A museum dedicated to the town on Lake Orta’s most famous son is born in Omegna (Verbania): it is the Rodari Museum
a multimedia museum centered on the figure of the great children’s writer
designers from auroraMeccanica who created the museum layouts
Bianchetti Architettura for the architectural design
and Studio Grand Hotel who oversaw the graphic design
leads visitors to experience new models of teaching and dissemination of intangible heritage
all based on a novel narrative itinerary on the life and poetics of Gianni Rodari
The Rodari Museum officially opens its doors on October 23
on the occasion of the 101th anniversary of Gianni Rodari’s birth
in the context of a Children’s Literature Festival dedicated to him and now in its eighth edition. The Rodari Museum is located in the heart of Omegna’s historic center and is reached by taking a small uphill road
the stream that runs through the town (a rare example of a watercourse that flows northward in the area) and is one of the symbols of Cusio
The first room of the museum is designed to welcome the public and contextualize the area: the visitor is confronted with an arched portal that recalls Omegna’s porticoes and a projection of the Nigoglia that rises in height to recall Rodari’s famous motto “La Nigoia la va in su e la legg la fouma nu.” In this first area the history of the area is told: on the one hand the significant places of Lake Orta related to Gianni Rodari’s thoughts and quotations
and on the other the creative character of Omegna told through the companies and design objects born in Omegna
The next room is dedicated to Rodari’s life: it is an intimate room with soft lighting
characterized by a large wall projection and a low table on which are a series of objects: notebooks
Each object is active: the visitor can touch it to activate a story
The object thus becomes an evocative symbol and a pretext for creating a romantic connection with the first-person narratives of the Omegna author
a wall panel draws Rodari’s life line
interweaving it with historical events in Italy and around the world
The visitor continues the visit to the second floor accompanied by the projection of the river flowing upward on the wall of the staircase
as if guiding visitors along the tour route
The first installation on the second floor
“A single pole is not enough to produce a spark
The single word acts only when it encounters a second one that provokes it
to discover new capacities of meaning.” The installation invites visitors to choose two words (e.g.
“Mustache” and “Flower”) and make a conceptual connection by joining them together
This is done by using two colored “plugs,” two poles that
activate a luminous electrical circuit and give rise to a graphic animation that highlights some imaginative phrases (e.g
“The flower under the mustache,” “The flower wanted a mustache,” “The mustache imitated the flower..
the visitor is confronted with two large installations
On the left is a giant television(Ad Inventar storie) where one is called upon to mix environments and characters from Rodari’s most famous stories to once again create new logic and new connections with imagination
The wall becomes a show in which one can find Baron Lambert interacting with the pie in the sky or Alice cascherina in the ice cream palace with the rocking horse and a cat
depending on the audience’s chosen combinations (“Sbagliando s’inventa,” Rodari said)
one stops to observe the large rotary press system of Fables in Reverse: an analog mechanism with rollers
gears and ribbon reminiscent of the newspaper press
the visitor will be able to move the entire machinery
the writing printed on the ribbon begins to move
and it is impossible to tell what is written on it
The mirror present in the center of the system is the key to understanding the fable
The last room is dedicated to one large installation: the Library of Fantasy
A real wall bookcase high to the ceiling and two lecterns arranged on the sides
On the shelves are about 300 blank books representing a Rhodesian anthology
a pulsating light brings them to life and distinguishes them from the others
Touching one of them activates a videomapping over the entire bookcase and a short story dedicated to a key theme of Rodarian thought: At the Table
The more intimate and self-contained side stations are devoted to magazines on one side (The Children’s Courier
and The Better Way) and covers from around the world on the other
a number of disk telephones are distributed through which the visitor can listen again to Accountant Bianchi’s Fables on the Telephone
By lifting the handset and dialing the number in the phone book
one can listen to a fable in Italian or foreign languages directly from the handset
“As Gianni Rodari pointed out in The Book of Mistakes,” say Mayor Paolo Marchioni and Culture Councillor Sara Rubinelli
“’What you don’t know is always more important than what you do know.’ The hope is that as we walk through the spaces of1 Rodari Museum
we discover or re-discover concepts and tools to strengthen our emotional and social intelligence
Because achieving ideals is not a goal for individual riders
but a team game where each of us can make our own move
“Almost certainly,” Pino Boero points out
“Gianni Rodari would have been able to joke in front of the creation of a museum dedicated to him
defined by Tullio De Mauro as ’a classic,’ he went around the editorial office of Paese Sera with a tag hanging from his jacket that said
’I am a classic.’ In our case Gianni would have written smilingly ’I am a Museum’ and perhaps he would have manifested
concern that he would end up in some old nineteenth-century museum display case...
None of this because the Rodari Museum tells the ’fantastic story’ of the writer
the territory and de1 historical context with the lightness of the virtual dimension
with the pleasure of the discovery of texts that come down from the shelves and images that recompose themselves; s1 will see Rodari interviewed on television and one will listen ’on the phone’ to some famous ’fables’ with the possibility
to hear them recited in different languages..
on a journey inside a museum full of surprises.”
“The choice,” they explain from Bianchetti Architettura
“fell on a municipally owned building located in the historic core of the city
a few steps from City Hall and the house where the writer was born
in order to encourage a path that from the Museum leads the visitor to the discovery of Omegna
has been entirely renovated to encourage the creation of unobstructed environments suitable for museum use.”
“The Rodari Museum’s museum itinerary,” auroraMeccanica points out
“has been designed to create an engaging
immersive multimedia experience that is accessible to all; designed with a focus on the children’s audience but capable of dialoguing with a trained adult audience as well
The interactive exhibits combine physical elements with digital video projections
mechanical components and procedural software mingle and intertwine with each other to design an unprecedented narrative journey about the life and poetics of Gianni Rodari
Visitors are asked to get involved in the first person to activate the stories and narrative mechanisms of the installations; without them
In a museum itinerary that does not display objects but stories and experiences
the real cultural content to be safeguarded and protected is precisely the visitors and their experience of visiting
it becomes a living and accessible place in which to experiment with new models of teaching and dissemination of intangible heritage
following in the fantastic footsteps of Gianni Rodari.”
“The two-color pencil or ’teacher’s pencil,’” says Studio Grand Hotel
“is the key element of the visual identity designed by Studio Grand Hotel for the Rodari Museum
it is transformed for the occasion into the scepter ’of creative error.’ Red and blue become the primary colors of the identity chromatic palette
opposing forces necessary to ignite the spark of creativity.”

(ANS - Omegna) - The civil and ecclesial community of Omegna (Verbania) holds dear the memory of its illustrious son Fr Andrea Beltrami
Recurring this year is the centenary of the transfer of the mortal remains of the young Salesian priest from the cemetery of Omegna to the Collegiate Church of Sant'Ambrogio
on the occasion of the patronal feasts of San Vito; thus they wished to remember Fr Beltrami and his testimony as a man of hope and faith
The monument that preserves the remains of Fr Beltrami bears this inscription: “The Servant of God ANDREA BELTRAMI
by decree of the Sacred Congregation of Rites
it was piously transferred to this Parish Collegiate
where it reminds fellow citizens of sublime Christian virtues." And the chronicle of the time adds that despite the secrecy surrounding the transfer and the closing of the cemetery gates
proving the high reputation of holiness in which his fellow citizen held him
This veneration for Fr Beltrami has not died out
thanks to the commitment of the parish community
it has renewed itself with various religious and social initiatives
On Sunday 22 August in the solemn Mass presided over by Fr Pierluigi Cameroni
Postulator General for the Causes of Saints of the Salesian Family
it was underlined how Fr Beltrami knew how to live God's choice in every moment of his life
especially in the hour of trial and sickness with great faith and abandonment in God
so that nothing and no one could separate him from the redemptive love of Christ."
new medals in honor of the Venerable Andrea Beltrami were blessed and a new painting by the painter Barbara Piana was unveiled and presented

A major figure of Italian design died at 87 years of age on 18 February in Milan
Alessandro Mendini combined active involvement in the ‘radical design’ movement of the 1970s – as head of the group Alchimia – with an architectural practice
This resulted in the materialization of buildings that are difficult to classify
two examples of which are the Groninger Museum and the Alessi Museum in Omegna
Mendini was in addition a refined journalist
a facet of his that he applied serving as editor of the magazines Casabella (1970-1976)

The Alessi Museum marks its 25th anniversary with a special exhibition that retraces not only the most remarkable moments in the company’s history
‘This is the first time we've held an in-store exhibition,’ says Francesca Appiani
‘We wanted to explain to the customers
or a passer-by what’s behind our pieces
It's a show meant to represent Alessi's uniqueness.’
Through 25 stories from the museum's collections
Alessi pays tribute to its 102-year history
grandson of the company founder: ‘Alessi is well-known for her kitchen accessories
it has produced for other areas of the house.’
In some cases, it’s the successful flops that matter, as Appiani explains. ‘Take, for example, Philippe Starck's “Hot Bertaa” kettle
It abruptly went out of production because of a functional problem with the pouring machine
yet it is widely published and sought after by museums and collectors.’

you can get a taste of recognisable icons

Mendini created the saxophone with the assistance of important professionals,’ says Alberto Alessi.

(ANS - Omegna) - Saturday, 25 June 2022, in Omegna saw the conclusion of the canonical recognition process of the mortal remains of Venerable Andrea Beltrami (1870-1897), which were placed, after conservation treatment, in the shrine dedicated to him in the Collegiate Church of St. Ambrose. It was an event intensely attended by the ecclesial and civic community.
After the burial, the dedication of a room to the memory of Fr. Andrea Beltrami took place with the presence of the young animators at the Sacred Heart Oratory, as a reminder of his being a Salesian and a sign of his living memory and intercession for the new generations, for vocations and for those living in trial and illness.

(ANS – Rome) – On December 15th, 1966, Pope Paul VI promulgated the decree of venerability of Fr. Andrea Beltrami SDB. The anniversary was particularly remembered both in his hometown, Omegna, and in the Salesian house of Turin-Valsalice, where he spent great part of his Salesian life and where he died in 1897.
Born in Omegna (VB) on the 24th of June 1870, Andrea was given in the family a profound Christian formation, which he later developed in the Salesian institute of Lanzo, where he enrolled in October 1883. Here his vocation grew. In 1886 he received the religious habit by Don Bosco. During the two years he spent in Turin-Valsalice he got acquainted and matured a spiritual friendship with the Polish prince Augusto Czartoryski, now blessed, who had recently joined the Salesian Congregation.
Fr. Beltrami launches to the Salesian Family the hard message of redemptive suffering, or rather of a suffering that can become mysteriously joyful in proportion with the love with which it is accepted. “Believe me – he once wrote to his Director, Fr. Scappini – in all my pains, I am happy with a full and complete bliss, to the extent that I feel like smiling when people condole me and wish me full recovery!”
Fr Beltrami's testimony confirms Don Bosco's statement: "There is only one Beltrami", as if to indicate the originality of the sanctity of this son of his in having embodied the secret core of Salesian apostolic holiness: the fruitfulness of pain lived and offered for love.

The Slovak National Museum in Bratislava is hosting the exhibition ‘Aldo Rossi – Drawings and Designs‘ for the 14th edition of the Italian Dolce Vitaj festival in Slovakia
We can’t help but remember how our father sometimes dreamily uttered the words ‘The Blue Danube’ and spoke of the mythological river which has its source in the Black Forest and passes through some of the most beautiful cities in Europe
The exhibition presents the work of Italian architect and designer Aldo Rossi (1931-1997)
the first Italian to win the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 1990
The halls of the Slovak National Museum are hosting the artist’s projects from the 1980s and 1990s: two very prolific decades that definitively marked his international consecration
The exhibits also include two spectacular large coffee makers from the Alessi Museum in Omegna
which are still in production and much appreciated by lovers of coffee and Italian design
In these very poetic drawings that have arrived in Bratislava
it is interesting to note the extent to which Rossi manages to combine beauty and practicality
These characteristics that have not been confined to his home in Milan
in other countries in Europe and of course all over Italy
What emerges from his works is a joy in experiencing and sharing public spaces
he has designed various everyday products and elegant furniture for world-renowned companies such as Alessi
The exhibition, which is being curated by Chiara Spangaro, opens on 24 June and can be visited until 5 December 2021. The event is organized by the Italian Institute of Culture in Bratislava
the Italian Embassy and the Fondazione Aldo Rossi of Milan
in collaboration with the Alessi Museum of Omegna and the Slovak National Museum
