The new office will serve as a regional base for new build yacht sales, project management and refit services, with a dedicated team of specialists led by Camper & Nicholsons Italy managing director Daniela Duck.

Spending time in old newspapers takes you down some interesting roads
I highly recommend it for everyone suffering from delusions of “good old days.”
I was looking at an edition of The Knoxville News-Sentinel from December 17
was not yet tied up in the war going on across the Atlantic
much of the front page and other coverage was devoted to the Tennessee Volunteers’ pending showdown with the University of Southern California Trojans in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day
One headline read “Neyland Will Test Cafego Tuesday,” meaning coach Robert would be figuring out if his All-American half-back “Bad News” George would be recovered enough from an injury for a stern practice session
It didn’t work out for the Vols in the Rose Bowl
Other items of interest were the release of Gone with the Wind and a Lonsdale Elementary teacher
who’d been fired by Knoxville City Schools for getting married
winning her case in the Tennessee Supreme Court and getting her old job back
But on the very last page was a story of the times they were in
long time building manager of the Holston/Hamilton National Bank (now Holston Condos) was interviewed about the letters he was receiving from his brother Richard from Italy
we had Italian vintners in Knox County on Ball Camp Pike and what is now Lobetti Road
Papers at the time referred to that area that we call Karns as Hardin Valley
probably as more of a topographical reference
the Lobettis and the Gorinis had all come to America
become citizens and were making their own successes here
Richard’s first wife needed to return to Italy to settle her parents’ estate
The Vineyard was sold and both couples returned to retire back in the homeland
settling back in the Tuscany resort town Viareggio on the Mediterranean coast
There was just one very large problem and his name was Benito Mussolini
The Lobettis and Gorinis had missed out (mostly) on all that fascism had to offer while living here
They had barely arrived in Italy and were already planning to wrap it up and head back to the states according to Joseph
Fuel scarcity/prices had him looking to use a motorcycle to get around
Richard informed his brother in a letter that he was too advanced in years to be tootling around a bicycle again
planning to return in spring of 1940 with the security of their American citizenship in tow
The spring of 1940 turned into the spring of 1946
Mussolini was joined at the hip with Adolph Hitler and Italy’s entrée into World War II prevented them leaving until it was over
deprivation and twice were detained as enemy spies
By the time Richard made it back to Knoxville
his first wife had passed and he had remarried one of her other sisters
He did not make it back in time to see his brother Joseph again
He told a reporter not long after getting back that he was looking forward to starting life again
The Lobettis and Gorinis settled into a house downtown on Hill Avenue
and Richard took a job as an elevator operator at General Hospital
He was barely back a year when he died suddenly after an evening of playing cards at home on March 14
I’d love to see a picture of that vineyard

That building is on the next corner south at intersection of Clinch and Gay
It’s now home of the Holston Condos and a restaurant in lobby and downstairs in the vault

Fiorentina U18s were sadly beaten by a solitary goal in the club's 18th Viareggio Cup final against Genoa on Monday
The key moment came in the 28th minute when Viola goalkeeper Brando Dolfi kept out a header from beneath the bar but was unable to stop Alessio Marconi from turning in the loose ball
Genoa produced a solid defensive display in the second half and proved impossible for Fiorentina to break down

saranno costruiti molto probabilmente in Italia
integrando soluzioni all’avanguardia come l’idrogenerazione e altre tecnologie ecologiche già adottate da Sanlorenzo
Rappresenta inoltre un altro passo importante nell’iniziativa Nautor Swan for America

Stiamo esplorando attivamente nuovi mercati e abbiamo progetti entusiasmanti

"I expect a game with a lot of ball possession and great attention to the defensive phase. The prediction is in their favor, given the better position (36 points Camaiore and 37 Pumas, with better defense). The team is complete" says Elia Guidi for Rotellistica. "A 50-50 game - says Bertolucci of Pumas -. We have grown a lot and we want promotion. Of course they are more experienced than us, but we are complete".

As we stepped outside baggage storage
a lunch table surrounded by a family of dining clowns with faces powdered in white and cheeks dotted with blush immediately gave away that Koloris and I were underdressed. Fresh off the train from Genoa in the early afternoon
we proceeded closer to the seaside of this small town called Viareggio in Northern Italy
gathered on the shore in the most diverse selection of costumes
saying we were confused would be an understatement
Quickly coloring our faces with clown-like makeup using lipsticks
we joined the huge crowd as we headed toward the parade in the distance
the only parade I’d been to was the one at Disneyland when I was ten
where the joyous waving of Mickey Mouse with other characters dancing around shaped my definition of all parades
But what I saw in Viareggio was like if the Disneyland parade learned to do theatrical makeup
joined Cirque Du Soleil and got high on shrooms.
Each float rolled down the road led by almost a hundred performers dressed in themed outfits
the performers preceding the Dalí-themed float wore hats topped with disproportionately big eyeballs and dangling hotdog-like tubes
They waddled down the street tossing paper confetti
The sculpted head of Salvador Dalí had his signature upward mustache in blue
with his neck reaching out of a giant golden picture frame
all in front of a background of rolling mechanical eyeballs peeking from the curtains
Under Dalí’s head was a line of clown dancers wearing black ballet tutus
raising and turning their yoga-ball-sized eyeballs in sync
But the float that lingered in my mind was the one that followed
I could hear the performers’ whimsical “Woo…” before I saw a sea of people dressed in off-white gowns
collectively turning around as they cheered
Drawn first to its background music, “Carousel of Life” from the movie “Howl’s Moving Castle” (2004)
I was captivated by a 13-foot tall blue papier-mâché horse that hung wire-flying acrobats dressed in the same gowns
The horse was flanked by rose bushes decorated with giant butterflies
The overwhelming aesthetics of each float overtook my being. Standing in a crowd where everyone pretended to be someone or something else
I didn’t know where the parade ended and the audience began
and where the Carnival ended and reality resumed
After picking out all the confetti tangled in my hair
The Blue Horse float was based on a true story of a mental asylum where the patients created a papier-mâché horse in 1973
Though I hadn’t realized it in the moment
the off-white gowns symbolized straitjackets used to restrain patients
The dancers and acrobats dressed in straitjackets could be interpreted as patients frolicking in their imagined freedom
The float portrayed an illusion that sought to humanize a marginalized population usually tucked away from public view
The rest of the floats all carried allegorical or satirical meanings that commented on political
The Viareggio Carnival was a wake-up call under a dreamy disguise
VBS has both the completely renewed (with many top foreign acquisitions: the Portuguese Jordan Santos and the Brazilians Eudin and Bruno Xavier) first team and the home-made Under 20 team equipped to try to lift new trophies. The Beach Soccer Department of the Figc-Lega Nazionale Dilettanti has meanwhile made official the rosters, dates and locations of all national competitions.
The black and white Under 20 will instead take part in the category championship: Catania, Lamezia, Pisa, Terracina and We Beach Catania will be the opponents of the young players of VBS, included in group B, whose matches will be played from 11 to 15 June in Terracina. The first two of the group will fly to the Final Four in Cirò Marina, on 2 and 3 August.
For both categories the Italian Cup will take place in San Benedetto del Tronto: from 26 to 29 June for the first team, from 2 to 5 July for the Under 20.
The calendars will be revealed during the official presentation of the 2025 season: the “Beach Soccer Day” which will be held in Rome on Friday 16 May.
In fact, in the Italian national team, which is now in the Seychelles for the Beach Soccer World Cup (which starts tomorrow and will continue until the final on May 11), there are 5 beach players from Viareggio: the goalkeeper Leandro Casapieri, the defender Luca Bertacca, the full-backs Gianmarco Genovali and Tommaso Fazzini, the striker Alessandro Remedi. In the ItalBeach there are also 2 “oriundi“ from Viareggio: the goalkeeper Gean Pietro Negrini and the pivot Camillo Augusto.

Italian shipyard Overmarine has launched the first unit in a new line of maxi open yachts known as the Mangusta Maxi Open 132E. In June 2023, the model was sold to a US buyer and existing client of the builder by Jean-Claude Carme of TWW Yachts.
The 39.9-metre model is an evolution of the yard's existing 132 series, with key changes including a restyled profile and a new engine package that promises improved range and reduced fuel consumption. The project was managed by TWW Management and captain Hervé Le Gand.
The GRP yacht has a custom interior by the owner's design studio Iconia with bespoke changes including a modified flybridge, a pool on the foredeck and a "state-of-the-art" sound system. Overmarine's in-house design department has helmed the yacht's signature sporty lines.
Accommodation is for 12 guests across five cabins including an owner's suite with a walk-in wardobe-cum-dressing room and his-and-her bathrooms. The remaining accommodation comprises a VIP suite, two doubles and a twin, plus an additional three cabins for a complement of six crew.
A propulsion package that includes three MTU engines and three waterjets propels the new model to 35 knots, pared back to 30 knots when cruising.
"My clients think highly of Overmarine and enjoy spending time on their Mangusta 108," said Carme. "They weren’t in the market looking to replace but to upgrade. After weighing up many options with different builders, the new Mangusta Maxi Open 132E was a perfect fit for them and their plans for Mediterranean cruising. The fact that she was already a considerable way through construction was an added bonus."
This follows the launch of the third Mangusta 165 REV last month. The 49.9-metre model is the flagship of Mangusta's Maxi Open line.

From the magic of Christmas to the winter sales
here are the reasons to visit the city at this time of year
Vicentini of the Thiene protagonists, with the successes in the Under 11 (5-4 in the final against Sarzana) and in the Under 15s (4-2 in the final against Pumas). Sarzana won the Under 13 (1-0 against the Spanish team Saint Ramon), but a title also speaks Versilia with Pumas who won in the Under 17 (3-2 overAll Stars Viareggio Hockey).
A true organizational triumph for the Viareggio SPV, led by for 35 years Claudio Bicicchi, who expects a lot from the upcoming works at the "Gymnasium".
"The contract for the works has been awarded – he says – renovation, which will include the rink, boiler room, roof, balustrades and locker rooms. We hope they will begin before the summer and be completed before the start of the hockey season."
Italy – Carnevale is a burst of mayhem and color that exorcises the mid-winter blues
the most famous carnival event is in Venice
the Viareggio Carnivale is not far behind and this year shone very brightly with sophisticated Pagan-themed floats
Carnival is one of the festivals of obvious pagan origin that was so extensively celebrated and cherished by communities that the Catholic church quickly co-opted the tradition during the Christianization of Europe
The term “Carnival” originates in the medieval Latin carnem levare or carnelevarium
which means the removal or abstaining from meat
Carnival heralded the 40-day period of austerity of Lent that begins on Ash Wednesday
Roman Catholics and other Christian denominations begin a period of austere reflection that might include fasting and abstinence from certain foods and luxuries in remembrance of Jesus Christ’s fasting in the wilderness and the temptations thrown upon him by Satan before beginning his public ministry
The earliest documented Carnival in Venice was in 1296 CE
The Venetian Senate released a proclamation announcing a public festival the day before the start of Lent
Celebrations began earlier in remembrance of a military victory of the Venetian Republic over the Patriarch of Aquileia in 1162 in an attempt to subjugate Venice under the Holy Roman Empire
in Italy Carnival celebrations reach their peak between Fat Thursday and Fat Tuesday (also called Shrove Tuesday and Mardi Gras)
Venice’s Carnival returned after a COVID hiatus to its former splendor
About an hour west of Firenze on the Tuscan coast
Viareggio’s carnival began in 1873 CE
much later than other celebrant cities like Venice
With giant floats made only of paper-mâché enlivened by animatronics and exceptional costumed participants in a parade that included reliably Pagan themes and social protests
Baron Samedi made an entrance in the Viareggio carnival with Santa Muerte slightly behind
Baron Samedi and Santa Muerte float via Carnevale di Viareggio
Another float about malocchio or the evil eye
portrayed a witch covered in eye-shaped nazar amulets and tarot cards with magical hand symbols and good luck charms like the red chili peppers commonly found in Naples that symbolize victory over enemies
The Viareggio carnival closed with the entry of Bacchus
The huge float was animated with Bacchus reacting to the crowd and the grapes entering the tub for stomping in juice
Carnival celebrations are also becoming expensive for smaller communities
Pro Loco (Latin for “in favor of the place”) are non-profit
grass-roots organizations that seek to enhance economic opportunity in a town or region
organizes the Carnival festivities and submitted two proposals: a “profane” Carnival and a medieval Carnival
But the town found them just too expensive given their circumstances this year
said that funding obligations made the celebration impossible to organize
Not all Carnival celebrations happen before Lent
Vincent and the Grenadines have a celebration in June
Lagos and Nigeria will celebrate in December
Carnival and its Pagan origins have been spread throughout the world
We leave you with some Carnival celebrations the world over

Moving on to the results of the Grosseto Tpra tournament that took place at the Circolo Tennis Grosseto in via Cimabue, the very solid Simona Cinelli confirms her ascent by achieving an excellent second place in pair with Maria D'Avino. A nice third place for the young Irene Benedetti in pair with Sara Bocci. In the men's doubles, a beautiful semifinal for the stubborn Mario Morrone and the very young Matteo Pontrandolfi and the solid Carlo Pasquini in pair with Steli Pugi.
The third unit of the new Mangusta 165 REV series has been launched in Viareggio, Italy. She now joins sisterships N1 and No Rush on the water
The 49.9-metre superyacht was sold in January 2023 by the shipyard's sales manager Nicolò Strocco
She will be delivered to her owner at the end of June and spend her first summer season cruising the Mediterranean
The model is the flagship of Mangusta's Maxi Open line and is characterised by its impressive speed
with four Rolls Royce engines and a Kongsberg Kamewa water-jet propulsion system enabling a maximum speed of 35 knots
The Mangusta 165 REV also distinguishes itself with a "reshaped beach club" that incorporates an additional
Accommodation is across six cabins, including a 92-square-metre master cabin "unparalleled in size in the yacht segment below 499GT". The main saloon has been designed for visual connection with the outdoors, seen best in the floor-to-ceiling glazing and two lateral fold-down balconies.
Meanwhile, an al fresco lounge can be found on the main deck, arranged with sofas, sunbathing areas and a Jacuzzi. The sundeck is fitted with a bar area and further sofa seating. A garage with side access stores a six-metre tender and two Jet Skis.
BOAT International was invited on board the first unit in the series, N1, which was delivered in 2022.
CGC VIAREGGIO: Gomez, Cinquini, Rosi, Mura, Lombardi, Muglia, D'Anna, Raffaelli. Cupisti Coach.
SARZANA: Corona, De Rinaldis, Xavi Rubio, Borsi, Ortiz, Mattugini, Illuzzi, Manrique, Tognacca. Party Coach.
Scorers: 16'44“ pt De Rinaldis, 12'54“ pt Muglia, 2'59“ pt Ortiz; 24'54“ and 19'51“ st Lombardi, 14'56“ st Tognacca.
The start of the second half is sparkling and in black and white. Just 6" and Lombardi scores the 2-2 from his own half of the pitch. After a poisonous diagonal from Muglia, Lombardi is once again the firecracker to excite the PalaBarsacchi with another shot, again from his own half of the pitch, which is worth the overtaking of Viareggio. Gomez bravely blocks Ortiz, but he can do nothing about the young Tognacca who takes advantage of a defensive lapse by Cgc.
There are 10 minutes left, but after so many emotions the pace slows down. Cgc tries but Gomez saves the result on Ortiz with 4' and 51" to go. It ends in a draw and Sarzana will only need to draw to reach the quarter-finals, against Canniccia Motor Club Forte. For this Cgc, however, the feat does not seem impossible at all. "Great performance by the boys, everything is still open", is the hot comment of ds Nicola Palagi.
