During the novel Coronavirus emergency
operations and workflows in all Italian hospitals were disrupted
Fujifilm wanted to ensure its cutting-edge tools were available to reduce the impact caused by the rapid spread of COVID-19 and to give a timely response to the spread of the pandemic
All images that artificial intelligence identified as suspected COVID-19 were subjected to processing by the radiologist in a faster and more urgent manner
In November 2019, a collaboration agreement between ASST of Vimercate and Fujifilm was signed with a view to exploring new approaches to the treatment of patients, with benefits both to the clinical services and to healthcare operators. “REiLI's support,” says Marcello Intotero
Head of Radiology Structure and Diagnostic Services Department
“has allowed our radiologists to report examinations with greater speed and efficiency
their workloads have not particularly increased
as other causes for non-urgent examinations were limited to avoid an excess flow of patients
This new technology has given great support to the workflow; all images that artificial intelligence identified as suspected COVID-19 were subjected to processing by the radiologist in a faster and more urgent manner than other images which
the system analyzed as corresponding to a healthy lung.”
REiLI’s processing of CT scans and chest x-rays provides important support for radiologists
quantitative and objective assessment of the various zones of the lungs
is the best example of applying the new AI technology
in that it is a quick and simple examination which provides a large amount of useful information for evaluating the presence of the pulmonary parenchymal consolidation caused by the virus
The data obtained from artificial intelligence does not replace the molecular diagnoses performed using the nasopharyngeal swab (RT-PCR) and
nor does it replace the precious analyses and diagnoses performed by the radiologist
does provide support in reporting on daily examinations conducted to monitor and study the development of the disease
and constitute a second opinion for the operators
Fujifilm’s Artificial Intelligence platform
is integrated with the Lunit Insight CXR module for the analysis and detection of the main types of pulmonary disease (nodules
the Lunit Insight CXR3 module has been updated to provide support in specifically identifying the pulmonary parenchymal consolidation caused by the virus
REiLI has been installed at ASST Vimercate in just two weeks
by installing a parallel PACS to avoid interrupting the daily workflow
REiLI was already operating and during its first five days it had worked on more than 600 images
more than 900 positive cases of COVID-19 were found
with an average of 80 chest x-rays per day
allowing precise and punctual data collection
more than 80 chest x-rays of inpatients and first-aid patients have been analysed each day at the Vimercate Hospital," explains Giovanni Delgrossi
“If no priority is set for the examinations to be reported
it may take hours to identify a particular x-ray which could require prompt
we need to react and act even more quickly.”
“Alternative Intelligence is a new operating concept projected towards collaborative intelligence between machine and man,” explains Nicola Bilibio
Clinical Specialist Medical Informatics (CSE) Fujifilm Europe GmbH
“This is a fundamental tool for optimizing the workflow and for screening patients from COVID-19
we promptly made our most advanced technologies available to make our concrete contribution to the crisis.”
Medical imaging is critical across many fields of healthcare – but accessing it in remote or rural locations can be a struggle
resulting in missed appointments or delayed diagnoses
Fujifilm aims to become an entity that can contribute to the advancement of human health by supporting the ongoing transformation in the healthcare industry – as a “One-Stop” solution partner
Synapse VNA is the true-VNA application for the content management of images and medical information at the enterprise level; it is an open storage solution

MUST in Vimercate is dedicating an exhibition to the figure of Bruno Munari (Milan
Art to the Future is a selection of about fifty works from private Italian and foreign collections
highlighting his extraordinary importance in the international art scene and his role as a great precursor of trends and research
curated by Simona Bartolena and with the scientific contribution of Luca Zaffarano
has the collaboration of Armando Fettolini and Ponte 43.From futurism to useless machines
from concrete abstraction to painting with light
there is no shortage of famous examples of Munari’s interaction with the world of communication
with insights into the artist’s main areas of reflection: from dynamism to the study of perception
from the transformation of the idea of painting to the use of technology
from the concept of “concrete art” to experimentation with new materials
The exhibition begins with the section The Futurist Legacy
Bruno Munari did not like to talk about his Futurist "origins," although the roots of his research lie precisely in Marinetti’s movement
Attracted above all by Prampolini’s work
Munari glimpsed the limits of Futurism from his early years of collaboration with the group’s artists
he immediately felt the need to go beyond the classical techniques still used by the group’s artists to represent the movement
Also deep and complex is his relationship with Dadaism
from which he inherits an interest in collage and photomontage
Munari differs significantly from the demands of the movement: of Dada he espouses the irony but rejects the destructive charge and nihilistic vocation
The works in the exhibition investigate these links with the historical Avant-gardes
highlighting their affinities and divergences
The Useless Machines and the Concave-Convexes
addresses the theme of Munari’s machines
which ironically declare themselves “useless.” The machine becomes a means of studying the relationship between space and time
the representation of the dynamism of an object and the desire to offer the viewer an engaging enjoyment of the work of art
The same dynamism is sought in the Concave-Convex series
works to be hung from the ceiling obtained by folding a metal mesh
Again the sculpture is free to move in space and casts shifting shadows: in fact it is one of the first installations in the history of Italian art
In the third section Abstractionism and Concrete Art
in his quest to explore the possibilities of abstract form
Concrete Abstractionism frees itself from any narrative residue
focusing exclusively on the relationship between form
The fourth is instead devoted to Travel Sculptures
which originated in the early 1950s as folding sculptures
They will later become emblematic works of the artist’s production: very modern because they are transportable
they fully express Munari’s desire to make a new art
“that better fits today’s life.” More original examples from the 1950s will be on display in the exhibition
The fifth section is entitled Painting with Light: painting for Munari is no longer a static image
but a multiplicity of images in constant mutation (“Painting can also disappear as long as art remains”)
he creates kaleidoscopic and iridescent works: the Polariscops
A research that will also lead him to experiment with Direct Projections and Polarized Projections
visitors will have the opportunity to understand how a Polariscop works
but also - thanks to an immersive environment
created for the occasion - to experience the fruition of these dematerialized works
which move painting into a new space-time dimension
With projections Munari once again anticipated experiences destined for an important evolution in the following decades
will explore Munari’s experiments with the Rank Xerox photocopier
Ten years later a fully automated variant was released
In the early 1960s Munari began to use the photocopying machine as an expressive tool
in effect distorting its function: he transformed
an object created to make replicated images into a means of creating unique and original works
Munari moves images or textures on the photocopier’s platen during the scanning time
thus exploiting this new technology for unusual and unexpected purposes
Then there is a section entitled The Design in which the relationship between design and art for Munari is addressed
both in his texts and through the creation of works that contaminate the two languages
On display - in addition to works such as fabric collages - will be a number of objects designed by the artist with mass production in mind
The relationship with the world of design and production will also be explored in its different aspects with educational panels
the last section is titled Publishing and Advertising: examples of Munari’s interaction with the world of communication (both in the form of his collaboration with magazines and publishing products
and the development of new graphic forms of page layout and the use of fonts and images) cannot be missed in the exhibition
one room will be devoted to his work for Campari
the large red poster and a series of collages and studies for advertising (some also unpublished) from the collection of Galleria Campari
Enriching the exhibition is a space dedicated to experimental workshops offered to schools and children
there will be special guided tours conducted by expert museum staff
In addition to the workshops conducted at MUST
the educational proposal also sees the collaboration of the Civic Library with readings dedicated to children
as well as meetings and lectures by the curators
The Bruno Munari Method Experimentation Workshops for MUST Museo del Territorio take place under the planning
training and supervision of Associazione Bruno Munari (ABM) and are scientifically supervised by Silvana Sperati
The exhibition is part of the museum’s permanent itinerary
and admission to the exhibition also allows visitors to visit the museum tour
The exhibition opens on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m
free for under 14 and people with disabilities
Guided tours every Saturday at 4 pm (2 euros extra)
“The definition of ’artist’ to Munari goes a bit narrow: endowed with imagination
inventiveness and speculative intelligence
he put his many talents at the service of design
a new pedagogical concept and the visual arts
letting the boundaries between these categories be in constant osmosis
is the action of popularizing his artistic production that has been being carried out for years and with great wisdom by such realities as that of the Bruno Munari Association (ABM) and that of Luca Zaffarano’s Munart project
both because of the enormous amount of work that has been done and because of the absence of a well-defined style,” says Luca Zaffarano
“Munari has repeatedly been the subject of exhibitions whose curatorship has limited to observing him from a specific point of view
he has been exhibited in his complexity without any guideline capable of orienting the reading of his multiform body of works.”
“The decision to narrate the artistic production of Bruno Munari,” stresses Elena Lah
“has in itself the desire on the part of the municipal administration to bring art closer to a wide audience
one that wants to overcome the limits of what it does not know in order to play with art
The exhibition has a popular approach and is flanked by in-depth events dedicated to children and adults
to discover together how reality is imbued with beauty
if only we put on the right lenses.”
“In the exhibition,” highlights Silvana Sperati
president of ABM - Associazione Bruno Munari
“a space has been set up and a project of experiences outlined that is useful for offering children the opportunity to come into contact with the artist’s didactic suggestions
In the workshop they will come into contact with the approach suggested by Munari
which in fact retraces the mode and style that he himself put in place in his artistic making
An opportunity to ignite and renew curiosity
discovering the pleasure of making.” The exhibition will be open from Jan
with a special free admission opening on Jan

Italian inverter maker Fimer has completed its purchase of ABB’s manufacturing and R&D sites in Finland
Fimer said the combined business will ship more than 7 GW of inverters this year
Italian inverter manufacturer Fimer has completed the acquisition of the inverter business of Swiss conglomerate ABB which it started in July
Fimer confirmed the transaction included all of ABB’s manufacturing and R&D sites in Finland, India and Italy and 800 employees in 26 different countries
The buyer still has not announced the full cost of the deal and ABB also failed to do so in its July financials
admit it would shoulder six-year costs of around $430 million (€388 million) in relation to the transaction
ABB also said it expected ‘separation costs’ of $40 million as a result of the deal
The new owner said ABB’s inverter business generated around €340 million in revenue last year
“Fimer’s commitment is to continue to create value and maintain existing facilities as well as employment levels
Investment in research and development are of key importance,” the company said in a statement
Fimer decided to maintain both the R&D hub in Finland and manufacturing plants Italy and India.” Those plants will augment the inverter manufacturing facility Fimer owns in Vimercate
The combined business now has around 1,100 employees
The Italian manufacturer said the transaction made it the world’s fourth largest inverter provider
The combined business expects to ship more than 7 GW of inverters this year
which did not mention the fact coronavirus-hit Italy has registered more cases of the virus in Lombardy than in any other Italian region
ABB products will feature the Swiss brand for the time being
“Following the acquisition and integration of ABB’s solar inverter business in the first quarter of 2020
and under the umbrella of the renewed Fimer brand
the newly acquired solar inverter portfolio continues to carry the ABB brand under the trademark license agreement,” the Italian company stated
In September, Fimer and ABB replied to an open letter published by trade body the U.K. Solar Trade Association which was critical of the Swiss brand’s products and customer service
organization said some its members feared the impending takeover of ABB’s inverter business by Fimer would make enforcing warranty claims more difficult and remarked on what members described as poor customer service
ABB said it had taken the necessary steps to ensure the situation would be properly managed and it was in close contact with all affected customers to resolve pending matters
Fimer told pv magazine it would take charge of issues raised by the U.K
trade body before the transfer of the inverter business was finalized

Vimercate, June 12, 2023 – VP Solar has been operating since 1999 in the distribution of components and systems for renewable energy and energy saving
VP Solar has built and consolidated a reputation as a reliable partner with a clear B2B positioning
expert in selecting and testing innovative solutions to be proposed systemically thanks to the engineering approach of its research and development team
VP Solar is committed to sustainability through a long-term vision
contributing to the production and use of decentralized
with 45 employees and a turnover of 300 million euros
the vision of VP Solar has always been to offer totally integrated systems that start with the creation of energy through photovoltaic panels to energy supply through heat pumps
in order to make zero emission homes and companies run greener and with low energy impact
With the entry in January 2022 of the Tadiran Group
an Israeli leader in the sale of solutions for air conditioning
which is already a reference point in Italy for the distribution of solutions for renewable energy
the main European markets for renewable energy are Germany
Several countries show a low maturity in the implementation of integrated energy systems
for example the storage of self-produced energy
often due to the lack of incentive policies
Another important short-term challenge for VP Solar is to position itself on the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) market with an integrated offering that allows companies to produce their own energy in-house
avoiding a total dependence on the electricity system
market conditions allow a company a rapid return on investment
exploiting both incentives related to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan funds and those provided for Italian and European legislation
One of the main motivations behind VP Solar’s focus on GROW with SAP
a comprehensive offering of solutions to enable midsize companies to successfully transition to cloud ERP
was the technological evolution that Tadiran Group is implementing from an SAP on premise (SAP ECC) system to SAP S/4HANA in the private cloud version
which recorded about 700 million sales in 2022
aims to more than double that number within the next three to four years
it must equip itself with new skills and tools suitable for a sustainable development of the business
has also adapted its systems from SAP Business One to SAP S/4HANA Cloud public edition
with a project that started last September and went live in early April of this year
This implementation effectively acted as a pilot and best practice for other companies in the group operating in the same context
This evolution of the company’s technology systems will help managers to control all the processes and business data of the group’s companies more easily
we have focused on the best solution available on the market and we have equipped ourselves with a tool that can support our continuous evolution and that adapts to the specificities of our industry
This change is also reflected in a greater involvement of our people
who feel stimulated by the innovative developments that the company is doing to them to improve efficiency
and to sustain their professional growth,” said Alessio Maso
“With this project VP Solar wanted also to demonstrate its distinctive value compared to direct competitors
using cutting-edge solutions and technologies that competitors do not use yet.”
which includes the SAP S/4HANA Cloud public edition solution
provides many standard best practices that allow companies to understand how to adapt their business models to the new technological evolution
“The project involved a huge effort to review all our processes and in fact GROW with SAP was also a way to deeply understand them and try to improve
This path has allowed us to achieve an overall efficiency of between 20% and 25%
it looks like we no longer have 45 employees but we have the twenty percent more resources,” concludes Maso
“Another aspect of great impact was change management considering that today processes and operational flows and workflow are well defined
with tighter control over data and well-orchestrated information management.”
chosen after two months of selection among the best technology consulting companies
VP Solar initially assessed whether the public cloud version could respond appropriately to its business needs
including a proper management of regulations affecting the renewable energy market
The project started in mid-September then ended in a little over six months
with a series of further developments that are expected in the coming weeks
such as the automatic import of passive invoices and the integration with an external logistics partner with an order process that exceeds the logic of e-mails that automatically will be integrated with the entire management system
you can develop and execute digital transformation projects in the short term
explore new markets or grow through acquisitions
this integrated offering from SAP is an easily replicable solution that allows to have a unique and real-time access to the information and a fast time to value,” said Fabrizio Moneta
director of Mid Market and Channel at SAP Italy

German paper and packaging producer Progroup will construct a new corrugated sheet feeder plant in Italy. After it initially looked as if the plant would be built in Vimercate near Milan
the company has now announced that Cessalto in Ventia has been chosen as location
Construction of the plant is scheduled to start in spring 2023
with production expected to begin in late 2024
Progroup said it would invest €90m in the new facility and create nearly 65 jobs
The site was in the direct vicinity of Italian packaging producer Ondulkart
Progroup is also planning a second construction phase
in which an adjacent packaging park building will be added
In 2021, Progroup had announced the construction of four new corrugated sheet feeder plants in Europe
There had already been quite detailed plans to realise the project in Vimercate in northern Italy
Progroup now reports that this project is on hold
The other three new plants will be erected in Poland
Germany and France and are expected to start operations by 2024
Progroup already operates one corrugated sheet feeder plant in Italy – in Drizzona in Lombardy
That site has a capacity of 100,000 tpy of corrugated sheets and is located adjacent to packaging specialist Imbal Carton

This Swiss giant is following a trend as large multinational high-tech companies see their role as redesigning infrastructure rather than supplying inverters at ever lower margins
Schneider Electric has pulled out of large scale solar
Siemens’ Kaco acquisition and Junelight launch show increasing interest in the C&I and residential markets
and GE is likely to divest its power conversion business due to low profit margins in that sector
Inverter big shot ABB has announced its exit from solar inverters by agreeing Italian power electronics manufacturer Fimer can acquire its PV inverter business
ABB said its inverter business generated $290 million in revenue last year
and services for different types of solar installations held by ABB’s electrification business will be sold to Fimer
“We are glad to announce this further step in our development as Fimer’s focus on the solar business will be greatly enhanced by this integration,” said Fimer CEO Filippo Carzaniga
“Our commitment to positively influencing the energy market will be realized through the development of new product platforms and innovative digital technologies.”
The head of the northern Italian business added: “With a strengthened portfolio we are better placed to shape the future of this increasingly strategic business.”
ABB did not disclose how much Fimer would pay for its inverter unit but did reveal it would shoulder costs of around $430 million in the recently ended three-month period as part of the transaction
That relates to ABB agreeing to cover warranty risks and other liabilities and will be paid to Fimer over six years
“ABB expects up to $40 million of carve-out related separation costs
ABB said disposing of the low-margin unit would help its electrification business reach its overall profit margin aim of 15-19%
Both companies expect the deal to be completed in the first quarter of next year and the sale is subject to conditions being agreed with employee representative bodies. ABB said it intends to retain all 800 inverter business employees, spread across more than 30 countries. The company has manufacturing and R&D sites in Finland, India and Italy
“The divestment is in line with our strategy of ongoing systematic portfolio management to strengthen competitiveness [and] focus on the quality of revenue and higher growth segments,” said Tarak Mehta
president of ABB’s electrification business
“Solar is a well-established and key focus for Fimer and as such we believe them to be a very good owner for ABB’s solar inverter business
The combination of the portfolios under Fimer will support further sales growth
Through our intelligent low and medium-voltage offering
ABB will continue to integrate solar power into a range of smart solutions including smart buildings
energy storage and electric vehicle charging.”
The divestment will bring ABB in line with some of its peers, who are increasingly focusing on internet of things platforms, smart energy and smart EV charging in the low and medium-voltage sector. Inverter businesses such as Schneider Electric are turning their back on utility scale solar while others continue to invest such as Siemens with its recent acquisition of Kaco
IHS Markit analyst Cormac Gilligan told pv magazine
“One of the overarching themes is that multinational industrial manufacturers have
due to the rapid reduction of solar inverter prices over the last few years
certainly squeezed profit margins,” said the solar and energy storage research manager
some players are refocusing on higher growth areas such as smart home and storage or smart EV charging.”
the transition from subsidies to competitive tenders – and now PPAs – meant costs had become immensely competitive in the last couple of years
big multinational technology companies have struggled to meet profit margins and will ditch low-margin business units to lift overall figures
Focusing on other areas enables companies such as Siemens
Schneider – and now ABB – to leverage much more efficiently their digital portfolios
Gilligan said Fimer has been particularly active with central inverters in the utility scale market. Though it has also brought to market string inverters, the analyst believes Fimer can benefit from the technology
production and knowledge transfer it will gain from the transaction
Fimer is likely better positioned to tap into the fast growing commercial and industrial sector and also to cater to string inverter demand in utility scale plants
Fimer has been very active in Latin America, and particularly in Brazil
where it was ranked the second largest supplier for the last five years
The company has also been active in Africa – especially Egypt – and other emerging markets and the ABB transaction will enable the business to exploit its new unit’s marketing channels in India

MILAN (AP) – A man on trial for fraudulent bankruptcy opened fire in Milan’s courthouse Thursday
a co-defendant and a judge before being captured nearly 25 kilometres away as he fled on a motorbike
As the shots rang out in the fortress-like tribunal
court employees barricaded themselves inside their offices and took cover under their desks while police hunted for the gunman who moved unimpeded from one floor to the next
“There was a lot of panic at the beginning when people came running toward us saying there was a person with a pistol who had been shooting,” said lawyer Mirko Ricetti
who said he locked himself in a first-floor court room after hearing a shot
After texting loved ones that they were OK
employees and lawyers were eventually allowed to trickle out of the tribunal
followed by the men who had their court ID cards checked
Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said the suspect was caught by carabinieri police in Vimercate
indicating he had travelled some 25 kilometres (15 miles) from the scene before being captured
An ambulance with escort was seen leaving the Vimercate police station
but it wasn’t immediately clear if the gunman was inside
Prosecutor Edmondo Bruti Liberati said the gunman first fired on his lawyer and co-defendant
killing both and seriously injuring a second co-defendant
and killed the judge,” Bruti Liberati told The Associated Press
He said it wasn’t clear whether there was any relationship between the gunman and the judge
He identified the slain judge as Fernando Ciampi
who worked in the civil section of bankruptcy court
The ANSA news agency identified the gunman as Claudio Giardiello
Bruti Liberati said the gunman was on trial with two others for fraudulent bankruptcy
told RAI state TV the case concerned a failed real estate business and that Giardiello was “very unusual” and “over the top” in his legal dealings
The shooting immediately raised questions about how the man gained entrance to the Fascist-era courthouse with a weapon
given that visitors must pass through metal detectors
The courthouse has metal detectors at the four main entrances
but lawyers and courthouse employees with official IDs are regularly waved through without the additional security screen and accredited employees can drive into the internal garage
Attornies Mirko and Davide Pupo noted that the metal detector from the lawyers’ entrance had been removed several months ago
Employees who emerged after the shooting suggested that the gunman could easily have gained entrance without passing through the metal detector by entering with his lawyer
though other attorneys said their clients routinely are told to go in via the public entrance
said an investigation would determine who was to blame for any security lapse
given also that the gunman wasn’t stopped as he moved from one floor to the next to continue the spree
“There’s no doubt that this episode signals a non-functioning of the protection mechanisms
which must be employed daily and which have worked for years at the Milan tribunal,” he told Sky TG24
Security concerns are particularly high in Milan given the May 1 opening of the Expo world’s fair
was in Milan on Thursday to preside over a public security coordination meeting for Expo when the shooting erupted
