Drew Allar spent 30 minutes deflecting the most-asked pregame question: Are you ready to be Penn State's starting quarterback next season Allar answered every time with the consistency of a passing drill: The Rose Bowl had been a lifelong dream he was thrilled potentially to play in such an historic game and starter Sean Clifford deserved a big finish "He was always there for me and Beau [Pribula] and CV [former Penn State quarterback Christian Veilleux," Allar said "Sean was a great mentor to all of us in the room." Clifford, now fittingly with the Green Bay Packers (more on that in a bit), gave Penn State more last season than 11 wins, a Rose Bowl victory and perhaps his best career performance against Utah He also big-brothered the future of Penn State's quarterback room as "Old Man," Allar and Pribula said they would not have been as successful as true freshmen without him They also feel more prepared and more capable for this season having spent a year in the same quarterback room with Clifford "He's had six years in the program and Drew and I have barely had one," Pribula said at the same Rose Bowl media event ahead of the game "Everything he's been through this season everything he's been through here with the COVID season Allar and Pribula have to take control of the offense themselves — Allar as the presumptive starter and Pribula as the quarterback who could find a situational role in coordinator Mike Yurcich's scheme They admit to still learning about everything Clifford knew last season Few quarterbacks in the country were better at recognizing defenses and situations Clifford probably took more than 2,000 snaps at Penn State Which is why both Allar and Pribula said they spent this offseason training their "general football IQ," as Allar called it: identifying formations challenging themselves to watch as much film as Clifford did That's an aspect of Clifford's game many Penn State fans took for granted And it's an aspect Allar and Pribula still are tuning RELATED: From Todd Blackledge and Michael Robinson, a window into Drew Allar had the luxury of playing behind and alongside a sixth-year senior Penn State coach James Franklin noted that college rarity by drawing parallels between the Clifford-Allar situation and his one season coaching in the NFL Franklin was the Green Bay Packers' receivers coach when the franchise drafted quarterback Aaron Rodgers He spent three seasons behind Brett Favre before taking over as starter in 2008 Franklin said he watched as Rodgers drafted behind Favre and then was ready to become the No "But that kind of impacted me," Franklin said "You see a lot of quarterbacks that maybe get thrown into the fire before they're ready and I think this was an ideal situation for both Sean from a leadership standpoint and all of our young quarterbacks." One thing he learned from Clifford was to stay in the moment a lesson he put to use at Rose Bowl media day Clifford also urged Allar to remain even-keeled and neutralize self-doubt "We're all here for a reason," Clifford would tell the young quarterbacks "I've seen Sean for a long time and what he's gone through," Allar said "I followed him when I was in high school [both are from Ohio] and I've know who Sean is since he's been here Learning from him was super important to me I could not have asked for a better mentor." Yurcich said that Clifford's impact continues to filter through the group "What’s impressed me about the group is that they are businesslike but yet they don’t get caught up in too much of the consternation," Yurcich said Pribula was asked whether he could be the starting quarterback at Penn State He also knows how a competitive relationship with Allar will benefit both quarterbacks They didn't really know each other well before enrolling in January of 2022 but quickly became friends Clifford had a lot to do with that as well "People might think there might be an unhealthy relationship but there’s never been the case," Pribula said 'We're going to be really competitive but we're also going to be great friends,' and I think that's really what we've done." journey through time with masterpieces of the ancient metropolis and installations.Image: picture-alliance/imagebroker/P WilliamsVirtual city tour Berlin's Pergamon Museum is being completely renovated for the first time since it opened in 1930 and thus the north wing with the famous Pergamon Altar is closed the multimedia exhibition "Pergamon Museum The Panorama" will serve as a substitute It is housed in a temporary building right next door A central element are the 3D representations of the ancient city The exhibition concept was developed by Berlin-based artist Yadegar Asisi together with the Collection of Classical Antiquities of the National Museums in Berlin Virtual worlds are complemented by original works of art from the Pergamon Altar like the large sculptures from the roof of the altar Part of the Telephos frieze can also be seen From a gallery visitors can let their gaze wander over the ancient Pergamon The 360-degree Pergamon panorama reworked by Yadegar Asisi is the highlight of the exhibition It shows the city as it could have looked in 129 AD during the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian the artist enlivened the panorama with countless everyday scenes Asisi (on the right) has added 40 new everyday scenes to the panorama The last big photo shooting with extras took place in October 2017 There are also sacrificial rituals on the Pergamon Altar and There the artist has snuck in - as a vegetable seller In June 2018 Yadegar Asisi saw his work in full size for the first time They placed the 104 x 30 meter (341 x 98 ft.) picture in the rotunda of the exhibition building which was on display in the Parade Court of the Pergamon Museum in 2011/12 The Panorama" is housed in a building that was erected solely for this purpose It is lightweight and can be dismantled at any time It is located directly opposite the Museum Island and will only disappear when the Pergamon Museum is reopened the magnet for visitors to the Museum Island has been partially closed for renovation work the construction work in the north wing was scheduled to last five years The Pergamon Museum is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Museum Island" The Pergamon Museum was once built for it - the Pergamon Altar The stone colossus with the legendary giant frieze measures 30 by 30 meters and is more than 2000 years old It was discovered at the end of the 19th century during excavations on the west coast of present-day Turkey The altar is considered by many researchers to be the eighth wonder of the ancient world The fact that the precious altar has to remain in place during the renovation phase makes the construction work in the Pergamon Museum even more difficult sensors measure humidity and temperature around the clock They also indicate when the construction work causes a vibration - which has happened several times So far the altar has remained undamaged by these If you want to visit the place where the Pergamon Altar was once found About 100 kilometers (62 mi) north of the Turkish port city of Izmir lies Bergama - the former Pergamon which was one of the most important cultural centers of antiquity The ruins of the Acropolis are still being explored In 2016 Bergama was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List The Pac-12 is adding Utah State as its seventh member and is in discussions with basketball powerhouse Gonzaga to join the rebuilding conference in 2026 multiple people with knowledge of the talks told The Associated Press on Monday Utah State and UNLV were the main targets for the Pac-12 after a group of American Athletic Conference schools decided to stay put following a pitch to join the rebuilding Conference of Champions But the Mountain West was working to keep its remaining eight schools together and UNLV's decision remained uncertain The Mountain West received commitments from Air Force and San Jose State on Monday according to two other people with knowledge of that conference's situation Air Force had been drawing interest from the AAC to join Army and Navy in that conference The other Mountain West schools include New Mexico The people all spoke on condition of anonymity because both Pac-12's and Mountain West's strategy and internal discussions were not being made public The Pac-12's moves came after four American Athletic Conference schools who had been pitched on joining the reconstructed league announced they remained committed to the AAC UTSA and the American Athletic Conference released a statement that made no mention of the Pac-12 but several people with knowledge of those talks told AP the conference had targeted those schools as potential new members “While we acknowledge receiving interest in our institutions from other conferences we firmly believe that it is in our individual and collective best interests to uphold our commitment to each other,” the schools said we will continue to modernize the conference The Pac-12 began to restock for a 2026 relaunch two weeks ago by landing Boise State San Diego State and Colorado State from the Mountain West to join Washington State and Oregon State the only two Pac-12 schools left after a dramatic round of realignment took effect this summer The Pac-12 needed at least two more members in all sports to reach the eight required to be a recognized conference with access to NCAA championships and the College Football Playoff in 2026 that's down to one though the conference is exploring several options beyond UNLV Adding Gonzaga would give the Pac-12 one of the best men's basketball programs in the country The Bulldogs have thrived in the West Coast Conference reaching the NCAA Tournament every year it has been played since 1998 with two Final Four appearances and eight seasons of at least 30 victories The school has in the past talked to the Big East about conference affiliation and the Big 12 has discussed potentially adding Gonzaga to its strong men's basketball lineup The Zags have also become a perennial tournament team in women's basketball Adding Gonzaga would still leave the Pac-12 in need of another football-playing member for CFP purposes One person with knowledge of the discussions between the Pac-12 and AAC schools said the conference’s pitch included a projected $12 million to $15 million annual media-rights distribution to each school The schools were also presented with options to join solely in football and basketball to alleviate travel costs associated with other sports programs making trips across one or two times zones All the Pac-12 schools are in the Mountain and Pacific time zones The Pac-12 was targeting new members in the Central time zone as a way to potentially increase value for possible television partners Leaving the AAC would have been costly for the schools The conference’s bylaws require a 27-month notification for departing schools and a $10 million exit fee When UConn left the AAC to return to the Big East it cost the school $17 million The AAC received $25 million from SMU for an expedited move to the ACC this year The Pac-12 and its four newest members are already on the hook for about $110 million in exit fees and penalties to the Mountain West a potential windfall for that conference to share with schools that choose to stay or join Pac-12 Commissioner Teresa Gould has declined to detail how that cost will be shared by the incoming schools and conference which is sitting on about $250 million in revenue the previous iteration of the Pac-12 was in line to receive this year and next A football scheduling agreement between Oregon State includes a poaching penalty of more than $10 million per school that increases as the number of schools the Pac-12 takes increases The penalty would be $12 million if the Pac-12 takes one more Mountain West school and increases to $12.5 million for the next one That's on top of a $17 million exit fee Jahrhundert hat sich ein steirischer Landadeliger dazu hinreißen lassen sich im Jerusalemer "Abendmahlsaal" zu verewigen: Er ritzte sein Familienwappen in eine Wand des von Kreuzrittern erbauten "Coenaculum" mittelalterliche "Tags" konnten Forschende im Gebäude am Berg Zion mit neuen Methoden identifizieren Die Analyse offenbart ein paar interessante Details über das historische Kommen und Gehen an dem als heilig verehrten Ort Der Legende nach soll an diesem Ort Jesus mit seinen Jüngern das biblische "Letzte Abendmahl" zu sich genommen haben wurden im Mittelalter von den Kreuzrittern erbaut Da sich im Untergeschoß des Bauwerks auch noch das Grabmal des alttestamentarischen König David befinden soll Muslimen und Christen heilig - und zieht bis heute dementsprechend viele Pilgerinnen und Pilger an Dass dem schon seit sehr langer Zeit so ist lässt sich auch an den Wänden des Saales ablesen - wenngleich dazu vielfach moderne Technik vonnöten ist Über Jahrhunderte hinweg wurden dort munter Andenken von den Anwesenden eingeritzt Diese Praxis erinnert frappant an das "Taggen" in heutiger Zeit - also das Hinterlassen eines charakteristischen Schriftzuges vornehmlich im urbanen Raum In den vergangenen Jahren sorgten beispielsweise im Raum Wien notorische Tagger für Aufsehen "Coco Taxi" oder ähnlichem mehr oder weniger das Stadtbild mitprägten Diese Extremform des territorialen Markierens lässt sich im Abendmahlsaal zwar nicht finden, die Vielfalt an Graffiti ist jedoch groß und umfasst Inschriften, Wappen oder Zeichnungen, wie ein internationales Forschungsteam unter Beteiligung der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften (ÖAW), der israelischen Behörde für Altertümer (IAA) und armenischen Wissenschaftern im Fachmagazin "Liber Annuus" zeigt Viele der alten Ritzungen sind heute nur noch auf digitalen Abbildungen unter Zuhilfenahme moderner Techniken zu erkennen Darunter fand sich auch ein Österreichaspekt: So folgte im Jahr 1436 eine Abordnung von rund 100 österreichischen Adeligen dem damaligen Erzherzog und späteren Kaiser des Heiligen Römischen Reiches Diesen Umstand dürfte ein Mitreisender aus der Region Murau genutzt haben um sein Familienwappen stilisiert in eine der Wände zu ritzen Verbrieft ist laut einer Aussendung der ÖAW am Mittwoch dass der Steirer Tristram von Teuffenbach damals mit von der Partie war Er gilt also als wahrscheinlichster Tagger im Saal Bei der Identifizierung konnten die Experten auch auf Erkenntnisse aus einem groß angelegten Projekt zurückgreifen in dem Glasmalereien seit dem Mittelalter untersucht werden So kam man auf die Spur des Emblems aus der obersteirischen Region Murau Neben diesem alpenländischen Gruß am Berg Zion fanden sich dort aber auch noch eine ganze Reihe Inschriften Die meisten davon datieren aus dem Spätmittelalter als der Abendmahlssaal Teil eines franziskanischen Klosters war Aber auch ältere Tags sind zu finden: So etwa ein auf armenisch geschriebenes Andenken an "Weihnachten 1300" und seine Truppen nach einer Schlacht im heutigen Syrien am 22 Dezember 1299 wirklich Jerusalem erreicht hat Die nun entdeckte Inschrift - typisch für die Epigrafik des armenischen Adels hoch oben auf einer Wand - spreche dafür Weiters begeistert die Wissenschafterinnen und Wissenschafter auch ein Schriftzug der offenbar einer weiblichen Pilgerin aus dem syrischen Aleppo zuzuschreiben ist sowie Signaturen von einst bekannten Personen wie Johannes Poloner aus Regensburg oder eine Kohlezeichnung des Wappens der Patrizierfamilie von Rümlingen aus Bern Außerdem haben sich offenbar auch Pilgerinnen und Pilger aus Tschechien oder Serbien an den Wänden verewigt werfen die Graffiti "ein neues Licht auf die geografische Vielfalt und die internationale Pilgerbewegung nach Jerusalem im Mittelalter - weit über die westlich geprägte I struggle with it," she said adding she hopes people signing the petition against Duval's plan will also contact state legislators She noted that the state still has a surplus and has spent nearly a $1 billion on private school vouchers so the legislature can afford to better fund school safety mandates Couch also floated the idea of asking local voters to foot the bill either through a referendum to raise taxes or through a bond issue but it would take two years before the district saw any money Board Chairwoman Paula Wright told Smith Juarez that her questions and objections were already covered in a prior meeting she missed The district looked at how many more police officers they could afford using the state safety money but it wasn't nearly enough to meet state requirements The state designated about $2.4 million to the district for arming police or sheriff's deputies but district officials said it would cost about $10 million to arm deputies for the district's 167 schools Board members say the safety assistants are a less expensive option district safety director Micheal Edwards said recently there is a shortage and a demand for law officers in Florida; Duval is struggling to find enough to hire to fill existing open police positions "I don't think anybody has a problem with you expressing an opinion; you have that right," Wright told Smith Juarez "But the board has decided where we're moving." que puede abrir paso al descubrimiento de nuevas especies The Rock Islands Southern Lagoon consists of numerous large and small forested limestone islands scattered within a marine lagoon protected by a barrier reef immediately to the south of Palau’s main volcanic island Babeldaob in the western Pacific Ocean The marine site covers 100,200 ha and is characterized by coral reefs and a diversity of other marine habitats as well as 445 coralline limestone islands uplifted due to volcanism and shaped over time by weather This has created an extremely high habitat complexity including the highest concentration of marine lakes in the world which continue to yield new species discoveries The terrestrial environment is lush and at the same time harsh supporting numerous endemic and endangered species the islands were once home to Palauan settlements and Palauans continue to use the area and its resources for cultural and recreational purposes This is regulated through a traditional governance system that remains an important part of national identity The islands contain a significant set of cultural remains relating to an occupation over some five thousand years that ended in abandonment Archaeological remains and rock art sites are found in two island clusters - Ulong and Negmelis Remains of former human occupation in caves testifies to seasonal human occupation and use of the marine ecosystem dating back to 3,100 BP and extending over some 2,500 years some dating back to between 950 and 500 BP were occupied for several centuries before being abandoned in the 17th-18th centuries when the population moved to larger islands The villages include the remains of defensive walls The settlements reflect distinctive responses to their local environment and their abandonment demonstrates the consequences of population growth and climate change impacting on subsistence in a marginal environment The descendants of the people who moved from the Rock Islands to the main islands of Palau identify with their ancestral islands through oral traditions that record in legends and traditional place names the land- and seascape of their former homes The abandoned islands now provide an exceptional illustration of the way of life of small island communities over more than three millennia and their dependence on marine resources They also are seen as ancestral realms by the descendants of those who migrated to the main island of Palau and this link is kept alive through oral traditions Criterion (iii): The Rock Islands cave deposits abandoned remains of stonework villages and middens bear exceptional testimony to the organisation of small island communities and their harvesting of marine resources over some three millennia Criterion (v): The abandonment of Rock Island villages in the 17th and 18th centuries demonstrated by the remains of human settlement and evidence of marine harvesting activity in the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon is an exceptional illustration of the intersection and consequences of climate change and subsistence behaviour on a society living in a marginal marine environment Criterion (vii): The Rock Islands Southern Lagoon contains an exceptional variety of habitats within a relatively limited area as well as the highest number and density of marine lakes in the world are home to diverse and abundant marine life The maze of dome-shaped and green Rock Islands seemingly floating in the turquoise lagoon surrounded by coral reef is of exceptional aesthetic beauty Criterion (ix): The Rock Islands Southern Lagoon contains 52 marine lakes the marine lakes of the property are at different stages of geological and ecological development ranging from lakes with high connectivity to the sea to highly isolated lakes with notably different species composition These features represent an outstanding example of how marine ecosystems and communities develop and make the lakes valuable as “natural laboratories” for scientific study of evolution and speciation Five new subspecies of the Mastigias papua jellyfish have been described from these marine lakes and new species discoveries continue to be made both in the marine lakes as well as in the complex reef habitats of the property Criterion (x): The Rock Islands Southern Lagoon has exceptionally high biological and marine habitat diversity The marine lakes are unique in terms of number as well as an exceptional variety of reef habitat the resilience of reefs of the property makes it a critical area for protection including as an area important for climate change adaptation of reef biota and potentially as a source of larvae for reefs in the region at least 13 species of sharks and manta rays and the endemic nautilus are found in the property and the forests of the islands include all of Palau’s endemic birds herpetofauna and nearly half of Palau’s endemic plants This makes the area of exceptional conservation value The property has clear boundaries and includes a large part of the lagoonal and reef habitat surrounding the main islands of Palau as well as most land of coralline origin occurring within Koror State This ensures a high degree of replication of habitat type Although past and present use has altered both marine and terrestrial environments or at least the abundance of resource species the present conservation status of the property is good Activities in and around the property that may impact on it are subject to specific management regulations and/or interventions The inclusion of waters outside the barrier reef and within Koror State jurisdiction in a buffer zone further increases its ecological integrity The property contains a complete representation of the features and processes that convey the value of the property Most of these elements do not suffer inordinately from development or neglect and are in good condition However a conservation programme is required to ensure ongoing conservation and maintenance The property has been largely isolated from human interference since pre-European occupation ceased They are nevertheless highly vulnerable to uncontrolled tourism activities The form and materials of village settlements burial caves and their setting continue to convey the cultural value of the property Excavated deposits have been recorded and reburied and the reports of these campaigns have been lodged with the Koror State Government To achieve a full understanding of the remains on all the islands will need more survey work Oral histories and ongoing cultural traditions in the main island of Palau keep alive the memories of the migration away from the Rock Islands and the histories associated with them The legislative framework regulating use and management of the environment and its resources is comprehensive and clear The area falls in its entirety in Koror State and the management jurisdiction of Koror State Rangers is well known and respected Management authorities are operating on relatively reliable revenue from tourism The strength of traditional value systems including resource governance systems is an asset and can enable management and zoning that accommodate both cultural/traditional and biodiversity conservation needs Management objectives and priorities are defined in the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon Management Plan Both legislative framework and management arrangements are conducive to protecting and maintaining the values of the property Cultural sites within the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon are protected under Title 19 ‘Cultural Resources’ by the Historical and Cultural Preservation Act of the Republic of Palau Underwater archaeological and historical remains are protected under Title 19 as the ‘Palau Lagoon Monument’ All the designated sites within the property should be included on Palau’s National Register of historic places The Koror State Department of Conservation and Law Enforcement collaborates with the Palau Historic Preservation Office Bureau of Arts and Culture in working with locally based agencies and organisations on management and research activities within the property Koror State Regulations (1994) cover general resource use recreational activities and the designation of protected areas within the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon The Rock Islands Use Act was legislated in 1997 to regulate tourist activity in the islands The laws and regulations are enforced by the Koror State Rangers The Rock Islands Southern Lagoon Area Management Plan 2004-2008 was adopted by the Koror State Legislature and Governor in 2005 and is currently under review Long term protection and management requirements for the property include the need to prevent negative impacts from tourism including maintaining access restrictions to vulnerable areas ensuring visitor numbers are within the capacity of the property and mitigating adverse effects from development of infrastructure and facilities in Koror Subsistence and recreational fishing taking place within the property and in designated zones require constant monitoring the property may also be constructively used for research on and preservation of traditional knowledge of the marine environment Additional needs include maintaining restrictions on development within the property and in the vicinity of property boundaries An adaptive approach to management of the property and the provision for effective long term monitoring including ecosystem health and water quality are necessary in order to maintain the resilience of the property in the face of climate change Your access to this service has been limited If you think you have been blocked in error contact the owner of this site Week 10 it was time for the College Football Playoff Selection Committee to release their first rankings the Georgia Bulldogs (8-0) came in at the top spot 2 seed Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0) to have two SEC teams in the top two spots Atlanta was elated and Birmingham has never been madder since probably Kick Six 3 were everyone’s favorite independent squad Despite his fan base trying to run him out of town Brian Kelly is two points away from being undefeated on the season Notre Dame has the best loss on the season Rounding out the top four was the defending national champion Clemson Tigers (7-1) Though Deshaun Watson is doing a really good job of playing sub-.500 football in the NFL for the Houston Texans Dabo Swinney’s boys are getting the benefit of the doubt this week They did beat three teams that were ranked in the top 15 in a four-week span before falling to Syracuse in the Carrier on a Friday the 13th It’s Halloween and we’re not going to Slack off this evening It’s all about learning things and having a good time pretty big takeaways from the initial College Football Playoff rankings Let’s give the Selection Committee an air high-five real quick they were not going to be beholden to perfect records right out of the gate Georgia and Alabama are looking really good at 8-0 but the Wisconsin Badgers’ 8-0 and the Miami Hurricanes’ 7-0 aren’t as enticing Not only did the Badgers and Hurricanes not make the first four in Scott Frost’s team has been more impressive than Wisky or The U so far well it’s UCF and they’re getting that New Year’s Six bowl the Penn State Nittany Lions (7-1) and the TCU Horned Frogs (7-1) the first four teams out all have great losses on their résumé Oklahoma and TCU couldn’t hang with Matt Campbell’s No Penn State lost by a point in The Horseshoe at Columbus The Badgers will “Jump Around” during their cakewalk to Indianapolis Their best win is over the Northwestern Wildcats With the Michigan Wolverines not looking the least bit good Wisconsin’s schedule is softer than Charmin The Badgers will get boat raced in Indianapolis by either Ohio State or Penn State Mark Richt is doing a fine job in Coral Gables but his ‘Canes definitely have some L’s on the slate in the coming weeks 3 Notre Dame and probably a bowl-caliber Virginia Cavaliers team in succession The Hurricanes might drop off the top 25 entirely in a matter of weeks When the Georgia Bulldogs decided to fire the stoic Mark Richt in favor of hiring their jumpy Smart was only Nick Saban’s defensive coordinator at Alabama and Richt was winning 10 games annually in Athens the move has been good for both UGA and The U Thanks to two marquee wins at Notre Dame and a beatdown of the Mississippi State Bulldogs at home, them Dawgs is hell, don’t they as they are the finest team in the land this week at No To the surprise of many in the Classic City and the Greater Atlanta area them Dawgs’ resume was better than what Roll Tide could offer Turns out that neutral site pummeling of the Florida State Seminoles doesn’t mean much any more Florida State probably isn’t going to a bowl Alabama’s best win is over the Texas A&M Aggies at home Alabama’s best games are ahead of them in LSU at Mississippi State and at Auburn for the Iron Bowl Georgia still has three respectable SEC opponents left on the slate in the South Carolina Gamecocks plus a decent Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets team at regular season’s end Next: 50 best college football programs of all time At the end of the day, Georgia and Alabama will presumably meet in the 2017 SEC Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Both will likely be 12-0 (8-0) depending on how the Auburn rivalry games shake out. Alabama might be the better team, but Georgia has played a tougher schedule to this point. Them Dawgs is hell don’t they and were rewarded for it thanks to a killer resume. The Committee loves resumes. It appears the Ohio State football team is teasing the same thing this season for its November 11 home night game against the Michigan State Spartans My all-time favorite Ohio State jersey/uniform of any kind across sports has always been the Ohio State men’s all-gray uniform The Buckeyes have traditionally worn an alternate uniform at least once during the season and they attempted an all-gray uniform once before they released a darker gray uniform with black lettering and a digital camp helmet with metallic red buckeye leaf stickers What could make this year’s “all-gray” uniform unique would be a more “silver” look to the uniform If they release a jersey top that matches the traditional pants and helmets with scarlet lettering it will look like the gray home jerseys that the basketball team sports Given the most recent social media tease by Ohio State it indeed does appear that that will be the look they will be going for against Sparty 📌 pic.twitter.com/ifZlQgRZu5 Given the popularity of the men’s gray basketball jersey Ohio State and Nike can prepare for some serious sales from this new alternate jersey release my budgeting for Ohio State football memorabilia and apparel has diminished slightly over the past couple of years But if this jersey looks like I think it will they can rest assured that they will be receiving my hard-earned dollars I know there are a lot of traditionalists within college football fanbases who look down upon a game or two per season when a school decides to wear an alternate uniform Just look around campus on a game day and you will see why This is a trend that isn’t going to stop any time soon ","https://fansided.com/",{"alt":"5y","src":"5z","url":"60"},{"type":"5x","value":"61"},"link","Minute newspaper in Mt 📌 pic.twitter.com/ifZlQgRZu5 Top 5 former Buckeyes who are coaching today Located in Upper Egypt about six miles (10 km) from the Nile River the site of Abydos played a pivotal role in ancient Egyptian religious life Abydos would become a cult center for Osiris A temple dedicated to him flourished at Abydos and every year a great procession was held that would see an image of Osiris carried from his temple to a tomb the Egyptians believed to be his (it actually belonged to a first dynasty king named Djer) in an article written in the Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt (Oxford University Press 2001) estimates that Abydos covers about 5 square miles (8 square km) He notes that while many discoveries have been made a fact recognized in the Arabic name of the modern town: Arabah el-Madfunah (‘the buried Arabah’).” Archaeologists know that the kings of Egypt’s first dynasty (3000-2890 B.C.) and the last two of the second dynasty (ended 2686 B.C.) had tombs at Abydos and were likely buried there In addition to a burial chamber for their bodies the rulers were provided with provisions for the afterlife “First dynasty tombs were provided with large-scale and multi-chambered storage facilities sometimes separate,” writes archaeologist David O’Connor in his book Abydos: Egypt’s First Pharaohs and the Cult of Osiris (Thames and Hudson O’Connor also notes that the first dynasty tombs were provided with “subsidiary burials” (sometimes numbering in the hundreds) of people who may have been sacrificed Just to the north of the royal tombs are cemeteries B and U which hold tombs that predate the first dynasty a period referred to as the “pre-dynastic” by Egyptologists It’s been argued that some of the pre-dynastic tombs at Abydos are those of “proto-kings” who controlled all or a large part of Egypt and O’Connor notes that it is difficult to determine which of these tombs at Abydos were for kings and which were for elite members of society One tomb that would appear to be for a ruler is referred to by researchers as “Uj” and was excavated by Günter Dreyer Excavators found evidence for a wooden shrine above the burial chamber and a small ivory scepter Inscribed objects found at the tomb show early examples of Egyptian writing (there is a debate over exactly how to read them) Surrounding the burial chamber was a storage complex that would have held “hundreds of pots filled with foods and drinks,” leaving the person buried there well-provisioned for the afterlife.   “[T]hree of the chambers in fact had once been filled with wine jars – locally made imitations of pottery typical of Southern Canaan or Palestine equivalent to some 4,500 liters,” O’Connor writes About one mile (1.5 km) to the north of the royal tombs is an enigmatic series of mud brick enclosures dedicated to kings (and in one case a queen) believed buried at Abydos each enclosure is surrounded by massive walls and contains a chapel What the enclosure monuments were used for is a mystery O’Connor notes that eight of the enclosures belong to rulers from the first dynasty (three of which belong to king “Aha” and one to queen Merneith) with an additional pair belonging to the later two kings of the second dynasty He argues that there are likely more enclosures waiting to be discovered the first dynasty enclosures were also provided with burials of people who may have been sacrificed They too sometimes number in the hundreds.  The largest enclosure belongs to King Khasekhemwy of the second dynasty (it didn’t have sacrifices) O’Connor notes that the structure is about 438 feet (134 meters) by 255 feet (78 meters) with its walls originally rising 36 feet (11 meters) high with entranceways on all four sides In modern times Khasekhemwy’s enclosure has been given the name “Shunet el-Zebib,” which means “raisin magazine” or “storehouse of raisins” (although that was not its original purpose) When O’Connor’s team examined Khasekhemwy’s chapel they found that the southwest portion contained a “labyrinthine complex of chambers” and there was a small room where “traces of incense burning and libations” were found Northeast of Khasekhemwy’s enclosure at a junction between King Djer’s enclosure and the “western mastaba,” are a series of 12 “boat graves” each of which contain a full-size wooden boat that would have served a ritual purpose O’Connor notes that some of them have an “irregularly shaped rock” that may have functioned as an anchor The boats would have been deposited at the same time but it’s not known which king built them Boats played an important role in Egyptian religion and full-size examples have also been found at the Great Pyramids among other mortuary sites “Verbal and visual imagery in Egyptian mortuary contexts often involves boats and ships which in toto comprise a vast flotilla in which deities long-dead kings and deceased Egyptians sail through eternity,” O’Connor writes Archaeologists have had a difficult time identifying the exact location of the temple site researchers from the Yale-Pennsylvania Institute of Fine Arts expedition discovered two architectural layers from buildings that date from the reigns of kings Nectanebo I and II (about 2,400 years ago) and from the 18th dynasty (around 3,500 years ago) The ceiling of the Nectanebo temple appears to have been decorated with stars carved in relief work at the site indicates that perhaps earlier temples might lie below the two phases already discovered,” writes researcher Michelle Marlar in her 2009 doctoral thesis.  About 3,500 years ago the last royal pyramid built by the Egyptians was constructed at Abydos by Ahmose you still get an excellent view while standing on top of it “The vista from the top of Ahmose’s pyramid is a commanding one as it surveys the nearby cultivated fields at the edge of the Nile floodplain as well as the limestone cliffs a kilometer away that mark the start of the plateau of the Sahara desert,” writes archaeologist Stephen Harvey who leads a project exploring the pyramid and nearby structures in a 2003 University of Chicago Oriental Institute report Researcher Mark Lehner estimates that the pyramid originally measured 172 feet (53 meters) square in antiquity, relatively small compared to the Great Pyramids “Two intact courses of casing stone survived at the eastern base when explored by Arthur Mace at the turn of the century from which he estimated its angle as 60 (degrees)” writes Lehner in his book The Complete Pyramids (Thames and Hudson A pyramid temple nearby has yielded the fragments of decoration including scenes showing the king defeating the Hyksos To the south an inscribed stela indicates that a pyramid with enclosure was built for Queen Tetisheri A magnetometry survey carried out by Harvey’s team backs this ancient account up revealing that there is a 300-by-230-foot (90 by 70 meters) “enclosure wall of brick” lying under the desert Abydos has many monuments and the Temple of Seti I (known to the Egyptians as a “house of millions of years”) is one of the best preserved Seti I (also spelled Sety) was a king who fought campaigns in the Levant flexing Egypt’s military muscle.  Archaeologist Dieter Arnold writes in the Encyclopedia of Ancient Egyptian Architecture (I.B measures 183 by 515 feet (56 by 157 meters) and is located within a brick enclosure “The temple rises in terraces along the slope of the desert On the bottom terrace is a man-made lake with a quay behind which stands the first pylon with royal statue pillars at its rear,” writes Arnold After passing through two hypostyle halls the visitor comes across seven barque (boat) shrines One is dedicated to the king Seti I and the others to the gods Ptah O’Connor estimates that each chapel is 135 square feet (12.6 square meters) with a vaulted ceiling 19 feet (5.8 meters) above the ground “In each chapel was originally housed a boat-shaped palanquin used to carry an image of the relevant deity during the processional rituals,” O’Connor writes One of the most enigmatic structures at Abydos has a rocky megalithic look and Arnold notes that a 420-foot (128 meters) passageway leads up to it It may have served as a tomb for “Osiris-Seti,” a depiction of Seti as Osiris.  “The structure of the main hall is fantastical and consists of an island surrounded by a deep moat upon which rested the (now lost) sarcophagus of Osiris-Sety,” writes Arnold The ceiling of the room was 23 feet (7 meters) across and was “supported on two rows of five granite pillars It posee notables ejemplos de este tipo de casas cuya construcción se remonta al siglo XVII si bien algunas de las más sofisticadas datan de principios del siglo XIX Una kullë típica consta de una planta las estancias destinadas a los huéspedes una mezquita y dos iglesias del siglo XVIII These two fortified historic centres are remarkably well preserved and this is particularly true of their vernacular buildings They have been continuously inhabited from ancient times down to the present day they bear witness to the wealth and diversity of the urban and architectural heritage of this region Berat and Gjirokastra bear witness to a way of life which has been influenced over a long period by the traditions of Islam during the Ottoman period while at the same time incorporating more ancient influences This way of life has respected Orthodox Christian traditions which have thus been able to continue their spiritual and cultural development the town has houses with turrets (the Turkish kule ) which are characteristic of the Balkans region Gjirokastra contains several remarkable examples of houses of this type but also more elaborate examples dating from the early 19th century Berat bears witness to a town which was fortified but open and was over a long period inhabited by craftsmen and merchants Its urban centre reflects a vernacular housing tradition of the Balkans examples of which date mainly from the late 18th and the 19th centuries This tradition has been adapted to suit the town's life styles which are predominantly horizontal in layout and make abundant use of the entering daylight Criterion (iii) : Berat and Gjirokastra bear outstanding testimony to the diversity of urban societies in the Balkans and to longstanding ways of life which have today almost vanished The town planning and housing of Gjirokastra are those of a citadel town built by notable landowners whose interests were directly linked to those of the central power Berat bears the imprint of a more independent life style linked to its handicraft and merchant functions the two towns of Gjirokastra and Berat bear outstanding testimony to various types of monument and vernacular urban housing during the Classical Ottoman period in continuity with the various Medieval cultures which preceded it and in a state of peaceful coexistence with a large Christian minority The overall integrity of the two towns is satisfactory although this was adversely affected by illegal constructions in the late 1990s but preservation management must be stepped up and carefully enforced in accordance with the highest international standards The management plan measures and the recently established coordination authority responsible for implementing the plan should encourage
