Home » #MyPOVSorrento » The Oasi In Città Park: A Hidden Gem in Sant’Agnello
Greenery is everywhere in the Sorrentine Peninsula
The trees that line the sidewalks and the gardens on balconies add to the peninsula’s aesthetic
It is a gorgeous place that plant lovers like myself
a park hides in the middle of Sant’Agnello
This park is the “Oasi in Città” (Oasis in the City)
This place is home to around 6,000 plants and 70 tree species
Almost all these plants are native to the peninsula
The park is on a 4,000-square-meter plot of land over an underground parking garage
The plants and few animals thrive in this environment and are constantly tended to
It is a peaceful place where anyone can sit and enjoy nature
A leaf tunnel at the entrance of this peaceful place sparks my and others’ curiosity to explore it
All outside sounds fade as the garden transports its guests
This world has the sounds of birds chirping and lizards scurrying along the ground
I have never been in such a bright green place before
The map divides the park into numbered sections from one to seventeen
These seventeen locations make up the entirety of the park
Exploring these locations is a pleasant stroll on gravel paths
The path forks and winds around my feet as I explore
I end up off the main paths to see more of the park
scattered along these paths are sitting areas
Guests can sit and soak in the tranquility of this place
All of them have a scenic view covered in green
bugs do not take too kindly to people sitting
so it is important to remember to bring bug spray
the main feature of this park is a beautiful pond with fish in it
It showcases the different plants that are native and not native to Italy
The rest of the park is a testament to this
There is a combination of native and non-native plant species marked by signs
These signs also give insightful facts to guests who have come to explore the park
The signs have a small panda bear with a WWF logo at the bottom
It leaves everyone wondering what it is and who created this place
A quick Google search shows that the panda logo with WWF marks the brand of the World Wildlife Fund
The WWF helps local communities conserve the natural resources they depend on
and protect and restore species and their habitats
The creators of this tranquil park are the local government and the World Wildlife Fund’s Italian Chapter
this park is one of many in a campaign by the Italian Chapter called “ReNature Italy“
ReNature Italy aims to restore and protect fragmented or destroyed habitats and species
The campaign aims to do this in 1 million square meters around Italy
“Oasi in Città” is one of these restored and protected habitats
this project is between protecting and restoring
Protection works to protect and improve established habitats
the protection’s goal is to contribute to the preservation of 30% of land and sea areas by 2023
The restoration side aims to restore destroyed and fragmented habitats
the main goal of restoration is to re-establish at least 15% of Italian territory and share 10% of agricultural land with nature
The ReNature Italy campaign has started a delicate process of creating more protected habitats
Procter and Gamble and Etifor joined this initiative by spreading awareness and retrieving certificates for WWF Italy to continue its work
a part of me knows I will always miss the beauty of this place
But the other part of me knows it will always stand out as a reason to protect and restore nature
This park is a great example of how the campaign is restoring and protecting habitats in Italy
The ReNature Italy campaign is a step to help these habitats and species thrive
there is a network of over 100 oases in land and marine protected areas
These areas are conservation priority areas at a national and global level
“Oasi in Città” is one of these areas
This park is an important step in preserving the environment and the species that live in it
It serves as a reminder for everyone to aid in conservation efforts so the habitats and the species in them can thrive

First, there was the life-size Amon-Ra St. Brown headstand cake made at a Rochester bakery
Now, the famous touchdown celebration pose by the Detroit Lions' Pro Bowl wide receiver is burning up social media again
chilling in the form of a snow sculpture about 25 miles northeast in Harrison Township
who's known for his at-home snow sculptures
said this one "took off way faster than normal" with shares and likes once he shared a photo of the St
Brown snow sculpture to his social media accounts
then it was kind of crazy from then," the 44-year-old broker and owner of J Michael Realty in St
Clair Shores told the Free Press on Monday
less than 48 hours after he made the creation in the front yard with the help of his family
Usually his snow sculptures — which have included a giraffe about 7 feet tall (it made the news in January 2023) and Simba from "The Lion King" as well as other Disney characters — are "just something fun for the neighbors."
More: Even during a playoff bye week for the team, the spirit of longtime Lions fans roars on
Agnello said there have been more than a half-million likes of the snow sculpture photo on Instagram
where it was shared by the NFL and ESPN's SportsCenter
Brown's headstand touchdown celebration during the Green Bay Packers game Nov
He said Patrick called him afterward and asked him to make a St
"I don't usually take requests from adults," Agnello said Monday
adding that snow for his sculptures has "gotta be perfect." His perfect conditions
with a little bit of sun and "absolutely dumped on."
He said they got about 2 inches of snow and it was 30 degrees
but the sun was beating down and the snow was "just barely good enough to pack."
They scooped up snow from neighbors' driveways and brought it to him
it started to cool down and his daughters got a 5-gallon bucket and heated snow next to a wall heater in the garage for a higher moisture content
Agnello said they piled up the snow into a form and put a spike in the ground so the sculpture won't collapse
I start chiseling away to make that unnatural look of standing on its head," Agnello said
His hands and whatever is the closest thing in the garage
Agnello said he used a mud knife for drywall and an ax
he hit it with some spray paint for the cleats and arms
free-handed the numbers and "made a quick stencil" for the letters in St
He scraped away at the snow to make the lines "really crisp."
He said the snow sculpture may not last until game day
If the area gets more snow — and perfect conditions — he may rebuild around the framework and repaint
Since the snow sculpture photo hit social media
Agnello said it has been fun watching people come by and take pictures
Agnello said he has been contacted by St. Brown's podcast, which shared the photo on its Twitter account stating: "Snow sculpture of the year." But Agnello said he hasn't had a phone conversation with St
which includes drawing on an Etch A Sketch
"My dad would have been an Instagram superstar if it was around in the '80s," Agnello said
"He's the most ridiculously creative person there is
He was doing snow creations like this 40 years ago when we were just little kids."
He said his dad encouraged him that "whatever's around you
make something cool of it." Agnello said after high school and in college he did some lettering and logos on gymnasium floors
Agnello said he likes to play sports and watch his kids play sports
and he has been watching the Lions the last couple of years
"I've just been sucked into the excitement," he said
"All my friends and family members are fans

Home » Sant’Agnello
another country awaits us for a warm welcome: we are talking about Sant’Agnello
We can describe its history as recent enough if we take into account the year it obtained the autonomy from Sorrento
the farmhouses around here have centuries-old history and only due to the wilfulness of the inhabitants of these ancient villages
Sant’Agnello gained its independence at the time
History of the struggle for independence is well described by the composition of the municipal coat of arms: five towers representing the five districts that compose the town: Angri
The motto that accompanies the coat of arms
“Post Nubila Phoebus” (After the clouds
the Sun) wisely indicates the patriotic spirit and the struggle for independence of the Santanellese (that’s the name of this people) during the pre-unification times in Italy
this town is the only one bearing the name of its patron saint
we are pleased to quote a popular saying related to this occasion: “In Sant’Aniello
nu passo ‘e pecuriello” (In Sant’Agnello
indicating the slow and progressive lengthening of the hours of light during the day
Today we know that the solstice is conventionally set for December 21
this ancient peasant saying testifies the need
to mark the phases of the year and it is evidence for a time that precedes the Gregorian calendar revolution
occurred in the last quarter of the sixteenth century
Sant’Agnello certainly is a perfect compromise for those who want to have a relaxing and peaceful stay without giving up the convenience of having Sorrento just a few minutes away by car or
it offers the opportunity of enjoying relaxing baths by the sea and taking part in events and festivals where you can taste typical local products
The tranquillity of the upper area of Sant’Agnello allows the visitor to admire the surrounding nature characterized by the typical Sorrento vegetable gardens and walks on foot in the heart of the Angri district – the ancient historic centre – is an indispensable experience for the eyes and mind
It is a unique sensation to walk in the labyrinth of narrow streets in the district and
admire the tuff and piperno portals of the ancient buildings
giving the visitors the impression of a magically crystallized time
how wonderful to see the horizon and then be able to look out onto the splendid terrace overlooking the sea
How wonderful to admire the tophaceous coast all around with ecstatic eyes and
it’s an experience that warms the heart

which under his guidance received the prestigious three Michelin stars
This achievement not only recognized the culinary excellence of Quattro Passi but also brought the accolade back to Southern Italy after years of absence
Mellino's culinary philosophy is based on the exaltation of local ingredients
Dishes such as Linguine alla Nerano and Trasparenze di seppia exemplify his approach
skillfully balancing tradition and creativity to offer a gastronomic experience that is both familiar and surprisingly new

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – A teenager from Grosse Pointe is being hailed as a hero after helping rescue a woman from a car that was submerged in Lake St
It happened late Tuesday (July 23) morning at Lake Front Park in St. Clair Shores near 9 Mile Road
and then a car goes in the water,” John Agnello
When Agnello and the other good Samaritan got to the car, they realized the door was stuck and went for the window.
“After, we convinced (the driver) to get out of the window of the car and brought her to shore,” Agnello said.
The driver said there were others in the car, but when Agnello went back to check, he said no one else was in the vehicle.
The driver was taken to the hospital and is expected to be ok.
Agnello has a few scrapes and bruises but was cleared by paramedics on the scene.
The community is now hailing him as a hero.
“Everyone’s been saying that, I really appreciate that,” Agnello said.
St. Clair Shores police said the crash is under investigation.

The About Sorrento Photo Contest reaches its fifth edition
it has once again witnessed the participation of numerous amateur and professional photographers
The chosen theme was “Life in the Sorrentine Peninsula“
12 photos have been selected—two for each municipality of the peninsula—to be featured in the calendar and exhibited
This year, we have received support from the Sorrento Municipality, which has included our initiative in the official events of the “M’illumino d’inverno” Christmas program
We also have the moral sponsorship of the Campania Region and the Municipalities of Massa Lubrense, Meta, Piano di Sorrento, Sant’Agnello and Vico Equense
A special thanks to all contest participants who have contributed to enhancing the Sorrentine Peninsula with their images
Let’s discover together the photos from the #aboutsorrento2024
The calendar opens with a beautiful photo by Vincenzo Pane
Sorrento’s inlaid wood is a source of prestige for this city
involving the creation of decorations with pieces of wood of various colors and shapes
The shepherd also represents the flow of life on the Sorrentine Peninsula, a life that seems to have stood still on the slopes of Mount Faito in Vico Equense
With this shot Salvatore De Stefano represents for us the month of February
Easter in the Sorrento Peninsula is rich in rituals and traditions, with the striking processions of hooded figures dominating the Holy Week
Annalisa Mazzarella captures this in her shot
expressed in the production of spun paste cheeses like fior di latte
Representing the month of April is Sara Russo‘s shot
Nature has always been a defining element of life for everyone
including taking a refreshing walk on Mount Faito in Vico Equense
we are transported to a bygone era when embroidery and handkerchiefs were a strength of this area
It’s so wonderful today witnessing some women keeping this tradition alive
The Sorrento area is rich in fishing villages where fishermen keep their traditions alive
Marina di Cassano stands out for its charm
made even more evident by the nets spread out in the sun
Cristiano Zelli‘s shot captures the atmosphere and colors
The characteristic wooden establishments at Marina Piccola in Sorrento
suspended over the crystal-clear waters of the coast
offer comfort and the caress of the wind on the skin
The photo is by Rossella Marino and fully represents a sunny day in August
September is the month of the grape harvest, and Giuseppe Armellino‘s photo shows the grape stomping
stomping was done barefoot and for the children it was a festive day
Sorrento walnuts are an emblem of the typical products of the peninsula
the fruits are ready to be handpicked by farmers
This shot by Chiara Russo
couldn’t miss for the #aboutsorrento2024 calendar
In this photo by Claudio D’Esposito
which is an ancient tradition and a festive moment
Expert hands of farmers shaking the branches and baskets full of green and black fruits are visible
we have chosen Lauro Castellano‘s photo depicting the lighting of the bonfire in honour of Santa Lucia in Meta
a beloved saint and tradition in several municipalities of the peninsula
These are the 12 photos representing Life in the Sorrentine Peninsula
They will be exhibited in a show at the San Francesco Cloister in Sorrento from January 1 to 15

we wish everyone a happy summer and to all of you fathers
The first five unmistakable notes of the famous Italian song “Torna Surriento” immediately conjure up images of the beautiful azure blue waters of the Golfo di Napoli
It is sun-kissed and framed by the romantic city of Naples
and cities which roll off the Italian tongue like music; Torre del Greco
All culminating at the enchanting city of Sorrento
Sorrento truly should be your gateway to all things “Amalfitana”
Naples is the beating heart of Italia meridionale
Disregard the naysayers and spend a full day
I suggest the aliscafi-traghetti from Sorrento
Have the taxi driver from the port drop you off at the Cattedrale di San Gennaro
slowly walk back to the Centro Storico but
make sure you visit the remarkable “Cristo Velato” at the Museo Cappella Sansevero
Explore Naples Sotto Terra to see the original city buried under the modern bustling metropolis
Have a pizza and beer at L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele
Get lost walking along “Spaccanapoli,” the street
reminiscent of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan
the Teatro di San Carlo (where Caruso sang)
you are a stone’s throw from the Piazza del Plebiscito and Palazzo Reale
Marinella tie store is my favorite part of a full day in Naples
the perfect place to eat in an outdoor ristorante while enjoying the view of Vesuvius and the Golfo di Napoli that is mozzafiato
Take the required side trip to the Isle of Capri
Try to stay an evening or two because Capri by night is unhurried
you just have to see this place to fully understand
catch the very first aliscafi-traghetti from Sorrento
Make sure you make arrangements to rent a smaller boat with a captain for circling the island
and will allow you to enjoy a front row seat to the famous Faraglioni rock formation
Take the ski lift from Anacapri for a view that will give you a true appreciation of the Sorrentine coastline.
Spend a day in the beach resort of Positano
Get lost in its alleyways and staircases and “shop till you drop.” It is possible to take the aliscafi- traghetti from Sorrento
or if you want to experience the hairpin turns famous in the entire world
Just listen carefully for the unseen bus blasting its horn as you approach the next blind corner
You can even stop at the fruit vendor’s stand and try a granita
Eat at the Ristorante Tre Sorelle which is situated right on the beach
For a very special side trip from Positano
taxi or take the 30-minute bus ride directly up to the tiny village of Nocelle where you can have lunch with Positano merely a speck below you
The town is situated on the footpath of the gods
known as the “Sentieri degli Dei.” Reminiscent of the paths uniting the Cinque Terre
the trailway runs the entire Amalfi Coast and is only for the physically fit looking for a really good workout with unparalleled vistas.
Combine a full day side trip to the cities of Amalfi and Ravello
Lunch at the Hotel Cimbrone and visit its garden and the spectacular Terrazzo dell’Infinito
Wear your comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk the steps
and make sure to visit a stationery store for handmade paper products
Ask at the tourist office to enjoy a brief boat ride from the small port of Amalfi to one of many restaurants hidden on the coastline and reachable only by boat
take a side trip to Pompeii and visit the ruins of the city literally buried alive by the Vesuvian earthquake of 79 A.D
I strongly suggest a guided tour of Pompeii to make the day worthwhile
Explore the smaller towns of Massa Lubrense
without the tourist crowds found in Sorrento
Plan out a day-long walking tour to include treks down to Punta Campanella and up to San Costanzo
visit the Marina Del Cantone and eat on the beach at Cantuccio Ristorante
Roam and get lost in the streets of Sorrento behind the Piazza Tasso
Visit the Franciscan church and cloister where you will often witness a wedding ceremony and view the charming statue of St
Francis of Assissi with its beautiful prayer recited on the base imploring God to protect all the creatures of the earth
Eat in the patio garden of the Antica Trattoria or the Foreigners Club (Circolo dei Forestieri)
where you will enjoy the same view as the guests of the five-star Excelsior Vittoria right next door
only with drinks at less than half the price

Brown's upside down touchdown celebration has been recreated in a varietey of ways lately
Ontario paid homage to the touchdown celebration that occurred this season on the road at Lambeu Field against the Green Bay Packers
Over the weekend, Lions fans became enamored and mesmerized by a snow sculpture that a fan created outside of his home in Harrison Township
Real estate agent Jamison Agnello has been known to create some unique sculptures in the winter months outside of his home
According to MLive
"Agnello and his family built the 7 foot tall St
January 11 to reflect his upside down touchdown pose celebration during the November 3rd
Agnello credited coach Dan Campbell and the roster for their success the last couple of season
“These last couple of years, just watching coach Dan Campbell get these guys so excited and playing beyond their limits or just exceeding what people expected
several residents have stopped by the home to snap a photograph of the detailed and creative sculpture
“I never thought I would have done a football player out front," Agnello said
"The type of stuff I do are Disney characters or animals
but there have been a lot of others already stopping over for a look.”

A Rochester, Michigan bakery made news recently when it created a life-size cake depicting the headstand touchdown celebration Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown did in Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers. This coming week St. Brown is making a public appearance there

Agnew is a real estate agent for J Michael Realty in Silver Shores
but in his free time in likes to create snow art
"Whenever we have the right conditions, I try to do something like this,” Agnello told MLive
“If I can squeeze this in after work and get out there with the family
so on Saturday Agnello and his family went out and built a seven-foot tall snow sculpture of St
Brown's touchdown celebration from back in November
We had great sunshine that was heating the snow up just a little bit so it would pack
We actually had to heat some of the snow in the garage so it would pack better.”
Agnello told MLive he isn't even really much of a sports watcher
but he has taken notice of what Dan Campbell and the Lions are doing
just watching coach Dan Campbell get these guys so excited and playing beyond their limits or just exceeding what people expected
it’s just amazing and it’s infectious"
Of course people have stopped by to visit the St
to a level Agnello didn't necessarily expect
"I never thought I would have done a football player out front"

An Italian television commentator has apologised for describing the presence of a lineswoman as “disgusting” and “a joke” at a regional match
“It is disgusting to see a woman as a match official in a league where clubs spend hundreds of thousands of euros,” he said. “It is a joke for the federation to do such a thing, it’s disgraceful on a football field.”
Vessicchio reiterated his criticism in a tweet after the match.
“I personally think that women refereeing in football is wrong for many reasons, so I confirm my thoughts,” he said.
“I was wrong, I did something stupid,” he said in an interview with CRC radio. “I expressed myself badly... the broadcast was live and I could not take back what I said.”
He said his criticism was aimed at the federation and the system.
“I immediately noticed that I had said nonsense and will pay the consequences.”
There was no immediate comment from the broadcaster CanaleCinqueTv.
Agropoli, who won 2-0, issued a “message of solidarity” for Moccia.
“The club firmly believes in the value of women, including those present in the world of football, be they assistant referees, coaches and players,” said its president Domenico Cerruti on the club website.
The incident happened on the same weekend that Juventus Women played at the club’s Allianz Arena for the first time in front of a 39,000 crowd, by far the biggest attendance for a women’s match in Italy.
