the engine because we have to fit a very compact package,” he says “We analyzed a lot of different solutions but the V6 90° architecture is the best solution to achieve the lowest center of gravity and it met all the packaging constraints and the [targeted] power to weight ratio.” Maserati had already begun development of a pre-chamber combustion system in 2015 and the Nettuno is claimed to be the first to bring this F1-derived technology to market Fuel is injected directly into the cylinder at 350 bar and the air/fuel mixture is pushed into a central pre-combustion chamber during the compression stroke the mixture is ignited by a spark plug in the pre-chamber then channeled back into the cylinder via a series of holes triggering multiple further ignition areas resulting in improved fuel economy and performance Although the pre-chamber system was an important component for delivering the >200ps/liter target performance Valentini says it presented some challenges for road use the pre-chamber had some drawbacks in terms of combustion stability and noise We solved this issue by adding the second spark plug and the [6 bar port] injection This meant we were able to keep the advantages of the pre-chamber and meet the stability and the NVH requirements for a road vehicle.” the new engine is equipped with twin side-mounted fixed-geometry turbochargers with electronically actuated wastegates A bespoke design that’s focused on space efficiency they feature a newly designed steel alloy capable of withstanding exhaust temperatures of more than 1,000°C this will enable future applications to meet forthcoming emissions targets where over-richening of the mixture for cooling will not be possible With short turnaround times and new technology on board simulation played an important role during development Engineers combined tools available at the Engine Hub (right) to analyze the behavior of the pre-chamber system but also to streamline the complicated process of packaging its components within the cylinder head Detailed thermal and mechanical analysis early on was also vital for time-efficient design of under-load components These were correlated with the first dyno tests once prototypes became available in early 2019 “The power cell and the core components are modular,” Valentini explains “If we want to adapt the combustion technology to other architectures The core of the engine is adaptable to other V6 configurations in the future If the market or the company asks for hybridization we will adapt the solution to the request.” Concurrent development of an all-new chassis and powertrain meant the earliest on-road tests had to be carried out in custom-built mules – Maserati has no mid-engined products to use as a base before switching to the first camouflaged MC20 prototypes four months later Despite travel restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic hardware-in-the-loop testing has continued at the Innovation Lab correlated with real-world testing as series production draws closer “We have increased the efficiency of the design team a lot using all these tools,” says Valentini “We were able to achieve the target of performance without any critical failure or issue and we have a strong bond to the legacy of Maserati when it was producing its own engines in the past and we achieved the best performance we could have imagined with the new technology we implemented.” Ram Reveals Revamped, Stylish Sub-$50K 1500 Express Rivian Bet Big on Batteries Before Trump’s Tariffs - And It’s Paying Off It's been more than two decades since Maserati was in the business of developing an in-house 90-degree V6 engine and the last one it had traced its genealogy back 30 years when Citroën took a controlling stake in Maserati and the French requested that the Italians create an engine for the 1970 Citroën SM Famed Maserati engineer Giulio Alfieri designed a 2.7-liter V6 producing 170 horsepower that could be built using Maserati's existing V8 tooling Alfieri then revised that V6 and bored it out to three liters Maserati – now owned by Alejandro de Tomaso who had fired Alfieri — started with Alfieri's V6 philosophy when developing a mill for a new sports car was the first twin-turbocharged motor put into a production car gorgeous mess known as the 1984 Maserati BiTurbo Almost 10 years on, the 1992 Maserati Ghibli II would get a 2.0-liter version of this 90-degree V6 making 306 horsepower. The 1995 Ghibli Cup turned that mill up to 330 hp, crowning the 2.0-liter V6 as the most power-dense engine in a production car, surpassing 1990s icons like the Jaguar XJ220 and original Bugatti EB110 (both 155 horsepower per liter) When the Ghibli exited production in 1998, Maserati ceded engine development duties to Ferrari by order of Fiat The word we're looking for in Italian is bentornato scanning everything from part numbers to cooling jackets to determine that while the Nettuno's heads are unique fundamental elements of the block's design and many ancillaries appear cribbed from the Ferrari and Alfa Romeo antecedents the Nettuno is designed as two three-cylinder motors working off a common crank containing four main journals and three rod journals that each hold two pistons the crank experiences a firing event every 120 degrees These principles could all have been lifted from the Alfa Romeo 690T We asked Maserati chief engineer Matteo Valentini about the F154 connection. He replied, “Of course it has solutions you can find on other engines, but please don't be fooled by the external shape of the engine.” He admitted Maserati engineers took advantage of knowledge throughout Fiat-Chrysler – the same resource sharing one finds at other OEM conglomerates like General Motors and the Volkswagen Group beginning-to-end development of the new V6 Valentini said the engine “is designed by us The Nettuno shares its architecture with Alfa Romeo’s 690T but is cast by a different supplier and the block “has different content inside [and] it has different oil ducts.” In his assessment the heart of Maserati going forward is “a brand-new project that makes use of all the experience we had in the past.” a pre-chamber atop the combustion chamber shoots directed jets of flame into the cylinder during ignition This induces more complete combustion and reduces emissions A cost-effective solution for modern car engines needed to address shortcomings including unwanted NVH substandard efficiency at low engine loads Maserati's passive method fills in the pre-chamber's weak spots by using two A second plug pokes its electrode into the side of each oversquare chamber This makes the Nettuno a twin-spark engine with dual injection; port-injection works on a 6-bar fuel rail Maserati's patent application for the tech says it enables a 15% increase in compression ratio and a fuel consumption reduction of up to 30% (Before anyone accuses Maserati of stealing Alfa Romeo's twin-spark cleverness Maserati was making twin-spark engines as far back as the 1950s for the inline-six in the 250 F race car and later for road cars like the Mistral that also featured dual overhead cams Maserati's press releases have explained the second plug “[ensures] constant combustion when the engine is operating at a level that doesn’t need the pre-chamber to kick in.” We asked Valentini about the performance parameters that activate the pre-chamber ignition he told us the system isn't binary; rather the pre-chamber ignition always contributes and we … play with the spark advance in order to give the right priority to one of them.” We asked how much power the pre-chamber ignition adds The Nettuno goes from roughly 510 horsepower on standard injection to 620 or 630 with pre-chamber assistance the Nettuno's turbos have been programmed to wind up to 3 bar (43.5 psi) so far and have electronically controlled wastegates As for why the turbos hang off the side instead of being nestled between the cylinders Valentini said the team looked into a hot-vee setup reliable solution able to hit the targeted 210 horsepower/liter The traditional arrangement is cleaner and creates a lower center of gravity Maserati has not only given the Nettuno a supercar home the engine gets supercar production techniques divided into roughly 100 sub-assemblies and pieces Inside a clean room at the Engine Lab at the automaker's historic Viale Ciro Menotti facility a tiny number of technicians – Maserati calls them dottori (“doctors”) – turn those 100 constituents into a Nettuno in six stages so one engine can take three full working days to complete Powertrain facility manager Jonata Azzali told us the length of time required is partly why Maserati felt it better to spread the process among technicians instead of having one person build one complete engine while Maserati has been lauded for hand-crafted luxury the brand hasn't always fared well with hand-built technology the automaker is far more focused on eliminating failure points than celebrating individual artisans Azzali's tour of the build room was really a tour of the numerous digital safeguards Maserati has implemented for quality control The HVAC system keeps the build room at positive pressure to expel errant particles Two screens at each build station illustrate what must be done and how it must be done and on tools monitor items such as proper seal placement on the cylinder liners and pistons Electronic wrenches and screwdrivers monitor and record the torque applied to screws and bolts on every Nettuno the screwdriver's digital sensors are backed up by a camera that ensures the screws are inserted in the proper order When assembling main and rod bearings on the crank bar-code sensors control a set of drawers that only allow the technician to access the proper bearing for the next step in the procedure a 21-point helium test checks for leaks in the injection and fuel systems This follows leak checks performed during the assembly like that done just after the valves are installed every Nettuno is sent to a test bench for 40 minutes to verify its horsepower and torque figures Maserati selects a random engine for a four-hour bench test The current setup produces four to six engines per day with the Nettuno being prepped to earn its keep on racing circuits around the world – and designed without a balance shaft – Maserati engineers tuned its personality “to underline the race soul of the engine.” NVH calibration was set at idle whereas stints at full power impart a “race feeling.” And despite the voluminous technical considerations A brand preaching Italian character and passion for nearly 90 years won't be served by mechanical excellence bereft of a soul The answer to whether the Nettuno possesses such anima awaits in our first all-new powertrain developed entirely in-house Dubbed “Nettuno,” the engine takes the shape of a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 that weighs less than 220 kilograms (485 pounds) It uses a dry sump and an F1-derived pre-chamber combustion system featuring twin-spark plugs And now for the juicy output numbers – 630 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 730 Newton-meters (538 pound-feet) of torque between 3,000 and 5,500 rpm It revs up to 8,000 rpm and has a firing order of 1-6-3-4-2-5 It boasts a specific power output of 210 hp / liter and represents the first new engine developed by Maserati in 20 years Maserati aims to introduce the GranCabrio and Quattroporte replacements These timelines were revealed in a product roadmap through 2023 Electrification will play an important role in the company’s future and we’re already anxious to see what a hybrid version of the twin-turbo V6 will bring to the supercar game Maserati presents Nettuno: the new 100% Maserati engine that adopts F1 technology for a road car 01 July 2020 – Maserati’s new era begins with a new engine The new engine is the beating heart of the MC20 super sportscar that will make its world premiere in September The unit was designed at Maserati’s Modena facilities: the Maserati Innovation Lab on Via Emilia Ovest the workshops on Via Delle Nazioni (Maserati Corse’s historic base) and developed at the Engine Hub situated at the famous Viale Ciro Menotti address where it will be built Currently the new production line and new paint shop are being modified to host the much-anticipated MC20 The new engine is the result of a technical revolution The project was born from the passion and commitment of a team of highly-qualified technicians and engineers Maserati has once again enthusiastically taken on the challenge of returning to its Modena HQ with the development and production of a new The operation is a strategic one for Maserati a project that is ‘100% Made in Modena’ starting right from it’s engine which represents a historic moment for the company a new era that will officially begin on September 9 and 10 in Modena during the event which will go into production in the coming years and innovative propulsion systems as well as ambitious programmes developed by the Casa del Tridente  will be announced and features a dry sump (a classic solution on super sportscars) It delivers 630CV at 7500rpm and 730 Nm of torque from 3000rpm with a specific power output of 210CV/litre The soul of the engine is the innovative pre-chamber combustion system featuring twin-spark plugs This technology is derived from Formula 1 and is now available The pre-chamber: a combustion chamber is set between the central electrode and the traditional combustion chamber and connected by a series of specially-designed holes Lateral sparkplug: a traditional sparkplug acts as a support to ensure constant combustion when the engine is operating at a level that doesn’t need the pre-chamber to kick in Twin injection system – direct and indirect: linked to the fuel supply pressure at 350bar the system reduces noise low down on the rev range lowering emissions and improving consumption It is strategically important and supported by the Innovation Lab has allowed development and planning times to be notably reduced has been taken to unheard of power and torque levels and will be used for Space Telescope is showing off its capabilities closer to home with its first image of Neptune Not only has Webb captured the clearest view of this peculiar planet’s rings in more than 30 years but its cameras are also revealing the ice giant in a whole new light Most striking about Webb’s new image is the crisp view of the planet’s dynamic rings — some of which haven’t been seen at all, let alone with this clarity, since the Voyager 2 flyby in 1989 In addition to several bright narrow rings the Webb images clearly show Neptune’s fainter dust bands Webb’s extremely stable and precise image quality also permits these very faint rings to be detected so close to Neptune Neptune has fascinated and perplexed researchers since its discovery in 1846 Located 30 times farther from the Sun than Earth Neptune orbits in one of the dimmest areas of our Solar System the Sun is so small and faint that high noon on Neptune is similar to a dim twilight on Earth This planet is characterised as an ice giant due to the chemical make-up of its interior. Compared to the gas giants, Jupiter and Saturn, Neptune is much richer in elements heavier than hydrogen and helium. This is readily apparent in Neptune’s signature blue appearance in NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope images at visible wavelengths caused by small amounts of gaseous methane Webb’s Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) captures objects in the near-infrared range from 0.6 to 5 microns the methane gas is so strongly absorbing that the planet is quite dark at Webb wavelengths except where high-altitude clouds are present Such methane-ice clouds are prominent as bright streaks and spots which reflect sunlight before it is absorbed by methane gas Images from other observatories have recorded these rapidly-evolving cloud features over the years a thin line of brightness circling the planet’s equator could be a visual signature of global atmospheric circulation that powers Neptune’s winds and storms The atmosphere descends and warms at the equator and thus glows at infrared wavelengths more than the surrounding Neptune’s 164-year orbit means its northern pole but the Webb images hint at an intriguing brightness in that area A previously-known vortex at the southern pole is evident in Webb’s view but for the first time Webb has revealed a continuous band of clouds surrounding it Webb also captured seven of Neptune’s 14 known moons Dominating this Webb portrait of Neptune is a very bright point of light sporting the signature diffraction spikes seen in many of Webb’s images; The mid-engined MC20 supercar is powered by a 3000cc V6 twin-turbo engine The Ferrari 296 GTB is fitted with a 2992cc V6 twin-turbo mill and both have an identical 88-mm bore and 82-mm stroke Surely these engines are related in one way or another the two powertrains have nothing in common the company's Chief Technical Officer Michael Leiters emphasized the two V6s are totally unrelated: "Ferrari doesn't copy anybody or take over anything from others This stroke has been typical for Ferrari for years and we didn't have the necessity to collaborate on something like that." Some will remember the company with the trident logo did say its Nettuno powertrain is a "new 100% Maserati engine" in the build-up to the MC20's official reveal last year It's also worth mentioning the Ferrari engine has a 120-degree bank angle whereas the Maserati unit has a 90-degree layout Then there are the power differences as the 296 GTB's combustion engine (without the hybrid assist) puts out an extra 33 horsepower over the MC20's mill (663 hp vs 630 hp) We will be seeing more of both engines in future applications as Maserati will likely use it in the next-generation GranTurismo while Ferrari could install its very own V6 in the Purosangue It will be interesting to know whether the folks from Maranello will put their smallest engine in a new car without the PHEV setup Technically, Maserati and Ferrari are not part of the same automotive conglomerate as while the former sits under the Stellantis umbrella as one of the 14 brands The majority of Ferrari's shares are publicly owned (67.09 percent) holding company (22.91 percent) and Piero Ferrari (10 percent) – Enzo's second and only living son Ironically, the first SUV to carry the Prancing Horse badge has been spotted repeatedly using a modified Maserati body borrowed from the Levante Italy -- The American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) hosted a ceremony to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Allied Landings at Anzio and Nettuno Jan The ceremony kicks off a year of scheduled events to commemorate the 75th anniversary of WWII It honored the almost 11,000 Americans who died fighting to liberate Italy and included a wreath laying sharing of individual stories of people buried or memorialized at the cemetery performances by the Italian Military band and U.S The day concluded with a luminary where every headstone and name on the walls of the missing were illuminated with candles The allied amphibious landing at Anzio-Nettuno was a major joint operation with allied troops from the American 5th Army and the British 1st Infantry Division that marked the beginning of the offensive that led to the liberation of Rome in June 1944 remarked about the importance of the commemoration of the landings as well as the sacrifices of those who fought courageously the campaign to successfully liberate Italy from the grasp of Axis forces would very likely never have occurred,” said Zirkle The ceremony honored and paid tribute to those whose lives were lost “We remember their ultimate sacrifice,” said Zirkle “They are the reason we are gathered here together They paid the ultimate price so that we could enjoy the freedom that endures today.” Commemorations like this inspire people of all ages and walks of life to remember and connect with the legacy of the “Greatest Generation,” and commemorates how the dedicated resolve of allies with a common purpose and shared vision builds proven partnerships that endure Forces in Europe remain committed to ensuring a Europe that is whole Maserati spent a great deal of time and resources developing a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6 called Nettuno. It made its debut in 2020 in the MC20, and it will be available in the Grecale Trofeo in 2022 but Autoblog learned that the six won't travel outside of the trident family “We want to keep the Nettuno engine as a signature for the brand It was developed with the aim of being uniquely associated with the Maserati brand so it was designed and engineered specifically for Maserati It's technically feasible to apply it to other cars [in the Stellantis group] We have it in the MC20 and now in the Grecale; there will be other uses for it in the future but always in Maserati cars,” Federico De Medio Maserati's head of vehicle validation told Autoblog on the sidelines of the Grecale launch While he stopped short of providing details about the other uses De Medio hinted that Nettuno will gradually replace the Ferrari-derived V8 that Maserati has used for many years He explained that the project's goal was to design a six-cylinder engine with V8-like power Does that mean that a V8 with V10-like power is on its way it sounds like the eight-cylinder's days are numbered in the Maserati line-up but our crystal ball tells us it's more realistic to expect that the coupe will make its debut with a V6 than with a V8 It’s been almost two years since Maserati introduced the MC20 coupe the automaker said that there’d be a convertible version and it’s the next iteration of the company’s new supercar The MC20 Cielo uses the same Nettuno V6 that powers the MC20 coupe The 3.0-liter engine makes the same 621 horsepower (456 kilowatts) and 538 pound-feet (730 Newton-meters) of torque The engine pairs with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox and it has a top speed of over 198 miles per hour (320 kilometers per hour) The extra rigidity is necessary to compensate for the Cielo’s retractable roof which can open and close in just 12 seconds The retractable roof also features a large chromatic glass panel that can instantly turn from transparent to opaque thanks to its polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) technology Maserati claims that this is the largest glass panel in the segment Maserati will offer a limited-run PrimaSerie Launch Edition The automaker will limit production to just 60 units like the new Acquamarina exterior paint color part of the Maserati Fuoriserie customization program combines pastel gray with iridescent aquamarine mica the PrimaSerie Launch Edition receives ice-colored Alcantara and leather with aquamarine contrast stitching on the dash Maserati also uses the color for the “PrimaSerie” wording on the headrests That “PrimaSerie” wording extends to the matte-black 20-inch wheels Maserati also gives the badges a specific finish the MC20 Cielo doesn’t look all too different from the coupe but Maserati had to make several changes to accommodate the retractable roof The stylized Trident vents on the back of the MC20 coupe are gone replaced by a matte titanium Trident decal Maserati also had to relocate the engine air intakes although the company kept the coupe’s butterfly doors The automaker is also introducing new double-X-styled wheels made from diamond-cut alloy Maserati will also offer carbon-fiber rims that shave an extra 66 lbs (30 kg) The MC20 Cielo receives many of the same upgrades Maserati made to the 2023-model-year MC20 coupe That includes new control levers behind the steering wheel The MC20 Cielo also offers automatic emergency braking Maserati hasn’t announced when it will go on sale or its price Motor1.com Test Car Happy Hour #29: Maserati MC20 Cielo Maserati MC20 Cielo Spyder Science Institute in Baltimore A great quest is underway to discover Earth-size worlds in their stars’ habitable zones astronomers have been surprised to learn that the most typical size of planet in our galaxy is one with no counterpart in our own solar system These planets are called super-Earths or mini-Neptunes They populate an unfamiliar regime of worlds an exoplanet detected as it transits across the disk of its host star is 4 times more likely to have a size in the super-Earth/mini-Neptune regime than to be bigger than Neptune These discovery statistics are telling us something—but what At what point does a planet stop being mostly rock and transition to one that’s mostly hydrogen and helium whose impressive 9-year mission ended in November 2018 was launched to observe 150,000 Sun-like stars continuously in order to discover Earthsized planets on year-long orbits It used a detection method called the transit technique which looks for the dimming of a star’s light caused by a planet passing in front of the star from our point of view The use of this method to search for extrasolar worlds was suggested in the 1600s by Dutch astronomer Christiaan Huygens He reasoned that just as we can see the Galilean moons pass in front of Jupiter we should be able to see planets do the same thing by looking toward the stars Kepler collected data on more than 500,000 stars and revealed that there must be more planets in our galaxy than stars Kepler found a hugely diverse population of planets—more than 2,500 in all—orbiting any and all types of stars cool stars (known as M dwarfs) and everything in between Of the roughly 4,000 exoplanets known at the end of 2018 more than half of the ones with a measured diameter fall in the super-Earth/mini-Neptune regime These objects have diameters 1.6 times to 4 times that of Earth To characterize the atmospheres of one of these strange new worlds and find out of what it is made we primarily measure the absorption spectrum of its atmosphere some of the starlight we record filters through the planet’s atmosphere before it reaches us Imprinted on the starlight are the spectral fingerprints of the molecules that make up the planet’s atmosphere Each molecule absorbs specific wavelengths of light changing the amount of light we measure from the star the molecules can be identified using databases of molecular absorption signatures and models water vapor has distinct absorption signatures in the near-infrared which can also be measured in Earth’s atmosphere the star needs to be bright enough to emit many photons toward the planet and the planetary atmosphere has to be extended enough for as many of those photons as possible to pass through the planet’s atmosphere—where some of those photons are absorbed or reradiated by different molecules—before they complete their journey to our telescopes One of the most famous super-Earths/mini-Neptunes was discovered by the ground-based MEarth project (pronounced “mirth”) in 2009 even before Kepler entered the science phase of its mission gassy world 2.6 times the size of Earth but just a third of its density and at the time it was thought to be a rarity in exoplanets this planet could potentially consist of a rocky core with a hydrogen-helium atmosphere hundreds of kilometers deep or it could be a world covered in a deep ocean and atmosphere of steam To find out what this puffy little planet is made of astronomers have scrutinized it with numerous ground- and space-based telescopes These measurements show that the planet’s atmosphere is very effective at blocking its star’s light Observers expected to find strong spectral fingerprints from water vapor in the atmosphere but instead they saw a complete absence of any such features The absence of such features doesn’t necessarily mean water is absent but the question is: what could be blocking starlight so uniformly across all wavelengths Clouds are prevalent around all bodies in our solar system that have an atmosphere They probably are just as prevalent on exoplanets and challenge our ability to characterize them clouds can help us study the dynamics and temperature of an atmosphere but their opacity makes it difficult to accurately determine the abundances of other compounds in a planet’s air To really understand a planet’s composition—and thus to determine if it belongs in the “rocky” or “gassy” category—we need to measure the amounts of different materials in its atmosphere Our best approach is to look for gaseous materials in a planet’s atmosphere—since diffusion would distribute these materials equally everywhere By identifying a molecule and—where possible—its abundance we can understand more: the planet’s energy budget (how it deals with incoming and outgoing radiation) its chemistry (what reactions are occurring and whether there’s more or less of something than we’d expect) and its dynamics (how all of these interact with one another) Each of these supplies clues to the formation and evolution of the planet Water is the most useful of these molecules Water is the third-most abundant molecule in the universe trailing only molecular hydrogen (H2) and carbon monoxide (CO) It is very stable and exists in all phases in a vast array of astrophysical contexts Water’s abundance remains relatively constant under equilibrium conditions at all temperatures (as long as more oxygen than carbon is present) so it’s likely to be well mixed throughout hot The Hubble Space Telescope makes it relatively easy to detect water vapor in the atmospheres of giant exoplanets resulting in its identification in 80 percent of the planets that we’ve observed determining water’s abundance is still difficult: only 5 percent of Hubble’s measurements yield definitive constraints on how much water is present there’s an interesting trend among the outer planets: an atmosphere’s proportion of heavy elements increases as the planet’s mass decreases compared to their relative abundance in the Sun and Neptune and Uranus have about 100 times If we use water vapor in an exoplanet’s atmosphere to estimate the abundance of oxygen (and thus all heavy elements) then we can determine whether this trend applies in other planetary systems The first definitive measurement of this type was conducted on WASP-43b Its heavy elements have relative abundances matching the Sun’s Subsequent observations with Hubble revealed water vapor in the atmospheres of smaller exoplanets such as the Saturn-mass world WASP-39b and the Neptune-mass worlds HAT-P-11b and HAT-P-26b these planets didn’t fit the solar system pattern The “warm Saturn” WASP-39b has an atmosphere with 150 times more heavy elements than the Sun the atmosphere of Neptune-mass HAT-P-26b comes in at between 1 times and 30 times the Sun’s value but that of the somewhat smaller world HAT-P-11b has anywhere between 90 times and 700 times the solar abundance of heavy elements These results suggest that our solar system’s pattern isn’t necessarily relevant elsewhere—particularly in the lower-mass regime of the ice giants—and that exoplanet atmospheres are likely far more diverse than our backyard examples Using our planetary system to assess others is proving not to be the apples-to-apples comparison we hoped it would be Every measurement we make of exoplanet atmospheres just serves to expand the diversity of the population of worlds we’ve studied astronomers can only discuss which molecular species are present in exoplanet atmospheres we hope that our observations will establish definitive constraints on the abundances of those species Only then will astronomers be able to push further and further into the super-Earth/ mini-Neptune regime NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) could discover hundreds of new planets around bright stars—perfect candidates for follow-up observations on their atmospheres we await the 2021 launch of the James Webb Space Telescope which should be able to measure and constrain both water and carbon-bearing species in those planets Our study of exoplanet atmospheres will advance by leaps and bounds Super-Earths and mini-Neptunes occupy crucial positions in the continuum of planetary atmospheres As we look forward to detecting a plethora of smaller planets with the transit technique cooler stars whose attendant planets will also likely span a wider range of temperatures cooler planets allow us to explore the effects that a planet’s mass has on the chemical reactions in its atmosphere as well as the relative abundance of carbon-bearing molecules to hydrogen and helium definitive detections of carbon-based species remain elusive Photometric observations by the Spitzer Space Telescope aren’t good enough to identify their molecular absorptions with certainty Hubble has yet to find a planet with definitive evidence of methane in its atmosphere we are constantly learning new things with each observation and there are plenty of giant exoplanet atmospheres left to explore The big question we hope to answer is: what can we learn about our own solar system—its architecture and evolution—by looking out to these strange new worlds Give today to have your gift matched up to $75,000 you join our mission to increase discoveries in our Solar System and beyond elevate the search for life savory depth of flavor and they For much longer than us funky-flavor-shy Americans southern Italians have understood the power of the anchovy It takes two to three years for this process to complete. The product, Katie points out, is time-consuming and created with the utmost skill and experience. "What's amazing is you don't need a lot of it to go a long way. It's got lots of rich umami flavor." You may have already thought that was true of the generic anchovies you're buying—but wait until you get your hands on just a few drops of this anchovy liquid. As for how to deploy the power of this umami flavor, you can use it much like you'd use anchovies themselves: "It's typical to just toss it with spaghetti that has been cooked with garlic and olive oil, and even a little chili. You dribble a couple of drops of colatura per serving after the pasta has been cooked for that final savory kick." You can buy both the anchovies and colatura online. But, says Katie "if you can, go to Cetara and visit. Nettuno has a little workshop at the edge of the town, and they're the only family still making colatura in this artisanal way in the village. Food of the Italian South: Recipes for Classic, Disappearing, and Lost Dishes The Nettuno engine developed for the MC20 will only be used by the mid-engined supercar and will not be offered in other Maserati models moving forward Maserati’s chief engineer for high-performance petrol engines “The Nettuno is built only for the MC20 so you will see it only on that car,” he said “But the plan is that the technology from it will be used on many other engines in the future.” Watch Also: Maserati MC20 Heads To Ferrari’s Fiorano Racetrack For More Testing The twin-combustion system of the Nettuno engine means that each of the cylinders has an extra pre-chamber with a second spark plug and a dual-direct-injection system. This technology is derived from Formula 1 and means fuel can be fed into both chambers while the twin spark plugs allow each to be fired separately “When we set the performance parameters of the engine our first choice was to increase the size of the turbocharger and introduce some e-booster to get rid of the lag,” Valentini said of the system we could generate the performance and efficiency we wanted but keep the same size of conventional turbocharger.” Valentini did not state what other engines from its family will be updated with the twin-combustion system, but Autocar speculates it could be used by high-performance versions of the brand’s forthcoming Grecale small SUV as well the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio Maserati is in the process of renewing its lineup with new and updated cars and part of the renewal plans include the introduction of a new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 The engine, code-named the Nettuno, has been developed in-house at Maserati and will see first duty in the automaker's MC20 supercar The mid-engine model is due to be revealed on September 9 The new V-6 delivers 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque, making it substantially more powerful than the current 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 used by Maserati and the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 the automaker also uses. Both of these engines are sourced from Ferrari though the supply deal for these is ending shortly Teaser for Maserati MC20 debuting in September 2020 The new V-6 features cylinders banked at 90 degrees The engine also features a pre-chamber combustion system featuring twin-spark plugs—technology normally found in Formula One and now being introduced on a road car's engine for the first time the pre-chamber combustion chamber sits above the traditional combustion chamber and is connected by a series of specially designed holes A tiny amount of fuel and air is ignited in the pre-chamber which then helps to ignite the fuel and air in the main chamber Because of the way the holes connecting the chambers are designed turbulence is caused which allows the ignited mixture from the pre-chamber to penetrate deep into the main chamber and cause an evenly distributed ignition effect Production of the engine will be handled by Maserati at its Engine Hub facility in Modena
