(News 4 & Fox 11) — "I remember smoke and I remember just how fast everything happened."
Flames engulfed a two story home on Teramo Court in Damonte Ranch in the early morning hours while the Barbee family slept
The parents awoke to their worst nightmare
"What really sticks in my mind is the moment during the fire when I couldn't get to the boys," said David Barbee
"And feeling overcome by smoke and and feeling utterly defeated."
The fire claimed the lives of the couple's two teenage boys
Davis was a senior at Damonte Ranch High School
His brother Travis was a student at Depaoli Middle School
Investigators never determined what caused the fire
only that it started in the garage and spread quickly
But we have learned by sorting through copies of the dispatch records that a Truckee Meadows fire station that's only a few miles from the scene was not part of the initial response
That's because Reno Fire did not ask for their help early on
Truckee Meadows Fire Station 33 is located on Foothill Road
It would have been an eight minute drive to the fire according to county fire officials
Station 33 was called 39 minutes after the fact
By that time they were headed to another call and could not respond to the house fire
Reno Fire Chief Dave Cochran tells News 4 the city had plenty of its own resources available that night and didn't need the county's help early on
But this incident is a clear reminder that with city and county fire crews operating independently as they do now
the closest units don't always respond first
That's because without automatic aid
dispatch is based on city and county boundaries and not who is closest to the scene
David Barbee says it troubles him to learn that a nearby fire station wasn't called immediately
"My personal experience with the fire is that every second counted and every moment was critical," he said
"I think in a situation where seconds are critical you throw everything at it."
It's an issue both sides promised to fix two years ago when we found there was a delayed response to a crash at the Great Clips Salon in south Reno because of the lack of automatic aid
"We recognize that that's a problem
the county recognizes that's a problem and we're going to address that," John McNamara with the Reno Fire Department told News 4 in 2022
There's no way of knowing whether one more crew would have made a difference the night of the Teramo fire
wondering if it could have doesn't make things any easier
"It certainly leaves a question in my mind," David said
The Barbee's are focused now on moving forward
They are doing their best to live productive lives
Davis and Travis are in their thoughts every step of the way
"I know they're in heaven right now just looking at us," she said
"If we're sad they'll be sad
If I'm happy they're happy too."
The Barbees say they are grateful for the firefighters who responded and did their best to try to save their son's lives
But automatic aid continues to be a sensitive issue
Neither the Reno nor the Truckee Meadows Fire Chief was willing to speak on camera for his story
We've been told talks are continuing behind the scenes to try and hammer out an agreement that would provide for automatic aid between the two agencies
We'll let you know when there's anything new to report
stretches an area of great scenic interest
right at the foot of the Gran Sasso: in the foreground are rounded hills dotted with sheep pastures and cultivated fields; on the horizon the sleeping Giant
During the day you can enjoy extraordinary panoramic views; on the contrary
at night it is difficult to locate the right direction
since the absence of light and distinct landmark sites
This is why I suggest setting Contrada Camerale on Google Maps
The exterior is brightly lit and atmospheric: the structure features a large canopy
designed to shelter tables and chairs from the heat and direct rays during the summer
while from the large windows and vestibule
Crossing the threshold I had the perception that despite the small space
there were elements that amplified its depth without weighing it down
velvet sofa mixes with the surrounding atmosphere
The brick walls are emphasized by wall sconces and hanging lanterns; on the other hand
the rough wood counter with pronounced grain
blends with the essential details of the mise en place: the heterogeneous tables
As does the double-drawer cutlery box on each station

I had been offered an opportunity at Hotel Saturnia
Heinz Beck 's one-Michelin-starred restaurant at The Lanesborough
It was a year and a half full of discoveries; I learned a lot there
As we moved up the ranks the duties changed: I was even called to take on the role of sous chef at Castello di Fighine in Tuscany
I've come a long way: I've worked at Pipero's Rex
at Crescenzo Scotti's Cappero (Michelin star in the Aeolian Islands)
to get a sense of the situation: there were so many entrepreneurs

he had come to leave his resume at Carducci Bistrot
I recognized him right away and contacted him; without knowing it he took my place when I left La Caravella and Silvano Urban
and it was precisely I who hosted him in the English capital when he came for a consultation
and I only had time to hand him the keys to the apartment without being able to chat
"I was 14 years old when I began to approach the industry

In 2020 I worked with Marcello Rossi on the Adriatic coast
the adventure did not last long because of the pandemic
the intrepid people transformed what was once a pub into a gourmet
giving the location back an identity and downsizing it from 80 covers to 25
So the opening takes place in February 2023
suet and almonds; eggplant carpaccio macerated in beet juice
peanut and edible flower mayonnaise; olive mousse tasseled with parsley oil; vegetable-filled cannoli; steamed pizzette
carrot cream and lardo di colonnata; a reinterpretation of a local classic
and enriched with pecorino mousse; walnuts and gorgonzola
with which I would have ended the evening directly - in beauty
Accompanied by a glass of Trento DOC Brut Millesimato Endrizzi
crusco bell pepper breadsticks and two different types of bread
A butter candle literally blew me away; it was a pleasant surprise of which I had not been warned
We continue with a coffee-marinated duck ham with foie gras
The seared scallop with Jerusalem artichoke sauce and chips
is the dish that perhaps best represents the philosophy of the two young men at the stove
we prefer to follow the school of the master Heinz: few ingredients but clean
The combination is designed to enhance without overpowering
played on precise balances and soft contrasts
Hors d'oeuvres end with sweetbreads glazed with brown base and scented with sage
It goes very well with a Marramiero Altare
First propose their workhorse: fagottelli stuffed with cacio e pepe liquid
white truffle shavings and white stock is tender and pink
it means the cooking was done to perfection
Freshness and acidity clash with sweetness
certainly that tickle typical of red fruits prevails
and a fiordilatte ice cream with cocoa crumble
But what really struck me was the artisanal panettone with zabaglione and coffee air prepared live before our eyes
condensing and magically landing on the plate like a raindrop
intoxicated by the fragrance that filled the living room at home
I always ask in the doorway already wearing my coat
“We would like to cooperate more with prominent local personalities in the field of food and wine”
"I am currently overseeing the renovation of a farmhouse in Faiano
we continue to give moments of happiness; it is what allowed us to enter among the new entries in the Michelin Guide"

Here’s the Pop Culture Jeopardy Final Jeopardy (in the category Alphanumeric Company Names) for Wednesday, December 18, 2024 (Season 1, Game 9):
(correct response beneath the contestants)
(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Founder Daniel Katz was driving on the A24 (Autostrada 24) in Italy when the name of the route gave him the inspiration for his production company name. Founding the company with David Fenkel and John Hodges, the company has produced films such as Everything Everywhere All at Once, Lady Bird, and Moonlight.
Here’s the recap for Season 1, Episode 9:
(Categories: Maid For TV; The Tony Awards; Walter Egos; Jock Of All Trades; ____ & ____; Metal Fest)
Glazed and Confused, while not quite getting of to as hot of a start as a team did in Episode 8, did pick up 9 correct responses, and the Daily Double, to lead after 15. At the interviews, the scores were Glazed and Confused 8,600 Tampa Tamales 2,000 Brennith 400.
Glazed and Confused picked up another seven correct to continue leading after 30 clues.
(Categories: Frontmen; Video Game To Film; Calendar Girls; TV Show Change A Letter; Great Brits; Celebrity Makeup)
While Glazed picked up 12 correct, they went conservative on DD3, betting only 2,000; this left an opening for Tampa, who swept the round’s Triple Play to pull within striking distance going into clue 61.
Brennith ran out of time, preventing this from being a triple get. Glazed and Confused advances by 1 point after a skillful cover bet.
† – selection in same category as Daily Double
(Scores: Glazed and Confused 26,600 Tampa Tamales 17,200 Brennith 8,000)
Tampa Tamales: You have to be correct to win—go all in. (Actual bet: 17,200)
Glazed and Confused: Standard cover bet over Tampa Tamales is 7,801. (Actual bet: 7,801)
Brennith: You can’t win unless “Glazed…” overbets, but you might as well go all in just in case they do. (Actual bet: 7,999)
I also thought the winning team’s screen looked too much like “A2U”! [But that’s my nature, as I am always very careful to fill in forms, write checks, etc. VERY legibly.]
For the record, as soon as the FJ was displayed/read I’d thought that the correct response was bound to be “A24”.
San Benedetto, 13 April 2025 – Big party at Bonolis where the Sambenedettese away defeats Teramo 2-1 and returns to the professionals after a four-year absence.
The University of Teramo in Italy has signed an agreement that will pave the way to forge a closer collaboration on research
training and student mobility with African universities
Thanks to a partnership with the committee Comitato Centenario Canonizzazione San Gabriele
the university will admit African students into its degree courses with a fee waiver
while the committee will look after their accommodation
“The agreement signed today represents a first concrete step on the ‘Teramo Declaration’”
The agreement also includes internships and training for African students and students from the University of Teramo
In the words of the university’s rector Dino Mastracola
this is the first concrete step since the signing of the ‘Teramo Declaration’ in June
during a conference attended by the rectors of 29 African universities
and will pave the way for further collaboration
“The agreement signed today represents a first concrete step on the ‘Teramo Declaration’,” he said in a statement
“It’s important to not only offer African students the possibility to attend our university’s degree courses
but also to undertake a process leading to the mutual recognition of joint degrees and offer our students the opportunity to carry out internships in African universities.”
The president of the Comitato Centenario Canonizzazione San Gabriele
underlined that the agreement also marks the creation of a student home for “deserving” foreign students in the city
which has the potential to attract more students to Teramo
The Teramo Declaration was signed during the International Forum of the Gran Sasso in June in a conference with African university rectors hosted by the University of Teramo
The conference represented “an extraordinary event” for the university
and he expressed the hope it would lead to the possibility of building shared educational pathways “to train professionals able to realise projects based on a new vision of reciprocal development”

A recent Reno Fire Department report is adding new details about a house fire that killed two teens late last year
The fire broke out on Teramo Court west of Veterans Parkway just before 3 a.m
An investigation is underway after the fire
the house was engulfed in flames and eventually the roof collapsed
crews had to stop searching for possible victims
19-year-old Davis Barbee had been rescued and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment
13-year-old Travis Barbee in an upstairs bedroom
Reno Fire says two firefighters were also injured - one suffered burns to his leg
More than 40 personnel responded to the fire as well as Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue
Fire crews contained the fire to just the one house
The fire remains under official investigation
The report does not state a definitive cause either except that the fire started on the south side of the garage
friends and neighbors impacted by this tragic incident,” said Reno Fire Chief Dave Cochran
“The men and women of the Reno Fire Department acted swiftly and put forth an extraordinary effort to perform two rescues and extinguish this fire
we join our community in mourning this terrible tragedy.”

Wines from Abruzzo have long been recognised by their producer rather than the appellation
but as the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Colline Teramane hits its 20th anniversary
There are many great wines produced in Abruzzo
a region right between the Adriatic Sea and the massive mountains of the Apennines
grandiose mountains that well exceed 2,000 meters in height
However too often the wines of this region have been known only thanks to name of the single most famous producers rather than to the territory where the wines are born
To recognise a great wine produced in Abruzzo
the name of the producer has always been first and that of the appellation
There is one major denomination called Abruzzo DOC
And until recently there was no evocative story capable of catching consumers
The history of the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Colline Teramane was born with the idea to build an identity of an entire agricultural and productive community
Colline Teramane was not even a historically existing name
But a group of capable and far-sighted wine producers began to understand that a here Montepulciano had a character of its own
A wine with very intriguing characteristics of depth
aromatic complexity and an immediate and yet strong character
The Montepulciano produced in the Teramo hills was the key to understanding a territorial diversity that needed to be told and promoted
Because historically Montepulciano produced in this area has always been a fine wine
a wine that has always commanded higher average prices than the rest of Abruzzo
And the producers of the area understood that this diversity had to be told and protected and therefore created an appellation that did not exist before
In 2003 a group of founding wineries managed to get the DOCG for Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Colline Teramane – the first DOCG of the Abruzzo region- Today it can be produced in 33 municipalities entirely included in the province of Teramo
A place formerly suited to viticulture and historically dedicated to the vinification of its grapes
circumscribed between the Adriatic Sea and the mountain ranges of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga
a habitat and a microclimate that ensure Montepulciano optimal conditions for maturation and great quality and typicality in the glass
and a production that has doubled in the last two years alone
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Colline Teramane has become an example of excellent quality and a strong identity
A wine capable of expressing and perfectly be the voice of the territory in which it is produced
Territory that embraces the entire coastal and inland hills of the province of Teramo
Characterised to the east by wide and sinuous hills that slide towards the Adriatic Sea and to the north-west by the imposing presence of the Gran Sasso and the Monti della Laga
The sea and mountain breezes that caress and clean the vineyards
together with the clay-silty nature of the soils made up of plio-plestocene deposits
the excellent rainfall and the considerable temperature variations between day and night favoured by the nearby mountains guarantee Montepulciano unique and optimal that translate into great terroir wines
The Teramo hills are also characterised by a very particular hydrographic configuration
with four valleys bathed by as many rivers
Satinello and Vibrata which guarantee excellent humidity and biodiversity for the whole area
Twenty years after the creation of the DOCG
the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Colline Teramane DOCG has decided to sum up and investigate the close link that has been created in this area between man
the environment and the Montepulciano grape
which has given life to unique and well recognizable wine
even if the production styles that are not yet totally homogeneous
The producers of the Teramo Hills still present very different styles and ideas of refinement
which means that there may be wines of different vintages on the market
All this makes it harder to read this territory
The production disciplinary is very stringent on yields
with over 70% of the companies operating under a certified organic
integrated pest management or biodynamic quality regime
But in terms of refinements it leaves a lot of freedom to the producers
The ‘annata’ (the lowest and youngest wines from any given vintage) comes out the cellar a year after the harvest
while the Riserva must age for at least three years (including a minimum of one year in wooden barrels)
Producers are very free to experiment with different possibilities of vinification and refinement that a versatile grape like Montepulciano offers them
The result is on average very pleasing and of excellent average quality but the whole pictures is perhaps yet too uneven and not easy to read
The style of the wine makers makers varies a lot
There are those who seek spontaneity and integrity more declined towards fruit and drinkability or those who instead remain anchored to richer and more enveloping concentrations perhaps dedicated more to the international market
But in this lack of homogeneity there is still a clear organoleptic markers that Montepulciano from the Teramo hills manages to express punctually and clearly in the glass
An acidity and a dynamic energy with great savoury and ageing potential traits
the vintages tasted were many as well as the very different styles
Basically the 2021 and 2020 have given wines of great pleasure and drinkability that can only improve in the years to come
with little rain and also characterised by summer hailstorms that didn’t help
2018 and 2016 were years of great climatic balance which gave excellent wines and 2017 was quite hot and dry but which gave perhaps the best wines
dark and full even to the nose where it offers a nice fruity
Very juicy palate with a full-bodied and vibrant like plums and dark cherries
On the nose it opens releasing hints of humus
refreshing and very pleasant with a juniper
blood orange and pleasant bitter finish with firm tannins
On the palate everything plays out with refreshing tones
crunchiness and a pleasant almost citrine acidity
A perfect tannic touch and a lingering elegant finish
The nose is fresh thanks to a decisive balsamic breath
very clean and elegant with little extract and more elegance
Even in the mouth there is always the finesse that marks and defines it
with a beautiful salty length on the finish
The tannins are firm but not impetuous and the sip is truly surprising thanks to the beautiful citrus on the finish
woods and undergrowth then opens towards a more mature fruit character that continues its show even on the palate where the sip is full but flows agile and dynamic
A full-bodied wine with roasted almonds and a great smoky touch on the very long finish
An aromatic nose typical of the variety: blackberry and small berries
notes of earth and humus and a beautiful ferrous minerality
agility and a lot of elegance where the notes of ripe fruit comes back
It is a wine that begins its full expressiveness now but it will last for many years
Great structure and excellent drinkability at once
salty and very well balanced structure with a delicate but very vital lean finish
The nose is spicy and balsamic with medicinal herbs
Very savory palate with a long balsamic final wave that makes the sip satisfying and very voluptuous
A wine that makes us understand how the Montepulciano of the Teramo hills has a serious aging potential
It still keeps the currant and blueberry fruit intact and crunchy
The palate shows mature expressive fullness
complex and austere but very lively and vibrant with an acidity that dances around the mature and very pleasant tannins

Large granular lymphocyte leukemia (LGLL) is a chronic proliferation of clonal cytotoxic lymphocytes
usually presenting with cytopenias and yet lacking a specific therapy
including different subsets of patients distinguished by LGL immunophenotype (CD8+ Tαβ
NK) and the clinical course of the disease (indolent/symptomatic/aggressive)
Even if the etiology of LGLL remains elusive
evidence is accumulating on the genetic landscape driving and/or sustaining chronic LGL proliferations
The most common gain-of-function mutations identified in LGLL patients are on STAT3 and STAT5b genes
which have been recently recognized as clonal markers and were included in the 2017 WHO classification of the disease
A significant correlation between STAT3 mutations and symptomatic disease has been highlighted
STAT5b mutations could have a different clinical impact based on the immunophenotype of the mutated clone
they are regarded as the signature of an aggressive clinical course with a poor prognosis in CD8+ T-LGLL and aggressive NK cell leukemia
while they are devoid of negative prognostic significance in CD4+ T-LGLL and Tγδ LGLL
Knowing the specific distribution of STAT mutations helps identify the discrete mechanisms sustaining LGL proliferations in the corresponding disease subsets
Some patients equipped with wild type STAT genes are characterized by less frequent mutations in different genes
suggesting that other pathogenetic mechanisms are likely to be involved
we discuss how the LGLL mutational pattern allows a more precise and detailed tumor stratification
suggesting new parameters for better management of the disease and hopefully paving the way for a targeted clinical approach
These findings suggest that in patients devoid of STAT3 mutations
other mechanisms or lesions can be responsible of the activation of STAT3 pathway
Figure 1. STAT3 and STAT5b mutations described in T-LGLL and CLPD-NK. The STAT3 and STAT5b mutations, reported up to now in literature (13–32)
are indicated on their position in the exon upstream the corresponding protein domain
The point mutations and the insertions/deletions are reported above and below the schematic representation of the gene
TNFα-induced protein 3 (TNFAIP3) is another gene recurrently mutated in T-LGLL, that has been found altered in 4 cases within a cohort of 39 patients (24)
This gene is a tumor suppressor that encodes A20
a negative regulator of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB)
whose mutated form likely contributes to deregulate NF-kB activity
the association between TNFAIP3 and STAT3 mutations (3 out of 4 cases simultaneously carry both mutations) suggests that TNFAIP3 lesion is not only an alternative genetic mechanism to STAT alterations
but rather an additional event concurring to induce the LGLL phenotype
These data emphasize the central role of JAK/STAT pathway in T-LGLL patients regardless of STAT mutational pattern
this analysis demonstrates that several genetic lesions affect different functionally connected genes that can concur to drive a similar phenotype
Differently from T-LGLL, CLPD-NK appears to be devoid of STAT5b genetic lesions (15, 38, 39), with the only exception of the aggressive case discussed by Rajala et al., who subsequently developed ANKL (28)
In line with T-LGLL, TNFAIP3 mutation has been found in one out of 17 CLPD-NK patients (5.9%) (38)
Several points should be made in terms of the STAT5b mutations. STAT5b N642H has been indeed identified as an oncogenic driver in innate-like lymphocytes (48), and a mouse model expressing human N642H mutated STAT5b has been described to develop severe CD8+ T cell neoplasia (49). Provided that IL-15 is an upstream factor of STAT5b and that IL-15 transgenic mice develops the aggressive variant of T or NK cell leukemia (50)
the IL-15-STAT5 axis might be considered crucial for neoplastic transformation
The requirement of additional cytokine signals on STAT5b genetic lesions suggests that the indolent course of CD4+ T-LGLL or Tγδ LGLL carrying these genetic lesions might be due to the lack of one or more concurring events together with STAT5b mutations
These data emphasize the role of STAT3 activation in the pathogenesis of LGLL neutropenia
with STAT3 mutations likely being involved in further boosting this mechanism
potential parameter to select the initial best therapy for LGLL patients
The correlation found between STAT mutations and LGL immunophenotype has been highlighted
in fact STAT3 and STAT5b mutations are mutually exclusive and preferentially occur in phenotypically distinct leukemic LGLs
Within Tαβ-LGL disorders, STAT3 mutations characterize the CD8+ T-LGLL and have never been observed in the CD4+ subset (14, 29). Instead, STAT5b mutations have been mainly found in CD4+ TLGLL and also in the rare aggressive form of CD8+ T-LGLL (28), whereas in indolent CD8+ T-LGLL these genetic lesions seem to be rare (14, 29)
Also in CLPD-NK discrete subtypes can be identified by flow analysis. We observed that patients with CD56−/dim/CD16high/CD57− cytotoxic NK cells expansion include a subgroup characterized by a more symptomatic disease and the presence of STAT3 mutation (39)
no STAT mutation-linked phenotypes have been reported
Taken together, these data suggest that STAT3 mutation can occur in CD16+/CD56– LGLs, whereas STAT5b mutation may be detectable in CD56+ LGL (Figure 2)
This link suggests that CD16+/CD56– LGLs and CD56+ LGLs preferentially use STAT3 or STAT5b signaling
to develop LGL expansion and consequently they are differentially predisposed to be genetically hit
The nature of this relationship remains an open issue that needs to be elucidated
A larger analysis on CLPD-NK and Tγδ LGLL cases is mandatory to get insights also in these less frequent disorders
STAT3 and STAT5b mutations are preferentially found in phenotypically distinct LGL disorders and can correlate with different clinical presentations
The gain-of-function mutations in STAT3 and STAT5b genes up to now remain the most frequent abnormalities in LGLL
even if additional genetic lesions in STAT-related or cancer genes have been described
The complexity on the genetic background indicates that LGLL can be the result of different mechanisms
emphasizing the heterogeneity of the disease
even if a highly frequent recurrent genetic event has not been demonstrated
Being the most common and specific for this disorder
STAT3 mutation currently remains the genetic marker suggestive of LGLL
whereas STAT5b gene is frequently described mutated also in many other hematologic diseases beyond LGLL
Molecular analysis of STAT3 and STAT5b is unfortunately not so widely available nowadays
but the evidence that STAT mutations have a clinical impact supports the inclusion of this test in the LGLL diagnostic work-up
the evaluation of STAT mutations is suggested in combination with LGL immunophenotype data to perform an appropriate classification of indolent
STAT3 mutation is indicative of symptomatic disease and reduced patient survival; its evaluation is preferentially suggested for patients affected by CD8 T-LGLL
particularly when clonal expansion is sustained by CD16+/CD56– LGLs
STAT5b mutation has a controversial significance depending on the immunophenotype of the mutated clone
it is regarded as the signature of an aggressive clinical course with a poor prognosis in CD8+ TLGLL
characterized by CD56+/CD16–/CD57– LGLs
while it is devoid of negative prognostic significance in CD4+ T-LGLL and Tγδ LGLL
the key factors addressing these two different clinical courses are currently unknown
STAT3 and STAT5b mutations have been included in the 2017 WHO classification of LGLL with the indication that STAT5b mutation is associated with a more aggressive disease (12)
Now this statement needs to be updated (i) highlighting the correlation between STAT3 mutation
symptomatic disease and short patient survival and (ii) adding the issue of discovery of STAT5b genetic lesions also to indolent CD4+ T-LGLL and Tγδ LGLL
in terms of aggressive LGLL harboring STAT5b mutation
the current WHO classification recognizes only ANKL
but does not yet recognize the T-related variants as a separate entity
the introduction of STAT mutation screening as diagnostic tool
together with a correct immunophenotypic analysis
is encouraged for an accurate characterization of LGLL patients

The day after tomorrow you will face the Teramo that is, the second force of the championship: "Each game is truly a story in itself: we have played great games both against the big teams and against the teams fighting for survival. I wouldn't give too much weight to the standings: each time it is a different game to face both on a technical-tactical level and on a mental level in the knowledge that a lot, as always, depends on us".

I've had ercol's Teramo bed frame on my wishlist forever – this Habitat alternative offers a similar look for over £800 less
I haven't yet seen anything that's tempted me to part with my cash
combining a minimalist contemporary design with the timeless appeal of wood
the Chiltern bed frame has a carved top and bottom bar and rounded legs
the timeless Teramo Bed Frame features a headboard made from turned wooden spindles and elegantly tapered legs
However, just like the best mattresses
which is exactly why the ercol bed has remained on my wishlist rather than ending up in my bedroom
even with a reduction from £1465 to £1172 for the double
So imagine my excitement when I came across a Habitat alternative *and* it's now discounted in the Argos furniture sale from £400 to just £320 for the double
there are some major differences between the two pieces of furniture
Sign up to our newsletter for style and decor inspiration
The ercol bed frame is crafted from solid oak
whereas there's no mention of what type of wood the Habitat Chiltern bed frame is made from
I would imagine it's very unlikely to be solid oak
which means the ercol option is likely to be the stronger and more robust design
the look of the Chiltern bed is achieved through veneers
but that does mean there are more colour options available
Habitat says that the Chiltern bed frame is made from FSC certified wood
meaning the materials used for this product are responsibly sourced
ercol not only ensures the wood used to make its furniture is FSC certified
but also states it complies with UK Timber Regulations and has GIB (Grown in Britain) certifications
This means timber is locally sourced which helps to keep the supply chain as short as possible
with the ercol bed featuring a turned spindle top to the headboard and more tapered legs
whereas the Habitat option features a curved top and bottom bar
I think you could do a lot worse than considering one of these options

A magazine on religious liberty and human rights
Source: Italian Ministry of Justice.Recently
delivered the ground of a decision rendered on January 26
in the case of a former Jehovah’s Witness who had sought the annulment of a decision by an ecclesiastical judicial committee to disfellowship him
and damages for the physical and psychological problems allegedly derived from what disgruntled former members and anti-cult groups call “ostracism.”
A local Jehovah’s Witness entered into a conflict with the organization
He rejected the help that elders offered and
after deciding not to appear before an ecclesiastical judicial committee
He raised two claims against the Italian body of the Jehovah’s Witnesses
The first was that in the procedure leading to its disfellowshipment his right to the defense
which is also guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights
The court observed that the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Italy are recognized as a religion by the State
and that the Italian Supreme Court established in 1994
in a case concerning the Seventh-day Adventists
that under Italian law “interfering with a religious organization is totally forbidden to the state.”
that the Seventh-day Adventists have signed with Italy one of the concordats called “Intese” (the name “Concordato” is reserved to the agreement with the Roman Catholic Church)
while in the case of the Jehovah’s Witnesses an “Intesa” has been signed by the government but “not yet” ratified by the Parliament
the protection of religious organizations against any interference by the state in their internal matters derives from the Italian Constitution and exists even without an “Intesa.”
Italian courts have sometimes decided that
ascertain whether a religious organization did respect its own rules in internal judicial proceedings
and guaranteed to the defendant the fundamental right of being heard
these decisions also concluded that when the judiciary has to examine a matter pertaining to an ecclesiastical judicial system of a religious organization “it is enough that an essential core
and respected it in the specific case that the court examined
the defendant was invited to be heard at a hearing before a judicial committee
and it was “his decision only” not to appear and defend himself
The second claim by the former Jehovah’s Witness is that as a disfellowshipped member he suffered “ostracism” by his former friends
which caused psychological and even physical damages
and his wife not only filed for divorce but started several criminal cases against him
based on the same principle of non-interference by the state in religious matters
that secular judges “cannot rule on whether the principles taught by a religious confession are legitimate or otherwise.”
the court noted that “notwithstanding the need to strike a balance between the freedom given to the association and the right of the individual member,… the judicial review should be agreed and limited to the protection of fundamental personal rights.”
the plaintiff’s claim must be qualified as a claim for damages for unlawful conduct according to the tortious liability law
On this point the judgment also referred to the principle set by the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation in its ruling no. 9561
the Supreme Court stated that “since the alleged ostracism was a refusal to associate with him [the plaintiff]
as there is no law that requires a person to behave in the opposite manner
no discrimination took place.” The Court of Cassation also stated that the fundamental personal rights “are certainly not undermined by the free choice of some individuals
to break off or interrupt personal relations
which do not have a legal protection.”
according to this legal framework and the general tortious liability law
the judgement concluded that in the case the damages claim for “ostracism” could not be accepted
the Court considered in detail the evidence of damages claimed by the plaintiff
Regarding the divorce between the plaintiff and his spouse
includes the freedom for a spouse to divorce for religious reasons and because the “spiritual communion” between husband and wife no longer exists
As for the criminal cases filed by his ex-wife against the petitioner
they concern the non-payment of the alimony and physical threats and abuse
which have nothing to do with religion or ostracism
but the court ascertained that they existed before his disfellowshipping
which concluded that shunning can be freely taught and practiced in Belgium
the negative decisions remain the expression of a minority view with respect to a larger corpus of international decisions
which have all confirmed that interfering with the Jehovah’s Witnesses teachings on “ostracism” would violate both their religious liberty and the general principle that secular courts cannot interfere with how religions self-organize themselves
the Court of Teramo added its voice to other Italian courts that followed the majority position

An exhibition dedicated to Castelli’s famous ceramics: it is The Fragile Beauty
Castellian Historiate between the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries
held at the Pinacoteca Civica di Teramo from December 18
after its reopening in 2018 and the subsequent publication of the relevant guide in 2021
intends to continue the work of enhancing the city’s historical and artistic heritage with this exhibition
the first exhibition initiative set up in the renovated rooms
curated by Giuseppe Matricardi and Stefano Papetti
by presenting to the public a significant nucleus of castellan majolica from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that had remained confined to the deposits of the civic museum for long decades. The exhibition showcases the “fragile beauties,” or majolica tiles
that came out of the ceramic workshops of Castelli
a village in the province of Teramo that has imposed itself on the international scene thanks to the creation of ceramic artifacts characterized by daring experimental solutions and the reworking of images drawn from contemporary painting
such as the pieces on display that stand out
in thesphere of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Italian production
for the quality of the glazes enlivened by the application of gold
the accuracy of the pictorial rendering and the adherence to the most up-to-date figurative repertoires of the time
The ceramic tradition in the territory of Castelli apparently was already present in Etruscan times
but in reality it is not possible to establish with certainty the origins of this art
It is known that the earliest modern finds date back to the 15th century
while it was from the second half of the 16th century that Castelli pottery came to prominence and reached its apogee
becoming the most important economic activity in the village (and even today most of the inhabitants of Castelli
which has just over a thousand inhabitants
are employed in the pottery industry): Castelli pottery was widely popular as a quality product
and decorated in very imaginative and lively styles
The development of the art of ceramics is due to the fact that there are numerous clay quarries and several waterways around the village
as well as beech forests that guaranteed wood to fuel the kilns
which was used for landscapes or scenes with figures
religious or mythological or even allegorical scenes
The main characteristic of castellan historiato is the great vividness of the colors that have made it a particularly popular product since ancient times
Between the 16th and 18th centuries there were a number of important family workshops active (those of the Grue
Gentili and Pompei families in particular)
which handed down the craft from generation to generation and often came to create products of artistic importance (think
of the ceilings of the church of San Donato
defined by Carlo Levi as the “Sistine Chapel of majolica”)
Castelli’s ceramic production entered a decline in the nineteenth century
due to changes in the trends of taste and competition from international porcelain
Today a few potters’ workshops are still active
passing on their knowledge at the family level
The exhibition at the Pinacoteca Civica di Teramo displays a fairly homogeneous ensemble in terms of period and quality that mostly chronicles the style and artistic expression of Abruzzo’s most influential family of majolica makers
and includes a devotional plaque depicting St.Anthony of Padua attributable to Liborio Grue
a Holy Family of Cortonesque inspiration attributable to Candeloro Cappelletti and a series of plates with Arcadian landscapes in the style of Nicola Grue the Younger
who belonged to a collateral branch of the family
in order to better contextualize the importance and international notoriety acquired in the first decades of the 18th century by the artifacts made in Castelli
the exhibition will take advantage of the contribution of some works from the Matricardi collection of Ascoli Piceno
recently judged by Timothy Wilson as the most important private collection of Castellian majolica
which was presented in Teramo in 2012 on the occasion of an exhibition that was fundamental to the development of studies on the activity of Abruzzo potters
Municipally owned works will thus be flanked by plates and vases made by Carlo Antonio Grue
whose figure has taken on extraordinary relevance thanks to the studies of Fernando Filipponi in the context of the artistic activities promoted by Pope Clement XI and his sons Aurelio Anselmo and Liborio
with the ’intention of freeing from a condition of local phenomenon what was achieved by the Grue family
thanks to family ties with the Dukes of Acquaviva and the Albani family
is instead placed in a context open to the most up-to-date instances of European culture of classicist and Arcadian matrix that allowed the works that came out of their workshops to be contended by the most enlightened collectors of the 18th century
In the exhibition this vocation to make majolica a first-rate artistic product is demonstrated by a series of precious artifacts destined for important personalities on the international political and cultural scene: this is the case of the four plates with Arcadian landscapes introducing Vetero and Neo Testament episodes placed in the background painted by Francesco Antonio Saverio Grue and enclosed
within refined 18th-century carved and gilded wooden frames that declare their provenance from the Savoy royal collections; they belonged in fact to a sophisticated admirer of Rococo art such as Umberto II
Also the series of admirable saucers painted with pastoral scenes attributed to Aurelio Anselmo and his brother Liborio Grue bearing the Testa-Piccolomini family coat of arms or the large plates with the heraldic insignia of Cardinal Ruffo show how in the eighteenth century the most important names of the aristocracy made use of what was painted in Castelli for the decoration of their homes
the original function of use for these precious objects had been lost and they were considered rarities to be displayed in cabinets de curiositès or hung on the walls of refined rooms to be appreciated by a host of select connoisseurs
now with the exhibition La fragile bellezza Istoriato castellano fra XVII e XVIII secolo (The Fragile Beauty Castellian Historials between the 17th and 18th centuries) we want to even more demonstrate how the skill of the Grue family’s artists had succeeded in the daring challenge of transforming a production technique born for the production of objects intended for domestic use into a true form of artistic expression
The exhibition, with free admission, is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. For information, visit the Teramo City Council website

she was appointed Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics
she served as a consultant for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
Noemi contributed to more than 50 publications
and has given more than 40 lectures at national and international conferences
One of her main focuses was the study of decision-making by individuals and its consistency with the basic principles of economics and game theory through the use of laboratory experiments
with applications especially to health topics
Her work in this area has been particularly rich
among others: human behaviour under ambiguity
a situation in which probabilities do not exist or the decision-maker does not know actual probabilities; the behavioural patterns contributing to the improvement of individuals’ suboptimal choices; the role played by learning and advice in reducing suboptimality for risk-neutral subjects
Some of Noemi’s laboratory experiments were conducted with Daniela Di Cagno
Professor of Economics at LUISS University
“We will never forget her grace and her clever and independent way of thinking,” says Di Cagno
Another important stream of her analysis looked at the economic impacts of social protection programmes across sub-Saharan Africa
Her work contributed to increasing FAO’s international standing in the realm of evidence-based policy dialogue and informed the design of these programmes
This includes research on the effectiveness of labelling and messaging for influencing the use of cash transfers; on the synergies that can be achieved by combining agricultural and social protection interventions; and on the role of social protection in encouraging livelihood diversification
risk-taking and women’s economic inclusion
She also provided invaluable technical advice and guidance on evaluation and quantitative assessment for several FAO projects in other regions and helped to shape FAO's research agenda on social protection
committing to the highest intellectual standards
Noemi will be remembered not only for her scientific and professional brilliance
her dedication to work and commitment to the institutions she worked for but also for her kindness and human warmth
“Noemi willingly engaged with and supported colleagues of all levels and did not hesitate to go the extra mile to coach them,” Kangasniemi says
“Friends and colleagues also remember her as a wonderful conversationalist
