ACT: Could you tell our audience a bit about the Pistoia Alliance’s newest initiative to assess the sustainability of different clinical trial models
we have started with this already three years ago
to dig into the issue of how can we assess the carbon footprint of clinical trials
Our aim with this three years ago was to try to assess the impact of DCT (decentralized clinical trials)
but it was so tough to be able to evaluate or propose a standard framework to be able to do that that in fact
with the partner company we have been working with called Sustainable Healthcare Coalition (SHC)
can we build a proper tool and framework to assess the carbon footprint of any type of trial
we had to collect data from both company members
the one from the Pistoia Alliance and the one from the Sustainable Healthcare Coalition
protocol start until clinical summary report finalization
and we have identified what we call an activity based model
looking at the clinical trial flow chart and looking for preparation
and among those bricks we have went to lower bricks
the same type of story for the investigator also at the site
because most of the people have never done that before
we have been able to put in place the standard framework that is now available
we are going really to come back to the early days of our question: do DCTs have a good or bad impact on the carbon footprint of clinical trials

Results from Pistoia Alliance’s Lab of the Future survey has shared important findings about the challenges life science companies face
The results from The Pistoia Alliance’s Lab of the Future survey
conducted in partnership with the Open Pharma Research
has revealed key information about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)
not-for-profit members’ organisation consisting of life science companies
publishers and academic groups endeavouring to reduce barriers to innovation in life science and healthcare R&D
will be presented at the Lab of the Future Congress in Amsterdam on October 1 and October 2
68 percent of respondents are using AI and ML in their work
having increased from 54 percent last year
AI and ML are cited as the top tech investments planned over the next two years (62 percent)
companies will reduce their focus on infrastructure investments like Cloud Platforms (37 percent)
Difficulties in using experimental data are moving towards more content-related issues
such as the inability to access data (59 percent)
unstructured data (54 percent) and lack of metadata standardisation (48 percent)
Only 35 percent said there were cultural barriers and institutional resistance to data sharing
which had reduced from 48 percent last year
Dr Becky Upton, President at The Pistoia Alliance
commented: “The good news is that cultural barriers to AI adoption are falling as organisations realise the benefits of the technology for accelerating scientific innovation
But the survey shows a sizeable number of respondents are still facing data issues
and fresh concerns are arising around privacy and security
perhaps due to the ambiguities surrounding new legislation including the EU AI Act.”
The number one barrier to AI implementation was cited as low quality and poorly curated datasets (52 percent)
The second highest barrier is data that does not adhere to Findable
privacy and security concerns about data were 38 percent
Pistoia Alliance Consultant and a Director of Open Pharma Research shared encouraging news: “There has been an increase in respondents citing financial barriers to AI/ML adoption
from 14 percent in 2023 to 20 percent in 2024
Yet we can see that most organisations are still planning to invest in AI
which is a positive sign for R&D overall.”
Respondents (49 percent) highlighted the need for more data governance frameworks
templates for standardisation and metadata (46 percent) and best practice guides and ‘how-to’s’ (45 percent)
to make data FAIR at scale and combat content-related issues
there has been an increase of the number of respondents interested in the practical use of ontologies
51 percent of respondents identified more maintenance and management of data standards and ontologies as an essential tool to make data FAIR; a nine percent increase from last year
Dr Upton concluded: “The Alliance’s forum and legal framework for pre-competitive collaboration and knowledge sharing is more important than ever for moving the industry forwards
We thank our members for their commitment to creating projects
resources and communities to support safe and effective AI use in the life sciences.”

The decline began during the summer preparation with training sessions practically non-existent with Rowan in the center of the field directing a group of disoriented players who did not understand what was happening. It all then spilled over into the championship with a team that struggled to play because there was no game with a coach, Calabria, intolerant of the presidential interference which, among other things, imposed his son as the only and irreplaceable player.
The subsequent events, Calabria's farewell, the arrival of Markovsky, the dramatic scenes of Rowan who led the team on the field with a complaint from the coaches union are all the effect of a management, before and after, deficient. In all this tsunami the team, between farewells, arrivals, changes of direction, tried to do what it could and despite everything there were opportunities to save themselves.
A team including Scott Aaronson demonstrated what may be the first practical application of quantum computers to a real world problem
researchers have for the first time experimentally demonstrated a way of generating random numbers from a quantum computer and then using a classical supercomputer to prove they are truly random and freshly generated
In a new paper in Nature
Oak Ridge National Laboratory and The University of Texas at Austin describe a milestone in the field of quantum computing, with potential applications in cryptography
they have for the first time experimentally demonstrated certified randomness
a way of generating random numbers from a quantum computer and then using a classical supercomputer to prove they are truly random and freshly generated
This could pave the way towards the use of quantum computers for a practical task unattainable through classical methods
provided theoretical and analytical support to the experimentalists on this latest project
“When I first proposed my certified randomness protocol in 2018
I had no idea how long I’d need to wait to see an experimental demonstration of it,” Aaronson said
“Building upon the original protocol and realizing it is a first step toward using quantum computers to generate certified random bits for actual cryptographic applications.”
converting this power into solving a practical task remained an open challenge
This challenge has now been addressed by leveraging random circuit sampling (RCS) to generate certified randomness
Randomness is an essential resource for many applications in areas such as cryptography
Classical computers alone cannot generate truly random numbers
so they are typically combined with a hardware random-number generator
But an adversary could commandeer the random-number generator and use it to provide the computer with numbers that are not fully random
allowing the adversary to then crack cryptographic codes
even if an adversary had commandeered the quantum computer
it would theoretically be impossible for them to manipulate the output and still be certified as random
Accessing the 56-qubit Quantinuum System Model H2 trapped-ion quantum computer remotely over the internet
the team generated certifiably random bits
they performed a certified-randomness-expansion protocol based on RCS
which outputs more randomness than it takes as input.
the team repeatedly fed the quantum computer challenges that it had to quickly solve which even the world’s most powerful classical supercomputer can’t quickly solve and which the quantum computer can only solve by picking one of the many possible solutions at random
the randomness was mathematically certified to be genuine using classical supercomputers
the team showed that randomness could not be mimicked by classical methods
Using classical certification across multiple leadership-scale supercomputers with a combined sustained performance of 1.1 x 1018 floating point operations per second (1.1 ExaFLOPS)
the team certified 71,313 bits of entropy.
“This work marks a major milestone in quantum computing
demonstrating a solution to a real-world challenge using a quantum computer beyond the capabilities of classical supercomputers today,” said Marco Pistoia
Head of Global Technology Applied Research and Distinguished Engineer
“This development of certified randomness not only shows advancements in quantum hardware
In June 2024, Quantinuum upgraded its System Model H2 quantum computer to 56 trapped-ion qubits and
in partnership with JPMorganChase’s Global Technology Applied Research team
a task that was originally designed to demonstrate quantum advantage
H2 improved on the existing industry state of the art by a factor of 100 thanks to its high fidelity and all-to-all qubit connectivity
leading to the conclusion that the result could not have been obtained on any existing classical computers
led to the breakthrough now described in Nature
we celebrate a pivotal milestone that brings quantum computing firmly into the realm of practical
“Our application of certified quantum randomness not only demonstrates the unmatched performance of our trapped-ion technology but sets a new standard for delivering robust quantum security and enabling advanced simulations across industries like finance
we are driving pioneering breakthroughs to redefine industries and unlock the full potential of quantum computing.”
“These results in quantum computing were enabled by the world-leading U.S
Department of Energy computing facilities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory
Argonne National Laboratory and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory,” said Travis Humble
director of the Quantum Computing User Program and director of the Quantum Science Center
“Such pioneering efforts push the frontiers of computing and provide valuable insights into the intersection of quantum computing and high-performance computing.”

The research highlights that major barriers to digital innovation in life sciences include cultural attitudes on AI’s potential
the Alliance identified Agentic AI as the technology that is expected to have the most impact over the next two to three years
based on feedback from conference attendees
Yet the industry still harbours concern around AI’s capabilities
39 percent of respondents cited AI models producing incorrect answers as the biggest issue
17 percent of respondents reported that organisations “never or rarely formally assess risks associated with AI use”
increased AI regulation is on the horizon – in fact
59 percent of our respondents expect increased government regulation in the next five years…Now is the time to embed rigorous AI risk assessments into everyday practice”
“Companies know that increased AI regulation is on the horizon – in fact
59 percent of our respondents expect increased government regulation in the next five years…Now is the time to embed rigorous AI risk assessments into everyday practice,” explained Neal Dunkinson
Senior Director of Solution Sales at the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC)
“The poll confirms what many of our members are experiencing – that progress depends on people
not just technology… we must empower the people behind the science – from researchers to C-suite leaders – with the right skills and mindset to embrace innovation,” commented Dr Becky Upton
To support the industry’s use of this emerging technology, one of the Alliance’s initiatives, its agentic AI project
seeks to “define the roles and functions of AI Agents in clinical and preclinical settings and establish industry guidelines for how agents should interact and work together”

Do not sell or share my personal information:
it seems as if you are in a city wrapped in a green blanket
This image is not just a modern suggestion
but is rooted in a centuries-old tradition that has made Pistoia famous for its cultivation and nursery gardening
there were gardens within Pistoia’s city walls dedicated to the cultivation of ornamental plants
so it can be said that the tradition of Pistoia’s nursery industry has its roots in ancient times
an advanced agrarian system had developed in Pistoia: the territory
and extensive cultivation that covered the Pistoian plain and the Valdinievole and remained the main economic activity of these lands for centuries
Pistoia was for centuries linked to its agricultural production
although it was only from the middle of the nineteenth century
and in particular ornamental nursery gard ening in which the territory began to invest
when this activity began to become an element around which the entire economy of Pistoia and its surroundings was structured. In the 1870s
nursery gardening began to develop in a more organized way
was Pistoia’s first nurseryman: he was a gardener who decided to dedicate one of his plots of land on the road leading to Lucca to this activity
thus founding one of the first modern nurseries
This period marked the beginning of a long success story
which had one of its climaxes in theEsposizione Pistoiese d’Orticoltura of 1851
which was able to receive the appreciation of the Grand Duke of Tuscany
published in postcard form (it was a forerunner of modern plant price lists)
was an important step toward promoting and marketing the industry
In the early decades of the twentieth century
occupying hundreds of hectares and creating a green belt around Pistoia
the one we still see today as one approaches the city
Nursery farming focused on fruit and ornamental plants
the activity that we still most easily associate with the name of Pistoia today
Despite difficulties caused by events such as frosts and wars
marked a boom for Pistoia’s nursery industry
with the expansion of cultivated territories and the establishment of Pistoia as a nursery business at the European level
Pistoia is known as the “green capital,” with a district that occupies more than five thousand hectares of nurseries and an annual production of millions of plants
The city is a point of reference for nurserymen
landscapers and green architects from all over the world
And Pistoia’s nursery tradition is not only a source of local pride but also a significant contribution to the Italian economy and culture
which the Montalbano mountain range divides from the Pistoia plain
is less affected by this nursery tradition
but greenery is nonetheless the element that best characterizes the landscape of this portion of the province as well as the rest of the territory
Italy’s largest inland wetland and a paradise for biodiversity
Here the streams flow amid hilly landscapes planted with olive trees and flowers
creating a relaxing environment rich in life
and convincing the eye to travel as far as the medieval villages of the “Svizzera Pesciatina”
the mountainous region north of Pescia (for centuries considered the capital of the Valdinievole) that the Swiss historian and economist Jean Charles Léonard Simone de Sismondi
who settled in Pescia itself in the early 19th century
for the villages clinging to the mountains (there are ten
for the outlines of the mountains that grip the valley
the spas of Montecatini and Monsummano are also immersed in a verdant natural setting: parks that invite regeneration
Monsummano’s Grotta Giusti that represents an underground wonder (a unique thermal karst cavity nestled in the woods)
Every corner of the province of Pistoia seems to pulsate with a life infused with greenery that manifests itself in the parks
one finds oneself immersed in dense forests of beech and silver fir
botanical gardens and nature reserves preserve rare species and offer trails through pristine mountain landscapes
the landscape changes but does not lose its green essence: rolling hills are dotted with vineyards and olive groves
while chestnut forests dominate the summits
This territory has been shaped by human beings who over the centuries have transformed it into a countryside that almost resembles a garden
a landscape in which natural beauty blends with agricultural productivity
The paths through Montalbano offer glimpses of Pistoia and Abetone
while the ancient manor houses (above all Villa La Magia in Quarrata
a Medici residence) and ancient villages help tell the story of this land
creating a harmony between art and landscape
Its monumental garden is a masterpiece that celebrates nature organized according to strict aesthetic principles
demonstrating how landscape is an integral part of the artistic experience
More recently, in contemporary times, greenery has found new forms of expression in environmental art and street art. Pinocchio Park in Collodi
but is an extraordinary example where art and nature come together to tell universal stories
Here 20th-century artists such as Emilio Greco and Venturino Venturi created works that celebrate the relationship between man and the environment by telling the story of history’s most famous puppet
But a leading role should be assigned to the Gori Collection at the Fattoria di Celle
which is unique in the international art scene and fits perfectly into the cultural and natural context of the Pistoia area
this extraordinary collection of environmental art is the result of the innovative vision of Giuliano and Pina Gori
who have transformed a historic villa into an open-air museum where art and nature dialogue harmoniously
is a place that celebrates the fusion of the Tuscan landscape and contemporary art
It is the first environmental art collection in Italy
when the collection was opened to the public (its conception
the villa’s grounds have been home to more than 80 site-specific works
conceived by the artists to integrate completely with their surroundings
These creations are not simply displayed: they are an integral part of the place
English gardens and historic buildings of the estate
Internationally renowned artists such as Daniel Buren
Michelangelo Pistoletto and Mauro Staccioli have helped transform Fattoria di Celle into a kind of interdisciplinary laboratory
Their works blend with the natural and architectural landscape: sculptures immersed among the olive trees
installations that dialogue with the historic walls of the villa
and interventions that exploit the meadows and hills as a canvas
The uniqueness of the Gori Collection lies in its ability to enhance nature and the environment through art
The works not only celebrate the beauty of the natural landscape but also reinterpret it
transforming it into an active part of the artistic experience
Environmental art here becomes a tool for exploring the relationship between man and nature
inviting visitors to experience the land in a new way
The example of the Fattoria di Celle was followed by the Municipality of Quarrata , which in 2000, after taking possession of the aforementioned Villa La Magia, created yet another environmental art project, the contemporary art garden Genius Loci - The Spirit of Place
which houses works by artists such as Fabrizio Corneli
it is not only the monuments and environmental art collections that are the places that most testify to this relationship between Pistoia and the green
One significant place is the Museo Naturalistico Archeologico dell’Appennino Pistoiese (MuNAP)
which offers a view of the environment of thePistoian Apennines
the Museo del Novecento e del Contemporaneo in Palazzo Fabroni houses a contemporary “signature garden” that combines art and nature
offering a modern perspective on the relationship between humans and the environment
an example of how greenery can be integrated into contemporary architecture and art
Pistoia continues to be a place where greenery is celebrated in all its forms
From the gardens of the Medici villas to the spas of Montecatini and Monsummano
the area offers a variety of natural landscapes that invite discovery
The city is also a hub for green literature and art
with events and initiatives that promote environmental awareness and nature-related wellness
A place where green is not only a natural element
but a symbol of a culture that has been able to harmoniously integrate anthropization and care for the environment
Imagining Pistoia means imagining a mosaic of green landscapes
history and nature merge into a single experience
And if you find yourself walking among the olive trees of the Pistoian countryside
you can almost smell the scent of this green
the green that becomes the color of the history and future of Pistoia and its territory
The alliance’s president discusses the current state of data sharing
Modern technology requires large amounts of data to work properly
While this has vastly improved the ability of many companies to produce results
it also creates more opportunities for security breaches
spoke with Pharmaceutical Executive about this issue
Pharmaceutical Executive: Is the increase in AI adoption expected to continue in the coming years?Dr
Becky Upton: AI will indeed become a powerful tool in the life sciences and pharma industries
it will be one of many tools used in R&D and healthcare
There are some notable AI use cases we can get excited about though
AI supports precision medicine by analyzing genetic and real-world patient data for personalized treatments and integrates large datasets for better clinical decision-making
AI enhances real-world evidence analysis and boosts lab efficiency through automation
AI-driven non-animal models such as digital twins will have the potential to streamline drug testing
Regulatory bodies are increasingly supportive of the long-term replacement of animal models
with new legislation such as the FDA Modernization Act 2.0
improving data accessibility and collaboration across the industry
PE: What are the major security and privacy concerns surrounding AI?Upton: The risks of AI really depend on its use case and the data that is being worked with
Our members have raised several concerns at various Alliance webinars and Community of Expert sessions
often containing sensitive patient information
Ensuring compliance with regulations like GDPR and HIPAA is critical to protect patient data privacy and confidentiality
There should be informed consent for patients about the use of their data to train AI models
Data integrity and security are also critical
Inaccurate or tampered data can lead to incorrect AI model training and flawed healthcare recommendations
which may endanger patient safety in clinical use cases
Bias is an increasing issue as AI use grows
Depending on the data they are trained with
models can unintentionally perpetuate biases from the training data
leading to inaccurate predictions or unequal treatment across different patient groups
Transparency and explainability of models will be key for combatting bias and data integrity concerns
so researchers and clinicians can understand how AI decisions are made
regulatory confusion is now a widespread problem on a global scale for pharma
Pistoia Alliance research earlier this year found only 9% of life science professionals know EU and US AI regulations well
with more than a third (35%) having no understanding at all
The EU AI Act is causing particular confusion since rules are based on AI’s potential risk and level of impact to consumers
High risk applications such as medical devices
and diagnostic AI will require conformity assessments
while limited risk applications such as chatbots must be clearly labelled as AI tools
These new assessments are adding to the long list that pharma companies must already comply with
it’s good that these regulations are shaping an ethical AI future
but the lack of harmonization and clarity on compliance is currently creating uncertainty for companies operating across multiple jurisdictions
PE: What is causing companies to become more open to data sharing?Upton: Companies are becoming more open to sharing data
Pre-competitive collaboration is growing as companies increasingly realize the value of sharing expertise on areas like best practices for adopting new technologies and preventing repeated experiments – which has a huge cost and time benefit
and regulatory pressures are pulling companies together
which brought together ten pharmaceutical companies to create predictive models using vast datasets of small molecules
without compromising the confidentiality of proprietary data
MELLODDY used a federated learning approach
meaning that each company's data remained behind their firewalls
with algorithms trained across distributed datasets
Whilst there is a desire to become more open and to share data
there are still silos of data within organizations themselves
Data silos hinder collaboration and slow innovation
while concerns about security and regulatory compliance
PE: What are the main data management challenges for pharmaceutical companies?Upton: The main data management challenges in the pharmaceutical industry include data silos
where information is isolated across departments
preventing efficient collaboration and insights
Ensuring data security and compliance with strict regulations like GDPR and HIPAA is critical to protect sensitive data
such as patient information and proprietary research
Data quality and integrity issues can lead to inaccurate research findings
impacting the validity of clinical trials and drug development
as different systems and formats make it difficult to aggregate and analyze diverse data sources effectively
scalability and storage of the growing volumes of data require robust systems to ensure accessibility without escalating costs
To successfully harness AI in the pharmaceutical industry
vision and leadership from the top are essential
Leadership must understand that AI thrives on well-structured
Without proper data organization and governance
AI models cannot deliver accurate insights or drive innovation
This requires a strategic commitment to robust data management
ensuring that data are not only accessible but also curated for AI readiness
leaders should foster a culture that values cross-functional collaboration and data sharing
while supporting investments in advanced infrastructure and training to realize AI’s full potential

The verdict has arrived in the LBA's race to save the team. At PalaCarrara, the Vanoli Cremona achieves a fundamental victory, sweeping the board Pistoia and thus securing their permanence in the top division. For the Tuscans, however, comes thebitter relegation together with Scafati, also defeated at home. A bad ending for the red and whites, who only a few days ago, with the success over Venice, had rekindled their hopes.
Cooke 5: suffers the physical coupling with Owens and struggles on both sides of the court; he also misses simple semi-hook shots in attack.
Forrest 5: completely out of rhythm in the first half of the game, he only scored points when the game was already over, closing with a bad 1/7 from three.
Looting 6: as always generous and intense, he puts himself at the service of his teammates with precious assists in the first half, but then he drops and no longer has an impact.
Benetti 5,5: used extensively in the first quarter, but not very precise in shooting and unable to leave a mark.
Allen 5,5: tries to shake up the team at a critical moment in the second quarter, but he is not the driving force seen at Taliercio. only one attempt from the arc: a sign of how much Cremona was able to limit him.
Della Rosa 6: four rebounds and tears at the end of the game: a symbol of someone who never gave up even in the most difficult moments.
Paschall 6,5: excellent approach to the game, he uses his physicality well to attack the basket and is among the last to give up.
Valerio Bodon 5,5: only 5 points and 4 rebounds: never really in the game.
Okhorn 5: the timeout called in the second quarter does not have the desired effect, and the team sinks without ever recovering. After the away defeat at Taliercio, a much more combative performance was expected.
Owens 7: spectacular dunks and dominance under the basket in key moments. Not incisive from afar, but his contribution is fundamental. 17 rating.
Willis 7: classy triples for the ex of the day, already at +18 plus/minus at halftime. Excellent performance.
Jones 6,5: contributes with good offensive and rebounding plays, solid presence.
Davis 7,5: He defends strongly on the main opposing firepower, plays for his teammates and also finds important points between the first and second quarters.
Nikolic 7: his points at the beginning of the third quarter definitely split the game. Almost always on the field, he closes with a 21 rating.
Omenaka 6,5: 7 rebounds in the first half, then he leaves space for his teammates in the second half.
Christian 6: booed at the entrance, he doesn't enchant but still gives his contribution to the cause.
Zampini 6: only 2 points in 17 minutes, but brings order when needed.
Burns 6,5: from the bench he brings experience and concreteness, precious in the hot moments.
Brotto 7,5: an evening to frame: prepares a very delicate match in the best way, and the team responds in a great way. Everyone gives their contribution for a very important salvation.

Takeda and others discuss patient-centricity
not-for-profit alliance that advocates for greater collaboration in life sciences R&D
has announced the results of a global survey in conjunction with CCC (Copyright Clearance Center)
on the impact of AI and copyright legislation on pharma R&D
While 83% of life science professionals are now using generative AI in their research
there is still widespread concern about the impact of differing AI regulations on cross-border research collaboration (85%)
42% of respondents said they don’t think about copyright before sharing or using third-party information with AI tools
The survey was conducted at the Alliance’s annual US conference held this year in Philadelphia
which gathered more than 200 industry experts to collaborate on topics such as AI regulation
“It’s encouraging to see such an uptake in the number of researchers using Generative AI to accelerate R&D
but it’s a concern that copyright is often an afterthought
Less than half (40%) of organizations have a team or person dedicated to understanding copyright issues and AI
even though this is a complex area that requires expertise,” said Babis Marmanis
“The Pistoia Alliance provides an ideal forum to bring copyright to the forefront of discussions around AI adoption and explore how to facilitate the compliant use of AI with published content.”
The event also saw the launch of a new whitepaper from ZS and Pistoia Alliance: ‘Are misaligned incentives preventing better patient outcomes in life sciences R&D?’
The joint paper contains insights from 25 industry leaders to explore how to create a future where near-real-time integration of human health data fuels R&D innovation
Other keynotes at the conference were delivered by Dr Genevieve Haliburton from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative on its rare disease project
which takes a patient-led approach to driving research priorities
by establishing disease-specific data repositories and collaborating closely with scientific
Dr Jennifer Van Camp from AbbVie discussed how organizations can leverage clinical
and patient real-world data to identify disease comorbidities and drug repurposing opportunities
Collaboration on data standards and ontologies was also widely discussed
underscoring the critical role of a robust data backbone in successful AI adoption
The Alliance launched its new industry benchmark report on the implementation of Identification of Medicinal Products (IDMP) standards
which are due to become mandatory across the EU
with the FDA likely to follow close behind
By standardizing the terminology used to describe substances
the Alliance’s IDMP Ontology will aid compliance
and enable safer cross-border prescriptions
discussing the importance of standardized data in toxicology
with the Standard for Exchange of Nonclinical Data (SEND)
He highlighted how collaborations on harmonizing data standards have improved regulatory review practices and enabled predictive models to enhance drug safety
“AI is fast becoming commonplace in R&D
yet a fifth of researchers are still not using the technology
The best way to overcome any lingering adoption hurdles is together
We must ensure those remaining researchers have the confidence and expertise to use AI safely
and enable better outcomes for patients,” commented Dr Becky Upton
the Alliance is committed to launching projects that will deliver a tangible impact to the life science industry
we are keen for new project suggestions and are looking forward to broadening the Alliance’s reach even further
and involving more global regulatory agencies in our communities.”

Pistoia Blues
These are tumultuous days for theEstra PistoiaThe Tuscan team is in serious corporate difficulty and recently the turning point at the top of the club: Ron Rowan has resigned as president
On the day of such an important change and the failure of the now ex-American president's plans
one of the excluded of the past months has instead found a new position
The relationship between Dante Calabria and the Pistoia society had ended with a decidedly negative ending
The relationship with Ron Rowan had deteriorated more and more
to the point that the president himself had begun to direct the training sessions
leaving Calabria on the sidelines of the project
Finally the club had decided to take disciplinary action against the coach
who had shown up at the palace refusing to coach
before definitively terminating the relationship
Dante Calabria will now continue his career in Puerto Rico
according to what we have been able to learn
would have in fact agreement reached with the Piratas of Qurebradillas
Calabria will be the new assistant coach of the team
taking on a different role than what he did in Tuscany
but an experience that could bring him just as many benefits from a human and basketball point of view in such a different league
Calabria definitively puts an end to his past in Pistoia
while Estra tries to understand what will become of its future
With the hope that for Pistoia too a new chapter can soon begin
The city of Pistoia boasts remarkable records that make it truly unique
from iconic landmarks to priceless artefacts and centuries-old traditions
Here’s a selection of must-see curiosities in the city
the Teatrino Gatteschi is a baroque gem hidden in the historic heart of Pistoia within Palazzo Gatteschi
the ancestral home of the Gatteschi family
this miniature theatre is one of the most enchanting examples of small-scale theatre design
Its maximum capacity of only 15 people makes it an intimate and exclusive venue
The space features extraordinary architectural solutions
Since July 2021, the Polo Culturale Puccini Gatteschi has managed the Teatrino Gatteschi
A visit to the Museo dell’Ospedale del Ceppo reveals the Teatrino Anatomico
an extraordinary testament to Pistoia’s medical-surgical school and one of the smallest anatomical theatres in the world
One of them features semi-circular benches for students
with a capacity of no more than 15 per class
The museum also houses a section in the former men’s ward of San Jacopo
showcasing the history of Pistoia’s healthcare system
including surgical instruments from the 18th to the early 20th century
Pistoia Sotterranea is Tuscany’s longest underground route
accessible to both disabled and visually impaired visitors
The 650-meter stretch winds beneath much of the city’s historic centre
Pistoia’s primary healthcare institution since 1277
Following the ancient bed of the Brana River
evidence of the city’s vertical development
The path’s origins trace back to the 12th century
evolving as Pistoia expanded its defensive walls
Pistoia Sotterranea offers visitors a unique perspective on medieval daily life
The Biblioteca Forteguerriana in Pistoia holds a rare 19th-century edition of Dante’s Divine Comedy condensed onto a single sheet (71×50 cm) with writing so tiny it challenges the human eye
framed with classical architectural elements and featuring a portrait of Dante
was created by publisher Cossovel in the late 19th century
a time when such works were highly valued by collectors
this remarkable piece is still available for public viewing
the Pistoia Blues Festival is one of Italy’s longest-running and most prestigious music events
the festival has hosted legendary performances by artists like Carlos Santana
the festival transforms Piazza del Duomo into a stage for unforgettable musical experiences
Floriculture is a cornerstone of Pistoia’s economy
With abundant water and a favorable climate shielded by the Apennines
the city has become a leading hub for ornamental plant production
The area is home to about 2,000 mostly family-run businesses
exporting more than half of their production worldwide
showcasing the expertise of Pistoia’s growers
Located in the Pistoiese Mountains, the Ponte Sospeso delle Ferriere in San Marcello Piteglio was the longest suspension bridge in the world until 2006
as certified by the Guinness World Records
the 227-meter-long bridge spans the Lima River
it originally served as a vital link for workers commuting to the S.M.I
Although no longer used for its original purpose
the bridge remains a stunning feat of engineering and a must-visit tourist attraction
To win four in a row, however, you have to start off on the right foot and win in Pistoia with a couple of unknowns, or rather, certainties. The first is that Virtus will play in Tuscany without its fans, who followed the team everywhere, cheering it loudly, even when things weren't going the right way.
The second is linked to the fact that Pistoia, last and on the edge of a precipice - there are also corporate problems that do not leave the Tuscans at ease - will play with water up to its neck and with the strength of desperation. The message that Dusko Ivanovic he sent to his players may not be original, but it is very important: "Do not get distracted."
Virtus was able to react, find itself again, identify new balances: it would be a 'crime' to waste the efforts made so far, approaching the match in the wrong way.
Ivanovic has dried up the rotations, he has offered chances and possibilities to everyone. And even today he will not deviate from his strategic plan, while keeping in mind that he will have great faith in his loyalists. Which at this moment are Pajola, Hackett, Cordinier, Clyburn and Shengelia.
But it would be wrong to reduce Virtus to this sort of 'low' quintet, because from the bench there are still guys who are capable of making a difference.
In Pistoia with the right attitude, to hold on to first place in the standings and look forward to Easter (tomorrow is a day of absolute rest) and the following days with confidence. Knowing that the calendar includes home games against Varese and Trapani (coincidentally the other leader) interspersed with the away game in Scafati.
Match broadcast by Dazn and Nettuno Bologna Uno and refereed by referees Bartoli, Gonella and Bartolomeo.
Here is the analysis of assistant coach Nenad Jakovljevic.
"We face Pistoia aware of the fact that for them every possession of every game is fundamental. From the tip-off they will try to put us in difficulty by playing hard and aggressively: we know their way of playing in attack, based a lot on penetrations after close outs and mid-range shots. We have a clear idea in our heads of what we will have to do in defense according to our principles. The fundamental thing for us will be to play as a team with the goal of winning every duel".
Finally, the transfer market links the name of Shaquielle McKissic, 34 years old, playing for Olympiacos, to the black V.
Beyond the statistics, what is impressive is the fluidity of the game expressed by the team, without ever forcing the shot, but always looking for the extra pass to get the free teammate into rhythm. Everything easy then for the Virtus which he has between himself and playoff the last three matches starting with next Sunday's match at the Segafredo Arena against Varese, before the away match in Scafati and the last and probably decisive challenge against Trapani.
Market or no market, the conditions for this end of the season promise well for the Juventus fans who yesterday, due to the ban on away matches, were unable to follow the team to Pistoia.

presenting revisited and recreated works by the artist in a continuous process of Faire
Palazzo Buontalenti will be the central hub of the exhibition
from which the journey will extend to other Pistoia Musei venues with new site-specific works
The exhibition will also establish an ideal connection with the interventions that Daniel Buren has carried out in the region since the 2000s
such as the fountain Muri Fontane a tre colori pour un hexagone (2005-2011) in the park of Villa La Magia in Quarrata and La Cabane Éclatée aux Quatre Salles (2005) in the Gori Collection – Fattoria di Celle in Santomato
The exhibition will be accompanied by a program of related activities and a catalog
which will also include an interview with Daniel Buren conducted by Monica Preti
The exhibition is organized by the Fondazione Pistoia Musei

2024 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/- GFNY Global Endurance Sports Series is back in Italy with GFNY Toscana-Pistoia
The race is held in the picturesque and cultural heart of Tuscany
The area is also arguably the center of road cycling in the world: some of the greatest professional riders
live in the area and numerous road races from junior to World Tour are held there year round
The 72-mile GFNY long course with 6,450 feet of climbing epitomizes what can be referred to as the “Disneyland of cycling”: small
olive groves and through historic towns and villages
Speaking of history: the course traverses Vinci
“GFNY Italia was the first GFNY away from its home in NYC back in 2014,” says GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme
“True Italian granfondo racing is what we exported to NYC in 2010 and from there around the world
So having a race in Italy is a must have for us as part of the global GFNY calendar
But it is also a huge honor to have a GFNY in Italy because GFNY owes Italian granfondo racing so much
Cycling is a religion in Italy in general and in the Pistoia area in particular: everyone knows the ins and outs and riders are skilled and fit like in no other region.”

La salvation mission dell'Estra has become possible again in the last two days, even without the possibility of making any more mistakes and with the necessary results: "The team's morale is high, we must never give up an inch - continues Allen -. The goal is to go out there and be as competitive as possible. We know we can compete with everyone and we know we have the means to win both games. We have to play the game of our lives first against Cremona and then against Reggio Emilia".
Finally, a parenthesis on Kadeem Allen off the field: "The most beautiful and important job for me is being a dad. I love my little girls and I will always be grateful for the joy they have brought into my life. They give me the right motivation to keep going, especially last year when I tore my Achilles tendon. Off the field I am a father, a son, a brother, a boy who loves to enjoy life and what it gives us every day".
New turnaround on the bench of Estra Pistoia, who changes the third coach in a very short time. After the turbulent farewell to coach Dante Calabria
now it will be up to coach Gasper Okron lead the Tuscan team towards salvation
This is the press release from Estra Pistoia announcing the change of technical leadership:
“AS Estra Pistoia Basket 2000 announces that Zare Markovski is no longer the coach of the first team
the club is working to reach a consensual resolution of the agreement with the coach
The club would like to thank the coach for his commitment and professionalism shown in recent weeks
The new head coach of Estra Pistoia Basket 2000 will be Gasper Okorn
and current coach of the Hungarian national team
Coach Okorn has already arrived in the city this morning to attend the team's training: all the bureaucratic procedures for his registration have been started but he will not be on the bench for the match on Sunday at 19.30:XNUMX pm at the PalaLeonessa against Germani Brescia”
has experience as a head coach mainly in Eastern European countries
His coaching career began way back in 1996 when he sat on the bench of the youth team of ŽKK Škofja Loka
His CV also includes experience as an assistant coach at Olimpia Ljubljana (2006)
a team he coached as head coach the following season
he also coached Ventsplils (2007-2008) and again Olimpia Ljubljana in the two-year period 2016-2018
He also has experience with national teams
In addition to being the current Technical Commissioner of the Hungarian national team
in 2005 he was assistant coach of the Slovenia U20 team and
assistant coach of the Slovenian senior national team
On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Pistoia will host the traditional vesting of the statue of Saint James (or Jacopo), located on the right side of the façade of the Cathedral of San Zeno
a historical parade will wind through the streets of the city center
The color red evokes the martyrdom of Saint James
while the cloak refers to a curious local legend that depicts him as an insolvent debtor
who allegedly promised to pay his creditors when it became “very hot.” By July
he was found wearing a heavy cloak to show that the heat had not yet arrived

Comitato cittadino di Pistoia ETS
which is trying to avoid relegation to Serie A2
Pistoia keeps alive its hopes of salvation
while Venezia suffers a setback in the race for the playoffs
he was unable to influence the progress of the match
commitment both in attack and defense with his 16 points in 15 minutes
attacking the rim with determination and distributing 6 assists and 29 points
McGruder 5: did not have a good impact on the race
Casarin 5: very few minutes on the pitch for him today
Parks 5,5: He shows a good offensive ability
always ready to give a hand to his team in moments of difficulty
but today he is not brilliant on the defensive side
Spahia 5: a little in difficulty during the match
he expressed strong disappointment after the match
Forrest 8: he led the Pistoia team from the tip-off
Pascal 7: contributes to his team's victory with a good performance
Sacks 6,5: he puts all his pride on the field
highlighting the importance of wanting to remain in this category
he contributed with many useful things both in attack and defense
Benetti 7: one of his best performances since he wore the Pistoia jersey
Della Rosa 6,5: He patiently managed the offensive possessions
also putting on a show with assists at the end
Cooke 7: works well with his back to the basket
Allen 8: he showed off his offensive class by scoring 16 points and carrying the team on his shoulders
Okhorn 8: you can see the progress of his players
And today, in the event of a win against Pistoia, second to last at 16 points, and a simultaneous defeat of Cerretese (also tied on points but with a 2-0 advantage in direct clashes), the Legends have the opportunity to close the regular season in seventh place, which means that in the first round of the playoffs they will meet Pescia (already beaten twice in the championship) rather than the league leaders Calcinaia (with whom they lost in the first and second legs).
Coach Guglielmo Rossi (pictured) wants to close the first phase on a high note and forget about Rosignano as soon as possible: "while in the interrupted game we were in the game and could have made it, in the recovery we struggled a lot, we were unable to keep up the pace and we played below par". In the first leg the Legends won 76-60.
There seems to be no end to the difficulties, problems and clouds for Estra Pistoia. Here are all the updates from yesterday thanks to what we were able to learn from our sources and the precise reconstruction of PistoiaSport
The transfer of Maverick Rowan to the Juvi Cremona in Serie A2 has been skipped
The news was reported by several sources and although it seemed like a done deal it ended in nothing even though the player already considered himself out of the roster
the number 8 biancorosso remains in Tuscany
but separated at home and his presence in Naples is shrouded in mystery
The consensual resolution with the playmaker has been made official Semaj Christon as we had already reported yesterday morningThe player closes his experience in red and white with 18 games
14,6 points on average and 5,6 assists per game and officially signs in Cremona with a contract filed at the last minute and ready to debut in Lombardy
The official announcement of the new purchase came immediately after: Marco Ceron
has signed a contract until the end of the 2024/25 season
Ceron will be available for the match on Sunday 2 March against Naples Basket
Only Italian players were present at the training session and Derek Cooke
while Michael Forrest He only joined for the shooting session
Maurice Kemp would have expressed the will not to play against Napoli (destination Israel as reported on Backdoor Podcast)
It now seems certain that Pistoia Basket will face Naples with a team reduced to the minimum
also Forrest reportedly received offers from abroad
making the red and white team even more precarious
The only positive note is the officialization of Marco Ceron
which allows you to avoid the 50.000 euro fine imposed by the FIP for the lack of a sixth Italian in the report
The events of yesterday do not take into account what President Ron Rowan is doing (or not doing) in the United States to try to keep alive the flame of hope of this team that
is seriously at risk for the rest of the season
The developments of the next few hours will be crucial to understand what the fate of the Tuscan team will be
The success in Pistoia allows the yellow and purple to improve their standings at the last minute: they go up to 32 points and, thanks to the defeat of Cerretese (which remains at 30 points, defeated 85-71 in Rosignano), they finish in seventh place and in the playoff quarterfinals they will face Pescia who finishes second despite the unexpected home defeat against Invictus Livorno.
The score: Donati 30, Fontanelli 4, Canciello 10, Borghini 7, Ferla 5, Benfatto, Diamanti 6, Leonardi 7, Donnini.
The new version of Basketball Varese could soon have a new field guide
The Lombard team is still waiting for Pistoia's response on Michael Forrest
a player who would give Varese a big hand in terms of salvation
The only unknown is whether the Tuscan team will want to let go of the player and sell him to a direct rival
Secondo The Prealpina
Pallacanestro Varese has put an important buyout on the table for the player (we are talking about 50 thousand euros):
waiting to understand if the Tuscan club will actually sell him (discussions are underway between president Ron Rowan and the other American partners
regardless of the owner's desire to change the structure using the latest one seen for a pure playmaker)”
Forrest is averaging 16.8 points and 3.8 assists per game this season and could be the right profile for Varese
We remind you that the transfer market within Serie A will close definitively on February 28
the new coach from Varese Ioannis Kastritis has begun his work focused on defense
today he will direct the first training session with almost full ranks
given the absences of Matteo Librizzi and Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu
busy with their respective national teams for the qualifying matches for EuroBasket 2025
Five days to go in which Milan will have an easy schedule, becoming practically the arbiter of salvation: today it will challenge Pistoia, on Friday 18 Cremona and then on the last match of the championship Scafati. The key challenge will be on May 4 in Trapani with the current leader. At the moment Olimpia has four points to recover on the Sicilians, on Bologna and Brescia, two on Trento. A comeback that is not easy, but not impossible, at least to try to get into the top four.
The season of Pistoia Basketball is ending in the worst possible way. After the long-standing corporate issue, and the first diaspora of players, which also involved Semaj Christon
now comes the separation also with Maurice Kemp
The official note, released on Official site of the club in the morning
puts an end to the hopes of recovering one of the most important players for coach Gasper Okorn
who will now have to perform a real sporting miracle to save the Tuscans
the injury to the American winger would force him to sit out another 20 days
The Miami native closes his experience in Tuscany with 15.3 dots
7.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in an average of 33.8 minutes played
