The weather outside was frightful with snow, sleet and freezing rain, but it didn’t deter the large crowd of faithful who gathered in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Parma on Feb
friends and representatives from other parishes where Father Andrew Hoover had ministered
Bishop Edward Malesic installed Father Hoover
“I hope that’s OK with you,” he asked the congregation
which responded with applause as Father Hoover beamed
the bishop had the new pastor preach during the installation liturgy
“I like to know what I’m giving you,” he quipped
Father Hoover said he spent some time trying to remember what was significant about Feb
8 when he recalled it was the birthday of one of his grandparents
He now has a second reason to remember the date
Father Hoover said he is filled with gratitude for the opportunity to serve as St
Anthony’s pastor and to fulfill “the hopes and dreams of what we can do together as a parish.”
the new pastor said he “has no business doing this
My family reminds me of who I am and where I’ve been.” As he scanned the nearly full church
he spotted people representing various times in his life
“You’ve loved me into being where I am,” Father Hoover told the congregation
The concelebrants included priests who have touched his life throughout the years
North Ridgeville pastor; Father Joe Koopman
Anthony Parish and a seminary professor who taught Father Hoover prior to his ordination in 2016; and friends from the seminary and the presbyterate
there is something important about Jesus’ death and Resurrection
no matter where we are in our call to conversion lay people
etc.,” Father Hoover told the faithful
“No matter where we are on our journey
there will be a time when we can minister as God wants us to.” He said God has great power over our lives and through prayer and with him
The Knights of Columbus from several parishes also participated in the Mass
forming an honor guard as the clergy processed in and out of the church
Members of the parish staff, finance and parish councils were introduced to the new pastor, who pledged to seek their counsel and advice. The parish also includes St. Anthony of Padua School
Bishop Malesic and Father Hoover greeted the faithful in the church lobby before moving to the parish hall for a reception

How To Surf Till You're 100, Brainwork: Mickey Munoz
Editor's note: You wake up early knowing the surf is pumping
Anxiety and stress work through your system
Many surfers will find this pre-surf scenario all too familiar
when Maverick's star Luca Padua shared with us his journal entry on his morning routine
Before the biggest surf day of our lives at Maverick’s on December 23
It consisted of 20 minutes of breathwork and 20 minutes of tossing the football
Having a stillness in the morning gives you the opportunity to notice what’s going on internally
Flip the switch and let that inner animal run
But be mindful — that animal changes day to day
Sometimes I have to ask myself: Are you going to be a seagull or an eagle today
Some days you’re just squawking and scrambling
That’s one of the most important things to remember
Sometimes I’m scrambling down to the harbor after daybreak
forcing breathwork in while riding out on the ski
I complete a handful of non-negotiables that set the tone for the day
It doesn’t vary much from my normal morning routine
although the intensity is certainly dialed up a few notches
the first mission is to calm my head and heart
I often circle back to Ephesians Chapter 6 and start my day by putting on the armor of God
Up next is a big glass of water while getting the coffee brewing
Non-negotiable: Prime the respiratory system
I’ll do a 10-20 minute exploratory breathwork session
Tie it all together with a few submaximal holds
set my intention for the day and bring it back down to baseline with extended
The third and final non-negotiable is the most important
This usually looks like a Maverick’s-sized squeeze from Mom and a punchy one-liner of wisdom from Dad
Any leftover nerves are eradicated by that signature Wendy Padua hug
firing up the sauna and getting a good bake in before breathing or light movement
Starting the day hot on a cold Northern California morning is a win
I take advantage of the 15-minute sand timer by imagining new lines to draw (on waves) and accepting the consequences that may accompany them
Where is the most terrifying and beautiful place one could go on this wave
“That’ll put lead in your pencil.” He’s not wrong
the gas tank is full and it’s time to saddle up and hit the water
Moral of the story: Sometimes it’s beautiful

It has been said that a pilgrimage is more about the journey than the destination
that what one experiences along the way proves to be just as
my wife Cecelia and I joined with a group of deacons and wives from across the country on such a pilgrimage
Starting in northern Italy in the small town of Padua and concluding in the Eternal City of Rome and the Jubilee Year celebration of the diaconate
our experiences ranged from the sublime (praying at the tomb of St
martyr and patron saint of deacons) to the ridiculous (encountering a friend and former co-worker from 40 years ago
in a vesting hall of thousands of other deacons!)
we witnessed the majesty of Venice and celebrated Mass in St
within feet of the evangelist’s resting place; Bologna
the historic center of medieval learning; the quiet wonder that is Assisi
where the peaceful presence of the great Francesco fills the air and Blessed Carlo Acutis lays in saintly repose; Cascia
whose glass-encased body is displayed for the faithful; and finally
we traveled to the four major basilicas of the city
prayerfully passing through the Holy Door of each
blessed with the indulgence of the Jubilee Year of Hope: the powerfully awesome Basilica of St
the seat of the chair of the bishop of Rome; St
where Pope Francis comes to pray before and after he travels and where he has indicated he wishes to be buried
the mind blurs with the many sites of piety and beauty that we were privileged to witness
Added to all that was scheduled for us to see and be a part of on our travels was the tense atmosphere created by the illness of Pope Francis
leaving us with the heavy cloud of sadness that we might be witness to a papal funeral
you could read the sorrow and concern on the faces and in the words of people in the marketplaces
we heard the rosary being prayed in a multitude of languages for our Holy Father
the first questions were continually the same: “Any news?” “How is he today?”
The disappointment of not having the pope celebrate Mass with the deacons and wives began to pale as news of Francis’ worsening health spread
we were comforted by the knowledge that our prayers at that liturgy were collectively directed toward Gemelli hospital in Rome
having returned from this blessed pilgrimage
possibly pick out one experience that rises above everything else
Processing in with 3,000 deacons from around the world
surrounded by beautiful music and wondrous architecture
asking myself if this could possibly be real
I look at the pictures now and ask — “Was I really there?”
It happened in Padua: Assisting at the altar of the Church of the Eremitani
I proclaimed the Gospel and preached a message of overwhelming joy
Anthony of Padua Church in Kailua has been my spiritual home since I was 5 years old
I have had the privilege to serve its people as their deacon
I tried to express my amazement at how it could possibly be that God had brought me to that place and time

Team Name: Padua Franciscan BruinsHead Coach: Ryan McSweeneyDivision: III2024 Record: 19-10-12024 Tourney Finish: State Semifinals loss to BadinReturning Starters/Pitchers: 5/6
Coach Outlook: "I believe we have a great group of players returning from the 2024 team
This team has been a very motivated this offseason
Any time you finish the previous season the where we did
it raises the expectation of the group but also has brought a different sense of urgency
You can see it in the work in this team puts in weight room and offseason work
That being said his is a completely different season with different challenges and a lot of work to do ahead
There are still some questions we need to answer in the lineup to fill positions we lost to graduation
but when you have 5 of your 9 starters returning
along with 6 pitchers that accounted for majority of the innings last season
there is definitely an excitement about what the season can hold with that."

To develop high-speed rail between Milan and Venice in Italy’s industrial north presented a major challenge: most of the rail line follows the A4 highway
one of the country’s busiest toll roads
Arup was appointed as joint venture leader to set up the Project Management Office (PMO) for the Brescia to Padova sub-section of the toll road
road safety and asset integrity weren’t affected by the high-speed rail construction.
With 11 different municipalities involved in the 30km stretch of highway-rail overlap
as well as 110 different infrastructure elements
communication with stakeholders including permits
highway management and the careful balancing of civil infrastructure works was the priority
Arup streamlined data management and built a culture of transparency amongst the many stakeholders through our PMO which extended beyond just this project
A Project Management Office is becoming an increasingly common feature when it comes to managing complex
Arup’s team has built a true in-depth partnership with the client
our work alongside the client has helped nurture a culture of excellence aligned with international best practice
supporting effective project management and quality delivery.
Complex projects require a streamlined approach to data management
essential to track developments and keep a range of stakeholders updated
Building on previous appointments to support Abertis and Autostrada Brescia Verona Vicenza Padova on their digital transformation
our team has created a common data environment (CDE) as a central repository to manage all the data flows and deliverables
establishing a single source of truth for data
A range of dashboards allow the team to manage and visualise data
and to present it to the different stakeholders involved
providing visibility and accessibility as the project progresses.
We’ve also helped build internal capability
providing training on best practice to harness the dashboards and the data.
due to the complexity of the relationships
the number of teams and organizations involved
the variety of processes and the amount of information and transactions that cannot be lost
With Arup the pleasant feeling of control that is what the client is looking for.
Communications between 11 municipalities and numerous other stakeholders

Ohio – Padua running back Roderick Love is no stranger to big playoff performances
the elusive senior added another one to his resume in leading the No
Region 10 opening round of the OHSAA playoffs
15 Norwalk – in the regional quarterfinals next Friday in Medina
showcased his versatility in accounting for 319 total yards and three touchdowns on the night
He rushed for a game-high 203 yards and a score on 27 carries
and completed two passes for another 20 yards
it’s 11 of 11,” said Padua coach Kevin Kubit
“He’s one of the best backs in the area and he showed it tonight.”
Love scored on receptions of 21 and 75 yards and added a 17-yard TD run
His 75-yard reception gave the Bruins a 10-point lead early in the fourth
“I give all the credit to my coaches and teammates
The line sets me up with the blocks and the same with the receivers,” said Love
who also holds the school’s single-game rushing record he set in the postseason two years ago
“My coaches have the faith in me to perform.”
The Bruins opened the scoring with a 38-yard field goal by junior Caleb Zolkowski
Following a missed field goal by the Middies
the Bruins took all of five plays to travel 80 yards for a 10-0 lead
Love capped the drive by hauling in a screen pass and running 21 yards untouched for the score
Love totaled 104 yards on 12 touches in the first half
The Middies responded with a methodical 13-play
69-yard drive to cut the deficit to three with seconds to go in the half
Junior Marcus McMahon scored on a 2-yard run
He led the Middies with a team-high 44 yards and two scores on six carries
After a Middies three-and-out to start the second half
the Bruins turned to Love and the running game
the shifty senior found paydirt on a 17-yard run
He accounted for 67 of the 75 yards on the drive
The Middies closed to within three on a 2-yard run by McMahon with two minutes left in the third quarter
Senior quarterback Nick Barker hit the 5-foot-9 senior on a screen pass
and he outraced everyone on his way to a 75-yard score
and my coach called my number and I answered,” said Love
We knew what we had to do to get this one tonight
We put it together and had a good second half.”
Following a turnover-on-downs on the ensuing Middies possession
the Bruins closed things out on an 8-yard pass from Barker to Riley Cervenka
Barker finished with a game-high 161 yards and three touchdowns on 10 of 15 passing
They put the countless hours in and the game plan worked tonight,” said Kubit
“We’re going to start tomorrow morning with films

Ohio – When an athlete is attempting to do something that puts them in rarified air
it would stand to reason that the stress would be at its highest level
That’s not the case for Padua gymnast Tessa Brousek
When the Ohio High School Athletic Association holds the gymnastics individual state championship meet at Hilliard Bradley High School on Sunday
Brousek will be looking to become just the fourth gymnast to win three consecutive all-around state titles since 1973
when gymnastics became an OHSAA-sponsored sport
Instead of being stressed out about trying to join that company
the two-time cleveland.com gymnast of the year
has tried to enjoy her final high school season and was all smiles when talking about her career before practice at Gymnastics World in Broadview Heights earlier this month
“I think this season’s been very fun,” Brousek said
“This is one of the first seasons where I’ve really tried to be stress-free and just kind of take in every moment
I think it’s just been one of the most like fun seasons with my friends.”
she came into the year with high expectations after winning the all-around state championship as a sophomore with a score of 38.5 points
Brousek finished in the top three in all four events
second in floor exercise tied for second in vault and third in balance beam
She met those expectations by totaling 38.450 points and won individual honors in bars and finished third in the vault
and she repeated as the individual all-around champion
That score was the third-highest all-time in OHSAA since the scoring change after the 1989 season
she felt the anxiety of having expectations
But she was able to harness that anxiety and enjoy herself
knowing she didn’t have many meets left in her high school career
I have a lot of expectations for myself,” Brousek said
“But I just tried to go in there and enjoy it
when I perform my best is when I kind of let all the worry and everything else go.”
The expectation of winning and then accomplishing that made her second state championship her favorite of the two
“The first one was very unexpected,” Brousek said
“I didn’t go into it with the intention of trying to go for a state title
I was going in trying to do something for our team
One factor that helps push the two-time state champion is where she practices and who is there with her every day
None other than Brecksville-Broadview Heights
which has won 21 consecutive state championships in the team competition
Watching the Bees practice has helped motivate Brousek to not only get better individually
“I think that Brecksville’s work ethic is always 100% and all of our coaches work together to make sure we’re all putting the effort in,” Brousek said
I think seeing them pushes us because we want to strive
When I see so many girls trying to do something for themselves
So I think all the girls are just so motivating
“(Seeing Tessa) definitely helps me to work harder,” said Brecksville senior Gianna Ravagnani
who has won the individual state title in floor (2022) and Vault (2023)
Brecksville coach Maria Schneider has seen the interaction between her team and the Padua team and has seen how they push each other to get better while also being supportive of one another
and they get along so well,” Schneider said
“The Padua team and the Brecksville girls practice every day together
You almost wish you could be one team at times
Farina remains the only gymnast to win four in a row
But going for three straight crowns won’t change the way the 5-foot-5 gymnast approaches the state meet when she walks into the gym at Hilliard Bradley
“I think I’m just gonna walk in and be myself and do what I know how,” Brousek said
I think that when I just get in my zone and I listen to my music
that’s where my performance happens the way I like it to.”
Brousek will walk off the gymnastics floor not only for good as a high school competitor
but quite possibly as a competitor altogether as she is not planning to compete in gymnastics in college
She is going to attend Miami University and focus on her schoolwork
“I am just going to go to school and focus a lot on academics,” Brousek said
but it’s been such like a self-sacrifice the last few years that I just want to go out having fun.”
The door is open for her to return eventually to gymnastics but for now
“If I want to come back to it eventually I can,” Brousek said
“I just look back on everything I’ve done in gymnastics
and I’m proud of it and I don’t think that moving forward
I am going to spend time focusing on friends and doing different activities
she has one more big gymnastics competition
And while Brousek doesn’t allow the outside world to see the pressure
It just isn’t from anyone other than the gymnast herself
but I don’t think it’s pushed on me from anyone else,” Brousek said
I set a lot of high expectations for myself
so I just want to be able to fulfill those and end the season really happy.”

Ohio – It was a running back battle for the ages on Friday night
as seniors Roderick Love and Chris Maloney both had masterful performances in a hard-fought playoff matchup at North Royalton’s Serpentini Stadium
7 Padua Bruins that edged out Maloney’s No
3 Benedictine Bengals 42-28 in the Division III
Benedictine ends with a respectable 10-3 record
a huge step up from a four-win 2023 season and a winless 2022
Padua will advance to the Region 10 final to play No
Love carried the ball 31 times for 254 yards and four touchdowns
while Maloney carried the ball 21 times for 252 yards and three touchdowns on the ground
while adding a 20-yard touchdown reception
finding the gap and hitting it quick for large gains
using his blocks to his advantage and sidestepping defenders for extra yardage
“Rod Love is one of the best running backs in the area,” Padua head coach Kevin Kubit said after the game
But the best attribute of Rod is how humble he is
He trusts his six O-linemen in front of him
we put in work throughout the whole week to design all these plays,” Love said
and they know we have the chemistry for it.”
Much of Maloney’s success came when he was able to get the ball in open space
and he was easily the fastest player on the field
When most backs would get tackled behind the line
and once he got going it was near impossible to stop him
“Chris Maloney played really good,” Love said
This is the first time I’ve ever played against him
The Bruins got off to a red-hot start right out of the gates
Padua began on defense and senior Conner Williams picked off Benedictine quarterback Matthew Furst
which led to a shifty 16-yard touchdown run by Love
The Bengals bounced back on a drive dominated by Maloney
who accounted for all but two of Benedictine’s yards on the drive
He punched it in on an outside run for a 13-yard touchdown
Padua then took full advantage of a costly 15-yard penalty on Benedictine
which gave the Bruins a first down on a punt attempt
The Bruins scored on a beautiful deep dime from quarterback Nick Barker to Riley Cervenka for a 41-yard touchdown
Padua scored again in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Love
Maloney struck back with a 40-yard touchdown sprint of his own
Maloney found the end zone on the Bengals’ next drive
speeding past the entire Padua defense for a 51-yard score
Barker found a wide-open Cervenka deep downfield for his second touchdown of the night on a 52-yard strike with 4:13 left in the half
Maloney finished the half with 179 yards and three touchdowns
but Padua went into halftime leading 28-21
The third quarter featured no scoring and only three drives
Love punched it in for a 5-yard score for his third touchdown of the game
they faced a crucial fourth-and-9 just inside the Bruins 20-yard line
Furst was able to find Maloney on a wheel route for a 20-yard score
pulling the Bengals within a score of Padua once more
It was Maloney’s fourth touchdown of the game
He took a handoff left and used his blazing speed to get the edge and run 60 yards for the score
putting the Bruins up 42-28 with 6:10 to play
So I knew I had them and I broke for the run,” Love said
driving all the way down within the 5-yard line
after a mishandled handoff from Furst to Maloney resulted in a fumble
said he thinks the team will be ready to play against a Toledo Central Catholic team that won the state championship last year
“Our motto has been survive and advance,” Kubit said
so that’s what we’re going to try to do next week.”

Ohio – Padua senior quarterback Nick Barker has taken a back seat to teammate Roderick Love all season
Barker delivered the game-winning touchdown pass with 22 seconds left to lead the No
7 seed Bruins to a thrilling 39-34 win over No
Region 10 quarterfinals of the OHSAA playoffs
3 Benedictine (10-2) – a 28-6 winner over No
6 Defiance – in the regional semifinals next Friday at a site to be determined
Trailing by one with 30 seconds to go and facing a second-and-15
Barker scrambled from the pocket and hit fellow senior Christian Ruggiero in the middle of the field for the 32-yard deciding score
It’s a result of great leadership from everyone on this team.”
who totaled just three TD passes all season
completing 14 of 17 passes for a game-high 214 yards and four touchdowns
His third TD – a 15-yarder to junior Brady Devore – put the Bruins up five
“Nick has had a lot of adversity this entire season
It has been up and down,” said Padua coach Kevin Kubit
“To see him make the right read on that last TD pass to Christian was unbelievable
In a game that featured over 800 yards of offense and six lead changes
it was Barker and the Bruins – who totaled 454 yards – that orchestrated a 9-play
“The way our 2023 season ended on the goal-line was tough
And to see these players play for 48 minutes tonight and finish the game
and we’re loyal things like this are going to happen.”
Much like how the playoff game started two years ago between these teams
scored on the first play from scrimmage on a 53-yard run
with junior running back Ryan Wilhelm punching it in from 2 yards out
The Bruins turned to Barker to regain the lead
The 5-foot-11 senior completed his first eight passes
including a 30-yard touchdown to Riley Cervenka at the end of the first quarter
who finished the first half with 52 yards on six carries
capped a 71-yard drive to give the Bucks their first lead
as the Bruins dialed up some trickery on the following drive
and tossed it back to senior lineman Brandon Homady
who ran it in for the score and a 20-14 lead
rode their ground game to open a 28-20 lead midway through the third quarter
He finished with a team-high 112 yards on 19 carries and set up the go-ahead score with a 47-yard run down to the 3 yard-line
The Bruins looked to Love to cut the deficit
He showed his versatility for a second week in a row
taking a screen pass 52 yards to the house to cut the Bucks' lead to one
Love totaled 266 yards from scrimmage – a game-high 204 rushing on 26 carries and 62 receiving on four receptions
“Me and him have great chemistry back there
Barker led an 85-yard drive and hit Devore to put the Bruins up five late in the fourth quarter
the Bucks regained the lead on a 3-yard run by Wilhelm – his third of the night
That’s when Barker ran the two-minute offense to perfection
leading his team to the game-winning score
The defense struggled a bit and I knew I had to pick them up,” said Barker
“I was looking for my guys and got the ball to them and I knew I had Rugs on that play.”
We know what we’re capable of,” said Kubit
“We’re going to come back tomorrow and get into the films
We’ll come in Monday and keep this ship sailing.”
Ignatius and Padua faced off Saturday in the Brooklyn Regional ice hockey final.Matt Lofgren

Ignatius senior captain Nolan Ignacio’s goal 15 seconds into Saturday’s Brooklyn Regional final sparked a big day by the Wildcats’ offense
Ignatius claimed a 6-2 victory over Padua to return to Columbus for the Frozen Four at Nationwide Arena
The Wildcats will have to wait until after Sunday’s regional finals are completed to see who they will be playing in the state semifinals
Ignatius head coach Patrick O’Rourke has carefully crafted the blueprint for his team’s defense of last season’s state title
But he just needed his team to execute the way they are capable
Coyne Rec Center saw O’Rourke’s plan come to fruition
Six different Wildcats scored against the Bruins
both teams prepare all week long and try to watch video to find little things
but to get a goal 15 seconds in is great,” O’Rourke said
“It helps settle everybody down a little bit.”
Ignacio’s goal sent the Wildcat faithful wild early on
but the next goal would be harder to come by as the Bruins started to wake up on defense
The Wildcats’ second goal came off the stick of their other captain
to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission
then to get that second goal I thought it was huge,” O’Rourke said
“Then the second period was just outstanding
I think it was just the first half of the period we got four goals
Over a span of eight minutes to start the second period
the Wildcats scored four goals that left little doubt who would be representing the Brooklyn Regional at state
The Wildcats led 6-0 entering the third period
The Bruins got two power play goals in the third
Ignacio said that the offense took another step forward Saturday with two games separating them from back-to-back titles
we even have our JV team who we continually call kids up from,” Ignacio said
We’ve got the deepest program in history.”
which included a Greater Ohio Hockey League title
Ignacio said as a team they just have to stick together for a shot at school history
“We’ve just got to stay together as a team,” Ignacio said
we just have to put it all together to hopefully win the state championship.”
O’Rourke has historically had good program built on senior leadership
if the Wildcats are going to win two more games
but they’ve got a couple tigers,” O’Rourke said
“They’ve got a couple guys that are driven almost unlike any guys I’ve had before
so we’ll see if they’ve got one more week left in the tank
But every year I take our chances going to Columbus to try to win two tough games.”
As the stereo system boomed upbeat music from the Wildcats’ Brooklyn Rec Center locker room
which they call home during the regular season
a much different and difficult conversation was being had by Padua head coach Perry Cohagan with his team around him
the Bruins played their best hockey in the postseason despite having just two seniors and one junior in the program
“We’ve played eight or nine freshmen regularly
this team had those bumps along the road that you get with young teams
the way they came together in the last month makes me extremely proud of just how well they’ve played together
“I’m going to mourn the seniors for a few days here
group of young men and it’s going to be a lot of fun I think.”
PERFECTION DE PADOVA Maddalena De Padova’s Mixy Spirit Lives On In The Italian Brand’s Latest Collections by Julie Klein Over the years
De Padova has collaborated with some of the design world’s most renowned talents
Many of their De Padova designs are featured here
“A sofa can’t make people emotional, but it can lead them to a nice emotion.” This quote by the late Maddalena De Padova (1928–2016) perfectly captures the philosophy behind the Italian design brand she cofounded in the 1950s with her husband
What started as a small furniture showroom on Via Montenapoleone in Milan has since grown into the brand coveted by design lovers and synonymous with elegance
De Padova began with a vision: introducing Italian audiences to the sleek, functional beauty of Scandinavian design, and later to the work of American icons such as Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson
By securing licenses to produce Herman Miller products
somewhat Nordic aesthetic to an Italian market then saturated with historical pastiche
“When we went to Scandinavia,” remembered Maddalena in a late-in-life interview
“we discovered a whole new way of living”: a pared down
“We knew we had to bring this back home.” It was a bold move
setting the stage for a transformative era in design in Italy and beyond
The armchair from De Padova's 2024 outdoor lounge collection Afternoons
Maddalena has also hosted regular design exhibitions at the brand’s legendary flagship location on Corso Venezia — an early design concept store — including one on Shaker furniture
photos of which continue to inspire design mood boards today
Calling the late Maddalena de Padova a tastemaker is an understatement; her Milan home exemplified her unmatched ability to blend styles and eras — Shaker
and Scandinavian design — into elegantly comfortable environments
Gavazzi integrated De Padova into the Boffi Group
De Padova completes the portfolio of luxury home solutions offered by Boffi and ADL
creating a comprehensive range of products and services for everything from private residences to luxury hotels
Just as Maddalena once perfected a new way of living in Italian homes
De Padova’s current generation of designers is poised to expand on her well-established language
redefining contemporary living spaces for a new global audience

is at its core about touch — how a material feels beneath the palm
has built his work around that corporeal sensibility
coupling it with an insistence on dialogue

This reversal of the usual order — indoor furniture

There is something in the relaxed silhouette that makes it feel at home anywhere

WILMINGTON — After falling behind Wilmington Charter late in the first half of their soccer game on April 8
Padua found another gear for the rest of the evening

they could not notch the go-ahead score in a 1-1 tie with the Force
most of the first half took place in the middle of the field
Charter sent several passes down the right side
but the Pandas’ defense was equal to the task
Pa.) came up with a save in the 15th minute
but that was one of the few times she had her name called in the half
Rachel Hilton sent a pass to Alexa Guarneri
and her quick shot sailed high into the short side past Semmel

and they maintained possession for much of the balance of the game

Audrey Kehner intercepted a Charter pass and sent the ball to Mallory Kehner
Her left-footed shot from about 25 yards out floated over Pohorylo and into the upper reaches of the net
and with 16 minutes remaining in regulation
Padua earned one corner kick late in the first overtime

The neighborhood rivals traded punches early
but a few field goals from Sanai Johnson helped the Raiders bounce back
John the Beloved Parish) nailed a triple to give the Pandas an 11-9 lead

Jezelle “GG” Banks began the second with a twisting layup
and she hit Naiya Murphy with a no-look pass for an assist a minute later as the Ursuline lead grew

Ohio — A deep playoff run by Padua’s football team meant a late start for all three of coach Brian Ansberry’s returning starters
including his fourth-year standout at guard in Riley Cervenka
A considerable chunk of the Bruins’ rotation is on the football team
but that means more developmental time for some of their up-and-coming talents
That includes a pair of sophomores in forward Jack Boswell and guard Antione Wooten
They played a big part in what Ansberry believes was the best offseason of any of his teams in nine years as coach
it could help Padua make a deep tournament run similar to its district final team in 2021

Ohio — While Region 9 has an all-Northeast Ohio pair of games Friday night in the OHSAA Division III football regional semifinals
Region 10 has two area teams left with the hopes of shaking up the road to Canton
Benedictine (10-2) and Padua (7-5) have tradition rich programs
looking to go deeper into the postseason than either has in the last decade
While Padua last made it to the regional finals in 2022
Benedictine has not been to that stage since 2015
while Aurora (11-1) challenges top-seeded Youngstown Ursuline (11-1) in Region 9
The winner of that game will meet Gilmour Academy (11-1) or Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (10-2)
Where: North Canton Memorial Stadium at Hoover High School
What to know: Aurora has overcome the loss of Lucas Manderbach
The Greenmen got 81 yards rushing from senior Tommy Tartabini
who also notched a team-high 12 tackles and three for losses
They are the fourth seed and advanced to face the top-seeded Fighting Irish
who are looking to get back to the regional finals
The Hilltoppers’ season ended last week at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy
Ursuline has won 11 straight games since a close loss to undefeated Walsh Jesuit
Ferrell rushed for two touchdowns and threw two more TD passes in the first quarter last week in Ursuline’s 44-8 win against Villa Angela-St
Ferrell had 1,514 yards passing with 19 TDs to two interceptions going into the VASJ game
While he had 593 yards rushing with seven TDs
three TDs) has been the leading rusher for the Irish
Senior safety Tairan Davis (Akron commit) and three-star junior receiver Devonte Taylor (561 yards
five TDs on 36 receptions) are their top prospects
What to know: Gilmour senior linebacker Aiden McNamara already has seven TDs on offense through two postseason games for the Lancers
who are vying for their first regional championship in program history
The rushing game has given a boost to Gilmour
which has been dominant all season in the passing game with senior quarterback Cooper Panteck (2,661 yards
35 TDs to two interceptions entering last week) and a plethora of receivers
including Ohio State tight end recruit Brody Lennon (630 yards
10 TDs on 30 receptions) with leading playmaker Sean Dillard (919 yards
They put together an impressive performance last week with a 40-6 victory against Maple Heights
CVCA’s 19-16 win against Chardon could be considered an upset
The Hilltoppers made it to last year’s state semifinals and had been ranked all season in the cleveland.com Top 25
yet junior linebacker and running back Joey Kopec made a difference as a receiver after Chardon slowed him in the run game
He scored on two TD passes from Charley Levak and finished with 76 yards on five receptions
Levak threw for 120 yards on 9-of-23 passing
Where: Serpentini Stadium at North Royalton High School
What to know: Defending state champion Toledo Central Catholic (11-1) could await the winner of this one
assuming the Fighting Irish advance past Lexington (7-5)
seeded third in the region with an ever-improving program under second year coach Joe Prevesk
His team won four games a year ago after a winless 2022 and are now on the cusp of the Bengals’ first regional final appearance since 2015
that brought a one-point loss to Central Catholic in double overtime
For them to return to that stage, they must get past a hot Padua team that has normally relied on senior running back Roderick Love to pace the offense, but got a career night from quarterback Nick Barker to rally at Buckeye, 39-34
Barker threw Padua’s winning touchdown pass with 22 seconds left to Christian Ruggiero
Barker finished with 214 yards and four TDs on 14-of-17 passing
Love still had 204 yards rushing and 266 yards from scrimmage with two TDs
Benedictine has been at its best with senior Chris Maloney
who rushed for 228 yards and three TDs on 20 carries in a 28-6 win against Defiance
He opened the playoffs with a school-record 386 yards and five TDs
breaking Raymond Williams’ single-game record from 2002

Ohio — Near misses in 2023 are what motivates Padua Franciscan for the 2024 football season
The Bruins just missed the OHSAA Division III playoffs last year
finishing 17th in Region 10 after holding leads in five of their six losses
It all came down to a 44-41 loss in Week 10 to Walsh Jesuit
which denied the Bruins on a goal-line stand to cost them a spot in the postseason
“We just didn’t finish the games,” coach Kevin Kubit said Monday during practice
our whole focus is on finishing every day.”
two years ago in the playoffs was when running back Roderick Love established himself by setting the school’s single-game rushing record in a regional semifinal win
Love is now on pace to potentially break the school’s career rushing marks in yardage and touchdowns
He has a seasoned offensive line in front of him
led by Ohio University commit Brandon Homady and experienced teammates including returning starting guard Jake Dusek and center Andrew Mruczkowski
Love has offers from Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan
the Bruins are led by a four-year starting linebacker in Devin Shaw-Mason and big-play makers in the secondary with Christian Ruggiero and Conner Williams
Catch up with the Bruins from Monday’s practice
as they are previewed in the video above and a quick capsule below
Camp visits will continue through August practices before the start of the high school football season on Aug
