Forbes contributors publish independent expert analyses and insights
11:15am ESTShareSaveCommentVasto is an ancient Italian town that is now a draw for tourists who come for the marina and the ..
whence came my grandfather and grandmother in 1905 at a time when it was an impoverished hill town whose history reflected the ups-and-downs of foreign occupation
from the Lombards and Normans to the Turks and Mussolini
The marina at Vasto has a panorama of the Adriatic Sea
I have visited several times in the past fifty years
at first finding its charms were considerable if crestfallen
The painting at the top of this article by an unknown artist has hung on my family’s walls for a hundred years
and the real Vasto looks exactly the same as in the painting
Yet in the past twenty-five years Vasto has been bolstered and scrubbed as a very popular tourist town
especially in summer when Europeans blanket the beach and marina below the main town
a fine Romanesque Cattedrale di San Giuseppe and a baroque Church of Santa Maria Maggiore
which is said to possess a thorn worn by Jesus at his crucifixion
The Resiedenza Ablingh is sequestered and has a modern rusticity
Off season Vasto returns to the local ebb and flow of life
bakeries and trattorias full of people speaking the regional Abruzzese dialect
my wife and I stayed at the tucked-away Residenza Amblingh (Via Portone Panzotto)
with a panoramic view of the Neapolitan Gardens and Adriatic Sea
Owner/hosts Massimo and Raffaella are very proud of this secluded
beautifully decorated and well-lighted 18th century residence wherein all has been given a modern rusticity with superb amenities
Vasto has a number of restaurants and trattorias I’ve been visiting for decades
including Hostaria del Pavone (Barbarotta 15/17) uptown and
Pizzeria aux Fils du Chevalier's menus has pages and pages of variations
My favorite pizzeria on the hill is named Pizzeria aux Fils du Chevalier (Piazza San Pietro)
a two-story eatery that always draws a crowd––particularly in good weather for the terrace overlooking the Gulf––whose menu lists four pages of variations
Lo Scudo (Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi 39) has been around since 1867
and is a culinary repository of Abruzzese tradition
known for its brodetto alla Vastese teeming with sole
red mullet and several more species of seafood
The pastas are all 12 euros and include a seafood risotto and cavatelli with mussels
The fritto misto (mixed fried seafood) is impeccably crisp and flavorful
Brodetto alla Vastese is a lavish specialty served at Zi Albina
Whenever I return to Vasto I always head for Trattoria Zì Albina (Via Luigi Marchesani 15)
owing to its clout with the local fishermen
The only change I saw last time was the once orange walls are not sea blue; otherwise it has the same simple charm and warm service staff
Vasto's architecture is largely late Romanesque and Baroque
We began our meal with a ravioli stuffed with burrata and shrimp in a light tomato sauce; then came to grandest of brodettos––40 euros for two or more people––brought in a huge bowl
abundant with half a dozen kinds of seafood
And then they bring you a large plate of spaghetti on which you ladle the remaining broth from the bowl
For me Vasto is returning to my ancestral home
but for anyone traveling the Adriatic Coast it will receive you come as a town that shows how resilient Abruzzo has become in the last twenty years

State University were recently notified that their student visas were revoked by the federal government
and now other students on campus are speaking out on their behalf.
is speaking out against a decision that sent his roommate
"Get their attention in terms of holding the school accountable
so that way they could condemn what is happening with their international students
but if we abandon our international students
then that's not what I would call protecting the pack,” Vasto said
Al Gurad's student visa was revoked by the federal government last week
but he says Al Gurad received the notification from the officer of international services on campus
I remember I had just come back from a green
chemical engineering class that I was taking
And that's when Sal comes out of his room very wide eyed with a grave expression on his face
and he told me that he had just been notified that his visa had been revoked
and he had been given no reason as to why," Vasto said
He says Al Gurad was a hard worker who kept to himself and was studying to get a degree in engineering management
state because he had the opportunity to study in different countries
because he had experience living in Michigan
So that's why he picked North Carolina was another opportunity to come and live the American dream," Vasto said
He said Al Gurad was only involved in his studies and his on-campus job
"He was never a member of any kind of protest or any kind of social activism, which to me, that's why I felt the story was this important to submit to the 'Technician,' because if this administration can target people for exercising free speech
and now they're targeting people who are not even using that free speech
this is an indication that something is wrong
and this is something that deserves to be called out," Vasto said
referring to the university's student newspaper
Vasto says Al Gurad returned to Saudi Arabia on Sunday
"He expressed to me a feeling of peace that it was the right thing to do to go back to Saudi Arabia...
He was at risk of detainment and risk of deportation
so for him to return to Saudi Arabia was the best decision he could make,” Vasto said
Vasto says what happened to Al Gurad is a sign of a bigger problem
“Students all around the country are being detained and being deported and losing their student visas for free speech
And now we have a case of students like Sal who are not exercising that speech at all
and they're still losing their voices," Vasto said
A State Department spokesperson declined to comment on Al Gurad's case
we generally will not comment on Department actions with respect to specific cases,” the spokesperson
has a zero-tolerance policy for noncitizens who break the laws
N.C. State's Office of International Services said in a statement April 1 that the school did not seek the visa terminations and wasn't directly notified
"We are deeply concerned about the lack of communication from federal agencies and the impact of these actions on our international students," the statement said
The school added it is committed to helping the two students complete their semester "in any way we can," including study abroad.
There are more than 6,000 international students at NC State from 120 different countries
however two students had their lives turned upside down last week
and were forced to rush to get a flight back home
"My roommate came out of his room with a shocked distraught look on his face," said NC State Senior Philip Vasto
Then Vasto said his roommate started to panic
"He just got of the phone with the school and the school told him the state department revoked his visa but didn't provide a reason whatsoever," Vasto said
and flew back to Saudi Arabia at the advice of his family
and started studying at NC state 5 months ago
"If he remained here he could be subject to detainment by ICE," Vasto said
The terminations come after Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Thursday that the State Department had revoked more than 300 student visas
Vasto said his roommate never communicated with the federal government directly just NC State
"He had only a few days to get ready to leave the country," Vasto said
He was working to get his masters in engineering and also was a campus dining employee
The university issued this response after news spread thru out the international student body:
"NC State did not initiate these terminations
and was not directly notified of the changes
We are deeply concerned about the lack of communication
from federal agencies and the impact of these actions on our international students."
"I'm just flabbergasted its a disgrace," Vasto said
Several statements have been made following the announcement of the two students having their student visa revoked including NC State's Muslim Students Association
In the statement posted on Instagram
the organization pointed out the two students were both studying international engineering
"We are deeply saddened and outraged by the recent forced departure of two NC State students whose student visas were unjustly terminated," the statement read in part
The statement went on to say the student organization is calling for full transparency into the process leading to the students visas being revoked and calls for their reinstatement
state leaders and federal officials to ensure safety
respect and freedom for international students
Congresswoman Deborah Ross also released a statement following the two students having their visas revoked in a post on X
The State Department also provided a statement in response to WRAL's questions:
Some normal ailments due to months of work, but the team is ready for the final chapter of the season, which would mean remaining in the category.
"Finally the phase where the games are decided begins - says the Nerazzurri coach - and we get there as we wanted, in a reasonable state of health, despite the absence of Alessandro Grotti, who we were unable to replace on the market and is a serious absence both in technical and mental terms, in terms of solidity and dressing room. However, the rest of the gang is there: this is what we have been hoping for for some time".
"We don't know what it would be like to play at full strength and they might not have any reference points. We'll have to be good and smart in managing the crowd and the pressure of the series: if we can put a grain of sand in their gear, everything can change starting from game one. We're excited, even though we're aware of the complexity. We know we have a chance."
After the final gavels fell in the legislatures in Idaho
Big Ag’s corporate lobbyists may be stinging from a hard lesson: that accountability still matters
Agricultural interests carry enormous political sway in Boise, Des Moines and Jefferson City. That’s why these states were a testing ground for pesticide manufacturers’ efforts to shield themselves from corporate liability
Bayer launched a campaign in each state to push legislation exempting them from lawsuits alleging cancer and other harms
Bayer leaders thought they were in for a slam dunk on a home court
The company mines phosphate in Idaho before shipping it to Iowa
Bayer’s pesticide division is headquartered in Missouri
where nearly 70% of the land is planted in corn and soybeans
crops that generally require dosing with Roundup and similar pesticides
some 5.5 million acres are planted in crops that are treated with glyphosate-based pesticides
Idaho is of course famous for its potatoes
has paid over $11 billion in settlements and jury awards based on potential cancer risks associated with the product
The company has obvious incentive to enlist politicians to stop the bleeding
the first version of the bill was defeated by three votes on the Senate floor
Later versions never came up for a hearing
Democrats opposed weakening legal access for farmworkers
and rural families who can all be impacted by dangerous pesticides
They were joined by conservative Republicans who took issue with special deals for corporate interests
especially immunity for state-owned ChemChina who’s fighting claims that paraquat
a pesticide banned in 60-plus countries (including China)
Opposition came from both sides of the aisle in Iowa as well
where skyrocketing cancer rates were enough to sink the bill
Democrats were joined by right-leaning senators who promised a filibuster if the bill advanced for a vote
Legal immunity was included as part of the House Republicans’ draft farm bill
It’s unclear how the bipartisan alliances fostered in the states will translate in Congress
Bayer and others should stop erecting legal roadblocks and instead learn from failed efforts of the tobacco and asbestos industries and ditch efforts to avoid accountability
and either relabel or reformulate products to ensure they safeguard our air
live up to their prior promises to oppose any efforts to “erect barriers to prevent legitimate cases from being brought before the courts.”
the public can only assume those promises are hollow

which combined thematic-problematic investigations with tributes
Since 1975 the Prize has abandoned its role as an artistic competition to transform itself into a quality art exhibition
This year’s edition of the Vasto Contemporary Art Award will run until October 26
The threatened point break is the Adriatic’s finest
The mayor of an Italian city thinks it isn’t a big deal to build a breakwater in front of the town’s left-hand point break because “surfing can be done anywhere.” In a country where the sport is still largely unknown to the masses, the mayor is clearly not privy to the rarity of a good point break, let alone on the Adriatic Coast.
The wave in danger is a 300-meter long left-hander called Grotta del Saraceno in the town of Vasto on Italy’s east coast. In June of last year, the city made plans and contracted out a 3.3 million-Euro job to put a series of breakwaters 40-50 meters into the sea parallel to the coastline
which would effectively turn the beach into a lagoon and destroy the wave
is to mitigate erosion in the area and protect properties
who by chance stumbled upon the municipality’s plans in September of last year
have been left puzzled and outraged by the plans
Back in February they pushed the story into national news by holding a paddle-out at the spot to protest the project
Now they’re going down the legal avenue and taking the matter to court
a local surfer who has been frequenting the spot for more than two decades
“These people think that it can be stopped
but it’s not scientifically possible.”
the erosion in the bay is not particularly severe and there are only three properties in the bay
all of which are more than 10 meters above sea level and two of which have already been protected by near-shore breakwaters built in recent years
But the mayor says that these properties are “some of the best touristic businesses” in the area
which prompted the local government to prioritize acting on the beach’s sand flow
determined that the sand dune system near the surf spot at the north end of the beach needed to be restored to control erosion
Drastically altering the shoreline and coastal access is business as usual in Italy
it is common practice to license out the rights of beaches to private companies that line them with umbrellas and chairs
Trave estimates that more than one third of all the beaches in the country are subject to this type of ownership arrangement
and the coast-parallel breakwaters are a commonly-used method to guarantee the sand build up (and subsequent tourism profits) on such beaches
“We are trying to demonstrate that the project is exaggerated in terms of costs and techniques involved,” said Trave
“This project will forever cancel one of the best point breaks in the Adriatic Sea and change the characteristics of this bay.”
A newly formed coalition of surfers, called Littorale Vivo, is challenging the breakwater in court. They’ve put together a crowdfunding campaign to fund their opposition of the project and resulting legal costs
They say it’s the first case of its kind in Italy – a challenge to an infrastructure project to save a wave
But they don’t expect a resolution anytime soon
the legal arguments of each side and their experts could cause the legal proceedings to drag out over an extended period of time
While the phrases “point break” and “Adriatic Sea” may seem contradictory
the unique bathymetry of Grotta del Saraceno creates the best imitation of open ocean surfing that can be found on that stretch of coast
The sea has enough fetch to create two-meter swells with periods of up to 10 seconds that peel for hundreds of meters along the sandy bay
Trave estimates the spot breaks about 30 days per year
Recently, the mayor of Vasto, Francesco Menna, stoked the fire further by taking to national television to defend the project. Menna told the host that while he finds the “sea squirrels” (aka surfers) of Vasto funny
he has more important responsibilities to prioritize as mayor
the local government hasn’t shown any inclination to listen to the surfers or collaborate on a compromise
So the fate of one of the Adriatic’s best surf spots lies in the hands of the Italian legal system

This afternoon the Kansas City Royals traded veteran catcher Drew Butera to the Colorado Rockies for left-handed pitching prospect Jerry Vasto
The Rockies drafted Vasto in the 24th round in 2014 from Felician College (now Felician University) in Lodi
he moved to the bullpen in pro ball and moved up the ladder relatively quickly
reaching Double-A in 2016 and Triple-A in 2017
He’s spent most of 2018 with Triple-A Albuquerque
posting a 3.16 ERA in 37 innings with a 44/18 K/BB
Vasto appeared briefly in the majors this year
giving up three hits and three runs in two-thirds of an inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 10th
He features a low-90s fastball and a decent slider
but has actually shown a reverse platoon split for most of his career
meaning he’s not necessarily a traditional LOOGY type
At this point he is a Grade C prospect who could fit in the back of the Royals bullpen in 2019

The Royals began their juggling of the 40-man roster today by outrighting right-handed pitcher Nate Karns from the 40-man roster and losing left-hander Jerry Vasto on waivers to the Cubs
The Royals needed to activate four players from the 60-day disabled list this week - Karns
Jason Hammel and Alcides Escobar were granted free agency
and the Royals simply outrighted Karns to Omaha
Karns was acquired from the Royals in a trade with the Mariners before the 2017 season for outfielder Jarrod Dyson
but missed the final four months of that season following thoracic outlet syndrome surgery
He was set to be in the starting rotation out of spring training this year
but was placed on the disabled list just before the season opener with inflammation in his elbow
He continued to suffer setback and never throw a pitch this season
Karns turns 31 next month and has suffered a myriad of injuries throughout his six-year Major League career
Jerry Vasto is a 26-year old left-handed reliever acquired in August from the Colorado Rockies in a trade for Drew Butera
He appeared in just five games with the Royals
Once the Royals activate their players from the 60-day disabled list, it will bring the Royals to a full 40-man roster, although they may still want to add minor leaguers such as Josh Staumont
and Arnaldo Hernandez to protect them from the Rule 5 draft
Other candidates to be dropped from the 40-man roster include Paulo Orlando

AXOR presents three bathroom concepts that are not merely places of function

The Royals add an intriguing lefty reliever while parting ways with their veteran backup catcher
The Rockies have acquired catcher Drew Butera from the Royals for left-handed pitcher Jerry Vasto

was the Royals’ primary catcher for the first month of the season and has seen action roughly once a week since Salvador Perez returned from the left knee sprain he suffered in late March
posting a .188/.259/.289 slash line with two homers in 166 plate appearances
and while he was once regarded as an above-average defender
he’s been somewhat shaky behind the plate this year
While the expectations placed upon him won’t be too great
the Rockies will have to hope that Butera can revert to the form he displayed in 2016
when he posted a career-high .808 OPS over 133 plate appearances
It’s difficult to imagine that Butera will have that much of a role in Colorado over the last month of the season
have been below-average both at and behind the plate
it’s hard to argue that Butera will be any better
He’s a solid emergency backup if they need Iannetta or Wolters to pinch-hit and need a late-game defensive replacement
but it’s hard to say he’s much better in that role than 27-year-old Tom Murphy
who has been solid in limited big-league duty this year and has a .901 OPS at Triple-A Albuquerque
though immediately optioned to Triple-A Omaha by the Royals
could be an interesting addition to a Kansas City bullpen that has been historically bad this season
He allowed three earned runs over two-thirds of an inning in his major-league debut on June 10 of this year
but he has posted pretty good numbers at Albuquerque
throwing for a 3.16 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP with 44 strikeouts and 18 walks over 37 innings
Those numbers look particularly impressive when you consider that Alburquerque’s ballpark is one of the most hitter-friendly stadiums in North America
the Royals recalled catcher Cam Gallagher (who has arguably outperformed Butera in the majors this year
posting a .208/.240/.292 slash line over 25 plate appearances)

John Del Vasto has announced he is stepping down as president Groupe Del Vasto and Mauro Cifelli will take over the role

“My priority over the years has been to assemble a strong leadership team to drive growth and ensure continuity,” said Del Vasto
who founded automotive parts distributor and franchisor in 1986
“The nomination of Mauro to the position of president and CEO is the result of a planned and deliberate transition involving the board of directors and our HR committee.”
Cifelli joined the Montreal-based organization – which has seven distribution centres in Quebec
New Brunswick and Nova Scotia as Vast-Auto Distribution – in 1994 and was most recently the company’s vice president of sales and marketing
He has also served as chairman of the Automotive Industries Association of Canada and is also the chairman of the governing council of the Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association
which represents the interests of warehouse distributors across North America
he has played a pivotal role within the organization,” Del Vasto said in a statement
recognized management skills and in-depth knowledge of our industry will serve him well in this position.”
Cifelli will be work with the company’s board of directors and senior management team

“John’s vision and leadership have built Groupe Del Vasto into one of Canada’s leading automotive aftermarket companies that is committed to its employees

Mesura’s Vasto Gallery is located in Poblenou
whose close proximity to the sea historically led to an industrial urban fabric
the area saw a decrease in industrial activity
leaving unused spaces that are currently being transformed to accommodate the new wave of creativity that is breathing life back into the quarter
Here, the architects selected the industrial building as the site of its Vasto Gallery
The apartment opens up with a lofty room with large windows along three walls
and an open plan just divided by two rows of steel columns
Its unique ceiling mirrors the local construction techniques from the nineteenth century
made popular by Catalan architect Joan Torras who used steel beams alongside flat ceramic pieces to create a vaulted structure
spacious atmosphere and unique structure of the apartment
a private and public space; the public space functioning as a living room and exhibition area
To create a sense of lightness and fluidity
the separation of the two areas is done by a service core
that is separate from the walls and ceiling
This central volume stands out not as a wall
allowing occupants to take in the entire space
This living area is designed to be highly flexible
with only two static objects: an eight meter-long stainless steel kitchen counter and a long off-white table along the opposite wall
allowing it to be configured in a variety of ways
the same concept is applied — the bedroom and bathroom are combined into one space
bathtub and sink being movable items and the shower
walk-in-closet and toilet being in the center
The first involves the restoration of the existing features of the house through construction
while the second focuses on the interior design with new elements
These elements are detached from the boundaries of the house and present a contrast to the white-washed walls and light-wood furniture
creating a contemporary and cohesive identity throughout the space
The focus is then drawn to the pieces scattered around

‘I was thinking if I start early in the morning
I’ll have all the time in the world to reach the summit’

A Brooklyn man who had to call the emergency services twice in two days of hiking in Arizona offered a warning to other hikers
saying: “Life isn’t worth losing for a cool Instagram picture.”
Philip Vasto, 28, called 911 on 2 March when he found himself lost on Humphreys Peak, north of Flagstaff in central Arizona
He called the emergency services a second time the following day
Mr Vasto is an “independent contractor” who has described himself as an “experienced hiker”, according to the Arizona Daily Sun.
He was in Phoenix for work when he decided he would try to summit the tallest peak in the state
The trail to the top is more than 10 miles long and rises more than 3,000 feet
he estimated it would take between two and three hours to reach the top
But he hadn’t accounted for the amount of snow on the trails at this time of year
He started his first attempt to reach the top at 2.30pm on 2 March
quickly starting to struggle to find the start of the trail underneath the snow
it remained difficult to navigate the snow
“It was very easy to get off the trail and fall into the snow,” Mr Vasto told the Arizona Daily Sun.
He called 911 at around 6.50pm to say that he was lost on the trail but that he was attempting to find his way back
The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit found that Mr Vasto was near Humphreys Trail at an elevation of around 10,600 feet (3,230m)
Sgt Aaron Dick said they spoke to Mr Vasto about the importance of hiking with the right equipment and planning ahead
He said they told Mr Vasto to come back in a few months when the conditions would be better
“I was thinking if I start early in the morning
I’ll have all the time in the world to reach the summit,” he told the paper
Mr Vasto met two other hikers on the trial
husband and wife Jonathan and Alberta O’neill
They decided to turn around at 3.30pm when they still hadn’t reached the top
“I definitely did not want to get caught on the mountain past dark,” Mr O’neill told the Arizona Daily Sun. “I decided that we had to put ego aside
Around 15 minutes after the couple had turned around
was just how powerful the wind was blowing,” Mr Vasto said
He estimated that the gusts of wind reached about 25 mph
He started to feel light-headed and “numb all over”
With only five per cent of his phone battery remaining
Mr Vasto called for search and rescue a second time at around 5pm
“I did not know just how cold it would be to be up there at that time of year,” Mr Vasto said
let me call somebody because that way they can at least know that I’m out here.”
“It was very apparent that he wasn’t prepared for the climate that he had gotten himself into,” fellow hiker Phillip Wyatt told the outlet
adding that that Vasto seemed to be completely exhausted
“I don’t think he was physically capable of getting back down before sunset.”
Coconino County Search and Rescue asked for help from the Arizona Department of Public Safety Northern Air Rescue Unit and a helicopter was sent to retrieve Mr Vasto and Mr Wyatt
who had decided to stay with the 28-year-old
Mr Vasto was “encouraged to not attempt the hike again” by the search and rescue team
“One of the potential pitfalls of the technology is that people take a shortcut and don’t spend as much time preparing, gathering info or building up their skills to be sufficient in these kinds of austere environments,” Sgt Dick told the Arizona Daily Sun
or they’re not enjoying themselves and it’s not working out the way they wanted to
make a call and summon assistance quickly.”
“I don’t think the technology is all bad,” he added
“Responsible use of the technology is the thing we want to get across.”
“The nice thing about mountains and canyons is that they will be here next week
adding that incidents like this most often occur when people show an “unwillingness to back down”
“I highly advise NOT attempting Humphreys Peak in the winter,” Mr Vasto wrote in a post on Instagram
“It was arguably scarier and more dangerous than Kilamanjaro at this time of year
life isn’t worth losing for a cool Instagram picture
Part of being a hiker is realizing your own human limitations and respecting the mountain and the climate.”
The paper noted that search and rescue operations in Arizona cost about $1,000 an hour and are funded by the state’s taxpayers
The Daily Sun asked Mr Vasto why he didn’t include his calls to the emergency services in his telling of the story on social media.
“We make posts on social media about how we want others to see us,” he said, adding that he was worried the full details would lead to judgement.
On the AllTrails app, Mr Vasto wrote in a review that hikers should “wait for warmer months before attempting” to summit Humphreys Peak.
Mr Vasto is planning to have another go at the trail in May alongside Mr Wyatt.
“I really respect Phil’s perseverance,” Mr Wyatt said. “I hope that he’s able to make it to the top sometime.”

The new festival season promises to be a period full of new live acts for Cryex
Hard News spoke with the three APEX artists about their upcoming plans
READ ALSO: Cryex is heading into a colorful festival season with spectacular live act Band of Color
Vasto will be on stage for the first time with his live act ElektraWave
“This theme was created from a dual perspective,” explains the APEX artist
“I have been using the black and yellow combination for some time
which fits well with the theme of electricity.”
Een bericht gedeeld door MARVIN DE GROOT | VASTO (@vastodj)
At Vasto it is not just a live act. We can also expect an ElektraWave album at the end of next month. “The ElektraWave album consists of 18 tracks that have the signature Vasto sound. This album also contains collaborations with artists such as Element, Scarra and MC Livid.” Tonight, at 00:00, the title track of the album, will be released. You can pre-save the track here
The full album will follow a few weeks later on March 29
Scarra will be on stage for the first time with his brand new live act Face of Violence
“This live act will be a unique mix of music styles
accessible and sometimes less accessible arrangements
Een bericht gedeeld door Scarra (@scarra_dj)
Scarra himself sees Face of Violence as a kind of transition from adolescence to adulthood
“While I used to go into the studio and see where the ship would founder
I have never had such a strong vision for my act
If you had asked me last year if I wanted to do a live act
Now I am more than ready to show the world my real face: Face of Violence.”
“Band of Color has become a very personal live act,” says Cryex
“I am increasingly finding my calling in making music and find it more and more important to increase the bond between myself
my music and the fans.” It’s no surprise that color will play a significant role during Band of Color
unique visuals associated with a certain color
You will also hear the colors in the music because some sets include a specific track.”

In addition to brand new Cryex music, there are also many new collabs with other artists from the harder styles scene. As we have come to expect from Cryex, his hair and nails will also match the color. You can read more about Band of Color in this article.

If like me, you spent this winter staring at the sun-drenched, slow-paced romantic luxury of Call Me By Your Name
there’s a good chance you’ve spent the subsequent six months repeating "I want to go to Italy on holiday," ad nauseam
I may have the answer to your mantra - welcome to Siren Festival
Located in the obscenely picturesque town of Vasto in Southern Italy, not only do you get to lose your days kicking through nature reserves and lounging on beaches smoother than a Galaxy chocolate bar, you also get to spend your evenings watching some of alternative indie’s finest
And if you're not already sold on what Italy has to offer
here are five reasons you absolutely cannot miss Siren Festival
With an eclectic lineup that spans rock
John Lydon’s post-punk aggressors bring their melodic and abrasive performance to the walled stage in Vasto. Their last release was 2015’s What The World Needs Now
Certainly an act you can never second guess
An antidote to Lydon’s thick grooves and confrontational vocals is the glistening shoegaze of Slowdive - the former Creation band returned last year with their first record in 22 years, a serene self-titled gem
Imagine their set in the balmy mediterranean heat
Rachel Goswell’s vocals drifting you closer to bliss with each breath
But if it’s a bit more energy you’re after
then make sure you’re ready to bump and grind with some olive-skinned cuties and get yourself to Belgium’s mid-'00s mixtape enthusiasts 2ManyDJs
Blending underground anthems next to guiltily indulgent classics you know this is the one that’ll have you dancing like a local
It’s not all about the big-hitters, and one artist on the lineup that we’re excited about is 24-year-old Italian musician Adele Nigro, also known as Any Other. Her second album Two, Geography, is due later this year and the first single "Walkthrough" is a brutally building piece of indie-folk that growls with prowess and seethes with a melodic lilt
It says in the city guide: "If you don’t like fish
don’t come to Vasto." Fished fresh from the Adriatic Sea
you can dine on a diet of fish and shellfish and delicious local wines all weekend long
One must-visit spot is the Trabocco Cungarelle
a remarkable-looking restaurant that seems to be held up by stilts a rickety bridge walk out into the sea
another restaurant with a lot of fish on the menu
also stocks wine from the local Fontefico vinery
while Cibo Matto picks up high points for their pasta and
While the South of Italy may not be best known for its wine
it’s home to some of the oldest vineyards in the world so make sure you sample the local offerings
A couple of great bars in Vasto are Bau Bar whose happy hour is unbeatable and Bar Roma which specialises in cocktails and jazz
There is also a covered market on Saturdays where you can buy a range of local cheeses
Set in the middle of the stunning old town Piazza Del Popolo
the main stage is pretty much the town square flanked by gorgeous ancient Roman stone buildings
Giardini D’Avalos is the boutique stage set in a walled garden
and there’s even a stage on the beach for us Brits (the only people who’ll be sunbathing at midday)
The beach itself is a long stretch of unspoilt
soft sand which has picked up several local awards
while a little up the coast there is the Punta Aderci nature reserve with pedestrian and cycle paths
Surrounded by cliffs it offers panoramic views of the coast as well as a chance to get close up to the local flora and fauna
According to tradition the town was founded by Greek hero Diomedes
and some of the archeological relics found in the town have dated as far back as 1300BC
The old part of the town where Siren is set features several buildings and churches from the 12th to 18th centuries - must sees are the Cattedrale di San Giuseppe
the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore which is supposedly the oldest building in the town
