After the completion of the second round of group play in EuroLeague Women
Fenerbahçe and ÇBK Merisn remain top championship candidates
but one team has emerged as a possible spoiler
The second round group play for 2024-25 EuroLeague Women season is in the books
this gives us some time to reflect on the season so far
There are two clear favorites in Fenerbahçe and ÇBK Mersin
but Beretta Famila Schio showed that they can be serious contenders as well
There are two teams who have lost just three games in the competition, Schio and Valencia Basket. Yet, it is Schio that has emerged as the third power in this year’s competition, in part because they played two more games and won them both. So at 9-3, Schio will not have to play for a semi-final spot. On the court, the club has three WNBA-level talents at the 3
All three not only can play under the basket
but also can stretch the floor and shoot from long distance
In their game against Tango Basket Bourges
Salaün put up 19 points and eight boards and Juhász contributed 13 points and eight boards
It’s particularly puzzling that Salaün is not in the W
Can you believe that she went undrafted in 2023

ZVVZ USK Praha’s Maria Conde tore her Achilles on Jan
with the injury likely resulting in a 12-month break from basketball
Her club wore warm-up shirts supporting her before their game against Casademont Zaragoza
Her absence also seriously hampers Praha’s chances at winning the competition
they still have Brionna Jones and Valériane Ayayi
a pairing that helped them get the necessary win over Zaragoza

Download NowZARAGOZA (Spain) - ZVVZ USK Praha recorded the first ever victory at the inaugural EuroLeague Women Final Six as they eased past Beretta Famila Schio 79-72 to secure a spot among the top four teams in the competition
Their Quarter-Finals success was built firmly around their superior depth and a strong display from Brionna Jones
Ultimately they just had too much in the tank for a Schio team that had been left left short-handed after the influential Ivana Dojkic was ruled out due to illness
Turning pointIt was all locked up at 30-30 with five minutes to play until the halftime break
A powerful 17-5 run culminated in a triple from Teja Oblak and that gave them a handy double-digit cushion
Schio worked to erase the deficit in the second half and briefly made it a one-shot game
Brionna Jones finished with a super smart 17 points and 5 rebounds for Praha
There was also a big display from Valeriane Ayayi who harvested 19 points
while Ezi Magbegor stepped off the bench and grabbed 13 boards
Stats don't liePraha sunk a superb 56.4 percent from two-point range and that was devastating
They also outrebounded Schio 41-28 which helped them get over the line
While it was an unconvincing first 15 minutes from Praha
their run leading up to the interval showed their potential to give Fenerbahce Opet a big test in Friday's Semi-Final
If Ayayi on the wing and Jones under the basket can both do the business again on Friday
then stepping out in Sunday's Final is maybe not beyond them
But they will have to look after the ball much better as there were many unforced turnovers in this one
Schio shot the ball well from long-range in the opening 15 minutes and despite their shorter rotation
managed to cause their opponents some headaches
It was a gutsy display and they showed a lot of heart
but didn't have enough under the hoop for the kind of balanced offensive display required to move to the next phase
The free-scoring Kitija Laksa getting into foul trouble didn't help either
The second round of EuroLeague Women group play has delivered thus far
which is looking to make a move atop the Group E standings
When FIBA introduced the new, two-round format of EuroLeague Women group play
part of the reasoning was to ensure the level of competition remained high throughout the regular season

Will there be more drama in store for this week
Mersin’s game against Beretta Famila Schio should be a good one
Schio quietly has been one of the best teams in EuroLeague Women
and Mersin won’t have an easy time maintaining its undefeated record if the Italian club brings its A-game
We’ll also have another intra-country rivalry game
this time between Casademont Zaragoza (5-2) and Valencia Basket Club (6-1)
a matchup with plenty of defense and physicality
Wednesday’s matchup between Schio and Mersin will be streamed live via the DAZN streaming service. All other EuroLeague Women games can be streamed for free via the official EuroLeague Women YouTube channel
Here’s a rundown of what we’ll be watching for this week
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Luisa Geiselsöder (Basket Landes); Elissa Cunane
Matchup details: Landes remains perhaps the biggest enigma in EuroLeague Women, now sitting at 5-2 after a victory over Bourges
yet still owning a negative point differential (-9)
The French club has a chance to pad both stats against Brno
which is giving up by far the most points per game (75.6) of any team in Group E
but both of its wins thus far have come against an Olympiacos club that went winless in the first round of group play
these two clubs may be more evenly-matched than their records suggest
Where: Pabellón Fuente de San Luis in Valencia
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Stephanie Mawuli (Casademont Zaragoza); Alina Iagupova
Matchup details: The biggest comeback of last week belonged to Zaragoza
which overcame a 15-point deficit to Venezia thanks to a strong second half
Zaragoza will now get a crack at fellow Spanish club Valencia
which hasn’t lost in nearly two months and recorded the only double-digit victory in the competition last week
physical game; Valencia and Zaragoza rank No
while Valencia is also among the top teams in blocks (3.4) and steals per game (10.1)
both clubs are allowing fewer than 67 points per game
so don’t expect this to be a high-scoring contest
Where: Servet Tazegül Spor Salonu in Mersin
How to watch: DAZN
Dorka Juhász (Beretta Famila Schio); Marine Johannès
Matchup details: Mersin found itself in a tighter-than-expected game last week against a depleted Avenida squad, but held on in the final seconds to remain undefeated. Schio, meanwhile, led by as many as 15 over Brno, coasting to victory in its own second-round opener
These results set up a game between probably the two strongest clubs in Group E: Mersin
which boasts elite playmaking in its backcourt and a frontcourt that can single-handedly take over a game
which has scorers at every position and leads EuroLeague Women in 3-point shooting accuracy (38.6 percent)
Schio has also done an excellent job of taking care of the basketball
but will need to be extra cautious against Anderson
who was last season’s Defensive Player of the Year
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Emma Cannon (KGHM BC Polkowice); Ezi Magbegor
the loss still counts all the same; Praha will likely be looking at this matchup as an opportunity to bounce back and improve upon what is a fairly lukewarm record by its usual standards
Until Polkowice gets some reinforcements—Peterson’s absence
has left the team without a significant chunk of its overall playmaking abilities—most of its opponents will probably hold the same attitude
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Matchup details: Fenerbahçe emerged from its big game against Praha challenged but unscathed, further raising confidence that the Turkish giant may have the juice for yet another EuroLeague Women championship. Next up is a young but talented Venezia team that most recently scored just 23 second-half points in an unfortunate collapse against Zaragoza
Kuier (17 points and 5.6 rebounds per game) is playing well in her first EuroLeague Women season
but Venezia will need much more from the rest of its roster if it’s going to upset a star-studded Fenerbahçe team that’s leading the competition in scoring (85 points per game)
Where: Palais des Sports du Prado in Bourges
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Arica Carter (Perfumerias Avenida); Amy Okonkwo
Matchup details: Bourges came up just short against fellow French club Landes last week
scoring fewer than 80 points for just the third time this season
but gets a bit of a reprieve against an Avenida team that is dangerously close to hitting a tailspin
Avenida has parted ways with guards Arella Guirantes and Laura Cornelius in recent days
and while Iyana Martín Carrión has done a fine job of managing the backcourt (9.7 points and 3.6 assists per game)
there’s only so much the club can ask of the 18-year old
Her individual matchup against Astier (11 points and 5.7 assists per game) should be an entertaining one between two youngsters
though Bourges has plenty of veteran experience as a team
while Beretta Famila Schio turned heads by beating the holde
MUNICH (Germany) - There was plenty of excitement on Gameday 11 as ZVVZ USK Praha became only the second team to secure a Quarter-Finals ticket
while Beretta Famila Schio turned heads by beating the defending champions
Casademont Zaragoza moved a step closer to the Play-Offs
as ahey completed a nail-biting win against ASVEL
while there was also high drama in Italy as Virtus Segafredo Bologna continued their renaissance by edging out Villeneuve d'Ascq LM
Polski Cukier AZS UMCS shut down DVTK HUN-Therm to deny their opponents a post-season spot for now at least
while were important road wins for Cukurova Basketbol Mersin and Valencia Basket Club
Basket Landes took a much needed victory on their home court
It's the Quarter-Finals for ZVVZ USK Praha too as the Group B leaders extended their winning streak to a fantastic nine games to remain unbeaten on their home floor. The 78-64 victory against Perfumerias Avenida was fueled by a positive start and strong team effort
A post shared by EuroLeague Women (@euroleaguewomen)
The hosts did the damage in the opening half and their 18-point cushion at the break came in useful for when Avenida slowed them down after the action resumed
Maria Conde and Teja Oblak both dropped 17 points
Ezi Magbegor did the business in the frontcourt with 12 points and 9 rebounds
There were big celebrations for Beretta Famila Schio after they downed Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding 73-67 in a result that provided not only a massive boost of morale
but also saw their prospects of making the Quarter-Finals soar as they improved to 7-4
COSTANZA VERONA FOR THE LEAD 😮💨#EuroLeagueWomen x @familaschio pic.twitter.com/WUuNWrJvDC
A superb third quarter was the difference-maker
with Schio outscoring the Istanbul juggernauts 29-17 and that gave them the springboard to push on for the win
Arella Guirantes led the home side with 21 points
with Emma Meesseman responding by dropping 18 points in defeat
Rookies Casademont Zaragoza had to fend off a late salvage mission from LDLC ASVEL Feminin to secure what could be a priceless and exciting 63-60 home win as they moved to the cusp of a place in the Quarter-Finals
It was another absorbing success for the first-timers and again played out in front of a huge crowd
The visitors almost forced overtime as they tried to sink a three in the closing seconds but it wasn't to be and their hopes have went up in smoke
But the celebrations on the buzzer said it all about Zaragoza who rode their luck but came out on top thanks mainly to leader Leonie Fiebich
who delivered a double-double of 12 points and 12 boards
Virtus continue their revival by pipping VilleneuveIt was time to chew the finger nails in this one as Virtus Segafredo Bolgona completed a gripping 65-62 triumph against Villeneuve d'Ascq LM to make it three wins in a row
Their newfound momentum has given them the impetus to make a push for the Quarter-Finals and the win against one of their closest rivals could prove vital
It was an absorbing encounter with the hosts actually trailing by a point with a minute to go
but Francesca Pasa finished the job in the last sixty seconds or so from the free-throw line to see her team to the win
she netted 24 points and was the star of the game
Having won just once in six games, the pressure was on Valencia Basket Club and helped by the recent addition of Alina Iagupova, they kept their Quarter-Final hopes alive with a much needed 71-61 victory against ACS Sepsi-SIC

Download NowZARAGOZA (Spain) - The first games to be played at the inaugural Final Six in Zaragoza will see four clubs going to work in an attempt to secure the two precious Semi-Final tickets still on offer.
Taking place on Wednesday, April 9, the two Quarter-Final matchups will see Italian club Beretta Famila Schio facing Czech giants ZVVZ USK Praha, prior to Turkish hopefuls CIMSA CBK Mersin locking horns with French outfit Tango Bourges Basket.
The prize of making it past the Quarter-Finals will be to join Fenerbahce Opet and Valencia Basket Club in the penultimate phase on Friday. Both clubs have already made it after their respective Semi-Final Play-Ins success.
What a duel for the first ever game at the Final Six - not least because we have two top class playcallers on the sidelines. Georgios Dikaioulakos of Schio is in the race for Coach of the Year, while the legendary Natalia Hejkova is a five-time champion and FIBA Hall of Famer who's announced she is retiring at the end of the current campaign.
Schio have a great balance with the free-scoring Kitija Laksa often bringing the noise offensively and a classy one-two punch in the frontcourt with Janelle Salaun and Dorka Juhasz. Meanwhile Praha will be looking for inspiration from the likes of winger Valeriane Ayayi, in-form center Brionna Jones and recently returned captain, Teja Oblak.
Game History: Both clubs met in last year's Quarter-Finals which was played as a best-of-three series, with Praha coming out on top 2-1. The Czech side also outlasted Schio at this stage back in 2016, although the Italian club can take pride in having pipped their rivals in a dramatic Third Place Game two seasons ago at the Final Four.
There will be so much familiarity and a lot to love when these two clubs go up against each other. Not only did they meet in the First Round of the current season, there are major stars in the Mersin lineup who were once standout ballers at Bourges - step forward Illiana Rupert, Marine Johannes and Marine Fauthoux!
With those stellar names already listed, as well as the likes of Yvonne Anderson, Bridget Carleton and Karlie Sameulson, Mersin are favorites. But Bourges have shown they can push their opponents close. With Pauline Astier directing traffic and Amy Okonkwo, Kariata Diaby and Artemis Spanou in the paint, they could spring a surprise.
Game History: Mersin beat Bourges twice in the First Round but only by four points at home. The teams also met at the Quarter-Finals stage in the 2022-23 season, with Mersin taking a 2-1 series win which came en-route to making the EuroLeague Women title game for the very first time.
Download NowMUNICH (Germany) - The second week of EuroLeague Women action will see another eight matchups including DVTK HUNTHERM trying to bounce back from opening night agony
The Hungarian club snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in losing at Basket Landes by a solitary point and must try to pick themselves up
But that will be a major challenge against a Beretta Famila Schio side who powered past Perfumerias Avenida last week

Download NowMUNICH (Germany) - There was joy for Beretta Famila Schio as they marched straight into Final Six and the Semi-Final Play-Ins after they outlasted Tango Bourges Basket in an intense and exciting battle
The entertainment and tension was turned up to the max as Schio came good late in the contest to take an 84-72 win at Bourges. It had looked like they might breeze to victory after an electric opening, but Bourges came back and set up a nail-biting conclusion.
Don't miss a second of EuroLeague Women action!
Meanwhile Tango Bourges Basket came out on top in a pivotal French derby clash against Basket Landes.
Zaragoza came out on top and took their ticket for the Play-Ins by beating Reyer 44-39 on the road in a defensively dominated encounter.
With both sides struggling to gain any kind of offensive rhythm, Zaragoza made their move either side of the third and fourth quarter break to see out a hugely important Group F win-double against their rivals.
Iliana Rupert dropped 34 points and racked up a performance efficiency valuation of 39 in an outstanding effort and her best of the season as CIMSA CBK Mersin stayed unbeaten by sweeping aside Perfumerias Avenida 79-62.
That made it a perfect 10-0 for the Turkish powerhouse, although the victory was soured by a worrying injury to leading power forward Natasha Howard who took a blow to her shoulder and had to leave the game early.
Fenerbahce Opet continued their perfect campaign with another victory as they shut out ZVVZ USK Praha 63-54 on the road. The home side had posed some early problems and raced into a double-digit advantage.
However, Fenerbahce gradually shifted up through the defensive gears and locked down their opponents to take victory. Emma Meesseman starred with 19 points and 9 boards for the winning side.
Tango Bourges Basket are now 6-4 in Group E after beating the now 5-5 Basket Landes. The fans at Le Prado enjoyed a 75-61 win as they followed last weekend's French League success with a similarly dominant show. Tima Pouye impressed with 17 points, while Kariata Diaby served up a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
There's some momentum building behind Beretta Famila Schio after they made it three wins in four outing by sealing an impressive 82-71 success at Zabiny Brno. It was thanks mainly to some excellent transition and Hungarian center Dorka Juhasz.
She provided the foundation for victory and continued her good form by amassing 15 points and 13 rebounds, while teammate Janelle Salaun and Kitija Laksa fired 17 and 16 points respectively.

Headlining another exciting lineup of matches is the 'Game of the Week' between Perfumerias Avenida and Beretta Famila Schio
The home team will be looking to make it a fabulous three wins in a row and also extract revenge for a big loss in their season opener
Schio will be determined to complete a critical win double and prove they have got Avenida's number this season
For Week 4, he's going up against the recently retired Kristen Mann who spent more than a decade of her impressive career competing in both EuroLeague and EuroCup Women - most notably for Tango Bourges Basket. She is also an accomplished singer and songwriter.
The fans are still out in front with a spectacular near perfect set of picks across the first three weeks. The Expert is lining up and ready to close the gap, with the Guests only just behind and still perfectly in this early race!
Download NowMUNICH (Germany) - Dorka Juhasz has been crowned EuroLeague Women January MVP after lighting it up with some outstanding displays for the in-form Beretta Famila Schio
The Hungarian national team centerpeice was handed the award thanks to a combination of fan and expert panel voting
having been selected in the prestigious January Team of the Month lineup
The 25-year-old posted a performance efficiency valuation of 23.5 during the period after leading her team with a brilliant January double-double
She averaged 13.5 points and 12.5 rebounds
as well as harvesting 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game
This underpinned a stellar finish to the Second Round for Schio
who won all four games in the month and collected a direct ticket to Final Six in Zaragoza
In the first game of January, Schio dug themselves out of a hole with an impressive 67-62 comeback success at home to Tango Bourges Basket
Schio's first test on the road in 2025 then came at Zabiny Brno, with Juhasz at the center of an 82-71 triumph after amassing 15 points and 13 boards
Next up was a flawless CIMSA CBK Mersin, but Schio handed them their first loss thanks mainly to Juhasz racking up 12 points and a stunning 17 rebounds in an 83-71 victory
Wrapping up a highly productive month, Schio then won 84-72 at Bourges to take a precious ticket for the Semi-Final Play-Ins - fueled by Juhaz contributing 13 points, 8 boards, 3 assists and 2 steals.
In the Quarter-Final Play-Ins, ZVVZ USK Praha won a nail-biter at Basket Landes, while Tango Bourges Basket dealt a major blow to the hopes of Final Six hosts, Casademont Zaragoza with a big win in Spain.
The second leg games of the Play-Ins will take place on Wednesday, February 26.
It was a special atmosphere for Valencia as their fans brought the noise to fuel their team's sensational 89-57 success against CIMSA CBK Mersin. It was a spectacular third quarter that snapped the game and possibly the entire tie open.
The Spanish side surged ahead off the back of a devastating 27-7 period that left their opponents unable to respond in any significant way - even with Marine Johannes back in their lineup after months sidelined with an injury. Valencia produced a sparkling team effort, with five players in double-digits and Alina Iagupova the pick of the bunch after racking up 18 points.
Fenerbahce will be expected to see off Schio when they re-engage with their rivals for the Semi-Finals ticket in the second game next week in Istanbul. However, there is plenty of hope for Schio, since they trailed by as many as 16 points in this first contest and worked hard to narrow the deficit to 86-80.
It looked like the visitors would race away after a red-hot opening, but Schio regained a foothold - helped by 24 points from veteran guard Giorgia Sottana and 19 points from Janelle Salaun. Fenerbahce were led by Emma Meesseman who was on fire with 29 points, while fellow MVP frontrunner Gabby Williams netted 20 points.
It might be a modest lead of just four points, but ZVVZ USK Praha will be looking forward to hosting Basket Landes in the second leg of the Quarter-Final Play-Ins after an exciting 72-68 victory in Mont-de-Marsan. Brionna Jones stole the show after lighting it up with a monumental double-double of 31 points and 16 boards.
There was little between both clubs in a hard-fought contest with 10 lead changes and no team getting ahead at any point by double-digits. But Praha finished more strongly and will hope they have enough to finish the job and step to Final Six. They will look to dominate once again in the paint having out-scored Landes 48-22, while Maite Cazorla also impressed with 12 assists.

Fener’s coach Valérie Garnier cut the rotation down to seven players
The one-two punch of Meesseman and Williams did it again
Williams and Meesseman scored the last four points in crunch time

The second and final slate of EuroLeague Women play-in games tips-off this Wednesday
as the eight remaining clubs in the competition play to determine who will advance to the playoffs

Casademont Zaragoza and Tango Bourges Basket
it’s win or go home; whoever doesn’t qualify for the Final Six is eliminated from the competition

Matchup details: Fenerbahçe is currently shorthanded, waiting for Kayla McBride to arrive after Ariel Atkins left the team, but was still able to hold off a valiant Schio comeback attempt and win its first play-in game
The defending champs’ offense remains a thing of beauty
recording 28 assists on 38 made field goals and shooting 64.2 percent on 2-pointers last week
and while Schio outshot Fenerbahçe from long range (10 made 3-pointers)
Both of these teams have already qualified for the Final Six
so there isn’t as much at stake here as in the quarterfinal play-ins
but Schio would surely love to defeat the reigning champs on the road before then
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Alba Torrens (Valencia Basket Club); Marine Johannès
Matchup details: Of each of last week’s results, Valencia’s win over Mersin was the most decisive. In a shocking 32-point blowout
Valencia held Mersin to 34.4 percent shooting from the field and forced 18 Mersin turnovers against just six assists while winning the rebounding battle 46-31
who combined to score 38 of Mersin’s 57 points
This would obviously be much more alarming had Mersin not already qualified for the Final Six
but the Turkish club will be trying to redeem itself in this game nonetheless
Howard (two points on 1-for-8 shooting last week) will certainly need to play better
especially with Rupert’s (broken hand) status in doubt
How to watch: DAZN
Luisa Geiselsöder (Basket Landes); Ezi Magbegor
Matchup details: Last week’s game between Landes and Praha was the closest of the first slate of play-ins, with Praha eking out a 72-68 victory
while Praha won the rebounding battle 40-31
scoring 31 points and grabbing 16 rebounds
and it’s not looking like Landes has anyone to match up with her individually
it’s only a four-point difference between the two clubs at the moment
meaning that another hot shooting game from Landes could offset Praha’s obvious physical advantages and send the young French club to the Final Six
This is exactly the type of scenario FIBA envisioned when it devised the play-ins: a high-stakes game that will send one team to the playoffs and the other one home
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Stephanie Mawuli (Casademont Zaragoza); Amy Okonkwo
Zaragoza finished ninth in points per game at 66.3
and it’s hard to envision a high-octane lineup like Bourges’ completely folding
It goes without saying that Zaragoza will need to shoot better than 29.7 percent from the field
who scored a combined 13 points on 5-for-20 shooting
will continue to rely on its backcourt of Astier and Tima Pouye (32 total points last week) to lead its potent offense

On the inside, one can explore his online archive and personal journey, which Frigo has been documenting for the last 20 years. This archive contains dreams, drawings, and more.
The artist started this project in 2004 and plans to finish it in 2040. Meanwhile, the creation of CUBO started in 2016.
Visits to the location can be booked through the project’s website. To reach the place there are two available paths: coming from Santa Caterina in the direction of Monte Novegno the first path starts on the left side of the road shortly after the crossroad with via Contrà Costenieri. The second path, accessible to disabled people, starts in the middle on the first turn of the strada per il monte Novegno on a mostly straight gravel road.

The novel coronavirus designated as SARS-CoV-2 has risen the first pandemic caused by coronavirus and by November 26
2020 is responsible for more than 1,410 million deaths
This scenario evidences that despite previous pandemics and epidemics in the world’s history
the current worldwide measures to contain and to mitigate viruses’ outbreaks are still disabled and insufficient
this perspective reinforces the need for new and practical approaches for antiviral material developments and presents current technologies and its advances in this field of research focusing especially in surface materials since it is one of the most common interaction pathways
the roll that nanotechnology has been playing in the combat of viruses as well as the mechanisms that science has been discovering to inactivate these pathogenic microorganisms is presented
we suggest introducing new legislation and norms rather more specified on virucidal agents (materials and devices) than bactericidal ones in human environments such as hospitals
and shopping centers to mitigate the current and future virus-based pandemics and epidemics
One can see that a big difference is apparent
Although the trend for materials with antibacterial surfaces follows an exponential growth as a function of years
the trend for the antiviral surfaces does not follow a straightforward behavior
We will discuss below such behavior with more details
there is a factor ∼29 in the last 25 years
where rather more articles related to antibacterial surfaces were published than antiviral surfaces
which means that for each article reporting an antiviral surface material (230 papers)
another 29 are reporting antibacterial surface materials (6,642 articles)
of all the 4,366 publications of surface materials
the virucidal ones correspond only to 2.8%
and has been barely increased to 4.1% in 2020 alone
We understand that such big difference is due to the public legislation
which is focusing more on bacterial infections than viral ones
which may have reinforced rather more bacterial issues than viral ones
Global number of scientific publications over last 25 years obtained from the “Web of Science-Clarivate Analytics” database for “antibacterial surface material; bactericidal surface material; bactericide surface material” (antibacterial surface material) and “antiviral surface material; virucidal surface material; virucide surface material” (antiviral surface material)
The publications covering these metallic and ceramic materials represent 50% of the data available from 2016 to 2020 since the other half concerns the use of plant extracts and natural compounds (such as chitosan)
and also reviews and researches in the medical field regarding drugs and treatments
Silver-based compound/particle appears as the chemical element most used for antiviral activity so far
and zinc-based compounds/particles follow the sequence
titanium-based compounds/particles and graphene finish the group of materials with antiviral activity
FIGURE 2. (A) Number of publications devoted to antiviral materials where the mortality rate (in red) of major virus disease outbreaks worldwide in the last 25 years is pointed out (B) Main antiviral materials under study in the last 5 years. The search is the same as described in Figure 1 but including the antiviral metallic and ceramic materials’ name
Another trend regards to photoactive composite materials. The development of photo-driven biocidal materials requires an optimization of its functions because the biocidal effect usually drops under dim light or dark conditions as the ROS generated in light declines with time (Zhou et al., 2020). A wide range of examples concerning the use of phototherapy against viruses is reported by Wiehe et al. (2019)
which may be an alternative weapon against SARS-CoV-2
Although different inorganic compounds are showing effective antiviral activity
the mechanisms of the material surface for antiviral activity are not clear and fully understood
It seems to be rather more a trial and error method than systematic studies to identify
if the material surface is destroying or blocking the spikes and/or lipid membranes and/or nucleic acids
which may bring rich information about the inactivation mechanism
new and more detailed experiments are mandatory to understand better the antiviral activity of material surfaces to optimize and tune its antiviral action
in view of the large number of possibilities of combinations and by knowing that the morphology of materials also influences their physical–chemical properties
studies in this area continue to require updates and improvements
especially regarding the durability and shelf life of such materials
New materials to control viruses in environments are extremely important to eliminate or reduce viral load
the virus inactivation mechanisms should be elucidated to improve the virucidal action of materials and devices
novel and more accurate public legislation and norms for antiviral materials should be created to eliminate or reduce the viral charge in closed environments and transportation that may slow down the transmission of viruses for current SARS-CoV-2 and future pandemics/epidemics

ALS made the literature review and wrote the first version of the article; AFM revised the final text emphasizing the material surface activity; GF revised the biological issues of the article; CAF leaded the work
and gave the idea to explore bactericidal vs
virucidal activities in previous articles and integrate the information

Valencia and Zaragoza will fight for the last remaining quarter-final spot from Group A
four teams will battle for the final two places in the playoffs
What happened in the second-to-last week of EuroLeague Women group play
three of the four games were basically blowouts
the Group B action made up for the lack of excitement
If you would have asked anyone with some EuroLeague Women knowledge to recommend one game to watch on Wednesday
they probably would have picked Schio versus Zaragoza
Both teams had eight wins and the winner would clinch the third spot in the quarter-finals
leaving one available postseason spot for the loser or Valencia
if they would beat DVTK (spoiler: they did)
the teams were evenly matched and hopes were that the game was going to be exciting (spoiler: it wasn’t)
Schio won the first quarter 28-16 and their lead was never in peril
The Lynx’s Dorka Juhász played her best game in the campaign so far
Arella Guirantes had 15 points and seven rebounds
Both were scoring with incredible accuracy
with Mabrey going 4-for-5 from 3 and Carleton going a respectable 3-for-7 from long distance
The difference between both teams was motivation: Győr weren’t playing for anything but honor
while Mersin was battling for a spot in the quarter-finals
Up until the first part of the second half
but once Mersin got up 50-47 after a 3 from Turkish small forward Sinem Atas
Four players from Mersin scored in double-digits and the Turks outrebounded the Hungarians 36-27
fun to watch and it’s a shame that we will see the high-scoring Győr only once more in this year’s competition
In the most important match of the gameday
while Polkowice could afford a loss only if Villeneuve-d’Ascq LM lost to Basket Landes
The Polkowice game started first and it was incredibly tight
with the Poles leading 39-38 after the first half
Polkowice was up by one point after a block by Stephanie Mavunga and a layup by Brittney Sykes
as she had gameday highs in points (25) and rebounds (11)
the play was reviewed and once the review was rejected
as the Polish players were looking for a way to get to the basket
Klaudia Gertchen got the rebound for Polkowice
immediately tried to shoot and when that attempt failed
the ball was caught by Avenida’s Bernadett Határ
Polkowice’s inbound pass went out of bounds and
the game essentially was over; Avenida would escape with the 78-73 victory
The ending might as well be called the “Alexis Peterson Show,” as she had four points
two assists and a steal in the final two minutes
Basket Landes won 80-71 and Polkowice still have a chance of progressing to the quarter-finals
Schio and Zaragoza—survived to play in decisive Game 3s of the EuroLeague Women quarterfinals
while Fenerbahçe progresses to the Final Four
Three of the four EuroLeague Women best-of-three quarterfinals series are going to a decisive third and final game
Beretta Famila Schio and Casademont Zaragoza extended their series
while Fenerbahçe Alagöz Holding advanced to the Final Four
These two clubs have provided the most exciting series of the quarterfinals
with lead changes and scoring streaks galore
DVTK won the first quarter 21-8 behind an awesome performance by Darcee Garbin
The second quarter was a totally different story
with Villeneuve-d’Ascq’s Kennedy Burke scoring eight points
and her team winning the second 10 minutes of the game 25-13
The score at the half was 34-33 for the Hungarians
DVTK made just one-third of their shot attempts and the French team got a humble lead
making the contest a two possession game—until Kennedy Burke put her team up by seven with a 3-pointer
Diaby finished with 13 points and nine rebounds
Garbin was the only player who shot over 40 percent while attempting more than one shot from the floor
The teams will meet again in Hungary next week to decide which squad will make it to the semi-finals
Valériane Ayayi isn’t the first player that comes to mind when talking about ZVVZ Praha
but she was the one who set the tone for the Czech champions
started building a lead by making defensive stops and draining close to half of their shot attempts
playing at full force with Nyara Sabally back in the lineup
converted around 37 percent of their shots
but then Dorka Juhász delivered an interior defense masterclass
She gave her team some second chances thanks to her rebounds
mostly thanks to their long-distance shooting; Schio converted 46 percent as a team
with Robyn Parks going 3-for-6 and Giorgia Sottana finishing 3-for-4 from behind the arc
this was another game ultimately won with 3-point shooting
While Mersin’s shooting was more accurate overall (38 percent to 31 percent)
Zaragoza shot better from long distance (38 percent to 24 percent)
with Zaragoza controlling the pace and Mersin’s frustrations mounting
as they were missing shots and losing the ball (18 turnovers in total)
Zaragoza opened up the last 10 minutes up by four
Mersin then started playing more aggressively
she rebounded the ball on the opposing basket and kicked it out to Kahleah Copper
who drained a 3 and reduced Zaragoza’s lead to two points
With a minute left in the game and the score 57-55
got the second and it was a one-point game
The German’s second block of the day wasn’t particularly beautiful
Copper got the rebound after Christelle Diallo missed her shot
but the ball bounced off the front of the rim
The fans in Salamanca are really passionate about their basketball team
supporting their team in a battle against the favorites of not only the series
it looked like we might see Fenerbahçe lose
with Avenida up 36-30 and Sika Koné making the most of the space in the paint
She would finish the game with 12 points and seven rebounds
Fenerbahçe stepped up on both ends of the floor
outscoring Avenida 22-6 by playing aggressively
as exactly half of their points came from free throws
That part of the game provided two highlight-worthy plays from the defending champions
finishing with a layup after stealing the ball
Kayla McBride then scored a beautiful floater with two defenders in her face
But just when it seemed their lead was safe
there was too little time to beat a team as experienced and established as Fenerbahçe
Napheesa Collier had 14 points and four rebounds
Yvonne Anderson had game-high 15 points and Kayla McBride finished up with 12 points and five turnovers
Gameday 11 featured exciting play and unexpected results
Alina Iagupova had an uneven debut for Valencia and Praha officially made the quarterfinals
now has lost two of their last three games
Praha became the second team to make the quarterfinals
the next three weeks will bring a lot of emotion
While most of us have spent the holiday break putting on pounds
opening gifts and enjoying some well-deserved rest
coach Krzysztof Szewczyk and the Lublin players have been coming up with defensive schemes to improve their position in Group A and make one final run at a spot in the quarterfinals
They held DVTK to 24 percent shooting from the floor
The Hungarians made just 13 shots from the field throughout the whole game
the score at the half was relatively close
The 5-foot-11 Polish forward finished the game with 19 points
Lublin continues to be at the bottom of Group A with two wins
was alarmingly close and competitive from the very beginning
Alarmingly for the reigning EuroLeague winners
following another stellar play from Arella Guirantes
six rebounds and five assists (but also 6 turnovers)
Schio regained the lead they lost in the middle of second quarter—and they held it tight till the buzzer
by Giorgia Sottana and Lynx’s Dorka Juhász
the Italians entered the fourth quarter up by six points
who had her best game of the season and finished with 17 points and five dimes
She did not shy away from responsibility when it mattered and following her assist on a 3 by Kayla McBride
But that was the closest that Fenerbahçe got to winning the game
With one minute to go and Famila up by seven
Emma Meesseman lost the ball after a bad pass from McBride
and their effort made for an exciting 75-67 win
Burke struggled with her shot throughout the whole game
as she finished the game 4-for-13 from the floor
she was able to draw a foul and go to the line
the plan was probably to make the first shot
get the rebound and fire up a shot just in time to tie the game
CBK Mersin lost one of their core players in Alina Iagupova
who signed with Valencia and despite her debut not going particularly well—12 minutes
two turnovers and three fouls—her team emerged victorious
they were undeterred by the subtraction and won their game against Polkowice 66-59
after another stellar performance by Marina Mabrey
The Chicago Sky guard finished the game with 25 points
delivering long passes for easy baskets for her teammates and shooting from long distance
Minnesota’s standout rookie will play in the EuroLeague to sharpen her skills during the WNBA offseason after the 2023 campaign
Italian club Famila Basket Schio announced on Friday they signed Minnesota Lynx center Dorka Juhász
Famila Basket Schio competes in the EuroLeague, which features the best teams and competition for WNBA players looking to improve their games during the offseason
and is widely regarded as the second-best league in the world behind the W
Juhász is set to team up with WNBA players in Atlanta Dream All-Star scoring Machine Rhyne Howard and Chicago Sky markswoman Marina Mabrey
who combined to lead Schio to a EuroLeague third place finish in 2023 and Italy Serie A1 titles in 2022 and 2023
Schio also announced Friday they signed Seattle Storm guard Arella Guirantes
Hungary native will join fellow Lynx front-court mate Jess Shepard in playing overseas ball in Italy’s Serie A1 (Umana Reyer Venezia)
Juhász will battle against teammates Kayla McBride (Fenerbahçe Alagoz Holding; Turkey) and Bridget Carleton (Perfumerias Avenida; Spain)
Minnesota selected the former UCONN star 16th overall
Juhász has earned a consistent role with the Lynx as a rookie
0.6 blocks and 0.4 steals in 16.6 minutes per game across seven games played (two starts)
where she put on display her defensive versatility
Lynx F/C Dorka Juhász was really impressive in her WNBA debut on Friday. Her defensive activity was terrific, especially switching in PnR/DHO actions. Several good reps pressuring handlers throughout the game. Excited to see another versatile defender in a switch-heavy system. pic.twitter.com/zhSc8B67Rm
Lynx Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations has sung Juhász’s praises through the first month of the season. After the team’s most recent win over the Washington Mystics
Reeve was eager to talk about her rookie center
I can’t sit here and say that when we were drafting Dorka that she would be in moments in the first 6 games playing impact minutes
We didn’t have it scripted it that way,” Reeve said
“Her maturity level is out of this world.”
When you’re eager to learn and as a quick of a study and as hard of a worker as Juhász is
Lynx fans will undoubtedly be excited to watch her progress throughout the rest of the 2023 season and into the offseason as she takes her talents to Italy
but that sense of accomplishment and pride could soon morph into fairytale status
SCHIO (Italy) - The celebrations when Beretta Famila Schio made their first Final Four were quite something
While Schio have played at the flagship season event previously
that was when the Final Four was briefly expanded to the Final Eight
This time it is different and making the Semi-Finals has made a whole town burst with pride
But they're not stopping there and after an eye-catching 10-4 Regular Season
an epic Quarter-Finals series against the highly fancied Valencia Basket Club and Italian Cup silverware last weekend
Schio will be determined to pull off a surprise
toughness and general teamwork that is most likely to fuel the upset as they prepare to face Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding in the Semi-Finals
"We have a lot of personalities which is great for us," stated Marina Mabrey
who has led the team with more than 14 points per game
"We have people who are really fiery and competitive and other people who are a calming presence and steady
using exactly what we need on those certain nights has been a big part of us being successful."
She added: "Everyone brings special skillsets and I think our team is great at putting it together and putting people in positions to be successful."
It's a sentiment echoed by head coach Giorgios Dikaioulakos
who insisted: "The biggest strength of this team is the team inside
"The mentality that the players have created for this team and the toughness is the biggest strength."
Check out the Beretta Famila Schio team profile:
The beauty of this Schio side is that they really do so much as a team on the court
It shows in the games themselves and also in the numbers which backs that up
Jasmine Keys and Rhyne Howard all locked between 12-14 in efficiency
that level of consistency and connection is so effective
When you throw in the contributions from the rest of the roster which have also impressed
Schio are massive underdogs and it is well documented that the main platform for their historic run to the Semi-Finals was founded on their outstanding unbeaten home record
Now they must do it on the road and against the odds
but they can take some inspiration that it was on this very same court in the Czech capital that ZVVZ USK Praha toppled runaway favorites and absolute juggernauts UMMC Ekaterinburg to win their first title
It always looked like a good fit when experienced Greek playcaller Giorgios Dikaioulakos was appointed by Schio and after a couple of seasons at the helm
he has already delivered by getting them to this first Final Four
Yet he will be eager to ensure that this is not the end and there will be absolute no way that Schio will be satisfied with this impressive accomplishment
They have nothing to lose and the organization
strong defense and teamwork will be turned up even more - coach GD will make sure of that
Schio have more domestic ballers making tangible contributions on their team than any other Final Four club and that added passion can only be a great factor during the big weekend
Forward Jasmine Keys has written the most headlines and been fantastic
but Gio Sottana and Costanza Verona have also made a noise in the backcourt
with Martina Bestagno rock solid in the paint
That Italian pride won' be in short supply on the court

Reigning EuroLeague Women champions Fenerbahçe Alagöz Holding face a big test this week in Beretta Famila Schio
which has several WNBA players on its roster
ZVVZ USK Praha keeps winning despite significant roster turnover
and will add Nyara Sabally to its ranks this week
It was a rough offseason for Czech club ZVVZ USK Praha, which lost perennial EuroLeague Women MVP candidate Alyssa Thomas (who is now playing her overseas ball in China) and highly-effective center Brionna Jones, who is recovering from an Achilles injury suffered this past WNBA season
and thanks to players like Ezi Magbegor and Maite Cazorla
the club is still making plenty of noise in EuroLeague Women
Magbegor is averaging 20 points and a league-leading 12.3 rebounds per game
while Cazorla leads the competition in assists at seven per game
Praha ranks third in EuroLeague Women in scoring (78.7 points per game) and first in rebounding (40.7 rebounds per game)
which is a remarkable feat considering how much frontcourt talent the club failed to retain from last season
Things are getting better for Praha, too. Forward Nyara Sabally, fresh off a WNBA Finals appearance with the New York Liberty, recently joined the club in Prague ahead of its Week 4 EuroLeague Women matchup against Perfumerias Avenida
Praha may not throw the young Sabally into the deep end just yet—at 2-1 and widely expected to be a contender for the EuroLeague Women title
there’s no reason for the club to be hasty—but when she does play
she’ll surely add even more international star power to an organization that’s plenty used to it

In Week 4, Fenerbahçe will take on Italian club Beretta Famila Schio, and it’s been tabbed by FIBA.com as the EuroLeague Women game of the week
plays for Fenerbahçe alongside other top-notch talent including Natasha Howard and Emma Meesseman; their matchup against Dorka Juhász

including standout players and statistical trends

Elin Gustavsson (Polski Cukier AZS UMCS Lublin); Kaila Charles
Matchup details: Lublin got on the board last week with a surprisingly easy win over Sepsi-SIC
Fluker (20 points and 12 rebounds) and Gustavsson (17 points and 11 rebounds) all played their best ball
It suddenly makes the long-term vision for the club much clearer
who had struggled with her shot in the previous two weeks
a club that has quietly remained among EuroLeague Women’s undefeated despite lacking the star power of the competition’s bigger names
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Jasmine Keys (Beretta Famila Schio); Natasha Howard
Nikolina Milic (Fenerbahçe Alagöz Holding)
Matchup details: Howard had a rough first game back with Fenerbahçe last week
It goes without saying that she’ll need to be better against Schio’s front line
How Guirantes handles McBride will be another intriguing individual matchup: one young
up-and-coming scoring guard against a veteran playing some of the best basketball of her career
There will be big names everywhere on the court in this one
and it could also have late-season tiebreaker implications should the two clubs remain close in the Group A standings
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Brianna Fraser (KGHM BC Polkowice); Alina Iagupova
Elizabeth Williams (Çukurova Basketbol Mersin)
Matchup details: Mersin has won both of its games since adding Mabrey and Williams to its roster, but now has to deal with a major coaching change. Roberto Íñiguez, one of the most accomplished coaches in EuroLeague Women history, resigned from Mersin abruptly last week
While the Turkish club still certainly has the talent to win big games
we’ll see how it handles the adversity against Polkowice
while Fraser has also been a nice surprise in her first season with Polkowice
averaging a team-high 15 points and eight rebounds per game
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Luisa Geiselsöder (Basket Landes); Diamond Miller
Matchup details: Győr will be without Miller for at least a few weeks due to a knee injury, according to the club, which is a huge blow. Győr will, however, still have a good opportunity to finally get on the board this week against Landes, which is currently averaging the fewest points per game (71) of any club in Group B
Győr’s defense (87 points allowed per game) has been the worst in the entire competition to this point
So if Landes is going to break out of its funk
Anigwe will be the main player to watch in this matchup; she’s currently leading EuroLeague Women in scoring at 22.3 points per game
Where: Pabellón Municipal Fuente de San Luis in Valencia
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Ellen Nystrom (ACS Sepsi-SIC); Rebecca Allen
Matchup details: Sepsi-SIC continues to struggle offensively, shooting 39.8 percent from the field as a team and averaging 19 turnovers per game against just 13.6 assists. Things won’t get any easier this week against a Valencia club that is currently ranked No. 3 in the competition by FIBA.com
it’s at the free throw line; though the Romanian club is shooting a poor 62.5 percent from the stripe
averaging just 7.3 free throw attempts through three games
If that number regresses in the right direction for Valencia
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Aleksa Gulbe (Casademont Zaragoza); Julie Allemand
should be looking at this week’s game as an opportunity to steal a win against a club it may not otherwise have such an advantage over
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Haley Peters (Virtus Segafredo Bologna); Kennedy Burke
Matchup details: Bologna just keeps rolling
ranking second in EuroLeague Women in scoring (84.7 points) and assists (23.3 assists) per game and currently featuring six players averaging double-digit points
Dojkić has been particularly hot (18 points and 3.7 3-pointers made per game) and we’ll now get to see if she can keep it going against a Villeneuve d’Ascq club with several talented perimeter players
Burke currently leads the competition in steals per game (2.7) to go with her 19 points per game
Smalls is a threat to go off from beyond the arc
though her performance has been inconsistent thus far (25 percent 3-point shooting)

According to EuroBasket, Howard is the only American member currently on the Schio roster, which expects to compete for another title in 2022-23. Details surrounding her contract have not been released. The Serie A season typically runs from September through May while the WNBA season began in May and will continue until the end of September.

Beretta Famila Schio has been one of EuroLeague Women’s standout teams thus far
and it’s certainly not lacking for WNBA talent
Watch Marina Mabrey and Rhyne Howard lead their Italian club into battle this week against the competition’s defending champion
A game between red-hot Italian club Beretta Famila Schio (5-1) and defending EuroLeague Women champion Sopron Basket (4-2) highlights Week 7 of EuroLeague Women group play
which will span three days beginning this Tuesday
The competition will then have the following week off before returning to action in January 2023
Schio features several names that should be familiar to WNBA fans — including Marina Mabrey, Amanda Zahui B., Astou Ndour-Fall and reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year Rhyne Howard — making the club an attractive choice to follow during EuroLeague Women play. Schio has won four-straight games and currently sits atop the Group B standings
with Mabrey and Howard forming one of the competition’s better duos on the perimeter
THIS DUO. Sharp eyes @mmabrey1 & quick hands @howard_rhyne #EuroLeagueWomen | @familaschio pic.twitter.com/Yl0RYHxAZh
has leaned on its trademark defense to continue being competitive
No team is allowing fewer points per game (60.8) in group play than the Hungarian club
Sopron has one of the best defensive players in the world to execute its vision on that end of the court
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Matchup details: Can Olympiacós finally get on the board
Its cumulative point differential of -82 is the worst in EuroLeague Women
and its defensive struggles (82.8 points allowed per game; highest in the competition) have outweighed Gustafson’s excellent individual play (25 points and 9.6 rebounds per game; 62.4 percent shooting)
That defense will once again be put to the test against a Valencia club that attempts 19.8 3-pointers per game and has made 39.5 percent of them (second-highest in EuroLeague Women)
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Jelena Brooks (Sopron Basket); Rhyne Howard
10-of-17 shooting in Week 6) is playing well
the club becomes one-dimensional and must depend entirely on its defense to win games
which probably won’t fly against a team with Schio’s talent
While Howard and Mabrey have been great for Schio thus far
the team’s starting frontcourt of Ndour-Fall (14.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game) and Jasmine Keys (10.8 points and eight rebounds per game) has been quietly effective as well
We’ll see if Sopron can manufacture enough offense to win and pull into a tie with Schio in the standings
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Olivia Epoupa (Fenerbahçe Alagöz Holding); Yvonne Anderson
Matchup details: Bourges lost in heartbreaking fashion to Polkowice, a game that the French club
which now has to take on a Fenerbahçe club that has won four-straight games despite not truly hitting its stride yet
Fenerbahçe ranks second in EuroLeague Women in points per game (80.2)
with several players who can take over a game at a moment’s notice; Bourges will
need to rely on creating havoc on defense (10 steals per game) to give itself a chance
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Cheridene Green (DVTK HUN-Therm); Marine Fauthoux
Matchup details: On the surface, this may not seem like a compelling matchup, particularly for Landes, which ranks last in the competition in both points (59.2) and rebounds (30.5) per game. Both clubs are quite young, however (DVTK’s mean age is just 23 years old)
and between them they’ve had a handful of impressive performances in group play; incidentally
This game may not mean much in this season’s standings
but it could be treated as a showcase for some of the world’s up-and-coming international talent
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Weronika Gajda (BC Polkowice); Victoria Vivians
Matchup details: Polkowice squeaked by Bourges last week and
despite its 3-point shooting regressing (7-of-25)
remains at the top of the Group A standings
It was the first game of the season in which Mavunga (16.8 points and 14.3 rebounds per game) did not record a double-double; she’ll go up against a frontcourt of Hebard and Goree that has mostly flown under the radar but has been very productive (combined 28.7 points and 15.2 rebounds per game)
Polkowice is more effective at moving the basketball (19.3 assists per game)
so Szekszárd will need a big game from Vivians (18.3 points per game) to counter that
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Shay Murphy (Spar Girona); Bridget Carleton
Aleksandra Crvendakić (Perfumerias Avenida)
Momentum is certainly on Avenida’s side entering this one; Girona will need to find a way to manufacture more efficient offense (63.2 points per game) in order to break out of its slump and take this rivalry game
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Kitija Laksa (Virtus Segafredo Bologna); Alyssa Thomas
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Ziomara Morrison (Kangoeroes Mechelen); Jonquel Jones
Matchup details: Don’t be fooled by Mersin’s record; it has arguably the most talented starting lineup in the competition, and its stars showed what they can do when things are going well in last week’s win over Girona
the Turkish club hasn’t exactly played to its potential thus far in the group phase
but this game will serve as a good opportunity for Mersin to establish some momentum
Mechelen is clearly out-gunned in this matchup
particularly on the boards (32.7 rebounds per game to Mersin’s 42.3) and will need an anomalous shooting performance to pull off an upset

declare themselves British (Credit: Rossi Thomson)With Union Jack flags flapping in the wind and a slight aroma of fried cod in the air
declares itself British for one weekend a year
I could have sworn that I was in Great Britain
Union Jack flags were flapping in the wind
a slight aroma of fried cod tinged the air and the queens were waving to their starstruck subjects – Queen Elizabeth II from a gleaming car and her great-great-grandmother Victoria from underneath a lacy black parasol
Schio has always been known as ‘the Manchester of Italy’The time and space continuum seemed to have been broken
thus bringing two of the most formidable British queens together in the same
I was in a small Northern Italian town called Schio (pronounced 'ski-o')
This was British Day Schio – a weekend extravaganza dedicated to Great Britain during which the citizens of Schio declare themselves British
They dress up as British characters from past and modern times and even publish a newspaper (the headline of which this year proudly stated: La Citta' Piu' Britannica d'Italia!
“Schio has always been known as ‘the Manchester of Italy’,” said Claudio Canova
a digital marketing specialist who conceived the idea for British Day Schio six years ago
• The last velvet merchant of Venice
• A piece of Britain lost in Mexico
• A town that’s more British than Britain
The reason behind Schio's moniker lies in the town's industrial history
Schio was once a major wool and textile production centre
New wool-spinning and weaving technologies imported from England by the Venetian patrician Nicolò Tron led to the creation in 1718 of an important wool mill in Schio
friend of British mathematician Isaac Newton and former ambassador of the Republic of Venice to the court of King George I
His attempts to introduce the English know-how to Venice were rebuffed by the Republic’s influential textile corporations
Tron headed to Schio in the northern confines of the Republic
The town was a centuries-old wool-producing centre with cheap skilled labour
abundant raw materials and a license given to it by the Republic of Venice in 1701 to manufacture fine textiles independently of Venice’s textile corporations
He employed nine English technicians who relocated to Schio with their families to work in Tron’s new wool mill
Tron brought another English invention to the small Italian town: the flying shuttle
Invented by Lancashire-born machinist John Kay
the flying shuttle significantly sped up the weaving process
which increased productivity and reduced costs
Schio soon became synonymous with high-quality textiles
which were exported all over Europe and beyond
father-and-son duo Francesco and Alessandro Rossi (no relation to me) took Schio's textile production to new heights
who was inspired by the vertical woollen mills found in Manchester and throughout Great Britain
was the largest industrial plant in 19th-Century Italy
Today it is considered the imposing symbol of Italy's first industrial revolution
with its tall body symmetrically dotted with 330 windows
is a testament to the close technological connection Schio has had with Manchester throughout the centuries
“Add to this Schio's rainy weather and the grumpy character of its citizens
and you have the most British town in Italy,” Canova said
British Day Schio evolved from SchioLife
a British rock-themed music festival spearheaded by Canova
we have been organising concerts and had the opportunity to get in touch with many legendary musicians like Steve Hackett from Genesis
Rick Wakeman [the keyboardist of Yes] and Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull.”
“I realised that we live in the most British town of Italy and then we had to do something to highlight these characteristics,” Canova continued
“I think that after six years we have succeeded.”
Original.’ – which according to Canova reflects the character of the citizens of Schio – British Day Schio has been enjoying an ever-increasing popularity since its inception
the festival attracted more than 30,000 people in 2017
That year paid tribute to Oasis; the 2018 edition was in homage to Peter Gabriel
Add to this Schio's rainy weather and the grumpy character of its citizens
and you have the most British town in Italy“We choose the artists to whom we dedicate British Day Schio each year based on the social values they transmit
Peter Gabriel is one of the champions for peace in the world and his message is important for everyone
The first three editions of the festival were dedicated
The Phantom of the Opera and Pink Floyd,” Canova explained
“Who are you going to pay homage to next year?” I asked
only too eager to throw some names in the hat
the 2019 festival will be dedicated to Alessandro Rossi as it will be 200 years since his birth
I arrived in Schio in the early afternoon on the day of the festival this past October
The central streets of the town were lined with grand buildings in shades of ochre
Ladies and gents strolled the pavements dressed in their best British-inspired costumes
The window displays of the local shops sported copious amounts of British paraphernalia: biscuit tins in the Union Jack colours
little flags with Harry and Meghan's happy faces
famous locations like Abbey Road and Carnaby Street had been recreated
Even the local gelateria had slapped a large sign saying ‘Ice Cream’ on its window
the citizens of Schio love this event,” Canova told me
“British Day Schio attracts thousands of people
dressed up in British-style attire or as famous characters such as Harry Potter
They talk in English on the streets as if it were normal
They enter the shops and ask for things in English
And it is all done without irony – a genuine expression both of an appreciation for Great Britain and Schio's own industrial past
“What will happen with British Day Schio after Brexit
Will you continue organising it?” I asked Canova
Manchester doesn’t know about British Day Schio yet
Canova’s plan is to contact the British city in the near future and build a relationship based on the historical link between the two cities
“Will Brexit change how Schio feels about Britain?” I pressed
“I think that the British citizens are historically always ahead compared to the rest of Europe and perhaps the world
I believe that the British people only want to defend their state from economic [and] financial invasions and not from the European citizens.”
I headed to the large terrace in front of Schio's St Pietro Cathedral
From there I could see the main piazza below me filled with hundreds of people waiting for the festival’s centrepiece – the British Day Schio parade – to begin
I could see the cragged peaks of the Little Dolomites
A rousing rendition of Scotland the Brave filled the air
There was nothing to betray that the musicians – dressed in kilts and skilfully handling their bagpipes – were not from Scotland but from the nearby Italian city of Vicenza
A long procession of historic British cars followed
representing the British technological and design advances through the decades
I think that the British citizens are historically always ahead compared to the rest of Europe and perhaps the worldSuddenly the crowd surged forward
eager to see something that was beyond my line of sight
I glimpsed a gleaming open-top vehicle surrounded by four guards with bearskin hats
“It's the Queen!” I shouted in delight
'Queen Elizabeth II' was taking in the adoration of the crowd
bestowing upon us one of her trademark waves every now and then
You had to hand it to the organisers of British Day Schio
They’d managed to make even me – a Bulgarian totally uninterested in all things royal – giddy with excitement at the sight of the Queen
While there is no shortage of festivals in Italy
British Day Schio is in a league of its own
Residents had adopted little bits and pieces of British culture and somehow managed to put them together in a red
white and blue puzzle held together by the pride in their own Italian town and its industrial history
the citizens of Schio had managed to master the notoriously hard-to-grasp British humour
You just had to look at the British Day Schio's newspaper where
it said: “The parade is to be held even in good weather!”

PRAHA (Czech Republic) - Beretta Famila Schio ended their first Final Four on a high after a last second bucket by Egle Sventoraite gave them a 59-56 win against ZVVZ USK Praha in the Third- Place Game
It was a dramatic finish to a compelling contest and the celebrations on the final buzzer showed what it meant to the Italians to attain their highest ever finish at the event

Turning point: It all boiled down to a dramatic conclusion and with Teja Oblak having made what looked like a clutch show to force overtime
Schio got the ball sideline with four seconds remaining - only to despair by turning it over
Praha repaid the favor by spilling it themselves and it ended up in the hands of the Lithuanian center Sventoraite who sunk the biggest shot of her career with a little help from the backboard

there were 17 points from Marina Mabrey and 11 from Astou Ndour for Schio
Meanwhile Alyssa Thomas and Brionna Jones both accumulated double-doubles in defeat
Thomas racked up 15 points and 12 rebounds
Stats Don't Lie: ZVVZ USK Praha scored 58 points in the Semi-Finals which was unthinkable for them
this tally of 56 was even worse and you would have to have a long memory to remember them ever scoring this low in successive games
Bottom Line: Schio had to dig deep having dominated and almost threw it away as they did last season on the same floor in the Quarter-Finals
but this time they clung on - if only just

It’s a big game for postseason seeding purposes
as Schio is currently in control of the fourth and final playoff seed in Group B
but has not yet clinched it; a win over Fenerbahçe this Saturday would make things official

it’s mostly on the Fenerbahçe side: McBride currently ranks third in the competition in scoring (19.8 points per game) while Iagupova ranks third in assists (5.5 per game)
Gruda is having yet another successful season in her storied international career — the French center is currently averaging 14.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per game in EuroLeague Women play — and she’ll have her work cut out for her against a deep Fenerbahçe front line
especially with an ailing Charli Collier (hip) no longer with the team
How to watch: FIBA YouTube live stream
Matchup details: On paper, this is a mismatch. As a team, Praha ranks second in EuroLeague Women in both scoring (83.5 points per game) and assists (22.9 per game) and leads the competition in rebounding (43.7 per game). Praha also obliterated Riga 103-52 in their last meeting
Perhaps Riga can catch its opponent off guard this time around; this game is
which has been locked into a EuroLeague Women postseason berth and has cooled off considerably since its six-game winning streak earlier in the season
Yvonne Anderson (Umana Reyer); Nina Glonti
all eyes will be on Beretta Famila Schio as they go for victory in Istanbul in pursuit of a Quarter-Finals ticket
ISTANBUL (Turkey) - With Fenerbahce Safiport having already wrapped up top spot in Group B
The Italian side will have to cause an upset if they want to guarantee making it to the post season, although they could still squeeze through if they lose and other results go their way
A post shared by Famila Basket Schio (@familabasketschio)
Schio have bolstered their roster with the acquisition of Aby Gaye from Sopron Basket and she will replace Charli Collier
who has had to remain in the USA with an injury issue
The clash will also see Schio coach Georgios Dikaioulakos returning to his former club to add an extra dimension and he will be looking to complete a double over his former employers
having masterminded victory earlier in the season
Meanwhile Fenerbahce playcaller Victor Lapena is back in situ after helping Canada reach the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022
The live broadcast of the game between Fenerbahce Safiport and Beretta Famila Schio will be freely available on the EuroLeague Women YouTube channel
Form guide: Confirmed Group B winners Fenerbahce are currently 10-3 and have also lost only once at home all season
against Basket Landes and since then they have gone 4-0
winning each game by an average of 29 points
The reigning Turkish champions are an impressive 15-1 in their domestic league
Schio are 8-5 and sit in fourth place in Group B
also topping their domestic league with a flawless 16 wins and zero losses
Last meeting: It was a super victory for Beretta Famila Schio as they won a hard-fought battle 64-60
with Sandrine Gruda getting it done by contributing 17 points
Key matchup: Kitija Laksa will probably need to have a good shooting night for Schio if the visitors are to be successful in this game
Her matchup with Alina Iagupova could be a fun one to watch
since both can put points on the scoreboard in a hurry
X-factor: Schio can't afford the hosts to be able to 'run and gun' because of their significant offensive firepower
They have to use their defense and controlling the tempo to keep pace with their opponents
You get the sense that the lower the score
the more the chance of Schio winning the game

while Perfumerias Avenida took a pivotal win
MUNICH (Germany) - The penultimate night of the Regular Season proved dramatic as Cukurova Basketbol Mersin and Beretta Famila Schio landed in the last eight
but they felt the pain of the loss to Avenida with the Spanish side's chances transformed
Casademont Zaragoza still have a chance despite being victims of Schio and there were setbacks for Villeneuve d'Ascq LM and Virtus Segafredo Bologna who lost
with Valencia Basket Club winning again to keep hope alive
They've been on the cusp of punching a ticket for the last couple of weeks, but Cukurova Basketbol Mersin have finally has their post-season confirmed again. Having rode their way to Final Four last season, they could be on for a repeat, although had to work hard for their Quarter-Finals place with a 76-71 road win at Serco UNI Gyor
As usual it was the twin turbos of Marina Mabrey and Elizabeth Williams that did the damage for the Turkish side
Williams was a menace in the frontcourt with 14 points
A scorching first quarter set Beretta Famila Schio on course for a famous victory as they stepped into the Quarter-Finals again with a dominant 73-59 win against Casademont Zaragoza who's debut season is in danger of running out of steam
Schio made a big statement from the outset with a 28-16 opening period and never looked back

With Zaragoza again struggling to put up enough points
Schio took full advantage and breezed to a triumph as they also eye up possible consecutive Final Four appearances now
Arella Guirantes did her usual top work and corralled 15 points and 7 boards
with Jasmine Keys stepping up defensively with 4 huge blocks
It was an epic away victory for Perfumerias Avenida who wrestled destiny back into their own hands with a nervous and thrilling 78-73 road win at rivals KGHM BC Polkowice
The Spanish side produced an excellent third quarter to get onto the front foot and did the business during crunch time to take victory
Laura Gil showed her experience with a superb double-double of 25 points and 11 boards
while Leo Rodriquez brought the noise with 15 points
Both players showed they had ice running through their veins as they made the decisive free-throws in the closing seconds
Polkowice will be down after this defeat but not out of contention
They looked to be out of contention a few weeks ago, but Valencia Basket Club are waiting to pounce and potentially squeeze their way into the last eight if anyone around them slips-up. They completed a second huge home win on the spin as they wiped out the already qualified DVTK HUN-Therm 82-52

It was a well balanced offensive effort from the hosts as they dropped 9 triples and relied on a fine contribution from Merritt Hempe inside as she harvested 24 points with a dazzling 9 of 10 shooting effort
Cristina Ouvina pulled the strings with a super smart 10 points and 5 assists

Bridging the gap between the transport and energy sectors is crucial for the international transport community to achieve universal
These past couple of months, we explained how better data sharing can help countries achieve sustainable mobility. We also highlighted the potential of sustainable electric mobility
let us shift gears and talk about coordinating the transformation of the energy and transport sectors

Jennifer Okaima Piette: Tell us about the opportunity you’ve identified to address both energy and transport together. What does that mean for policymakers
Dramatic reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions will be needed in the coming decades to keep global warming well below 2°C and avoid dangerous climate change
Without rapid and ambitious mitigation action
transport emissions could more than double by 2050
Following the Avoid/Shift/Improve framework
policymakers can link the two sectors together and can:
Jennifer Okaima Piette: In terms of bridging the gap between the transport and energy sectors and helping countries achieve sustainable mobility
what one policy recommendation would you make to policy makers
Clotilde Rossi di Schio: Our working group focused on three policies from the Global Roadmap of Action toward Sustainable Mobility (GRA):
Expanding public transport helps cities contain their energy transport consumption and emissions
Shifting public transport vehicles to renewable energy can mean financial savings on fuel
Public transport infrastructure is even more important in the COVID-19 recovery context
where cities will need to avoid going from lockdown to gridlock
fuel sources need to be taken into account: while transport currently relies almost entirely on fossil fuels – the primary reason behind the sector’s high emissions
greener alternatives are already available (sustainable biofuels
Jennifer Okaima Piette: Where do we go from here
What is needed to translate this work into action
And how do we ensure that the policy recommendations are put into practice
Clotilde Rossi di Schio: Our working group has developed a digital toolkit with a four-step guide that can help navigate and leverage existing documents and resources
The next step for the working group is to identify a region to pilot this approach

Mersin celebrate stepping into the Quarter-Finals; Schio also advanceMUNICH (Germany) - Tango Bourges Basket
CBK Mersin Yenisehir Bld and Beretta Famila Schio all booked their places in the EuroLeague Women Quarter-Finals on Wednesday night
Bourges were the first to take their ticket and not only made it to the next phase, they extracted revenge for an agonizing one-point home loss earlier in the campaign with a stylish 75-66 road win over BC Polkowice
It was a typically strong team effort from the French club as they snapped the game open either side of the interval
while five players logged double-digit scoring returns
Anete Steinberga and Yvonne Anderson both scored 14 points
while experienced center Elodie Godin used her know-how to hand out 8 assists
Polkowice did rally late as Zala Friskovec found the hot-hand for 20 points
but that is now four straight defeats as they once again suffered from the absence of injured marquee star
The biggest drama came in Group B at Spar Girona, where the visiting Mersin got it done 75-73 in overtime as a block in the last second by DeWanna Bonner sent the Turkish team to the last eight of the competition
🥶 @DEEBONNER24 denies at the last second and @cukurovabasket gets the W (9-4) in a neck-to-neck game against Spar Girona 👏#EuroLeagueWomen pic.twitter.com/iENHQ6IiHi
It was a pulsating encounter as Mersin playcaller Roberto Iniguez got one over on his former team despite a super 24 points from Rebekah Gardner for the hosts
Chelsea Gray made a string of clutch plays and claimed 18 points
while Bonner had 12 points and 10 boards in addition to her last second intervention
The result also ensured Beretta Famila Schio advanced without bouncing a ball
although they will still be keen to get as high a placing as possible and face Kangoeroes Mechelen on Thursday night
Meanwhile, Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding cemented their status as the clear favorite to win it all as they completed a crushing 93-61 triumph at home to Valencia Basket Club
It was their 11th victory in a row in the competition and was never in doubt after a scorching 32-8 opening
it was the 12 assists for Fenerbahce debutante Courtney Vandersloot that was the story of the night
The playmaker completed a double-double with 11 points
while Satou Sabally and Breanna Stewart contributed 20 and 19 points respectively
ZVVZ USK Praha also completed a one-sided win as they coasted past Olympiacos SFP 85-54
thanks mainly to pouring in 26 points during the first quarter and an array of strong individual performances
with winger Valerine Vukosavljevic barely missing and netting 15 points and 8 boards
Perfumerias Avenida edged in the direction of a potential Quarter-Finals spot as they extinguished the last eight dream of rookies DVTK Hun-Therm at the same time by winning 70-61 in Miskolc
The depth of options from the bench was telling for the visitors with 26 of their points from that source
including 11 and 10 points from Leonor Rodriguez and Mariella Fasoula
Bridget Carleton was one of the starters who impressed with 15 points and 6 rebounds as Avenida won a third consecutive game
Finally, both Virtus Segafredo Bolgona and Atomeromu KSC Szekszard are already out of the Play-Offs race and they played their penultimate game of the Regular Season against each other. It was Virtus who collected an 89-59 win
prospering from a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds from Iliana Rupert
The Chicago Sky will be well-represented as Allie Quigley and Gabby Williams take part in the EuroCup Women semifinals
The first games of the EuroCup Women semifinals tip off on Thursday afternoon
Here’s what to expect and a preview of the final two series
which will be decided in a home-and-home format
The team with the most points after both games advances
it’s possible that there is a tie after regulation in the first game
There is only an overtime at the end of regulation of the second game if both teams end up with the same aggregate score
All games can be streamed for free on FIBA’s YouTube channel
(ANS - Schio) – A huge crowd gathered in Schio to greet Roberto Baggio
the legend of that beautiful football made of sacrifice
and winner of numerous national and international titles
to act as godfather at the inauguration of the synthetic field at the Schio Salesian Oratory
the ribbon marking the beginning of this new adventure
Many people wanted to be present for this occasion
both for the inauguration and the Salesian celebration
shake hands and have a word with the legendary striker
these days on an Extraordinary Visit to the "San Marco" Province of Northeast Italy (INE)
The new football field boasts a synthetic turf made of recyclable plastic and LED lighting
Those whom Baggio called "modern heroes," private entrepreneurs who decided not to look the other way
Organized by the Salesian Youth Sports Club "Concordia Football" with the Salesian "Don Bosco" Institute in Schio
the inauguration is part of the 120th-anniversary celebrations of the institute
"What has been inaugurated is not an empty container
but a place at the center of which are young people
be able to discover their most hidden talents," said the Mayor
A celebration within a celebration that the Rector of the center
wanted to define as "the fulfillment of a dream cradled for years
of which Roberto Baggio was the icing on the cake
Our goal is to offer young people a space that is increasingly within their reach for their formation and growth
The football field is the first step in a larger project
The school is now completed and the oratory will be finished next spring."
who also served as moderator for the event
"I got excited entering the field because I felt like playing
If only I had more knees..." Baggio confessed
with some nostalgia toward his 22-year career played at the highest level
Among the highlights was the reading by the youth and very young players from the football nursery
of the letter Baggio addressed to the youngsters a few years ago
Then the youngsters asked the champion questions
"The true beauty is to feel joy for what you do
To feel the pleasure of playing because football is something wonderful
"that you can achieve your objectives if you do not also go through failures
You have to learn from sacrifices and failures
I missed a penalty that caused us to lose the World Cup...."
the memorial plaque was unveiled for future memory
The celebration then continued with the inaugural game
the presentation of the teams in the arena
and an informal moment for greetings and informal exchanges with the guest of honor

Bakhita that welcomes those who knock on the door
she was kidnapped at the age of seven and sold several times on the slave market
Her captors gave her the name Bakhita ("lucky")
In 1882 she was bought in Khartoum by the Italian consul Calisto Legnani
who entrusted her to the family of Augusto Michieli and she became his daughter's nanny
When the Michieli family moved to the Red Sea
Bakhita stayed with her daughter at the home of the Canossian Sisters in Venice
Here she had the opportunity to learn about the Christian faith and
she decided to become a Canossian nun to serve God
who had given her so many proofs of his love
blessed in Schio (Vicenza) the sculpture "Let the oppressed go free"
who worked against slavery and human trafficking
protector of victims of human trafficking and also patron saint of Sudan
Created by Canadian artist Timothy SchmalzThe sculpture depicts the saint as she opens a trap door
from which emerge figures representing the various forms of trafficking that exist in the world
"that the people represented end up at the height of the trapdoor
at least those present here can see themselves represented
because I believe that we all have a slavery from which to free ourselves," and invited to "ask St
Bakhita to help us free ourselves from the closedness that we carry inside
From the individualism that prevents us from caring for others
Pope Francis continues to make an appeal about this: about the indifference with which we look at the reality of our day
Only if we free ourselves from this slavery - he concluded - will we truly be able to help others".Every February 8
the Church celebrates the World Day of Prayer and Reflection against Human Trafficking
was made possible thanks to the financial contribution of the Rudolph P
belonging to a family that emigrated to Canada from northern Italy
The work "Let The Oppressed Go Free" is inspired by a passage from the Bible (Isaiah 58:6)
from which Schmalz took the title: "This is the fast I desire
O oracle of the Lord: to loose the chains of wickedness
The sculpture installed in Schio is the original work
such as the one blessed by the Cardinal and Archbishop of New York Timothy Dolan at St
USA) last October or the one that will be installed at Regis College in Toronto (Canada) next July
The sculpture is related to 'Angels Unawares'
Peter's Square in Rome and blessed by Pope Francis in 2019
the Canadian artist expresses human vulnerability: in 'Angels Unawares' he highlights the suffering and lack of protection suffered by migrants
while in 'Let The Oppressed Go Free' he tries to give visibility to the problem of human trafficking
Present at the unveiling ceremony were: Mayor Valter Orsi; the donor of the work and president of the Rudolph P
Christopher Bratty; the author of the sculpture
Timothy Schmalz; the general superior of the Canossian Daughters of Charity
Mother Sandra Maggiolo; the international coordinator of Talhita Kum
Sister Abby Avelino; the parish priest and moderator of the Pastoral Unit of Santa Bakhita
Monsignor Carlo Guidolin; and the president of the Bakhita Schio-Sudan Association

Sami Whitcomb and Gabby Williams were among the many WNBA players to lead their teams to the semifinals
The FIBA EuroCup Women Quarterfinals are now complete
Here are the results from this week’s games and what’s next in the upcoming semifinals
Seattle Storm guard Sami Whitcomb scored 11 of her 18 points by going 4-of-9 from the three-point line as BLMA built on its Game 1 victory to advance to the semifinals
Luck or talent ? #EuroCupWomen@BasketLMA @SamBam32 @seattlestorm https://t.co/Kk1sRiJNYs pic.twitter.com/xCBhJRJxps
Bourges made a few comebacks in the middle of the second quarter and toward the start of the fourth
BLMA responded with a run to keep the game in its control
After losing the first leg last week, Famila Schio made up its four-point deficit by defeating Cukurova 81-73 to get to the semifinals
A 21-11 run in the second quarter helped make the difference in the game and quarterfinals series
.@familaschio head into the final break with a 10 point lead over @cukurovabasket ! Who will make it to #EuroCupWomen Semi-Finals ? https://t.co/Kk1sRiJNYs pic.twitter.com/KDM4Fw8txQ
For Cukurova, Kelsey Bone scored 19 points and Allie Quigley added 18. For Familia Schio, Alina Iagupova scored 25 points and Jantel Lavender scored 22 (on 11-of-15 shooting)
After blowing out Lyon last week, 80-57, Girona didn’t play with as much intensity but still walked into the semifinals with a comfortable 61-54 win
Given the advantage Girona came into the game with
they allowed Lyon to get a 32-26 lead at halftime
a 23-10 third quarter run in Girona’s favor ended any remote chance at Lyon making things interesting
Gabby Williams scored 16 points to lead Girona
Here is one of many easy baskets Williams had in the game:
Nadezhda won a second close game over Perfumerias to punch its semifinals ticket
Brionna Jones scored 19 points on 9-of-9 shooting and grabbed 14 rebounds in the win for Nadezhda. Jewell Loyd scored 17 points for Perfumerias
The EuroCup Women Semifinals will be a home-and-home series, like the quarterfinals. The matchups are as follows:
the "Don Bosco" oratory in Schio is exactly 120 years old
And it is still a point of reference for young people and all citizens
a garrison that attracts boys and girls and that which removes them all risk of deviance
to offer an even better service to the city’s most needy young people
“One hundred and twenty years is a long time,” begins Fr Enrico Gaetan
Rector of the Salesian institute whose socio-educational value has not lost its strength over time
The structure still retains the chief function of welcoming children
even those who come from marginalized situations and those at the risk of social exclusion
It is a structure made up of real and concrete people who make themselves available without time limits
“I have been here for two years now,” continues Fr Gaetan
“and the nice thing that happens to me when I go around town is hearing all the people who remember
that they passed through the oratory.”
the heart of the oratory remains young and beats for young people
which has been through all sorts of events
800 young people are enrolled in sports associations such as basketball
volleyball and football; 350 children attend the school
A multi-faceted oratory ranging from sports to cultural activities
the oratory celebrates today a special day
“The oratory was created to educate young people
Ever since the Salesians were called here there has always been an educational and formative work
Now this action is done with two divisions: the oratory
and the other with school and vocational training activity,” continues the Rector
The fundamental mission always remains the Salesian one: to go out to meet and welcome the most needy children
“The basic oratory still welcomes many young people who live on the street
they can find a place,” underlines Fr Gaetan
“There are still many cases of deviance
where adult supervision is lacking or due to single-parent ambiance
and the courtyard is the meeting point.”
the oratory looks forward to adapting to the needs of young people
A major renovation of the entire structure
the school and then the theater and cinema etc.
"You'll see how nice it will be!!!" is the motto that guides the renovation project
