But in the final Conegliano won 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-19) and so the Venetians – who played their fourth final of the tournament in the last five editions – obtained their third success and also their fifth trophy of the season after having won the championship, Italian Cup, Italian Super Cup and Club World Cup. Savino del Bene Scandicci are within touching distance of fourth place in the Regular Season standings and a direct ticket to the Playoffs quarterfinals of the Italian Women’s League
after overtaking Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri Sunday
With setter Ofelia Malinov conducting a perfect game to earn the MVP award and Magdalena Stysiak contributing a match high of 14 points
Scandicci shut out Delta Despar Trentino 3-0 (25-15
25-15) and reached 45 points in the standings of the Regular Season
with Alexandra Fratti and Kaja Grobelna scoring 24 points each
Chieri had picked up two points on the road at Trento with a thrilling 3-2 (15-25
But on Saturday at home Chieri failed to stop defending champions and table leaders Imoco Volley Conegliano and fell 3-1 (25-23
31-29) – despite the visitors resting several of their regular starters ahead of their European Champions League obligations this week
with libero Monica de Gennaro named MVP of the game and Lucille Gicquel scoring a match high of 23 points
Chieri could have forced the game into a tie-break
but failed to convert their sole set point at 28-27 in the fourth
They completed their Regular Season on 44 points – one short of Scandicci
who also have a game in hand (postponed from earlier in the season)
It was Conegliano’s 51st victory on the trot across all seasons and competitions
as they maintained a perfect record in the current Italian League and wrapped up the Regular Season with the maximum possible 72 points from 24 matches
Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio could overtake Scandicci this week

BACKGROUND AND EX: Fresh ex in the Gialloblù ranks is Zhu Ting
the Chinese player in the last two seasons on Scandicci’s strength; Marina Lubian also played in Tuscany before wearing the Panthers’ jersey
as did Isabelle Haak in her first two seasons in Italy
for three seasons (2019/22) on the strength of Prosecco DOC Imoco
Scandicci coach Marco Gaspari was the Panthers’ head coach from 2012 to 2014
Bottom of the table Banca Valsabbina Millenium Brescia took Savino Del Bene Scandicci all the way Sunday evening in the Italian Women’s League
leaving the Florence side hanging by a thread as the race for fourth place in the Regular Season standings and a direct ticket to the quarterfinals comes to a head
was key to Scandicci’s eventual 3-2 (25-14
as Magdalena Stysiak contributed 18 points
But the match high of 19 came from Brescia’s Lea Cvetnic
Brescia themselves were desperate for the points
trying to catch up with Bartoccini Fortinfissi Perugia and exit the relegation
The one point they picked up on Sunday means they’re still two away from Perugia
with both teams still having two matches remaining in the Regular Season
with just two matches left to play in the Regular Season
means that Scandicci have allowed Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri to catch up at 42 points in the standings
Scandicci are ahead just on wins – 14 to 13 – for fourth place
Chieri themselves were on the road on Sunday
but came away from the PalaAgneli with full points after their 3-1 (25-18
who came in off the bench in the first set and went on to pick up the match MVP award after emerging her side’s best scorer with 17 points – though the match high was 25 by Bergamo’s Juliann Faucette
who came on off the bench during the second set
led Imoco Volley Conegliano to an emphatic 3-0 (25-19
25-18) sweep of Igor Gorgonzola Novara at home in the PalaVerde in the derby between the two top-ranked teams in the standings – although this is mostly for bragging rights
as the top two positions in the Regular Season had already been decided
Paola Egonu was top scorer of the game on 16 points for Conegliano
including an impressive 60% (12/20) in attack
Conegliano remain undefeated after 23 matches in the League and have now extended their winning streak to 49 across all competitions and seasons

On the court from the start for Prosecco DOC Imoco is coach Santarelli’s sextet with captain Asia Wolosz at setter
for the first time as ex against Scandicci
Savino’s Savino of old Gialloblù acquaintance Marco Gaspari lines up with Ognjenovic in diagonal with Olympian Antropova
Sparks immediately fly on court with Savino del Bene attacking the Panthers (1-3)
but there is an immediate reaction from De Gennaro and her teammates who with wall
defense and a great Haak (one of the exes of the match) take the lead (6-4)
but with great show between a super save by De Gennaro
an ace by Zhu Ting (another ex) and a fast by Chirichella
Isabelle Haak feels the air of big events and shoots consistently over the wall (10-7) making the Palaverde explode
Gabi also gets into the game on offense with two broadsides that unhinge the defense
then gets on the wall on Antropova for 14-10
proved to be a rank team and held their own by staying threatening in their wake (16-13)
The Gabi-Haak pair (17 points between them in the set) is relentless
but Scandicci holds on thanks to missiles from Antropova (7 points) and ties the score at 17 with Graziani
Again the Brazilian star with a mixture of class and power drags the Panthers
today in “rosé” version for the first time this year
Gabi is “on fire,” omnipresent
attacks and walls again and Prosecco DOC Imoco flies away (24-19)
before closing 25-20 with the 9th personal point in the fantastic first set of the Brazilian
Prosecco DOC Imoco becomes irresistible again
then Moki De Gennaro invents for Haak’s winning shot
Zhu goes to the sky to wall and there is the first Gioblù shoulder (9-5)
The classy plays of the two sextets put on a show
Scandicci tries to come back under with Herbots’ grit (18-16)
then Graziani seals the -1 and the set opens again
6/7 in attack!) walls and Palaverde explodes for the Panthers’ wire-to-wire success: 25-23 and it’s 2-0
Spectacle also in the third set with great balance until the middle phase
when a couple of Conegliano’s blunders and the drive of the Herbots-Antropova duo allow the Tuscans to put their heads ahead (14-16)
Scandicci also makes mistakes and it is tied again
while coach Gaspari tries to move his pawns with Carol and Ruddins
The confrontation is heated with the teams going at each other exchanging valuable shots
Savino time out to the applause of the Palaverde full as an egg
On 24-23 Antropova (26 points at the end) nullifies the first match point
then Ognjenovic’s hitting error gives the illusion
but the Panthers’ error brings Scandicci back to a tie (25-25)
who gave the Prosecco DOC Imoco a chance again, but again the Italian Antropova kept the Tuscans alive
Chirichella doesn’t miss a beat (27-26)
Tension skyrockets and an extra effort is needed to close
2 walls) with an incredible shot after De Gennaro’s defense
30-28 and another 3-0 for the Panthers comes
After the seventh win in as many league games
it’s a change of scenery and from Thursday night it will be Champions League time with the first match for the European champions at home with Mladost Zagreb at 8:30 pm
the Brazilian star who scored 19 points and 2 walls with shots that drove the crowd wild
After the last feat that closed the match she was honored by Bausch+Lomb
In Lastrigiana It is worth noting that Gabriele Grani has left the technical area. After two positive seasons, the sporting director has decided not to continue his relationship with President Vignolini's club. Work is underway on a replacement. At home Signa, the club should reconfirm coach Stefano Scardigli; the reconfirmation of sports director Alessio Nunziati is a given.
What's new atForearm with the new DSVO Alessandro Bartoli taking over from Aleandro Aiazzi, while Claudio Targetti leaves the Fucecchio bench.
First news also at Pontassieve who is separating from coach Marco Guidi while reconfirming sports director Mattia Duradoni. In Settignano Enrico Corradi will be the new sporting director and Leonardo Zecchi will take Piero Carovani's place on the bench.

A report published by WWD suggests fashion brand Hugo Boss plans to close its Scandicci development site on the outskirts of Florence
and has initiated procedures to terminate employment for 21 employees

The statement explains the reorganisation is taking place to live up to changing customer demand and market requirements
It states: “Hugo Boss has recently adjusted its global strategy in 2021
reaching from production to marketing and sales
the company has decided to reorganise the processes and workflows in its shoes and accessories business
This has in turn resulted in the decision to close the Scandicci development site (note: Scandicci is not a production or manufacturing site).”
The statement points out that to minimise the impact for the 21 employees affected as much as possible
the company is in close exchange with the employees as well as with the relevant trade unions to explore all possible options for the respective employees
The talks are currently continuing.”

‘L’Atelier Maroquinerie will help us realise our ambition to develop the most desirable leather goods and accessories in the world,’ says Francesca Bellettini
The vast new 28,700 sq m space in Scandicci
Florence sees Saint Laurent invest in a new generation of craftspeople
whose work straddles technical innovation and traditional know-how
According to Saint Laurent CEO Francesca Bellettini
Saint Laurent’s vast new workshop just outside of Florence is built on a simple premise: ‘to develop the most desirable leather goods in the world’.
The gleaming L’Atelier Maroquinerie – ‘maroquinerie’ is a French term for the art of leather craft – certainly seems fit for the task
the space contains a panoply of specialist equipment which marries technical innovation – one of the main aims of the space is to develop new techniques – with the traditional know-how of the region (the outskirts of Florence contain several such workshops for other major fashion houses).
The workshop will largely focus not on producing the Saint Laurent accessories available for sale; rather
it is deemed by the house as a ‘research and development’ facility
whereby the experienced artisans will work on new ways of using the material in ‘highly specialised’ prototypes and samples
They will also produce a small number of one-off accessories for the house’s most loyal clients
Each product created will be the pinnacle of the maroquinerie medium – perhaps a useful comparison is the art of haute couture dressmaking
‘Bringing together the development of both accessories and leather goods
the atelier will be an environment for sharing expertise
generating ideas and encouraging experimentation,’ Bellettini continues
it will also be the house’s go-to for repair and after-sales support
offering a ’repair and refresh service’ for European clients
L’Atelier Maroquinerie will also provide an educational element for a new generation of craftspeople
training both newly hired employees and offering courses for those already working in the atelier
Both school and atelier are housed in what was formerly known as the ‘Palazzo delle Finanze’
renovating several buildings on the sit which were previously unused for decades
The regeneration is completed with areas of green space
’We are very glad to have relocated and expanded the atelier in Scandicci
as we have long since recognised the artisanal and managerial skills of the people here and the heritage of the region for outstanding craftsmanship,’ concludes Bellettini
’L’Atelier Maroquinerie will combine generations of knowledge with new levels of innovation.’

SCANDICCI, Italy, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's volleyball star spiker Zhu Ting scored seven points as Scandicci defeated bottom-ranked Trentino 3-0 in Italian Serie A1 volleyball league on Sunday.
"Zhu Ting is the strongest player in the world, she is playing good, I know she can make a difference in important matches," Scandicci's head coach Massimo Barbolini said after the 25-18, 25-13, 25-17 victory.
Zhu told Xinhua that her physical condition has not been particularly good recently due to the intensive competition, and she has also been slowly recovering from a wrist injury.
Regarding her career plans and whether to return to the Chinese national team, Zhu said that the decisions "have not been made yet due to multiple factors."
In order to celebrate the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, during the break time of the game, local sino-culture enthusiasts pulled off performances, including dragon and lion dances, for the audience and players, which ignited the stadium's atmosphere.
After this round of matches, the team is ranked 4th in the league with 44 points. ■

The United States Postal System has been issuing religiously themed Christmas stamps since 1965
so this year’s edition comes as neither a shock nor much of a surprise
Despite the declining popularity of physical cards
over a quarter of a billion Christmas stamps will be sold this year
There are likely several of them sitting in your own mailbox today
But what’s unique this year is that the 2022 version of the Christmas stamp is shrouded in mystery
The painting is titled “Virgin and Child,” and it dates back to the first half of the sixteenth century and Florence
Florence was long considered the center of all types of artistic and creative endeavors
and Leonardo da Vinci called the city home
Although artistic influence would soon shift to Rome
the atmosphere in Florence at the time was nevertheless rich
artistic masterpieces coming out of that region still stand the test of time
Only we don’t know who actually painted it
It’s simply attributed to “the Master of Scandicci Lamentation.”
is that it was owned by a gentleman named Antonio Scarpa
He was a doctor and professor of surgery at the University of Pavia
It was one of many paintings in his collection
Antonio Scarpa likely knew the artist – or maybe not
it wasn’t unusual for students in art schools to begin their work
and then turn it over to professors to finish
This particular painting is believed to come from the “School of Raphael” and the artist from the village of Scandicci
a small village just four miles southwest of Florence
The “Lamentation” reference points to another painting by the individual depicting grief over a crucified Christ
Orphaned or unattributed works may seem unusual today
especially in a thoroughly legalistic society where copyrights and royalties are closely protected and monitored
But it wasn’t that uncommon hundreds of years ago
A recent BBC story noted there were over 17,500 unattributed paintings in one particular UK art collection alone
especially when the focal point is the Divine
Does the intrigue and mystery of it all “lend enchantment to the view”
Here we are over 500 years since the debut of “Virgin and Child” and we’re still talking and discussing this one magnificent painting of Mary holding the baby Jesus
Hundreds of millions of copies of the image are flying across all fifty states
the likelihood of the United States Postal System issuing a stamp to commemorate the reversal of Roe and the acknowledgement of pre-born life anytime soon is zero
and a government agency is nevertheless producing
and delivering images of the most famous and most consequential and significant baby ever born
