said people had been “trying to crack” for more than 30 years Andrew Crosby of Xpect Property Development told a story of how 63 students were asked what they would develop on the valuable holding just off Queen St Brealey said there was no point in a residential project because it was not financially feasible Well-located for cruise ship and NZICC trade Don’t need a carpark ratio that would push you into building an expensive basement,” Brealey said four-star hotel above with retail and a through-site link filled with bars and restaurants below “An extension to Britomart but at a more competitive price point.” BusinessDesk reported two years ago that the site was last sold in April 2014 for $26 million Heng Chuang Investment Group is listed as the owner That company is owned by HC Investment Trustee of Victoria Ave please build something here – anything,” said one commenter on Crosby’s post This is one of four projects the practice has designed at Te Arai Links The new home on Te Ara O Kiri Patuparaoa Anake is owned by a person involved in finance in Auckland The architects explained in their NZIA entry that a palimpsest is a “form that embodies writing where each intervention builds upon the traces of what came before” a word the architects explained as “a memory of experience an intentional play on movement between contrasting conditions It carries the imprint of the site – a trace of the beach once experienced -while also registering the ongoing erosion Planning Focus did the applications for consents and other regulatory work Climate Control did the mechanical services and the landscaping was by RTB and Jared Lockhart Design The architects’ description of the work referred to unique architectural elements tree-lined forest compressed movement and filtered light culminating in the sudden openness of the beach “The flicker of light through silhouetted trees creates a dramatic spatial and perceptual transition,” their award entry said “It acts as a counterpoint: both courtyard and pavilion A compressed yet gradual shift emerges between a heightened sense of enclosure to the west and an open black-silhouetted walls toward the projected openness of the eastern end the experience of threshold and transition becomes blurred and informal gradually transforming from one condition to another as you move across the house “The project was conceived as a weekend retreat for a small Auckland-based family designed to be shared with friends and loved ones and intended to endure across generations.” the elevated site is perched on dunes overlooking the Pacific with uninterrupted views of the horizon The surrounding landscape is defined by rugged coastal contours soft undulating dunes and an extensive pine forest creating a unique juxtaposition between land and sea introduces distinctive textures and light conditions to the site which spans across a hectare of rolling sand dunes An interplay of natural elements between forest and beach offers a compelling context The house responds to the openness of the sea while drawing warmth and intimacy from the surrounding woodland The natural context of the site is a balance of exposure and shelter which is intentionally echoed in the architectural response The site within Te Arai Links requires compliance with the Te Arai South design guidelines These covenants require the building to sit within a prescribed platform designated for each site with a maximum building coverage of 1000sq m and a maximum height of 8m above a nominated ground datum The covenants also prescribe aspects of the architectural character required for the development reviewed by a panel to ensure that each site achieves an approach which is subservient to the dominant topography of the immediate landscape and colour saturation compatible with the immediate landscape context membrane roofing or a combination of systems The roof pitch must be no greater than 27.5 degrees A low-lying roof to meet this requirement was achieved in a combination of membrane and profiled metal with a sculptural aluminium perimeter Exterior cladding is typically limited to natural timber steel cladding systems and natural stone but the design committee must approve it “The use of dark textured concrete was not in strict compliance with the design guidelines the poetic reference to the pine trees and coherence with the site allowed for this material to be approved,” the architects said A refined yet durable material palette responds directly to the natural surroundings Precast concrete walls with a scalloped texture echo the rhythm of the surrounding pine tree trunks The textured surface and tint reference the darkness of bark adding depth and character while achieving a low-maintenance exterior the concrete slab with a sculptural tapering underside was coloured to match the surrounding sand That further connected the architecture to the site Steel and concrete timber construction form the levitating square roof The fascia and soffit are finished with Resene Sandtex applied to match the warmth and texture of the parallel concrete slab below and the sand it sits above The remainder of the plan is delineated with sweeping glazed doors which allow for the outlook to be fully appreciated towards the horizon Blurring the threshold between the interior and exterior a continuous slab and ceiling finish is achieved between both the distinctive precast concrete panels carry through seamlessly to define the northern and southern passages Full-height oak panelling and cabinetry form a silky counterpoint to the rugged concrete The wire-brushed timber grain adds a natural element and softness to the palette accented with bespoke blackened and patinated metal hardware Silver travertine stone forms the sculptural kitchen island and working surfaces The warm tones and linear stratification visually connect with the tone A subtle sandblasted limestone in bespoke tile formats is used to achieve the desired arrangements while cohering with the adjacent warm tones of the concrete floor slab both of which are informed by the sand itself material selection has been meticulously considered to anchor the home in its context while achieving the necessary resilience required for the coastal environment The Takapuna Beach Holiday Park is earmarked for the biggest upgrade in almost a century That may cost up to $5 million but could be less Steve Edwards of operator SJE Takapuna said $3.5m to $5m could be spent there but the exact spend had not yet been quantified because it all depends on the consenting process “We have not finalised building details yet because we have to get the resource consent first “I’ve been involved in holiday parks for 24 years We just want to do what’s right for the holiday park and good of the community.” He plans to crane pre-fabricated buildings on to the reserve land which the company has leased for about 33 years “There are a lot of people who do this type of building work We haven’t aligned ourselves with anyone yet It all comes down to the design of the building which will determine how and when we build.” four one-bedroom units and six basic or standard cabins: He can’t give prices to be charged for renting those places per day or week in advance of the development and expansion but says the aim is to make the places affordable for those who stay Edwards and wife Jeanette operate holiday parks in Queenstown Waikuku Beach in north Canterbury and Takapuna Their business did not have one name or brand because in each case it was running separately and connected into the community It’s like something out of the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock film The Birds The Tenancy Tribunal ordered Jill Veronica Watt to pay the fine after her body corporate acted on neighbours’ complaints although it did not go ahead with trying to recoup costs for building painting work Watt acknowledged having a habit of feeding birds in the courtyard of her unit Other Auckland apartment owners then told their stories of units blighted by the birdies Not only did they suspect neighbours feeding birds but they had problems getting proof of such activities But can it be proved that the neighbouring resident enticed his winged friends to the balcony and created all that mess One block even assigned a person to get evidence to bring a complaint Tales from apartment land get increasingly astonishing While the resident was said to be feeding birds Another apartment dweller told of spikes inserted at their building to deter birds It doesn’t sound like avian heaven in those blocks Peter McCarthy, of Symterra bird-deterrent system said bird-feeding causing problems was such a common occurrence cultural practices or boredom results in significant flocks of birds being fed “This has a great impact to a property in mess He has several clients working on buildings where neighbours had been feeding birds it takes a council to get involved as the culprit is adjacent to the building being damaged.” because she continued to feed the birds after requests to stop The $7000 fine was “a very harsh penalty for an individual but will serve as a serious warning for the future” Anne Gibson has been the Herald‘s property editor for 25 years written books and covered property extensively here and overseas Rare plot and popular XD-4 version which in turn replaced the XD-3 launched in 2008 The Arai XD-5 helmet is 100 percent hand-made in Japan where Arai has been making helmets for more than 70 years Built using multiple layers of proprietary materials Arai continues to craft helmets using complex shell laminates beginning with their own exclusive Super Fiber fiberglass shell forms claimed to be 30 percent stronger than traditional fiberglass Bonded by exclusive resin and layered with Arai’s non-woven AR Mat the result is Arai’s intentionally strong shell The Arai XD-5 is certified by Snell M2020D and is DOT-approved Arai’s internal EPS liner system for the new XD-5 follows their tradition of using one-piece These single-piece “absorption liners” are also made by hand and feature unique densities of EPS foam in areas of greater energy absorption needs Arai says it strives to use the softest densities of EPS foam wherever possible as that is the first contact point for a head in an impact (other than the comfort liner) Thanks to their outer shell strength priorities Arai says they can do this more consistently without compromise are designed specifically for each model and size Arai’s helmet construction and energy management philosophy has not changed because Their protection priorities come from absorbing impact energy and “glancing off” obstacles to reduce the amount of energy sent directly into the helmet to be absorbed The XD-5 is designed to be the ultimate multi-purpose helmet Arai says the helmet can shift from off-road to street and excel in all It starts this task by featuring an all-new shell and shield layout for the XD family built to increase smooth shell surface area in critical impact zones above the pivot point for the shield by 20mm – Arai calls this the VAS-A system The entire helmet shape is more egg-shaped on the exterior while keeping its Intermediate Oval interior shape/fit The entry to the helmet is roomier with a wider bottom chin and is 5mm wider at the cheek pads Arai’s interior liner is finely adjustable via cheek There are also seven different thicknesses of cheek pads available from 15mm to 40mm The obvious visual update here is the all-new off-road inspired peak and MaxVision shield plus VAS-A system integrated into the shell now available in tinted and mirrored finishes from Arai follows the contour of the shell using an “optically correct constantly changing radius.” The Pinlock insert fits into a cavity on the inside of the shield Versatility is the XD-5’s game and its three configurations of use around the peak shield and off-road goggles can be set with your bare hands Ventilation is claimed to have increased significantly with 200 percent more airflow coming in the chin vent A higher intake vent behind the logo on the front of the helmet aids flow up top The XD-5’s new peak/visor is built for maximum airflow Comfort is set with an odor-resistant liner and communication convenience is built in to the XD-5 via a re-sculpted Hyper-Ridge with a flatter surface for mounting a device speaker pockets in the ears and pre-installed hook-and-loop make speaker install easier and a wire channel in the neck roll ensures connections stay out of sight The Arai XD-5 tested here in the Discovery Black Frost graphic and with Cardo’s Packtalk Edge speakers wiring and mount installed (but no device) weighs 1814 grams/3.99 pounds List Price: Starting at $839.95 for solid black or white and up to $949.95 for graphics    Outstanding comfort    Outstanding field-of-vision clarity    Great ventilation    Quiet and stable in the wind    Versatile one-helmet solution for many bikes    Mirrored and tinted shields–nice    No photochromic shield options    Arai recommends removing the shield completely for off-road use with goggles We just flip it up and run the goggles underneath the shield When we do this (against their recommendation) you can see the shield in the top of your goggle view The entire staff at Cycle News has been wearing this helmet and is now very familiar with it We do a lot of ADV and standard-style bike tests and guess which helmet makes it easy to always have the right helmet on We even had a contributor ripping Indian cruisers in this thing Arai has undoubtedly improved upon the very popular XD-4 Every small complaint we ever had about the XD-4 has been addressed with greatly improved comfort ventilation and vision taking the best-of podium for the new XD-5 The now-roomier chin zone lets you literally breathe easier and the welcomed airflow makes every ride more comfortable Airflow on the top of your head is better now Nothing beats the faceshield clarity improvements It is simply one of the best helmets for vision on the market with virtually no distortion or glare even with the Pinlock installed Arai’s optional tinted and mirrored/tinted shields are top-notch and a welcome addition to the lineup we just need an auto-tinting photochromic option I’m in between a medium and large for most on-road helmets and the medium Arai fits me like a custom unit after a few pad movements With their micro-adjustable liner pads and vast array of cheek pad thicknesses You can likely get an Arai to fit you well I received none other than the shield blocks our goggle-wearing view off-road a bit when we simply flip the shield up Arai suggests you take the shield off for goggles riding with the shield flipped up is just how it’s done in ADV land having goggle straps stuffed under a flipped-up shield is ADV high-fashion and shows you’re a serious off-road ADV guy/gal it’s sort of silly to just have a dusty shield to deal with when you get back to the pavement and want to flip it down for some miles where will we keep the shield if we take it off I’m searching for something to complain about here I can now remove the visor and shield and put it all back together in less than a minute It’s fun to have a bullet helmet for street bikes But the peak/visor on this helmet flows air with so little restriction I just think I’ll keep it on all the time regardless of the bike I’m riding The Arai XD-5 is a fantastic new standard for ADV/multi-purpose helmets It’s truly a great helmet from the most premium helmet brand To learn more, visit https://www.araiamericas.com/xd-5-variation Timberlake x Nike shoe collab early access Golf at Te Arai is an escape into nature’s raw beauty There’s a certain madness that drives a person to book a 7,700-mile journey to New Zealand’s northern coast The trek from the U.S. to New Zealand is long, but surprisingly easy. One afternoon in early November, my husband and I flew from Nashville, had a quick layover in Los Angeles, and 13 hours later, landed in Auckland. Even after that much time in the air, we felt energized as we began the final leg of our journey — a 90-minute drive from Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, to Te Arai the country’s most stunning golf destination This was a return trip for us. We’d visited six years earlier to play Tara Iti, a private course that debuted at No. 29 on GOLF Magazine’s ranking of the Top 100 Courses in the World in 2017; it has since climbed up to 20th then spent the next two weeks driving from the North Island down to Queenstown After traveling all the way from New York City we decided we could be away from Nashville for a maximum of one week during this second visit and that we wanted the trip to truly feel like a vacation — that meant minimal driving staying in just one room and filling our days with incredible golf and the restorative powers of nature it felt like an obvious choice for an epic experience There’s no way around it: 7,700 miles is a mighty haul for a week-long getaway But when we stood on the 4th tee at Te Arai Links’ South Course staring at a hole that plunges into the Pacific Ocean any hint of sleep deprivation or travel weariness melted away This wasn’t just a round of golf; it was an escape into nature’s raw beauty and a chance to engage with golf at its most spectacular I’ve endured far more arduous travel for far smaller payoffs Te Arai Links sits just south of Tara Iti and is the brainchild of Tara Iti’s developer and managing director — Ric Kayne and Jim Rohrstaff the properties share many of the same qualities both offering a unique blend of natural beauty architectural brilliance and a relaxed yet luxurious atmosphere One big difference between them: Tara Iti is private and Te Arai Links is a 36-hole resort with a membership component Te Arai Links’ North and South courses alternate between being public and private daily to ensure that both courses maintain an exclusive feel while still allowing for public play Despite sharing one piece of land, Te Arai Links’ courses are wildly different. The South Course, a 6,843-yard Coore/Crenshaw design that opened in 2022 captivates with its visual beauty — 14 of its 18 holes are set against the Pacific but also a golfer’s dream in terms of walkability and flow with a focus on shot-making and creativity all while treating golfers to one breathtaking view after another This design balances beauty and playability allowing golfers to soak in the landscape while strategizing about how best to navigate its clever features The North Course, a Tom Doak design that opened in October 2023 The 6,931-yard par-71 layout starts on the Pacific and then heads inland meandering through a huge bowl before returning to the ocean While only seven holes sit directly on the Pacific (the South Course has spoiled us!) With massive fairways that undulate both subtly and dramatically golfers are constantly challenged to think about angles and approach shots The green complexes are some of the boldest I’ve ever encountered The North also has a fantastic halfway house — the fish tacos are a must — available to players on both the 10th and 15th holes Links golf almost always comes with beauty but also with a side of chilly temperatures defies the norm in that its coastal layouts are grassed entirely with fescue meaning they offer a true links experience in a comfortable subtropical climate while summer highs average around 75 degrees Te Arai Links’ attention to detail extends far beyond golf into every aspect of the resort One of the central gathering points at Te Arai Links is Ric’s a beautifully appointed open-all-day restaurant that is surrounded by a 2.5-acre Himalayas-style putting green aptly called the Playground Ric’s isn’t just a place to grab a bite — it’s a social hub even those who aren’t staying or playing on-site and the restaurant’s family-style seating and come-as-you-are vibes encourage interaction creating an atmosphere where it’s easy to meet fellow golfers and locals alike Ric’s warm Scandinavian aesthetic permeates throughout the resort We stayed in a cozy studio cottage that overlooks the driving range natural materials and elevated essentials helped it exude a calming elegance I found myself wishing I could buy it all — the bedding the mugs — to recreate the magic back home in Nashville The Kiwis have a long history of deeply respecting their environment and the team behind Te Arai Links have embraced that ethos with a strong commitment toward sustainability We didn’t find single-use plastics anywhere on the property and water stations with reusable bottles are strategically placed throughout ball markers and pens all made from wood — reflect the resort’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while providing a top-tier luxury experience With two incredible courses already in play and plenty of land available for a third recently adding sport courts and a more formal dining option; a full-service spa is also on the way It’s only a matter of time before it becomes a must-visit destination for golfers and adventure-seekers Ashley Mayo is a freelance writer and passionate golfer with nearly 20 years of golf-media experience A former University of Virginia women’s golfer she now helps golf brands find their voices and connect with golfers through her agency All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team This partnership aims to create EV inverters and vehicle control units specifically designed for Indian EV market Infineon Asia Pacific has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to foster the development of advanced automotive semiconductor solutions for the Indian automotive sector This partnership aims to create EV inverters and vehicle control units that are specifically designed for Indian EV market Both organisations aim to enhance market visibility and promote these drivetrain solutions to drive adoption among automotive manufacturers across the country The scope of the collaboration extends beyond drivetrain components to include the co-development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving (AD) technologies This includes solutions such as blind spot detection (BSD) Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific president and managing director Chua Chee Seong said: “We are delighted to partner with ARAI to bring cutting-edge semiconductor solutions to the Indian automotive industry Don’t let policy changes catch you off guard Stay proactive with real-time data and expert analysis “This collaboration will enable us to combine our technological expertise with ARAI’s extensive knowledge of the local market ultimately driving innovation and enhancing the efficiency of automotive semiconductor solutions in India.” Infineon and ARAI will work to ensure that their products and solutions address and mitigate various cybersecurity challenges in connected cars ARAI Business Development & Corporate Planning Deputy Director Makarand Pathak said: “This alliance will enable the development of sophisticated automotive technologies specifically designed for Indian conditions and requirements we aim to create a robust ecosystem for automotive technology development in India focusing on technologies that enhance vehicle safety India’s automotive research and development organisation ARAI is an an autonomous body under the Indian Ministry of Heavy Industries In December 2024, Infineon partnered with EVE Energy to enhance the development of next-generation battery management systems for the automotive sector The MoU aims to deliver comprehensive solutions aimed at improving the safety Nominations are now open for the prestigious Just Auto Excellence Awards - one of the industry's most recognised programmes celebrating innovation This is your chance to showcase your achievements Don't miss the opportunity to be honoured among the best - submit your nomination today Give your business an edge with our leading industry insights View all newsletters from across the GlobalData Media network By clicking here, you agree to our Terms and Conditions and consent to us collection your details for the purposes of your enquiry The author has made music a central part of the beloved manga series “The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All,” first came to the public’s attention in April 2022 when its author Sumiko Arai posted the first episode to her Twitter it’s become an enormous success and was even published in book form; the first volume was published in April 2023 followed by the second volume in February 2024 winning first place in the Web Manga category of the 2023 Next Manga Awards and second place in the “best manga for female readers” category of 2024 Kono Manga ga Sugoi A large part of the success of “The Guy She Was…” is very simple: It’s an incredibly unique and realistic story the title – “The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All” – might suggest some sort of love story beyond gender But while part of the beginning of the story does have that kind of atmosphere Buy The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All now. The main characters are two high school girls: Mitsuki Koga and Aya Oosawa Despite sitting next to each other in class Mitsuki is “socially awkward,” while Aya has an outgoing There’s virtually no communication between the two in school but their relationship starts to change rapidly via music If you’ve experienced a first love with music the first few episodes will surely bring back some of your nostalgic and bittersweet memories It’s hardly unusual that friendships develop when you hit it off with someone who has the same musical taste that kind of bond can definitely open minds that tend to be closed during adolescence “I think music always helped me” just like the two characters that she created reached something of a turning point in her mid-teens thanks to music I was more like ‘secretly listening’ to my favorite songs And it was only after entering a senior high school when I realized you can find somebody who shares or has sympathy with that feeling Beck was the artist that first captured her musical attention in terms of forming her own image of “rock” more clearly “My father was a big fan of Beck and had all of his CDs so I grew up listening to them probably from my first year of elementary school Beck is an artist that I’ve really liked throughout my entire life I’m inclined to associate the word of ‘rock’ with Nirvana I listen to music without much knowledge of genres It’s like ‘I like it because I like it.’ But I was deeply impressed by so-called ‘grunge’ bands from the ’90s so I was particularly into the artists related to them.” The manga received its own soundtrack album It’s quite exceptional for a series that started only a few years ago Arai is honestly pleased: “I’d say it’s incredible – really like a dream – to have a chance to be involved with compiling a tracklist for a proper CD release and I’m so happy about it.” And she adds: “One of the reasons why I create manga is because I’d like people to empathize with my favorite things I think it’s similar to one of those emotional moments you have when you tell someone about a song you like and they like it too.” all these bands appear on the same album?!” But they are selected based on the storyline of the manga included in a playlist that Aya sent to Mitsuki That’s a far cry from how folks used to share music Although there’s a sort of nostalgia at its core this manga has been read by people from many different countries and I hope it would be adapted for a film some day and would be as widely appreciated as my favorite songs I think there’s something in common in the minds of music fans from all over the world and if I can get a lot more people to sympathize with it in that sense No one still knows when and how it will come to fruition but “The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All” is not only being cherished as an important story for a certain type of person but also as a lovely communication tool in and of itself it’s already brought someone closer to someone else Listen to the The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All soundtrack on Spotify or Apple Music If you've been a motorcycle gear obsessive for at least a few minutes, one design you might recall is the Arai Signet-Q Bomb Created as an homage to '90s-era two-time Japanese 125cc champion Kazuto Sakata the design was (and is) absolutely eye-catching even if you were unfamiliar with his racing career he raced against some of the best in the world including some racers that enthusiasts still talk about in 2024 Like a young up-and-comer named Valentino Rossi Ever heard of him? Nah, I didn't think so. Charmingly, Sakata even acted as a translator for an almost unbelievably young Rossi for a go-kart program that was broadcast on Japanese TV Sakata is now a racing commentator and instructor helping to guide the next generation of racers in Japan and Arai wants to make sure that no one forgets which the famed high-end Japanese motorcycle helmet manufacturer will release in September in Japan Arai sells its helmets in various markets around the world Its helmets are homologated to different standards for different markets and not every helmet is sold in every market even if the same helmet makes it to a different market it might be sold under a different model name The Rapide Neo is also known as the Concept X in some markets The US market currently gets neither of these helmets at the time of writing a fact that I and many others decry regularly the Rapide Neo takes Arai's belief in ultra-round helmet shapes and gives it very retro external styling it's thoroughly modern in terms of features and protection including things like offering Pinlock readiness in its visor This makes it the ideal canvas for retro racing replica designs, like the Wes Cooley one that Arai did a while back the Arai Rapide Neo Sakata will come complete with Snell and JIS homologation at a suggested MSRP of  ¥ 64,900 (about US $447 at the time of writing) if you're in Japan and you're thinking about waiting to buy it please be aware that the price will go up on October 1 Although the Arai Signet-Q Bomb graphic was released in multiple international markets it's not clear at this time when or if Arai has any intention of releasing the Sakata Rapide Neo graphic in international markets outside Japan it's worth noting that Arai Americas does not currently offer either the Rapide Neo or the Concept X in the American Market The Rapide (not the Neo) is available in the UK and the Concept-XE in Europe as of the time of writing Will this remain yet another case of a super cool design (and entire helmet Given the enduring popularity of new retro modern motorcycles helmet designs like this that bring the best of both worlds together (retro design and modern protection) seem like a no-brainer in terms of popularity with riders I'll just be over here keeping my fingers crossed for the moment Is This BMW Sportbike Copy What Happens When You Let AI Design Bikes This Retro-Styled Electric Motorcycle Looks Like a Fun and Practical Daily Ride This Yamaha Scooter's New Colors Are So Cute Suzuki Really Wants You To Test Ride the New DR-Z4S Take a Look At This Stunning Motorcycle Concept Is This the Triumph Sportbike Fairing Kit Of Your Wildest Dreams Indianapolis smart mailbox maker has raised more than $11 million as it readies to go to market  an autonomous delivery platform for modern-day logistics and mail service today announced a change to its Nasdaq ticker symbol As part of its ongoing rebranding efforts and alignment with its strategic vision the company will be transitioning from the previously secured ticker symbol "ARRV" to the new symbol "ARAI." function and form and you’ll find that some helmets carry stories Recently announced for a mid-March 2025 release, the Arai RX-7X Nagashima is the latest replica helmet from the iconic Japanese brand celebrating Japanese racer Tetsuta Nagashima The RX-7X (known as the Corsair-X in some markets) is Arai’s pinnacle of race-derived technology it’s designed for maximum impact dispersion making it a go-to for racers and serious riders alike The helmet has been refined over the years through rigorous development earning a reputation as one of the best track-ready lids in the world But what makes the RX-7X Nagashima unique isn’t just its performance—it’s the design the RX-7X Nagashima’s graphics are striking A splash-style Japanese flag sits atop the lid symbolizing Nagashima’s explosive racing style and unexpected—but there’s more to it than meets the eye This surfing dog is a meme that Nagashima has fully embraced as part of his racing persona becoming synonymous with the rider’s laid-back yet high-energy approach to racing During the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring Nagashima lost control of his Moto2 bike and ended up quite literally surfing on top of it as it slid across the track turning what could have been a disastrous crash into a lighthearted and iconic memory Instead of letting the incident define him negatively he took it in stride—turning what could have been a moment of embarrassment into a signature part of his brand Talk about turning lemons into lemonade.  By embracing and integrating the surfing dog into his helmet design Nagashima not only embraces his past but also sends a very important message: failure isn’t the end—it’s an opportunity to grow And that’s something we can all learn from The RX-7X Nagashima isn’t just another replica lid—it’s a physical representation of resilience It’s a symbol of a racer’s journey and a testament to the culture of motorcycle racing where personality and performance go hand in hand it seems that this helmet is exclusive to the Japanese market But if you ever find yourself in the Land of the Rising Sun this would be one of the most epic souvenirs you could get yourself And let’s be real—that surfing dog is just adorable Legendary Helmet Maker Launches 40th Anniversary in Honor of Jerez Circuit Airoh Ventures Into the E-Bike Helmet World With New Metropolis Schuberth May Have helmet collab Triumph and Arai have partnered on four new helmet designs which will reach UK dealerships in the summer of 2025 This is not the first time Triumph and Arai have been joined at the hip but it might be the most impressive to date Leading off the collaboration is the Triumph Concept-XE helmet design which is aimed at Triumph riders who adore all things ‘modern classic’ the helmet is mostly black with the Triumph logo in white across the side of the lid The stylish Concept-XE also features a multi-coloured stripe down the front Triumph Concept-XE It features a lightweight PB e-cLc shell reinforced with Arai’s proprietary peripheral belt The VAS-VC shield system allows for a lower visor pivot point to maximise a smooth upper shell Then there is the Triumph Quantic design which comes in both a black and stlystic black/white option For those of you who love all things roadster such as the Street and Speed Triple models this helmet has been created with you in mind For easy access on and off the Quantic features a 5mm flare around the base while the VAS MAX vision visor comes with a Pinlock insert ready to use The brushed nylon interior is removable and features Arai’s Facial Contour System (FCS) and a neck roll wire pocket It also features an Emergency Release System (ERS) Triumph Quantic The MX-V Evo is the most quirky of the four helmets in this partnership and is certainly a bold look the MX-V is a motocross and off-road helmet the MX-V’s front and rear vents work together to bring air through the helmet the peak channels airflow in with a design that also reduces lifting The interior is fully removable and adjustable This helmet is also available in sizes XS to XL is for the adventure touring riders out there the Triumph Tour-X5 features a new VAS-A visor system which is designed to maximise Glancing-Off Performance Triumph claims “it provides more surface area to glance off impact energy whilst offering easy installation and removal of the visor and peak.” The ventilation system features Arai’s latest 3D logo duct tying it in together with an AR Spoiler and the Delta Duct 6 which is a completely new chin vent The inner vent gate can flow air to the mouth or visor for increased defogging All four helmets will land in UK dealerships next summer Find all the latest motorcycle news on Visordown.com Next New MotoGP 25 Video Game is Available the Japanese brand’s 2025 line-up but its design is anything but ordinary as it includes a very funny and detailed story. The design, which in typical Arai fashion features a multitude of colours, also features a dog surfing on the back of the helmet and it’s this graphic element of the helmet that has a very particular story behind it. A few years ago Nagashima suffered one of the most bizarre, yet classy crashes in Grand Prix racing as he suffered a violent highside at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, before landing on top of the bike as he skidded across a wet track. As seen in the video below, Nagashima managed to surf his way to a stop which is a key reason for the surfing design aboard the replica RX-X7 Evo, while the dog element to all this is because of his relaxed character. The chin vents are new too, and there are now flat spots on the sides for the easy mounting of intercom systems from the likes of Cardo and Sena. Perhaps the most significant change is the new VAS-A visor system It’s derived from the VAS-V visor found on the RX-7V giving “more surface area to glance off impact energy,” while also making it easier to take off the visor and the peak Arai Tour X5 - evolution and configurations The changes to the Tour X5 mean it complies with the latest ECE 22.06 helmet regulations The previous X4 conformed to the older ECE 22.05 rules I’ve had a Tour X5 on test for several months and hundreds of miles off-road riding at Sweet Lamb Adventure in Wales and trail riding on unpaved public highways It’s been tested with and without the visor enhanced further by the jazzier liveries available including the Cosmic Yellow as seen on my test sample As with every Arai motorcycle helmet I’ve ever worn Visibility through the large visor is excellent and the ventilation keeps everything nicely breezy even when getting hot and sweaty on a tricky trail Vespa 125 Primavera - riding Taking the peak off is a simple case of removing two plastic screws (I used a coin) removing the plastic covers these screws hold on removing the peak and replacing the covers I’m yet to run the X5 with goggles in place of the visor although I have taken it off to fit the supplied Pinlock insert certainly simpler than the fairly convoluted process on the Arai Concept XE I’ve also been testing this year All you need to do is remove those aforementioned covers push in a tab to pop out the larger plastic covers that shroud the visor folding mechanism and position that side visor so it comes free of the helmet and while things do get quieter with the peak removed with a low-pitched rumbling accompanying the ride if you go above 40mph There’s quite a lot of whistling if you run it at lower speeds with the visor up What I find a little more irksome is that the underside of the liner is no more protected than on more road-focused Arai helmets it’s not particularly well protected at all so on a wet ride or one featuring some exuberant water splashes you might feel the liner start to get a bit damp The Tour X5 is priced at the more premium end of the ADV helmet spectrum It’s a really good quality item with loads of new features to keep you both cool and protected both on the road and on the trails The only caveat is if you can live without the new features and increased safety measures retailers are heavily discounting remaining Tour X4 stock so you can get yourself a very similar-looking Arai lid that’ll be very nearly as safe and breezy but for around half the price Something to weigh up before taking the plunge.  it was Dota Arai (JPN) who was followed closely A bronze medallist at the 2024 World Championships he exploited the new rules wonderfully by scoring a waza-ari and two yuko the first two scores with uchi-mata and the third with harai-goshi In the semi-final against Dzhakhongir Madzhidov (TJK) Arai had to settle for a yuko during the golden score period via a counter The final therefore brought together Brazil and Japan thanks to Leonardo Goncalves and Dota Arai The magic of judo is that a contest can be 4 minutes long or even longer with golden score but it can also be less than ten seconds long with Arai performing a perfect de-ashi-barai at the first contact He earned the ippon in style for the 8th gold medal for Japan It was Mukhamed-Ali Mataev (IJF) and Dzhakhongir Madzhidov (TJK) who stepped onto the tatami for the first bronze medal There are contests where one judoka wants it more than the other and this was the case here with Dzhakhongir Madzhidov being more active and pushing Mataev to be penalised three times Azhdar Baghirov (AZE) offered the host country another chance for a medal by facing Niiaz Bilalov (IJF) for the second bronze Baghirov increased the pace to push his opponent but then Bilalov kept the distance and controlled the contest until the final gong to win the bronze medal 2025 / The last three days have been particularly exciting 2025 / Hilal Ozturk (TUR) arrived in Baku full of confidence .. 2025 / The -78 kg category has often seen domination from .. 2025 / When we look at Sanshiro Murao's (JPN) record 2025 / We are used to seeing her on the tatami and especially .. 2025 / The first rounds were perfectly in line with the world .. 2025 / With her world number three ranking and her Olympic .. The resort quickly catapulted to the top of golfers’ bucket lists thanks to two of the top courses in the world designed by Tom Doak (North Course opened Oct 2023) the other by Bill Coore & Ben was the second course to be built at Te Arai Links as well as the third including Tara Iti next door Being the second or third course has its challenges by constantly being compared to its siblings This was Tom Doak’s second course with us here after he did the original at Tara Iti Another challenge is having the second course at the resort be completely different The South Course debuted in its first year as a top 100 course in the world so that is no small feat to compete with that course We think that Tom Doak and his team gave us a course that is completely different than the South Course Golf Digest just named the North Course at Te Arai Links as 36th in the world with the South Course at 40th in the world They can come down and stay at one property and play multiple top ranked bikes - nakeds Arai Concept XE helmet - side The most important change of all for the Concept XE concerns regulation - it conforms to the new ECE 22.06 rules which focus on protecting the rider against rotational forces during an oblique impact but this might well save your life in some accidents It also includes an Emergency Quick Release System (EQRS) so that first responders can easily and safely remove the helmet after an accident.  Arai makes a big deal out of its ‘Glancing Off’ impact protection which the Japanese manufacturer claims lowers the impact energy the helmet needs to absorb by using a “rounder Not that you can tell any of these changes by looking at it Aesthetically the Concept is much the same as the Rapide with its classic Arai-shaped shell and aggressively styled chin bar design with mesh venting You also still get a wide range of finishes from subtle with our chosen Overland Olive Khaki test sample sitting somewhere in the middle It’s noticeably quieter than other Arai helmets I’ve worn in the past Noise suppression hasn’t seemed to have been high up on the brand’s agenda in recent years but there’s a clear difference between the Concept XE and the RX7-GP I’ve been switching between for the last few months a high-pitched whistling from about 40mph and up the source of which I still haven’t found.  Arai Concept XE helmet - inside For riding in warmer weather opened via an easy-to-reach flap on the inside and the usual Arai eyebrow vents in the visor These channel air through to exhaust vents at the rear of the helmet I wore the Concept XE for a European tour in biblically wet weather during which time I had one or two drops of rain coming through either the visor seal or the eyebrow vents The liner did become quite soggy along the bottom and took some time to dry out but given the sheer level of rain and spray the lid had to deal with Removing the visor to switch to one with a smoked lens but putting everything back together proved fiddly have generally been enough to stop excessive fogging make sure you use a well-sized coin for the plastic screws that hold the side panels on and they’re easy to deform if you’re an idiot like me and try a flat-blade screwdriver first It’s likely you’re attracted to the Concept XE for its styling first and foremost but it’s pleasing this doesn’t mean scrimping on safety features completed the ultimate test with the Concept XE That the helmet comes from a brand like Arai combined with all its upgrades to conform to the latest regulations gives peace of mind that the lid should perform as hoped should the worst happen.  Arai helmets are far from the cheapest out there but the value of the Concept XE seems fair and if you aren’t too picky in terms of finishes there are some good deals on the helmet out there when we looked It’s done very little to annoy us - other than the whistling noise the only other less-good elements are a visor system that can be a bit tricky to unlock with your right hand when sat in traffic and some chips in the matte finish which have appeared despite me being pretty careful with the helmet since taking delivery.  Otherwise, it’s one of the best motorcycle helmets we've tried in a while and one that’s become my go-to lid regardless of the kind of bike I’m riding.  Look out for your first newsletter in your inbox soon We help It’s designed for adventure bike and off-road riding but with the peak removed can be used as a road helmet I’ve used it in all conditions on adventure bike launches and group tests in Greece The TX-4 has now been superseded by Arai’s Tour-X 5 Tested by Michael Neeves for 4000 miles MCN’s guide to adventure bike helmets I’ve worn Arai road and racing helmets for most of my biking life and the Tour-X 4 is instantly familiar and a joy to use to its soft interior and even the way it smells It’s easy to slip on and feels like a conventional helmet which is the biggest compliment I can give It has the same rounded R75 shell shape as the Japanese firm’s road helmets (for ‘glance-off’ impact protection) and it fits perfectly out of the box (I’m a medium) 5mm layers of foam in the removable cheek pads and skull cap can be peeled away if it’s too tight and cheek pads can also be replaced with slimmer/thicker accessory versions Weighing 1670g the Tour-X 4 is quite heavy due to the peak and extended off-road chin bar It’s slightly more tiring to wear as a result but I’ve worn it on day-long rides without a problem A clear visor and anti-fog Pinlock come as standard but I mostly use an accessory dark tinted version The visor has widescreen field of vision (although you can always see the peak a classy smoothness in the way it moves and is easy to crack open for extra ventilation It isn’t a two-minute job to change the visor with fiddly plastic screws and fixing plates that need to line up with the visor and peak The new Tour-X5 has a quick release system that gets around the problem The Tour-X4 doesn’t have a drop-down visor For sweaty off-road rides or sun-baked road trips an adventure lid needs good ventilation The Tour-X4 has seven strategically placed intake and five exhaust vents that do the job superbly too and it’s nice snug with no drafts or leaks I’ve only used the Tour-X4 while riding adventure bikes Despite the racket the bikes make the Arai manages to be surprisingly quiet although the peak can cause some buffeting and catch in the wind I’ve never used it without the peak or with goggles The Tour-X4 is a beautiful hand-built creation I’m not a huge fan of the off-road style in general and it looks too storm-trooper-ish with the peak removed I’d always choose to wear a conventional road helmet regardless of the style of bike and only pick something like this for practical reasons It’s hard to fault the Tour-X4’s first class build quality from its plush interior fabrics to the deep durable white paintwork and the way the vents and trims fit perfectly There’s nothing about this Arai that feels cheap or plasticky but now it’s been replaced by the Tour-X 5 there are some stonking deals to be had from retailers’ existing stock there are plenty of other adventure helmets available on the market The Klim Krios Pro combines cutting edge technology and lightweight materials in a comfortable and great-looking package Tested by Ben Clarke for 4000 miles peaked adventure-touring helmet pretty much had two choices the The Shoei is still available on the market today Tested by Richard Newland for 5000 miles Portuguese brand Nexx might not be on the tip of every British biker’s tongue but their X.WED2 is a really great dual-purpose helmet with very little to be found in the way of negatives We included it in our adventure helmet product showcase back in 2020 and it won the test with a maximum 5 stars a peaked adventure lid is useful to protect yourself from flying rocks dust and dirt from other bikes and to keep the sun out of your eyes while being every inch a premium helmet that’s as beautifully made and comfortable as any of their top-level road offerings But do both on and off-road jobs it’s a compromise slightly more fatiguing to wear and the peak is ever-present in your vision and sometimes whips in the wind but the updated Tour-X5’s quick release system gets around that problem Wearing an adventure helmet is part of my road tester’s ‘dressing-up box’ and useful on the dirt but I wouldn’t choose to wear one purely for the road just for its looks Got an Arai Tour-X 4 of your own? Why not get in touch and find out how you can give an owner review for inclusion on this page Tested by Justin Hayzelden for two years Just opening the Arai Tour-X 4 box is an experience in itself Cleverly packaged without the need for tape or staples it’s a masterclass in simple origami and opens to reveal the helmet cocooned in a neatly tied instructions (including a small bottle of silicone lubricant for the visor mechanism) and the Pinlock anti-fog insert Slipping it out of the bag and seeing the graphics in the flesh for the first time actually drew oohs and aahs and then there’s the smell when you first put it on – new Arais have a unique aroma that immerses the wearer in a sensation of quality and craftsmanship I’ve yet to find a helmet that is as pleasant to wear as an Arai the Tour-X 4 may well be the best in the range that it barely feels like there’s anything on your head And that’s from a helmet weighing 1670g (on our scales) The double D-ring strap ensures an infinitely secure fit and the extendable chin spoiler does a great job of keeping the wind out when you don’t want it There’s also very little drag from the aerodynamically designed peak The Tour-X 4 isn’t the quietest of helmets but if you wear earplugs when riding (as I do) wind noise shouldn’t be a problem I tend to use goggles when riding off-road and like the fact that the strap fits with the visor installed if the going gets messy it can also be removed entirely to prevent damage from mud and grit turning the Tour-X into a traditional off-road style lid but consider that it’s essentially three helmets in one and the value should become clear – for trail riding the Arai Tour-X 4 could well be the only helmet you’ll ever need Tested by Michael Guy for five years The Tour-X 4 has certainly been my go-to helmet for a significant chunk of riding I’ve completed over the last five years While Arai claim it works as a grand tourer adventure helmet and for use on naked bikes with the peak removed the vast majority of my riding has been using it for off-road and adventure to riding the Trans Euro Trail in Northern Spain and most recently a trip to Iceland it’s been my helmet of choice for when I need something I can completely trust and rely on After all your helmet is the most important piece of safety equipment we all wear This is actually my second Arai adventure helmet I ran the previous X3 model for the five years prior to getting the X4 One of the key factors that keeps me coming back for more is the fit I wear an XS and unlike other helmets Arai have different outer shell sizes meaning that I’m not wearing a helmet with a large outer shell and lots of padding to make it fit correctly This in turn makes it feel and look better I’ve used the helmet with both clear and a light smoke visor and both give excellent vision and minimal glare The light smoke visor gives the same quality and contrast as a decent pair of sun glasses Compared to a motocross helmet the peak is short but it’s enough to act as a sunshade when the sun is low in the sky or give protection from rocks roosted up by the rider in front by simply dropping your head Despite the peak the smooth lines of the outer shell make it more than acceptable for sustained motorway speeds I always expect the peak to make it feel worse than a regular road helmet but in reality it’s the flawed aerodynamics/screen of the bike that are the issue rather than the helmet My only real gripe is that changing visors is a slow and laborious task which requires removing four easily lose able screws and the peak - Just so you know, we may receive a commission or other compensation from the links on this website - read why you should trust us Celebrating 40 years of their partnership with the Isle of Man TT, Arai have launched their 15th Limited Edition RX-7V Evo IoM TT helmet The lid was designed by long-time Arai collaborator Aldo Drudi (the man behind Valentino Rossi’s lids) and takes inspiration from the race itself Arai describe the RX-7V Evo as the “benchmark” in the lineup with a retail price of £849.99 when helmets hit dealers this summer Some distributors are offering pre-orders now Managing Director for Arai Europe This is always a special moment for all of us at Arai Helmet and the 2024 RX-7V Limited Edition EVO IoM TT is absolutely amazing Drudi Performance has excelled and created something so fresh yet with all the elements of the design that fans and collectors expect We had no idea when we started 15 years ago how important every year’s special TT helmet would become to so many people All I can say now is – roll on next year’s TT!” he was first wobbling around on two wheels at just four years old. When he’s not out riding or covering the latest biking news walking his five rescue pups or wondering why his classic Land Rover has broken down - again By Nye Davis Experienced faller-offer of motorcycles, enjoyer of mud The Arai Tour-X 5 is the latest version of the iconic Japanese manufacturer’s versatile adventure bike and touring motorcycle helmet. It features a raft of improvements over the previous model, the Tour-X 4 which was already a very highly regarded lid and one that has long been my personal favourite from the Arai stable I’ve covered 3,100 miles over the past three months in the new Tour-X 5 to see how it stacks up against its predecessor and the competition I’ve been wearing Arai helmets for over 20 years and the fit has always been perfect straight out of the box – which is why I was a little disappointed to find the Tour-X 5 perched high on my head the first time I tried it on A quick check of the specs revealed that the new inner liner has adjustability front and back which can be achieved by removing peel-away foam pads from around the crown cushion Each pad allows for 5mm of additional room and with the relevant ones displaced the T-X 5 slipped on as neatly as any Arai I’ve ever worn This ability to tailor the fit should do away with the old Arai/Shoei head shape debate and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it introduced on all forthcoming models as a typical example of the company’s steady evolution towards protective perfection the Arai Tour-X 5 cradles the head comfortably without any undue pressure points making the whole assembly feel light and well balanced There’s a sensation of compactness about the shell and like the earlier lid it’s easy to forget that you’re wearing it The materials used ooze premium plushness and quickly wick sweat away plus the entire liner can be removed for a full wash and refresh when needed There is a downside to this luxurious lining though and that is how vulnerable it is to Velcro or other hook and loop style closures It’s only really an issue along the bottom edge where it can come into contact with jacket fastenings but I’ve snagged mine numerous times on a storm collar and it’s starting to look a little tatty What sets the new version apart significantly are the redesigned cheek pads which are noticeably firmer and provide a snug This makes the T-X 5 feel more like a race helmet – a ‘wide aperture’ RX-7 if you will – which adds to the appeal of running it in the peak-less configuration Donning and removing the T-X 5 has been made easier too thanks to a flare in the base of the shell that gives an extra 5mm either side This also means that Arai’s optional ES (‘egg shaped’) chin curtain (£29.99) can be fitted to reduce wind noise and prevent turbulent air from entering from the face area I’ve tried it by switching the one over from my RX-7 and it makes a big difference on colder rides The built in retractable chin spoiler isn’t as effective so I’ll most likely revert to that when the weather is warmer The Arai Tour-X 5 is fully prepped for specs allowing the arms to slip down sculpted channels by the temples I’ve worn glasses for every mile I’ve ridden in it and have never had a moment of discomfort Unlike some helmets that can press the arms against your head and hold frames at a fixed angle the T-X 5 has been designed to let them sit naturally on your nose and ears I have worn some peaked helmets that suffer from buffeting however this has certainly not been the case with the Tour-X 5 I’ve covered hundreds of miles on a KTM 790 Adventure wearing it and felt no adverse effects whatsoever The aerodynamic design slips cleanly through the air The most stand out feature of the T-X5 is the new Variable Axis System (VAS-A) visor system which includes quick release side pods for rapid visor changes where the peak and visor were attached to the shell with screws at either side the T-X5’s peak and side pods come away as one unit at the push of a button after which you just rotate the visor upwards to lift it off is simply the reverse of removal – and it really is that easy The mounting position has been lowered too providing a smoother surface across the temple area for improved ‘glance off’ ability in an impact The visor is larger and more curved than that of the outgoing model providing a clearer view at night (the more pointy T-X 4 visor had a tendency to reflect light in odd patterns at times) and allowing rain to roll off better A clear one is fitted as standard and comes with the all-important Pinlock anti-fog insert including a snazzy rainbow iridium coated item It’s also the first Arai visor that I’ve seen not to have integrated flaps for brow air intakes a consequence of the redesigned ventilation system which is great because I’ve broken a fair few of those in the past there are no stepped positions to the opening mechanism – it operates smoothly from open to closed and There’s no lockable mechanism to keep the visor closed however a small plastic catch does the job perfectly well the visor sits tight against its seal and I’ve yet to suffer any leaks despite subjecting it to some pretty serious rain Even with it cracked open to allow a little airflow for my spectacles The aperture itself offers a fantastic field of vision in all directions and is one of the aspects I’ve always loved about the Tour-X range providing a pleasant sensation of space around your face and no restriction to peripheral view Ventilation was never wanting with the T-X 4 but Arai has managed to find some improvements in developing the 5 The chin vent is double the size of the previous version and it certainly does let a large volume of air through enough for Arai to omit the additional mesh vents of previous versions It has adjustability both inside and out to regulate the flow and direct it either onto your face or up the inside of the visor Front and centre is the innovative Arai 3D logo duct This sits over twin 10mm ports in the shell and draws air in when operated via a single slider at the top closed when the slider sits proud of the logo and open when it’s clicked in The airflow is noticeable as soon as it’s open plus there’s a further three position vent at the top for even more With all this air coming in there needs to be an exit and the T-X 5 has two permanently open exhausts at either side towards the back Above those are three 10mm holes hidden by the spoiler and covered by a three position lever With everything open you don’t need to go too quickly to feel the effect of fresh air passing through and above 40 mph it’s like having air conditioning there does seem to be an increase in airflow however both helmets are so incredibly efficient in this department that it isn’t easy to separate them What I can say is that the Arai Tour-X 5 doesn’t have any localised areas of wind roar and there’s little difference in general noise between riding with or without the peak Although I haven’t tried it with an intercom as yet it is worth mentioning that due to the redesigned interior it’s now possible to fit speakers without having to remove the cheek pads There are also flat surfaces either side to mount an intercom unit and a pocket in the neckroll for tucking away wires round shell shape being the safest profile for a helmet due to its ability to ‘glance off’ organic look associated with all their products With the aerodynamically sculptured peak fitted it has a purposeful and with it removed takes on an aggressive streetfighter style The more rounded shape of the T-X 5 is closer to the RX-7 than to its predecessor and that makes it particularly attractive in peak-less mode – especially when paired up with a dark smoke or rainbow iridium visor Four graphic schemes and seven solid colours are available The helmet on test here is in ‘Discovery Red’ which features a sparkly lacquered finish that makes it look custom painted It’s easily one of my favourite factory designs from any manufacturer but it wasn’t until a recent trip to the factory that I realised what that actually meant There is no automated production line – it’s a completely manual process from the person who pulls the first strands of fibre together to make the laminate weave to the guy who ties a knot in the helmet bag and seals up the box The only robot in the factory is the one which laser cuts the front aperture – and that’s only for the sake of ultimate precision there are 27 stages to production which means that every helmet passes through at least 50 pairs of hands Every Arai employee cares deeply about what they do and there’s no difference between the helmets raced at the top level of motor sport and the ones you can buy off the shelf Each helmet is subjected to five quality control departments during its 18 hour construction so it should be of little surprise that the finished article is built to such a high standard one should step back to appreciate the care and skill that goes into making every single unit and it’s that unquantifiable input that makes Arai products so special The Tour-X 5 is of course no exception and a shining example of that process all external fixtures and fittings are suitably robust and easy to use despite the fact that they are designed to break away easily in an impact The hand applied paint and decals are absolutely on point and as mentioned previously the interior is suitably plush and cosseting but when you look at what goes into production – and what the ultimate goal is the best protection possible – they offer excellent value for money The Tour-X 5 uses Arai’s Peripherally Belted Complex Laminate Construction for the shell to give it both strength and flexibility In essence this involves different layers of fibre matting (Arai’s Super Fibre Laminates) that are bonded together in a sandwich by a special resin with a reinforced band that runs across the top of the front aperture for additional strength it’s that resin which gives Arai helmets their distinctive perfume.)
