The Washington Commanders have inked a deal with kicker Matt Gay and released Zane Gonzalez
Gay signed a one-year deal worth $4.35 million fully guaranteed and he can earn up to $5 million with incentives, according to a league source. Gay will earn the most guaranteed money on a one-year deal for a kicker in NFL history, according to NFL Network
Earlier this month, Gay was released by the Indianapolis Colts
Gay was 64-of-78 (82.1 percent) on field goal attempts
11 of Gay’s 14 misses came from 50 yards or longer (11-of-22 from that distance)

Gay has a field goal percentage of 85.5 percent (making 165-of-193 attempts)
Gonzalez was the team’s kicker for six regular-season games and throughout Washington’s run to last season’s NFC Championship Game — making the game-winning 37-yard kick to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round
The release will save the team $1.030 million against the cap
The Commanders used four kickers last season: Gonzalez
The quartet combined to go 34-of-42 (81.0 percent) on field goals and 45-of-47 (95.7 percent) on extra points

The Red Raiders were shutout for the first time all season
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Logan Hughes extended his team-best on-base streak to 30 games
but Texas Tech Baseball dropped a rubber-game
16 West Virginia Sunday afternoon at Kendrick Family Ballpark
11-13 Big 12) was shutout for the first time this season
Locked in a pitchers-duel for a large portion of the afternoon, the Red Raiders got three scoreless innings from Zane Petty to keep the contest scoreless heading to the fourth
18-4 Big 12) Jack Kartsonas closed his fourth scoreless inning with back-to-back strikeouts
the Mountaineers broke the ice in their turn in the fourth
using consecutive two-out doubles to plate the games first three runs
The first double was a two-run swing from WVU SS Brody Kresser off the left field wall
while Grant Hussey followed with another RBI double to give the Mountaineers a 3-0 lead
Following a pair of 1-2-3 innings from Karrsonas and Petty, the Red Raiders had their best chance to score a run in the sixth when a lead-off single from Tracer Lopez and a hit-by-pitch brought the tying run to the plate with one out for four and five in the order
The Red Raiders cleanup hitter on the afternoon, Peyton Schulze, lined out to right while Antonelli Savattere struck out
Petty struck out the lead-off batter before WVU used a single from designated hitter Sam White and a double from Logan Sauve to place two runners in scoring position with one out
Petty rebounded to coax a fielder's choice where Tech was able to gun down the runner at the plate to put the second out of the inning on the board before exiting for Lukas Pirko
Pirko needed just one pitch to send the game to the seventh
Pitching well for the third straight weekend
Petty went 5.2 on Sunday allowing seven hits and three runs
In the seventh, Tech again got a lead-off single, this time from first basemen Robin Villeneuve
but Karstsonas was able to retire the next three batters in order to close seven shutout innings
did not walk a batter and struck out seven
WVU added its fourth and fifth runs of the game on a two-run home run for Kyle West in the seventh
With Karstsonas finally out of the game, Tech was to place a runner on against Carson Estridge in the eighth before placing a pair on in the ninth, but Estridge was able to close out the shutout by striking out Davis Rivers on a full-count.
Gay agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with $4.35 million fully guaranteed
He becomes the eighth kicker to sign with Washington in the past 14 months
The Commanders used four kickers during the season
But Seibert missed two games with a hip injury
he missed two extra points and a field goal in a 34-26 loss to Dallas
His second missed extra point would have tied the score with 21 seconds left
Coach Dan Quinn said Seibert suffered a groin injury and he was soon placed on injured reserve
Gonzalez kicked in six games for Washington, making 5 of 7 field goals and all 19 extra point attempts. The Commanders re-signed Gonzalez to a one-year contract in March. Greg Joseph also kicked in one game following Seibert's injury
In 2021-22 Gay made a combined 93.8% of his field goals
second best among kickers who appeared in at least one full season
Gay made just 82.1% of his field goals to rank 24th
A big difference in those stretches: He made 11 of 14 field goals from 50 yards or longer from 2021-22 but only 11 of 22 the past two seasons
The Colts released Gay in April

Zane was a true gentleman and an example of citizenry in a rural community
He helped build Philipsburg not only through his work but also through his service to community
The world would be a better place if more folks were like Zane
I have many fond memories of Zane going back to childhood
and felt quite lucky when he would give a nod
We are all very blessed to have known such a legendary man
The world is a better place for having him to share it with
Zane was a true friend and a gentleman who was always there for us and his community over the years
He always stopped into our shop across the street from the bank
Always reaching out to us and the community and helping and supporting make the community a better place every day
Zane was a great role model my entire life
his community and his religion were very inspiring for me
he has left a strong legacy of a great family
a great community in Philipsburg and a very devout Christian community
Zane and Barbara were like second parents for me
Prayers of solace and beautiful memories to the Murfitt family
A good person whose legacy will last for many generations
We send our condolences to Zane’s family
He always knew us and always said hello or stopped to chat a bit
I’m not sure if Zane started the Holy Family Manager outside the bank at Christmas but it really made me happy to see it each yr
It spoke a lot of the character of the Flint Creek Valley Bank
He will always be remembered in my thoughts
When I remember Zane it is his character that stands out the most
He was honest and direct-he looked you straight in the eye when he spoke to you
You knew that he said what he meant and meant what he said
He and Barbara always made you feel valued and glad to be in their company
I am thankful for the good people that I knew growing up in Philipsburg
The Murfitt family is in my thoughts and prayers
Zane Murfitt was a beacon shining for the tiny community of Philipsburg
He did so much for the community and raised such a nice family with Barbara
I was blessed to have known him in my life
he used to greet me “Bluebird” and my name stuck Everytime he saw me
He helped many in the community and his resolute manner was always appreciated in his dealings at his work
We have lost a true gentleman to the world
we have heard many stories about the man from his Grandaughter
Zane was a great person and will be missed
watching my preschool daughter first become so enamored with “Grandpa Zane” … sweet longtime memories
I saw Zane’s obituary in the Philipsburg Mail last night
what a life he and your family had and gave to so many
I am so grateful to have been in Philipsburg for the concert last August to celebrate his 99th birthday

This will be a one-year deal worth $4.25MM fully guaranteed
That figure represents the highest locked-in total for a kicker on a one-year accord in league history
Pelissero notes Gay’s 2025 earnings can top out at $5MM via incentives
his first year of regular season action since 2021
Cardinal and Panther connected on five of seven field goal attempts for Washington when healthy
with the team cycling though numerous other options during the campaign
One year remained on Gonzelez’s contract; this release will result in $1.03MM in cap savings for the team without generating a dead money charge
Gay’s career accuracy rate sits at 85.5%
He was unable to reach that figure (or match his Rams success) during his two seasons in Indianapolis as issues with long-range attempts proved to be key
Gay missed six field goal attempts in 2024
each of which were at a distance of 50-plus yards
he was a perfect 31-for-31 along with a 100% success rate on extra points
The Commanders entered Tuesday with more than $26MM in cap space
so this move will not alter the team’s post-draft free agent plans
If Gay manages to remain healthy next season
he will likely provide them with a strong option in the kicking game
Log in Register
Washington seems like one of those teams who rarely if ever has a solid
but I am sure that Gonzalez was not going to be that
I don’t think kickers have a lot of trust and confidence in the playing surface in Washington
We know that surface has caused some significant non contact injuries in the past
The winds in the stadium can play strange tricks as well
the same things have been said about Pittsburgh’s playing field
And the Steelers found him in a mid-season

There is not a lot of fluctuation in the standings this week
The Scioto Valley Conference teams continue to be at the top
Highlights: Waverly's boys and girls take top honors at Zane Trace Invitational
After losing only its second game of the year — a 13-2 loss to Jackson on April 18 — the Pioneers have bounced back with three straight wins
Westfall 12-3 (April 21) and Piketon 8-1 (April 23)
Josh Young was on the mound for two of the wins
where he carried the full load of innings and struck out 12 while not giving up a single earned run
The Shermans are on a three-game win streak after dropping two games prior to it
They have wins against Adena (10-0 on April 21)
Logan Elm (9-3 on April 22) and Huntington (8-6 on April 23)
they have gotten wins from Callaway Ratliff
The Sherman had lost eight seniors from last year's team
you now have a formidable pitching rotation
the Mustangs have two wins — a 10-0 win against Adena (April 23) and a 12-7 win against Southeastern (April 17)
That is two wins against SVC opponents who are below in this list
The two losses happen to be against the two teams above them — 12-3 loss to Zane Trace (April 21) and the 6-1 loss to Unioto (April 16)
they don't have the marquee wins needed to move up
They have some firepower — see Brenden Tuttle's home run and Jaden Towler's triple against Adena or his homer against Southeastern
They have pitching — see Cash Conrad's outing against Adena and Noah Stonerock when he is in
They don't get the chance for rematch against Unioto until May 5 and Zane Trace until May 7
The Panthers jump the Huntsmen in the rankings
the Panthers won 7-1 against them on April 21
Gage Cheadle hit a homer and scored three runs against the Huntsmen
Carson McWhorter struck out seven and didn't give up and an earned run
They followed it up with a 10-6 win against Paint Valley on April 23
The game was tied 4-4 but the Panthers scored six runs in the sixth inning to secure the win
The two losses were to teams that are sitting above them in the rankings in Southeastern and Unioto
Their lone win was over Paint Valley (9-7 on April 17) a team that
Last week's 9-7 win over Piketon felt like a showcase of what they are capable of
which is breaking a game open with their offense and then locking down the win
The losses since then feel like they are coming from a team that hasn't been able to recapture that winning feeling
They are still a team that is capable of stringing wins together
Their upcoming schedule includes two teams above them — Westfall (April 25) and Zane Trace (April 30)
that is a recipte for recapturing the magic
It's not a formula for winning consistently
They lost to Portsmouth West 3-2 on April 22 and 3-2 to Meigs on April 19
Those losses bookended wins over South Webster (3-2 on April 21) and 4-3 over Gahanna on April 22
Braylon Spriggs started that game and recorded 18 outs
Portsmouth West walked off for the win in a game where the Tigers out hit them
They had back-to-back wins against Hillsboro this week
where they pulled out close wins each time —5-4 on April 21 and 6-5 on April 22
they scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to come back
and they could be hitting their stride now
The Redstreaks haven't had as many games as other teams since last week's rankings
They won 4-3 against Paint Valley (April 21)
which required a Zack Hannah single RBI to walk it off in the eighth inning
Then they lost 8-1 to Zane Trace (April 23)
This feels like a team that needs a dominating win to spark something
Their upcoming opponents include Wester (April 24)
The Warriors' offense has slumped since their 14-1 win against Piketon on April 14
They have now been shut out in four straight games
In three of those games — Westfall (10-0 on April 23)
Unioto (10-0 on April 21) and Worthington Kilbourne (10-0) — the mercy rule went into effect after the fifth inning
Have they merely been victims of great pitching or is this and offense that can't string together hits
It's a combination of both and they are running out of time to find an answer to the sluggish performances
The Bearcats' losses over the last week include a 19-1 loss to Eastern (April 18)
a 4-3 loss to Piketon (April 21) and a 10-6 loss to Southeastern (April 23)
They played Piketon and Southeastern close
the scores being tied in both of those until losing it late
Strangers on a Beach will star Zane Phillips and Jelani Alladin (Getty)
Fire Island star Zane Phillips and Fellow Travellers lead Jelani Alladin – both out gay actors – will lead queer erotic thriller Strangers on a Beach
which will be directed by Michael Schwartz
and is heralded by the official (and horny) synopsis
“It’s 1983 in San Francisco and a mysterious killer is targeting homosexual men
But Calvin just wants to kiss that handsome stranger.”
Phillips and Alladin will star alongside How to Get Away With Murder‘s Jack Falahee
Nancy Lam (Miss Saigon) and Perry Young (In The Heights)
Schwartz, as reported by Variety, said in a statement that “studio films of that era often reveled in queer subtext,” and that the film is inspired by David Lynch and Brian DePalma’s noir films
That kind of projection carried difficult consequences
“By centring authentically queer voices – all while keeping things scary
sexy and strange – we set out to challenge the biases of both the characters and the audience who watch them.”
Strangers on a Beach will have its world premiere at the Big Apple Film Festival in New York in June
Phillips also recently guest starred in the ‘gay Golden Girls‘ sitcom Mid-Century Modern alongside Bomer
follows a trio of gay besties as they move to Palm Springs to share their golden years
and remember to keep the conversation respectful

From ESPN:
"The Washington Commanders have changed kickers once more. Washington are signing veteran kicker Matt Gay to a one-year deal, prompting the release of Zane Gonzalez, a source confirmed Tuesday.
"Gay agreed to a deal worth up to $5 million with $4.35 fully guaranteed, according to a source. He becomes the eighth kicker to sign with Washington in the last 14 months. The Commanders used four kickers during the season."
Gonzalez signed a one-year extension with Washington back in March before being released. He initially joined the Commanders' practice squad this past season and kicked in six games, the first time he kicked in an NFL game since 2021.
After a successful college career at Arizona State, Gonzalez was drafted by the Cleveland Browns as a seventh-round pick in 2017.
After being waived in his second season, the Cardinals signed Gonzalez to their practice squad in 2018 - where he stayed for three years. Gonzalez made 54 of 66 attempts during his Cardinals career.
Gonzalez was fairly accurate from short distance (17-17 on field goals from the 20-29 yard range and 16-17 on the 30-39 yard range), though he was notorious for missing lengthy kicks during his time in the desert.
He was eventually released in the 2021 offseason and eventually spent time with the Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers. He missed the entire 2022 season with a quad injury.
The Cardinals have settled their own kicking woes with help from Matt Prater and Chad Ryland in recent memory.

There's been a void in the skate scene
have been working on this beautiful book that highlights Zane's life
and it's now ready for purchase.
it seems appropriate to share this news today on Zane‘s birthday that Kathy and I have completed a memory coffee table book on his life entitled “AWAY.” The book is 13“ x 11“ with hundreds of his high resolution photographs documenting his life from beginning to end with narratives from many of his closest friends. We have ordered only 200 books so we anticipate them going quickly
It’s a hardback with the highest grade so it is fairly expensive to print at $65 per unit
We plan on keeping several copies to loan much like a library would if you live in the Encinitas area
Proceeds from this book will go directly into the corporation we have created called "front side away" to fund a documentary on his life
which is currently in the editing process and should be completed within a year to help people remember his name."—Jeff Timpson

he told me Zane would never want this book to be sold or to make money off of it
but Jeff and Kathy will use the money to fund the upcoming documentary they're working on

SearchHeavy and Hopeful: Zane Vickery’s InterloperJen Rose YokelSep 17
Every piece of art holds a piece of the artist
We bring our whole selves to the creation of it
and curating before offering it to an audience
our creations can become sacred ground—deeply personal and meaningfully connective because they have something true to say
The audience’s job is to bear witness and possibly let themselves be changed
So maybe that’s why it’s taken me so long to finally get words around Interloper
Music that sticks with me the most has always been born of honest wrestling
With soul-deep songwriting and a massive sound
tender exploration of what it means to brush up against death and live to pick up the pieces
Hope and forgiveness push back against despair and rage
Some of the album’s standout moments can be the most brutal to listen to
by the rawness of “The Grateful and Grieving,” as he imagines the final hours of the driver who died in the accident
It’s a hard look at the aftermath of a miracle
when the suffering of recovery and survivor’s guilt becomes almost too great to bear
knowing you are “living to die again.” It’s about the acceptance that comes in the end and asking
“What will I do with the time I’ve been given?”
Then there’s “Honest,” a song that exposes and exorcizes the wounds left in a broken father/son relationship
“Not even a phone call and I very nearly died/I can’t let you go
I’ve tried.” Even more striking is the empathy woven into these songs
where would-be villains are imagined as broken humans with their own traumas
Forgiveness is an antidote to rage—for the driver
and the album’s hinge point comes in “The Weight.” Longtime listeners will recognize this as a reworked version of Breezewood’s opener
“Weighted,” but in light of the surrounding songs
these lines take on a whole new depth of meaning:Give me hope
I’ve been so disappointed before…is my grief something to comprehend?I’m sick of making mistakes
look me in the eye and make me sure/That it’s all worth the weight
especially if you have a soft spot for late 90s and 2000s rock (like me)
it’s riffs in “YDWMA” and heavy post-hardcore in “Big Things Coming,” and even a playful 80s pop vibe to the heartfelt love song “Hydrangea” (complete with sax solo)
Thoughtfully produced throwback sounds lend an extra measure of joy to such heavy material
sometimes the best thing we can do is turn up loud guitars and scream back at the darkness
There’s a lot more to say about Interloper
It’s one of those records that continues to deepen with every listen
and really is best experienced from start to finish
Come for the soaring choruses and nostalgic sounds
Stay to bear witness to suffering and healing
and perhaps find yourself and a little healing too
it’s a gift this album exists in the world
You can stream Interloper wherever you listen to music. Also, don’t miss Matt Connor’s conversation with Zane Vickery on The Rabbit Room’s new podcast series, The Deepest Cut.

If you’re a fan of The Oval, you may already be hooked on the spin-off show Ruthless. The show, created by Tyler Perry
follows a brave woman as she navigates life in a dangerous cult.
Black Girl Nerds recently spoke with Michelle Núñez
who plays the young and caring cult member
Here is more about this character and what you can expect from the new season
I read that you had a part in writing Zane’s back story
I felt like I didn’t have a lot of background on [Zane]
but I like having a backstory especially when we’re digging so deep into a character
How did they recruit her?” And he didn’t have an answer
This gave me the freedom to create something on my own.
She doesn’t have anywhere else to go to so that’s why she’s so attached to staying here
What was the most challenging scene that you had to film
There was a scene where I needed to harm another cult member in front of the highest to show him that he had my loyalty
Zane had to make this split-moment decision to harm another cult member so that as the highest watched
What about Zane’s journey is relatable to other women
I feel like she’s so vulnerable and cares so much about the people around her
It also relates to paternal instincts as well
But the maternal instinct has this nurturing caring instinct
and that’s reflected in Zane throughout every season
She cares so deeply for the people that she loves
I really connect with that because I’ll do anything for the people I love
How do you hope audiences perceive Zane’s story
I would love for everyone to be inspired because from Season 1 to Season 5
You see a switch that happens in Season 3 that carries on to the next seasons and S:5 really solidifies Zane as a woman
and she’s lost people that she loves
The growth and the resilience are inspiring to me because she keeps holding on
and she keeps doing what she can to support and love everyone around her
What can audiences expect from this new season
Twists and turns in ways that you just didn’t see coming
They come back with such a strong point that’s being made by the highest and the hand he has over all of us
the two first episodes are just filled with the highest sort of showing us that he does hold all of this power
There are a lot of interesting things that happen within the relationships of all of us who are members of this cult and trying to get away
And some of us aren’t trying to get away
[and are questioning] do you really want to leave
Are you really for the highest Are you not
So there’s a lot of clarity that’s gained
but also a lot of mystery that stays as well.
Anything else that you want to share about Zane’s story
that we have such a great following and an audience
everyone who watches our show is [considered] family
it’s because someone loves Zane or someone connected to our show in some way
to all of us. I just want to say I’m so thankful and so grateful that we’re able to come back season after season and keep fighting for our lives on this show. This is such a fun season to film and shoot at Tyler’s studio in Atlanta
And this has also just been such a great process to just get to know more fans and answer comments
It’s just really humbling and incredible.
To dive back into the cult madness, you can catch Ruthless on BET+
her goal is to write content that inspires others to take action
her goal is to empower women to be their most authentic selves
you can find her dancing to any song any where

— NASCAR is back in action following its only weekend off of the 38-race schedule with a Sunday showdown at Talladega Superspeedway
where the drivers will try to halt the early domination shown by Christopher Bell
Zane Smith continued the qualifying dominance shown the last two years at drafting tracks by winning the pole for Sunday's race at Talladega
It is the first career pole for the second-year Cup Series driver
Dawsonville's Chase Elliott had a lackluster qualifying effort and will start on the outsideof Row 15 in 30th position
Smith turned a lap of 182.174 mph in a Ford during Saturday qualifying to bump Busch in a Chevrolet and Joey Logano in a Ford
Ty Gibbs was the fastest Toyota driver and qualified 10th
Smith's pole-winning run marked the third consecutive pole at Talladega for Front Row: Michael McDowell
Front Row has actually won the pole at six of the last eight drafting tracks
Larson hasn’t slowed down — he did two days of Indianapolis 500 testing earlier this week and then won a World of Outlaws race in Florida on Friday night — but he’s not sure he’s bringing any momentum into the race
“It’s just a normal-ish week for me
sitting in a race car every day,” Larson said Saturday
“I race so often that a week of racing can make the week before feel like a long time ago.”
which would be trouble for the rest of the field if Larson didn’t loathe superspeedway racing
His third-place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the second race this season is his career best on a superspeedway
He’s twice finished fourth at Talladega
and has never cracked the top-10 at Daytona International Speedway
“I enjoy coming here because the crowd is into it here,” Larson said
we haven’t finished well the majority of the time.”
It’s been nine consecutive different winners at Talladega — the longest streak in the history of the 2.66-mile track — which hasn’t had the same driver in victory lane back-to-back since Ryan Blaney in 2019-20
where the 40-car field runs in a pack and drivers must draft off one another to slice through traffic
has many believing luck plays a critical role in deciding the race winner
A driver must avoid the crashes — last year’s playoff race at Talladega featured the biggest crash in NASCAR history when 28 cars were part of a demolition derby with four laps remaining in regulation
than it has ever been in history,” Hamlin said
It is just that the (percentage) numbers have grown.”
7 team to see how we’d come here and try to win the race," Haley said Saturday
“And then after my meetings on Tuesday
I don’t think anything in this sport surprises me anymore
so you have to deal with adversity and change.”
Haley himself was a change in the Spire organization when he replaced Corey LaJoie in the middle of last season
“I came to Spire Motorsports midway through the year
it was a way crazier thing that happened to me than this week,” Haley said
and that’s what we’re trying to do
"That’s what Spire is trying to do
put people in the right places to try to win races
I don’t think they’re scared to do anything to win a race.”

SPRINGFIELD — Zane Conlon put on a reluctant smile
and did all the perfunctory rituals that come with scoring 1,000 career points
yet his mind was elsewhere during the myriad cell phone pictures and camera clicks he took
who verbally committed to NAIA Southeastern University in Lakeland
was thinking ahead to the next round of the PIAA Class 4A state playoffs
after the Tide vanquished a very tough Bishop McDevitt team
2 seed Eastern York next Tuesday in the second round
supporting Reece Craft’s game-high 22
Conlon’s career milestone came with 1:59 to play in the game and the Tide handily ahead
Though Conlon enjoyed the post-game moment of pictures and balloons
he was already looking ahead to the second round
“It was definitely a cool experience (getting 1,000 career points)
but we have bigger goals to reach as a team,” Conlon stressed
We hopefully have a lot of basketball ahead of us
Winning (another) state championship is the goal
I think we can raise our focus to higher levels
and we still haven’t played our best game yet
“We need to be as locked in as possible.”
and the Tide answered with a 10-0 run and grabbed control of the game
midway through the third quarter and took a 65-49 lead into the fourth quarter
who is going to be a future problem for any District 3 team over the next three years—McDevitt 6-foot-2 freshman Damir Arp
who came off the bench to score a team-high 19 points
17 combined in the second and third quarters
and learned this is a team sport and we can all do this together,” Arp said
Tide coach Jason Fisher has placed great stock into his seniors
knowing this is going to be their last journey together after winning two of the last three PIAA Class 3A state champions
The Tide and Fisher got a dose of what it may be like ahead against the Class 4A schools
“It’s dawned on us the last two years how special this senior group is,” Fisher said
“We are blessed to have all six seniors
I think every tournament is a challenge and (Arp) was very good
We try to come out in the beginning of games how we want the game to go
The Tide shot 11 of 16 in the first quarter
Bishop McDevitt (12-12): 15 | 16 | 18 | 14 || 63
Devon Prep (19-4): 25 | 17 | 23 | 12 || 77
getting out to an 11-0 lead and maintaining a double-digit lead throughout much of the opening round Class 6A playoff game
Carroll (18-9) will now advance to play District 3 No
5-seed Wilson in the second round on Tuesday
The Pats were led by junior Alexis Eberz game-high 16 points
followed by freshman Kayla Eberz’s 15
Council Rock South (21-6) ended a highly successful season
winning the Suburban One League Patriot Conference and qualifying for the state playoffs for the first time since 2012
The Pats reached the PIAA Class 6A quarterfinals last season
placing a lot on players like freshman Kayla Eberz and sophomore McFillin
The victory over Council Rock South was Kayla’s first state playoff game
“I feel like we work well together as a team and we knew Council Rock South had a team of good shooters,” Kayla Eberz said
“This was my first state playoff game and our goal is to relax and have fun
We did the scouting and were ready to dig down and do the dirty work
When we lost (to Neumann-Goretti in the Catholic League championship) at the Palestra
Kayla Eberz was a strong spark that Carroll going (Matthew Chin/CoBL)
Kayla scored nine of the Pats’ 17 points in the first quarter
while the Golden Hawks had problems dealing with Carroll’s size
“I’m very proud of my team,” Council Rock South coach Steve Polinsky said
because the standard these girls set is special
“We were down and this team still played hard
This is only the second time we won the Patriot and the second time we went to states
What we will miss is not going to practice next week
We have a flag in the gym that had 2012 on it
and we were able to add 2025 to it.”

The 25-year-old Front Row Motorsports driver was fastest in both rounds of Saturday's qualifying session at the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway and will lead the field to green in Sunday's Jack Link's 500
STARTING LINEUP: Jack Link's 500 at Talladega
"It's something to check off an accomplishment that I've always wanted," Smith said of the pole
and to be ablet get a pole on Sunday now is really cool to say."
he will look to cap off the weekend with his first career NASCAR Cup Series win in Sunday's race
but he knows it'll take a lot more than a fast car at the unpredictable Talladega Superspeedway
tomorrow I can say I'm a race winner in the NASCAR Cup Series
but I know it's going to be a crazy day," Smith explained
Smith's first career pole marks the third consecutive pole position for Front Row Motorsports at Talladega Superspeedway
The speed of his team at this type of track has him excited about his prospects on Sunday
"FRM has always brought a ton of speed
and Fords are always fast on the superspeedways
It makes you maybe a little bit more excited to get to these style of races
knowing that your car is going to be fast," Smith said
The Fords push and race really well together."
The California native secured the pole with an eye-opening 52.565-second (182.174 mph) lap in the final round of Busch Light Pole qualifying
38 Title Max Ford Mustang Darkhorse clocked in 0.132 seconds faster than the next closest competitor
Not a whole lot of my doing," Smith chuckled
"Just off of pit road just making sure I hit my lights
I know my up-to-speed laps were pretty good
that's the main thing we focus on and being as smooth as possible."
who continues to look to snap a winless drought dating back to a victory at World Wide Technology Raceway in June 2023
will start from the outside of the front row in Sunday's race at Talladega
which locked up the second starting spot in Sunday's race

who has had an incredible first season with RFK Racing

Not only is the great qualifying run the best of the opening 10 races for Custer and the No
but it'll mark the first time Custer has started from inside the top-20 this season
Anthony Alfredo was the highest of three drivers
who are driving "Open" entries in the field
The other two Open entries will start in the final two positions of the field as BJ McLeod qualified 38th in the No
Slotting in just ahead of the final two cars in the starting lineup was Justin Haley, who will start from the 37th position in his first race since the departure of crew chief Rodney Childers

Front Row Motorsports isn't unfamiliar with the front row at superspeedways, but it's not a place we've ever seen Zane Smith before today
he was the fastest man at Talladega in both rounds of qualifying
earning his first career pole in his 55th career start
Crew chief Ryan Bergenty was ecstatic and actively celebrating on pit road as his car rocketed to the top of the time charts
Smith's previous best start in the Cup Series is only seventh, coming at Atlanta earlier this year. His lap time at Talladega was simply stunning, beating the No. 8 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet of Kyle Busch by over a tenth (0.132s)
"I wish I could take a lot of the credit for it
So cool -- a pole-sitter in the Cup Series
They've been doing an awesome job this year
Busch was the highest-qualifying Chevrolet
earning his first front row start since winning pole position at Dover one year ago
Hopefully you can hold that position and keep it up front
"All about trying to score some stage points and stay out of the melee
it could even come from behind you and you can be in it
Single-car qualifying around the 2.66-mile superspeedway was completed without any mechanical issues or on-track incidents.
