SEARCHThe global authority in superyachting
What remains of the 47-metre Heesen yacht Atina has been recovered in Sardinia, Italy.
The yacht was harnessed and lifted out of the water by pontoon Conquest MB1 and will soon be transported for demolition.

On 11 August, Atina sunk approximately 300 metres from the coast of Olbia in Sardinia, Italy following a fire that broke out in the stern. Dramatic footage taken by the Olbia Coast Guard shows the flames spread until the superyacht is entirely engulfed. She then begins to list and sink.

The Olbia Fire Brigade worked alongside the Olbia Coast Guard to tackle the blaze from 8pm local time
Eight people were on board but were evacuated and confirmed safe by authorities
The recovery of the yacht follows an operation to remove the 33,000 litres of fuel and 18 batteries that were on board at the time
Piras also told BOAT International that the defueling process caused "a small leak" from a pipe compromised in the fire
Atina was delivered by the Dutch shipyard in 2008 and won a Neptune at the World Superyacht Awards the following year
She has sailed under many names, including Elandess, Raasta and Naseem. The superyacht was most recently sold in 2021 at a last known asking price of €16,250,000. Atina then underwent an extensive, multi-month refit with Turkish shipyard FDC Yachts to optimise her for charter.
The most noteworthy change was the sundeck, which was redesigned with a larger pool set forward of the new navigation mast, a Teppanyaki grill and a large bar that could seat up to 12 guests for parties or sporting events.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Maritime Authority of Olbia.
BOAT International will update the story as it develops.

And unfortunately they will start cutting summer increase soon because of crew shortage
They sure need to hire a lot more flight crews
they hired enough flight attendants in the last two years
@09:23 but they are keep leaving either for other airlines or changing job field completely
Rostering is their biggest complain about working for JU
The new cabin crew management fired so many experienced flight attendants based on personal opinion and not merit this year
and many cabin seniors left because they are not satisfied with the women who is in charge of them from this January
I may even book a flight to Sardinia for next july
is not expensive if you don't take a car
Tour operators will book 90% of flight just as Catania and Palermo
Catania was much cheaper in august with travel agency then ticket on website + booking
I feel like they’re spreading themselves too thin
Much better to have more frequencies than these 1-2pw destinations
So much about "listening what president says".BS
like the majority of politicians across the world
But it didn't stop freedom fighters here claiming the airline is taking orders from him
BS is that people are saying how JU listens president. But
I think you understood it on the beginning
Hub and Spoke model is not reliable any more with all those crew
maintanance and plane issues helped with BEG''s poor support which is negative
leisure market prooven strong and healthy and JU act promptly towards that oportunity
...and then you woke up and realized Air Serbia hub and spoke is doing great and growing
Now more than 40% of Air Serbia passengers are transfers
It's doing great with all those cancelations
it is stil alive but now the focus is on leisure when the money is
You must have been a frequent passenger on their 1 weekly TSN service to be so pressed about it
but Air Serbia is firmly on track to another record year
Fuelled by Air Serbia (certainly not by Wizz!)
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport will also have busiest year ever
Air Serbia had younger fleet age than other flag carriers in the Ex Yu region
Are you a frequent JU flyer to both TSN and ORD to be affected so much
More likely you are the one that made a pledge to never fly Air Serbia again
And as such your opinion is rarely factual and not really relevant
@anon 18:39FYI just flew 2 times with JU last month and I've chosen JU over W6
And I will choose JU again over any other carrier on a specfic route even if the price is equal
Very much proud to fly a plane running by Serbian crew and Serbian FA's speaking Serbian hi in the sky
And my dear friend my first flight ever was JU on Caravlle back in 1973
B707 and so on for the last half a century
I wish all the best to JU and it's business model
fund it good and pro active and I support it
JU is at the moment dominant regional carrier and BEG is regional hub
But fir a real Hub And Spoke model they have a lot of work to do together with Vinci and the Ground Agent
Long haul service in reallity relies on JFK alone with 3pw during winter.
let's wait and see CAN performace in couple of months
ORD and TSN are symbolic and PVG starts in a couple of months. So yes
but a lot should be done to become a serious player
scrapy Pupin and partly Tesla's interrior and so on
But I like them and support every time by flying with JU
Don't expect them to become big and serious player
Their goal is to be regional player as far as I understand
Probably smaller version of Austrian or LOT
and rent a car to the south….people are never happy with them what get
only unhappy what’s they don’t get
Isn’t the most popular tourist region in the south of Sardinia
Olbia region is much more expensive but the best sea is there
that's why fools like tim cook and leo di caprio go there instead of Pula (yes
there is a Pula also in Sardinia) not to say the south does not deserve a visit
I'm completely weird to find South much much more attractive
our ancestors that manage to build towers 3000 years ago
South is calmer as there is not 1.5 million italians going there from july to first week of September
If you go now to Olbia is full of austrians
germans and Poles with campers as it is easier for them to get access to Olbia port
Tenerife definitely isn't on their radar
I think Tenerife would be much smarter move than Kazan
Anonymous12:16Yes because Canarian diaspora has about 100k people living in Serbia unlike Russian diaspora..
@12:43Serbs actually want to go to Tenerife
Not so much to Kazan.Russians can try Air Russia or something
Tired with all these stupid seasonal leisure destinations
They need to launch business and cargo-heavy year-round medium to high frequency routes such as: - Cairo- Tel Aviv- Baku- Yerevan- Baghdad- Erbil- Tbilisi - Delhi..
This is not strategy but a lack of strategy. Also
they've got 10 ATR but haven't launched ONE single new ATR destination
More choices for our summer summer vacations is more then welcome.
Mykonos and Ibiza are great money makers and extremely popular tourist spots
So I think they know better than you what to add
They certainly don't add destinations for your entertainment
they should follow this path because on these routes they earn much more money than on connecting flights from Cairo
What exactly strategy are you talking about
Outlining a list of cities in unstable countries and those Serbia barely does any business with is a strategy
Man's out here bringing out Erbil and expecting us to take him seriously
and well developed business case to boot: business and cargo heavy year-round high frequency route like Erbil
proposing such a list would be countered with a list of medications that person should be on
And frequent reminders not to skip taking them
those good old days are gone and we now try using empathy and guidance to help those poor souls
Here's my advice: give up and try meditation instead
Your empathy is record high.Everybody has a right to write the routes the company should fly without being insulted..
I thank JU for introducing JMK however I am familiar to it and my old and new opinion is that it would last for a season; if any
Looks like you don't even understand what empathy means :DPost those lists wherever you want
but you won't get same response here as on some amaterur analyst sites
Here you get response commensurate with your "expertise"
I haven't taken my medication for a few a days
here's my wet dream list of destinations JU need to fly to
hence Mykonos is beyond the pocket for 2x week
I do not think that introducing new leisure routes is stupid
I occasionally find false argue comments on this website for whatever reason and I dislike it
Any country from where you can easily get to Russia will be instantly sought after by Russians
However JU should focus on year-round operations with potential for more than 2pw
Touristic island destinations are very important for any southern European airline
I didn’t notice that they had charters to Sardinia or Ibiza so far
Antalya are still not planned as a regular season routes
So it's a shame you can not buy ticket to a lot of destinations where JU anyway flies
They used to have charters to Alghero before Covid
Turkish and Tunisian destinations cannot be regular because of the bilateral agreement
strong charter routes are becoming regular ones because JU
So soon have they announced the summer 2025 routes
In Spain that's something more like Seville or Alicante
Weren't people complaining here how they don't announce routes in advance and that it is bad
Now it is an issue when they announce them early
You can never make people happy. It is great that they announced these routes and others who don't like the fact JU opens new destinations will find some complaint
I don't think it's bad that they announce it soon (it's their money)
I'm just surprised that it's at the beginning of November
when Air Serbia's policy is to do it later
Congratulations Air Serbia! This winter we have OMO
but this morning it was mentioned here AHO
Probably more wet leases coming for the summer
Better to have more flights with wet leases planes than to have less flights with less planes
Too bad they are not launching winter getaway destinations like Tenerife
I can drive to Montenegro or Greece if I want sea and sun in the summer
Miroslav NY12:14I see your point and I can partially agree
but lets say you are in Belgrade and you want to to Budva its an 8h drive
to go to the nearest beach in Greece you need about 6 to 7 hours on a day without issues at the borders
Soooooo using a car to reach a beach even in the summer is hell
@Miroslav NY12:14CAI would be useful to visit during the winter the Red Sea Riviera
You can drive to Zagreb and fly to Tenerife from there
and risk leaving a car with Belgrade license plates in Zagreb
You can also drive to Budapest and fly to Tenerife
Don’t get surprised if you see Italians inside
Sardegna and very expensive from Northern Italy
JU is know for having lower costs than for example FR in BGY
They are asking even 600 euros in peak Season
they know how to screw passengers to board onto plane
by placing 15 flights to be delayed all by 89 minutes. Then if you are not in front of the gate
more likely you are watching screen/monitor
you will find person in front of the gate to tell you
even if aircraft will depart one hour later. In this case
that Ryanair has sold tickets for more money
without telling others to been screwed over. They have lot of fraud schemes
every day you find people in front of their window office at BGY
yelling and complaining with Security to protect Ryanair employees.Maybe for that reason
Ryanair has closed all their office windows in Italy and some other company will represent them. Not good for Company image
seeing every day fighting.Pay less for having bad service.Only kids in Italy are flying with Ryanair
let’s say around 20 years old.Wizzair is also well known for bad service.Easyjet and Vueling are more likely to be flown by serious people
low cost but with descent service. No Service
The next routes in Greece should probably be Santorini and Kefalonia
Kefalonia (sometimes via Preveza) and Santorini are served as charters
Greece has many more destinations and potential that could work with JU
now connecting you with all of Europe’s party and nightclub destinations.”
And what is wrong with "connecting with party destinations"
When Lufthansa flies to such destinations it is okay
Lufthansa maintains daily flights to all major destinations with a fleet of about 200 narrowbodies and maintains multiple daily frequencies to all major business destinations
JU has 13 narrowbody jets not including the wet-leased aircraft from GetJet and Fly2Sky
Attempting to fly to any and all tourist destinations with limited frequency at the expense of increased frequency to major business destinations and the complete absence of flying to major cities and/or capitals such as Munich
Helsinki etc means that JU is becoming more of a point to point leisure airline catering for the domestic market and less of a hub and spoke connector
The economy does not grow from leisure flying of 20 year old university students but from business connectivity
Have you maybe thought there is no demand for Dublin even with some transfer feed and that the expense of operating such a long rotation would not make financial sense
Your notion that they are becoming a point to point carrier is complete bullocks illustrated by the rising share of transfer passengers they carry
Love the know it all armchair experts who talk out of their ass without any data
any market research or any market analysis
Btw a flight to Ibiza on which tour operators will buy out 80% of seats in advance whether they fill them or not will actually make them money
Not much of a difference in flight times between Belgrade and Ibiza and Belgrade-Dublin
Ibiza is visited not only by tourists from Serbia but from many other places in the region
You may have noticed that the Spanish market has seen the biggest increase in tourists from Serbia this year among Serbian tour operators
There are barely any economic relations between Serbia and Ireland
making business travel almost non existent
Tour operators will book out most seats on flight between Belgrade and Ibiza
making it a safe choice for the airline which will get paid regardless if the tour operator can fill the seats
They should choose routes where they need to burn money or struggle to make money instead of routes where they can definitely make money
And I can assure you Ibiza will have more transfer traffic than Dublin ever could
Anon 1:07 The economy does not grow from leisure flying of 20 year old university students but from business connectivity.Actually it does
That's how Ryanair grew their own airline business into largest one in Europe
I was talking about the country (not the airline)
Sure you will get more low yield pax but you will never compete on cost against Wizz
Take a closer look at routes where W6/JU overlap and you will see JU competing well against Lcc
Dublin is repeatedly listed in top 3 unserved destinations from BEG
despite Ireland requiring visas for Serbians
It is listed in the top 3 because almost everything else is served from Belgrade
So happy that they will put it on their network!Given our geographical position
it's perfectly reasonable to go for these destinations used by high yield pax.For sure there will be quite nice cabin load from both P2P and connecting travelers.Even think that they could consider Paros as well - it's growing really fast as a destination
will for sure get near to where Mykonos was couple of decades ago - and so few airlines are flying over there directly
But for me its great since I can go directly now

The Board of Directors of ENAC (National Civil Aviation Authority) has decided to name the Olbia-Costa Smeralda airport in memory of Prince Karim Aga Khan IV
recognizing his extraordinary contribution to the development of tourism in Sardinia
The decision – reads a note – follows the official request presented by the municipality of Olbia
which underlined the importance of the Aga Khan in the economic and cultural transformation of the region
facilitating access to the island thus determining the economic and social growth of the island
he was instrumental in the construction of the airport itself
today recognized as one of the main international general aviation hubs in the world
Similarly to how the Milan Malpensa airport was named after the president Silvio Berlusconi and as recognized by the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers
the request to change the airport name falls within the jurisdiction of ENAC
as the sole Authority for technical regulation
supervision and control in the civil aviation sector
The Board of Directors has therefore given the acting Director General a mandate so that
after the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini
having heard the institutional arrangements
will proceed to formalize the naming of the Olbia-Costa Smeralda airport after Prince Karim Aga Khan IV through the adoption of the relevant ordinance by the competent territorial director
informing all interested parties and asking the management company to provide for the obligations connected to the new name

The works are part of the sustainable urban mobility policies
an integral part of the commitments undertaken at European level for the reduction of climate-altering emissions
The Regional Council has approved the operational programming of resources earmarked for the promotion of sustainable mobility on an urban and interurban scale
with a total allocation of 12.091.429 euros
within the scope of the Regional Programme of the European Development Fund 2021–2027
will finance three interventions in the municipalities of Cagliari
with the declared objective of reducing climate-altering emissions and strengthening infrastructures for soft mobility
the intervention includes the creation of a cycle/pedestrian connection between the districts of Monte Mixi and La Palma
through an overpass of the Asse Mediano near the streets of Salinieri and Tramontana
aims to integrate the city cycle network with the Sardinian Tourist Cycle Route
connecting the Molentargius and Poetto parks to the Monte Urpinu park and ensuring the separation between cycle/pedestrian flows and vehicle traffic
A new connection is also planned between the Terramaini park and the Su Siccu seafront along the Terramaini canal
will serve to complete two sections of the city's cycle path network: the connection in via Escrivà and the one along via Macerata
functional to the completion of the urban crossing of the Ciclovia della Sardegna
The itineraries will improve cycle-pedestrian accessibility to the port of Isola Bianca and the Costa Smeralda airport
will concern Sassari and involves the reconnection of the existing cycle path network
with new sections that will connect the city center to the neighborhoods of Latte Dolce
The goal is to complete a system of safe and functional urban routes
facilitating the use of the bicycle as a means of daily transportation
The three projects will be implemented directly by the beneficiary municipalities
an integral part of the commitments made at European level to reduce climate-altering emissions by 55% by 2030 and to eliminate them by 2050
the Department of Public Works is taking care of the design of the Regional Cycling Network to make Sardinia fully accessible by bicycle even in extra-urban areas
An environmental alert has been declared in the Gulf of Olbia after the 47-metre Heesen yacht Atina caught fire on the evening of 10 August 2024
The yacht was engulfed in flames around 500 metres from Saline Beach
resulting in a speedy response from local authorities
which reportedly started in the tender garage
quickly spread despite efforts by the Coast Guard and the Olbia Fire Department
Despite the intervention of a port tugboat
the yacht sustained extensive damage and eventually sank in
addressed the potential environmental impact to local media
noting that comprehensive monitoring is underway to prevent fuel spillage from the yacht’s 50,000 litres of fuel and hydrocarbons
Local news outlets L'Unione Sarda and La Nuova Sardegna have reported on the situation as a serious environmental concern
no leaks have been detected and access to the area is restricted for clean-up and monitoring operations
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire
but no official conclusions have been made public yet
This incident is part of a growing list of yacht fires in recent months and has also raised concerns with the wider public about the environmental risks posed by large vessels like Atina
The fire has sparked public debate about the environmental impact of yachts
with some questioning who will bear the cost of the ecological damage
and expressing sympathy for the affected marine environment
Others have also noted the frequency of such incidents
yacht owners and operators are advised to review safety measures

The Board of Directors of ENAC has resolved to rename Olbia-Costa Smeralda Airport in memory of Prince Karim Aga Khan IV
in recognition of his fundamental contribution to the development of tourism and the economy in Sardinia
This decision follows an official request made by the Municipality of Olbia and aims to honor the figure of the Prince
who passed away on February 4th in Lisbon at the age of 88
His work has had a decisive impact on the economic and cultural transformation of the island
and this renaming represents a fitting tribute to his commitment
an airline that later evolved into Meridiana and eventually Air Italy
This development facilitated access to the island
significantly contributing to the economic and social growth of the region
tourism in Sardinia experienced a boom that benefited the entire territory
Aga Khan IV played a key role in the construction of Olbia-Costa Smeralda Airport
now recognized as one of the main international general aviation hubs
an airport of great relevance for global air traffic
The decision to rename Olbia Airport in honor of Prince Aga Khan follows a similar procedure to the one used previously for renaming Milan Malpensa Airport to Silvio Berlusconi
the request to change the airport name is the responsibility of ENAC (National Civil Aviation Authority)
and oversight of the civil aviation sector
Once the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport
the procedure will be completed with the adoption of the order by the competent Territorial Director
the airport management company will take the necessary steps to update the designation

Italy — After a deadly flood tore through the city of Olbia
local politicians vowed such a tragedy would never happen again
locals and campaigners say the government has done little to prevent another disaster
even as climate change makes the likelihood of extreme weather events more likely
The Sardinian city is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of flooding thanks to a decades-long construction boom in which homes were built without the required permits and with little regard for safety
Like in many other southern European coastal cities, including along the Spanish and Portuguese coastlines
that construction was largely driven by tourism — and aided by local and national complacency
“Olbia expanded quickly, very quickly, and largely unlawfully,” said Stefano Deliperi, president of green NGO Gruppo d’Intervento Giuridico
pastures and swamps were replaced with concrete and asphalt
and new neighborhoods sprung up in areas previously occupied by water
Those changes set the city up for later tragedy, when the worst storm on record hit Sardinia in November 2013, said Barbara Lastoria, engineer at the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA)
“When you create an obstacle to the river’s flow
Even as the city struggles to build up its defenses
Now home to more than 60,000 residents, the bustling port city is a magnet for people looking for work in the lucrative tourism industry or its busy harbor
where every summer thousands of celebrities and wealthy tourists stop off en route to the island's sandy beaches and glamorous resorts
That's leading to increasingly urgent calls for local leaders to step up efforts to ensure residents are safe from future flooding
But with the city's plan to mitigate flood risks still pending approval at the regional level
Located on a floodplain crisscrossed by rivers and canals and encircled by mountains
Olbia sits in a basin where water tends to concentrate naturally
Olbiesi shrugged at occasional flooding; at most
“We were used to seeing the city flood … During heavy rains
some tunnels were constantly flooded,” said city councilor Ivana Russu
That changed dramatically with the 2013 storm, when almost 120 millimeters of rain — equivalent to over two months' worth of precipitation — fell on Olbia in just a few hours
Now, every severe weather alert strikes fear in the hearts of residents. “Every time it rains a little more than usual, it wreaks chaos in the entire neighborhood,” said Gianluca Corda, city councilor and principal of the local high school in the neighborhood Baratta, where a two-year-old and her mother drowned
The city blocked further construction projects in Baratta following the disaster
and its many unpaved roads leading to abrupt dead ends
Campaigners blame uncontrolled development for the devastation caused by the floods
Between the 1980s and the early 2000s, national building code amnesties in Italy allowed applicants to legalize homes built illegally by paying nominal fees to the local government
Olbia passed a flurry of “consolidation plans” that incorporated these unplanned neighborhoods into the city
That allowed the local government to collect taxes from residents — but didn’t necessarily imply greater municipal oversight
That lack of regulation made the 2013 flood a distinctly “unnatural disaster” with preventable loss of life
politicians at every level backed uncontrolled urban development — be it legal or illegal,” he said
“And what’s even worse is that the tragedy didn’t teach them anything
City leaders say they are taking steps to improve the city's resilience — but have struggled to make real progress
the city administration adopted a study detailing Olbia's flood risk and recommending mitigation measures such as stormwater basins to collect excess water
While the city waits for approval on a new proposal adopted last year, in December Olbia mayor Settimo Nizzi presented a preliminary public works plan to build a flood control system that allows for excess water to be collected upstream and redirected past the city
it will need approval from both the city council and the regional government
The plan is "the best possible solution" for Olbia
because it will cause minimal disruption to the city while also ensuring people's safety
Once the works are completed “there will no longer be any danger” to residents
which will take several years to implement
because you can’t predict the impact of future events … which as we’ve seen
will be a lot different from what we saw in the past,” she said
Many Olbiesi who could afford to have already fled to safer districts: Between 2011 and 2021, around 2,000 people left Olbia's high-risk neighborhoods
Those left behind are anxious for the authorities to make the area safer
but know that the glacial pace of Italian bureaucracy means they're in for a long wait
“The administration said they will act — so they should do that
a neighborhood that suffered heavy damage in 2013
“People had to take out loans to rebuild their homes and their businesses
even their clothes — and a few lost their lives
We can’t wait for 10 more years and keep praying nothing bad happens.”
Some are calling for more radical measures
“The administration should do something that is rarely done in this country — demolish every building in high-risk areas and relocate residents with some compensation,” said green campaigner Deliperi
“Of course we don’t want people to be put on the street
but if the administration chooses to leave them there
in a few years’ time there will be another flood just as devastating as 2013 — or worse.”
