Halfway between a festival dedicated to table grapes
a cornerstone of the region’s inland economy
and a business meeting attracting buyers from around the world
Regina di Puglia has garnered interest from municipalities where table grape production thrives
This has led to the creation of the Terre dell’Uva network
The initiative aims to enhance the value of table grapes and their territories
The third edition of Regina di Puglia will be the first to involve the municipalities of Terre dell’Uva
The organisers said the expansion is expected to further engage not only grape producers but also local communities
which will have the opportunity to promote themselves thanks to the presence of both Italian and international journalists and influencers attending the event
“Organisational efforts are already in full swing
aiming to make Regina di Puglia – following its success in 2023 and reaffirmation in 2024 – an even larger event where agriculture and tourism share a common language geared towards development,” the organiser said
The programme will once again include cultural events
and tastings of the region’s renowned food and wine specialities
and business meetings between Apulian companies and major national retailers as well as foreign importers
Table grapes are a true treasure of the Apulian region
second only to tourism in terms of economic impact
the leading producer of table grapes in both Italy and Europe
and one of the most significant production hubs worldwide
Traditional grape varieties are now complemented by the best selections demanded by the international market
mayor of Noicàttaro commented: “We hope that this third edition of Regina di Puglia
will mark a significant step in strengthening the synergy between the municipalities of the Terre dell’Uva network
“This initiative was created to systematise the various characteristics of these territories with a view to development
Alongside my colleagues from the other municipalities
we have also agreed that the network should become a key representative for industry professionals
gaining greater influence in institutional dialogues to benefit the economy and the distinctive qualities of our seven municipalities.”

Members of the table grape industry are preparing to come together for their second annual Regina di Puglia meeting on 21-24 July
which aims to promote the south-east Italian region of Puglia as a major source of top-quality grapes
incorporates visits to vineyards and packhouses
business meetings between local producers and buyer-distributors
It is the second major industry event to take place in Puglia this month, following the Fruitnet Grape Congress on 4 July. At that event, 250 delegates from 16 different countries learnt about new market trends including a push towards better-performing varieties
Regina di Puglia takes place around Noicàttaro and is organised by the Municipality of Noicattaro with support from Omnibus
It also has the backing of a group known as Le Terre dell’Uva
a network of towns to the south-east of Bari which are all centres of table grape production and have come together to promote the industry
Key figures involved in the event include: Raimondo Innamorato
Noicàttaro Agriculture Councillor; Germana Pignatelli
Noicàttaro Councillor for Territorial Development; Luciana Di Bisceglie
president of the Bari Chamber of Commerce; Pietro Piccioni

that it can bring together products and territorial development as a whole
based on sustainability that is not only economic but also social.”
The event is sponsored by retailer Megamark (Famila Superstore)
with support from CNA Puglia and the Tenuta Viglione Winery

Seven years have passed since the launch of the Karmen scales
lightweight and practical piece of equipment for the packaging of table grapes (and other products) upon harvesting
as they can be hooked to all types of stand
"Many structural modifications have been introduced over the years
which enabled us to shift from the initial 5.5 kg of the version released in 2017 to the current 2.8 kg
The restyling also included the power source
as now both rechargeable and disposable batteries can be used
Our laboratories are already at work for the new production: we have to deliver over 200 scales
a good part of which destined to early production areas in Italy," explains Giuseppe Rescina
sales manager of Rescina Service in Noicattaro (Bari)
"This piece of equipment is known and used by Italian
European and extra-European grape producers and demand has increased also during difficult years such as the past one
when it was estimated that the drop in yields would have forced agricultural entrepreneurs to limit investments
We actually registered a 20% increase in deliveries
The lack of seasonal workers is pushing companies to equip themselves with tools like this one
making harvesting and transportation easier."
Karmen scales are equipped with supports and a folding table (adjustable in depth) that facilitate the packaging of agricultural products
as they support all kinds of containers up to max 25 kg
The helical cable that can be moved inside the box makes it possible to move the display and control buttons
thus promoting the sale of more modern equipment."

Cotton Candy is a white seedless grape variety known for its distinctive sweet aroma and scent
an Apulian producers' organization based in Noicattaro (Bari)
which has about 400 hectares of organic grapes
We talked about this with Marilena Daugenti Tarulli
sales manager of the aforementioned Apulian company
We are shipping a truckload a day to German and Swiss large-scale retail chains
customers who seem to really appreciate this variety
we have designed packaging reminiscent of the colors of candy and colored jellybeans to symbolize the unique taste and aroma of this special grape."
orders from Germany and Switzerland have been steadily increasing
so much so that we expect to finish the 2022 season in two weeks at the latest."
Op Tarulli is the exclusive licensee for organic crops of Cotton Candy
"there are 10 hectares in production for this variety
Our company is the largest in Europe in the production and marketing of organic grapes
with 50 cultivars of three different colors (white
from the beginning of July until the end of November."
Cotton Candy Organic Grapes - Packaging OP Tarulli
despite the difficult economic environment we have been experiencing for months
This is our second season with Cotton Candy
The only negative note is the sales prices
which are still below last year's average (-10/20%)
this is an issue that involves all grape cultivars
What weighs the most are the costs of packaging
due to which we had to increase wages to incentivize workers."

Eight of Italy’s most important fresh grape production areas have agreed to pool resources and work together on joint promotional activities to support sales and exports of the fruit
which are located in Puglia and together form Italy and Europe’s largest production centre for table grapes
signed a memorandum of understanding to that effect during Regina di Puglia
The initiative is seen as a unique project in Italy’s fruit and vegetable sector
Puglia’s regional agriculture representative Donato Pentassuglia told the event: “Here [is] a new process
to build a network of relationships that is fundamental for our agricultural economy.”
president of the UniVerde Foundation and former Italian Minister of Agriculture
are finally valued by telling people about their territory,” he commented
president of Puglia export association APEO
underlined the region’s importance when it comes to a product that is second only to apples in terms of the country’s fruit and veg exports
“58 per cent of Italian table grapes come from here
but we must stop talking about it among ourselves,” he urged
“We must make our role known in the local and national economy.”
Donato Fanelli of Italy’s recently established table grape consortium CUT
believes the new entity will play a vital role
and we can become the Assomela of table grapes,” he suggested
“In a few months we have already registered 11,000ha
the first big step for a national product register.”
The eight zones involved are Noicattaro (which has led the project’s initial development)
The interest for organic table grapes has grown in various European countries
the leading producer of organic table grapes on the continent with a sales calendar that goes from July to mid-December and over 20 supermarket chains involved
"The start of the new season is just a few weeks' away
but we are at work to guarantee and plan supplies
The remaining part reaches north-European countries instead
The interest is growing from France and Poland as well
unfortunately we are not managing to stand out as we are doing abroad
Supplying Italian supermarkets would please us greatly
but so far quantities have been marginal and non-homogeneous
plus there are 100 hectares owned by our partners
but our wish to stand out always paid off," explains Marilena Daugenti Tarulli
OP Tarulli operates in Noicàttaro (Bari) and boasts a wide range of varieties
It harvests grapes five months a year (July to November)
but sales can extend to the Christmas holidays thanks to cold storage
"We have registered a 20-30% drop in volumes for early varieties
which holds the Bio Suisse and Demeter certifications
has recently obtained another certification - Naturland - which guarantees that the production meets strict ecological and social requirements
