Calabria dresses in flowers and it wears its spring face in the province of Reggio Calabria
where the Infiorata of Taurianova comes to life
which every year renews its inspirational theme
leaves the field open to the imagination of the participants
who try their hand at producing veritable paintings of flowers under the artistic direction of experienced master florists from cities renowned for their historical flower festival
The Taurianova Flower Festival does not bind participants to the representation of classical themes
but welcomes proposals of contemporary artistic works from various cultures and backgrounds
distinguishing itself by the originality of the infioramento
The Taurianova Flower Festival was born in 2016 and it is now one of Calabria's best-loved late spring events
the Infiorata boasts the permanent exhibition of the Official Manifesto of the Infiorata at the Palazzo degli Stati Generali della Cultura "Pasquino Crupi" in Reggio Calabria
Those who decide to visit Taurianova during the infiorata will find themselves in the presence of dozens of floral carpets in the streets of the city: the creation of the sketches
with an estimated total of around 2 million petals
as well as intoxicating for the five senses
as visitors are called upon to "infiorare" and to experience the techniques and art of floristry under the supervision of great masters
taking part in what is intended to be a true moment of sharing and cultural exchange
The Taurianova Flower Festival is a celebration for the whole town and it includes a series of side events and entertainment for young and old: workshops
shows and free tastings of typical regional products freshly prepared by renowned chefs
This fragrant and colourful "three days" ends on the final evening with a breathtaking dancing fountain show
Taurianova is one of the most important centres in the province of Reggio Calabria
Its name recalls ancient Magna Graecia settlements: Nuova Taurianum and the colony of Tauriana
the remains of which can be seen at the Parco Archeologico dei Tauriani
A must-see in the city is the Taurianova Cathedral in Piazza Macrì
a remarkable Romanesque building with a beautiful rose window on the façade flanked by two bell towers
such as the wooden pulpit and the marble altar by Vincenzo Romeo
In addition to the churches in the centre and the Capuchin Convent
Taurianova boasts the Monumental Cemetery of Radicena
a true "open-air museum" of great artistic importance
a fine example of Sicilian Baroque built by architect Filippo Frangipane
You can't visit Taurianova for the infiorata
during the traditional and heartfelt Feast of Maria Santissima della Montagna
on the occasion of which "u 'mbitu" (the invitation) is held
an ancient Taurianovese tradition that "invites" the surrounding towns and villages to join in the festivities through an original rite
somewhere between the sacred and the profane
a traditional Taurianovese sweet that takes the form of a fried panzerotto
filled with sweetened ricotta and sprinkled with cinnamon
A sightseeing itinerary around Taurianova includes the towns of Palmi
with its beautiful marina along the renowned Calabrian Costa Viola
we recommend an excursion to the Mundu and Galsia waterfalls
and then up the mountainside to discover the natural beauty of the Aspromonte National Park

One of Italy's most wanted mafia bosses has been arrested after 20 years on the run
was captured as he was sleeping in his hideout in Italy's southern region of Calabria
home to the crime syndicate known as 'Ndrangheta
He described Fazzalari as one of the most dangerous criminals
No-one can escape from justice," added the minister
Prime Minister Matteo Renzi thanked judges and security forces in a Tweet
"Thank you to the judges and the forces of order
"He went from his sleep to the handcuffs of the Carabinieri paramilitary police after 20 years on the run," Col
Lorenzo Falferi told reporters in Reggio Calabria
Fazzalari was involved in a 1989-1991 turf war between clans that caused the death of at least 32 people in Taurianova
The mafioso was wanted for crimes including murder
he was put on trial in absentia and received a life sentence for his role in the Taurianova feud

In recent years, 'Ndrangheta has become Italy's most powerful and feared mafia group
Part of its criminal success is owed to its secretive nature
'Ndrangheta is widely regarded as the group that has filled the void left by Sicilian mafia Cosa Nostra on the international drug trafficking stage
gaining the crown of Europe's biggest drug cartel
A series of recent investigations has showed how its clans have become the favourite business partners for US mafia families
Besides drug trafficking, 'Ndrangheta gangs are involved in pretty much any profitable illicit activity, but prostitution, according to Ciconte

The inhabitants of the settlements are predominantly young men with an average age of 35
Despite having resided in Italy for an extended period (88% for over three years)
It is important to note that 92% of the ninety-four people who received assistance in the first quarter of 2023
either from a health or socio-legal standpoint
a large number of the workers had residence permits for asylum-seeking (39%)
while another 1% held a residence permit awaiting employment
The dire conditions described since MEDU’s initial presence in the Plain in 2013 appear even more grotesque and paradoxical when contrasting the inhumane images of life in the informal settlements with those of completed yet unused container camps or vacant apartment buildings confiscated from the mafia

€ 5.5 million were spent on accommodations that never opened their doors
€3 million came from the European Union and were allocated for the construction of six buildings with a total of 36 apartments in Rosarno
The Ministry of the Interior provided an additional €2 million for the “Village of Solidarity,” located on confiscated land from the Bellocco clan
€650,000 were invested to develop a multipurpose center in the municipality of Taurianova
Despite this, the civil society gave a bold and forward-thinking example. Two years ago, The “Dambe So” labourers’ hostel

On Saturday 19 April 2025, the village of Sant'Andrea Apostolo dello Ionio is preparing to experience one of the most intense and evocative events of Holy Week: the Passion of Christ, a travelling sacred representation that retraces the last moments of Jesus' life.
The event, written and directed by Domenico Cosentino, involves numerous local groups, associations, and confraternities, creating an exciting and immersive performance. The route includes eleven locations, from the solemn entry of Jesus into Jerusalem to his resurrection, with scenes set up in the streets of the village and with attention to the smallest details to offer an authentic and immersive experience.
It will begin at Via M. Pagano, from where the public will be able to follow the journey of Christ through symbolic moments such as the Last Supper, the Flagellation, the encounter with Mary on the road to Calvary and the Crucifixion, up to the representation of the Resurrection.
