"The retreat of the 75th Army Corps of the III Reich shattered the truce agreed between the Partisan Command and the German Commands: there were forty-eight victims among partisans and civilians"
The massacre of Santhià and nearby towns on 29 April 1945 painfully marked those territories
in the most difficult days for the Liberation
This is stated by the President of the Republic
in a message sent to the mayor of the municipality of Santhià
destined to end the following week with the surrender of the Nazi troops and their fascist allies
The retreat toward Germany saw the German columns
And so it was in Santhià and in the nearby towns
where the massacre of April 29 painfully marked those territories
in the most difficult days for the Liberation,” continues the Head of State
"The retreat of the 75th Army Corps of the Third Reich shattered the truce agreed between the Partisan Command and the German Commands: forty-eight were the victims
of Nazi violence in Santhià and in the nearby farmhouses between April 29 and May 1945
Only the marked mediation ability of the Provost
prevented the price paid in terms of human lives from being even higher
The Republic has awarded the population of Santhià the Bronze Medal for Military Valor
underlining "the sad and painful privilege of suffering the last German reprisals when the flag of freedom was already flying in Piedmont and Lombardy"
witnesses of the path towards freedom and democracy
may the feelings of the most intense participation and solidarity reach"

Journal of Health, Population and Nutrition is calling for submissions to our Collection on Micronutrients in child health
their dietary adequacy in developing countries. Deficiencies of selected micronutrients
and women of childbearing age living in low- and middle-income countries
A recent estimate reported that the global prevalence of deficiency in at least one of three micronutrients is 56% among preschool-aged children
and 69% among non-pregnant women of reproductive age
equivalent to 372 million preschool-aged children and 1·2 billion non-pregnant women of reproductive age
These deficiencies are linked to various health and socio-economic consequences such as birth defects
They also increase the risk of non-communicable diseases like diabetes and heart problems
These human and economic costs affect countries at all development levels

This collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 2 & 3: Zero hunger & Good health and well-being
their dietary adequacy in developing countries. Insufficient micronutrient intake due to poor quality and quantity of diet is primarily responsible for this deficiency
both the density and bioavailability of micronutrients in the diet are important for achieving optimal micronutrient status
New and innovative actions are necessary to ensure equitable access to nutritious
and affordable diets that are micronutrient rich
particularly for women and young children globally
Three major food system approaches for the control of micronutrient malnutrition are dietary improvement
including horticulture intervention to increase production and consumption of micronutrient-rich foods
and supplementation of specific micronutrients
These are the most sustainable strategies to increase micronutrient status of the population
Global public health and disease control measures are also necessary
the success of these programs depends on strong and targeted social and behavioral change communication interventions integrated with the food system approaches
Knowledge of the population's dietary micronutrient intake and effective intervention strategies for specific vulnerable groups are critical to inform the selection and design of proper strategies to fight micronutrient malnutrition
This Special Collection aims to address micronutrient malnutrition by providing cutting-edge scientific evidence
identifying unresolved problems and challenges

Educating the public on the early detection of cancer can be crucial in prevention and treatment
social and governance (ESG) programmes to raise funds to sustain its services
One such programme is JSM-Taqa Charity Golf Tournament
The third edition of the invitational will be held on March 8 at Kota Permai Golf & Country Club
funds generated by the tournament will go towards providing human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines to B40
“There used to be a HPV immunisation programme under the Health Ministry for government and private schools
hundreds of thousands of female students were unable to receive their vaccinations
which is a concern for an increased risk of cervical cancer,” said NCSM president and medical director Datuk Dr Saunthari Somasundaram
“There are many other minorities across Malaysia who are unable to access HPV vaccines
“We are trying to make a difference by preventing cancer from happening
or at least be able to identify it at its early stages
“Many people do not know that HPV can be eradicated and prevented,” she added
“We are trying to spread awareness but to reach these marginalised groups
we need funds and support in terms of resources
“Fear of the unknown can cause a patient to delay seeking treatment for cervical cancer
leading to the disease reaching a dangerous stage,” said Jahanath Muthusamy
NCSM Sustainability & Development ambassador and RHB Insurance Bhd chairman
the risk could have been mitigated had the disease been detected earlier
“People can be reluctant when it comes to accepting that they have cancer and may delay seeking support

He said NCSM educated the public on the benefits of early detection as well as available support and services

A tribute to the resistance and victims of Nazi violence in Santhià
Italy was at a crucial moment in its history
Liberation from the Nazi-Fascist regime was now upon us
brought with it a trail of violence and atrocities
which took place between 29 April and 1 May 1945
represents one of the darkest chapters of that period
profoundly marking the collective memory of the community
The message from the President of the Republic
These tragic events not only marked the end of an era
but also highlighted the courage and determination of a population that opposed oppression
were fundamental in avoiding an even greater number of victims
solidarity and compassion can make a difference
In recognition of the sacrifice of the population
the Republic awarded Santhià the Bronze Medal of Military Valor
This honor underlines not only the pain suffered
but also the value of resistance and the fight for freedom
the community gathers to commemorate the victims
keeping alive the memory of those who paid the price of freedom
These events are not only a tribute to the past
but a reminder of the responsibility to preserve the values of democracy and justice
