Pope Francis on Holy Thursday extended his greetings to the Jewish community of Rome as it prepares to celebrate Pesach
“As the feast of Pesach approaches,” the Pope wrote to the Chief Rabbi of Rome
“I wish to extend my most cordial and fraternal greetings to you and to the beloved Jewish Community of Rome
This celebration recalls how the Almighty delivered His beloved people from slavery and led them to the Promised Land
May the eternal and merciful God be with you even today
and may He accompany your community with the abundance of His blessings
The Holy Father concluded his message with a personal request: “I ask you to continue to pray for me
May the Most High grant us to grow ever more in friendship
Rabbi Di Segni offered reciprocal good wishes for the Christian Easter
“As our respective Easter celebrations coincide,” he wrote
May the Lord bless our communities and strengthen our friendship
even in the difficult times we are currently facing.”

Jewish communities around the world joined together in a unified appeal for the release of all hostages held in Gaza
The initiative was launched by the Jewish Agency together with the World Zionist Organization
and Keren Hayesod to support Israel’s recovery and raise global awareness for the release of the hostages
This is the second year that the holiday celebrating the Jewish liberation from Egypt has been intertwined with the painful reality of the 59 Israelis held captive by Hamas for 18 months
“We all know how difficult it is to wish ‘Chag Sameach,’” said the president of the Union of the Italian Jewish Communities
with 59 hostages still trapped in Gaza in conditions of horror and slavery
every breath is tiring and the future is uncertain
But let us find the strength to breathe and continue our lives
drawing from this holiday that unites families and communities not just around the table
but around the values and hopes that define our paths and make us one people.”
“Our thoughts and closeness are with the grieving families
hoping to find relief in the collective affection and the dedication of so many courageous family members and volunteers
It is this reduction to the essence of lacerations
moral dilemmas and difficult choices that makes this Passover so important and meaningful
Maybe because the answers come from the youths and even the children.”

On the eve of the completion of the new European governance and the start of a new legislature which will have to face a very difficult historical phase
the issues of political weight and the democratic identity with which Italy presents itself are central
also in terms of coherence with which we sit around European tables
with respect to historical responsibilities
There is no Europe and no common democratic construction without a clear memory of the Shoah and a clear condemnation of every form of antisemitism – whether it comes from the nostalgic right of Nazism and Fascism or from the left that demonizes Israel and distorts the history of Zionism
providing every possible assist to Islamic terrorism
It is not enough to be elected with a party to the Italian or European Parliament to represent the needs of Italians: to hold that delegation of democratic trust and constitutional legitimacy
it is necessary to uproot without delay or political calculation every element based on discrimination and antisemitic hatred
The strong dismay linked to the spread of antisemitism in Italy
is compounded in these days by further concerns
nostalgically recall acts and figures of Fascism
spreading cults and ideologies of racial hatred
once again calling for racial persecution that became a tragic extermination
We cannot overlook the serious phenomena of other young people – students and associates – who for months
abusing every constitutionally guaranteed right and freedom
have called for the destruction of Israel and the boycott of Israeli universities and institutions
preventing students from regularly attending classes and causing significant damage
using spaces intended for peaceful coexistence and democratic dialogue
Today we live in an Italy that tends to make instrumental use of Israel and Jews
in a partisan dialectic that we strongly reject
because we do not intend to appear as soccer balls on which to count goals or own goals in the matches of hatred
just to recall the evenings of these championships
We reaffirm our commitment to serving the entire Italian democratic community: as a religious minority
we express both our appreciation for the constant attention of law enforcement and our aspiration to live our faith safely in this country
with the hope that Italy can democratically guarantee everyone to live with respect and pride in their choices
We once again address our appeal to those leading the Italian institutions
to speak out clearly and firmly against every form of racism and discrimination and to adopt the necessary measures to exclude any internal support for ideologies that undermine the credibility on which every Italian claim and position
Addis Ababa December 6/2024 (ENA) – In an effort to end the protracted suffering endured by communities in various parts of Oromia over recent years
former leader of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA).
accepted the government's call for peace and signed the peace agreement with Oromia Regional Government in Addis Ababa last week
OLA members in several areas have begun transitioning toward peaceful engagement
OLA leaders have visited development projects in Addis Ababa
In a press conference today Jaal Segni Negassa stressed that the Oromo people
have paid the heaviest price in this conflict
The people have been caught between internal conflicts within the OLA and military actions by the government
The rural and peripheral communities dearly suffered due to the conflicts within the group that deviated from the culture and values of the people
he remarked that choosing peace aims to end the people's suffering and bring about lasting national harmony
Jaal Segni also appealed to remaining OLA members in challenging circumstances to join the peace process.
Toronto – Ethiopian state media reported on Sunday that Oromia Regional State President Shimelis Abdisa signed a “peace deal” with Jal Segni Negassa
described as a senior leader of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA)
stated that the agreement was signed in Addis Ababa
The report framed the event as Jal Segni accepting the government’s call for peace
“I would like to thank you on behalf of the region’s government for coming and accepting the Oromo people’s call for peace,” Shimelis was quoted as saying
Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian Defense Force
attended the signing ceremony and reportedly thanked “those who came accepting the call for peace.” He emphasized the need to replicate similar agreements in other areas
Since large-scale war has been ongoing in the Amhara region since August 2023
the defense chief appeared to reference a potential peace deal in that region
suggest efforts to orchestrate a peace deal involving certain groups of Fano forces
the report provided no further details about this rumored deal
what aggravates the war are those who do not understand it
you deserve to be thanked for choosing the path of peace and coming here,” the defense chief added
casting doubt on whether the Oromia regional government’s claimed peace deal with the “senior Oromo Liberation Army leader” will effectively end the conflict and associated atrocities in the region
including massacres of civilians and kidnappings
The Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) released an official statement on Sunday via its social media page
dismissing the “peace deal” as a political maneuver
It argued that the individuals involved in the agreement had already been dismissed from the OLA “for actively undermining the organization [OLA] and have no influence over anything OLA.”
The statement called the deal a continuation of earlier failed peace attempts
describing it as “Orwellian doublespeak—a thinly veiled ploy to co-opt the OLA leadership with hollow promises of power while continuing to undermine the legitimate demands” of the Oromo people
The OLA also accused the government of orchestrating two recent incidents:
The alleged mass killing of civilians in Dera
intended to incite ethnic-based conflict between the Amhara and Oromo communities
The recent massacre of Orthodox Christians in Arsi
depicted as an attempt to incite religious violence between Christians and Muslims
While the OLA portrays itself as fighting for the Oromo people’s rights
the organization has been linked to numerous massacres of civilians in the Oromo region
mostly ethnic Amahra in several rural areas
Human rights organizations in Ethiopia have repeatedly reported these atrocities

Good sign and such bidding for peace should be considered good news
If this former ‘rebel’ had brought even one young man along with him out of roaming the wilderness
The only result that has come from the youth aimlessly roaming the bushes both in Amhara and Oromia regions is senseless destruction
freedom and democratic governance never came out of the barrels of the gun
With commanding guns individuals came out of the bushes as iron handed strongmen
They know it all in the bushes and they will know it all more than anyone else on this Good Earth after they enter the palace
you have to follow them to the letter and there is no such thing as amendment
They are the only ones anointed to act as checks and balances
They will deafen you with such tone deaf jargons as ‘perseverance and self sufficiency’
After a few years with the mantle they qualify themselves as gods
Noemi Di Segni is the president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities and has occupied that position since July 2016
she is actively committed to community heritage preservation
she has worked to combat the reemergence of antisemitism
She has a double university degree in business economics and law with a specialization in European studies on financial oversight

This weekend’s UFC on ESPN+ 37 fight card featured only one female bout
with Tracy Cortez taking on Stephanie Egger
I wanted to write about another female bout
My poll for which to break down was won by Karolina Wójcik and Sylwia Juśkiewicz
but my choice this weekend was to watch Ansgar Fighting League: Valkyries
Wójcik topped Juśkiewicz by unanimous decision in Poland
but I’m going to go over the AFL main event
which pitted Micol Di Segni against Audrey Kerouche
Cortez defeated Egger via unanimous decision
There really isn’t a ton to talk about here
That’s not because it was a bad or boring contest
but rather because Cortez fought such a beautiful and smart fight
One thing we found out after the fact is that Cortez’s corners did not tell her about Egger’s black belt
I said Egger would look to get it down and be on top
I also said that if she was put on her back
I said that while not expecting her to be on her back a whole lot
Cortez made it known right away that she wanted it on the ground and wanted to keep it there
Cortez had little trouble getting it there
Both women were wanting to get it to the ground
but a combination of technique and strength allowed Cortez to get her way
Egger is dangerous — more dangerous than Cortez knew
apparently — but Cortez did so well keeping herself out of any dangerous position
She would get the takedowns and immediately get herself to a safe position where she could look for things
like keeping her arms in tight and off the ground
to one-step-at-a-time movements in order to try to pass or improve her position
When Egger did attempt to go for something
Cortez was great at recognizing it and getting out of harm’s way as well
Cortez also did things that you might not notice at first glance
Egger finally looked to be in a position to get it down and end up in a good position
Cortez hooked her arms around Egger’s body and used it to help with the momentum
which carried her to where she ended up on top
It was just a beautiful all-around performance by Cortez
let’s talk about why I liked Cortez’s coaches not telling her that Egger had a black belt
The fight was accepted with Egger as a late replacement
Late replacements give you less time to strategize or put together a game plan
it can enter your head that your opponent is really good somewhere
so you don’t want to make a mistake there
or at least make you fight too “safe.” Cortez didn’t have that fear or worry in her head
when someone takes me down and maybe gets on top of me
where they actually are thinking of a way to avoid me doing something instead of worrying about doing something themselves
credit to Cortez’s team for what I thought was a really good decision
so she and Cortez are on a relatively similar timeline
Kunitskaya is a really tough match-up for Cortez
but it is a really good test to see just where Cortez stands in the division
Di Segni defeated Kerouche via TKO in round three of this AFL headliner
this bout was the same as the one between Cortez and Egger
It was about Di Segni doing really well with takedowns and Kerouche being unable to stop them or escape them
In addition to having no trouble getting it down
she had no trouble advancing to dominant positions
which I felt helped Di Segni get the takedowns with so much ease
you could sense that Kerouche was frustrated or confused as to what to do
Di Segni stood with her until she felt it was time to take it down
was maybe thinking that now she could engage in a striking battle
but that was smart on Di Segni’s part
because the takedowns are easier when the opponent doesn’t expect them
you had to be impressed with Di Segni’s ability to advance
She would get a good position and rain down ground-and-pound
Once Kerouche finally was able to defend or look to escape
Di Segni quickly advanced to a different position and again was back in a place to land hard shots
Di Segni had a great sense of when it was coming
where she set up shop and wasn’t going to be moved
It was just an all-around great performance by Di Segni
It’s hard to answer a question like this for a fight like this one
where the person isn’t signed to one promotion
You don’t know where they will fight next
if they’ll be back to defend their title
or if they are getting the call to one of the bigger promotions
so coming up with who is next is near impossible

Toronto – The militant ethnic Oromo nationalist group
has reportedly carried out a military attack in Sululta town
Located approximately 25 kilometers from the capital
the attack comes just days before the 38th African Union Heads of State Summit is set to begin in the city
Confirmed reports indicate that the town’s administration head
was killed alongside an unspecified number of his bodyguards
Multiple sources have corroborated this information
It also appears that other officials were killed during the attack
though the exact number remains unconfirmed
This attack follows less than a week after Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) announced a coordinated military operation with Kenya targeting the OLA in northern Kenya
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration and the Oromo regional government have claimed that the group
had been significantly weakened and was no longer capable of launching large-scale attacks
it is unclear whether armed groups under Jal Segni have defected and joined the other OLA faction led by Jal Mero to reinforce the latter’s operation in areas close to Addis Ababa.
The OLA faction under Jal Mero has released an update on social media regarding the Sululta attack
It partly reads: “While Abiy Ahmed is preoccupied with a performative military operation along the Kenyan border
the OLA’s Central Command executed a precise and strategic operation in Sululta
This operation successfully neutralized a high-ranking Woreda Prosperity Party official and administrator
the Woreda security chief and his entourage were captured as prisoners of war
along with several members of the regime’s security forces.”
The group also claimed to have launched a counter-offensive in the East Arsii Zone of the Oromia region around the same time as the Sululta attack
Social media footage shared by the OLA reportedly shows thousands of its fighters
The OLA operates extensively across much of the Oromo region and has been linked to the killings of thousands of ethnic Amhara civilians in rural areas
The group has also been implicated in widespread and recurring kidnappings
The Ethiopian government has openly acknowledged that certain elements within its administrative structure are facilitating the OLA’s military activities in the region
neither the federal government nor the Oromo regional government has issued an official statement regarding the Sululta attack or other recent incidents in the region

run-of-the-mill and certified act of terrorism
Such demonic act has also been common in the Amhara region also
Lenin and Mao in Tigray have been doing that since the 1970’s
EPRP and MEISON used to murder anyone they thought were standing on their ways and even those they saw badmouthing them in the 1970’s
All consecutive governments since the overthrow of the late Emperor were also part of such repugnant barbarism

In a message of good wishes sent to the Chief Rabbi of Rome
Pope Francis writes: "May the God of mercy accompany you with his blessing and grant you peace and harmony"

The Pope concludes with the traditional Jewish greeting of “Chag Sameach"

which reads: "In the run-up to the Easter festivities I thank you and offer my cordial wishes for joy

Rabbi Riccardo Di Segni said that rather than waiting for researchers to study the archives and reach their conclusions, the Vatican selectively published documents on its website in an effort to convince the public that Pius was on the side of the Jews.
“After saying that years of study would be needed, now the answers emerge on the first day like a rabbit from a magician’s hat,” he told the Italian news agency ANSA. “Please, let the historians get to work.”
At issue is whether Pius should be remembered for quietly hiding 4,000 Jews from the Nazis in convents and churches — knowing that denouncing Adolf Hitler would make their plight worse — or must be condemned for not speaking out as Jews were gassed in death camps.
The archives, which took 14 years to prepare and include 2 million documents, could help settle that question.
Pius was pope from 1939 until his death in 1958. A pope’s archives are usually kept sealed for 70 years after he dies, but Pope Francis sped up their publication, announcing, “The church isn’t afraid of history.”
As historians gathered in Rome over the weekend, ready to get in line Monday to view the archives for the first time, Vatican officials suggested the church had nothing to hide about Pius’ motives.
He “emerges as a great champion of humanity, a man deeply concerned about the fate of humankind during those terrible years, somebody who was very sensitive and concerned about those who were being persecuted, somebody who was also the object of the hatred of Nazis and fascism,” said Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Vatican’s secretary for relations with states.
On Monday, Vatican archivist Johan Ickx published screen shots of two documents and described a list found in the archives of 4,000 people, including baptized Italians of Jewish ancestry, but also some practicing Jews, who had asked the pope to be saved from Nazi roundups.
“The documents show the effort made to respond to the appeals for saving by the persecuted and needy whose lives were in danger,” Ickx wrote, adding the documents show how other states were reluctant to take in Jews.
“This sensationalism is highly suspicious, with files that are ready and easy conclusions laid out on a tray,” he said.
Historians have not treated Pius kindly. John Cornwell, the British author of the 1999 book “Hitler’s Pope,” believes Pius made it clear to Hitler he would not speak out against the Holocaust.
Before he become pope and took the name Pius XII, Eugenio Pacelli served as the Vatican’s ambassador to Germany from 1917 to 1929, witnessing the rise of Nazism before he became secretary of state in Rome.

Many think of alcohol as the main cause of liver complications
a major concern surrounding liver disease is its silent progression
Your liver could be losing its ability to filter out harmful substances from your blood long before symptoms appear
Most of the time you don’t know your liver has been harmed until you develop the advanced symptoms of cirrhosis
“That’s the tough part of treatment,” says Anurag Maheshwari
a gastroenterologist with the Institute for Digestive Health and Liver Disease at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore
“Convincing patients that they need to act now in order to avoid complications in the future can sometimes be a challenge
because they don’t feel any different today.”
increased bruising or itching — symptoms that are usually missed because they could be caused by other ailments
The liver is located in the upper-right portion of the abdomen
below the diaphragm and on top of the stomach
it weighs about three pounds and is shaped like a cone
it could be a million other things,” says Jamile Wakim-Fleming
director of the Fatty Liver Disease Program at Cleveland Clinic
lab tests or imaging studies are typically how patients first find out if they’re developing a liver problem or disease
the signs become clearer and warrant immediate medical attention
Older adults who are in good health are not inherently more prone to liver disease
But older age can amplify the severity of symptoms associated with liver problems
treatments may not work as well in older people as they do in younger people
Here are some common — and not so common — risks and how you can avoid or stop the damage
We all know that alcohol can be hard on your liver
Maheshwari notes that a safe alcohol limit may seem surprisingly low: no more than one alcoholic beverage a day (or seven drinks in a one-week period) for women and two or fewer drinks for men (or 14 drinks over a week’s time)
“When patients drink alcohol in excess
beyond the capacity of the liver to metabolize it
the excess alcohol is turned into fat and stored,” Maheshwari says
this fat interferes with the liver’s function and causes cell death.”
“But it depends on when it was caught,” says Wakim-Fleming
“A lot of people who have alcoholic liver disease end up needing liver transplants because they don’t stop drinking until [too] late.”
who may refer you to a specialist for evaluation and tests
which occurs when too much fat is stored in the liver
high cholesterol — common features of metabolic syndrome — are all known major risk factors for the development of fatty liver disease,” says Craig Lammert
associate professor of medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a practicing gastroenterologist and hepatologist at IU Health
these conditions cause fat to be deposited in the liver
anywhere from 15 to 50 percent of the nation’s population may have too much fat in the liver,” says Lammert
about 5 percent are at risk of inflammation that can damage the liver
“But we don’t always know who that’s going to be.”
Inflammation hurts the liver by way of a condition known as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)
“We’re hearing a lot about this because over the next few years
fatty liver disease will probably be near the top
cause for liver transplantation in this country,” Lammert notes
Researchers at the University of Missouri School of Medicine divided 24 patients with a type of liver disease caused by excessive fat buildup into two groups
One followed an intensive diet and exercise program for 10 months; the other followed the standard of care treatment
The diet and exercise group saw “significant and clinically meaningful” effects on their liver health
the researchers discovered with imaging and diagnostic biopsies
“Obesity and diabetes are going up in the country
and they are the two main risk factors for fatty liver disease,” said study author Elizabeth Parks
a professor of nutrition and exercise physiology at the University of Missouri School of Medicine
“We know diet and exercise can alleviate these health conditions
We were able to show in our research how diet and exercise should be the mainstay of treatment for the disease.”
Certain drugs and supplements can also injure your liver
Taking too much acetaminophen (Tylenol) is the most common over-the-counter risk
“People who overdose with Tylenol overwhelm the metabolizing system and drive liver toxicity,” Lammert says
including NSAIDs like ibuprofen (Motrin) and naproxen (Aleve)
can be similarly harmful under the same circumstances
If you are taking anything approaching the maximum dose of acetaminophen
be aware that the drug is often found in other products
such as multi-symptom cold and flu formulations
making it easy to unwittingly double the amount you are taking
So be sure to check product labels for acetaminophen
“antibiotics are probably the most important cause of liver injury we see,” Lammert says
This is particularly true of Augmentin (a combination of amoxicillin and clavulanate)
which is used to treat common bacterial problems like sinus and urinary tract infections
Liver complications affect an estimated 30,000 people a year taking this compound in the U.S
And although most of the harm is temporary
some is so damaging as to require a liver transplant
including bodybuilding and weight-loss supplements that contain green tea extract
linoleic acid and androgenic anabolic steroids
can harm the liver if taken above the recommended doses
Hepatitis B and C are viral infections of the liver that can lead to liver damage and even cancer
(The vast majority of people with hepatitis A recover with no lasting harm.) As with other liver diseases
people with hepatitis often don’t have symptoms and may not know they are infected
People contract hepatitis B (HBV) through blood
semen and other body fluids and by sharing personal items (needles
razors) with someone who has the infection
Hepatitis C (HCV) is contracted through contact with the blood of someone with HCV
often through the sharing of drug paraphernalia or through a transfusion of contaminated blood or organ transplant prior to 1992
when blood started to be screened for the virus
More than half of people with HCV develop a chronic infection
and up to 25 percent develop cirrhosis over 10 to 20 years
according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
particularly those born between 1945 and 1965
“The guidelines over the past 10 years or so are that all baby boomers should be screened for hepatitis C,” Lammert says
too few people who are eligible seek testing
“The good news is we now have good treatments to eradicate the disease.”
Genetic conditions like hemochromatosis and Wilson’s disease can contribute to the development of liver disease
autoimmune conditions may lead to liver disease and
The exact cause of autoimmune liver disease is not fully understood by doctors; however
it is theorized that factors such as infection
medication or chemical exposure could act as triggers
While there may be a genetic predisposition
the specific role of genetics in causing autoimmune diseases remains unclear
Treatment for autoimmune liver disease typically involves long-term management
and while the majority of patients respond well to treatment

patients should see a doctor as soon as they become concerned about their liver function
Make sure that routine liver tests are incorporated into physical exams so any abnormalities can be detected early
don’t necessarily correlate with liver injury
If levels are slightly elevated longer than six months
a full evaluation may be necessary to determine the underlying cause
A specialist may administer a noninvasive test
Treatment options for liver disease vary depending on the cause
with a liver transplant being the last resort
eliminating alcohol or inflammatory medications may be necessary
medications may be required to combat the virus
for individuals dealing with an autoimmune liver disease
a medication to suppress the immune system from attacking itself may be needed
genetic conditions often have limited treatment options
and a liver transplant becomes the ultimate recourse for those with end-stage liver damage

The management of infertile women affected by hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HH) or conditions mimicking it is particularly challenging
we aimed to synthesize the available evidence on the benefit (if any) of exogenous luteinizing hormone (LH) supplementation in this group of patients
Available data support LH supplementation in women with organic or functional HH
the benefit of exogenous LH on reproductive outcomes both in advanced maternal age patients and in cases of depletion of FSH and LH levels induced by GnRH analogues has not been demonstrated
the inhomogeneous study populations as well as the methodological heterogeneity between studies focused on women affected by conditions mimicking HH do not allow reliable conclusions to be drawn
Table 1 Causes of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in women
The management of patients affected by organic
functional or iatrogenic HH seeking fertility care is particularly challenging and several therapeutic strategies have been proposed
we aimed at evaluating the effect (if any) of exogenous LH supplementation on fertility related outcomes in women suffering from HH
The present narrative review was restricted to published research articles that reported data relevant to the effect of LH supplementation in women affected by HH or conditions mimicking HH,on fertility treatments outcomes
The statistical power of the study is limited and additional evidence would be needed
split dose is not considered ‘patient friendly’ and
no other researcher has further investigated this issue
The few data about the safety profile of both rFSH/rLH combination and hMG are reassuring. Further comparative studies are warranted to investigate the tolerability, acceptability, and other adverse events, such as the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome of rFSH/rLH compared to the conventional hMG regimens to stimulate HH patients (17)
Progestins recently emerged as alternatives to GnRH analogues. In fact, they were shown to strongly inhibit the pulsatile GnRH and LH secretion. Progestins are considered an effective option when a fresh embryo transfer (ET) cannot be performed (i.e., fertility preservation, anticipated hyper responders, preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), oocyte donors, etc.) (28, 29)
Even after the administration of progestins
in subgroups of patients an excessive suppression of LH secretion may occur
several authors speculated a beneficial effect of LH supplementation in women treated with GnRH analogues
Results of studies investigating this issue are summarized in the next paragraphs
This hypothesis could also be considered valid in protocols involving the administration of progestins but
Six RCTs investigated the role of rLH supplementation in women who underwent pituitary suppression with long GnRH agonist protocols (42–47)
A limitation of data published so far regarding the impact of LH supplementation in advanced maternal age women is the inclusion of studies with relevant methodological differences
the main one concerns the type of OS protocol adopted
it is well known that the timing of onset of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism depends on the type of GnRH analogue used
Researchers interested in this issue should keep these methodological aspects in mind when designing future study protocols
these recommendations cannot be applied to all patients and under all treatment circumstances
a daily LH dose of 25 IU is probably insufficient whereas one of 225 IU is associated with a higher risk of follicular atresia
with little being known about intermediate doses
much of the literature suggests it should be equal to 2:1
also this aspect has not been still completely clarified
These uncertainties should be the incentive for new investigations aimed at establishing criteria that could be useful for the personalization of treatment in this understudied WHO anovulation group
The evaluation of serum LH levels should therefore be the cornerstone of future studies’ design
Data on gonadotropin receptor genetic variants have yet to be considered preliminary. However, this is a fascinating and promising area of research. If the receptor affinities associated with the different polymorphisms were confirmed on a large scale, a new chapter would open in the study of the personalization of OS therapy (2)
The detailed analysis of the other patient categories in which the efficacy of LH supplementation has been investigated (i.e., women with a hyporesponse to exogenous FSH monotherapy and women classified as poor responders to ovarian stimulation (10)) is beyond the scope of this narrative review
it is however important to underline that patients with these characteristics should not be included in studies aimed at investigating the benefit of LH supplementation on HH to avoid the interposition of confounding factors
The present review has some limitations that need to be acknowledged
even though the search of studies was conducted meticulously
the present review cannot be considered compliant with the official guidelines for systematic reviews
we did not carry out a quantitative synthesis of available data
This also prevents us from providing information regarding statistical heterogeneity between studies
it must be recognized that the amount of data on the subject that could be pooled are still scarse and
the evidence provided by a possible meta-analysis on the subject would have a very limited reliability
studies should include information on endocrinological outcomes
assessing endocrine parameters such as serum testosterone
serum E2 and the E2/oocyte ratio could help in clarifying
the endocrinological profile during OS of women with depleted FSH and LH serum levels and
the stimulatory effect exerted by LH during OS on steroidogenesis in both theca and granulosa cells

Pope Francis greets leaders and members of the local Jewish community during his visit to the Rome’s synagogue on January 17
Pope Francis wished the Jewish community of Rome a happy Passover on Thursday and asked the chief rabbi to pray for him
In a message addressed to Rome’s chief rabbi
Pope Francis sent his “most heartful wishes for the feast of Passover,” referring to the Jews as God’s “beloved people.”
The Catholic leader also said he was praying for Di Segni
and asked the chief rabbi to do the same for him
his first official visit to a Jewish place of worship
In remembering with renewed gratitude our meeting on 17th January
when I was cordially welcomed by you and by the Jewish Community of the city in the Great Synagogue
I wish to express my most heartfelt wishes for the feast of Passover
It points out that the Almighty has released his beloved people from slavery and brought them to the Promised Land
May God also accompany you today with the abundance of his Blessings
as I assure you of my prayers for you: may the Almighty allow us to be able to grow more and more in friendship

Place and Signs) could become an exhibition even without the works presented
The semantically substantial title represents an exhibition organized on the occasion of the tenth birthday of the Pinault Foundation
director of Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana
The very elegant collection of remarkable works develops a narrative built by 36 artists
of which one – Carol Rama – lent the name of her work
The exhibition will be accompanied by an extensive program of events
performances and meetings open to the public that will take place at Punta della Dogana and at the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi
and will be held in Punta della Dogana in Venice
in order to better understand where the concept of the exhibition develops
it’s worth returning to its nominal origin – Carol Rama
then also on the international stage “transposes obsessions and fears in her works
in a language made of a surreal and provocative repertoire”
(exhibition catalog) “Place and Signs” by Carol Rama
creates the tension on the border between the object and abstraction
“Can be considered an imaginary map or a mysterious puzzle” (exhibition catalog)
The artist “pursued a creative approach to structure and composition
seasoning her art with unconventional means
provocative images and psychologically involved legends”
and her importance has only been recognized belatedly
the artist does not only an intra-reference within the current collection of Punta della Dogana
but also a comparison to the parallel exhibition of the Pinault Foundation
a monographic by Luc Tuymans titled “La Pelle”
It is rightly more than difficult to decide where to direct your steps in this period in Venice
but both exhibitions are definitely worth seeing
not only because they converse with each other
At the beginning of the visit in the gallery
we pass the red curtains of the American artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres
The work called “Untitled (Blood)” (1992) forewarns that an invasion takes place only a few steps ahead
the territorial expansion of the 17 newcomers
who were not part of the Pinault collection before (including Berenice Abbott
Hicham Berrada and Edith Dekyndt) is not bloody
and the two plans of the extensive exhibition of Punta della Dogana manages to gather everyone showing them identical respect
Returning to the episode: the aforementioned Felix Gonzalez-Torres curtains enter into a planned dialogue with the American artist Roni Horn
AIDS is at the center of the life and work of Gonzalez-Torres
which also takes the path of political activism
developed in particular with the “Group Material” (the 1980s New York art collective
whose members worked collaboratively to initiate education community and cultural activism)
Gonzalez-Torres’ first work at the entrance to the exhibition titled “Untitled (7 Days of Bloodworks)” (1991) is the discreet and minimalist investigation into the effects of the progression of the AIDS virus in the blood over a period of a week
The powerful “Untitled (Blood)” (1992) becomes a metaphorical representation of the same blood
described by a curtain of plastic beads stretched from one side of the room to the other
The red and white pearls respectively evoke the red and white blood cells
at the borders of abstraction and autobiography
requires the physical participation of the visitor
invited to cross it in the proper sense of the term
He then performs a sort of empathy sharing and ceremony
tragic and gentle”- we read in the exhibition catalog
it’s one of the most emblematic works of the whole gallery
exhibited for the first time at its inauguration
The work in the first room merges with the surrounding environment
in fact Horn describes her works as contextual
The homage to the poems of Emily Dickinson
a continuous source of inspiration for the artist
led her to create the entire “White Dickinson” series
applied to aluminum bars in the exhibition space
“Well and Truly” (2009-10) is exhibited in the huge and lucid central hall
It can be estimated that the collection of ten colossal
transparent and delicate glass blocks of different shades of blue
have never seen the most suitable space for themselves
“Well and Truly” is a long-term water research
The mental adventure was deepened when she focused on the Icelandic landscape
the “innumerable shades of water and the changing geography of human characteristics”
(exhibition catalog) “My ambitions are based so much on dialogue with my circumstances
I wouldn’t say that there is only one thing that attracts me to the water
and again.” Horn’s Renaissance approach doesn’t let us to describe her too narrowly
She is also a collector and has lent some works for “Place and Signs”
The great names (and the great works) don’t terminate here
On the opposite side of the first room we already see: Constantin Brancusi
The remaining thirty artists require more hours of research
On the spine of the polar sides (in color and in heat) of Roni Horn and Felix Gonzalez-Torres
the curators have built an appreciable body
thanks to the quantity of the works and the formal frugality of the language
the graceful “Place and Signs” is a pleasant collective exhibition as a whole

to the Great Synagogue in Rome; a place which was built as a sign of freedom after centuries of restrictions and humiliations; a place visited by kings
ministers; offended by the Nazis and stained with blood by Palestinian terrorists; but especially a house of prayer where the Jewish people in Rome have celebrated and still celebrate the most important moments of their private and collective life
Today the Temple is grateful to receive the third visit of the Pope and Bishop of Rome
According to the juridical rabbinic traditions
an act repeated three times becomes chazaqà
Clearly this is a concrete sign of the new era
The breakthrough produced by the Vatican Council fifty years ago was confirmed by numerous and fundamental acts and declarations
which opened up and established a new path to mutual knowledge
Pope Francis is welcomed by the Jewish Community of Rome
We receive him in this community of faith with its ancient and sacred vocation which
The people here today are the historical memory of this community
the unfortunately very few and last survivors of the horrors of the extermination camps
those wounded by terrorist attacks but also the witnesses and the protagonists of the intense organizational and religious life of this community
A community that resists the seductions of this time and invests its energy on its spiritual and social growth
It is a positive and constructive testimony of its values in a society for which it difficult to find its own way
there are here many representatives of Jewish people from Italy and from the rest of the world
Israeli and European rabbinic delegations and representatives from the Israeli government and state
And also many people who actively work to strengthen the friendly relations between the two faiths
this event is not restricted to the Jewish community that is geographically closest to Catholicism
It reaches out to the rest of the world with a benevolent message
Pope Francis’ visit takes place at the beginning of a special year for Christians
The Bible founded the Jubilee that the Jewish people were not able to celebrate in line with the prescribed rules because of particular historical and political conditions; but the original idea of the Torah is still valid
it is a model to reshape society on the basis of dignity
the Jewish people keep counting the sabbatical years; when multiplied by seven they represent the foundation of the Jubilee; during the sabbatical year – the last one has just finished – the land of Israel must rest and debts must be redeemed
We will soon celebrate the New Year of the Trees
connected to the agricultural cycle of the land of Israel
Many signs of the essential and religious relationship that we have with our promised land
Understanding this link should not be difficult for those who respect to the Bible
In these days in which the Christians are celebrating this special year devoted to mercy with its ancient references and new meanings
at the beginning of the door opening ceremony
an ancient liturgical formula was recited “open the doors of justice”
A Jew knows that these words are familiar; it is a quotation from Psalms (118:19) pitchù li sha’arè tzèdeq
The event of Christianity devoted to mercy maintains a relationship with its biblical origins; it uses the verses from the Psalms
focusing in particular on the theme of justice which cannot be separated from mercy
It shows that these separate and very different routes of the two religions do share a common heritage considered to be sacred by both of them
This separation is rooted in ancient history
Of course this division has promoted the growth of great autonomous spiritual worlds
Each one of us has a different view of how this may happen
we must find a way to relate to one another
The second sign of this visit is dictated by the urgency of the times
Europe and many other parts of the world are besieged by wars and terrorism
Today the sad novelty is that after two centuries of disasters produced by nationalism and ideologies
violence has come back and it is fed and justified by fanatic visions inspired by religion
And again this triggers religious persecutions
In the absence of other references and excuses
this destructive drive finds it support and nourishment in religion
a meeting of peace between different religious communities
as the one that is taking place today here in Rome
is a very strong sign against the invasion and abuse of religious violence
We do not receive the Pope to talk about theology
faith is not a commodity to be exchanged or to be negotiated on a political level
We welcome the Pope to reiterate that the religious differences
these must be enthused with friendship and collaboration and the experiences
traditions and great ideas which characterize our identity must be used to serve our communities
we must have our voice heard against any attack with a religious nature and for the defense all religions
we must be together not only to speak out against the horrors; we must work and cooperate on a daily basis
Our Jewish community invests all its resources to ensure its future and it carries out this commitments with a harmonious relationship with the society to the benefits all its members
we read the chapters of the book of the Exodus that speak about the showdown between Moses
who asks the Pharaoh to free the Jews from slavery
who opposes this request with all his means
nor fortunately do we have a Pharaoh to fight
the very history of this Synagogue shows that a benevolent King can turn into persecutor
proves that the strength of the spirit is able to triumph and to crack even the strictest systems and the harshest regimes
We must be aware of our strength and trust our good values
To conclude I would like to share with you a quotation
the words of the invocation we recite everyday at the end of the ‘amidà prayer
according to the Italian rite: “let the doors of the Torah
of love and of mercy and gratitude be open in front of You”
“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight
Let’s stop confusing the Ethiopian flag with the Insignia and Emblems of Ethiopia’s changing regimes
Each Ethiopian regimes from Emperor Menelik to Emperor Haile Selassie and from the Derg Regime to the TPLF regime adopted their own insignia and emblems and inscribed it on the Ethiopian flag
Those insignias and emblems were changing as the regimes change
Let’s briefly see the insignias and emblems of the past Ethiopian regimes
it was the initial of Menelik himself in Amharic
it was some sort of “hebretsebawinet” designed by artists
it is the star dubbed as “Ambasha”
There is no surprise to see the Ethiopian people reject and demand the removal of the emblem of the hated and most repressive and criminal group in Ethiopian history
yellow and green Ethiopian flag without the TPLF insignia and emblem is part of the resistance movement and part of the regime change demand for the last 27 years
It seems near certain that the TPLF regime emblem will be removed from the flag in a very short time once the transformation process is completed
The TPLF regime insignia on the Ethiopian flag and the flag itself is not one and the same
The Ethiopian people can rightly and legitimately reject the TPLF regime insignia
rejecting the Ethiopian flag or associating the Ethiopian flag with one particular regime
ethnic group or religion or region is entirely another thing
The Ethiopian flag is the flag of all Ethiopians
and ethnicity died for this flag and for the honor of it
Ogaden and many other battles that kept Ethiopia independent
sovereign and proud are fought under this flag
All the heroes and heroines we have as a people and as a country died for this flag
That is totally unacceptable and morally reprehensible
the Ethiopian flag is not Ethiopia’s flag only
the Yellow and the Green colors are now African colors
Most African countries adopted these colors as the flag of their liberation struggle inspired by Ethiopia’s victory at the Battle of Adwa
All Ethiopians should be proud of this magnificent history
Stop Confusing the Ethiopian Flag with the Insignias and Emblems of Ethiopia’s Changing Ethiopian regimes or by associating the Ethiopian flag with one particular regime
religion or ethnicity when the flag has no particular association with any one of these groups
and activists should behave responsibly and act prudently in matters of national concern such as the flag and national unity and harmony among our diverse
multicultural,s multireligious and pluralistic country
__ Editor’s note : Birhanemeskel shared this post first on his facebook page
“…the hated and most repressive and criminal group in Ethiopian history
Worse than Communist Derg’s Red Terror that massacred over 100,000 Ethiopians
charging victims’ families for the bullets
Although I don’t agree with some of the ideas in the article
I fully support that the real and uncontested flag of Ethiopia is the Green
Red without any symbols of any govt or group on it
I want to ask the writer and this website to push for a refferendum vote to be made by the people so we can constitutionally enshrine this “clean” flag as our flag forever
I would like to ask the writer to clarify the following questions: What does a flag symbolise or stand for
Who has the right to choose and adopt the flag of Ethiopia
It is mind boggling how trivial things are over exaggerated
The issue of the flag does not deserve the time and energy rendered towards this cause
only so that they see their views represented
Mr Gurhan’s questions above are worth pondering on
The notion that we continue the historical trend very well outlined by the author of this article and change the looks of our flag with ever administration is a senseless act
and needles to say would draw no consensus among Ethiopians
Debating over such a trivial matter would only open a pandora box that would instead of bridging among the various diverse Ethiopians would only further introduce a rather more divisive opinions of what should be done about it
For those who continue to push for the green
let us not continue this nonsensical drum that might only drive a wedge among our very own opinionated Ethiopians
That flag was imposed on my ancestors after Menelik’s empire expansion
People died under that flag once it had already been imposed on them
A flag is not a cocktail to enjoy when you feel like it
No government should change the look or the symbol it represent unfortunately so far it has been changed four times
The flag existence MUST be engraved in writing under the new constitution hopefully soon

Later today Diana will be joining 200 experts in medieval philosophy for an international convention at the University of Cologne
and although it has been very tough to find a time for the interview due to her busy schedule
she seems relaxed and eager to share her experience
When she moved from Rome to Cologne four years ago
yet today she gives lectures and writes essays almost like a native speaker
she was offered a research job at the University of Cologne
She was then able to continue her research on the perception of Maimonides’s work in the Latin world
To do so she works with manuscripts from the 12th and 13th century
translating and interpreting these historical documents
especially its delicious food and distinctive warm-hearted people
During her stay she has noticed the Germans are very precise and rigid not only with their work
but with their leisure as well: “At 5 p.m.
Outside is cloudy – one of Cologne’s aspects she dislikes the most – and Diana has to leave for the convention
Before ending the interview she confesses that after a few more years of research in Germany
Yet she will open a new chapter of her life enriched by the stimulating experiences she’d had abroad
