A small glass necklace in vivid colors - green
white and red - depicting a theatrical mask: perhaps missed by a bystander two thousand years ago
it is now one of the most fascinating symbols of the latest excavation campaign in the Roman Theater of Claterna
in the municipal area of Ozzano dell’Emilia (Bologna)
An object that encapsulates the essence of daily life in the ancient city
it has rekindled attention on an extraordinary site located along the Via Emilia
dating back to theAugustan age (late 1st century B.C.-early 1st century A.D.)
has finally been returned in its entirety to the community
thanks to the excavations conducted by the Soprintendenza Archeologia
which began in 2023 with an initial funding of 450,000 euros from the Ministry of Culture
A commitment that today is strengthened with the announcement by Undersecretary for Culture Lucia Borgonzoni of a new allocation of 2 million and 200 thousand euros for the three-year period 2025-2027
600 thousand of which are earmarked precisely for the Roman Theater
“The site of Claterna never ceases to amaze us and who knows how many surprises it still has in store for us,” Borgonzoni said at the public meeting held in Ozzano dell’Emilia
The important investments made to recover and enhance its extraordinary potential highlight the confidence that the MiC places in an asset that has all the characteristics to become an internationally appealing attraction
crucial for the enhancement of the territory in terms of culture and tourism
New funds arriving between this year and 2027 for a total of 2 million and 200 thousand euros will allow us to return to the community a place rich in memory and to carry out projects designed to ensure that the public is increasingly involved: the goal is to host live shows in the theater starting as early as the summer of 2027
including through the use of removable wooden structures."
Claterna is now the largest uninhabited Roman city in northern Italy
The theater is located in the northern part of the city
Already identified between 2017 and 2019 through aerial photos and limited surveys
the monument has only been the subject of a systematic excavation campaign since 2023
The results were surprising: a 64-meter-diameter cavea emerged
with an estimated capacity of up to 2,500 spectators
although many stones of the tiers of seats and parts of the masonry have been removed since late antiquity to obtain building material
the wings of the Theater of Claterna are among the best-preserved among the theaters of the imperial age in Italy
Numerous fragments of architectural elements
marble and stone floor and wall slabs that constituted the monument’s decoration have been recovered from the theater
With the upcoming 2025-2027 funding of 600 thousand euros it will become the only theater in the regional territory that is fully visible and usable under the open sky.”
floor and wall slabs made of marble and stone
which were part of the building’s decorative apparatus
In addition to the full enjoyment of the open-air Theater
the enhancement intervention also includes a series of activities designed for public outreach and participation
the Theater is not the only treasure of Claterna
Next to it stretches an entire city yet to be explored
and remains attesting to the site’s privileged relationship with Rome and commercial significance have also been found in the area
the Ministry of Culture has invested nearly 1.4 million euros in the Claterna area and the nearby necropolis of Via Sant’Andrea
the total figure rises to more than 3.6 million euros
The plan for the three-year period 2025-2027 includes
in addition to the 600,000 euros earmarked for the Theater
an additional 400,000 for the Domus dei Mosaici and 1.2 million for the Red House
The archaeological area of Claterna today represents a landmark for the protection and enhancement of Italy’s cultural heritage
The possibility of restoring life to a place that has been lying underground for centuries is an opportunity not only for scholars
but also for citizens and visitors who will get to know the everyday life of an ancient Roman city
The new version of the Green horizontal packaging machine by GNA
an Italian company based in Ozzano dell'Emilia (Bologna) specializing in the development
production and sale of packaging machines for the food and non-food industry
features several mechanical improvements to increase the machine's sturdiness and functionality
an innovative control panel and network connection for diagnosis and remote monitoring
the Green machine proves to be a state-of-the-art system that guarantees excellent performance," emphasizes Valerio Nucci
"Fruit and vegetables are one of the main applications
The Green machine is adept at horizontal pad wrapping with flexible plastic and paper+net (including fabric) films."
and it also performs well in the bakery and non-food sectors
we are currently selling it for seasonal fruit in baskets such as peaches
The new version of Green is already available
and a number of units have already been delivered."
"This is a significant step forward in terms of flexibility
thanks mainly to major mechanical changes," says Massimiliano Nucci
our new Green machine features a redesigned pause unit
What this means in practice is that we have replaced the pause assembly with a more structurally rigid one with horizontal translation
and added a tachometer with mechanical locking
which allows the pause position to be displayed accurately
the introduction of separate supports for the top sealer improves the stability and precision of the sealing process
the load-bearing structure has been improved in strength and stability by shifting the position of the front feet
Sockets for forklift forks have also been introduced to facilitate movement."
At the heart of the updated version of the Green machine is a revolutionary element
"This innovation represents a real technological leap forward
opening the door to a series of functions dedicated to the consultation of production data
the panel becomes the point of contact for the operator
can access a universe of information that is crucial for managing and optimizing production processes," explains Nucci
making it easier to maintain and operate the machine
Operators can quickly access all the information they need
improving operational efficiency and reducing time spent searching for documents
Internet connectivity for remote monitoring and assistanceOne of the most significant new features is the ability to connect to a network
enabling real-time diagnostics and remote service
This means that operators can receive immediate support and resolve any problems immediately
minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity
Another key feature is the connection to the company's MES (Manufacturing Execution System)
"The planned integration enables continuous and in-depth monitoring of the manufacturing processes
This will significantly improve quality management and allow us to optimize the use of resources," concludes Nucci

Although not directly involved in the floods
the ISPRA headquarters in Ozzano dell'Emilia was also affected by the flood events of the last few days
In particular due to water infiltration from the roof
which constitute an important heritage in the history of Italian wildlife management
will have to be subjected to damage analysis by specialists in the sector

Thanks to the timely intervention of some employees
avoiding the degradation of the mammals and birds stored in them
The wet meadows of the ISPRA fund have very well absorbed the rain that has fallen in recent days; some infrastructure such as the roof of the headquarters and the pipes outside the building unfortunately could not withstand the impact
Actions are being taken to free the pipes and make the systems safe
several employees of the Institute have had serious problems in their municipalities of residence due to flooding and landslides
some have had to leave their homes and others
find it difficult to move from home to work
being the traffic still interrupted on many roads
Thanks to the colleagues of the ISPRA headquarters in Ozzano dell'Emilia for having worked in these days in difficult conditions to restore the various critical issues generated by the flood in the hope that the emergency will soon be overcome
ISPRA is committed to constantly providing citizens with information on the progress of the emergency in Emilia and Romagna

Updated on 24 June 2024 From Bologna Welcome
the Tour de France is set to start for the first time in its history from Italy
Le Grand Depart is due to start in Florence on Saturday 29 June 2024 with the first stage Florence-Rimini
before departing on the third day from Piacenza towards Turin and finally leaving the Bel Paese on the fourth day with departure from Pinerolo and arrival in France
It has now become common practice for the big starts of the best-known cycling stage races to start in a destination other than their home country (this applies to the Giro d'Italia too).
This is largely motivated by economic and marketing reasons: with its 1.14 billion contacts in 190 countries
the return in visibility for the involved countries is overwhelming
The world's leading cycling race running right next door is a unique showcase opportunity in terms of tourism promotion
an Italian won the Grande Boucle (the Tour's nickname) for the first time: it was Ottavio Bottecchia
a bricklayer from Friuli and champion of that legendary and heroic cycling
the yellow caravan of the Tour moved to Italy
taking in the home towns of the greatest cyclists our country has ever produced
Florence and Tuscany for Bartali and Nencini
Emilia-Romagna and Cesenatico for their deeply-rooted cycling tradition and for Pantani (the last cyclist ever to win the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France in the same year) and finally Piedmont for Coppi
Emilia-Romagna will be the undisputed protagonist of this Grand Depart
being touched on in all three of the initial stages: arrival in Rimini (from Florence)
followed by Cesenatico-Bologna (via Ravenna
The Tour de France will be on its way through Bologna on Sunday 30 June 2024
Here is the race schedule in Bologna's province (from letour.fr)
The route of the second stage is expected to reach Bologna with the finishing line on Via Irnerio
No fewer than three stages are planned here due to the final circuit that will be covered
If you want to see the winner with arms raised or enjoy the ensuing final sprint
this is the right place to seize the moment
A big screen will also be installed in the finish area in Piazza 8 Agosto to allow the spectators to follow the race
as will the podium for the prize-giving ceremony
Other highlights of this day's stage will certainly include some hilly slopes: whether at Imola or at Riolo Terme on the iconic Gallisterna climb (already the scene of great cycling feats with the World Championships won by Frenchman Alaphilippe in 2020)
there will be plenty of suggestive crossing points
albeit not decisive for the race given their distance from the finish line
some beautiful vantage points are the short climb between Botteghino di Zocca and Pianoro (Via Donini)
where some brave riders could try to gain the upper hand on the group
or in the involved stretches of the Viali (boulevards) to watch the race and have a wide view.
Another important stage is the ascent to San Luca
known in cycling as the finish of the Giro dell'Emilia
the most enthusiastic fans will be thronging
as this could be the decisive point of the route for the stage victory due to its gradients
Check the traffic, street closures, bus diversions, taxi and parking information on the official bolognatourdefrance.it website
Disruptions in the city centre can be expected as early as the evening of Saturday 29 June

Getting to know the origins of a territory – as the one of the Emilia-Romagna region – inevitably makes you go on a journey through time and takes you back thousands of years
If you wander through the Apennines of our region
you may discover remains of ancient Celt or Etruscan settlements
Three different places that tell ancient and fascinating stories – capable of conveying a deep feeling of discovery everyone of us longs for
as well as of arousing a pinch of curiosity that feeds our imagination
Between the 6th and the 4th century BC, the territory of Marzabotto hosted one of the most important city-states of Etruria, the city of Kainua
I know what you are thinking: Etruscans in the Emilia-Romagna region
this cultural facies of Tuscan origin also reached the Po valley around the 7th – 6th century BC
the Etruscan people founded twelve main cities (including Verucchio and Spina) linked with the motherland by commercial and political relationships
The only one of them that is still visible
you can admire what remains of the town and its districts
as the recently discovered ones of Tinia (the highest Etruscan god
equivalent to the Greek Zeus) and Uni – the divine couple at the head of the Etruscan mythology
with religious buildings and propitiatory altars
surmounted in some cases by peculiar signs in the shape of an egg
The itinerary ends with the prestigious “Pompeo Aria” museum
which sheds light on the history and the happenings of the site
The archaeological park of Monte Bibele
tells a story that is very different from the one of the city-like Marzabotto
Visiting this area means living a peculiar experience
a combination of the natural and the archaeological dimensions
The visit starts with a walk in the typical woods of the Apennines
These woods have always been chosen by ancient peoples as a sacred area to seek contact with gods
it is possible to admire traces of prehistorical settlements – dating back from the Copper Age to the Iron Age – but also to observe the passage of the Etruscans and the one of the Celts starting from 380 BC
The archaeological remains are located in an area that includes Monte Bibele
Monte Tamburino and Pianella di Monte Savino
The first one is home to archaeological evidences from the prehistoric era
Worth mentioning is a votive shrine – once probably a natural pool – where 195 bronze statuettes were found
is located on the slopes of Monte Tamburino
Here is also a necropolis with many tombs dating back to the time of the Etruscan settlement
there is the area of Pianella di Monte Savino
seat of the Etruscan-Celt village and its necropolis
The itinerary ends with the “Luigi Fantini” Archaeological Museum in Monterenzio
displaying evidences coming from the excavations of the Etruscan-Celt settlement of Monte Bibele and its necropolis (beginning of the 4th and the 2nd century BC)
The museum hosts one of Italy’s most important collections of Celt materials
You can reach the archaeological park both on foot and by bike by taking path no
805 until the service centre of Monte Bibele
We are now in the Municipality of Ozzano dell’Emilia, at the border between the great Po Valley and the Parco dei Gessi Bolognesi e Calanchi dell’Abbadessa
Here, just outside Bologna and along the road axis of the ancient Via Emilia, is a 1500-year-old completely preserved city sleeping under the fields. Its name is Claterna
transformed by the Romans into a municipality
It is one of the few centres of the region that wasn’t continuously inhabited – that ensured a better preservation of its structures
Unfortunately, it is not possible to visit the site, but you can get to know it by visiting Claterna Museum in Ozzano
Worth mentioning is a breath-taking hike overlooking the stunning Calanchi dell’Abbadessa from the small Church of Sant’Andrea
Take the paths 801A and 801B until the dirt Via del Pilastrino
from which you can enjoy a charming view from Monte Bibele to Corno alle Scale

The Wrap Box 600 machine by GNA is for the packaging and protection of small or large crates containing seasonal fruits like apricots
and grapes - products destined to both the local and foreign markets
Wrap Box 600 was designed for hot-gluing micro or macro-pierced films
"Companies are constantly called on to innovate
finding new solutions or improving existing ones
We thus need to tackle the challenges that the market poses every day."
The machine processes up to 30 crates per minute.
The reel of material is housed on the top part of the machine and unwinds in the same direction as the tray
"This means it can be centered with both films
nets+films or cotton or linen and paper nets."
The upper edges must be linear and compatible with the type of packaging to be obtained
The control panel is managed by a PLC and displays all the functions
and formats that can be planned depending on the tray size (20x30
The format change is managed automatically by the PLC
and position of the label are entered in the format as well as the length of the film without the need for manual adjustments."
"There is a lot of interest for our machine from France
especially when it comes to the packaging of cherry tomatoes in cotton or linen and paper nets
feedback is good for applications with citrus fruit
our objective is also entering the Spanish market."

Freshly cut lettuce and baby leaf are products that are highly suitable for processing
and now even more so with GNA's new weighing
"Our Complete Line is an all-in-one solution to pack leafy vegetables accurately while maintaining all product properties
even the most delicate products can be processed in an accurate and gentle manner," according to the company's press release
adaptable to the customer's needs and can be supplemented with specific accessories and devices
the same line can be adapted to be used with a vertical packaging machine
"The key aspect that ensures that the machine handles the product as gently as possible is the reduced drop distance from the multi-head weigher to the filling carousel or vertical flow wrapper
the adequate protection provided in different parts of the machine where the product goes through
and the installation of funnels to reduce the drop distance and increase speed," is how GNA describes its machine.
The structure consists entirely of stainless steel and anodised aluminium and is designed to prevent the product from sticking to the machine
All electrical parts are protected and have water-repellent coatings and seals
GNA exported its machines to several countries
