About 1,000 holidaymakers forced to leave Baia di Campi
near Vieste on Gargano peninsula in southern Italy
About 1,000 tourists have been evacuated from a camping village in the southern Italian region of Puglia after a vast wildfire broke out in an area of forest close to the complex
The fire started early on Wednesday morning around the bay of San Felice, a wooded-coastal area near the town of Vieste in Gargano, a peninsula in the northern part of Puglia.
The flames were being pushed by strong winds towards the Baia di Campi village, which has the capacity to host 1,200 guests and is located about a kilometre (0.6 miles) from where the fire started.
Firefighters deployed three Canadair water bombers and a helicopter to tackle the blaze. “The situation is critical,” Giuseppe Nobiletti, the mayor of Vieste, told the Italian press.

In recent weeks there have been wildfires across Italy
especially in the south and on the islands of Sardinia and Sicily
The fires have destroyed more than 10,000 hectares (24,700 acres) of land
almost 8,400 hectares during the last month alone
Two firefighters died last week while trying to save a family from their home that was close to a blaze near Matera in Basilicata
have opened an investigation into the cause of the fire
Nobiletti hinted that it could have been started deliberately

NEWPORT – Vieste & Vino Wine Bar will be opening soon at 580 Thames Street
in the location formerly occupied by Lorusso’s Café
Owner Tony Lorusso is moving Vieste from its former location at 515 Thames Street
“He will be in the kitchen combining Italian and Japanese culinary cuisine,” he said
this will be exploring Italian and Asian cuisine at the wine bar.”
The City Council approved Wednesday night a victualing license for the restaurant at the new location and a transfer of the liquor license from 515 Thames Street to the new quarters
The application as it was initially submitted caused some concern from neighbors on McAllister Street who have backyards that back up to the plaza at 580 Thames St.
which is at the intersection with Wellington Avenue
B103 and B104 that all face the Shell gas station at the front and the McAllister Street properties at the back
Lorusso agreed not to use the back parking area for the new businesses
which neighbors Kristine Hendrickson and Linda Letendre appreciated during the public comment period
Lorusso also agreed to keep the access gate from McAllister Street closed
“We have sufficient parking in front of the restaurant and all cars will be entering and exiting from Thames Street,” said attorney David Martland
who represented Lorusso during the hearing
Lorusso had planned to site Vieste – Simply Italian restaurant in Suite B104; Vino Wine Bar & Eatery in Suite B103; Yagi Noodles in Suite B102; and Muffins Xpresso Café in Suite B101
Anticipating that might not fly with the neighbors and council members
Lorusso and Martland modified the proposal and presented a scaled-back plan to the council on Wednesday
Vieste & Vino Wine Bar will occupy three of the units as one licensed establishment
“The City Council requested that we not use unit 101 at this time,” Lorusso said after the meeting
“It was a successful business at 515 Thames St
and will continue to be so at this location,” the attorney said
The capacity of the restaurant is 77 people
but during this time of COVID-19 restrictions including mandated spacing of tables
Not all the speakers during the public comment period expressed concerns
said he is within easy walking distance of Vieste’s new location and supports the plan
“This would be a great improvement for the neighborhood and will revitalize the property,” Grenier told the council
Menu items include Italian classics like Spaghetti & Meatballs
Parmigiana di Pollo and Pollo Picata and the restaurant team hopes to open later this month
“We seek to bring you the authentic taste of Italy with a delightful atmosphere
delicious food and great service,” the website says

The growing trend of adventure-inspired scooters is evidenced by new additions to the market from the likes of Peugeot
who recently debuted the XP400 in the European and Asian markets
Other up and coming brands have been launching their own adventure-ready scooters
with the latest being European-designed and Chinese-owned Keeway
A member of the Qianjiang Group, Keeway shares an umbrella with the likes of QJ Motor
Operating predominantly in the European market
Keeway’s offerings are often beginner-focused

Glendale leaders expected to make money and increase the life of the city's landfill when they launched talks with Vieste Energy nearly a decade ago
The Arizona Court of Appeals ruled in Glendale's favor on Jan. 28, as had a Maricopa County Superior Court judge in 2017.
The appeals court upheld the lower court's decision to award Glendale $280,000 in damages
nearly $2.9 million in attorney’s fees and $898,193.20 in other costs
The city can also recover the costs involved in the latest appeal.
Vieste had set up operations at the landfill, near 115th and Glendale avenues, to turn the city's trash into energy
But the company soon began raising concerns about grass clippings and other yard waste mixed in with the trash.
Lawsuits fly in 2015The company filed a $200 million lawsuit against the city in 2015 and the city countersued
The company argued the yard waste needed to be pre-sorted
but Glendale officials maintained the contract said otherwise
the city’s assistant city attorney and lead in-house council on the case
said the language in the contract was “very clear.”
“The reason we moved forward with this litigation was to protect our citizens’ tax dollars," she said
will hopefully break even from lawsuit-related expenses
Vieste officials did not respond to requests for comment
Glendale had expected to receive $100,000 annually from Vieste for leasing space at the landfill
Glendale expected to deliver 120,000 tons of trash for Vieste to convert to energy and sell
Vieste’s facility has since been removed from the city landfill
City officials have no immediate plans to find another partner to turn trash into energy
Glendale’s director of field operations
said city representatives are taking careful consideration when exploring similar contracts in the future
“We’re always evaluating technology out there,” Woytenko said
“We’re looking for tried and true technology.”
FOR SUBSCRIBERS: Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps and his stepson set up meetings that led to a city contract. He didn't disclose the relationship to the council
will not change the way they approach future business deals and partnerships
“We won’t let one isolated deal change the way we do business,” Mangone said
we are very happy with the result of the appeal and we are excited to have this behind us.”

Dreaming about a visit to the Italian seaside for “whenever”
In addition to the country’s all-star havens like Positano and Portofino
While some have long attracted an international clientele
others are relatively unknown beyond Italy’s borders
All are located along stunning bays or gulfs tucked into the country’s alluring coastline
These often curving stretches of beach present a variety of seaside settings as well as the chance to experience an authentic or rustic take on the dolce vita
travel pros give their insights into a selection of idyllic spots in Puglia
Puglia has become a hot destination in recent years
luring travelers with its rich cultural history and traditions
Some areas draw a far-flung roster of visitors; others
like the seaside spots on the Manfredonia gulf
remain favorites of Italian and European sun-seekers
The beaches: Puglia’s long shoreline offers many striking seascapes, and the Manfredonia gulf contains a number of outstanding ones. Gino Fusco of Pugliapromozione
”one of the most picturesque Italian beaches,” noted for its stunning limestone cliffs and faraglioni
Other stunners that Fusco recommends are Vignanotica
“a beautiful bay surrounded by cliffs and grottoes
reachable only by boat.” Farther up the coast he cites Baia di Campi
pebble beach with caves and an island in front of it.” Easy to reach from the resort town of Vieste is the family-friendly Castello Scialara beach
The long Margherita di Savoia beach on the gulf’s southern coast is also good for children
And there are plenty of seaside resorts to choose from
among them the Pizzomunno Vieste Palace Hotel in Vieste; the Hotel Baia dei Faraglioni
Hotel Baia delle Zagare and the Locanda del Carrubo
The towns to visit: Gino Fusco describes the town of Vieste
like the “marvelous Romanesque-Apulian style cathedral,” there are 44 kilometers of beaches
At the other end of the gulf Fusco recommends
a “favorite for bird watchers” and famous for its salt marshes where pink flamingoes gather
Fusco also says to visit the Monte Sant’Angelo area
with two UNESCO World Heritage Sites—the St
Michael the Archangel Sanctuary and the Gargano National Park
If you’re hoping to travel to Sicily’s Val di Noto
a series of exquisite Baroque cities and towns (on UNESCO’s World Heritage list) in summer
you’ll probably want to know where to head for a seaside excursion to escape the afternoon heat
“The waterfront is only a 10-minute drive from the town of Noto,” says Giuseppe Lenzo
an independent tour manager for Sicily and Italy
And while these Baroque havens have become popular with international travelers
off-the-beaten track destinations,”says Lenzo
who dominate these villages in July and August
you can watch flamingoes feeding in the ponds
is the Isola delle Correnti beach,” says Lenzo
“It’s strip of land between the Ionian and Mediterranean seas
where you can experience their different currents and temperatures—really a discovery!”
Castle Tafuri in Portopalo di Capo Passero
The towns to visit: Lenzo recommends Marzamemi and Portopalo di Capo Passero
“Marzamemi has a quaint historical center and they both have beautiful sea promenades and share a centuries-old history of tuna fishing,” says Lenzo
“Portopalo also features an islet with an ancient fort.” Other bonuses include the weather
With a location near the southeastern tip of the island
“the climate is wonderful year-round,” he says
with “the availability of fresh fish and local Pachino cherry tomatoes.”

Francesco Montillo, founder of Lazy Italian Culinary Adventures
which specializes in food-centric tours in Italy
says when she was growing up in a town near the gulf of Squillace
its beaches were primarily visited by local residents
who were later joined by people from other parts of Calabria and Calabrese returning home from the north for summer holidays
Because of the beaches’ popularity during high season she recommends coming early in the morning
The beaches: Montillo says the beaches in Caminia
Copanello and Pietragrande are among the most beautiful along the Squillace gulf
the coastline is full of caves and archaeological remains,” she explains
Snorkeling and night diving are popular on this beach
They can be reached by swimming or paddle boarding.”
Montillo likes Copanello for its crystal-like water
which is “great for swimming and snorkeling.” Since the area is a fishing haven
you’re likely to find lots of fishermen,” she says
“It’s very common to just sit in the water and have fish come at your feet.”
Pietragrande is probably the most famous of the these seaside spots
and attracts lots of visitors during July and August
The water is turquoise and stunning,” she adds
(During peak season Montillo says she also might head to the beaches at Soverato and Squillace in order to beat the crowds.)
The towns to visit: “Copanello and especially Caminia,” says Montillo
beautiful homes and are [within] exceptionally easy walking distance to the beach
The views are just stunning.” Summer rentals go quickly in these locations
squid and anchovies are all wonderful options,” says Montillo
for which the area is known.” Montillo suggests trying the region’s famous “‘Nduja

the silent revolution of electric motorcycles has just demonstrated its competitiveness again with the impressive feats of the Honda Montesa RTL Electric
Yamaha has launched a limited edition of its popular Ténéré 700 that is making motorcyclists around the world's mouth water
there is one significant detail: this special..
It was a deal that was supposed to turn Glendale’s trash into revenue for the city and its partner Vieste Energy through recycling and converting garbage to electricity
the city’s October 2012 agreement with Vieste has only generated a flurry of legal filings
Vieste’s $30 million recycling facility sits idle near the city landfill at 115th and Glendale avenues
The trash war of words started in February with Chicago-based Vieste filing a claim against Glendale seeking $200 million in damages
Glendale countered in April with a lawsuit in Maricopa County Superior Court seeking to resolve a key question in its 30-year contract with Vieste: Can the city include grass
brush and other yard waste with the household trash it delivers to Vieste from its 52,000 residential customers
“We think the agreement is pretty clear and Vieste is trying to change the rules of the game,” said Nancy Mangone
Vieste has argued the contract does not allow the city to deliver yard waste until an energy plant is built at a cost of up to $100 million
The outcome of the litigation has serious implications for what happens with 120 tons of Glendale trash every year
whether more waste can be recycled or converted to energy and whether local taxpayers end up paying millions of dollars for something that was supposed to generate about $560,000 annually for the city without any capital costs
An arbitrator in March ruled in favor of Vieste
saying that yard waste was unacceptable for the first phase of Vieste’s recycling facility
Glendale filed suit asking a judge to review the entire contract on that issue
and later demanded that Vieste pay its $10,000 monthly lease payments for previous months or the city would consider terminating the agreement
But the city and Vieste agreed to negotiate and Glendale said it would hold off on any action to terminate the agreement and the lease until Oct
Vieste invested $2.5 million in its recycling plant and obtained about $29 million in bond financing to build the facility
Vieste said it could be forced into bankruptcy
lose its recycling facility and default with bondholders
alleged that the Vieste site appears to be contaminated with oil
diesel fuel or gasoline that must be cleaned up by Vieste
Recycling and reuse of waste is a growing concern in the state and is one area of emphasis for Pollution Prevention Week
announced for this week by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality
has weekly curbside trash and recycling collection in separate 90-gallon bins
along with monthly pickups of bulk items and yard waste
But some Glendale residents put yard waste into the regular trash bins
which is common mistake in other cities as well
as much as 30 percent of its trash is yard waste
project manager of the Regional Green Organics Project that involves Arizona State University
Project participants are looking at ways to sort and use yard waste for mulch or waste-to-energy plants
Scottsdale has to keep the yard-waste volume below 20 percent in its recycling materials or it would have to pay a fine to its recycling contractor
Mesa already has a yard-waste collection program for single-family homes
cans and bottles from residents’ recycling bins
Close to 15,000 tons of recyclable material was sent to the city’s Materials Recovery Facility this past fiscal year
Vieste wants to capture recyclable materials that residents dispose of in regular trash bins and sell the recovered materials
But the company said in its court filing that its sorting equipment does not work properly if yard waste is in the trash
said Glendale could collect yard waste in a separate container
to eliminate that organic waste from the regular trash
Mangone said that still would not ensure that yard waste would not end up in the regular trash containers
“Even if a town or city has a third curbside trash can for ‘green’ wastes
some amount of yard waste is normally contained in (regular household trash)
as customers either don’t attempt to segregate it out or are mistaken in the definition of ‘green’ waste and throw it in with their regular household trash,” she said
Glendale estimates it would take $5 million to $7 million in startup costs for the city and up to $1.15 million annually to remove the yard waste before delivering it to Vieste
Glendale is required to deliver at least 120,000 tons of municipal waste annually
Vieste and Glendale estimated that Vieste would remove about 26,000 tons of recyclable materials from the regular trash annually
That would extend the lifespan of the landfill by about three years
Vieste is required to pay the city $100,000 annually to lease six acres for its recycling facility and Glendale is guaranteed a recycling management fee of $476,000
Vieste rejected more than 300 loads of trash from Glendale garbage trucks delivered to Vieste’s recycling facility because the loads included yard waste
Completion of the energy facility would solve the problem with the yard waste
But it would cost $75 million to $100 million to build
“It seems unlikely that the energy plant remains a viable option
given the actions of the city of Glendale,” he said
adding that it would take about three years to get a Maricopa County air-quality permit and build the plant
Vieste has not operated a recycling facility or an energy plant but the technology has been used in North America to convert trash to energy through a process known as gasification
gasification converts trash into a gas through a chemical reaction

Vieste had intended to start with the energy plant but ran into delays in getting an agreement with entities that wished purchase power from its energy plant
nestled among the lush vegetation typical of the Gargano
and according to tradition has been the scene of several apparitions of the saint
The shrine is arranged on several levels with a Romanesque-style facade and the unmistakable bell tower
what makes the visit special is the large underground cave accessed by a staircase carved into the rock and containing numerous masterpieces
There is no better place to understand the wealth of Gargano history and traditions than the Monte Sant’Angelo Civic Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions
This large exhibition space is dedicated to the memory of local scholar Giovanni Tancredi and is housed in the 14th-century convent of San Francesco
Walking through the three levels of the museum
the traveler will have the opportunity to touch some of the typical elements of this territory and understand how it has been shaped by man over the centuries thanks to the numerous artifacts that tell of agricultural and pastoral civilization
but also testify to the habits of ancient pilgrims or trades that have been lost
At the northernmost point of the Gargano lies one of its brightest jewels
Peschici is a seaside village perched on a rocky outcrop whose typical white houses overlook the Adriatic Sea
Its historic center rises within the perimeter of the ancient medieval walls
and is dominated by its ancient castle built by the Normans between the 10th and 11th centuries overlooking the sea
Strolling through narrow alleys and small squares surrounded by the typical white houses on whose walls stand out many small details painted in pastel colors
one comes across many noteworthy monuments that hold ancient treasures including the Abbey of Calena
the Church of Purgatory and the Church of St
Siponto is the initial nucleus of present-day Manfredonia
but it was above all an important seaport and one of the most active Roman colonies in the entire region even though its history goes back much further
Today a large archaeological area can be visited here that testifies to the importance Siponto achieved over the centuries before
the swamping of the harbor and two violent earthquakes drove the inhabitants to move to the new town
the vestiges of this great past are still clearly visible and are represented by the cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore
It is to a square building completely rearranged in the 13th century and one of the greatest examples of Romanesque in Apulia
At its side are the remains of an early Christian basilica with three naves and a mosaic floor
since 2016 has been the work Where Art Reconstructs Time
an installation by Edoardo Tresoldi that reconstructs the ancient early Christian temple
It is an oasis of peace and tranquility where it is possible to discover the area at a slow pace
following the many itineraries that allow you to admire up close the many wonders hidden among the valleys and slopes
among ancient farms and fairy-tale villages
the cathedral of Vieste is located at the highest part of the ancient medieval town and is certainly one of its best-known symbols
Considered one of the most shining examples of the Apulian Romanesque style
its construction dates back to the second half of the 11th century although it has since undergone numerous modifications as evidenced by the splendid bell tower rebuilt in a purely Baroque style in the late 1700s
There are many things to see inside including the statue of the Madonna of Santa Maria di Merino
a beautiful wooden sculpture from the 1300s that
was found by some sailors on the beach at Vieste
Vieste’s Swabian castle almost seems to rise straight out of the sea with its massive bulk overhanging the cliff
Like an authentic arrowhead this ancient structure has been an impregnable stronghold of the territory’s defense for centuries
Still today the castle is owned by the navy and for this reason it is opened to the public only on rare occasions
it nevertheless represents one of the most scenic places both from which to admire the panorama of the coast and to photograph from afar
Particularly striking is how the castle dominates Vieste’s main beach
there is also the Pizzomunno a solitary monolith considered the symbol of the town
These are some of the ingredients that make a visit to the small village of Mattinata
Here you are sure to find some of the most scenic views of the entire Gargano
such as those offered by the bay of Mergoli
off the coast of which striking stacks emerge from the turquoise waters
or the bay of the Zagare with its pristine sand framed by pine and lemon trees
the town of Mattinata itself that probably deserves the most attention for how it has managed to keep itself intact and tied to the traditions of the land
The Junno district is the most characteristic place thanks to the presence of the pajare
typical buildings with very white facades and built side by side leaving no space between them
The largest coastal lake in Italy and the seventh largest in the whole boot
it is about 10 kilometers long and spreads for 7 within the Gargano promontory while it is divided from the sea only by a very thin strip of land
Lake Varano has been central to the life of this entire part of the region and still represents a very important natural oasis
coots and snipes are just a few of the many species of birds that populate this wonderful place not to mention the very rich vegetation that surrounds it
Surrounded by hornbeams and ash trees, the sanctuary of St. Matthew
is located a few kilometers from San Marco in Lamis and is one of the most important buildings of worship in the Gargano
With a massive shape that almost recalls that of a medieval fortress
it still retains evident traces of the passage of pilgrims who for centuries found refreshment and shelter here along the road that led them to the cave of the Archangel Michael at Monte Sant’Angelo
is the center of a fervent cultural life thanks to the opening of a large library and museum that tell its story and with it that of the entire territory

let’s revisit the aspects we liked about the scooter and things we thought could have been better
The Vieste 300 is not a big scooter considering its displacement but it has the right kind of cuts
and contours to boast oodles of road presence
The front looks sporty and menacing with a small yet angular twin-pod headlamp
This is surrounded by a wide and muscular apron which adjoins the dual-tone centre spine
culminating into a sculpted and sharp tail section
we attracted quite a lot of attention from the onlookers on the road
It churns out 18.4bhp at 6,500rpm and 22Nm of torque at 6,000rpm
the engine performs exactly how the numbers suggest
It’s profoundly quick off the line and the build-up of pace is equally brisk — almost until 100-110kmph
Even while cruising on the highway at around 80-90kmph
the engine feels unrestrained and allows you to execute quick overtakes
we could ride it up to a maximum speed of 125kmph
The Vieste 300 weighs 147kg (kerb) which isn’t light for a scooter
the weight is seamlessly masked by its impressive agility
The scooter feels pretty light on its feet while zipping your way through tight gaps in traffic
It’s a similar story around corners where it’s reasonably easy to lean and sticks to the desired line
It’s only when you take on the long sweeping corners at high speeds that you feel the scooter getting slightly unstable
the Vieste 300 boasts a decently large fuel tank of 12-litre
Although it’s not very generous in terms of fuel efficiency
the larger capacity of the tank means lesser fuel stops and an impressive riding range of nearly 354km
While the stiff suspension setup of the scooter helps with its sharp handling
it doesn’t deliver a pleasant experience when the road surface gets rough
you feel almost every surface imperfection
the firm rear springs tend to throw you off the seat
the only way to tackle low-amplitude undulations is to ride fast through them which lessens the intensity of the shock
The Keeway Vieste 300 is really close to being a maxi-scooter considering its imposing styling and highway-centric engine performance
Factor in the nimble handling and it comes across as a fun-to-ride offering
the scooters of this genre need to be several notches higher in terms of ride comfort and storage space — areas where the Vieste lags
the list of features could have been way more enticing

has stepped foot in India with its first three offerings - K-Light 250V
The brand will co-exist with its sibling brand
it’s a thorough cruiser offering with fairly large and eye-catching proportions
You get a round LED headlight with bulb indicators
The latter are mounted onto a wide one-piece handlebar
Keeway has plonked a 249cc air-cooled V-twin motor that's tuned to belt out 18.7bhp and 19Nm
This makes the K-Light 250V the only twin-cylinder cruiser on sale in India
As for the Vieste 300 and the Sixties 300i
both the scooters use the same 278.2cc liquid-cooled engine that dishes out 18.7bhp and 22Nm
the two are poles apart on the styling front.
The Vieste 300 is a Maxi scooter with sharp and edgy bodywork
It gets a split LED headlight that sits below a smoked windscreen
It features a fully digital console and keyless operation
the Sixties 300i gets a flowing and fairly curvy bodywork
the retro sibling doesn’t get the keyless function feature.
The official asking price will be revealed in a week’s time
We expect Keeway to price the three offerings somewhere between Rs 2.25 - 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom
Keeway has commenced online bookings for all three models on its official website for a token amount of Rs 10,000

- Based on the same platform as Vieste 300
The platform on which the XDV is based is the same as the standard Vieste 300
the visuals are not even close to being similar
the Vieste 300 XDV boasts a rugged and muscular bodywork
The wide and chunky front apron sports a pointed nose flanked by LED lights on both sides and crowned by a tall windscreen and a motorcycle-like exposed handlebar
there are footrest provisions along with a stepped
single-piece seat accompanied by chunky grab rails
Complementing its radical styling are multiple modern features like full-LED lighting and a large LCD console with a USB charging port.
the latter is suspended by more premium upside-down forks up front and dual springs at the rear
The suspension travel stands at 90mm and 65mm at the front and back
there’s a single petal-type disc at both ends with J.Juan callipers
single-cylinder engine that produces 18.4bhp and 22Nm and comes mated to a CVT transmission.
Although the arrival of the XDV to the Indian shores is unlikely as of now, Keeway does sell the Vieste 300 and Sixties 300i in our country with prices starting from Rs 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom
Log InADKeeway Vieste 300: Road Test Review Anuj Mishra
Keeway has partnered with Adishwar Auto Ride India
Keeway has started its India innings with three products, one of which you can see in these pictures. This is the Vieste 300 and its design and displacement suggest that it’s a true-blue maxi-scooter
it needs to be proficient on many fronts like high-speed stability
does the Vieste 300 have all that’s needed to be a quintessential maxi-scooter
The Vieste 300 is one handsome-looking thing
I found myself staring at its sharp lines and neat contours
While it exudes the relaxed demeanour of a typical maxi-scooter
there’s no dearth of sporty elements either
looks aggressive with a pair of small yet imposing headlamps which are nestled within a wide and muscular apron crowned by a tall windscreen
The mid-section is attractively busy with a centre spine flanked by multi-coloured panels and a long footrest while the tail section seamlessly blends with the overall design
The build quality and fit and finish are as pleasant as its aesthetics
It’s put together really well and we couldn’t spot any uneven panel gaps
We didn’t hear any strange noises emanating from the scooter
the switchgear could do with better tactility and the boot opening button needs to be much more sensitive to your inputs – it requires a very hard press to operate
Straddling the Vieste isn’t as easy as a conventional scooter
You either have to swing your leg over the spine or the seat
the Vieste feels quite easy to lift off the stand and push around
although its 147kg (kerb) weight suggests otherwise
The riding posture it offers felt nice and comfortable initially
You sit upright holding the pulled-back handlebar
with your feet outstretched on the long footboard
I realized I couldn’t move back because of the tiny hump in the middle of the seat
in a more traditional scooter-like riding stance
your heels are angled outwards due to the bulk at the rear section of the centre spine
had the handlebar been placed higher and farther
it would have made for a more relaxed maxi-scooter-like riding position
especially for someone as tall as me at 5’11’’
the ergonomics of the Vieste don’t pose as big a problem as its suspension
It gets telescopic forks up front and dual shock absorbers at the back and this is a rather stiffly sprung setup
Every time you go over a set of small rumblers
the Vieste bounces and transfers the shock to your back
And the slower you try to cross these hurdles
I went through a closely-spaced set of three rumblers at 15-20kmph and the scooter relentlessly bounced its way
I tried taking the same course at nearly 35kmph and the shock wasn’t as intense
being fast doesn’t work while going over high-amplitude
rounded bumps as you get thrown off the seat due to the fast rebound
the Vieste felt quite planted on the highway even at speeds of about 80-90kmph and minor undulations never made it unstable
four-valve engine which is mated to a CVT gearbox via a belt-drive system
This unit churns out 18.4bhp at 6,500rpm and 22Nm of torque at 6,000rpm
the motor performs as impressively as these numbers suggest
it settles into a vibey idle that keeps shaking the mirror and handlebar until you get going
the Vieste darts ahead with vigour and urgency
the meat of performance truly lies between 30-70kmph which makes it a very sprightly
The Vieste impresses on the highway as well
Cruising down a wide open road at 80-90kmph feels like a cakewalk and overtaking from those speeds isn’t a task either
The beauty of this motor is that it feels smooth and vibe-free throughout
Things would have been more likeable if the throttle was a little lighter and quicker
147kg (kerb) isn’t light for a scooter but the Vieste feels nimble and agile to manoeuvre
Flicking it through gaps in traffic is a quick affair
mainly due to the prompt steering response
You just need to be a bit wary of the long 1,390mm wheelbase
And when you’re taking on a set of twisties
it goes through the tighter corners with good stability and precision
come a long sweeping bend and you try attacking it fast and the Vieste feels odd and unstable
The front and rear feel a bit disconnected and even small surface imperfection unsettles it
Adding to the gripe is the lack of grip from the tyres
While these Timsun rubbers feel decent on dry tarmac
they lack wet grip severely and keep sliding around through corners even at minimal lean angles
it’s advisable to be sane while riding it in the rain
the scooter had barely done 400km when I received it and the front had already faded
The lever had no feel and the needed bite came in too late
Maybe it was an issue with this particular unit
worked extremely well with impressive bite and adequate progression
The Vieste 300 gets a keyless ignition system which is a treat to use
and the rotary switch below the handlebar does the job of turning on the engine and locking the handlebar
Below this switch are two buttons for operating the boot and fuel lid
The latter is placed on the centre spine which makes fueling the scooter quite convenient
it’s not as useful as you expect of a maxi-scooter
there isn’t enough depth to store a full-blown half-face helmet
Only the locally-made open-face lids with a smaller shell and visor can be stuffed in
There’s a glove box at the front and that too has a very small opening – you can slide in your smartphone
The instrument cluster is a wide motorcycle-like semi-digital unit
it packs some unnecessary data like an analogue tachometer
and two speedometers – one analogue and one digital
there’s no Bluetooth connectivity or navigation
things that are available in much cheaper scooters these days
multiple riding modes would have been welcome
especially by newer riders who could do with a mode offering dialled-down engine performance
And since maxi-scooters are also used for touring
an option to lift the windscreen would have made sense
the windscreen offers close to no protection from wind buffeting at high speeds
In our real-world mileage test, the Vieste 300 returned an average of 29.5kmpl which is respectable considering its displacement and performance
That translates to a full-tank range of 354km
The Keeway Vieste 300 has its good and bad traits
with the latter being more conspicuous than the former
The positives include gallops of road presence
where it could improve is in terms of tyres
the more serious shortcomings are the stiff ride quality and lack of storage space
And these are factors which a premium maxi-scooter scooter buyer wouldn’t or shouldn’t compromise on
Especially someone who is shelling out around Rs 3.80 lakh (on-road
which in itself is an exorbitant price tag
particularly for a product as unfinished as this
Both the Keeway Vieste 300 and the Sixties 300i are powered by a 278.2cc single-cylinder
4-valve engine that produces a maximum power of 18.7hp and 22Nm of peak torque

Vieste between sport and tourism: the words of the Mayor Giuseppe Nobiletti
It is called the Pearl of the Gargano and it is the queen of the Apulian holidays. Vieste will be the Municipality leader together with Peschici of the exciting adventure of the WMOC 2022 that the world orienteering community is preparing to experience in Gargano from the 8th to the 16th of July. We talked about this with its Mayor Giuseppe Nobiletti.
Mayor, how important is tourism for a municipality like Vieste?
What value does sports tourism have for you?
Why did Vieste choose to support WMOC 2022?
What can Vieste offer to those who choose to visit it?
“Vieste offers beaches, landscape, hinterland, traditions, customs, food, and wine with a consistency that makes it ultra-competitive in the panorama of the tourist offer of that magnificent international tourist product called ‘La Magnifica Italia’. ‘We are in Puglia’ is making a name for itself inside this”.
Comment on your historic center that will host the WMOC Sprint races.
Finally, what message do you want to send to the 3 thousand orienteers who will reach the Gargano?
“Explore our beauties. They are waiting for nothing but to be admired!”

An Italian town is offering to pay people up to €2,000 (£1,800) to move there
has made the offer in the hope of reversing the town’s declining population
Gatta told CNN Travel that he wants to bring numbers back up to the 8,000 of the 1990s
when the town was known as “Little Naples”
The declining population of Italy’s borghi – historical small towns – has been a matter of national concern for decades
Many people emigrated in the post-war years
economic squeeze and lack of opportunities has seen an exodus from the countryside to the cities
The albergo diffuso model – in which abandoned apartments are turned into a “scattered hotel” is also making headway
providing income for the towns as well as jobs for the locals
which has seen mass emigration over the past few decades
And in nearby Calabria, refugees are breathing new life into Riace
a town that had been all but abandoned by locals
Author Roberto Saviano said in a recent interview with Vanity Fair Italy that refugees are the future for Italy’s economy
Gatta, however, seems in it for the longhaul. Six families have already moved from Northern Italy, with another five in the process of relocating, he told CNN.
Interested in the dolce vita? You’ll need to commit to being a permanent resident, rent a house in the town, and earn more than €7,500 per year. If you meet the requirements, the council will pay €800 for singles and €1,200 for couples. Families of up to five receive over €2,000. Tax credits on council bills and childcare are also available.

Do you really need a 300cc scooter in your garage
we spent a couple of days with Hungarian marque Keeway's all-new Sixties 300i & Vieste 300 scooters
By Dhruv Paliwal
Dhruv spends a couple of days with the Sixties 300i & Vieste 300 to find out the answer
Scooters have been one of the primary modes of transportation for most Indian families since one can remember
No matter how much you love the feel of riding a motorcycle
you just can’t beat the practicality of a scooter
And the fact that it can be easily ridden by every member of a family is an added advantage
The only downside to a scooter is that it’s a little too vanilla
which is looking to shake things up a little
scooters barely crossed the 150cc mark in terms of engine displacement
but Keeway has almost doubled that figure with its two 278cc liquid-cooled four-valve single-cylinder petrol engine scooters
their design is definitely going to wow you
let’s find out if these two new Keeway scooters will work in the Indian setting
The first thing that you notice about these Keeway scooters is their design. Both the Sixties 300i and Vieste 300 look poles apart
their styling should please almost everyone
The Sixties 300i is a full-on retro scooter and has a ‘Lambretta’ vibe going for it
The test unit we rode was finished in white
and with minimal lines on the body and a two-piece seat
I found it hard to take my eyes away from it
The best part about the whole scooter – at least for me – were the exhaust vents located towards the rear
and while they might or might not do a whole lot to increase the cooling of the engine
the Sixties 300i looks like a proper old-school scooter and a big one at that
the Vieste 300 could almost pass off for a motorcycle
the Vieste 300 is full of angular design bits and sharp lines
While the oldies may not find it attractive at first
the young crowd will definitely be taken by it
both scooters have enough oomph to attract eyeballs but of different generations
A good design is definitely an advantage, but what about comfort? Now, the Sixties 300i has a dual seat, and honestly, it looks like a throne compared to other scooters on the market. The cushioning is soft but not so soft as to make you uncomfortable after 10 minutes of riding. Keeway seems to have found the right balance in this regard
the Sixties 300i ensures that your legs and hands make right angles
meaning that you sit in a relaxed position all the time
The great thing about the Sixties 300i is that it has a huge floorboard area
which means that your feet are always comfortably positioned
our magazine designer/photographer Parvesh
found the Sixties 300i to be quite accommodating
his impression of the Vieste 300 wasn’t as flattering
The maxi-scooter-like design means that most of the floorboard is taken up by a central tunnel
even I didn’t find the foot space down there to be adequate enough
one-third of my feet were always hanging out of the floorboard area – not a very reassuring feeling
The handlebar though falls to hand quite easily
Both the Sixties 300i and Vieste 300 are good handlers
That’s because they are both set up on the stiffer side and feel tight when flinging from side to side
the Sixties 300i is not just a traditional-looking scooter
Both the front and rear tyres have the same diameter
which means that it has a limit to the extent you can fling it
which means staggered tyre sizes – so fling it as much as you wish (or dare)
It truly offers that motorcycle-like handling
The braking setup of both scooters deserves a special mention here – both scooters have disc brakes on both ends and a superbly calibrated ABS
which means that braking performance is reassuring and always on point
Grunt is one thing that both scooters pack in abundance
The powertrain is common between the two scooters
and given that the difference between their kerb weights is just 1kg
and 100km/h also doesn’t take long to show up on the speedo
although even if you are cruising at 100km/h
you have enough juice left in reserve to pull off an overtake
let’s go back to the south of 80km/h because most scooters rarely cross that mark
And we are talking about the good (internal combustion engine) kind
The one complaint that I have with both scooters is that the throttle travel is excessively long
you have to reposition your hand to cover the brakes
is the only downside of hustling these two scooters
now we have come to the part where I have to be objective about things
a 300cc scooter is never going to be a case of money well spent
it will be because the good things in life are never cheap
The bigger problem is justifying the price tag
I can live with spending extra for what I like
but ₹2.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for either one of them is a little too much
makes up by offering bits like heated grips
a tachometer and switch-operated fuel cap and under-seat storage
The only thing that the Sixties 300i is counting on to save its bacon is its good looks
then any of these two would be a great pick

Hungarian two-wheeler manufacturer, Keeway, unveiled its first three offerings for the Indian market yesterday. Of the two scooters and one cruiser motorcycle
the Vieste 300 has caught quite some attention
Off the bat, the Vieste 300’s design is quite eye-catching. It dons a proper maxi-scooter attire and will be the second (read affordable) maxi-scooter option in the Indian market after the Yamaha Aerox 155
The Vieste 300 gets a sharp split LED headlight integrated into the aerodynamic front apron
It’s topped by a smoked windscreen with the number plate mounts on it.
the Vieste 300’s spine takes up majority of the footboard
The fuel tank too is integrated into it with the fuel tank and seat opening switches located separately.
Unlike any other scooter available in the market currently
the Keeway Vieste 300 is powered by a liquid-cooled 278.2cc single-cylinder motor
That’s almost 4bhp more than the Aerox’s 155cc liquid-cooled motor with VVA
Do consider the notable size difference though.
Keeway has equipped the Vieste 300 with LED illumination and a fully-digital console flanked by two analog dials for the speedometer and the tachometer
The Vieste 300 gets keyless operation and you can lock/unlock the scooter with a centrally mounted dial on the apron
You also get a cubby holder with a USB charging port in it.
Keeway has suspended the Vieste 300 on telescopic front forks and dual rear springs
Its braking hardware comprises a 240mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS
The Vieste 300 rides on 13-inch wheels wrapped in a 110/70 front tyre and a 130/70 rear tyre
It gets a commendable 12-litre fuel tank.
While Keeway will reveal the official asking price for all of its offerings in a few days
we expect the Vieste 300 to cost around Rs 2.25 to Rs 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)
Bookings for the Hungarian scooter have commenced on Keeway India’s official website for a token amount of Rs 10,000
Test rides will begin on 26 May followed by the deliveries in early June

The Keeway Vieste 300 is a proper maxi-scooter
It dons muscular bodywork and gets a spine in between that integrates the fuel tank near your feet
The fascia and the side panels give it a very sporty and enticing look.
Even the build quality is up to the mark and we didn’t detect any uneven panel gaps
the fuel tank and boot opening buttons could use more tactility as we had to press very hard to open those.
the Keeway Vieste 300 offers a handful of goodies
you get a semi-digital analogue cluster which displays ample data and keyless operation as well
You’ll have to use the centrally mounted dial to lock/unlock
turn on the ignition and access the boot and fuel tank of the scooter.
liquid-cooled motor that belts out 18.4bhp and 22Nm
The mirror and the handlebar shake while idling but everything settles once the scooter gets going
The Vieste 300 is fairly quick off-the-line and is in its element from 30-70kmph.
the Vieste 300’s performance is impressive
It approaches and stays at triple-digit speeds with ease and overtakes at high speeds in a similar manner.
the Vieste 300 feels easy to flick around and handles promptly
Filtering through the traffic is a bit cumbersome because of its long wheelbase
the scooter is stable at high speeds.
The front brake lever feel was bare minimum and the bite had faded on the scooter we tested
The Vieste 300 gets a USD front fork and dual rear springs
The latter is quite stiff and sends jolts to your back when the scooter goes over potholes
But what about its overall usability, riding comfort, fuel economy, grip and value for money? Should you buy it or not? Read our detailed road test review of the Keeway Vieste 300 to get your answer.

Last week, Keeway announced the pricing of its two scooters: Vieste 300 and Sixties 300i
Both the models are priced at Rs 2.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)
Now the said pricing is quite high and leaves you with some notable options in the motorcycle market
Let’s take a look at all the alternatives for the Hungarian maxi-scooter
Of the top five alternatives to the Keeway Vieste 300, the first one is Honda CB300R. Priced at Rs 2,77,291 (ex-showroom Delhi), the CB300R is a neo-retro offering from the Japanese brand
It packs a 286cc BS6 motor that dishes out 31.1 bhp and 27.5 Nm
It weighs just 146kg and gets a fuel tank of 9.7-litres
the CB300R packs LED illumination and dual-channel ABS.
Next up, you also have the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 as an alternative for the Keeway Vieste 300. It retails at Rs 2,88,175 (ex-showroom Delhi) and is one of the most affordable middle-weight motorcycles currently on sale in India. You get a 648cc twin-cylinder motor that belts out 47bhp and 52Nm. The Interceptor 650 gets a proper old-school design with a round headlight and curvy body panels
you get ABS and a digital inset with twin analog pods.
the Sixties 300i too is available as an option
It costs the same as the Vieste 300 (Rs 2.99 lakh) and packs the same motor too – 278.2cc
liquid-cooled motor developing 18.7bhp and 22Nm
a semi-digital instrument cluster and dual-channel ABS
the Sixties dons a proper retro bodywork with long and curvy panels.
The BMW G 310 GS too fits in the mix with an asking price of Rs 3,04,873 (ex-showroom Delhi). The Bavarian ADV gets off-road credentials like the front beak, knobby tyres, and upright stance. It draws power from the 313cc single-cylinder mill with the output rated at 33.52 bhp and 28 Nm. With the component on offer, the G 310 GS not only makes for a good off-roader but also a commendable tourer.
you can also consider the 2022 KTM RC 390 as a viable option
The Austrian supersport costs Rs 3,14,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and has received a host of upgrades in its latest iteration
revised ergonomics and more features as well
the 2022 model is a major upgrade from its previous generation.
