Piombino leads NYS Notary Exam Prep on March 14 at Alfred State College
Piombino will lead a New York State Notary Public Workshop on Friday
at the Alfred State College Main Campus in Alfred
This acclaimed program provides a comprehensive review of the New York State Notary Public role
duties and responsibilities and delivers effective official state law examination preparation.
“Attendance at this seminar is a must for every prospective Notary Public to properly prepare for the serious legal authority
duties and myriad responsibilities of holding this public officer appointment,” said Alfred E
“Simply taking and passing the 40-question examination
implemented in 1950 by New York Secretary of State Thomas J
but it’s not sufficient preparation by itself to fully understand and execute all the required duties,” said Piombino
“First appointed as a New York Notary Public in 1981
I easily passed the state law examination because I was a business school student
but I really didn’t fully understand the scope and depth of my duty which inspired my further legal research,” he adds.
“This frustration with a lack of accurate
adequate resources sparked my sense of intellectual curiosity and was the catalyst of forty years of passion for dedicating myself to this niche
writing and teaching – to not only help other legal practitioners better protect themselves from legal liability
but also to protect the integrity of the civil and criminal court systems,” Piombino said
definitively leads to the insidious denigration of all courts
erodes public confidence and stymies good-faith efforts to effectively and fairly deliver justice to voters
victims and defendants,” emphasizes Piombino
The New York Secretary of State administers the proctored
written law examination through the Department of State on a regular basis throughout New York
Official examination schedules will be distributed at the briefing
Four sample law examinations and answer keys are provided to every participant as a self-study aid for review after the briefing
Piombino was the lead investigator in a landmark
documenting for the first time widespread non-compliance with myriad legal requirements throughout New York State
The special investigation report was covered by The New York Times
New York Law Journal and major news wire services throughout the US
The specialinvestigation report is also cited by state and federal courts in judicial case decisions and law review articles to this day
past state court official and former State University of New York (SUNY) college business law faculty
He is the renowned scholar on New York Notary Law and Practice and the original curriculum developer and faculty of Notary Public educational programs at scores of public and private colleges throughout New York
including Cayuga Community College.
US Citizenship is not required for any applicant
nor is a felony conviction an automatic disqualification from receiving an appointment by the New York Secretary of State
Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) union member-state employees may submit a CSEA Tuition Benefit Voucher to pay for the full cost of the training course; plus
the CSEA Certification & Licensure Examination Fee Reimbursement Benefit is also available to reimburse union member state employees for the NYS examination fee

GREEN LE MURA SPRING: Coach: Ferretti.GULF OF PIOMBINO: Presta 5, Piangerelli 5, Klatt ne, Buriani, Morganti, Tanganelli 3, Candelori 4, Poggi 4, Quaratesi 7, Nappi 1, Alfonsi 7, Bassini 4. Coach: Biancani.
Referees: Dori from Pergine Valdarno and Filipovic from Siena.
Upon returning, Presta's triple and Alfonsi's two baskets bring the guests closer, but Valentino from underneath (assisted by Maffei) and Tessaro's percussion bring the red and whites back with a reassuring margin.
After the long break, Michelotti takes care of it from three, well freed by Maffei; then Paulsson: two out of two from the free throw line. Piombino tries to come back with a free throw by Nappi, but it is once again the red and whites who extend again with Capodagli and Dianda on an assist by Paulsson. Dianda again, this time freed by Morettini; while, at the buzzer at the end of the quarter, it is Capodagli who sets the partial score at 46-29.
In the final period Capodagli starts strong again, with a triple. Then Valentino, Dianda and Michelotti increase the advantage, until reaching 70-40, thanks again to two free throws by Michelotti.
A great victory that allows the Green Le Mura Spring to access one of the races play-off, in which they will face Nicobasket at the "Palapertini" in Ponte Buggianese. In the next few days the Federation will communicate when this first match will be played. In the meantime, the red and whites are enjoying the success and will try to prepare for the challenge in the best possible way.
"I am very satisfied with the performance of the girls - commented Ferretti - who directed the game already in the first quarter. In the second they had a slight decline, but, then, they really gave very little to the opponents. Now reset and focus on the next challenge".
the company and the Ministry of Made in Italy signed a joint declaration to promote the construction of "a large green steel production plant"
The hypothesis that Metinvest is interested in acquiring Ex Ilva fades away
The Ukrainian company led by Yuriy Ryzhenkov will invest 2,5 billion euros in the Piombino steel plant
during a bilateral meeting between the Italian and Ukrainian governments
Metinvest and Mimit signed a joint declaration to promote the construction of “a large green steel production plant” in Piombino
within the framework of the Forum of an Italian-Ukrainian business dialogue organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine
where the plenary session was chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Farnesina
Antonio Tajani The Forum was attended by several representatives of the business world
financial institutions and trade associations
This is an event designed in view of the conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine
which will be held in Rome on 10 and 11 July 2025
The framework of interventions that the Italian government will implement to support the reconstruction of Ukraine is starting to take shape
consists of a loan of 50 billion from the extra profits of immobilized Russian assets
with about ten days to go before the deadline to submit a binding offer for Ex llva
Metinvest does not seem to leave many doubts: investments are diverted to the Piombino plant
The roadmap includes the signing of a program agreement by early 2025
Metinvest suggests that Italy consider the project in the province of Livorno to be of “national strategic interest”
if approved it could lead to an acceleration in the approval processes with the direct involvement of the Council of Ministers
The choice to invest resources in Piombino
could have been determined by the not rosy context in which the Ex Ilva finds itself
today for the second time in extraordinary administration
The minister Adolfo Urso reiterated on several occasions that Metinvest “always has the option” to submit an expression of interest for Adi
but would still have until November 30 to submit a binding offer
the extraordinary commissioners of Acciaierie d'Italia have welcomed representatives of some companies interested in the entire group
Baku Steel company and the Ukrainian steel giant
the names that could be considered candidates include the Canadians of Stelco – now American with the acquisition of Cleveland Cliff – and the Japanese of Nippon Steel
which would have the objective of acquiring the former Ilva in its entirety
Mimit is inclined to evaluate an offer that includes the purchase of the entire package of plants and
according to what was declared by Minister Urso
intends to avoid the splitting up of the asset
the splitting up is not a completely excluded option; also in the running for the final race are the Italian group Marcegaglia
and Sideralba which would instead look at the realities of Salerno and Racconigi
a possible involvement of Ex Ilva among the interventions aimed at the reconstruction of Ukraine is excluded
the Piombino agreement represents "an important step towards the creation of one of the most sustainable steel plants in Europe" for the CEO of Metinvest
Metinvest assures that the project is aimed at strengthening the Italian industry and Ukrainian mining facilities
The construction of one of the most advanced green steel plants in Europe will have a planned capacity of 2,7 million tons per year
The plant will use technologies based on electric arc furnaces and recycled materials
pig iron and pre-reduced iron from Ukraine
the Ukrainian company reports that Sace and the main banking institutions
have provided letters of interest for financial support
It should also be remembered that the project comes after the agreement between Jsw Steel Italy and Metinvest Adria – made official at the end of October – for the division of the areas of the industrial site of Piombino
a step that then opened the way to new investments in the area
provides for the coexistence of the two groups within the industrial area of Piombino

Domenico Acerenza and Angela Martinez Guillen won the men’s and women’s titles respectively at the first leg of the European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup in Piombino
Acerenza came through late on to overhaul French pair Sacha Velly and Marc-Antoine Olivier and take the touch in a sprint finish in 1hr 46 mins 54.1secs
Velly was second in 1:46:54.6 ahead of teammate Olivier who clocked 1:46:54.8
Caroline Jouisse: Photo courtesy: European Aquatics
Martinez Guillen executed a superb final lap
picking off her rivals and going past leading duo Ginevra Taddeuci and Maria De Valdes Alvarez before going to the head of the field to claim victory in 1:56:37.8
Italian Taddeuci touched the board in 1:56.39.4 with Caroline Jouisse claiming a third podium spot of the day for France in 1:56:40.3 and Olympic champion Ana Marcela Cunha next home in 1:56:42.3
Acerenza had been in the top three throughout the race but it was Velly though who ramped up the pace on the fifth and penultimate lap
making his move and even briefly did a little backstroke to check out what was happening around him
The 19-year-old led going into the final lap and pushed the tempo to move more than a body-length ahead of Olivier and Acerenza
His teammate pulled alongside as the pair went stroke for stroke only for Acerenza to make his move on the outside coming into the final shoot
ultimately getting his hand to the board first
Acerenza will compete in the open water at Paris 2024 alongside Italian teammate Gregorio Paltrinieri who didn’t take to the water in Piombino
Taddeuci was in the lead going into the final lap and looked powerful in the latter stages at the head of the field
Valdes Alvarez drew up alongside the Italian with the pair going stroke for stroke and even coming together
The pack was tightly bunched with Martinez Guillen timing her strike for home perfectly to make her way through and head the field into the finishing shoot for victory

People in the sleepy port of Piombino are concerned about the effects of the hurriedly installed regasification unit on its marine ecosystem
and as the place where ships leave for Sardinia
something that has set off a heated political debate in an otherwise sleepy municipality: a ship
Calling the Golar Tundra, which docked here at in March, a ship is not technically accurate. It’s actually a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU)
whose job is to take liquefied gas (LNG) transported by carriers
return it to a gaseous state and then feed it into the gas network
and Italy’s government wants to “park” it in Piombino’s port for at least three years
Along with environmental activists from across Italy
with a storage capacity of 170,000 cubic metres and the ability to regasify about 5bn cubic metres of gas every year
offers a way to bring in gas without the need for a new pipeline
The Italian government is in such a rush that it has decided to skip environmental assessment studies
“We have nothing against regasification terminals
But we don’t like that this project was done without any evaluation of its environmental impact,” says the mayor
On the streets of Piombino this sentiment is widespread. Shop windows and the balconies of houses are covered with signs condemning the regasification terminal. There have been many protests organised by grassroots group No Rigassificatore
There is now a heavy federal police presence in the port

“We don’t know if we’ll be able to continue doing our job here.”

Photograph: Jennifer Lorenzini/ReutersCritics note that the Golar Tundra uses “open circuit technology”: the LNG is stored at -160C (-320F)
then is transformed into gas through heat exchangers that use the warmer sea water
sterilised with sodium hypochlorite – a chemical used in household bleach
“We have this water enriched with dangerous chemicals that first will deposit on the seabed [because cooler water sinks] but then will start circulating because of fluid dynamics,” says Greenpeace Italy’s campaign director
who notes that the chemicals can sterilise the water and could damage local aquaculture
it claimed that “positioning of the regasification terminal in the port is compatible with the territory” and that “the concentrations of chlorine will settle on very low values without interfering with agro-fishing or other activities in port”
View image in fullscreenThe public are concerned that the process of regasification could harm the local marine ecosystem
Photograph: Jennifer Lorenzini/ReutersSnam added that the facility would contribute 8% of Italy’s gas needs at a crucial time
“We have the right to know if this work is feasible,” says Ferrari
“Otherwise there is the risk of erecting a dangerous structure in the name of the national interest.”
Del Lama says that the energy crisis is not a good reason to forgo science
“If we accept this in the name of the emergency

Italy’s oil and gas company Eni has delivered an LNG cargo of 90 million cubic meters to the Snam (Italy’s energy company) regasification terminal in Piombino
Eni said the unloading operations took place following the completion of the test phase and mark the beginning of the terminal’s commercial operation
The cargo was produced at the Sonatrach liquefaction plant in Betihoua
the partnership with Sonatrach and Algeria plays a central role in its strategy to diversify supplies and expand its gas portfolio
with investments in fast-track projects that will increase available volumes for the Italian and European markets
Eni stated that this delivery confirms the value of gas as a reliable energy source
capable of providing a reliable response to growing energy demand while supporting the energy transition
Eni targets growth in its LNG activities with contracted volumes expected to rise to over 18 million tons in 2026

Saratoga County — A man from Providence was arrested after an incident on November 4 in which
he is accused of smashing a truck window and strangling a person
Saratoga County Sheriff’s responded to a disturbance call on Southline Road in the town of Providence at 11:49 p.m
was arrested and charged with felony third-degree criminal mischief and misdemeanor criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation
Piombino is accused of smashing out the rear window of a 2016 Dodge Durango belonging to someone else and of applying pressure to the throat or neck of that person "with the intent to impede their normal breathing or blood circulation."
He was arraigned in the Edinburg Town Court and released with an appearance ticket pending further action in the matter

the Tuscan city has gravitated around the steelworks adjacent to its port
which almost single-handedly supported the livelihood of the local community
it filled the air with dark fumes day in and day out
Piombino’s steel works now brace for an unexpected comeback.
Ukraine’s largest steel producer and owner of some of Ukraine biggest steel works — including the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol
which became famous worldwide during the town’s siege the early days of the war in Ukraine — signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Italian government and local authorities on January 18 to develop a new €2.2bn steel complex in the area.
The new facility is expected to create 1700 new direct and indirect jobs
This is a far cry from the heydays of Piombino’s steel works
but still forms a much-needed shot in the arm for the local industry
as the electric furnace envisioned by Metinvest promises to deliver its jobs dividend with much less contaminating emissions than were seen in the past.
“This project will play a key role in Italy’s green transition,” Yuriy Ryzhenkov
The war in Ukraine has crippled Metinvest’s local steel works
The company reported a steel production of 2.9 million tonnes of steel in 2022
production failed to exceed 1.5 million tonnes
the facility in Piombino will help Metinvest make up for some of the lost production in Ukraine.
“Piombino is a city that has a natural vocation for steel production
People won’t oppose the project,” Eugenio Giani, president of Tuscany
local communities will remain cautious until a final decision is made
Piombino’s dismantled steel works areas already went through several failed attempts to regenerate the whole industrial complex
it was Russian Severstal that inflicted it the final blow with a failed regeneration scheme that left the whole ordeal bankrupt in 2011.
“This MoU is a real chance to regenerate the city,” Piombino’s mayor Francesco Ferrari said in a statement.
The deal will now move forward with a feasibility study
Business minister Adolfo Urso aims for all the parties to be in a position to discuss a final investment decision within four months

Not so Russian anymore. Another Snam-operated FRSU, BW Singapore, is expected to dock in the Adriatic port of Ravenna and become operational in 2024. Together, the two FRSUs are projected to convey 13% of Italy’s gas needs. That’s on top of increased supplies via gas duct from non-Russian sources
thanks to the energy security push initiated by former Prime Minister Mario Draghi and continued under his successor Giorgia Meloni
“Italy was one of the first countries to take action to secure alternative resources to Russian gas

Here’s What You Need to Know: The stand at Piombino revealed there were plenty of Italians ready to fight back against Fascism in the wake of the armistice
1943 it was revealed to the Italian public that three generals had signed an armistice five days earlier terminating hostilities between Italy and the Allied powers
two German torpedo boats and the steamer Carbet appeared before the harbor of the port town of Piombino
located off the northwestern coast of Tuscany
demanded access to the harbor on the pretext that he needed to resupply fuel and gas—but was denied by the local authorities and naval commander
Frigate Captain Amedeo Capuano. Italy was no longer allied with Nazi Germany
But the commander of the local 215th Coastal Division
intervened. He not only opened the harbor to German forces
but forbade the garrison to do anything to impede their movements.
The Germans had anticipated that Italy might end its alliance
and Albrand’s force was one of several units executing a lightning operation to seize key strategic points in Itay before they could fall under Allied occupations. Occupying Piombino was particularly vital to facilitate the evacuation of the 90th Panzergrenadier Division in Sardinia and a Sturmbrigade in Corsica
Albrand commanded one of the two 610-ton La Melpomène-class torpedo boats designated TA-9 and TA-11—formerly
the French Navy’s Bombarde and L’Iphigénie respectively. These were heavily armed with two 100-millimeter guns
rapid-firing 37-millimeter cannons and 13.2 millimeter heavy machineguns each.
TA-9 under Captain Otto Reinhardt took position on the northern end of the port
while Albrand’s TA-11 deployed to the southern end. This allowed the German boats to cover the entire harbor with their guns
four Italian Navy Baglietto-class submarine chasers (VAS 201
219 and 220) of the 5th Anti-Submarine Squadron had sought refugee in Piombino from rough weather. Now the heavily armed German warships were also moored with a direct line of fire on the smaller
over two dozen additional German ships arrived at Piombino
including a second steamer (Capitano Sauro)
around eight motorized barges called peniches
more than seven 220-ton Marinefahrprahm armored landing craft (also known as F-lighters) armed with rapid-firing anti-aircraft guns and 75-millimeter howitzers
the minesweeper R-185 and six Luftwaffe rescue boats of the 10th Air Rescue Team
Hundreds of German sailors and troops were soon ashore in the Italian city and began dispersing in teams to key points of the city
clearly preparing to seize the entire community
The locals weren’t at all happy about it. A local anti-fascist committee formed an armed militia and issued an ultimatum requiring the Germans to leave the city by 9 PM.
When civilians began protesting the German invasion
General Fortunato Perni ordered Italian tankers of the XIX battalion/31st Armored Regiment to disperse them with machine gunfire. Perni even advised the Germans not to be alarmed if they heard gunshots
as that would merely be his tanks shooting at Italian civilians
But junior officers in the ranks of the Italian Army and Navy were also angry about the voluntary surrender and were aware the Germans were preparing an attack. Artillerymen at one coastal battery arrested a German team they spotted nearby. The VAS boat crews
realizing their ships were essentially being held hostage under German guns
sabotaged their boats and fled to the hamlet of Savioli
Tensions had peaked by 9:15 PM when a flare illuminated the German ships in the harbor.
Thinking they were about to come under attack
That proved to beg a big mistake as a massive close-range firefight between former allies worthy of a Tarantino flick erupted across the harbor
policemen and anti-fascist militia strafed Kriegsmarine sailors with small arms fire
TA-II promptly blew up one of the moored and unmanned VAS sub-chaser to high heavens
causing diesel fuel to pour into the harbor and catch fire
Italian cannons and tanks began pummeling the German ships cooped up in the harbor. There were three batteries of 76-millimeter anti-aircraft guns at Montecaselli
as well as one battery of 102-millimeter guns at Semaforo. All were equipped with searchlights and defensive machineguns and together began to rain hell on the German ships below
Fire also poured in from the XIX Tank Battalion
one of just a few units equipped with brand-new 15-ton M15/42 tanks. These were improved models of Italy’s notoriously unreliable M13/41 tanks
with better engines and longer-barrel 47-millimeter guns
in addition to their five 8-millimeter machine guns in three mounts.
47-millimeter tank shells slammed in TA-11
which then drifted into the blazing gasoline fire started by her own attack on the VAS boats. The German torpedo boat caught fire and sank
spitting cannon shells back at the Italian defenders the entire time
The Italian coastal guns went picking off the German boats left and right. Seven F-Lighters were destroyed
two barges sunk and third heavily damaged and abandoned
and six Luftwaffe rescue launches/security boats were reduced to flinders.
By the time the shooting was over a few hours later
In exchange German fire killed two sailors and a civilian
and a Guardia di Finanza military police brigadier was mortally wounded by machine-gun fire from a German motorboat. All four VAS boats were lost in the blaze—fortunately without their crews on board
But fighting continued on land for several hours due to hundreds of German sailors armed with automatic weapons who had barricaded themselves in an air defense shelter.
After waiting a few hours for tanks to intervene, eleven Italian artillerymen from the Semaforo battery descended into town to eliminate the threat, as recounted in a letter by Giovanbattista Salvadore:
we stuffed our jackets full of hand grenades and went on the attack
we caught sight of a German cap behind a bush and I threw a hand grenade and ten German sailors came from there and we immediately disarmed
We went over to the shelter and began to drop the hand grenades
so that 44 hand grenades exploded simultaneously
the Germans threw out a stick with a white rag. Our commander spoke
said he would send a non-commissioned officer with two sailors to disarm them
There were several hundred Germans taken prisoner. When they saw there were only eleven of us
the gallant act of resistance by Piombino’s citizens was for naught. That morning
De Vecchi ordered that the prisoners be released even and gave them back their weapons. They soon departed on some of the few surviving German boats
the Italian coastal defense command disbanded the XIX tank battalion and surrendered Piombino to German forces
handing Nazi Germany a victory it had absolutely not earned. The local soldiers and civilians who had banded together to combat the Fascists were forced to flee in the surrounding woods
The stand at Piombino revealed there were plenty of Italians ready to fight back against Fascism in the wake of the armistice. Sadly
the Allies did not have adequate ready forces in September 1943 to fully exploit the strategic opportunities brought about by the armistice

the vessel has a storage capacity of approximately 170 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas and a continuous regasification capacity of 5 billion cubic meters per year
The Golar Tundra Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) is a vessel approximately 292,5 meters long
approximately 43,4 meters wide and approximately 55 meters high (maximum height from keel to tallest point)
arranged in the central part of the hull; the regasification plant is located forward
centralized control room and service machinery are located aft
The ship will host a crew of around 30 on board
The captain is responsible for the ship and its crew
divided into three groups: deck (about 12)
The nationality of all components on board is European
Shifts are planned to ensure 24-hour operation
the Golar Tundra vessel has a storage capacity of approximately 170 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas and a continuous regasification capacity of 5 billion cubic meters per year
to 13 percent of the national energy needs
Snam purchased the Golar Tundra regasification vessel in June 2022 from Golar Lng Limited for a consideration of 350 million dollars (about 330 million euros) to promote greater energy security and diversification of Italy's supplies
The ship left the Keppel shipyard in Singapore on 21 February 2023 for the Port of Piombino
The Golar Tundra can operate both as a LNG carrier to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) and as an FSRU
Golar Tundra will be replenished at regular intervals by LNG carriers
the LNG tanker carrying the LNG at a temperature of -160°C transfers the liquefied natural gas into the tanks of the terminal
This process takes place via unloading arms installed on the Fsru
These extend and hook up to the flanges of the LNG carrier
at which point the LNG is decanted into the tanks and stored
The regasification process is obtained by introducing the LNG into a heat exchanger in which a hotter liquid flows
whose natural temperature is sufficient to return the gas to its gaseous state
The ambient temperature methane obtained from the regasification process is then compressed and fed into a gas pipeline that starts from the Fsru and reaches the national transport network
there are 48 operational FSRUs in the world
25 of which have an LNG storage capacity of between 160 and 180 cubic metres
ten new regasification vessel projects are being studied and developed: six in Germany
nine foresee a location in highly anthropized places such as city ports or places along the coast
(Reuters) — The Italian city of Piombino has launched a legal challenge against a government-backed project for a new LNG terminal in the Tuscan port that is seen as key to helping wean Italy off Russian gas
The appeal to an administrative court includes "a precautionary request" to suspend work to set up the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU)
It added that it was confident that judges would quickly rule on the request
Italian gas grid operator Snam has already begun preliminary operations in Piombino but has not yet started construction work on the pipeline that will connect the FSRU to the gas grid
Piombino mayor Francesco Ferrari has led local protests against the project
"We are aware of the energy emergency and that new gas supply measures are in the national interest
but this cannot disregard safety guarantees for the community in Piombino," he said in the statement
Ferrari is a member of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy party
The government is pushing for the floating LNG terminal as part of plans to diversify Italy's energy supplies in the wake of Russia's war on Ukraine
The terminal needs to be operational by the end of March to help Italy replace dwindling Russian gas supplies
adding the timely completion of the project was crucial to re-fill the country's gas storages by next winter
Rome expects to get more than 8 billion cubic metres of additional LNG mainly from African nations as well as Qatar and the United States by next winter
The new volumes cannot fit into Italy's three existing LNG terminals
a second newly-acquired FRSU that Snam plans to set up in 2024 and an already planned expansion of one of the existing terminals will have to absorb the new flows
Last year Russia provided 38% of Italian total gas consumption while this year Algeria has become Rome's biggest fuel supplier
