The 2012 Parade of Homes design awards have a sense of familiarity. Just as in the 2011 Parade of Homes, in 2012 Neal Communities won the most best-overall awards, which were divided into 16 house and five condo price categories. In 2011, Neal won four "best-overall" awards, and did it again this year in three house categories and one condominium category. The lowest priced homes were in Category 1, the most expensive houses in Category 16. The Home Builders Association of Sarasota-Manatee established the categories to reduce confusion among tour-goers who in the past saw one price, commonly a "base price," published in the newspaper for the judging, and then another quoted on-site for the same model. The latter price often includes the price of a premium lot and optional features or upgrades. Other winners this year: Medallion Homes, with three best-overall awards; Todd Johnston Homes, Gibraltar Homes, Taylor Morrison and Arthur Rutenberg Homes/Nelson Homes with two each; and Minto Communities, London Bay Homes, Allegra Construction, John Cannon Homes, Lee Wetherington Homes and Arthur Rutenberg Homes/Sam Rodgers Properties with one each. Lee Wetherington Homes' Sarezzo II model in Country Club East at Lakewood Ranch was judged the greenest house in the Parade, which ends Sunday.
