The use of these means on line 40 will in fact lead to complete electrification of the line

In via Brigata Sassari this overhead line for recharging has already been built

is a wetland of international significance

Now you can bike from the centre of Cagliari to reach the beach or the centre of Quartu Sant’Elena without using a motor vehicle – all while enjoying the spectacular scenery of the park as a backdrop
The EU-funded project built a five-kilometre cycle path to better connect the Molentargius-Saline Regional Park’s internal bicycle routes to existing and future paths located in the nearby cities of Cagliari
it is now easier than ever for citizens to cycle to the park to explore over 1 460 hectares of wetlands
By providing alternative routes and travel options between Cagliari and Quartu
this project encourages the use of sustainable mobility – an essential element of protecting these wetlands
as the cycling paths cross several areas of particular natural value
they are helping to enhance park visitors and commuters’ overall enjoyment. 
To help increase the park’s accessibility and promote sustainable transportation options
this ERDF-funded project built: a 3.8 km cycling path along the Via del Sale and Via is Arenas
two of the main roads connecting the park to neighbouring cities; an internal cycling path in the green area of South Quartu; two new bike-sharing stations
each housing 10 locked terminals; and a bike/pedestrian bridge located at the end of Via Palma
next to the existing Secchi bridge for vehicles. 
the project purchased 15 electric Segways – personal transporters – as an ecological option for those visitors not wishing or unable to cycle
This project is just one component of a larger-scale infrastructure project working to better connect the local communities and
over 8 000 people rented bikes in order to visit the park
Molentargius-Saline Regional Park protects a wetland area which is important to a number of migrating and nesting birds
Being located close to the Mediterranean Sea
the area features both fresh- and salt-water reservoirs and was once mined for its heavy salt deposits. 
the park is home to over 230 bird species – including flamingos
particularly as it is surrounded by a heavily developed metropolitan area
the park features very little infrastructure or facilities.

with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contributing EUR 196 000 through the “Sardinia” Operational Programme for the 2007-2013 programming period

and it must be carried out with latest-generation zero-emission vehicles
The new line connects the centre of Cagliari
which will use the prefential lanes of Via Marconi and Viale Dante and will be operated exclusively by trolleybus
CTM also owns one of the youngest trolleybus fleets in Europe
consisting of 18 Solaris Trollino and 14 Van Hool A 300 T
two-axle vehicles built between 2012 and 2016
which allows the batteries to be progressively recharged under the network and the possibility of running autonomously for at least 20 km
It has thus been possible to return to Poetto in electric mode and the trolleybus service has been restored on Sundays and public holidays
the trolleybuses already equipped with batteries will be used (with the support of two more units to cover the shifts)
and for the occasion will be equipped with a new and attractive white and blue livery
already adopted on the latest generation of electric minibuses
which have been in service for a few months.The line can absolutely be considered as BRT (Bus Rapid Transit)

will reshape its service only on the return route from Quartu to Cagliari
now passing through Quartucciu and Selargius.The new line did not require any additional work and construction sites
and the reduced journey times are certainly competitive with private transport
The mayor of Cagliari and the metropolitan city
is satisfied: «The objective for the metropolitan city is to provide a fast and reliable public service: this line with an eight-minute frequency meets this need
as well as – I would add – allowing many citizens to abandon their private cars and save on fuel costs
