An Italian football coach has gone viral for receiving one of the craziest red cards you will ever see
The bizarre moment happened as Pontassieve took on Subbiano in Italy's sixth tier this weekend
A Pontassieve player was seemingly through on goal when one coach from the opposition decided to charge onto the pitch and hack him down
It has already been dubbed one of football's maddest moments and is one you really cannot miss
Already viewed over 1.5m times on X
fans have reacted wildly to the bonkers clip
the coach could not hold in his intrusive thoughts and was instantly dismissed
The coach in question also hilariously held his hands into the air protesting the decision that was about to come his way despite having no defence for his actions
which just serves to underline how much of an impact the intervention from the Subbiano coach had on the match
The coach has been identified as Alessio Guidotti
later condemned the actions of his opposite number
“I am mostly sorry for Subbiano because they are a famous and respectful club," he told local media
"Their coach’s attitude sullied them and affected the game’s outcome because we were attacking two against one.”
Subbiano have since released their own response to the saga
hinting that Guidotti could soon be relieved from his duties as manager
“The club is deeply sorry for what happened during Pontassieve-Subbiano,” they said in a statement.
and we surely are the first ones to be upset
we are all football fans who come to watch games driven by passion
"To get an advantage this way is unfair and deserves punishment
we are convinced that it was not a violent incident
and we are even more convinced that our coach
“We hope tones will be kept down as they have been as unpleasant as the incident itself.”

Castles and historic mansions in Italy have long been family inheritances
cuts in government subsidies for historical properties and rising property taxes are ending an ancient tradition
Italy — Nestled on a gentle Tuscan hill near this town just west of Florence
sits a medieval castle that was once home to the few prominent noble families who plotted against the Medicis’ rule during the Renaissance
the descendants of the nobles and of the peasants who served them lived sheltered by the fortress’s creneled walls or in the nearby country houses
“I remember a procession of over 25 farmers’ families to the Sunday’s Mass here up until the late 1960s,” said Franco Viliani
“It might sound strange for a pseudo-feudal system
we have seen some owners once or twice a year.”
Today the entire estate is deserted and up for sale — castle
While that might seem an exceptional circumstance
Italy’s well-rooted inherited wealth has withered from a potent combination of factors
They include the increasing costs of living and services
the shaky finances of owners in a time of lingering economic trouble
cuts in government subsidies to maintain historical properties and
“The Italian market is mostly historical — mansions pass from generation to generation,” said Dimitri Corti
a real-estate company based in Florence whose portfolio boasts about 70 castles in central and northern Italy
“It is not necessarily true that the owner is a millionaire like one can assume in countries like the United States or England,” he added
those with the money to buy are frequently not Italians
a worrisome circumstance to some here who bemoan the loss of historical and family patrimony to a newly moneyed global elite
The bulk of Lionard’s sellers are Italians
while the majority of buyers are foreigners
They predominantly seek villas or mansions in Tuscany
and are ready to spend an average of 6 or 7 million euros (about $6.75 million to $7.85 million)
“It is no longer reasonable to think that the owner of a neighboring castle would buy yours,” Corti added
more 50 percent of Lionard’s clients come from Russia and the former Soviet Union
while the rest mostly live in North America
Italians have historically inherited properties and benefited from low property taxes
as the financial crisis deepened and the government came under pressure to balance its books
Prime Minister Mario Monti raised property taxes and started a review of the land register’s assessment of home values
where owners used to pay little — as compensation for the elevated costs of maintaining centuries-old structures — the taxes increased by 20 or 30 times
taxes spiked from 3,000 euros (about $3,400) in 2011 to 75,000 euros (about $84,000) by 2013
especially in regions where the property’s market value or tourism interest is low
Landowners’ attempts to navigate the changes have often fallen short
Some Italian owners who bought properties as an investment transformed them into luxury hotels
hoping to offset the steep costs of maintaining ancient frescoed walls and immense Italian gardens
often including acres of olives groves and vineyards
Yet demand for luxurious holidays has not boomed in recent years
and some resorts have registered few guests
the 4,600 square feet on five floors of the Tavolese castle
mentioned in Dante’s “Divine Comedy,” and then the Canigiani family
whose daughter Elena gave birth to Francesco Petrarch
The 14th-century castle was turned into a lavish bed-and-breakfast and wedding venue
But today the fruits of the estate’s 5,000 olive trees have not been picked for years
and the newlyweds’ bed from last summer remains unmade
Buyers can make the whole place theirs for 18 million euros (just over $20 million)
But living a nobleman’s life in Italy comes at a cost
New owners face the same onerous bureaucracy if they seek to make even minimal changes to many older properties
the owner of a historic building is its custodian
bound to maintain it and grant its security and
This is the reason many buyers give up on properties of great historic value but in bad condition
who want to have modern comforts like a spa
or a lift,” said Moroello Diaz della Vittoria Pallavicini
president of the Italian Historic Houses Association
“We no longer live like in 1800,” he added
“But 99 percent of those changes are either impossible or extremely bureaucratic and complicated in an Italian historic building.”
many of the association’s 5,500 members would prefer never to sell their property
Often the only other option is abandonment
especially for castles and monuments not located in tourist regions
“If a Tuscan owner who sells his mansion can hope in a Russian
British or American buyer to restore his family’s finances

Ronaldinho the man has his flaws but Ronaldinho the showman was Brazil’s coolest export
He used to do this trick where he pinged a ball 20 yards above his head and watched it drop before killing it dead on his big toe
It was my favourite party piece — until I stumbled across footage of Kerlon Moura Souza
defying gravity in a way which Ronaldinho couldn’t

Both of them in that respect were made for the social media age
Kerlon was a white-hot star who burned out before he was 30
He should have been a Brazil international
Today, he lives near Charlotte in North Carolina. He runs a local football school. Little did he know that he had become a pet project of The Athletic’s Jack Lang.Desperate to write about him properly
Jack tried everything to get Kerlon to speak to him
So Jack took the only option available to him and turned up on the Brazilian’s doorstep
Kerlon’s unique knack of running while controlling a football with his head was dubbed ‘The Seal Dribble’
He was duly nicknamed O Foquinha — the Little Seal
He would do it unashamedly in competitive matches
absolutely halved him as a means of retribution
YouTube has footage of players brazenly taking him out
his dad had to check that the tactic was within the laws of the game
“We worked on it every day in order to perfect it,” Kerlon told Jack
It was also the mid-2000s and a time when European clubs were dipping into the South American talent pool. Kerlon was far more than a performing seal. Inter Milan brought him to Italy in 2008
“I didn’t want to be in pain anymore,” he said

Gibraltar don’t figure much in coverage of international football. They’re not at San Marino levels — their record contains a small stack of victories — but a territory with a comparable population of 33,000 is as competitive as you’d imagine
They exist in a strange political orbit, though. To recap briefly, Gibraltar (on the Mediterranean Sea) is a sovereign United Kingdom state and has been since the 18th century. It was previously Spanish land, and Spain has since attempted to reclaim it — without success
Needless to say, that makes Gibraltar contentious. Spain blocked the national team’s bid to secure UEFA membership until 2013. The matter flared up after Spain beat England in the final of Euro 2024
Rodri and Alvaro Morata were heard chanting “Gibraltar is Spanish” to the crowd around them
UEFA banned both players for “violating the basic rules of decent conduct”
Both examples show how Gibraltar is a bit of a political football — used by the Spanish and, often, the English to score petty points against each other. The Athletic’s Dermot Corrigan decided to go there last week
where the landscape is dominated by the eponymous ‘Rock’ (above) — in action
He wanted to ask how the most important people in this dispute — the people who actually live there — felt about it
They might be British but they certainly don’t want to be seen as English
They don’t want to be seen as Spanish either

ROME (AP) — Italian Premier Matteo Renzi announced he will resign Monday after suffering a stinging loss in a reforms referendum
triggering immediate calls from a populist party and other opposition forces for elections to be held soon
"The 'No's' have won in an extraordinary clear-cut way," Renzi told reporters in Rome about an hour after polls had closed in Sunday's balloting
"I lost and the post that gets eliminated is mine," Renzi said
"The government's experience is over
and in the afternoon I'll go to the Quirinal Hill to hand in my resignation" to President Sergio Mattarella
The 5-Stars are the chief rivals of Renzi's Democrats and are anxious to achieve national power for the first time
With ballots counted from nearly half of the polling stations
the "No" votes were running at nearly 60 percent to 40 percent for the "Yes" votes on reforms Renzi claimed were vital to modernize Italy
Mattarella as head of state would have to decide whether to accept any resignation
Renzi is expected to be asked to stay on at least until a budget bill can be passed later this month and to shepherd a months-long electoral reform process
hailed the referendum as a "victory of the people against the strong powers of three-quarters of the world."
Many had read the referendum as an outlet for growing anti-establishment
The self-assured Renzi late last year pledged to offer his resignation if the referendum on overhauling a good part of the 1948 Constitution went down to defeat
That was months before Britain's David Cameron had made his ill-fated bet on the referendum on whether the U.K
the referendum was required because the reforms were approved by less than two-thirds of Parliament
turning the referendum into a virtual plebiscite on himself
when he pledged to quit if Italians turned their back on reforms to streamline the Senate and give the central government more powers at the cost of the regions
Some opposition leaders started clamoring for early elections after Renzi's reform measure went down to defeat
"We are ready to vote as soon as possible," Salvini told reporters
Renzi had been hoping to survive the rising populist forces that have gained traction across Europe
Some of Renzi's political opponents were hoping to tap into the populist sentiment that has been gaining ground with the U.K
vote in June to leave the European Union and the U.S
presidential victory last month by billionaire political outsider Donald Trump
A "Yes" vote would have strengthened Renzi's 2 1/2-year-old government
giving it impetus to complete its five-year term and time to prepare for elections in 2018
while a "No" vote favored early elections sometime next year
the risk of political instability in Italy
with bank stocks sinking and borrowing costs on sovereign debt rising
