Scottie Scheffler finishes Byron Nelson -31 for first win of ’25
This article recounts a holiday afternoon spent in the small town of Senigallia in Central Italy
home to Uliassi—a three-star Michelin haven on the Adriatic coast
the stage had already been elegantly set by Uliassi’s Classic tasting menu—a meticulously choreographed sequence of land and sea
A hazelnut wafer with rabbit liver and Kir Royal opened the experience
followed by seared cuttlefish with pork cheek oil
and marrow bone with cod tripe carried the story forward
We chose both mains: wild sea bass with white wine sauce and morel mushrooms
The menu offered a perfect canvas for an all-white wine pairing I curated from the list: two Verdicchios from Le Marche and two South African Chenin Blancs
The contrast between the brisk Adriatic whites and the lush Cape wines not only highlighted each bottle’s personality—it elevated every dish
We began with the 2023 Verdicchio di Matelica by ColleStefano—bright and invigorating
Its racy acidity and subtle salinity mirrored the sea and cut through the richness of the sea urchin and anchovy sauce
The finish carried a whisper of almond bitterness—a signature Verdicchio trait that made the next bite even more welcome
Paired with the red shrimp—spiced with ginger
and cinnamon—it echoed and elevated each aromatic layer
The wine’s roundness complemented the sole and bergamot beautifully
with its floral citrus notes creating a seamless harmony
these two Verdicchios told a story of place: Matelica’s inland tension and Jesi’s coastal warmth—both rooted in the same soil but speaking in different tones
The 2021 Mullineux Chenin Blanc from Swartland
It stood resilient against the smoke and salt of the eel-infused spaghetti with clams
its fruit lifting the roasted tomato sweetness while its acidity sliced through the richness
We also paired it with the marrowbone “marinara”—a dish that danced between surf and turf
The Chenin’s silkiness and subtle herbaceous core resonated with the anchovy-tomato notes
making it one of the most surprising and rewarding pairings of the afternoon
Its gentle acidity and leesy texture melded effortlessly with the sea bass
echoing the dish’s white wine sauce and morels
It brought grace and restraint—more a whisper than a flourish
What struck me was how naturally each wine intertwined with the meal
The Verdicchios were pure expressions of maritime Italy—clean
The shift from one to the other was not jarring
these four wines didn’t just complement the food—they told a story of craftsmanship
and the joyful ambition behind Mauro Uliassi’s cuisine
The lunch was an unfolding conversation between regions and intentions
It was an afternoon well spent with the soul of Senigallia

as part of the celebrations for the centenary of Mario Giacomelli’s birth
is hosting the exhibition Giacomelli’s Darkroom
curated by Katiuscia Biondi Giacomelli and in collaboration with theMario Giacomelli Archive
The exhibition brings together about one hundred original photographs
spanning Giacomelli’s entire production from the 1950s to 2000
the year of his death. The exhibition path kicks off with the multimedia installation Under the Skin of the Real
which reproduces the artist’s creative flow
The audience will be guided by the photographer’s own voice
taken from an interview for Radio 3 Suite in 2000
as moving images and written fragments of thoughts alternate
evoking his profound and poetic vision of photography as a tool for exploring reality and interiority: here
the images follow the same motions of the vertical surges and falls into the void with which Giacomelli chased the Infinite and mimic his gestures in the darkroom
with the sensitive paper held at an angle to immerse the world in vertigo
The focus of the exhibition is the darkroom
the place where Giacomelli shaped his imagery
handwritten notes and interviews documenting the artist’s creative process
which testify to his relentless experimentation
Particular attention is devoted to the relationship between photography and poetry
a founding element of Giacomelli’s work
Works such as Io non ho mani che mi accarezzino il volto (I have no hands to caress my face)
inspired by the texts of Father David Maria Turoldo from which the famous photographic series of Pretini (1961) originated and which opens the exhibition
Cardarelli’s Passato (1986) and Edgar Lee Masters’ Spoon River Anthology (1971-73)
testify to how poetry has always been an inexhaustible source of inspiration and introspection for the photographer
the exhibition aims to present the inner world of Mario Giacomelli
while starting from autobiographical vicissitudes
speaks with the ancient and infinite voice of humanity
anthropomorphized landscapes become human portraits
interweaving memory and matter in a continuous dialogue
emerges as a constant and foundational presence in her artistic vision
interrupts the darkness to illuminate small and precious fragments of reality
offering a vision between the concrete and the metaphorical
in the photographic reproductions commissioned by Guido Harari on the occasion of the editorial project Nella camera oscura di Mario Giacomelli
L’antro dello sciamano (Rizzoli Lizard
produced in collaboration with Rita and Simone Giacomelli’s Mario Giacomelli Archive
Giacomelli’s Camera Oscura is not intended to be just an exhibition
but a journey into the creative universe of an artist who knew how to speak to the soul of man through photography
transforming each image into a fragment of interiority and poetry
As part of the Celebrations for the first centenary of the birth of Mario Giacomelli
the Mario Giacomelli Archive will propose a series of exhibitions
within a more complex and articulated program
to document the entire production of the great photographer
The first two major exhibitions will be those in Rome and Milan; the first in Rome at Palazzo delle Esposizioni
followed shortly after by the one at Palazzo Reale
to continue with an exhibition calendar that will touch on various national and international venues to conclude in 2027
The exhibition was produced as part of the Senigallia City of Photography project promoted by the Marche Region and was organized by the City of Senigallia and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi
Hours: Thursday through Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m

Bianconeri now five points from the playoffs and seven from the playouts, with four games left until the end of the season. And a success in Senigallia could guarantee the arithmetic in advance salvation, the first real objective of the company of owner Graziano Giordani.
"It won't be easy," admitted the striker. Lorenzo Didio author against Chieti of the classic ex-goal – There are four games left and they will all be 'battles'. Playing in Senigallia is never easy, but it will certainly be a good game between two teams that will want to win to ensure their safety. We will have to grit our teeth and not get caught out like we did against Chieti".
Leading 2-0 we should have been more careful and instead that goal by Donsah, conceded in the minute of injury time in the first half, reopened the game and restored confidence to the guests who until that moment had done very little to recover the result. Then - Didio added - in the second half they attacked a lot and we fell back a bit perhaps due to tiredness and in the end we conceded an avoidable goal on another set piece".
"This week we talked about it and there is still a lot of regret even though Chieti is a strong team with excellent individuals. Playing at the Del Duca – concluded Didio – was truly exciting. A historic, important stage, which is not always part of our daily life and which made us experience a unique emotion".
Didio also says: "We are very grateful to Ascoli Calcio and the municipal administration that has given us this opportunity that we will have again against Teramo next Thursday, in the midweek round, and then against Sora in the last match of the championship".
But sometimes, stolen art does get recovered.
On Friday one famous example debuts at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. Thieves burgled “Senigallia Madonna,” a Renaissance masterpiece, in the 1970s, but it was rescued by an Italian police force known as the Italian Art Squad.
Until this week I had no idea an Italian Art Squad even existed. Then I met with its deputy director, Luigi Cortellessa, at the MFA.
Today about 280 officers work closely with INTERPOL, UNESCO and the FBI to track down stolen art. Cortellessa says the corps' 12 units are very busy; he listed off some reclaimed items: “7,000 antique books last year, 100,000 archived documents, many, many counterfeited goods, antique coins…”
Also countless old films, archeological objects and, of course, paintings.
“It’s not important the number of the objects,” Cortellessa clarified. "It is important the history, the tradition that every object gives us. Our power is in the passion for our activities.”
Cortellessa flew to Boston to unveil one of Italy’s most famous stolen-then-recovered paintings: the "Senigallia Madonna" by Renaissance master Piero della Francesca. Thieves ripped the two-feet-by-two-feet work off the walls of an Italian palace in 1975.
MFA curator of paintings Frederick Ilchman knows the story well. It starts on Feb. 5 when the crooks took advantage of scaffolding on the exterior of the famous museum. He said:
This is the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche in the Palazza Ducal in Urbino. It’s a beautiful 15th-century palace, high up over the town. Thieves scaled the scaffolding, broke in, and were able to remove two paintings by Piero della Francesca — this and another one — plus a portrait by Raphael.
Like at the Gardner museum here in Boston, the Italian thieves sliced the paintings out of their frames. The world was shocked.
Ilchman calls Piero della Francesca’s "Senigallia Madonna" one of the 15th-century’s most important pictures. The artist is something of a cult figure, and Piero fans even make pilgrimages along what the curator calls the Piero della Francesca trail.
“They love tracking down his works and sort of going down on their knees in awe at how beautiful and serene the paintings were — their geometry, their sense of balance and order — and you could even say that the burglary in 1975 was the kind of culmination of the fad for Piero della Francesca,” Ilchman said.
A year after the "robbery of the century" (as it was referred to at the time) the Italian Art Squad received a tip from a Roman antiques dealer and the police recovered the lost Piero (many fans refer to the artist by his first name).
“It’s perhaps his last finished work, and it’s an ostensibly simple composition,” the curator explained. “You’ve got the Virgin Mary holding the Christ child and two attendant angels. It’s extremely quiet and part of the magic of Piero is that the figures indeed seem to be enacting an incredibly slow-motion ritual.”
Ilchman reminded me that the Gardner museum has a fresco by Piero (it's one of only seven works by Piero in American museums) but the priceless paintings stolen from that museum are still at large. Even so, Cortellessa, of the Italian Art Squad, said he has hope.
“My experience tells me that it is possible to recover stolen art goods," he said. "By Raphael, Van Gogh…” and, of course, Piero della Francesca.
For now, though, the cultural police officer is proud to bring Italy's reclaimed masterpiece to the U.S. for the first time. The "Senigallia Madonna" is on display at the MFA through mid-January.
This program aired on September 13, 2013. The audio for this program is not available.

Eleven people so far confirmed dead in floods that have forced climate crisis onto agenda before next week’s election
Her face and clothes splattered with mud, Isabella Puttilli, 74, fought back her grief as she sifted through the ruins of her home, among the dozens destroyed by catastrophic flooding that struck Italy’s central Marche region on Thursday night
I need to throw it all away.” But her emotions gave way as she entered the bedroom

really precious items that I’ll never get back.”
where five of the 11 people so far confirmed to have died in the floods lost their lives
The pair had been trying to move their car from an underground garage when the banks of the Misa river
which flows just a few hundred metres behind their apartment building
sending a deluge of water into the garage and trapping them inside

whose grandson launched a desperate plea for help on Facebook as the lashing rain almost wiped Pianello di Ostra off the map within a couple of hours
“Ferdinando used to have a driving school and he was my instructor,” said Pietro
who was standing outside his home as diggers cleared away mountains of debris and destroyed furniture
It was the worst storm to affect Marche since 2014
with 420mm of rain falling within nine hours – a third of the region’s yearly average
The regional capital of Ancona and areas surrounding it were also badly affected
widely described as a “tsunami” and “apocalypse”
The two people still missing are eight-year-old Mattia Luconi
who got swept away from his mother’s arms as they tried to emerge from their car
But as Marche residents mourn the victims and come to terms with the consequences of the storms, anger is rising, most of it aimed at politicians as Italy heads towards general elections on 25 September
nobody will go and vote,” said Anna Rita Camerucci as she cleaned mud off important documents in her wrecked home
People are very angry – there was no warning [of the intense storms] and no preparation.”
Italy is very vulnerable to climate change
with extreme weather events occurring more frequently
protracted heatwave this summer followed a mild winter with lower-than-average rain and snowfall
11 people were killed when a huge mass of ice from a glacier on the north side of the Marmolada mountain in the Dolomites broke away
the seas surrounding Italy were five degrees warmer than average

Photograph: Roberto Salomone/The Guardian“It’s possible that the very warm sea fuelled this storm,” said Luca Mercalli
president of the Italian Meteorological Society
the leader of the centre-left Democratic party (PD)
asked why the fight against the climate crisis was not the first priority
“They speak about it now as they just needed to share a couple of words in the middle of an emergency,” added Mercalli
“But they don’t think it’s an important problem
they see it as an obstacle for the economy.”
Free daily newsletterOur morning email breaks down the key stories of the day
telling you what’s happening and why it matters
Mercalli was among the scientists who launched a petition
in August urging political leaders to make the climate crisis a priority in their election programmes
He said the only political force truly committed to the issue was, obviously, the tiny Greens party, which is part of a coalition with the PD. The PD, in turn, also has the environment high up on its government programme, while a coalition made up of the far-right Brothers of Italy
League and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia
which is forecast to seize a landslide victory in the elections
gives the theme a token mention towards the end of its objectives
the vice president of the Emilia Romagna region who is running as an independent candidate on the PD’s democratic and progressive list
argued that from her group’s side there was a “strong awareness” of the need to act immediately
“What happened in Marche is terrible,” she said
“Again there are victims of the climate emergency and of extreme weather events that are more and more frequent and which have a hard impact on the population.”

she said that over the past decade Italy had spent six times more on repairing the damage after extreme weather emergencies than what it had spent on prevention and mitigating the damage
in terms of limiting the impact these extreme weather events have,” she said
who will now go to live with her daughter in a nearby town
“Italy has had several disasters similar to this
I don’t believe politicians anymore and won’t be voting.”

the festival has grown to become the biggest international celebration of rock ‘n’ roll culture in the world
From music concerts to dance boot camp lessons
the schedule is jam-packed with entertaining activities spread across several venues in the city
against the background of incredible historical landmarks
the majestic Garibaldi Square for the main stage
the famous “La Rotonda” on the pier or the joyful and relaxing “Mascalzone” and “Hawaiian Beach” by the sea
Summer Jamboree hosted an incredible roster of international artists keeping alive the history of rock ‘n’ roll in all its forms
The most important special guest was Pokey LaFarge
American singer-songwriter of the class of 1983
He performed a mixture of pieces from his melancholic Rock Bottom Rhapsody album to his more upbeat In the Blossom of Their Shade record
which showcases the positivity of coming out of the darkness and into the light
with melodies that can glide throughout a composition from the swing and blues-infused songs of his earlier work
a full lineup of free-entry concerts were presented on the main stage by the extravagant American performer with curly moustaches and striped suites
who had people’s boots tapping playing authentic hillbilly bop
accompanied by the house band The Good Fellas
who together they played a rare and explosive original mix of Latin jazz
rhythm ‘n’ blues and jump blues
which combined a passion for hot jazz and New Orleans jazz
audiences could enjoy the reunion of The Di Maggio Bros
the only Italian band featured in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
all the evenings started in the late afternoon with a free dance class open to everybody
which then continued with a full bill of performers and DJs
women could get their full retro-style looks done
while men could get their 50s-style haircuts and moustaches at the barber shop
or all could purchase collectible memorabilia at the Rockin’ Village Vintage Market
featuring more than 70 selected exhibitors of vintage clothing
Amongst the show highlights at the Rocca were The Kabooms from Spain
with lead Matt Olivera giving an electrifying performance that mixed rock ’n’ roll
a tremendous pianist resembling an early-years Jerry Lee Lewis
while Jay Ernest from the US played an incredible tribute to Johnny Cash
There were no idle times for those also after some daytime stimulation: the “Hawaiian Beach” transformed a piece of the Velvet Beach (known for its fine sand)
joyful rock ‘n’ roll DJ setting
while the historical beach establishment The Mascalazone (The Scoundrel) was the place to be for some light-hearted dancing in Hawaiian shirts and vintage swimming suits
The brand-new event for this edition was the Fearless Devid Motordrome
it’s one of the few surviving motordromes existing worldwide
The over 100-year-old spectacle features motorcycles stunt-riding inside a giant wooden barrel
with a diameter of ten metres and a height of five metres
not everybody could afford to go to watch motorcycle races
and could only see them in wooden-track velodromes
the Fearless Devid Motordrome has been brought back to life
and spectators can see pristine original 1926 Indian motorcycles whiz around the track in a unique and not-to-be-missed experience
The loud rumble of the vintage motors made the walls vibrate powerfully
so much so that some of the audience would suddenly retreat in fright
while the most audacious ones would offer tip money
which the riders were literally snapping from their fingers
fearlessly reaching the top edge of the barrel at full speed
Rock ‘n’ roll friends and devotees will also remember that Elvis Presley also tried his hand at being a motordrome pilot in the 1964 film Roustabout…
this was not the only treat: the Foro Annonario offered the base for an exhibition with exclusively pre-1969 American cars from the prestigious collection of Nicola Bulgari
patron of the legendary Roman jewellery and lifestyle firm
voluptuous fenders and hand-waxed finishes gleamed in the sunshine
while the American sedans and cabriolets and convertibles
seemed just out of a classic Hollywood film
and rumour has it that in each of his cars
there must always be two things: keys in the ignition and a pocket-handkerchief
there were international icons of the burlesque and cabaret world
chanson Française French singer Ô De Mon Chéri
Ruby Rudy from Spain and American Russell Bruner
who each enchanted the audience with incredible shows
the Hera Dance Contest gave the opportunity to people from every level to compete and showcase their dance skills
judged by the wonderful dance school teachers
in collaboration with Adriatik Ink Tattoo Studio
returned to the Foro Annonario to leave an indelible mark by tattoo wizards
And for those who love watching shows but don’t feel like taking the plunge into dancing
there was the Dance Show performed by professional dancers
also returned to keep the crowds dancing nonstop from midnight until early morning
As the organisers say: “Rock ’n’ roll is for everybody!” and they made sure their festival truly embraced this motto
offering a wide range of activities and entertainment suitable for everyone
Senigallia is also a wonderful holiday destination for an international crowd (especially from the UK
with Ancona airport only 20 mins away) who particularly love to dress up and party
Summer Jamboree has a truly vintage soul for those who love a “blast from the past”
Don’t miss out on their Winter Jamboree Festival in Parma in December

Giuseppe and Emanuele Cavalli Photographers
A tribute that Senigallia City of Photography wants to pay to two of the finest Italian photographers of the 20th century
the shots of the Cavalli brothers will be exhibited in the same context to celebrate with an anthological exhibition Giuseppe
who lived in Senigallia for more than twenty years
known to most as a painter but who was also a photographer of great quality.Sixty photographs by Giuseppe and fifteen by Emanuele will be on display
Some of them are unpublished ones from the Giuseppe Cavalli Archive that constitute a small anthology with nudes
Subjects that were dealt with most by Cavalli
These photographs are distinguished by their essentiality
and there is a focus on composition and spatiality
“Cavalli’s constant subject is light
luminosity for its own sake,” says curator Angela Madesani
“His works and these images in the exhibition are clear evidence of this
There are no rules for understanding his work; it is best to simply look to try to enter the depths of the Cavallian world: a world filled with meaning
which is anything but aestheticizing.”
“The photographs in the exhibition almost all depict still lifes,” Madesani adds
“some of them simpler while others consist of real compositions created specifically by the artist
such as the image of the glass sphere and the black spiral made in 1936 in Anticoli Corrado
a shot of great modernity that is affected by the artist’s international knowledge
essentiality and attention to composition are the main characteristics to be pursued
both in pictorial and photographic works.”
Comparing the works kept in the archives of the two brothers
some shots always attributed to one are found in the other’s archive and vice versa
This is precisely the theme of the exhibition: the continuous creative exchange between the brothers and a possible reinterpretation of their production unhinged by the pair that over the years has always read Giuseppe as a photographer and Emanuele as a painter
without ever being corny or pretentious,” the curator continues
and the exhibition is not meant to be a competition between them
but a demonstration of the importance of the two paths
both fundamental within the Italian art scene.”
For them it is “a medium and as such it can also be used to give life to research of an artistic nature
and quality documentary photography can also be understood in this sense,” the curator tells
its printing and therefore the quality of the final outcome.”
In the 1940s Giuseppe became the animator of the photographic group La Bussola together with
among the most exciting experiences in the history of twentieth-century Italian photography
where the most promising young people could converge and mature in order to include them in the elitist circle of La Bussola: Cavalli was now considered a master and it was during this experience that a young Mario Giacomelli would take the courage to exhibit his work
Giuseppe Cavalli has always approached photography as a means of artistic research not inferior to other tools
and in this he has always been close to his brother Emanuele
has never posed the question of whether photography is art or not
since it just is: this exhibition intends to bring out the artistic nature of the two artists’ research
Theanthological exhibition of Maurizio Galimberti
will be on view in the Rocca Roveresca in Senigallia from August 2 to 31
1965) is considered the leading Italian exponent of instant photography
and on the occasion of the exhibition he has personally chosen to exhibit a collection of original photographs
among the most representative of his production
Characteristic of his style are the so-called mosaics
“have the peculiarity of proposing the subject photographed in compositions made up of many tiles or dowels
but of varying number between one work and another
In each of the tesserae a fragment of the whole is reproduced
using an accessory that allows close-up shots
each of the tesserae accommodates a detail of the subject
Galimberti’s skill lies in choosing the sequence of shots and juxtaposing the various parts: in this way
the most significant features and personality of the character being photographed are highlighted
breaking the visual continuity of volumes and proportions.”
Present in the exhibition is one of the series of portraits of leading figures in Italian culture and music
Another theme developed by the artist is the Duchamp-inspired ready-made: taking everyday objects out of their context and proposing them as works of art
Mosaic shots where the detail is captured by polaroid and manipulated with various techniques and then superimposed on the original
Also on display is the series of travel photographs taken in recent months: on one side New York
First Snapshots and recalls the previous Viaggio in Italia made in 2003
In the project the artist shows for the first time not only the final mosaic
The anthological exhibition intends to tell the story of the artist in its different facets
through the projects of the last years and those of continuous technical and stylistic research

Mario Giacomelli was moved by a strong spirit of experimentation and a continuous desire for research: he joined and participated in the birth of the Misa photography circle

Mauro Uliassi was born in 1958 in Senigallia
where he began helping out alongside his sister Catia
positively interacting with the public from a young age
This grassroots upbringing would be fundamental in developing his style
which has always remained faithful to the values of democratic
but quickly realized it wasn’t for him and transferred to a hotel management school
where he would return for many years as a professor
he became passionate and grew convinced that this was his path
He started working summers as a bartender on the Riviera Romagnola
It was while working at “Fauchon” in Paris that he met his wife and future mother of his children
Uliassi opened his first venue in Senigallia in 1986
acquiring the current “Uliassi” restaurant
His training was unique for the time: no big names on his resume
he learned about the existence of “ElBulli” from an article by Davide Paolini and immediately packed his bags
“I was shocked by the ability to reinterpret the ingredients and the energy of the cuisine
it was a radical change in perspective on everything I had seen
the stimulus to experiment and try new ways to express the product.” It was 1998
where you could enjoy honest seafood cuisine in a convivial and relaxed atmosphere managed by Catia
this was enough to fill the restaurant: hard work
and the choice to reinvest all profits in the business
the first unexpected MICHELIN Star arrived
which he initially did not fully understand
But it encouraged him to continue investing and raising the bar
the restaurant was consecrated with the third Star while already firmly at the top of all Italian guides and advancing in the world rankings
The avant-garde culinary research always seeks connections in shared taste memories
The secret to maintaining creative tension also lies in the Lab
which takes place for forty days inside the closed restaurant each year
Here Mauro leads a team composed of his most trusted collaborators
They proceed with all-encompassing brainstorming before moving on to testing at the stove
but the creative process is collective and brings the energy of pluralism to the meal
And this is not the only uniqueness of the house
the balance between private and professional life has been pursued from unforeseen times
Uliassi also chose not to open other venues
such is their commitment to achieving excellence and consistency at the tables

After Mantua (as we reported here) and Palermo( newshere )
Revolution in photography has moved to Senigallia
where it will remain open until January 20
documents the rich photographic output of the Russian master
a leading exponent of the 20th century Russian avant-garde
1956) in his long career devoted himself to painting
opening up for each artistic field highly innovative avenues of change
His aesthetic imperative was based on the assumption “our duty is to experiment,” and it was with this slogan that in 1924 he decided to momentarily abandon painting for photography
was “a radical change in the way of conceiving the nature of photography and the role of the photographer
Conceptual thought was thus introduced into photography
no longer a mere reflection of reality but a tool for the visual representation of dynamic intellectual constructions.” Constructivism thus entered the world of photography
with what critics have called the Rodchenko Method
revolutionizing the way of understanding the image and making it become the visual representation of dynamic intellectual constructions
the artist sets up a documentary relationship with reality but alters its lens and gaze for an aesthetic rendering with abstract or strongly poetic traits: the diagonal composition he discovered
and shooting points from bottom to top and vice versa shaped an entirely unique style and visual language that has left its mark on the history of photography
The rooms of Palazzetto Baviera will host a substantial core of photographs illustrating the beauty of modern architecture
the vitality of cities in the midst of urbanization in the 1920s and 1930s
and the fever of technology and modernization
The exhibition opens with the 1922caricature Self-Portrait
and the famous photographs The Staircase (1930) and Girl with a Leica (1934)
which fully embody the innovative principles of his “method.”
The exhibition itinerary continues with a selection of images on industrial reality collected in the short series: AMO Automobile Factory of 1929
dedicated to the automobile industry; MoGES ( Moscow Power Plant)
which documents the new power plant erected in 1927 and the work of the workers
The verticality of modern buildings is captured in photographs of architecture and construction details
such as the famous Fire Staircase (with a man) from 1925
Spectacular parades of gymnasts and athletes are featured in shots that chronicle the dynamic spirit and nascent social cohesion of 1930s Russia
Rodchenko’s new attention to detail allows him to highlight the harmony of architecture and new forms created by technology
illustrated in the exhibition with an image of the Shukhov Tower from 1929 and the Moscow Electric Bulb Factory series made at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s.While The New Moscow is documented with photographs of the construction of the Culture Park and the paving of Leningrad’s streets
such as the one designed by Ginzburg on Novinski Avenue and that of Mosselprom.Journalistic-style photography is evidenced by the shots of photoreportages inside the editorial office and archives of the newspaper “Gudok” (1928) and that on the construction work of major engineering enterprises
particularly the construction of the canal linking the White Sea with the Baltic Sea
strongly representative of the spirit of the new times
“After the success recorded by Roberto Doisneau’s exhibition,” says Senigallia Mayor Maurizio Mangialardi
“we are preparing to host a new extraordinary event featuring the works of one of the greatest masters of international photography
This event is the result of the fruitful collaboration that we have established for some time now with the Multimedia Art Museum and the Italian Cultural Institute of Moscow
leading already last year to the organization in the Russian capital of an exhibition dedicated to Mario Giacomelli’s poetics of landscape
that should be included in the framework that today sees Senigallia boasting the title of City of Photography
visions and organizational skills that allows us to dialogue with the most prestigious cultural poles at the international level and to insert ourselves in the network of cities of art
to the president of the Italian Cultural Institute Olga Strada and MAMM director Olga Sviblova
who will curate the Rodchenko exhibition.”

Paolo Ventura’s modus operandi starts from photography on which he then intervenes with acrylic painting, working by subtraction: from the real datum recorded by the photographic shot he creates a scenography that is indeed artificial but at the same time fascinating and timeless.

One of the masters of contemporary photography
1925–2000) helped to put Italian photography on the map
This exhibition covered the key moments of the artist’s career
from the portraits to the cycles that explore the tragedy of human existence
In the extensive reportage project Verrà la morte e avrà i tuoi occhi (Death will come and will have your eyes
the artist captures the painful moments of everyday life in an old people’s hospice in his home town of Senigallia
for which Giacomelli achieved international recognition
documents the people and places of a small town in the Abruzzi region of Italy
The widely acclaimed series Io non ho mani che mi accarezzino il viso (I have no hands caressing my face
captures young trainee priests at “play” during their free time
and showcases Giacomelli’s hallmark use of high-contrast tones to produce striking graphic effects
exemplified here by the dramatic way the black-clad figures of the priests stand out against the stark white background
Landscape is a recurring theme in Giacomelli
and his Paesaggi (Landscapes) project covers several decades
The photographs seek to reveal the reciprocal relationship between human beings and nature
and testify to the silent monumentality of agricultural land

(Only the peanut sauce never made it to Rome.)
I naturally presented this as a welcome native enrichment of Roman street food culture
Of course we didn't mention that the chip shop is actually a Belgian achievement
A message shared by thisisitalia (@dititisitalie) on Oct 10
interest quickly declined and Dutch fries disappeared from the streets almost everywhere
The little shop on the Roman Piazzale Flaminio
where until recently I was allowed to eat fries ('with double braggel'
fond of everything that is typical of the nation
because the chip shop had not yet disappeared or another phenomenon with a Dutch connotation loomed
In recent months I have come across brand new shops with well-maintained shop windows in busy streets in several Italian cities under the name Amsterdam Cannabis Store
You could also suddenly find hemp derivatives with that name at the cigar farmer around the corner
because in Italy there is still a strict ban on soft drugs
The explanation lies in a law that prohibits the sale of so-called weed light allows
This concerns hemp with a minimal content of THC
the active ingredient in hashish and marijuana
because it has been grown in Europe for centuries as a windbreak or to make rope
you can't expect mind-altering effects from it
except that it smells a bit like weed and you probably won't get cancer from it
cannabis light is now sold in Italy at about 500 points of sale and at least as many websites as smoking products
In order to suggest that there is a 'well-being' as a saleswoman in Florence told me
a name has been added that for many young Italians is synonymous with coffee shops and what more: Amsterdam
But it's naturalurally your purest placebo and so the good name of our capital is simply misused to cheat gullible customers
The unexpected emergence of the canapé shops (hemp shops) has also put the Italian Council of Public Health on the line
This semi-government body does not have studies that would prove that cannabis light would suddenly be hallucinatory or addictive
But it finds the popularity in itself alarming enough to demand a renewed ban 'as a caveat'
a good reasoning: it is certain that it will not get you stoned
maybe there's something wrong and calls for a ban
because first the state attorney and a few ministries have to think about it
