Another Italian town wants to pay you to move to Italy—$30,000
a charming little hamlet that is known as the “city of green gold,” thanks to the surrounding olive groves
a southern region known for its whitewashed hill towns
lush farmland and pristine Mediterranean coastline
The town will pay people up to 30,000 euros to buy a house and move there
which translates to about $30,000 in today’s dollars
More here: admiring one of Puglia's small towns from afar
You must buy a home and become a resident of Presicce
The dwelling must be abandoned and it must have been built before 1991
And the funds will be split: Part of it will go into buying the home and part can be used for renovations or redecorating
“It is a pity witnessing how our old districts full of history
wonderful architecture and art are slowly emptying.”
But it’s not a bad deal: To give you an idea
a 500-square-foot house in Presicce costs around $25,000
Presicce’s town hall website will be posting additional information and applications in the coming weeks
Presicce was able to come up with the funds for this new scheme
due to a merger with a neighboring town—Acquarica—in 2019
The current population is now around 9,000 people
our wider territory will be blessed with more public funds

Italy has extended its financial incentive program for relocation to small towns. The program now includes nine locations with populations of up to 2,000 people in three regions. The Italian government is offering a substantial sum for moving to these areas, reports Daily Mail.
The fight against depopulation in small towns in Italy continues
There is now an opportunity to receive a 30,000-euro grant for relocating to one of the picturesque villages in three different regions: Calabria
The population of small towns in these regions has steadily declined due to the migration of young Italians who move to large cities or work abroad
Those who meet all three conditions will be eligible to receive 30,000 euros either as a lump sum or in monthly installments
Business options to be created include hotels
The Italian authorities emphasize that small towns represent a true territorial identity
“We want to make demand for jobs meet supply
That’s why we’ve asked villages to tell us what type of professionals they’re missing to attract specific workers
more will follow in the coming years,” said Councillor Gianluca Gallo
there is an opportunity to receive an additional 1,000 euros for each newborn child
the funds must be spent on purchasing or renovating a house
and the recipient must become a permanent resident for at least 18 months
The Academy of Immobility is a travelling school directed by Luigi Presicce
it has moved around various venues in Italy including Lecce
It is an educational project open to all types of students without any distinction of age
of memory and of harmony through exercises that stimulate their minds and their ability to react to given questions
thus a set of exercises aiming to achieve immobility yet which are not immobile in the least
Succeeding in being immobile and in remaining motionless for a prolonged period of time lies at the base of much of Presicce's work

In a recent episode, we looked at places in the US that will pay you to move there
and if you’re up for an international move
your available options expand exponentially
we take a look at your options when it comes to relocation incentives in Italy…
Relocating can come with a host of benefits
ranging from enhanced quality of life to reduced overhead costs – and even substantial tax savings
Most countries across Europe face the dual challenge of rapid urbanization and aging populations
leading to large swathes of the continent’s rural areas becoming ghost towns
In Spain, for example, this phenomenon is known as ‘Empty Spain’, or España Vacía. And around 53% of Spain’s municipalities are considered to be at risk of becoming depopulated
scores of its rural hamlets are marketing themselves as “Zoom Town” destinations
in reference to the popular teleconferencing software
AND they’re sweetening the deal with cash incentives for new permanent residents
The advent of Digital Nomad Visas – especially in Southern Europe – will help make such a move a LOT easier
you can also benefit from a superb range of tax incentives that could bring your effective tax rate down into the single-digit range
NOTE: Sovereign Confidential members have access to a range of deep-dive reports on topics like:
ITALY: The quaint Italian towns of Presicce in Puglia recently announced that they’ll be offering new residents €30,000 ($~32,000) to move there in 2023
You have to put this money towards buying a house there that was built before 1991
You’ll also have to register there as an official
The specifics of the program are still being finalized, and applications will be made available on the local town hall’s website in due course
the town’s officials are also offering financial incentives to encourage population growth
including €1,000 grants for every new baby you have there
ITALY (ISLAND): As the second largest island in the Mediterranean (Sicily is the biggest)
Sardinia packs a punch in terms of sun-drenched island living
And given a sizable €15,000 (~$16,000) relocation grant for new residents who move there
you’ll have to move to a Sardinian municipality with a population of less than 3,000 inhabitants
The grant you receive must be used to buy or renovate a home
the grant cannot exceed 50% of the total cost of the house or renovation – and the government may not always hand over the entire €15,000 sum
recipients must live in their new property full time
and have to register for permanent residency in Sardinia within 18 months of their arrival
Fancy moving to a bucolic Italian hamlet with less than 2,000 residents
the Calabria region – situated on the tip of the “boot” if you look at the map
northeast of Palermo – is offering new residents a relocation grant of up to €28,000 (~$30,000) over a period of three years
That’s about $10,000 per year to help you get settled in
at least nine villages have signed up to participate in the program
ALBIDONA, CALABRIA: Situated about 7 miles inland from the Ionian Sea, and about 11 miles from the mountains of Pollino National Park, Albidona will cater to both beach and mountain lovers. And in case that doesn’t sell it well enough, it’s one of the places you can pick up a property for just €1
CALABRIA: Perched on a rocky cliff and boasting palm trees and river views
The Neto river runs through it for around six miles
and the town offers a showcase of the architectural transition from the Norman period to that of the Byzantine Empire
peace and tranquility sounds like your thing
some T&Cs apply under the Calabria region’s program:
According to the program website
around $755,000 in funding has been made available to support new residents in launching hotels
and looking to kickstart a lifestyle business in small-town Italy
then this could be a nice way to get started…
ABRUZZO REGION: Santo Stefano di Sessanio needs YOU – as long as you’re aged 18-40
and willing to move there for a minimum of five years
Unlike many of the other locations mentioned here
Santo Stefano di Sessanio is not situated in the southern parts of the country
the authorities there will pay new residents a maximum grant of up to €8,000 ($8,632) per year for three years
new residents can apply for a one-time grant of up to €20,000 to start a new business in the area
That’s a maximum total of over $44,000 over three years – which is nothing to be sneezed at…
At Sovereign Man we remain ever optimistic about the future
Let’s look at the upsides in the following scenario:
What if you could pick up a European home for just over a dollar
and only had to spend $20,000 or so to renovate it
Or what if you could pick up a semi-renovated property cheaply
AND get an additional $16,000 in free money to complete the project
How much more money could you save and sock away every single month while living rent-free
And how much fun and adventure could you have while launching a lifestyle business in an idyllic European country location
that’s even before you benefited from the incredible tax incentives in places like Southern Italy…
these types of programs won’t work for everyone
But if you’re yearning for an exciting opportunity in a beautiful location

a picturesque village in the province of Lecce
small Italian towns have tried myriad creative methods to combat depopulation
a town of around 10,500 inhabitants in the southern region of Puglia
is the latest to launch a campaign to boost population numbers
named “Welcome to Presicce-Acquarica,” promises a grant of €30,000 ($30,000) for those who buy a house and register their residency in the town
Presicce-Acquarica – technically the two towns of Presicce and Acquarica del Capo merged into one municipality – lies deep in the heel of the boot of Italy in an area known as Salento
The main square is graced by a white church adorned with swirling
intricate sculptural decoration and the streets are paved in luminous white marble typical of towns in the area
It has been designated as one of Italy's “most beautiful villages” for its extravagant baroque architecture and grand palazzi of historic nobility
Step out of the historic center and you find yourself in miles of olive groves delineated by crooked dry stone walls
The exact details of the scheme are still to be released
The campaign is aimed at individuals or families intending to move their official residency to the Salento town
The scheme requires them to invest in a house
the cost of which will be subsidized by a grant provided by the Municipality of Presicce-Acquarica
The financial aid will be available to cover 50% of the costs of purchasing a house
Around 30% of the town’s housing is eligible for the scheme
To combat its aging population – the town saw 60 births last year compared to 150 deaths – Presicce-Acquarica is also presenting €1,000 ($1,000) for every newborn
the island of Sardinia launched a similar campaign to entice new residents with a €15,000 ($14,900) grant

The small Italian town of Presicce-Acquarica is subsidizing homes to fight its depopulation crisis
Presicce-Acquarica is technically two Italian towns merged into one municipality. The quaint city lies in Salento, deep in the heel of the boot of Italy
There, the streets are paved with marble and an ornate church stands tall in its town square. It has been deemed one of Italy's "most beautiful villages," according to Forbes
the town is only about a 15-minute drive away from the nearest beach
Unfortunately, the town has struggled with an exodus of residents and a dwindling social scene. In order to fight this, Presicce-Acquarica is aiming to lure new residents with generous amounts of cash in a plan similar to one initiated in Sardinia last year

what's known now is that prospective residents interested in owning a house there will have the cost subsidized by the municipality
The financial aid the town is offering will cover 50% of the purchasing costs, including renovations, up to a maximum of $30,000, according to Time Out
Around 30% of the town's housing will be available for new residents
the town is also offering about $1,000 to every household with a newborn in order to offset its aging population

If you, like so many others, are dreaming of a change of scenery right now – maybe somewhere a little warmer, and less stupidly expensive? – then listen up. A dreamy part of southern Italy is setting up a scheme that will see people given a whopping €30,000 (£26,140
The settlement in question is Presicce-Acquarica, and it’s in Salento – the bit on a map that makes up the ‘heel’ to Italy’s ‘boot’
The scheme is part of a huge effort to combat depopulation
which is currently a big problem in lots of rural Italian towns
Presicce-Acquarica is technically two towns – Presicce and Acquarica del Capo – which were merged into one municipality in 2019. And there are plenty of reasons to move here
The towns themselves are marvellously picturesque
featuring stately churches, winding streets and loads of olive trees
glorious coastal watchtowers and incredible food culture – as well as for being one of Italy’s most LGBTQ+-friendly holiday spots
Then you should know that there are more than a few catches to getting that €30,000 from the town hall of Presicce-Acquarica
you’ll need to commit to buying a house in the town and registering it as your official address
You’ll also only be able to put the money towards either buying or renovating the property – and it can only be used to cover 50 percent of your overall costs
In other words, you’ll need to commit to spending at least €30,000 of your own cash on the property. Which, to be fair, still makes it much cheaper than literally anywhere in a city like London or New York
you don’t have to worry about paying the money back
Presicce-Acquarica currently has about 10,500 residents
and its repopulation efforts don’t stop at property subsidies
It’s also currently paying parents in the region €1,000 (£871
Exact details for the scheme in Presicce-Acquarica are yet to be fully confirmed
but we’ll keep this page updated as soon as we find out more

“Welcome to Presicce Acquarica” – this is the name of a soon-to-be-launched campaign by the small town located near the southernmost point of the Italian boot heel

Presicce in Italy's region of Puglia is an exquisite place that has recently entered the game. Some officials have said that people who move to the town and take up residency will be paid 30,000 euros which is roughly $30,000
The houses that are up for sale are mostly properties that have been abandoned by the original owners
They cost around 25,000 euros which means the payment given by officials could be enough for people to buy their own homes and own properties in a picturesque place

It merged with another community in 2019 to create the larger town of Presicce-Acquarica, which has allowed it to tap into more funds.
To qualify for the scheme, buyers have to fork out for a house built before 1991 and agree to move to the town permanently to renovate the property.

Asymina KantorowiczSenior WriterDec 16, 2022, 2:17 PMNov 26, 2022, 12:00 PMIf you've ever dreamt of moving to Italy
a new offer may have you relocating sooner than expected
A town in southern Italy has been dealing with a dwindling population
so it has come up with a creative way to attract more people to live there
The town of Presicce, located in Puglia, will pay you €30,000 (around US$30,000) to purchase a home and live there permanently, according to CNN
It's part of an initiative called “Welcome to Presicce-Acquarica."
According to Forbes
Presicce-Acquarica is technically the two towns of Presicce and Acquarica del Capo that were merged into one municipality
The outlet says the region in southern Italy has been named one of the country's "most beautiful villages" for its incredible baroque architecture and "grand palazzi of historic nobility."
Around 30% of the town’s housing is eligible for the initiative
The website Idealista currently has 75 houses and flats listed for sale in Presicce. We found an older home listed for €38,000 (US$39,500) and what looks like a newly-renovated villa listed for €198,000 (US$206,000)
which means you would be facing a renovation project if you decide to take the offer
"There are many empty homes in the historical centre built before 1991, which we would like to see alive again with new residents," local councillor Alfredo Palese told CNN
According to Time Out
the town of Presicce-Acquarica currently has an estimated 10,500 residents
and the town is reportedly offering other repopulation incentives as well
The outlet says the town is currently paying parents in the region €1,000 (around US$1,050) per newborn baby
This isn't the first time an Italian town has launched a program to entice people to move to the country
In September, the Mediterranean island of Sardinia launched a program that would pay people €15,000 (US$15,600) to live there
Other towns are trying to get more tourists to visit
In October, the town of Friuli-Venezia Giulia
which is in the northeast part of the country
announced it was offering to cover the cost of a train ride to promote sustainable travel
which will grant you free or reduced prices for theme parks
if you're looking for a hand with moving to Italy
it seems like you've got a few options

Another picturesque Italian town has announced it will pay people who move there
in an attempt to boost dwindling population numbers
Presicce, in the Puglia region of Italy
is enticing new residents with the promise of up to €30,000 - although
Those who take up the offer must use the money to buy an empty property and renovate it
Like other towns and villages across Italy
Presicce has numerous abandoned homes in varying states of disrepair
The town is selling these off to new residents for around €25,000
“There are many empty homes in the historical centre built before 1991 which we would like to see alive again with new residents,” local councillor Alfredo Palese told CNN
“We will be offering up to €30,000 to people willing to move here and buy one of these abandoned dwellings
“The total funding will be split in two: it will go partly into buying an old home and partly into restyling it
He added: “It is a pity witnessing how our old districts full of history
While the details are still being ironed out, the plan is to launch the scheme in the next few weeks on the town’s website
the region best known for being the “heel” in the “boot” of Italy
The town isn’t far from rugged coastline and beaches
It’s the latest in a long line of rural Italian communities who’ve sought to attract new inhabitants with cash incentives
following an influx of young people moving away to find work
Many towns have signed up to the €1 homes scheme, whereby outsiders can buy a vacant house for the symbolic price of €1.
Rules differ from town to town, but usually prospective candidates must commit to paying to renovate the home and complete works within a certain timeframe - often three years - and to use it as their primary residence.

Galleria de’ Foscherari presents a new exhibition project that
evoking the masterpiece of James Ensor entitled The entrance of Christ into Brussels in 1899
compares the poetics of Piero Manai (Bologna
1951-1988) and Luigi Presicce (Porto Cesareo 1976)
joined by a research that uses the body as a material for artistic creation and theater for personal introspection
both used as a reference for one of their works the famous painting in which the Belgian master depicted the apotheosis of the painter portrayed himself as Christ surrounded by a creepy crowd of masks inspired by the carnival of Ostend
If the grimaces and the skeletons that fill the composition of Ensor exacerbate the absurdity in a whirl of unbridled painting
in 1980 Manai takes all those grotesque faces isolating and expanding them on fragments of linen paper in an installation of more than 50 drawings entitled Self-Portrait with masks 1899
This catalog of madness vigorously dashed in coal seems to surround and attack the viewer putting him at the center of the parade to show how even the traditional tools of painting can convey an actionism in line with the Central European neo-expressionism of those years
The shape becomes a privileged action field of a creative process that wants to regain the primary and archaic state of the image and to declare at the same time its origin in the art history
which are vehicle of revelation and no longer of concealment become pretexts of self-portraits that explore the human identity through the grimaces produced by the passions to investigate facial expressions in a similar way to the modified polaroid in which the artist expressed his lonely exhibitionism. The emphasis on corporeality in its integrity or breaking monumentalizes suggestions that involve sexual impulses
death or disgust actualizing the topic of the individual as a living person
overturning the idea of disguise usually connected to mystification
uses masks and hermetic symbols as tools of a contemporary mysticism that transforms his paintings and performances into magical ritual actions
In the tableau vivant inspired by Ensor painting that evokes the stoning of St
the artist appears as a shaman voted to self destruction driving a surreal carnival wagon carrying a threatening crowd of characters – obsession
The elegant composition cools the color vertigo of its iconographic source in a solemn choreography where sacred and profane history come together in an enigmatic synthesis that combines stylistic models derived from the Italian Renaissance to suggestions that are rooted in folk traditions of rural culture in Puglia.Manai and Presicce place themselves into the work to embody the fusion of art and life in a total experience where the body acts as a bridge between the contemporary man
his cultural past and nature. Both of them at different times in their careers wanted to pay homage to Joseph Beuys
Diluted and mutilated bodies through which the first sought the original unity of figuration that survives the harshest subtractions give off the same archaic charm of sacrificial scene in which the other interprets the dismembered body pieces as relics and talismans that materialize the complex somnambulisms of his imagination
In The certification of hands Presicce plays a disintegrated idol or demon recalling the episode of the amputation of the fingers from the corpse of Ernesto Che Guevara as evidence of his murder before making his body disappear
blacks angels and secular priests celebrate the mystery of an impossible recognition with the intensity of an hallucination that rejects the dynamics of rational thought to project the viewer into a parallel reality where only the intuition can grasp the symbolic efficacy of visionary apparitions happening in front of his eyes

Sun, sea and…sweet property deals
A picturesque Italian town is offering grants of up to €30,000 (£26,900) to people to move there in an attempt to prevent depopulation
Presicce Acquarica is the latest Italian destination to offer a financial incentive to entice new residents
people who relocate to the village under the scheme will be eligible for a non-repayable grant to help cover the cost of buying —and renovating— a home there
Beneficiaries must buy a property in the village and make it their permanent home
€30,000 is the maximum contribution from a total budget of €150,000
And Presicce Acquarica is a desirable spot. In Puglia, —the heel of Italy’s boot— it is a historic town known for its underground olive mills
Presicce merged with the nearby town of Acquarica in 2019
which has increased its funding to revitalize its old district
With a population of around 10,500 collectively and 5,500 in Presicce
the town has been trying to counter its ageing population in other ways
including paying out a €1,000 (£863) bonus for newborns and launching another initiative to encourage young people to stay in the village
"There are many empty homes in the historical centre built before 1991 which we would like to see alive again with new residents," local councillor Alfredo Palese told CNN
Up to 30 per cent of the housing stock is supposedly eligible for the initiative
which is called Welcome to Presicce Acquarica
properties currently for sale in Presicce range from €18,000 for a detached house in need of major renovation to a 30-room farmhouse in the neighbouring countryside for €1.25 million
and all but seven of 71 currently advertised are under €250,000
Since the initiative was announced and publicised internationally
Google searches for Presicce Acquarica spiked to their highest point in the past 17 years
A Facebook group for the town gained an influx of new members
with people from around the world asking questions about the scheme and local representatives
“You can’t spend all your time replying to everyone
hopping on here and there and risking being imprecise,” wrote councillor Luca Pacella after being tagged several times on Facebook
“I repeat: when the announcement comes out
Precise details of the scheme are still to be released and will be published on the town’s website.
