It has been 43 years since Sabaudia last hosted an international rowing event
The athletes enjoyed near perfect conditions with barely a ripple crossing the warm Italian water
As the day progressed the wind built and flitted from tail to cross and back again but never troubled the crews
Cloudless blue skies and warm weather greeted the 24 nations that competed on the first day of the Sabaudia World Rowing Cup
The conditions were near-perfect for those racing early in the schedule
As the day progressed the wind flitted from tail to cross but did not trouble the athletes
The lightweight women’s single scullers were the first to test the water and the win went to the Swiss sculler Sofia Meakin but all six meet again in the A-Final
Not so for the men as only two were allowed to progress directly to the A-Final
That route was taken by Rajko Hvrat and Martino Goretti
Slovenia’s Hvrat rowed through the Hungarian World silver medallist Peter Galambos in the first Heat
and Italy’s Martino Goretti the current World Champion won the second Heat in dominant fashion
It was a good start to the weekend for Rasmussen and Erichsen of Denmark in the women’s pairs event
They put a five second margin into the Croatian Jurkovic sisters who finished second
All six women’s pairs will race in the A-Final
The Turlan brothers were favourites in the first Heat of the men’s pairs
At halfway they trailed the British and the Italians
ultimately the French paddled across the finish in last place
Hometown heroes and Olympic bronze medallists Giovanni Abagnale and Marco Di Costanzo were happy to take the scalp
At Lucerne the Italian duo raced in the bows of the Italian men’s four and finished fourth
Britain’s Tarczy and de Graaf led the middle thousand but eventually succumbed to the Italian sprint
Both crews will fight for the medals in the A-Final
Joining them will be the Croatians and the second British crew
It was no surprise to see the Sinkovic brothers lead from start to finish in the second Heat
Ryan Todhunter and James Vogel of Great Britain put almost ten seconds into the German duo
The Germans came third and will race in Saturday’s repechage
Germany won the first Heat of the women’s double sculls while the two Italian crews focussed on beating each other
It will be a stressful weekend for the Italian scullers as the racing forms an internal selection test for Tokyo
In the other Heat the top spot and direct passage to the A-Final went to the Dutch double who are fresh from their silver medal performance at the Lucerne World Cup
the two Italian crews and the second German double will all race in the repechage
The Polish 2019 World Champion men’s four were kept honest by a tenacious development crew from Great Britain
tracked down the course at 40 strokes per minute yet were unable to break clear of the British who launched a strong sprint
and Poland took the sole A-Final qualification spot by half a length
The other British four was again the fastest non-qualifiers with their second spot finish in the other Heat
Home favourites Italy won with a length and a quarter in hand
The women’s single sculls event has thirteen entries and as many of the top scullers are not in attendance this event is wide open
There were three heats – Pia Greiten of Germany blasted out of the blocks in the first heat with Namibia’s Maike Diekmann in hot pursuit
They led the field until late charge by the French sculler Audrey Feutrie saw move past Diekmann in the final quarter
In the second heat the Dutch and the British battled at the front of the field
The former World Champion of Sophier Souwer whose last World Cup appearance was as a spare in the Dutch four edged it
Another strong British performance followed in the third heat as low rating Lola Anderson secured second place ahead of the Sweden and behind Ukraine
Diana Dymchenko the Ukrainian sculler who is based at Sabaudia will be hoping to maintain her form throughout the competition
There are 22 scullers competing in the men’s single sculls event making it the most contested event of the regatta
A win in the Heat meant direct entry into the A-Final
In the first Heat Poland’s Natan Wegrzycki-Szymczyk still sore from missing Olympic qualification earlier in the season was unable to reel in the young Italian talent
Gennaro di Mauro pleased the local volunteers with his dominant win
Faroe Islander Sverri Nielsen ticked over at rate 30 in the second Heat and was never challenged for the top spot
The third Head saw a razor-sharp performance from Kjetil Borch who overhauled Damir Martin and forced the Croatian into second
It was a German one two in the fourth heat as Zeidler cruised to the finish line ahead of teammate Stephan Riemekasten

Sabaudia has long been a second-home destination for well-to-do Romans
its population swelling from 20,000 to 90,000 every summer
In a town that lives off tourism, Italy’s lifting of lockdown restrictions this week should have brought some relief
But many in Sabaudia complain that the government’s green light to reopen has come too late — and with too many caveats

although exercising on the beach is allowed
With Sabaudia’s beach backed by dunes
it will be difficult to prevent people simply walking onto the sand
when inevitably they fail to get one of the reserved spots
Police have acknowledged that there could be a public order problem
only the rich who can afford beach club membership will be truly free to enjoy their summer holiday

Labirinto explores the architecture seen as a vector for an ideology
The project is a starting point to discuss how the urban architecture influence inhabitants and if a city structured as a symbol of fascist ideology

Popes and Napoleon have all tried to drain
The one who achieve the goal was Benito Mussolini
with the help of the hard work of World War I combatants
the project of foundation of the New Cities (Città nuove) started
The best Italian architects of these times were involved to draw the net of streets on the Pontine plain as on a blank page
They were to arrange the monuments and neighbourhood buildings - following the current of rationalist architecture
adopted by the fascist as the official style of the ideology - of five cities: Littoria

Workers freshening up markings in beach town of Sabaudia painted ‘Sotp’ instead of ‘Stop’ in bold letters
A typo in a road marking has caused amusement among residents of a town near Rome, helping to break the monotony of the coronavirus lockdown.
Workers freshening up markings this week at an intersection on Via Regina Margherita in the beach town of Sabaudia painted “Sotp” instead of “Stop” in bold letters.
A photo of the error was posted by Giada Gervasi, the mayor of Sabaudia, on her Facebook page, inviting ironic comments including suggestions that the typo should be maintained as a tourist attraction.
Gervasi was quick to distance the town hall from the misprint, writing on Facebook that “the company in charge made a mistake” and promising a quick correction. “Sotp will return to Stop,” she wrote. “It’s a small mistake that maybe made you smile!”
Read moreIndeed it did. “This error has made us laugh, we need it right now!” wrote Mara Chiarato beneath the mayor’s post. Some suggested it was perhaps an early April Fools’ Day joke, while others urged the typo to be maintained. “It will attract people … and if it goes viral we’ll have people queueing up to take selfies alongside it,” wrote Chicca Antezza.
Giuseppe Pannone joked that perhaps it wasn’t a mistake and “Sotp” was intended as an acronym for “Se oltrepassi ti puniamo!” (If you cross over we’ll punish you).
The typo was quickly rectified, although Gervasi later had to spring to the defence of the culprit. “Once again no time was wasted in insulting those who, in carrying out their work, made a mistake,” she wrote in another post on Facebook.
Gervasi backed up her message of solidarity with the worker by citing a famous quote by Theodore Roosevelt, the US president between 1901 and 1909: “The only man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything.”
Not all establishments in Lazio accept our four-legged friends: here are some beaches where your dog can enter.
In our region we are lucky: there are several establishments where man’s friends can run and play freely on the beach, with no time limits. Effectively, at free beaches, they can generally walk on a leash very early in the morning and in the evening, after 7 pm. Each municipality and region then has regulations to comply with. Let’s see which establishments allow our pet to have fun together.

In the beautiful landscape of Lake Bracciano we find the free Beach of the Seagulls. Of course, there is no staffed establishment here to monitor, so everyone has to pay attention to their own dog. Since it is a free beach, you need to bring your own umbrella and water. It is reached via a path that runs alongside the Museum of Aeronautics (MUSAM).
Tiziano Ferro is married. The Italian singer and artist, 39, and Victor Allen, 54, from Los Angeles, said 'I do' on Saturday July 13, at a villa in Sabaudia, in the presence of their closest friends, in a super-armored ceremony .
"Life and its unpredictable and wonderful turns. I can't wait to tell you this story of joy and celebration of love,' he wrote on social networks.
The news reported by Vanity Fair and Dagospia is not unexpected. For days, Tiziano Ferro had been giving clues on social networks with mysterious messages like: 'What is the thing I'm looking forward to doing this week? I have two secrets'. One of them was undoubtedly his marriage.
The artist and Victor have been together for three years, according to what Vanity Fair reports, and were married in Los Angeles on June 25. On Saturday, July 13, the civil ceremony in Sabaudia, Italy.
Always very jealous of his private life, Ferro told Vanity Fair: 'I make an exception for Victor. Because with the marriage he becomes part of my family and this is a truth that cannot be kept secret'. The singer's parents were also present at their wedding.
There were no gifts, but only donations to a center for abandoned dogs and to the oncology ward of Latina's hospital. On their rings two different dates, the one of the wedding in Los Angeles and the one of the ceremony in Italy/BalkanWeb.

Famed for its beautiful beach, the town of Sabaudia south of Rome welcomed a new - albeit short-lived - attraction yesterday.
A traffic sign painted on Via Conte Verde read "Sotp" - instead of Stop - triggering hundreds of ironic comments on social media.
The mayor of the seaside town, Giada Gervasi, acknowledged the episode and said the company in charge of the road markings had apologised for its mistake which it would rectify. "Sotp will return to Stop...", she wrote on Facebook.
The company duly fixed the typo but not before a photo of 'Sotp' went viral.
Among the sea of comments were numerous appeals to keep the sign the way it was
Some suggested it could turn into a visitor attraction
others expressed their thanks for giving them a laugh at a time when it was most needed
There was even one bold proposal that the town itself should be inspired to change its name to the more exotic-sounding Sbadaiua

Less than four tenths of a second separated the two crews on the finish line
the Turlan twins of France withdrew for medical reasons

Both the Swiss and Czech pairs will need to up their game in the B-Final if they wish to beat France’s second pair who finished third

That’s all the racing complete. Thanks for tuning in.
Germany win but the Italians do well to keep them honest. Not much more than length in it on the finish line.
With Maximilian Korge, 26, replacing an injured Richard Schmidt the Germans lead the Italians in the two boat men’s eight A-Final.
A Home water win in the women’s single sculls but not for an Italian. Ukraine’s Diana Dymchenko secures the gold medal. It was a strong performance by the Ukrainian who lives and trains in Sabaudia. The Dutch sculler Souwer settles for silver. Lola Anderson is part of Great Britain’s “Project Paris” development team and delivers a promising bronze medal. The German sculler misses the podium by less than 0.2 seconds.
Epic performance from all three scullers at the front of the field as they cross the line with overlap between all of their boats. Kjetil Borch holds on to the gold. Nielsen takes silver and Zeidler has the bronze. Borch is gulping in lungfuls of air – he went deep into the pain cave for that one. Great effort.
This is the best we’ve seen from Kjetil Borch he has gone out hard but refuses to fade. There is so much pressure on him by Sverri and Oliver.
A fantastic final in the men’s single scullers. Norway and Denmark lead the way deep into the final 500 meters. Zeidler will need to turn it on to keep his golden record.
All bar one of the men’s single sculls are Tokyo bound. Expect a big battle in this final race before the Olympics. Can Kjetil Borch, Sverri Nielsen, or Damir Martin break the golden spell of Oliver Zeidler?
The Italian scullers in the quad won in Varese at the 2021 European Championships and continue their habit of winning on home water. They get the gold medal three quarters of a length in front of Olaf Tufte and his Norwegian crewmates. Bronze medal for the Germans.
Germany, Italy, Poland take an early lead.
Receiving their gold medals on the podium Ilse Paulis and Marieke Keijser are super happy with their World Best Time performance. Smiles all round. Meanwhile the men’s quadruple sculls line up on the start line.
In the women’s quadruple sculls Germany take gold. Silver goes to the Italians. And it is a photo finish for the bronze medal with Poland getting on to the podium by just 0.01 seconds.
Ilse Paulis and Marieke Keijser of the Netherlands claim the gold medal in a new World Best Time of 6:43.79. Italy try a new line up owing to injury woes but still claim the silver medal. Bronze for the French.
The lightweight women’s sculls are off. The Dutch are whipping it out of the blocks at nearly 50 strokes a minute. The weather has turned and the women are racing in the rain.
Fast and furious from the leading two crews as the sprint hard to the line. Italy are denied a win on home water. The gold goes to Norway’s Brun and Strandli. It is a big gap back to the second Norwegian crew who take bronze ahead of Algeria.
A humdinger in the lightweight men’s double sculls. Italy and Norway have a grip on the rest of the field but who gets the gold is anyone’s guess.
Fantastico! Italy take gold by a length. Great Britain hurl themselves across the line stroked by Sam Nunn. Bronze medal winners Poland do enough to keep the Dutch at bay.
Italy have taken the lead. Great Britain a canvas down. Then the Polish just keeping in touch and then the Dutch. Deep in the third 500 meters and all crews will be preparing to up the rate as they approach the final stages.
Olympic bronze medallists from Italy are being lead by the development British crew who are cutting their teeth on the international scene with a view to Paris 2024.
The men’s four line up on the starting blocks. Will it be a win for the Polish 2019 World Championships? Not if the local favouraites can help it – Italy has a new line up in their men’s four and would love to get gold on home water.
Victory for the Dutch in the women’s four A-Final. Six second back the Denmark take the silver and then it is Poland who secures the bronze medal in front of the British who miss out on a podium place.
The women’s fours are on the starting blocks.
The Swiss women’s double have paused their warm down to cheer the Swiss men’s double as they sprint to the finish line. But despite the screams of support the Swiss men cannot get past the Polish who win the men’s double. Poland win the gold. Switzerland settle for silver. An awesome final 500 meters from Great Britain gets them the bronze medal ahead of the Dutch and Italian scullers.
In the women’s double sculls the Dutch take the gold. Italy two take silver, and the Germans get bronze.
Women’s double sculls are sprinting hard to the finish line
Sinkovic brothers storm away and cross the finish line with ample clear water on the British silver medallists of Tarczy and de Graaf. Bronze to the second Croatian pair of Patrik and Anton Loncaric. So there will be two sets of Croatian brothers on the podium.
The Sinkovic brothers are showing their class. They take a length lead and look to get clear water before the halfway mark.
Men’s pairs are on the start blocks.
Gold to Denmark. All good confidence booster before they head to Tokyo. It was very tight between Croatia and the second Great Britain crew but the Croatian sisters get the silver medal. Bronze to Redgrave and Dear of Great Britain.
Denmark at 35 strokes a minute are underrating the rest of the field who are at least a length back. The Croatian sisters are currently sitting in second place. All crews are in the last 500 meters.
Green light for the women’s pairs! In the outside lane is the pair from Denmark including London 2012 single sculler silver medallist Fie Udby Erichsen and Rio 2016 bronze medallist Hedvig Rasmussen. They take an early lead.
Josipa and Ivana Jurkovic in the women’s pair will race with black arm bands and have dedicated their performances this weekend to their friend Stipe Trojanović who sadly passed away earlier this year in a traffic accident. Stipe was a 22-year-old Croatian policeman and rowed with the Jurkovic twins at Ošjak Rowing Club in Vela Luka.
Denmark, Great Britain, and Hungary are first, second and third in the men’s single sculls B-Final. Poland could not hold the pace and faded to fourth place. That’s the last B-Final, the rest of the day will be A-Finals and the wind is picking up.
The wind is swinging towards a cross-tail and might become a bit more challenging for the athletes. The B-Final of the men’s single scullers has set off and Bastian Secher is the first to hit the last 500 meters with Poland and Great Britain in hot pursuit.
W1x Swiss sculler rows through Great Britain to win the B-Final
U23s French rowers Louis Chamorand and Teo Rayet win their B-Final and get racing underway
Currently there’s a cool tailwind that will give the rowers a little push down the course. Not as warm here in Sabaudia as it has been in the previous two days and the forecast is for rain later in the day.
The first A-Final will be the women’s pairs and they are scheduled to race at 10:35.

There are many places to see in our region, and in summer we should consider ourselves really lucky: we can reach the sea in a short time. So even though the vacation season is still a while away, don’t be discouraged. In this article we tell you about the most beautiful seaside resorts near Rome. Here’s where you might go this weekend (and don’t forget the sunscreen!).
Gaeta is located a short distance from Sperlonga. Unlike the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea, this municipality has more than 19,000 inhabitants and is inhabited by many people even during the winter months. It is called “the city of 100 churches” because of the many religious buildings in the area. There are seven beaches, but the best known is Serapo beach for its fine sand and proximity to the city.
In Gaeta there is never a dull moment, you can go for long walks on the beach, snorkeling and the aperitifs at sunset. We consider it a suitable place for everyone.
In the municipality of Santa Marinella, another location well known for its splendid waters, we find the Castle of Santa Severa. This is one of the best attractions in the world. And confirming this is Time’s coveted list (World’s Greatest Places). The sandy beach at the Castle is very spacious and makes for a nice walk. There are also establishments on site to reserve sunbed and umbrella. Otherwise, many decide to settle on the free beach.

Sabaudia is a bit of a VIP seaside resort. Many actors and soccer players own their beach houses here. The beach is fine sand and the sea is clean; you can also engage in windsurfing in this windy area. What we like best about Sabaudia is the wilderness that surrounds it. At sunset, we recommend you try the aperitifs at Saporetti (Loc. Paola Tower), very nice.
Also in the province of Latina, we find San Felice Circeo. The village is full of interesting stories and legends; here the sorceress Circe bewitched Ulysses. A short distance from San Felice Beach, you will find the famous Goat Cave. According to legend, in this very cave the sorceress created powerful spells.
In addition to the crystal clear sea and great beaches, we recommend visiting the old town. In the evening, downtown becomes lively: clubs, open boutiques, and lots of young people on the streets. A cinema was also dedicated here to Anna Magnani, as the actress loved this village very much and it is where she was buried.
Near Circeo in the province of Latina is Terracina. This seaside resort is very lively in summer and was awarded the Blue Flag for water and beach quality again this year. An international recognition won eight years ago. It is a place suitable for both families and younger people. Appetizers and other beach activities are often organized. In addition, there are many stores to visit downtown for an afternoon stroll.

Anzio is a popular summer destination for its clear waters and seafood restaurants overlooking the sea
as a town that is inhabited even in winter
A lively place not far from the Castelli Romani
Fondi is another seaside resort that has been awarded a blue flag
Quieter than nearby Sperlonga and Terracina
we recommend it if you want beautiful sea at a good price
accommodations here are cheaper if booked in time

Neptune is nicknamed “the blue coast of the Romans,” here there is also the fantastic island-fortress of Astura Tower to visit

The northern-most beach on our list offers a small strip of white sandy beach with the choice of setting up camp at either the stabilimenti or spiaggia libera
There are two trains per hour leaving from Termini station for S
Marinella station and the journey takes about one hour

restaurants and spaggia libera and it is also known for its magnificent castle
A former chic hotspot of the 1960s and 1970s
Fregene boasts long stretches of sand with both stabilimenti and spiaggia libera
Along the coast there is also a wide selection of family-oriented restaurants and less expensive tavole calde
Rome’s club scene tends to flock to Fregene and nearby Ostia (see below) in the summer months
Although Fregene isn’t the easiest place to reach by public transport
Cotral buses depart from Rome’s Valle Aurelia metro stop (line A) and the journey takes about one hour

Cotral buses run from Rome’s Laurentina metro stop (line B) to Piazza Oberdan in Sabaudia
From here take the shuttle bus which runs up and down the local coastline
Sabaudia is also known for its Mussolini-era architecture
Nearly 100 km south of Rome are the Blue Flag beaches and crystal clear waters of Circeo
Stabilimenti abound but look for the spiaggia libera nearest the port: it definitely merits the mini-trek
