Nola still sharp in 1st win of '25May 4th
PHILADELPHIA – Less than an hour before first pitch on Saturday night, Aaron Nola’s neck locked up in the weight room in the Phillies’ clubhouse at Citizens Bank Park
It was enough of a concern that the Phillies announced minutes before the game that they had reinstated left-hander Ranger Suárez from the 15-day injured list a day before he was scheduled to make his season debut
but the Phils needed Suárez available in case they decided at the last moment that Nola could not pitch
or if Nola could only pitch an inning or two
Phillies pitching coach Caleb Cotham and third-base coach Dusty Wathan informed J.T
“We were kind of worried,” Realmuto said, following a 7-2 victory over the Diamondbacks
But the athletic training staff worked on Nola’s neck
so I could look left toward the plate,” Nola said
but it didn’t get any worse during the game
I don’t think it’s going to be any long-term
He allowed four hits, one walk and struck out eight in six scoreless innings against Arizona, which entered the game sixth in baseball averaging 5.09 runs per game. On Sunday night at Wrigley Field, he allowed one run in seven innings against the Cubs
who lead baseball averaging 6.12 runs per game
That’s one run in 13 innings in two starts against two of the best offenses in the game
“I think all my pitches feel pretty good right now,” Nola said
“Getting ahead of the hitters better than I was the first few starts and putting them away when I need to.”
Nola struck out Corbin Carroll looking on a 94.4 mph fastball to start the game
He threw a 94.3 mph fastball to Ketel Marte in the first inning
It was his second-hardest pitch of the season
Nola hadn’t thrown anything harder than 93.7 mph in his first six starts
“The fastball felt good coming out of the hand,” he said
“His stuff was sharp the whole outing,” Realmuto said
While it’s never been about velocity for Nola
the extra finish to his fastballs mean a lot
He struck out four Diamondbacks on four-seamers and sinkers
He hadn’t struck out more hitters on fastballs in a game since he struck out seven Braves on Sept
Pavin Smith lined out to left fielder Max Kepler in the first inning
It was the only ball hit in the air against Nola the entire game
“He did a lot of good things,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said
Kepler hit a two-run homer in the second inning to give the Phils a 2-0 lead
Brandon Marsh snapped a 0-for-31 slump in his first game back from the injured list
doubling to score a run in the second to make it 3-0
Realmuto’s three-run homer in the third made it 6-0

If you're looking for a model that falls somewhere in between the two
we've found the perfect affordable option!
When we saw Better Homes & Gardens’ Nola Coffee Table
we couldn't believe that it's available for just $99
Walmart shoppers said that despite its low price point
it looks and feels very “elegant” and "high end." In fact
we spotted a similar style at Pottery Barn that has the same aesthetic
but is seven times more expensive than the budget-friendly version
It features a durable tempered glass top that's fixed onto a gold metal frame that has an additional ring close to the base for added stability
There's enough surface area on top for you to add flower arrangements
with room to spare for snacks and drinks.
The design of this table is definitely simple
but the combination of glass and gold creates an eye-catching style that reviewers said looks "absolutely gorgeous" and "really added a touch of elegance" to their living rooms
The table was also reportedly "very easy to assemble," and shoppers were thoroughly "impressed" by its quality considering how affordable it is
The Walmart version doesn't have an extra glass layer or the exact same frame
but it gets you the same aesthetic for a fraction of the price.
One shopper said that "if you're on the fence about" ordering this table to just "buy it," and we plan to do that before it sells out

PHILADELPHIA — A steady rain fell in the early innings of Saturday’s contest between the Diamondbacks and Phillies
And as the offense tasked with supplying him run support poured it on early
Aaron Nola turned in his second straight strong performance
firing six shutout innings in a 7-2 Phillies win
His seventh of the night was a 94.4 mph fastball on the outside corner that froze Corbin Carroll for a called third strike; it was Nola’s first of eight strikeouts
The right-hander allowed just four hits all night
Nola found himself in a jam in the top of the second; runners were on first and second after back-to-back singles
He then got Alek Thomas to roll into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play
Only one more batter turned into a runner in scoring position against Nola over his final four innings
Thomas reached second base in the fifth inning on a hustle double
After sitting nine-hole hitter Geraldo Perdomo down on strikes for the second out of the inning
a good thing because he entered with 96 pitches
Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suárez — to all ground out
Any worries about Nola’s early-season velocity should simmer down
After better velocity in his previous outing
Nola’s four-seam fastball averaged 92.2 mph on Saturday
He was reaching up to 94 mph early in his outing
Nola’s final fastball — pitch No
108 of his night — was a 90.8 mph four-seamer
Nola’s efforts on Saturday followed a seven-inning performance from last Sunday
when he allowed just one run on three hits with six strikeouts in Chicago against the Cubs
The right-hander has lowered his season ERA to 4.61
A pair of three-run innings supplied Nola with an early six-run lead
Max Kepler went yard for the fifth time this year

the Phillies scored seven runs on nine hits against D-Backs starter Brandon Pfaadt
The Phillies scorched a number of balls against Pfaadt
registering 12 hard hits; eight had triple-digit exit velocities
the Phillies (19-14) have secured their third straight series win
They’ll go for the sweep on Sunday with Ranger Suárez

'Vintage' Nola overcomes early-season woes in dominant start vs
CubsRight-hander tosses 7 innings of 1-run ball after entering 0-5 with 6.43 ERAApril 28th
CHICAGO -- Aaron Nola has been a steady
reliable presence in the Phillies’ rotation for the majority of his big league career
With the 31-year-old right-hander’s durability -- only two injured list stints since the start of 2017 -- and reliability over nearly the last decade
he’d earned his status as one of Philadelphia’s trustworthy arms
That’s part of why it was jarring to see him enter his start Sunday at Wrigley Field 0-5 with a 6.43 ERA after five starts
But in the spotlight of Sunday Night Baseball
Nola put together his best start of the year
A stellar seven-inning, one-run pitching performance, followed by two shutdown frames from the Phillies’ bullpen, kept the Cubs’ offense at bay long enough to get Sunday night’s series finale to extra innings. And finally, in the top of the 10th, the offense backed them up en route to the 3-1, 10-inning win at Wrigley Field
“That was vintage Noles,” shortstop Trea Turner said
“He's had some tough luck with the weather and the games he's pitched in
and just that little window and he was back to his old self
Right fielder Nick Castellanos began the 10th as the automatic runner at second base
Realmuto and left fielder Max Kepler drew back-to-back walks to load the bases
Third baseman Alec Bohm then drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly and
Turner beat out an infield single to third
José Alvarado and Jordan Romano each tossed a scoreless frame in the eighth
closing the game out and giving the Phillies the series win in Chicago
Philadelphia may not have been in that position
racking up six strikeouts across his season-high seven innings
The lone blemish on his day came in the bottom of the second
when he allowed back-to-back doubles to give Chicago an early lead
He looked much more like the starter the Phillies re-signed to a seven-year
$172 million contract in November 2023 than the one who’d lost each of his first five starts this season
Phillies skipper Rob Thomson mentioned Nola having the cutter working for perhaps the first time all year
“It might've been as good as it's been in a while.” He threw that pitch on 17 of his 99 offerings
Thomson was asked if he had any explanation for why Nola hadn’t been performing like himself
he pointed out that the conditions in which Nola has had to pitch could’ve affected his command -- a big part of who he is as a pitcher
So how did Thomson feel about Nola’s command after Sunday
“Nola pitched his best game of the year as far as command,” he said
Command was outstanding from what I saw from the side.”
Getting through the beginning of the season
when he just didn’t look like his best self
But if there’s a player equipped to handle those kinds of tough times
and he knows that he's good and he knows that if he has a bad outing
He's got a slow heartbeat all the time
is this is just the start of a big season for Nola on the mound
Thomson said he remains someone who “walks in
goes to work every day and does the same thing.”
So even now that there’s a great outing on the books for Nola in 2025
Just stay focused as much as I can and go out and compete and try to go deep in the game and limit their runs
I got to compete as best as possible out there and try to win.”

The rival Atlanta Falcons made additions through last week's NFL Draft that could help the team in the long run, but still have question marks at quarterback
Another South rival that is trying to improve is the New Orleans Saints
New Orleans finished 5-12 last season and missed the playoffs for the fourth year in a row. New head coach Kellen Moore hopes to turn the offense around, but will have his work cut out for him with a quarterback room in turmoil as Derek Carr could be lost for the season after a shoulder injury
General manager Mickey Loomis took former Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough in the second round, but he hardly seems ready to lead an NFL franchise early on
That's why the notion that the Saints could sign six-time Pro Bowl wideout Keenan Allen seems ridiculous
SaintsWire's Luke Loffredo offered that possibility
adding Allen to a room that just added Brandin Cooks back into the fold in New Orleans
receiver could seem like a glaring need at the moment," Loffredo said
"With the top three guys at the position being Olave
the team still lacks the possession guy that was once the great Michael Thomas
Keenan Allen could be a potential option in free agency
but a one-year rental just doesn’t make sense for this team right now."
The Saints have a lot more roster holes than wideout right now
and Loomis should be looking for a solution under center unless he believes Shough or Desmond Ridder could be the answer
There is some serious talent on the offensive line
The quarterback position was decimated by injuries itself
but it didn't help with the line struggling as well
As the 2025 National Football League Draft approached
there was a lot of speculation about who the team could pick as their first selection with Kellen Moore as head coach
but most of the chatter revolved around playmakers or maybe even a quarterback
but did so with an offensive tackle in Kelvin Banks Jr
He's a talented guy and Pro Football Focus' Dalton Wasserman thinks he'll get a shot right away to show what he can do as he called him a "virtual lock" to start right away
Each of these players was selected within the first 34 picks in the draft and has virtually nothing in their way of gaining a starting spot."
This isn't the most shocking thing in the world
The Saints wanted to bolster the offensive line and clear did so

most of the league is now in the offseason
with a lot of decisions to be made and to come
One of those teams that will be taking time to evaluate their roster this offseason is the New Orleans Pelicans
who are now under the new leadership of Joe Dumars
Following up on one of their best years in franchise history in the 2023-24 season
the Pelicans watched injuries derail their season as they are set to have the fourth-best odds to select first overall in the 2025 NBA Draft
the biggest talking point remains the future of star Zion Williamson
and a new report suggests where he could be on his way to
REPORT: The Pelicans are “keeping close tabs” on Giannis’ situation in Milwaukee, per @ScoopB.“I’m told Zion could very well be on the table in a potential Giannis deal if Milwaukee chooses to explore trade options.” pic.twitter.com/VNvfks6ufM
According to NBA Insider Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson
the Pelicans are keeping an eye out on Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo's situation following his first-round exit
After the Bucks won the NBA Finals in 2021
they've now lost in the first round for three straight seasons
Giannis Antetokounmpo reportedly enjoys New York, owns multiple businesses there, and is reportedly viewed by the Brooklyn Nets as a ‘prime target,’ per @NYPost_Lewis pic.twitter.com/S0pxgT3jyd
While the Pelicans do have Milwaukee's 2027 first-round pick and the rights to swap in 2026 as intriguing assets
plenty of other teams around the league will also be willing to shell out whatever is needed if Antetokounmpo becomes available
But if the Bucks do decide to embrace a rebuild and tank
a deal with the Pelicans makes sense to gain control of their picks back and bring in Williamson
who has proven he's a star in this league when he's healthy

While this is the case, he isn't the only big addition the team made. The Saints' first pick of the 2025 NFL Draft was offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. Newsweek's Matt Galatzan made a list of each team's "best pick" and worst pick" in the NFC South
he called Banks the team's "best pick."
"New Orleans Saints," Galatzan said
Texas product Kelvin Banks is going to be a stalwart in the NFL for a long time at the left tackle spot and he is a great fit in New Orleans to protect their future franchise quarterback
Kellen Moore starts off his tenure in the Big Easy with a big win."
Banks' selection came as somewhat of a surprise for the Saints at No
The Saints were linked to a wide range of potential offensive playmakers but opted for the safer pick to beef up the offensive line
He's not a huge-name prospect, but he did draw a comparison to two-time Pro Bowler Rashawn Slater by ESPN's Matt Miller
"Matt Miller's pro comp: Rashawn Slater," Miller said
The Saints recently decided to not pick up the fifth-year option on right tackle Trevor Penning
making that spot a key need this offseason
who started for three seasons at left tackle
could occupy the blinside while moving 2024 first-rounder Taliese Fuaga back to his college position on the right side
The Saints now have versatility and can begin to rebuild a strength on the offensive line with the high floor of Banks."

LOGAN STRUCKLogan Struck is a writer covering the NBA for Sports Illustrated's On SI since 2023
For the third straight season, the Milwaukee Bucks have failed to impress in the NBA playoffs as they were eliminated in the first round at the hands of the Indiana Pacers
The Bucks’ early exit could have huge consequences for the franchise in the future in the form of 2x NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo
Antetokounmpo has remained loyal to the Bucks throughout his career, but it feels like he’s wasting his prime at this point. As a result, the rumor mill suggests that Giannis and the Bucks will mutually discuss his future in the offseason
If a player of Antetokounmpo’s caliber becomes available for trade
it is bound to lead to a bidding war among every franchise in the NBA
“Sources tell me new Pelicans President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars will be meeting with Zion Williamson in the near future
as the franchise continues to evaluate its future,” Robinson wrote
He added: “I’m told Zion could very well be on the table in a potential Giannis deal if Milwaukee chooses to explore trade options.”
Trading for Antetokounmpo is one thing, but parting ways with franchise star Zion Williamson in the process is completely different
When he’s healthy, there’s no doubt that Zion is one of the most dominant players on the court. Unfortunately, the Pelicans have hardly witnessed that version of Williamson throughout his tenure with the team.
Williamson was restricted to just 30 games due to a plethora of injury troubles
Robinson reported: “This isn’t just speculation
There’s been growing frustration internally between Zion and Pelicans ownership — and while Dumars will get his opportunity to sit down and get a read on Zion firsthand
I’m told that a trade involving the former No
1 overall pick is very much on the table this offseason.”
With Williamson missing the majority of the season
it wasn’t a surprise that the Pelicans finished as the 14th seed in the conference with an abysmal 21-61 record
Strong and surprising NBA rumors emerge about a possible exchange between the Pelicans and the Bucks this summer
Many ideas are circulating in NBA rumors about the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo after the early elimination of the Milwaukee Bucks and the feeling that the project has come to an end
One of the most surprising rumors that has emerged in recent hours involves Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans
Months of incessant NBA rumors lie ahead regarding the possible destinations for Giannis Antetokounmpo in the league
as he is considered to have many options to leave the Milwaukee Bucks
The Greek player feels that his time with the team where he won the championship has come to an end and that it is time for a change of scenery
The challenge lies in finding a franchise with the right financial and sporting conditions to handle his transfer
One of these destinations could be the New Orleans Pelicans
a team that is desperately seeking the departure of Zion Williamson
The situation between player and franchise is very strained and needs to be resolved quickly to avoid worsening matters
The Louisiana team aims for greatness and knows that they could maintain their core of Ingram and McCollum around Giannis Antetokounmpo
positioning themselves as contenders for everything
Whether this idea will come to fruition remains to be seen

A lot of people didn't like this draft selection for the Saints
but their front office and coaching staff seems to be in love with the rookie's tools and skillset
Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski recently suggested the Saints should look past the 2025 season and toward Arch Manning and the 2026 season
Considering the Saints just drafted Shough
"Shough should be starting out of the gate since he'll turn 26 as a rookie after spending seven seasons bouncing between the Oregon Ducks
he has a significant injury and only one season as a full-time starter
but his resume doesn't inspire a lot of confidence
Shough's draft status also doesn't dictate a look beyond the upcoming campaign
especially if the Saints find themselves among next year's top-five draft picks."
It's hard to make a suggestion like this to any team in the league
let alone one that just draft a quarterback in the second-round
the Saints will be back at the top of the NFL Draft in 2026
This could end up landing them a quarterback like Arch Manning
but it would reflect horribly on the team's decision to draft Shough

Coming off a historic 2025 campaign, the Detroit Pistons are a team many will have their eye on this offseason
debates have already begun on if the front office should seek some major win-now upgrades
By far the biggest takeaway from the Pistons this season was Cade Cunningham cementing himself as a star-level talent in the NBA
1 pick shined all year and put together an impressive postseason debut
While he's proven capable of being the primary pillar for the franchise
it remains unclear if the roster has a talent capable of being his running mate
Jaden Ivey showed a lot of promise this season but suffered what became a season-ending injury in January
When it comes to possible co-stars for Cunningham, Zion Williamson is a name that has been tossed around at times. Over the weekend, a possible trade framework for the New Orleans Pelicans star began making the rounds on social media
Ron Holland and a pair of first-round picks for the All-Star forward
Imagine Cade x ZION Should the Pistons & Pelicans make this trade to unite the former No.1 overall picks in Detroit? #DetroitBasketball | #Pelicans pic.twitter.com/obah5VRzyu
Williamson would be an exciting star to pair with Cunningham
The two impact the game in a variety of ways
and could create one of the league's deadliest pick-and-roll combinations
the thought of Williamson has been far better than the reality in recent years
Williamson is fresh off playing in 30 or fewer games for the fourth time since being drafted No
this is a bit of a risky move for the Pistons
they're still rolling the dice on a star who hasn't proven he can consistently be available
Trajan Langdon would be far better off pursuing other avenues to improve the roster around Cunningham

After an abysmal 2024 season that saw them finish with a 5-12 record and in fourth place in the NFC South, the New Orleans Saints had an action-packed offseason
This started with the firing of Dennis Allen in the middle of last season
which led to the team hiring former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their new head coach
Shemar Jean-Charles and Olisaemeka Udoh join other other teams
Jonah Williams and Davon Godchaux in free agency
and nine intriguing rookies through the 2025 NFL draft
including Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks
Texas defensive tackler Vernon Broughton and Virginia safety Jonas Sanker in the first two days
With all the changes that the Saints made, Bleacher Report's Moe Moton views them as the biggest loser in the NFC South
mostly due to their questions at the quarterback position
Derek Carr started just 10 games for New Orleans in 2024 due to a shoulder injury
leading the club to a 5-5 record while completing 67.7% of his passes for 2,145 yards

Carr's tenure with the Saints hasn't gone as either side would hope
as the team is just 14-13 in his 27 starts over two years
He also has a $20.46 million cap hit in 2025 which jumps to $69.21 million next year which will likely lead to his release as a post-June 1 cut in 2026
While they drafted Shough in the second round
he's not exactly expected to be the team's franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future
The conundrum at the most important position in sports is enough for Moton to put them at the bottom of the division
it wouldn't be surprising to see New Orleans finish in fourth again in the NFC South
