Parma will have to postpone their celebration of Serie A safety as Gabriel Strefezza and some truly shocking finishing gave Como victory While Cesc Fabregas and co were already safe, the Ducali needed one last push to be mathematically sure of Serie A status Valentin Mihaila and Gabriel Charpentier were just some of the injury absentees See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog. as Patrick Cutrone’s weak finish was straight at Zion Suzuki while Jonathan Ikone’s acrobatic back-heel flick was over the bar from a Maxence Caqueret cross Suzuki got down quickly for a fantastic one-handed reaction save to keep out the Marc Kempf header on a corner Parma wasted a golden opportunity to take the lead moments later as Ange-Yoan Bonny managed to squirm to the by-line and flick it back off the outside of the boot only for Mateo Pellegrino to blast over from six yards The hosts came out fighting for the second half a crucial Maxi Perrone block preventing a tap-in on the Antoine Hainaut pull-back then on the resulting corner Pellegrino’s header bounced off the ground and onto the crossbar Emanuele Valeri couldn’t get enough on the ball as he came sliding in to meet a Hainaut cross at the back post while Nico Paz forced Suzuki to fingertip a very long-range scorcher over the bar Como really should’ve taken the lead on 72 minutes when Ikone sprung the offside trap and sent Suzuki to ground with a shimmy as Valeri tried to return the pass to Jacob Ondrejka rather than go for goal and the move fell apart ITALY – MAY 03: Nico Paz of Como competes for the ball with Emanuele Valeri of Parma calcio during the Serie A match between Parma and Como at Stadio Ennio Tardini on May 03 (Photo by Alessandro Sabattini/Getty Images)Moments later as Douvikas sprung the offside trap on a ball over the top and his awful first touch turned into an accidental assist for Gabriel Strefezza to sweep home from nine yards The hosts simply should’ve equalised in stoppages when first Dennis Man forced a tricky save from Jean Butez from the edge of the area then ran into the box and was ready to tap in the roll across from the left from six yards forcing another Butez save and seeing his rebound deflected over by teammate Delprato Comment * document.getElementById("comment").setAttribute( "id" "a63771266b72d5e724e75be14d436dd1" );document.getElementById("i09170fc1b").setAttribute( "id" fixtures and results for the latest from Serie A © Copyright 2025 Rocket Sports Network Ltd LEINSTER CAPTAIN CAELAN Doris has emerged as a doubt for this summer’s British and Irish Lions tour as he prepares to undergo a procedure for a shoulder injury Leinster today revealed that Doris would undergo the procedure this week on a shoulder injury and coach Jacques Nienaber says that Doris could be ruled out from anywhere between four weeks and six months but that they will know more once the procedure is carried out Doris picked up the injury in Leinster’s Champions Cup semi-final defeat to Northampton Saints and has already been ruled out of their URC clash with Zebre this weekend Doris could be ruled out of the Lions tour to Australia this summer The squad is due to be announced this Thursday “If there is not too much structural damage – it is tough to say my physio knowledge is a little bit woozy – but I would say that can be anything between 4-8 weeks,” Nienaber explained at a Leinster press conference today “If there is structural damage it can go more than that so it depends on what they find when they go in and have a look at it “Hopefully for him it is not that bad but you do the assessment and my gut feeling when I saw him come off I had never seen him come off with an injury so he is a hard man “When he came off my gut was that this doesn’t look good They will go in and scope and see what is wrong.” Rob Russell and James Ryan have returned to full training with Leinster following their return from injury while there is no update on Jordan Larmour Access to the comments facility has been disabled for this user Create an email alert based on the current article so that's an achievement that won't be missed by us but we know we've got three more games to keep building on that." When a Parma Heights finance employee opened an email in June 2023 The email from a contractor who fixed a road as part of a joint Cuyahoga County and Parma Heights project sought payment for the city’s portion of the bill—$504,576.01 The city wired the money to the account listed in the email just as the city does about every day to pay for expenses Except the email didn’t come from the contractor It came from scammers who had hacked into a city email patiently monitored the account and struck when the opportunity presented itself “I ultimately found out that they had been in the system for three to four weeks just looking for invoices,” said Parma Heights Police Chief Steven Greene who investigated the case before his promotion to the top cop in the city Greene said the city’s cyber insurance covered more than half of the loss Greene’s investigation led him to work with J.P a police department in Washington and ultimately with the FBI who on Tuesday arrested one of the suspected hackers Authorities say the Opute’s group used the same “email takeover” scam to swindle a Bedford commercial construction company out of $337,000 and a car dealership in Everett the group stole more than $1.1 million in less than a week a Nigerian citizen living in Sandy Springs was charged Wednesday in federal court in Cleveland with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud conspiracy to commit money laundering and aggravated identity theft an attorney who represented Opute at his initial appearance in Georgia Opute is a Nigerian Afrobeats artist who released several songs in the late 2000s and early 2010s District Judge Bridget Brennan in Cleveland reversed a Georgia magistrate judge’s order that would have allowed Opute to be released from custody with a GPS monitor on Friday morning Brennan ordered that Opute remain in custody and be sent to Cleveland to face arraignment “I’m shocked and very happy they were able to identify someone in the United States and make an arrest,” Greene said Opute’s group sent so-called phishing emails containing a link or attachment that allowed hackers unfettered access to the email account they just sat back and watched,” Greene said The group sifted through emails to find out what expenses the city paid out and to whom they hid the real invoice in a spam folder and sent a nearly identical email that included the wire information for the hacker’s bank accounts Greene said in prior iterations of the scam the email would contain numerous errors that would alert someone that it could be fake was a nearly identical email from the one that was initially sent they had changed a lower-case “l” to a “1.” The payment $504,000 payment was sent on June 6 No one knew the money had gone to the wrong account until nine days later when the hackers tried it again they copied an email from a contractor who built a retaining wall in the city and sought a $469,200 payment The money was initially wired to the hackers but a security officer at the city’s bank flagged it as fraud and canceled it Morgan’s security officer and eventually other law enforcement officers around the country who had been investigating similar scams Greene said he found the group created more than 150 email accounts that mirrored construction companies Investigators found that once the money was wired the hackers sent it through several other bank accounts and pass-through accounts before withdrawing the money using more than 100 pre-paid debit cards Opute also withdrew his cut of the money at ATMs in the Greater Atlanta area Opute and others used real people’s stolen identities to load the debit cards they tracked his whereabouts through the GPS device in his phone and followed him from his $699,000 home as he drove around in his gold Range Rover FBI agents called Opute before raiding his home He immediately reset one phone before leaving the house with a woman and a child Attorney Megan Miller wrote in a court filing Miller wrote that Opute admitted to living at the home and that FBI agents found clothes that matched ATM surveillance photos of a masked Opute withdrawing cash Opute sold his home for $770,000 and his Range Rover Investigators arrested Opute on April 29 during a traffic stop and found him with several cellphones in asking for a judge to sign off on keeping Opute in custody wrote that he lied several times during his initial court appearance in Georgia including about where he lived and about his status as a citizen Opute said during the hearing he became a U.S but Miller wrote he is a lawful permanent resident and was twice denied citizenship He also lied about how often he traveled internationally and his employment history Miller said Opute had access to cash and bank accounts in Nigeria and had dozens of fake identities “Opute’s use of these fake identities helped him hide his identity and distance himself from efforts to recover the stolen proceeds,” the prosecutor wrote “Opute now may similarly convert this ready access to other people’s identities and financial information not only flee from law enforcement under an assumed name but to obtain the financial means by which to do so.” Adam Ferrise covers federal courts at cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer. Eau de CologneRead more The Best Amber Acqua di Parma CologneAcqua Di Parma Buongiorno Eau de ParfumRead more To understand and properly appreciate the olfactory signature found in all Acqua di Parma fragrances, you have to go back to where the story began. The original Colonia eau de cologne set a precedent when it launched in 1916 as the ultimate fresh, clean, and “gentlemanly” scent—an accolade I (and many others) would argue remains unchallenged to this day. Timeless and sophisticated (and the epitome of Italian style, charm and grace) not only has it stood the time by seducing a faithful but demanding clientele (Cary Grant was a big fan), it has also formed the basis for many of ADP’s other crowd-pleasing creations. Opening with its unmistakable blend of golden citrus fruits, radiant lemon, Calabrian bergamot, and orange, it dries down through an aromatic heart and settles on a sweet but woody base. I’ve tested and lived with many fragrances over the years and honestly believe it’s impossible not to fall for the captivating elegance of this iconic, stealthy scent. The herbaceous notes of shiso (from the mint family) and rosemary then take the scent on a very aromatic journey that ends on a comforting musk and cedarwood base. While it may lack some of the finesse of the OG Colonia, it has a more daring and addictive personality; in my opinion, its appeal over other Colonia hybrids lies in its spicy, warming, and long-lasting trail. At the crossroads of art and innovation, Buongiorno is Acqua di Parma’s latest and most pioneering standalone fragrance, an ode to the Italian art of living and finding beauty in even the smallest moments and rituals. Crafted through a first-of-its-kind, co-distillation process, where petitgrain and basil were distilled simultaneously to create one single olfactory note, it conjures the fresh and liberating sensation of walking barefoot through grass in the morning dew. In the right corner, you have the original luminous opening of Colonia, with transparent notes of bergamot and rose, in the left corner, the rarest and most highly prized variety of agarwood, native to Laos, which differs from the classic oud for its seductive roundness. The combination, sprinkled with the warm, vibrant crackle of pink pepper, sweet raspberry, clove, earthy patchouli, and a dash of cinnamon, is electrifying—a killer evening fragrance built for seduction. Evoking the energy, sun, and colors of the Italian Mediterranean, Acqua di Parma’s Blu Mediterraneo collection instantly brings on the summer and gets you in the holiday mood. Each of the fragrances in the line pairs a signature indigenous ingredient with a region: i.e Bergamot di Calabria, Mandrino di Sicilia, or my favorite, Fico di Amalfi. Woody, but very green, it does everything a summer fragrance should in spades—it’s energetic, uplifting and intensely revitalizing. Inspired by the breathtaking landscape of one of the most scenic coastlines on the Mediterranean, fig takes the leading role, used in both the heart of the scent as a rich and syrupy fig nectar and in the base in the form of fig wood. The signature sunny top note of bergamot, an ADP given, is made even brighter with a splash of lemon, grapefruit, and citron. Music and perfume share a common power to awaken our feelings and emotions; a great scent can influence our mindset and alter our mood Acqua di Parma’s top-tier line of luxury eau de cologne ingeniously marries both worlds: fine fragrances made from precious ingredients inspired by the world’s most cherished operas inspired by the famous aria “La donna è mobile” from Verdi’s Rigoletto it's the kind of scent that will lift you out of a glum or cranky mood which give a new dimension to ADP’s tried and trusted Calabrian bergamot and lemon The base of sandalwood and cedarwood gives the fragrance persistence; the only downside is that it is very expensive but worth every penny if it helps lift your spirits We'd never dream of advising you to wear an expensive fragrance to your next important date night without properly researching to find the very best options and we want to make sure we utilize the best noses in the industry to find the ultimate scent for you he has sniffed every scent there is on the market value and where best it might be to use these fragrances Each of the six options below is hand-picked and tested by Adrian so you can purchase with confidence This story originally appeared on British GQ. over the weekend As Juventus walked off the field at the Tardini at halftime Wednesday evening not only did they suddenly find themselves down on the scoreboard but also in search of answers It had just been an opening 45 minutes in which they looked more like their old ineffective selves rather than the team that had strong first halves in the previous games under their new manager Juventus suffered their first defeat under Igor Tudor and looked a lot like the team that struggled for a large portion of the time during the time in which the man he replaced was manager Juve were incredibly ineffective in attack and had one Lloyd Kelly-centric mistake at the back clear the way for Parma — who entered Matchday 33 just a couple of points above the relegation zone — to make their goal right before the half stand after the break and claim a 1-0 victory over Tudor’s squad that is potentially a major setback in the quest to finish in the top four With pretty much everybody else around Juventus winning either this weekend or Wednesday Juve’s chance to get back into fourth place went up in smoke with a whimper rather than in a performance in which they were just completely unlucky Or maybe you would like to describe in a much more profanity-heavy kind of way I certainly said a few things of that ilk as I watched the time in the second half tick away and wonder when Juve’s players would show any sort of sense of urgency to push for their first goal of the day got three huge points to try and achieve their main objective during these final six games of the 2024-25 season with the way the other postponed fixtures went Wednesday Juventus are still in fifth place and part of a five-team logjam from Bologna in fourth to Fiorentina in eighth that is separated by all of four points Juventus didn’t deserve three points against Parma they didn’t even deserve the single point if they had somehow scored in the second half and pulled even with a Parma side that hadn’t beaten Juventus in the last decade let’s just have some fun with a few numbers from this one: This was the kind of performance that we saw from Thiago Motta’s Juventus — the kind of game where they were ineffective in the final third and have one singular mistake at the back come back to bite them in the backside That’s exactly what happened against Parma Passes meant for Juventus players were going straight to somebody in a Parma kit or just completely out of bounds The strong starts that we had seen the last couple of games just weren’t there at the Tardini Tudor had done some very good things through his first three games as Juve manager but how he had his team looking against Parma was far from that Juventus didn’t have a shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes Taking out the highest paid player in the league at the half saw some improvement but that was just because it couldn’t get much worse Their xG for a team that took almost 20 shots and had two-thirds of the possession was a paltry 0.84 They knew for the last three days that they needed to win to get back into fourth place and match what Bologna did against the league leaders and defending champions over the weekend Like we said on the podcast this week Juventus just couldn’t afford to screw up these very winnable games against teams that are in the bottom quarter of the Serie A table Pretty much fumble away three valuable points with a performance like they had against Parma I get that Parma are much improved under Cristian Chivu but what we saw Wednesday night isn’t going to get many points against any team let alone two direct rivals for a spot in the top four like we’re about to see in a couple of weeks Ohio — After one man’s intense experience to get his dog back he said they have finally been reunited thanks to a unique operation by Parma Police to catch the suspect The quest to find the man’s dog all began after the victim posted a desperate social media post on Saturday asking for the safe return of his two French bulldogs “We got a contact from someone stating that they redeemed one of the dogs The other one was taken by another vehicle,” said the dog owner who did not want to reveal his name out of fear of retaliation The victim said the good Samaritan returned one of his dogs and even gave the dog owner the vehicle’s license plate number and description of the passenger who allegedly took the other dog The dog owner said he then used this information to get Parma Police Officer Bryan Bernow involved in the investigation “He let me know that he put out a reward on Facebook for $1,000 He didn’t get anybody to bite on the $1,000 letting him know that she had the dog,” said Bernow Police said the story of how she found the dog seemed suspicious and didn’t make sense so Bernow said he started an operation to get the dog back once he said he got approval from Sergeant Matt Burkhart “He was telling me about the information he was getting from the original dog owner that someone was messaging him trying to capitalize on the reward He asked if we could set up a location and stay in the area,” said Burkhart which led to the arrest and recovery of the victim’s dog at the intersection of State Road and Torrington Avenue in Parma in less than 24 hours In body camera video News 5 received from the Parma Police Department the man in question appeared to tell officers he didn’t take the dog as he was being handcuffed You took the dogs,” said one of the responding officers and I still thank them for that from how fast and how efficient they were on it Police said this is the first operation of its kind and one that has created a lasting impact for the dog owner so it’s like you have to take any action you can on it,” said the dog owner The suspect has been charged with felony theft and made his first court appearance on Tuesday *This article contains a graphic image of one of the victims* An 88-year-old man is under investigation as the alleged driver who hit a mom and her toddler in a Marc's grocery store parking lot Friday night RELATED: 'You hit my son and left him there': 2-year-old boy, mother injured in alleged hit-skip officers responded to the parking lot of Marc's after 32-year-old Shalonte Maddox and her 2-year-old son were struck by a vehicle while she was pushing him in a cart While police said the vehicle made no attempt to stop Maddox recalled the driver stopping for a brief moment before traveling eastbound toward Ridge Road "When the car stopped and then decided to keep going He rolled from up under the car," she told me on Sunday Maddox added that several people witnessed the incident and not only ran to her aid but also tried flagging the driver who allegedly plowed through the pair to stop but you hurt my baby," Maddox previously told me Maddox said Genesis now has a banged-up arm Parma Police hadn't released any further information about the crime Parma Police confirm a search warrant was granted Monday for the vehicle While the driver has been possibly identified that individual has not been taken into custody as of Wednesday morning but Parma Police told News 5 they have an idea of who it may be "Due to the man’s family connection to a civilian employee of the Parma Police Department the investigation has been turned over to the Parma Heights Police Department to prevent a conflict of interest Parma Heights Police will take over the investigation and pursue applicable criminal charges," the Parma Police Department shared Maddox said she does not understand how law enforcement can find the suspect who severely hurt her child and not charge him at this time "The first thing on my mind is how are you What made you decide to leave out the parking lot Because anyone else would have been in jail for sure." I called Parma Police Public Information Officer Scott Traxler on Tuesday "Despite the connection this 88-year-old suspect has [The alleged crime] would still be considered a felony." Traxler said that for the sake of the investigation the department wants to keep it out of the Parma court system so "it's clean" and to avoid a conflict of interest Traxler added that by handing the case to Parma Heights Police it can bypass the courts and go directly to a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury we'll move forward on charges," Traxler told me over the phone I then asked Maddox if she felt like her case would be handled appropriately by having a different police department review the evidence "If they didn't do anything at the Parma [Police Department] because of conflict of interest how can I depend on you guys to do anything as well You could throw the conflict of interest out It's the part that he's 88 and it happened in Parma I feel like they should be handling [it] and if that's the case is whoever he's [involved with] they shouldn't have anything to do with it." Maddox initially told me on Sunday that justice for her son looked like jail time and criminal charges "I don't want to see an 88-year-old man go to jail I just want justice for my son to be served," Maddox stated "He's the one who has to grow up with a scar across his forehead and I would never let anyone think that it's OK." Genesis is already making a speedy recovery from what we could see on Tuesday Maddox said this situation ending in court is the only way she sees appropriate "At some point the world needs to know that after a certain age you should have to take another driver test to see if you mentally emotionally could do this like how they have to take eye exams Elderly people should have to do something to see if they could still be on the road," Maddox said "Do you forgive the person who did this?," I asked Maddox Maddox said doctors estimate Genesis' arm will be back to normal in about a month and he'll continue to have headaches for a while due to the impact on his head "I'd say about two months and he'll be back," Maddox said Maddox said Genesis begins occupational therapy on Friday To have him still in my arms just means everything to me." Maddox said officials have told her the driver suspected of hitting her and Genesis does have insurance but that she hasn't been provided with much more information The Parma Police Department released the following statement Wednesday evening: Editor's Note: The previous headline of the story stated that a person had not been arrested because of their familial ties to the Parma Police Department Police say that the reason no one has been arrested yet is because the investigation is still ongoing Share on FacebookShare on X (formerly Twitter)Share on PinterestShare on LinkedInParma Ohio (WOIO) - A Cleveland man was charged and his bond set Monday afternoon after he allegedly fled from a traffic stop and caused an elementary school to lockdown on Friday is charged with failure to comply and his bond was set at $100,000 in Parma Municipal Court Parma Police arrested Smith after he allegedly fled from officers during a traffic stop Friday afternoon they attempted a traffic stop on a Chevy Equinox near Brookpark Road and Chevrolet Boulevard for an equipment violation Smith then took off from officers at a high rate of speed eastbound on Brookpark Rd Assisting officers successfully deployed stop-strips flattening a rear tire of the man’s vehicle the man continued to flee until the vehicle came to a stop in the area of Brookpark Road and West 54th St he then took off southbound with a gun in hand the suspect discharged one round from the gun but did not hit anyone nearby Thoreau Park Elementary School was put on lockdown and a perimeter was set up with the assistance of neighboring police departments Smith was found in the 5600 block of Bradley Ave This case is currently under investigation No word yet on when Smith will be back in court By Avery WilliamsPublished: Apr 2025 at 2:03 PM EDTEmail This LinkShare on FacebookShare on X (formerly Twitter)Share on PinterestShare on LinkedInPARMA HEIGHTS Ohio (WOIO) - Parma Heights police say a standoff overnight ended peacefully with the suspect in custody Officers say they were called out just before midnight Sunday for an armed man walking on Stumph Road near Big Creek Parkway Officers say a standoff that lasted about two hours broke out when they found him the standoff came to an end with no one getting hurt and no shots being fired Police say the man was taken to a local hospital Update: Monday evening the Pickerington Local School District Board of Education approved the contract for Charles Smialek A copy of the contract posted on the district's website states Smialek will earn a base salary of $200,000 for each year of service under the contract The Parma City School District is preparing for a superintendent search after its current leader was selected by the Pickerington Local School District to become its next superintendent Pickerington Local School District's Board of Education is expected to vote on Smialek's contract Monday evening He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Ohio State University in 1998 he earned his master of arts in teaching degree from Kent State University in educational leadership from Kent State University the Pickerington Local School District states it is one of the largest and fastest-growing school districts in Central Ohio Its student population is a few thousand more than that of the Parma City School District president of the Parma City School District's Board of Education said Smialek's decision to leave is tough to accept probably the best superintendent I've ever worked with or for in my 45 years of education," Vaughn said So he is all about getting the students what they needed to excel and to have a good education." Vaughn credited Smialek for helping the district win the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce's Momentum Award in 2023 "The momentum award is for districts and buildings that have demonstrated outstanding improvement in achievement while also continuing to show growth." Vaughn said Smialek also oversaw the controversial implementation of a consolidation plan to save the district money which resulted in the closures of Parma Park Elementary as well as the demolition of the latter two Process for selecting the next superintendent Vaughn mentioned that he has already contacted two consulting firms as the Board of Education gears up for the superintendent search "I've formulated little scenarios and bios on each of those consulting firms to pass on to my board members," Vaughn said "And then we'll have a meeting and we'll talk about which one we want to do or if we want to try to do it ourselves But I think a consulting firm is the way to go." Vaughn said the process will also include surveying parents Volunteers will serve on an interview committee as part of the search Vaughn expressed his desire to have a new superintendent in place by summer and to avoid naming an interim leader One of the major issues facing the next superintendent is finances The Parma City School District's five-year forecast predicts an $18.4 million deficit in fiscal year 2027 Mike DeWine unveiled his biennial executive budget proposal The Ohio Legislative Service Commission has released details on what the proposed budget would mean in terms of funding for school districts The commission is a nonpartisan agency that provides the Ohio General Assembly with drafting Its analysis indicated that if the governor's proposal is passed by the Ohio Legislature the Parma City School District would see a $2.5 million cut in state funding for the 2025-2026 school year and a $1.1 million cut for the 2026-2027 school year 6.9 mill emergency operating levy on the May 2025 ballot that would generate more than $23 million It would cost taxpayers $242 for each $100,000 of the county fiscal officer’s appraised value "The need for us to pass this levy this May Ohio — A former pond and catch basin in Parma that had been deemed an "eye-sore" for many years is finally undergoing an upgrade Crews are hard at work on the Veterans Memorial Basin in Veterans Memorial Park Residents told us they outright despised how it looked and nearby homeowners say its function was failing as well Officials say they're now laser-focused on fixing flooding issues in this area and alleviating the stress of nearby homeowners who are constantly cleaning up after significant storm events Arkadij Prodan is eager for a new view on his daily morning walks through Veterans Memorial Park off of State Road in Parma "It looked like all kinds of stuff growing there and all that," Prodan said the longtime resident has strolled past the old Veterans Memorial pond and overgrown basin "That drain was always plugging up there and all that I assume they came up with a better idea now While it's currently surrounded by fencing converting the Veterans Memorial basin into an expanded dry detention basin they are removing trees to expand the space and grating the area around it They will also relocate a storm sewer that will discharge into the basin The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District announced plans to invest more than $4 million into the project It's a multi-fold effort to beautify the area for generations to come they say it's more important to decrease the nightmarish flooding and repeat property damage to nearby homeowners "People get water in the basements and things like that "Veterans Memorial Park Storm water Basin is designed to alleviate basement backups from the downstream neighborhood by holding back nearly 16 million gallons of storm water," Nicole Velez Watershed Team Leader at Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District Officials say the completed project will be aesthetically pleasing with a walking path They aim to emulate the success and end product of the Upper Ridgewood Basin which is located near the Shoppes at Parma RELATED: 'Pleasantly surprised, not an eyesore.' Maddox said she feels even more sorrow as the person who is accused of driving into her and her son is elderly I wanted to believe that it wasn't him actually driving but now that it has been confirmed that it is him driving "The the law is the law and no matter his age his age shouldn't define who he is and any connection to the Commander of the Auxiliary Unit — it's still a crime." She plans to show up to every court appearance of Balasko's as a reminder to him of who she is I need him to know he hurt my feelings," Maddox stated Her journey for justice doesn't end in the courtroom Ohio law does not currently allow for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to require additional testing of individuals based on age lawmakers like Representative Bernie Willis (R-Springfield) are looking to tweak the law so there is additional testing for elderly drivers "We kind of came to that realization after working with the Department of Public Safety on a related but separate issue that has to do with school bus safety and an incident that happened here where a person from outside the country with a questionable license had hit one of those school buses and it overturned and the child was killed," Willis explained Willis said it forced some tough conversations about how a person obtains and maintains their driver's license especially if they're in a "special category." an 88-year-old gentleman who has potentially forgotten a lot of maybe what they learned about driving in the past and maybe has gotten to the point where their physical dexterity with their hands and their feet and their motions and their reaction times and things get less," Willis said "I believe at this point we're going to come up with some legislation that will drive us to special categories that we will fall into whether they are by the country that are going to require more experience." Willis said what that may look like is this "special category" individual receiving additional time with a registered instructor and potentially more time with a licensed driver to "make sure that you're doing the right things." "We have a problem when we get to the testing portion that it is another one of those "Why do you think it's taken so long to get to this point?," I asked Willis My guess is this: Our driving environment has gotten exponentially more dangerous for lots of reasons because of distracted driving because of the things that people have begun to rely on in their cars that might degrade their actual ability to drive in bad situations," Willis explained "We're starting to see more of these things come to fruition in bad ways." As Willis brainstorms the right way to approach legislation of this type he's thinking anyone 70 and older should be re-evaluated for driving at the time of their license renewal and that those drivers should have to take additional testing no more than every four years individuals will not be able to retake the exam as quickly as current BMV standards allow we'll have some of those rules that we talked about," Willis said "We had some good ideas of things that we thought needed to be changed and we're kind of going to meet in the middle and figure out what we can do to best serve folks on the road and keep us as safe as we can." severely injured after she was hit head-on in August 2023 by a driver being chased by Parma police she is walking again and re-opened her store It was a walk to her storefront that she didn’t think would happen again But this was a brand new day for the Old Brooklyn entrepreneur “Some of those days were so dark that I didn’t want to But the neighborhood and the community just didn't give up on me,” Velazquez said Velazquez first met with News 5 Investigator Tara Morgan on her boyfriend’s front porch My happiness was stolen away from me that day,” Velazquez said back then A Parma police chase ended in a head-on at Pearl and Woburn The suspect died in the wreckage that caught fire Velazquez filed a civil lawsuit against the city of Parma accusing their officers of recklessly chasing out of their jurisdiction “I’m not mad at anyone I’m not angry at anyone I just don’t want this to happen to anyone else,” Velazquez said Velazquez was on her way to her store when she was hit “Just riding past the accident scene to get here today is a lot,” Velazquez said Her regular customers patiently waited for this moment “I picked up my friends that also come here We've been here with her probably since the beginning and we had lunch in the car waiting for her to open,” Donna Graves said it's Victoria herself just to know that she’s here with us still and her dreams are still going to go on,” Graves said Velazquez says it took months of preparation to get her store ready to re-open "Any time I had a little pain free time I would come in and mess with things,” Velazquez said She started her business eight years ago from dumpster diving to now clearance shopping “Your hygiene products and toilet paper you know secret deodorant is $8 at the store you can get it for $4 here,” their cases Parma is home to over 15,500 Polish people It’s also home to a new Spanish tapas bar called Quintaesencia Tapas & Bar just a stone's throw from Ridgewood Golf Course That’s where my college buddies hold the Annual Kishka Cup golf tournament I got a group text from my “pulpo pals” Edson Pinheiro and chef Beau Schmidt about a tapas bar that recently opened in Parma is the reason why we made the short drive up Interstate 77 to West Pleasant Valley Road The three of us were like schoolkids on free doughnut day We couldn’t wait to order both of the octopus tapas that are on the menu at this little Spanish gem We rolled up on the place just in time for happy hour so I started out with a beer from Spain called Estrella Galicia Cerveza Especial I quickly switched to the $7 Spain Punch after the bartender made a glass for my pals It was a refreshing drink made with orange juice In most places this would be called a sangria QE has an unmistakable South American flair as canchita or Peruvian corn nuts was served for us to snack on by our bartender who happened to be from Guatemala located on the corner of Ridge and West Pleasant Valley roads who was born in Venezuela and is fluent in Spanish I was game for anything as long as it included my beloved pulpo “That’s the first thing I saw that I wanted to order,” said Pinheiro about the $15 Garbanzos Madrileño which is chickpeas cooked with Spanish chorizo in a light red sauce That’s what his mother made for him as a child while  growing up in Venezuela The $20 Salpicon octopus was made ceviche-style It was the best I have had since my sister’s wedding in Lima “We should order more to take back,” said the chef from Copley as we finished the first round of tapas “I didn’t know it was going to be this good.” Co-owner and chef Katherine Nunez came out of the kitchen to greet us It wasn’t long before she and Pinheiro found out that they both came from San Cristobal Nunez brought out a $14 dish of Albondigas Con Manchego (meatballs with manchego cheese served with bread) for us to try “It’s all homemade,” said Nunez in their native tongue and Schmidt kept ranting about all the wonderful flavors “I didn’t even think about picking up a salt shaker or hot sauce,” said Schmidt It’s been a couple weeks since our trip to Parma We haven’t stopped talking about Nunez and her wonderful food Don’t be surprised abusing multiple children at his unlicensed daycare from 2018 to 2023.David Gambino Ohio - A Parma man who ran an illegal daycare out of his home was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for rape and gross sexual imposition Jeremy Bahner, 40, was once considered “the community’s most fun dad,” according to a victim’s mother. He was arrested in May 2023 and accused of illegally filming an 11-year-old girl inside his home. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Hollie Gallagher sentenced Bahner on several offenses including two counts of rape of a child under 10 two counts of gross sexual imposition and sexually violent predator specifications were possible because Bahner had access to countless children through his daycare A jury found him guilty after a trial in October Bahner’s unlicensed business also involved giving children rides to and from school in a vehicle called a “big purple wagon,” according to Parma police Detective Katie Finley he drove children around in his big purple wagon and had his two daughters hand out his big purple wagon business cards at school to recruit more children,” she said A single mother of four told Gallagher that Bahner preyed on her desire for her children to have a male role model in their lives “He did the worst things imaginable to many and sentenced those children to a life of having to learn to deal with and accept the traumas of what occurred in that house so many walked through,” the mother said Her voice choked with intermittent sobs during her statement Bahner kept his head down throughout the proceedings said it’s common for child predators to appear trustworthy and have good standings in the community They work by grooming children and coercing them into sexual contact after earning their trust and friendship The children trusted Bahner so much that one of his victims asked if she could hug him after his trial And he used that position of trust inside of families to prey on their children,” she said She criticized Bahner for never accepting responsibility for “the totality of his conduct.” She asked Gallagher to sentence him to life in prison without the possibility of parole acknowledged that Gallagher only had two options in punishing rape of a victim under 10: life in prison with parole or without it He said life without parole would be “a death penalty “They’re going to castigate this man because he hasn’t accepted responsibility,” he said He maintained it before; he maintains it now.” Asked by Gallagher if he would like to speak Bahner declined on the advice of his attorney so as to not jeopardize a planned appeal she had no discretion to sentence Bahner to anything other than life without parole for the rape offenses with sexually violent predator specifications She told Bahner he’s also classified as a sex offender for life Armstrong Williams takes on the news of the week and asks the questions you want answered. Woman seriously injured in crash on Route 259 in Parmaby WHAM — One driver was seriously injured and another had minor injuries after a crash Thursday morning on State Route 259 The Monroe County Sheriff's Office responded to Hilton Parma Corners Road just north of Peck Road around 8:40 a.m Deputies determined a southbound SUV entered the northbound lane and struck a truck that had a plow attached The SUV driver was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries while the truck driver declined further treatment who added drugs and alcohol didn't appear to be factors in the crash Ohio (WOIO) - Parma Police released a follow-up statement Friday after a video showed officers searching a 5-year-old boy in a December traffic stop According to the release from Parma Police they have thoroughly reviewed the traffic stop conducted at 9:20 p.m 26 in the area of Brook Park Road and West 33rd Street officers initiated the traffic stop for a vehicle with an expired license plate and tinted windows The license plate has been expired since September 2024 which raised concerns and outrage from the community and the boy’s family RELATED: Tough questions for Parma PD after family says police searched 5-year-old in routine traffic stop Parma Police said in the statement that during the stop a K-9 alerted for the presence of a controlled substance at the front passenger side Parma Police clarified that its K-9 is trained to only alert to narcotics including heroin Parma Police said they do not use K-9s that are imprinted on marijuana in these situations the alert from the K-9 then required all occupants to be searched Parma Police said officers did not instruct the child to raise his hands rather the child was mimicking the actions of his father an officer told the boy he did not need to raise his hands Officers searched the boy’s pockets and did not find anything and focused on ensuring the child’s welfare These controlled substances are not only illegal but can also be lethal The officer could not risk the safety of the child’s life so the brief search was necessary under the circumstances,” the release said Parma Police said the following about the decision to search the child: Our decision to conduct this search was influenced by the increasing prevalence of tragic incidents where children have been harmed or killed after accidentally coming into contact with dangerous substances there have been cases where children have overdosed on drugs that were negligently left within their reach This is a risk our officers work to prevent our review process has confirmed that the officer acted reasonably and with the child’s safety as a primary concern “The Parma Police Department’s attempt to justify the unconstitutional and deeply disturbing events of December 26th is both flawed and one-sided We represent the driver and his five-year-old child who were unlawfully subjected to an unwarranted K-9 search and an egregious violation of their Fourth Amendment rights This was a routine stop for an expired tag that inexplicably escalated into a full-blown search involving a K-9 unit The police fail to explain why a K-9 was deployed or how this routine stop led to the harassment of our client yet he and his child were subjected to baseless searches The search of a five-year-old child is particularly egregious The police claim this was for the child’s “safety,” yet the facts paint a different picture: a frightened child raising his hands and being unnecessarily searched while no evidence of danger or controlled substances was present This was not about safety—it was an abuse of power that inflicted unnecessary trauma on an innocent child We will vigorously audit and investigate every aspect of this incident to expose how and why it escalated We will hold the Parma Police Department accountable for their actions and ensure that this family receives the justice they deserve This event raises critical questions about constitutional violations and the lack of accountability in law enforcement Our office will not rest until we uncover the full truth and ensure that those responsible are held to account Be sure to check back with 19 News for updates Roma’s Eldor Shomurodov fights for the ball with Parma’s Emanuele Valeri during the Italian Serie A soccer match between Parma and Roma Italy (AP) — Relegation-threatened Parma hired Cristian Chivu as coach on Tuesday with the team 18th in the 20-team Serie A who was working as a youth coach at Inter Milan will lead the team for the first time when it hosts Bologna on Saturday Parma lost four straight games before firing Fabio Pecchia on Monday and has not won a league game in 2025
