According to Garibay, this includes the City of Duncanville Flag, a Key to the City, a personalized street sign, a book on the history of Duncanville and the official proclamation decreeing Monday, March 21, 2016 as Sister City Day in Duncanville “It is important to understand the different cultures and people from around the world We need to recognize how other governments operate differently from ours,” said Duncanville Mayor David Green in regard to the sister city relationship we are always looking for innovative ways to grow We are grateful for our relationship with Monasterolo di Savigliano They are great people and would encourage anyone that has an opportunity to visit this wonderful place.” Monasterolo di Savigliano originated from its castle that was built in 1241 Currently the castle is located in the town square and serves as the city’s municipal building “Having a Sister City abroad provides our community as well as communities from different parts of the world an opportunity to learn about each other’s cultures and best practices,” Garibay concluded According to www.sistercities.org long-term partnership between two communities in two countries or state relationship is officially recognized after the highest elected or appointed official from both communities sign off on an agreement The program was founded by President Dwight D Italy — Sara Curtis will be among Italy's youngest athletes at the Paris Olympics but the teenage swimming sensation is a confident figure unconcerned about reactions to her biracial background whose performances in the pool have led to comparisons with former Olympic and world champion Federica Pellegrini was raised by an Italian father and Nigerian mother in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy where race ethnicity and identity are key political battlegrounds In a country now led by the far-right government of Giorgia Meloni racist abuse of sportspeople is a long-standing problem a four-time gold medal winner at the European junior championships tells AFP she is unflustered by being a rare black face in her sport as I've never had anything like that (racist abuse) happen to me," Curtis says if I were to ever meet someone who saw what I am as a problem there is this element regarding Black athletes Curtis views as laughable the likes of Roberto Vannacci an Italian Army general who said in a bestselling book The World Upside Down that volleyball star Paola Egonu has features that "do not represent Italian-ness" Despite being the subject of three separate investigations — including one for allegedly inciting racial hatred — Vannacci was named last month as a candidate for June's European Parliament elections for Italy's hard-right League party it makes you think that we've been a bit left behind the times (in Italy)," said Curtis what an athlete does is independent of their skin color Those comments don't affect me and they won't ever affect me." non-profit organization to help grant wishes for children in need of assistance of any kind Bianca's Kids -- created in honor of Savigliano's niece Bianca Yodice who was struck by a car and killed instantly -- has granted wishes to more than 12,000 kids with help from fund raisers and donations from individuals and companies that just want to see children who are struggling turn their tears to smiles The one wish Savigliano has had a problem granting is the wish of the organization's supporters who long to be present when the kids' wishes are granted But the latest project will allow supporters to be present when wishes are granted "Granted," a web series featuring Bianca's Kids making children's wishes come true debuted recently on YouTube.com and allows viewers to see just what happens when a kids dream comes true "The web series is great because it allows us to provide supporters a front row seat at the wishes we grant," Savigliano said The first episode of "Granted" features members of the Williamstown High School Braves football team along with 4-year-old Anthony Tartamosa who has youth epilepsy and experiences around 30 seizures a day who lost his father but maintained honor roll grades and played varsity football as a freshman Each of these wish recipients traveled to the NovaCare Complex in Philadelphia to attend Eagles training camp The Williamstown High School Braves lost teammate Darius Boyer just as the team was beginning to prepare for their senior season "The team was selected to come with Bianca's Kids because not only have they lost a friend and teammate but because of the way the have handled the situation with such integrity and comradery," Savigliano said in the episode MORE: Weeki Wachee Mermaids return to Camden's Adventure Aquarium who accompanied the team to Eagles training camp "Not a day goes by we don't think about Darius in our prayers and in our moment when we come together as a team," Fucetola said We're trying to do things right." Savigliano said the goal of Bianca's Kids is to bring joy to a few kids whose stories of struggle differ but whose wishes were all the same -- to meet their NFL idols Savigliano said she was first contacted by a production company from Los Angeles two years ago about developing a reality series based on Bianca's Kids That idea turned into a web series that will allow supporters to witness wishes being granted and allow production companies and networks to see what Bianca's Kids has to offer we felt this was the best way to get more bang for our buck," she said "Nothing compares to seeing what it's actually like giving these kids their dreams come true; when we turn tears into smiles." Savigliano said she and Bianca's Kids hope to continue making one episode of "Granted" per month "None of this would be possible without John Rifici a local kid who just graduated from film school," she said and edited all the footage voluntarily for Bianca's Kids "Without him there would be no series no opportunity for a television show," she said "A national show for a non-profit is the equivalent of a homeless person winning the PowerBall." So while the filming is exciting and sharing the stories with the public is rewarding Savigliano said the mission of Bianca's Kids is still the same the gift is just being given the chance to smile again "For our wish recipients we can't change their struggles but we an make them feel like the most important people in the world." "Granted" can be seen on YouTube.com by searching for Bianca's Kids, or at www.grantedshow.com Kelly Roncace may be reached at kroncace@njadvancemedia.com. Follow her on Twitter @kellyroncace. But one step away from direct salvation. The final rush begins, the salvation sprint and the coach chooses a cycling metaphor to describe what awaits his Geetit starting from this penultimate day of the A3 men's volleyball championship: it starts with Belluno, then it will be the turn of the away match in Acqui, before the salvation clash with Garlasco and the away match on the field of the league leaders Mantova. The schedule is complicated, but the rediscovered Geetit can compete with everyone: "Our focus is on Belluno, a tough opponent, but I am convinced that by batting well and with the confidence shown in the last few days we can compete. We must and can score points with everyone". Three are needed to continue the climb and the pursuit of salvation, hoping for a misstep by Brugherio in Cagliari that would allow the rossoblù to climb to the fifth-last place which is worth direct salvation and reabsorb Sarroch in the brawl, since the Sardinians will observe the rest day. Having returned from Cagliari on Sunday evening and observed a day of rest, Geetit had only one training session to prepare for the match: therefore, Listanskis and Aprile are unlikely to start as starters, as they are not at their best due to knee and back problems, but they will be available if called upon. Geetit needs another feat to crown the comeback to safety. The other races: Garlasco-Savigliano, Mantua-Motta di Livenza, Cus Cagliari-Brugherio, Salsomaggiore-Acqui Terme, San Donà di Piave-Mirandola. Rest: Sarroch. The ranking: Mantua 52; San Donà di Piave 44; Belluno 39; Motta di Livenza 37; Sarroch 33; Brugherio 27; Geetit Bologna 26; Garlasco 24; Mirandola 22; Salsomaggiore 18. A delegation of Duncanville travelers and friends are planning a trip to Italy in June They will enjoy an event-packed visit to their Sister City The trip marks the 26th anniversary of the Sister City relationship and cultural exchange program between these two small cities over 5,000 miles apart Delegates visiting Monasterolo di Savigliano will depart on June 12 and return June 24. While in Italy, they will stay in the homes of local host families where they are treated “like family.” They will be taken on tours of local businesses and schools and honored with special receptions and events a longtime supporter (along with husband Fred Ciarochi) of the Sister City program “The sister city concept is unique for a city as small sized as the Duncanville area and it shows the multicultural reach of our citizens The world is getting smaller and smaller as we expand our oneness with each other She noted that “Other sister cities in Texas are larger Sandi Ciarochi lived and worked in Duncanville as a dietitian and psychotherapist for 40 years before moving to DeSoto with her husband, a retired endocrinologist. She served on a number of Duncanville civic boards including the Sign Board when the signage code was being revamped Sandi is still active in several Duncanville clubs and the couple still attend church services there Their three children graduated from Duncanville HS and their family hosted three exchange students from Germany Sandi says they have been “active in the sister city program since 1999 and have hosted many young people and families from Monasterola Our home was on two acres so we were able to host the entire group at our home for meals and community meet and greets over the years We’ve made many lifelong friendships.” The Sister City relationship between the two small towns—Duncanville in North Texas and Monasterolo di Savigliano in Italy, started in 1994/1995 with the friendship of Drs. Nancy and Cecil Woods, then dentists in Duncanville, and Dario Crosetto then State Senator Jane Nelson became involved in further cementing the relationship Duncanville Mayor Ed Purcell welcomed an informal delegation led by Sindico Antonio Prochietto on their visit to Duncanville A proclamation was issued in Monasterolo in July 1997 recognizing an Act of Friendship between the two cities Then in July 1998 a formal ceremony was held in Monasterolo with Duncanville Mayor Glenn Repp Monasterolo is located in the province of Cuneo in the Piedmont region of Italy The town has a total area of 5.76 square miles a group of 39 delegates from Monasterolo visited Duncanville and a formal ratification ceremony was held at City Hall Local dignitaries included the City Council and city staff there have been many back and forth visits to the Sister Cities Duncanville Mayor Glenn Repp and Mayor David Green were both heavily involved in maintaining the relationship and Sindico Georgio Albertoni also nourished the relationship 2016 Sindico Marco Cavaglià visited with Mayor David Green to reaffirm the sister city relationship 2016 a room in the Southeast tower of the Monasterolo Castle (their City Hall) was dedicated to Duncanville 2017 the Duncanville City Council created the Duncanville Sister City Commission as an ad-hoc committee created for the purpose of facilitating the continued sister-city relationship David Green says as Duncanville Mayor Pro Tem In 2004 he visited the Sister City several more times Green is still involved on the Sister City committee but said he doesn’t plan to take the 2023 trip and on a tour of the suites at AT&T Stadium They were all placed in the homes of our local host families.” In Sept. of 2019 a 30-member delegation from Monasterolo visited Duncanville, where they were welcomed by Mayor Barry Gordon and hosted by local families Visits to the Sister Cities were held every year The trips are now planned every two years because of the expense involved in hosting and airfare Over 300 delegates from each city have experienced the special friendship of the two cities and economic presence in the international community The 2023 Duncanville Sister City Commission members are Fred and Sandi Ciarochi and Duncanville Chamber President Steve Martin There’s still time for local residents interested in joining the cultural exchange trip to apply but the group size is usually limited to 30 because of tour bus sizes and host family availabilities A $500 deposit is required to hold your reservation An information meeting iw scheduled for March 6 at 7 p.m Travel Agent Jean Kibler is available to answer any questions about air travel to Italy She can be reached at jkibler@tbycampbell.com Sister City committee members Sandi Ciarichi or Stella Moten are also available to answer questions about reservations at srciarichi@sbcglobal.net who was a delegate for the 2018 visit to Monastolero said “I highly recommend the trip from my experience It was very affordable because there was no hotel cost excursions /restaurants were partially sponsored accommodations in a family home was a big concern and I made friends that continue to this day Our daily schedule was a different fun adventure learning about the local culture (so different yet much commonality) I was humbled/amazed by the natural beauty in the region and the congeniality of folks encountered One of my most memorable trips away from tourist track or work-related travel.” Sandi says the NY consolidator who works with Jean Kibler is holding air seats for the delegates at a decent price since airlines have had to make a lot of adjustments this past year The best way to purchase tickets is to call Jean to reserve your airline tickets The group is expected to arrive around the afternoon of June 13 at the Turin Airport the delegates leave on June 12 but arrive in Turin on the 13th “The most exciting addition to this visit is a side trip to Florence and a possible visit to the Mediterranean Sea,” Sandi said “Our host city is working very hard on the itinerary There will be a lot of sharing of experiences and friendships.” Alstom’s And in the wake of 12-year-old Clayton resident Autumn Pasquale's tragic murder last month Long decided to memorialize by her doing something big He decided to make a donation big enough to supply all of the Christmas gifts for one local family “We think every child should have a Christmas,” Long said “If a family doesn’t have the means it should be provided somehow We always want to try and help out as much as we can.” So Savigliano began searching for the family in need and she found an East Greenwich Township woman with three small children who while working as much as possible and struggling to make ends meet took the time to help in Autumn’s search and reach out to the foundation to thank them for helping in Autumn’s case She had a connection with me and Autumn and she reached Savigliano used Long’s donation to purchase more than 40 gifts for the three children “It was one of the best experiences of my life She was really concerned how she was going to pay for Christmas gifts,” she said “We’re just happy we can make some people happy,” Long added Contact Rebecca Forand at rforand@southjerseymediacom Contact the South Jersey Times at 856-845-3300 or at company that manages infrastructure and services on the Italian rail network celebrated the 25th anniversary of Pendolino at Milan's Central Station in Italy two Pendolino models were presented; the ETR 401 the first prototype produced in 1974 at Alstom's Savigliano factory in Italy and the ETR 450 the first model to enter commercial service in 1988 on the Milan to Rome line managing director of Alstom Transport Italy offered the original patent of the first model to the FS Foundation represented by Mauro Morretti Pendolino is designed to run at up to 250 km/h on both high-speed and conventional lines and there are around 500 trains sold worldwide Pendolino is certified to operate in 13 countries (including cross-border journeys) Its success rests on its modularity and flexibility Pendolino can be fully customized from interior layout to the number of cars (three to 11) allowing all passengers to travel comfortably thanks to its catering facilities and areas for children wide corridors and gangways offering optimal accessibility and comfort and large panoramic windows allowing passengers to benefit from natural light and enjoy the scenery Pendolino can be operated under extreme climate conditions (up to 45° and -45°C) which enables the train to tilt by up to 8 degrees and still run at 250 km/h allowing it to travel 30 to 35 percent faster than conventional trains Pendolino is mainly produced at Alstom's Savigliano factory in Italy Its first entry into commercial service dates from 1988 with a total of 492 Pendolino trains sold worldwide — including 65 in Italy — representing 85 percent in exports The Savigliano factory is currently executing contracts for PKP (Poland) and SBB (Switzerland) Alstom and NTV have signed a contract for the purchase of four Pendolino trains and related maintenance services The contract was recently signed in Rome by Andrea Faragalli It also includes the extension of maintenance services for NTV’s entire fleet of Pendolino trains from 20 to 30 years NTV thus leverages two options included in a previous contract signed with Alstom in October 2015 for the purchase of eight Pendolinos high-speed trains and associated maintenance The first trains are currently under construction in Savigliano (CN) and are scheduled to be delivered in late 2017 and will be ready to enter service in early 2018 The four new trains will include the same features and technical specifications as the eight Pendolinos previously ordered the 7-car trains will be 187 meters long and can accommodate around 480 passengers The front end with its futuristic lines is designed to improve crash protection and enhance aerodynamics The train is fully compatible with the very latest 2014 TSI regulations established by the European Union The train is designed to be environmentally friendly in addition to the existing fleet of 25 AGVs will bring up the NTV fleet to a total of 37 Avelia trains This will allow the private Italian operator to expand its current network and respond to an increasing demand for new routes and higher frequencies NTV passed the 9-million-passenger milestone in 2015 and is on track to reach 10 million in 2016 "We are proud to be taking this next step with Alstom our trusted historical partner," said Andrea Faragalli "The expansion of the fleet to include 37 trains is part of our project for industrial renewal begun last year thanks to its excellent performance on both high-speed and conventional lines We want to increase the presence of high-speed services in the country and thanks to these four additional trains we will serve new destinations and strengthen existing routes such as Milano-Napoli."  The site of Savigliano (CN) is already working on the design and manufacturing of the train in collaboration with Sesto San Giovanni (MI) for traction systems and Bologna for signalling systems The 30-year maintenance of the Pendolino trains for NTV will be performed in Alstom’s depot in Nola (NA) already in charge of maintenance for AGV.Italo About us | Advertise with us | Contact us Posted: 30 November 2011 | | No comments yet Alstom has unveiled the latest high-speed Pendolino trains at its Savigliano plant in Italy… The AGV.italo and the Pendolino for Virgin Trains in Savigliano / Alstom Transport Alstom unveiled the latest high-speed Pendolino trains at its Savigliano plant in Italy due to be delivered to UK rail operator Virgin Trains in the next few weeks The company also took the wraps off its first very high-speed AGV.italo trains soon to be delivered to new Italian rail operator Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (NTV) Virgin Trains has been running services on Britain’s West Coast Main Line since 1997 and has come to set the standard among train companies in the private sector NTV is preparing to launch its services in Italy following recent deregulation and is Europe’s first privately owned operator of very high-speed trains The two companies both chose Alstom as their industrial and technical partner to launch train services in their domestic market Virgin Trains currently operates 53 Pendolino trains in the UK designed and built by Alstom at its Savigliano site and maintained through its UK service centres three new trains and 62 more carriages will be added to the Virgin fleet The fleet has covered 175 million kilometres to date and last year carried over 28 million passengers NTV placed an order with Alstom for 25 brand new very high-speed AGV trains in 2008 which are due to enter service in early 2012 on the Turin-Salerno route (via Rome and Naples) and Venice-Rome line The order involves a number of Alstom Transport manufacturing sites with 17 trains built at the La Rochelle site in France and eight being manufactured in Savigliano the Bologna site—which specialises in signalling—is handling ERTMS/SMCT and the Sesto San Giovanni plant recalled the experience that Alstom has gained through 30 years in the sector of high and very high-speed trains « The unique position that Alstom holds on the global market is a result of its product offering as well as the knowledge of different markets and the needs of our customers and also the capacity to provide maintenance of our trains during their whole life cycle » Giuseppe Sciarrone emphasized « the huge innovation which is the introduction of competition on the very high-speed network and the challenge of a new train is awaited with great interest and will be studied carefully in other countries Meeting such a challenge in such a short time frame would not have been possible without the enormous experience in high speed and the technological reliability of Alstom who has produced these ultra modern trains.” Tony Collins added : « Our customer service success at Virgin Trains over the last 14 years has been heavily dependent on the relationship with our key partners Alstom has consistently gone beyond the call of duty to help us achieve the performance that has attracted record customer numbers and customer satisfaction scores We are grateful for that support and partnership The additional Pendolino trains and carriages will enable us to add thousands of extra seats to our services which is great news for passengers With sales of €5.6 billion in 2010-2011 and a workforce of 25,000 people Alstom Transport is the underwent a substantial reorganisation in 1995 under the aegis of the country's Ministry of Transport and Communications Finland’s rail administration underwent a substantial reorganisation in 1995 under the aegis of the country’s Ministry of Transport and Communications maintenance and development and for rail safety RHK is funded partly through budget allocations from central government funds and partly from charges imposed on operators for use of the rail network Finnish freight and passenger train services are the responsibility of VR or VR Group (VR-Yhtymä) The Vali 2012 project aims to push rail’s market share of travel in Finland up from an already impressive 60% of internal long-distance travel It envisaged a transport system consisting of a number of tiers with the high-speed S220 Pendolino as the flagship providing regular services between major cities These cities are concentrated in the south of the country and the establishment of the Pendolino was to have a dramatic impact on journey times between these centres the Pendolino network is linked with other large centres of population by IC (Inter-City) and express trains formed of electric locomotives and air-conditioned coaches These undertake journeys primarily into the much less densely populated north of the country where the rail infrastructure has traditionally been much less heavily used had already benefited from a rolling programme of improvements in the years leading up to the introduction of the Pendolino trains This comprised track improvements to accommodate maximum axle weights of 25t for freight trains along with allowing conventional passenger trains to operate at up to 160km/h (100mph) because of their lower axle weights and higher specifications Pendolinos are able to operate at up to their maximum 220km/h over improved tracks One of the biggest steps taken to improve safety was the removal of level crossings and replacement with bridges or underpasses The installation of extensive fencing to prevent unauthorised access to tracks used by high-speed trains June 2003 marked the start of 200km/h running between Kerava and Tampere The Pendolino network scheduled from 2007 includes: The Pendolino S220 represents the third generation of the Italian-designed and developed variant of tilting train An electric multiple unit offering low axle loading the S220 was developed by Fiat (later Alstom) Ferroviaria It was an adaptation of the ETR 460 design as used in Italy for use in Finland by that country’s Oy Transtech (Talgo) VR’s Pendolino fleet now consists of 18 sets This company was involved with the Finnish trains from the design phase ensuring the trains and their complex tilting and control mechanisms would cope with the much harsher climate found closer to the Arctic Circle than such trains had previously operated The trains’ bodies and mechanical equipment underwent preliminary preparations and manufacturing at Fiat’s Savigliano manufacturing base being transported to Finland for final fitting-out at Oy Transtech’s factory at Oulu in the north of the country Bodies are of largely modular construction to keep axle weights to a minimum while adhering to stringent safety standards one contains the high voltage electrical equipment which picks up the 25kV 50Hz electric current from the overhead wires and traction transformer which turns that current into the power for the train and its internal systems The tilting capability comes from the special bogie design The helical primary and secondary suspension is considered superior to pneumatic systems in its reliability and the ride quality originally giving a total capacity of 264 passengers with two for wheelchair-bound users (later increased to a total of 309) Internal facilities provided on Pendolinos offer standards not before seen on Finnish rolling stock They include an office compartment containing telephones fax machines and overhead projectors for business class passengers Information monitors in each coach give details of the train’s progress and of onward connections signalling on the Helsinki-Turku route was upgraded at the same time as the track improvements This has involved renewal of the multiple-aspect colour light signalling The Pendolino fleet is the backbone of the improvements contained in the Vali 2012 project which is bringing progressive enhancements reaching extensively across Finland’s transport infrastructure steps were being taken to extend the network of local buses operating from stations on the Helsinki-Turku routes The Pendolino trains faced some reliability issues due to technical problems They will undergo an extensive maintenance cycle between 2012 and 2014 which includes changes in the couplers to improve the train’s performance Buses and minibuses bring the benefits of Vali 2012 into outlying areas linking them directly with local or central business and population centres where residents can join the high-speed network The most important railway project in Finland for over two decades the 63km (39 miles) Kerava to Lahti direct high-speed line opened in September 2006 becoming incorporated into the Pendolino network it will be part of a high-speed Helsinki-St Petersburg service Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page.
