The final day of Club Italia LA28’s stay in Tampa was truly special
together with the University of Tampa baseball team
to help families dispose of the rubble and household goods piled up outside their homes
A gesture promoted by Robert Pennino and the Italian-American community of Tampa
much appreciated by the locals and also by the media
who wanted to be present to witness the beautiful gesture of the players of the two teams involved in the College Series 2024
for an 'internal' game between Italy Blue and Italy White
Italy BlueCornelli 2B; Chacon RF; Cinelli C; Cumbo LF; Annunziata 1B; Wong DH; Volpe CF; Laise SS; Bertoldi 3B; Marciano P
Italy WhiteBarbieri CF; Cimini 2B; Morresi RF; Bocchino DH; Stella C; Gamberini 1B; Bruno LF; Angioi SS; Zazza 3B; Resca DH; Marelli P
and with a rotation that included pitchers Aldegheri
pitching coach of the Reading Fightin Phils
who spent the entire Olympic Camp with the Italian pitchers
closed the day and shared his insight with the team: “What I hope you take home from here more than anything else is the philosophy of work
Never spare yourself: here near us in this area
there are high school kids who wake up at 5 to train and go to school 1 hour and a half away
There are no excuses for not committing yourself.”
The experience of the training period between Arizona and Florida is exactly what the Coordinator of the development of the Italian teams
expected for Club Italia: “It is the beginning of a journey that helps us to get to know professional realities to which we must aspire and also get in touch with Italian boys from different countries who are very eager to wear the blue jersey
to understand also from their enthusiasm the value of what we represent."He continued: "The work with the staff
both the permanent one and the high-level specialists who joined us to give their contribution to the National team has been truly excellent by everyone
I want to say a word in particular for Felice
which he transfers with a perfect way of presenting himself
I would say humble in his approach to others
He often deals with boys of this age in singles and doubles A and we have all seen and learned from him several things that we did not know."
after all the work done with the Club Italia LA28 players will create a platform that everyone can access to upload videos and get feedback on the development of their individual programs
The same goes for pitchers: the work started with Cundari will continue on the web
both in terms of analysis and on specific points to improve in the off-season
there is a scheduled meeting in Collecchio on November 3rd that will also involve those who were not in Surprise
FIBS would to thank the entire Italian-American baseball community at the University of Tampa
Robert Pennino and UTampa head coach Joe Urso
all of whom really went out of their way to give Team Italy impeccable hospitality
because the compliments for their behavior that Kansas City Royals Director of Arizona Minor League Operations Nick Leto sent us from the operators of the Surprise facility are not something that happens every time and they also give an idea of the value of the group we have.”

The Young Stars U-14 team have just returned from a two-day trip to Sicily where they played a friendly match against their hockey counterparts from San Pietro Clarenza
This international game was a first for most of the Young Stars players
a positive start considering that they are relatively newcomers
having been playing hockey for just over a year
The trip was made possible thanks to the Floriana club's long-standing ties with CUS Catania and hosts San Pietro Clarenza
Young Stars are conducting summer hockey training sessions for young beginners

Team Italy switch-pitcher Pat Venditte agreed to a one-year major league contract with the San Francisco Giants during the recent MLB winter meetings in Las Vegas
Nebraska native has spent the last 11 years in professional baseball trying to find a home on the major league level
Having pitched in 56 big league games between sporadic stints with the Oakland A’s in 2015
the Toronto Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners in 2016
and last year with World Series runner-up Los Angeles Dodgers
Pat Venditte has not been given the luxury of demonstrating his special talent in MLB during the course of an entire season
2019 may be the year for the proud Italian American to show the world he belongs in Major League Baseball
San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi has a vision to place Pat Venditte in the bullpen on a permanent basis as a lefty specialist
Owning a 2-2 record with a 4.45 ERA during his 64.2 innings of relief in MLB
the ambidextrous pitcher has been very successful throwing against left-handed hitters by limiting them to a .186 batting average (21-for-113)
Farhan Zaidi knows what Pat Venditte is capable of doing since he worked in the front offices of the same franchises the switch-pitcher threw for
The current San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations used to be the Los Angeles Dodgers general manager and before that spent time in the Oakland A’s organization
Looking to find the right pieces for the Giants bullpen
Farhan Zaidi has now given Pat Venditte the best chance to have major league impact
Pat Venditte made the most of his opportunities with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018
he posted an impressive 2.57 ERA in 14 innings of work
Most remarkable was the fact that during his final 10 games with the Dodgers Pat Venditte threw 9.2-scoreless innings and allowed just three hits and two walks
Despite his success on the major league level
Pat Venditte fell victim to roster numbers as the Los Angeles Dodgers designated him for assignment and later released him in order to trade for Atlanta Braves pitcher Adam McCreery
the San Francisco Giants 40 man-roster is now at 38 players
Farhan Zaidi not only values Pat Venditte because of his unique matchup versatility against hitters out of the bullpen but also for the maximum roster versatility he provides to the team since he has one minor league option remaining
Let's wish Team Italy's Pat Venditte the best in 2019
With Club Italia LA28 official sponsor San Francisco Italian Athletic Club Foundation’s Paul Giusto and FIBS Ambassador to Canada Flavio Volpe in attendance
Team Italy manager Mike Piazza eloquently conveyed a call to action for Club Italia LA28 Olympic prospects
And the reason why we called it the mission is because there's a purpose for doing this
I hope you all know why we're here. And why you, in particular, are here is because we have a couple of big events in the next few years that we think are extremely important to Italian baseball. Obviously, the 2026 World Baseball Classic
We're playing the United States on national TV in our bracket as well as Great Britain and Mexico
So it's going to be difficult and then after that is the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028
So that's what this Club Italia LA28 project is all about
a group of guys that we feel not only will contribute to the World Baseball Classic team
which we have to first qualify for so it's not going to be easy
we hope all of you will be with us at the World Baseball Classic
We know that's probably not possible and we hope all of you will be with us for the Olympics and we know it's not possible
Gianmarco Faraone and everyone else on our dedicated staff
They understand the enormity of what we're trying to do
but we also want you to take care of yourself
I don't want to hear about guys going out and getting in trouble
So have a good time and when you leave from here too
I never stopped learning till the day I retired
And the reason why I was a good player is because I wrote things down
I could do some things better and there were some things I couldn't do better
Know what you can do and what you can't do and keep your strengths
but work on your weaknesses and that's what the coaches are here for
If you are a pitcher then work on building your pitching repertoire
You can work on playing the ball off of the wall better
take advantage of these trips and these opportunities
and figure out what you need to work on because we can't do everything

After an extraordinary career as a player for the Azzurri
Greta Cecchetti is ready for a new adventure as a coach
closing a circle that began years ago with her first call-ups to the Under 13 selection and continued with successes and satisfactions on the Senior National Team
Cecchetti was named as the pitching coach of Italian Softball
supporting new head coach Craig Montvidas in the team's next challenges
"Receiving this opportunity is a great honor and privilege,” said Cecchetti
who will also be responsible for the pitchers' development program on the National Team
“When President Mazzieri called me to offer me the role
I was immediately enthusiastic and accepted without hesitation
I am very happy and can't wait to start working
it was a great opportunity to meet and see again many people who are part of our movement
During the three-day Italian Baseball and Softball convention
Cecchetti and Montvidas met a selection of athletes from the National Team
as well as the staff of the youth national teams and the teams that will participate in the next Serie A1
they illustrated the operational plans for future competitions
“Craig and I have a very similar approach: we like to work methodically and with organization
which makes our job easier,” Cecchetti said
and we feel like we have been working together for a long time
which makes everything even more fun (laughs
The meeting in Rimini was important not only to introduce ourselves but also to explain our goals and the project for the coming years
We want to ensure excellent communication between all parties involved and create a solid structure to best support both the national team staff and the clubs.”
who has worn the jersey of the Senior National Team in over 90 games
this is not an absolute debut in the role of pitching coach
she has successfully held the same position in Bollate
“In 2024 I had already started this double path as a player and coach
and I must say that I really like it,” she said
“Sometimes I get more excited about coaching young pitchers than about coaching myself
Coaching athletes with whom I have shared so much in my career and my current teammates in Bollate is very stimulating
It allows me to be close to them not only from a technical point of view
We must never forget that behind every player there is a person
and their well-being always comes before performance on the field.”
Cecchetti's new chapter as pitching coach of Italian Softball has just begun
but I believe that everyone's goal should be to grow the movement
starting from the basics to reach the elite,” she said
“Every step forward will only be possible by working together with dedication and passion

ROME – After Week 5 of the Italian Baseball League
five of the league’s eight teams have won at least half or more of their games
and 7-8 Parma is just one game below the .500 mark
Surely Grosseto and Novara have contributed to this factor; together these two teams account for 44% of all the games lost in the IBL
having lost 25 of the 57 total games that have been played
so at least one of these teams will add some games under the “w” column
Grosseto picked up two precious wins against Bologna
The Bolognesi had been in 2nd place coming into the series
so the series victory for Grosseto may have the alarm sounding with a little less associated panic
San Marino couldn’t pull off a sweep of feisty Godo
The Knights prevented the brooms from being taken out of the closet
beating San Marino 3-2 in the third and final game of their series
San Marino has only dropped three games on the year and sits over the rest of the league
At a game above .500 at this point in the season
Godo management and players have to be thinking that the playoffs may not be an unreasonable objective
and a statement like this something would have been faced with extreme ridicule last season and even coming into this season
which lands the Pirates in 2nd place in the standing
outscoring their Piedmont hosts 34-8 over the three game set
Rimini will be facing competition at the other end of the spectrum in Week 6
when the Pirates battle it out with crosstown rival
Nettuno sent Parma under the .500 mark by taking two of their three games in Parma
but Nettuno swept the Saturday double-header
