Home » Turkish Company Unveils Arida-M Counter-Kamikaze USV System At the SAHA EXPO 2024 Naval News visited Anadolu Robotik’s booth and discussed their innovative solution for counter-kamikaze unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) Known as the “Arida-M,” this innovative system is designed to detect and intercept kamikaze USVs targeting naval combatants offering a new level of protection for critical maritime assets At the heart of the Arida-M system are the “Muhafız” (meaning “Guard” in English) USVs which are tasked with the detection and interception of hostile USVs with a width of 1.3 meters and a displacement of one ton these vessels carry a payload of up to 30 kilograms including sensors and communication systems making them a potent force against incoming threats the Muhafız USVs can achieve speeds of over 50 knots and are operational in sea conditions up to sea state 4 these USVs are capable of both detecting potential threats and avoiding obstacles consists of 50 kilograms of explosives designed to neutralize enemy vessels upon impact The Arida-M system consists of several critical components: a control center a long-range infrared electro-optical sensor The system’s primary role is to secure strategic assets both fixed (such as ports and coastal facilities) and mobile platforms (including ships) It employs a multi-layered detection and response strategy to defend against threats like kamikaze USVs Arida-M operates by deploying the Muhafız USVs from either a warship or shore-based facilities the system enhances situational awareness through radar It assesses the threat environment and engages hostile targets when necessary ensuring security is maintained in accordance with pre-defined protocols Although Arida-M is still under development Anadolu Robotik has already begun testing the concept using 1/30 scale models at sea Full-scale sea trials are expected to begin within three months marking a significant step toward operational deployment Anadolu Robotik has partnered with Turkish defense company Sekiz Altmis to provide communication systems for the Muhafız USVs The vessels are equipped with RF and satellite communication systems and LTE communication can be added depending on customer needs The primary function of the Arida-M system is to safeguard strategic maritime assets the system provides a robust defense against a wide range of asymmetric threats Arida-M has the potential to become a game-changing solution for both Turkish and international defense clients offering advanced protection in a rapidly evolving threat landscape The effectiveness of kamikaze USVs was starkly demonstrated during Ukraine’s attacks in the Russia-Ukraine war This development has significantly altered the paradigms of naval warfare as billion-dollar warships have been challenged by relatively inexpensive These incidents have underscored the urgent need for innovative solutions to counter such threats While guided and unguided weapon systems have been employed so far the firing channels and weapon systems of ships are likely to become overwhelmed This has highlighted the necessity for new approaches to defense against both UAV and USV swarm tactics robotic warfare stands out as a promising technology for the future AI-supported anti-kamikaze USVs offer great potential for the early detection and interception of these threats When combined with a ship’s existing guided and unguided weapon systems these robotic solutions could form a multi-layered defense strategy effectively neutralizing the threat before it can cause damage the Arida-M anti-kamikaze system represents a significant step forward in addressing this challenge It lays the foundation for even more advanced and innovative countermeasures in the future as navies worldwide prepare for the next generation of maritime threats Naval News brings you news coverage of the latest naval defense shows & events We are also reporting on naval technology from all over the world Please enable JS and disable any ad blocker Before departing after 20years as a teacher at Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills Holly Arida asked her advanced entrepreneurship class to “design my next gig.” The assignment got them thinking not only of their own futures but also about the futures of others. “They decided that what they were learning collectively was very valuable and wanted to continue it for Detroit youth,” Arida says. So in 2022, she and the students created the nonprofit YouthTank Detroit “with the moon shot” to turn it into an entrepreneurship trade school for Detroit high schoolers and met with private and public partners.” Arida says YouthTank Detroit was established to provide students free entrepreneurial guidance and the opportunity to develop transferable technical and professional leadership skills to “feed the talent pipeline to Detroit’s economic growth and community prosperity.” The program which also offers internship opportunities Arida discovered the importance of entrepreneurship at an early age she opened the Detroit franchise of the courier service Aramex after her freshman year at the University of Michigan where she obtained an undergraduate history degree at the Dearborn campus and later a master’s degree in modern Middle Eastern and North African studies at the U-M Rackham Graduate School Arida made a career pivot and began teaching a course at Cranbrook Schools called Current Middle East Conflicts “I had been a successful entrepreneur and was simply called to teach after the tragedy of 9/11,” she says “I knew a lot about the Middle East and felt it was a part of the world people needed to understand.” Arida later developed “Bridge the Divide,” a partnership initiative with Cranbrook and public school students to prepare learners from different socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds to work together on collaborative leadership projects that benefited the community she ran a summer entrepreneurship program at TechTown in Detroit she helped create at Cranbrook “Department X,” an innovative project-based entrepreneurship and leadership curriculum some of whom were peer leaders and worked with 53 high schoolers Projects included performing research on mobility infrastructure for the electric vehicle startup Treehouse at NewLab and a neighborhood mobility hub initiative that used coding and artificial intelligence to make recommendations to the Office of Mobility Innovation Arida says that new initiatives this year include introducing an intense engineering practicum that will meet several times a week in partnership with the startup JustAir and launching an after-school program for high schoolers to bring a product to market sold at Yellow Light on Michigan Central’s first floor Arida is more than satisfied with her latest career pivot “Looking out at the city in every direction from the fifth floor of Michigan Central with our partners and students and seeing through the eyes of young people what they see for the future of our city and what they imagine is the highest honor and responsibility for me.” This story originally appeared in the December 2024 issue of Hour Detroit magazine. The campaign aimed to confront viewers with the harsh reality of everyday comments and their impact The campaign focuses on how online abuse is often dismissed as “virtual” despite its tangible effects Nour Arida and Haifa Wehbe stressed that words written online are not harmless They carry weight and can lead to real-world consequences, with some perpetrators carrying out their threats in real life. Nour Arida drove the point home, stating Nour Arida shared how online harassment doesn’t stop at her—it extends to her family. Even pictures with her young daughter have attracted sexualized comments. “What gives them the right?” was the question raised Both women highlighted how harassment strips women of their humanity “They see the Arab woman not as if she is a woman This dehumanization fosters a culture where abuse becomes normalized Arida shared how these comments make her second-guess her choices even though she has always stood by her right to wear what makes her feel good: “This is my body I will never be ashamed of being a woman.” The video concludes with an urgent call to action the campaign hopes to dismantle the power of harassers “Freedom is the most valuable thing you possess. Don’t let anyone take away your freedom,” Nour Arida and Haifa Wehbe assert Harassment Isn’t Virtual is a movement to challenge societal norms Nour Arida and Haifa Wehbe’s campaign shines a spotlight on a pressing issue that affects countless women worldwide By sharing their experiences and calling for action they’ve taken a significant step in breaking the silence surrounding online harassment and everyone has a role in creating a safer WE SAID THIS: Don’t Miss… Taking Charge of the Story: How Passive Voices Affects Sexual Harassment Victims Guest writers who have worthy insights on pressing matters that they feel the need to share with the world the IDF attacked Hezbollah’s weapons smuggling routes from Syria to Lebanon A notable strike was carried out at the Al-Arida crossing The crossing is between the village of Arida in the Akkar district in northern Lebanon and the Syrian Tartus district focusing on goods from the Syrian ports in northwest Syria (Tartus/Baniyas/Latakia) and from the Lebanese port of Tripoli Before the beginning of the Syrian civil war the crossing was also used for tourist traffic between the two countries it served as a transit point for Syrian refugees entering Lebanon The location of this crossing is optimal for transferring weapons and even Iranian oil arriving via the maritime route of the Iranian corridor (with an emphasis on the port of Baniyas) it is transferred south through the land routes on highways M1 and 2 to Lebanon via the crossing The crossing can also serve as an alternative route if weapons come from the Homs area (via the M1 lateral highway from east to west) and cannot be brought through the Al-Qusayr area or one of the other northern crossings The northern crossings may gain renewed importance in the near future depending on the success of the rebels’ advance south towards Homs Iran and Hezbollah will likely accelerate the transfer of weapons to Lebanon to prevent them from falling into the hands of the rebels Alma is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) education and research organization made possible in part by the Galila Foundation A road roller is at work near the reopened Al-Arida border crossing connecting Lebanon and Syria on Nov Syrian state media and monitoring groups reported People walk near the reopened Al-Arida border crossing connecting Lebanon and Syria on Nov A man pushes a cart near the reopened Al-Arida border crossing connecting Lebanon and Syria on Nov A man walks near the reopened Al-Arida border crossing connecting Lebanon and Syria on Nov 2024 shows the reopened Al-Arida border crossing connecting Lebanon and Syria The West Japan Railway Company has built a 3D-printed train station in Japan's Arida City the structure was assembled within six hours The new Hatsushima Station reportedly serves about 530 passengers each day along a quiet train line The automated station was built using pre-made parts crafted by Serendix a construction company hired by the railway These 3D printed parts were produced in a factory in Kumamoto Prefecture on Kyushu Island The process of printing and reinforcing the components with concrete took seven days Traditional construction near active train lines is slow and tricky construction takes place over several months while the trains are not running every night," said Kunihiro Handa Strict rules limit work to overnight hours to keep services running smoothly during the day But this 3D-printing method changed the game ALSO SEE: Japanese Trains To Be Equipped With Anti-Knife Umbrellas For Passengers; Here’s Why dozens of locals gathered to watch history unfold they carefully placed each mortar-based 3D printed segments into position was fully assembled before the first train pulled in at 5:45 a.m the station isn't fully ready for passengers yet The ticket machines and ID card readers are yet to be fully installed reduced the construction time from over two months and twice as cheap ALSO SEE: Alien Invasion In Japan? Volume 14 - 2020 | https://doi.org/10.3389/fnbeh.2020.626769 This article is part of the Research TopicThe Complex Biopsychosocial Interactions that Create Stress ResilienceView all 12 articles Increasing attention has been given to understanding resilience to brain diseases often described as brain or cognitive reserve Among the protective factors for the development of resilience physical activity/exercise has been considered to play an important role Exercise is known to induce many positive effects on the brain exercise represents an important tool to influence neurodevelopment and shape the adult brain to react to life's challenges exercise intervention has been associated with cognitive improvement and stress resilience in humans and animal models a growing number of studies have demonstrated that exercise not only recovers or minimizes cognitive deficits by inducing better neuroplasticity and cognitive reserve but also counteracts brain pathology This is evidenced before disease onset or after it has been established we aimed to present encouraging data from current clinical and pre-clinical neuroscience research and discuss the possible biological mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of physical exercise on resilience We consider the implication of physical exercise for resilience from brain development to aging and for some neurological diseases the literature indicates that brain/cognitive reserve built up by regular exercise in several stages of life prepares the brain to be more resilient to cognitive impairment and consequently to brain pathology Studies have used resilience measurement scales to be applied in general and clinical populations and the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) presents suitable psychometric properties and allows for valuable measurement of resilience (Campbell-Sills and Stein, 2007; Smith et al., 2008; Windle et al., 2011) Adapted version of brief resilience scale has been large used to this purpose We focused on the impact of exercise on psychosocial stressors with regard to educational (cognitive performance) Design of intervention studies on brain resilience in this review Exercise during pre-natal period and its effect on brain offspring (infancy and adolescence) (2) Exercise during post-natal brain development (infancy and adolescence) and its effect in later life The literature search was conducted between February and August 2020 A comprehensive PubMed search was conducted to identify studies investigating the role of exercise in brain resilience Studies identified were selected and excluded by examining the titles Studies that did not address physical activity/exercise for brain resilience in either clinical or pre-clinical studies were excluded The terms physical activity, exercise, and physical fitness are often used in the literature, and for clarification it is important to differentiate these denominations. For instance, physical activity has been used interchangeably with the term exercise.” The frequently cited article by Caspersen et al. (1985) defines physical activity as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles which results in energy expenditure while exercise is a physical activity that is planned physical fitness is characterized by a number of components that an individual achieves related to health Being physically active is not necessarily the same as having high aerobic fitness Of the 147 potentially relevant articles from the PubMed database 12 studies addressed physical exercise for brain resilience Most were excluded because they did not address physical activity/exercise (n = 92) or the brain resilience outcome (n = 43) To conduct a scoping review looking at all life stages and some neurological conditions we included 114 more studies through a free search on pregnancy (n = 9) we will present the translational contribution of physical exercise to brain resilience and in neurobiological conditions in the following order: physical exercise in pregnancy Investigations on the influence of exercise at earlier stages of brain development have been encouraging including exercise interventions on pre- and post-natal brain development These outcomes suggest that routine exercise before and during the pre-natal period may produce benefits for infants' and adolescents' academic performance whether pre-natal exercise contributes to brain resilience at later stages of life has not been explored in humans Animal studies have provided promising data and are highlighted elsewhere in this review These findings indicate that pre-natal sensory-motor stimulation induces accelerated brain maturation in early post-natal life indicating that exercise during the peri-natal period may increase brain function in offspring in adult life positive early life experiences such as physical exercise during the gestational period may persist in offspring and may consequently play an important role in increasing brain resilience in later life The long-term effects of exercise during pregnancy on the offspring indicating that increased BDNF expression induced by exercise during gestation may improve brain function in the offspring voluntary wheel running during pregnancy reduced beta-amyloid plaque burden and neurovascular dysfunction in offspring at 5 months of age suggesting that pre-natal physical activity may also contribute to reducing the future risk of neurological diseases physical activity at 15 and 25 years induced better cognitive performance at 62 and 85 years of age These findings indicate that regular physical activity in early life is able to improve cognitive functioning supporting the cognitive reserve hypothesis confirmatory studies have yet to be conducted in further human studies these findings suggest that the cognitive reserve built up in physically fit subjects in the early stages of life prepare the brain to be more resilient to cognitive impairment and consequently Alzheimer's pathology; this probably occurs through brain plasticity the scientific literature presents strong indicators that habitual physical/sport activities at an early age may boost lifelong brain function and may also reduce the risk of several brain disorders These findings also indicate that physical exercise during this critical period of brain development can result in sustained cognitive benefits in a neural reserve that can be useful in old age the combined effects of neurotropic factors and physical exercise from childhood to adolescence may contribute to improvements in memory and also in various aspects of academic performance consequently preventing or minimizing age-associated cognitive decline indicating that brain BDNF in early life induced by exercise may be associated with cognitive improvement highlighting preventive strategies for this disease While the existing literature indicates the positive association of exercise and BDNF on cognition further investigations are necessary in elderly and neurological subjects These findings on brain plasticity induced by exercise are believed to support the improvement in learning and cognitive function Besides the neuroprotective effects against aging and an extensive number of studies looking at the prevention or minimizing of cognitive decline and dementia regular physical exercise has had a positive influence in other neurological diseases we will focus on some common neurological disorders such Parkinson's to evaluate physical activity/exercise level epidemiological studies have utilized different activities to measure moderate to vigorous exercise or energy expended on physical activity in kilocalories per week one must be cautious when analyzing these outcomes With regard to the concept that resilience is an active process the reduced disability and non-motor symptoms observed in PD could be minimized through regular physical exercise the mechanisms and possible directions for neuroprotection in PD have been significantly explored but more research is needed on the influence of exercise in this scenario in humans They found up to 40–50% lower incidence of epilepsy in cross-country ski racers before retirement data sub-analyses demonstrated that faster ski racers had a significant lower incidence of epilepsy compared to those with a slower finishing time Both above findings are indicative that regular physical exercise and better physical fitness can be protective against developing epilepsy Although further research in humans is needed the efficacy of exercise programs in improving cognitive functions in animal models of epilepsy have been very positive and play a beneficial role in increasing resilience to developing epilepsy The authors suggest that physical exercise during early periods of life may provide an adequate development of neural circuitry which can support greater brain damage in later life these studies reinforce the neuroprotective and rehabilitative influence of exercise in epilepsy it can be suggested that exercise might modulate these effects in this condition therefore building brain resilience against epilepsy individuals had a 20 and 27% lower stroke risk Although vigorous exercise is more effective it seems that people who usually exercise at moderate levels can also see some benefit in preventing stroke Considering that participating in moderate activity applies to the much of the population this issue may be better explored in future studies A beneficial effect on systolic blood pressure and fasting glucose was observed after stroke compared to non-aerobic exercise More investigations using physical training programs will provide a better perception of this intervention (aerobic exercise) for improving resilience to stroke higher levels of physical activity and exercise are important factors in reducing the risk for cardiovascular diseases and consequently increasing resilience for stroke In addition to physical disability and cognitive impairments, social factors are also common in stroke patients, notably changes in depressive symptoms, and social desirability. In a survey with stroke survivors, feelings of depression, fatigue, and low motivation were found to be factors that reduced the desire to undertake physical activity, while self-determination and goal achievement were related with greater involvement in physical activities (Morris et al., 2012) healthy habits early or during the life course might influence healthier behaviors and cognitive recovery after stroke Several mechanisms by which physical exercise exerts an effect in the prevention of and recovery from stroke are similar from those observed in the neurological diseases mentioned above. Acute ischemic stroke patients reporting a high level of physical activity prior to stroke were associated with greater VEGF expression and good outcomes after stroke (López-Cancio et al., 2017) the pre-clinical findings clearly demonstrate that exercise has an important effect on metabolic and neurotrophic influences which can explain its role in brain health and supportive action in terms of both resilience to and prevention of stroke Model of how exercise can confers brain resilience Exercise positively influences brain and cognitive reserve by multiple pathways protecting against the consequences of stressful events Disturbance of these systems could lead to hyperactivity of the HPA-axis sympathetic activation and systemic inflammation there are still unanswered questions concerning (1) whether physical exercise in early life can prevent or delay cognitive decline in later life (2) the effectiveness of exercise programs for individuals across the life span and for those with neurological diseases and (3) how much exercise is necessary to gain beneficial effects on cognitive health This is a field of research that deserves more attention it is unquestionable that multiple interacting factors including nutritional status and the link between genes and environment mediated by epigenetic changes that occur at critical periods of development may confer vulnerability or resilience to brain disorders this review provides an insight into the current evidence of physical exercise's contribution to the increase in resilience and brain tolerance to aging More biggest retail stores in the Middle East Nour has taken on a new venture as fashion designer by co-creating a line of children’s clothing called Generation Peace But before her days of influence on social media Nour was a buyer at one of the biggest retail stores in the Middle East I learned a lot about consumer behavior and the mechanisms of fashion in general After being on social media for several years and how people are responding and reacting to what I have to offer them I have never taken on a collaboration with a brand or a product that I don’t believe in that I haven’t thoroughly researched,” says Nour “and I think that that has instilled a sort of trust between me and my followers.” The venture was inspired by her daughter Ayla and the challenges Nour faces to getting her dressed “Ayla wants to go out in tutus and princess dresses in the most unimaginable ways; whereas I always want her to be in a subtler outfits where she’s comfortable at the same time.” Out of this mother daughter fashion struggle “I wanted to close the gap between what kids want to wear and their specific tastes that our dresses are very practical in terms of cuts and can be worn for at least 2 years without kids outgrowing them,” shares Nour With her experience as a fashion buyer and her rising influence and collaboration with brands Nour felt ready to launch something that holds her name as well as put her fashion industry experience to use Nour solely believes that adults can empower children to be a leading voices of change and because Nour’s followers have been enthralled with her relationship with Ayla the influencer mom and activist saw an opportunity to empower children with a new clothing line Collaborating with designer Rebecca Zaatar the two have created a line that evokes conversation about the current state of the world I genuinely believe parents need to teach their kids the values they need by being a living example in front of them It doesn’t mean everyone should be perfect I believe even making mistakes is a great way to actually teach valuable lessons to your child,” says Nour “I’m also am a big advocate of freedom of speech Letting our kids’ personality and way of thinking grow as much as needed but not limiting them — that’s how you empower them in my opinion.” Nour’s philosophy can be seen as different to the Middle Eastern way of life “Let children live the experience of gender equality by seeing how you deal with life matters at home And let them stand up to bullying by seeing you as a parent do so I believe there’s still a lot to do in that section in the Middle East specifically,” she continues Launching during the pandemic and the uniqueness Generation Peace brings to the children’s clothing industry Launching during a pandemic has been stressful for Nour and her team but they have succeeded in getting Generation Peace off the ground I still can’t believe that we were able to launch on time It was probably the most stressful months of our lives We were on lockdown for the first two months of this year so we had to deal with the whole process via Zoom “I was told by people around me that it would be practically impossible to do so Another specific concern was the safety of everyone working and shooting a massive campaign during a pandemic It took a lot of preparations and attention to details as well as a whole lot of testing and isolation And while Generation Peace is a fashion brand for kids  “We want mothers to enter a whole world with Generation Peace where they’ll find DIY activities for their kids tips on how to deal with their children (from reputable psychologists) and then get out of it feeling better and reassured,” she notes This is what brings distinction and uniqueness to Generation Peace and other children’s clothing brands “Our clothes are a perfect middle ground between practical and cool This sounds like an easy and simple sentence; but is definitely very challenging to apply.” the collection includes drawings of her daughter Ayla and prints of signs of freedom like gender quality what Nour believes is the bridge between parents and children we have several options of comfy onesies (that range around $58); for our unisex pieces it was important for us to have this section You’ll find jogging sets and t-shirts ($44) for both boys and girls; for girls we have full sets as well as practical dresses; and for boys we have two types of sets made of a very comfortable summery crinkled cotton texture LEBANON- Generation Peace is a sustain children's clothing brand with a philosophy of .. More letting go of our current world and reimagine it with those innocent young souls at the helm instead they explain how the packaging can be used as a coloring canvas for kids making sure parents have more reasons to make use of it and not just throw it away There it’s also explained how fabrics from our clothes don’t go to waste but are used to create accessories like bandanas and scrunchies to complement various looks in the collection “We also studied our cuts a lot so we don’t offer clothes that kids will outgrow in a few months,” says Nour the shapes are created in a way that a child can wear an outfit for the longest time possible - encouraging people to slow down while shopping and perhaps to shop less frequently There’s still a lot to do for our brand to reach the desired and ultimate goal of sustainability; but we’re always learning Nour and Rebecca have created a brand that stands up to but at the same time stands beside societal and cultural norms in the Middle East They have created a bridge between kids’ tastes and parents’ concerns of practicality they are giving children an empowering voice a voice that kids haven’t normally had in the region especially when it comes to gender equality Generation Peace’s message is simple: let go of our current world and reimagine it with those innocent young souls at the helm instead Please view the main text area of the page by skipping the main menu. Now, Chiou sits down in Arida's chair about once a month for a fresh cut. After some catching up on Chiou’s dogsitting adventures and Arida’s trip to Miami, Arida gets to work. “Are we doing a mid-skin fade? We doing what we usually do?” Arida asks. “Get the hair out of your eyes, texturize it?” Chiou agrees to the usual: a cut that’s tapered in the back and a little longer in the front. M Arida gets to work cutting Aaron Chiou's hair. (Jesse Costa/WBUR)Years ago, Arida, who is now 41, said they would feel frustrated getting their hair cut as a queer and nonbinary person. “I would go to barbershops, and it was fine,” they said. “I never had like, a bad experience there, but I was like, they're not really my people, exactly, you know?” When they found themselves without a job in 2017, they enrolled in a course at New England Hair Academy in Malden. They dreamed of one day opening a shop that created a welcoming space for the queer community. “Wouldn't it be dope if there was like a barber shop, but it was all queer people, or there were like queer people in there cutting hair, or queer people hanging out,” Arida said. They loved the idea of a casual, communal vibe for queer folks getting a cut. While it's easier to find those type of barber shops in cities like New York and Los Angeles, Arida said that to their knowledge, they became the first barber in the Boston area to market specifically to the queer community in 2019. Today, clients who are ultra-masculine, nonbinary, gay women and people of all gender identities come to Arida’s chair to freshen up their looks. M Arida uses snips the ends of Aaron Chiou’s hair at Barbershop Deluxe. (Jesse Costa/WBUR)A couple years ago, Arida started promoting their barber skills on social media, posting hundreds of short videos and garnering millions of views. As of February, they had more than 73,000 Instagram followers and nearly 24,000 TikTok followers. Each video shows Arida asking clients about their preferred pronouns, their relationship with their hair, and their hairstyle inspiration. Many clients shared that their relationship with their hair can be complicated. Some come to Arida seeking drastic changes. Some of the more viral videos feature a client cutting their hair short for the first time, with Arida supporting them along the way. Arida said they’re surprised by the attention the videos have gotten — both positive and negative. “Sometimes it trips me up when people send me like, hate DMs. And I'm like, ‘I'm just over here making my, like, dumb little haircut videos.’ Like, I don't know, ‘Why are you getting so mad?’ ” Arida said. “I'm just like, yeah, queer people need to get their hair cut, and they shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable.” Arida said they’re careful to protect clients’ identities, and they never tag them in videos. Arida said they’ve seen increased demand for their services as their social media popularity grew, and have a long waiting list. They said they decided to raise their prices and limit their working hours to 40 a week in order to keep their business sustainable. Social media follows have hyped Arida for offering “gender-affirming haircuts.” And Arida said they want their chair to be a place that helps all people feel more comfortable with themselves. “I just don't think that a lot of cis people, like, think about it that way, because they don't really have to,” they said. “People feel good after a haircut. Everybody does. And I think it's because they feel, like, more affirmed in their appearance, and gender presentation is part of your appearance.” Arida said many clients also use their hair as a tool to help figure out their own gender identities. “Getting a haircut, like, you don't need to go, like, see a doctor. You don't need a prescription. You don't need insurance,” they said. “It's a thing that, if you're struggling with your appearance, and this goes for anybody ... it's something that you can do to help yourself.” M Arida grabs a pair of hair clippers before working on a client. (Jesse Costa/WBUR)That’s how client Aaron Chiou began his own gender transition. He bought a pair of clippers in high school, but it wasn’t until he was in college that he said he felt ready to cut his hair short. A decade later, Arida finishes the final touches on Chiou’s cut. It’s cut close to the skin at the base of his neck, and is left long enough to run his fingers through near his forehead. “I think it looks great,” Chiou says as he admired his new look in the mirror. “Feels good, too.” M Arida gives Aaron Chiou his usual trim. we have done a lot of collaborations in programming “So it is not only about the museum’s premises; it’s about an important tool for the cultural sector It is a public space that can cater to a very wide audience; Sursock Museum is free of charge This is what makes it even more urgent to rebuild and reopen.” Arida’s career in the Lebanese museum and cultural sector spans over twenty years she was the director of the Arab Image Foundation (AIF) she set up and managed various artistic and photographic preservation projects in the Middle East She also served as a board member of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) from 2006 to 2012 and was a member of the Prince Claus Fund Network Partner Committee from 2007 to 2013 She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of MUCEM Marseille; I was commenting on Phoenix's statement who brought up a good point In recent years I have not seen indigenous Christians in the Middle East doing such things as I asked about I was asking for examples where they have done these things as other sects we have roads shut down with burning tires in some areas every time certain folks don't get their way and we also have certain areas shooting our precious LAF soldiers on a regular basis I was hoping for a good dialog based on specific facts without name calling
