About 30 people dressed as tengu paraded for the Tengu Matsuri festival
which was organized by a local group aiming to revitalize the local community
near the Shiroko Meitengai shopping street on Feb
which had been held for about 10 years beginning in 1951
was dedicated to the tengu — gods of preventing fires
Once boasting a huge procession of 150 participants
the festival was an opportunity to pray for postwar reconstruction and the safety of the community
It was revived in 1992 by the Meitengai shopping street and continued until around 2010
The parade was brought back this year by a group engaged in revitalizing the local community through such events as a theater festival
The group used tengu costumes and tools that had been kept in a local warehouse
and participants were invited from inside and outside the city
Wearing red costumes and masks and holding sticks and feather fans
the participants walked about 2.5 kilometers
“I’m glad we were able to revive this traditional event,” said Naoto Okamura
“We’d like to continue it into the future.”

Fujieda Junshin and Jumonji advance to final of the 31st All Japan High School Women's Football Championship
the semi-finals of the 31st All Japan High School Women's Football Championship took place at Noevir Stadium Kobe
The first match between Sakuyo High School (Chugoku 1/Okayama) and Fujieda Junshin High School (Tokai 1/Shizuoka) saw Fujieda Junshin dictate the pace from the outset
The Shizuoka side dominated the ball possession while applying plenty of pressure to prevent Sakuyo from initiating counterattacks
Sakuyo changed their approach and started to make attempts to deliver long balls into the space behind the opposing defence line
it was Fujieda Junshin who capitalised on the next opportunity
the shot taken by SHIMOYOSHI Yui ricocheted off a Sakuyo defender before finding the back of the net
Sakuyo shifted their system to a three-back formation and utilised their substitutions
but couldn’t find ways to score the equaliser
as Fujieda Junshin advanced to the final with a 1-0 victory
The second match between Jumonji High School (Kanto 1/Tokyo) and Hinomoto Gakuen High School (Kansai 2/Hyogo) saw both teams apply aggressive pressure and engage in fierce battles all over the field
Hinomoto Gakuen pursued their passing football
while Jumonji attempted to attack down the flanks by elevating their side-backs
but both sides ended the first half with few shots on target
A golden moment arrived for Hinomoto Gakuen in the 58th minute
when TAKAHASHI Ayu was fouled inside the box to earn a spot kick
but Jumonji’s HASEGAWA Kokoro made a brilliant save to keep the clean sheet intact
as Jumonji broke the deadlock in the 85th minute with the goal of MIYAKE Mahiro
Hinomoto Gakuen responded just a minute later
when TANAKA Haruna converted a deflection of a shot to send the match into penalties
Jumonji’s goalkeeper Hasegawa once again rose to the occasion
making two saves to help the Tokyo side advance to the final
SHIMOYOSHI Yui (Fujieda Junshin High School)From our scouting report
we knew that our opponents were going to seek for their chances to counter us
so we were alerted even while we were possessing the ball
Our coach has always told me to make conscious efforts to take shots whenever I have a chance
I felt very relieved and happy when I heard the final whistle
I am happy that I was able to contribute to the team’s victory by scoring a goal
Coach (Sakuyo High School)We allowed our opponents to freely build their attacks from the flanks and were out matches in terms of the number of set pieces and shots taken in the first half
so a score of 0-0 at the break was within our game plan
Although the players showed great concentration in the second half
we were unable to capitalise on our opportunities when we had the momentum on our side
HASEGAWA Kokoro (Jumonji High School)It was a tough match from the start
and we didn’t know what would happen until the very end
I was able to keep my composure and did not commit myself until the opponents kicked the ball
The fact that I was able to stop a spot kick during the match helped me make those two saves
We will continue to communicate and work hard as a team at the final
Coach (Hinomoto Gakuen High School)I was very pleased to see our players display the passing football we have worked all year
The team really came together a week before the tournament and I think the players have grown a lot since then
we also demonstrated our passing football skills
but I think this time we were able to do so with much higher quality
I believe that if we play our football with all our might throughout the year

All Japan High School Women's Football Championship by Year
Fujieda Junshin crowned champions for the sixth time
- The 31st All Japan High School Women's Football Championship
the 31st All Japan High School Women's Football Championship final took place at Noevir Stadium Kobe
where Fujieda Junshin High School (Tokai 1/Shizuoka) was crowned as champions for the sixth time
The match between Fujieda Junshin and Jumonji High School (Kanto 1/Tokyo) saw the two sides fiercely battle for the ball to take the initiative
Jumonji’s MURAYAMA Mami struck a shot from the edge of the box that was headed towards the left corner of the goal
but Fujieda Junshin’s goalkeeper KIKUCHI Yuan was there to make a fine save
Fujieda Junshin also came close to taking the lead when they struck shots in the 41st and 42nd minutes
The second half saw Fujieda Junshin applying even more pressure from the frontline to force turnovers in the opposing territory
Jumonji also pressed up their fullbacks to utilise the width of the pitch
which led to the opportunity created in the 52nd minute
when ASAKA Miyu struck a header off of a cross delivered by NOMURA Ami
The deadlock was broken in the 68th minute
when Fujieda Junshin’s YAMADA Ayumi forced a turnover near the Jumonji penalty area before sending a cross towards the goal
It was MASANO Runa who made the run from the far side
superbly controlled the ball to evade the goalkeeper
Jumonji used their substitutions to bring in more offensive players
but fell short from finding the back of the net
as Fujieda Junshin held onto the one goal lead to claim the title
Coach (Fujieda Junshin High School)Facing a very strong opponent
we were expecting the match to be a close one
the players fought very patiently to exploit the opponents’ weaknesses and capitalised on the one opportunity
I told Masano that if she kept on working hard for the team
the ball will eventually roll towards her way
I am very pleased with the efforts the players have put forth to achieve this victory
MASANO Runa (Fujieda Junshin High School)I entered today's game with the goal of making plays to help the team win because I haven't been able to score since the first round
I've received support and advice from my teammates and coaches to help me get out of this rut
I'm grateful beyond words to my teammates for having faith in me despite my struggles
Coach (Jumonji High School)We were just a tad short
We gave our best to possess the ball and apply pressure from the frontline
The injured players also played a key role as assistant coaches to help us reach the final
SUGIYAMA Haruna (Jumonji High School)We entered the final with a sense of gratitude and determination
With our captains and other key players injured
so I was determined to do whatever I can to help the team
I am not sure if we were able to leave everything on the pitch
but we must try to make the most of this experience in the future
Fujieda Junshin capture national title in the All Japan High School Women's Football Championship
Fujieda Junshin High School edged Kamimura Gakuen High School 3-2 in the 24th All Japan High School Women's Football Championship on 10 January
Fujieda Junshin grabbed their first title in nine years and it was the second-ever championship for them
Fujieda Junshin High School (Tokai 1/Shizuoka) 3-2 (1-2
2-0) Kamimura Gakuen High School(Kyushu 1/Kagoshima)
The motivation levels for the championship by both teams were shown from the beginning
and IWASHITA Kurumi received the ball in the box and provided a pass to KIMOTSUKI Moe
Kimotsuki shed a defender and made a shot into the right side of the goal
when WATANABE Rena who trotted into the near side of the goal reacting to a cross from OGAWA Ai from the left side
had a heel shot with her left leg into the goal mouth
They attacked on the space behind Kamimura Gakuen's defensive line
mainly having their offensive plays in the left side
Fujieda Junshin players were sharp in reacting to loose balls and quickly tried to get the ball back as soon as their opponents had it
Yet it was Kamimura Gakuen who scored the next goal
who had moved from the one-top position to the left side
dribbled up and fed a cross into the mid field
Watanabe scooped a loose ball and fired a shot from a little outside the box
The shot went in to put Kamimura Gakuen ahead
who played emphasizing on their offence a little more and it widened the distances between their own players
Kamimura Gakuen attempted to get the ball at higher spots defensively
But Fujieda Junshin's strong will to score prevailed on 60th minute
Their vertical pass was once about to be intercepted
but they managed to show their toughness in batting for the ball and got it back
Kimotsuki reacted to a last pass from Iwashita scored her second goal of the day
Kimotsuki continued to do her job afterwards
and then provided a perfect pass to right side-back ABE Yukina
who was running into the box with a slant route
Abe directly put it into the goal to give Fujieda Junshin a 3-2 lead
Kamimura Gakuen nearly scored a game-tying goal with an attack from a side in the 63rd minute
and attempted to activate their offence making some player substitutions
But Fujieda Junshin kept moving their legs and playing with high concentration
and wounds up retaining their lead until the final whistle
the Fujieda Junshin players bursted into the joy on their title
Match details (Japanese version only)
Coach (Fujieda Junshin High School)Suppose my expectation for last year's team was a scale 100
it wasn't even the half of it for this year's team
I thought that maybe this team wouldn't be able to advance to the national championship
I was talking with our staff that we would at least want to go to the national championship
and that team wound up winning the championship
This team might have had some points that didn't match our last year's team
But we had some players who were able to kick the ball precisely
so we tried to build a team who could have slow offence and fast offence both
Our players made great growth in this past one year
Coach (Kamimura Gakuen High School)Against technically-advanced Fujieda Junshin
but they were also running and had the strengths competing for the ball
And we allowed them to have the ball longer
I think that it hurt us like a body blow that we had hard times getting the ball
Kamimura Gakuen was a team who came up to this point with their defence
so it was a complete loss for us as we gave up three goals today
Yet the players didn't change the way of their football
KIMOTSUKI Moe (Fujieda Junshin High School)I hurt myself during the summer
but I tried to give a payback to our trainer for having given me cares to get the pains away as much as possible everyday
it gives you damage in terms of competing for your spot on your team
but I thought that working on what I could do would lead to the championship and worked as hard as I could
I didn't think of playing the whole game fully
but focused on how harder I could play at every moment and played at a full throttle from the beginning
I was able to display who I was more than any other games in this tournament
but I'm relieved that I did my job in the very final contest
HASHITANI Suguri (Kamimura Gakuen High School)I'm very disappointed
so thought that playing patiently would be important
We were talking to each other that we would switch our mindset even when I give up a goal
so my game-tying goal was a result of having rest my mind
I learned throughout this tournament that you have to do your best especially when you struggle to come up with positive outcomes
I want our younger players to definitely capture a national championship

Fujieda Junshin and Shizuoka SSU Asregina among the teams advancing through to the second round of the Empress's Cup JFA 43rd Japan Women's Football Championship
The Empress's Cup JFA 43rd Japan Women's Football Championship kicked off on Saturday 27 November
as eight fixtures of the first round took place
from high school teams to prefectural league teams and Nadeshiko League teams
In the match between Norddea Hokkaido (Hokkaido)
who played their first year in Nadeshiko League Division 2
and Fujieda Junshin High School (Tokai/Shizuoka)
who won the All Japan High School Women's Soccer Tournament for the second year in a row
it was Fujieda Junshin who took the initiative through their spectacular dribbling skills
Although Norddea had the advantage in terms of size
Fujieda Junshin was able to evade the pressure and score the first goal in the 36th minute
the high school side continued to showcase their dominance
as they created more opportunities while keeping the Norddea offence at bay
After being kept without a single shot in the first half
Norddea made two changes during halftime to change the dynamics of the match
the Hokkaido side conceded back to back goals to Fujieda Junshin in the second half
as MASANO Runa and YAMADA Ayumi each scored a goal to extend the lead
Fujieda Junshin won the match 3-0 to reach the second round for the second time in three years
The match between Shizuoka SSU Asregina (Tokai/Shizuoka)
who finished third in their first year in Nadeshiko League Division 2
and FC Fujizakura Yamanashi (Kanto/ Yamanashi)
who qualified for the Empress's Cup for the first time
as the winner was decided by penalty shootout
It was the Yamanashi side who struck first
as NANJO Rio scored the opener in the 23rd minute with a shot taken from mid-range
Shizuoka responded by scoring back to back goals
as YAMADA Yui scored the equaliser with a spectacular header in the 35th minute
followed by a powerful shot struck by 17 year old MIYOSHI Akane in the 37th minute
the champions of Yamanashi Prefectural League anticipated for their opportunity to level the match by effectively mixing in counterattacks
who has played for the Chinese Taipei Women's National Team
quickly delivered the ball to SHIMIZU Chiharu to initiate their attacks
Their efforts finally came to fruition when TSUJINO Yumiko scored the equaliser in the 82nd minute
as the match entered penalty shootout to decide which team would advance to the second round
After both sides successfully converted their first nine spot kicks
Goalkeeper TAKAHASHI Miharu converted the 11th penalty to give Shizuoka the lead
before Yamanashi’s eleventh kicker Tsai shanked the ball to the left
Coach (Norddea Hokkaido)We knew we were up against a team that would apply high pressure
so we had been training to evade that pressure
the defence line could not get in good position and kept getting caught
we have been focusing on developing our individual abilities in the Nadeshiko Second Division
it didn’t translate to the improvement of the overall strength of the team
We will strive to achieve better results next season
Coach (Fujieda Junshin High School)Now that the team has qualified for the All Japan High School Women's Football Championship
there are many third-year players who are showing good performances
and I feel that the competition within the team has become more intense
We will continue to play against higher-ranked teams at the Empress's Cup
but I hope that the players will keep their challenging spirit
I want the players to pursue the same level of performance
MF #23 FUJIWARA Kana (Shizuoka SSU Asregina)Although we managed to make it through to the second round
we are usually a team that can connect the ball
so I think we could have played with a little more distance between each other
we couldn’t find our rhythm in offence and create good attacks
so it is a match we don’t want to lose
We will reset our minds ahead of the second round
MF #14 NANJO Rio (FC Fujizakura Yamanashi)Although we missed our opportunity to get promoted to the Nadeshiko League this season
we wanted to prove the strength of Fujizakura by causing an upset at the Empress’s Cup
I entered the match with a strong determination to score goals
We were able to play the football we wanted to play and enjoyed the match
I feel like this year was a year that I grew the most as a football player

Cambodian football starlet Chan Vathanaka is hoping his move to Japan will help catapault his club and international career to the next level after completing a move to J3 League side Fujieda MYFC in a one-year loan deal
The 23-year-old Boeung Ket Angkor forward sees the move as a great opportunity to eventually play in the Japanese top flight J-League
He told a press conference at the weekend: “Some people think that with my abilities I should be playing higher than the third division
but I want to help Fujieda win the J3 League title first.” Fujieda finished last season in seventh position
Boeung Ket general manager Be Makara called it a wonderful opportunity and hailed it a milestone in Cambodian football as Vathanaka became the first player from the Kingdom to play in Japan
He said: “We are sending one of our key players to Japan with Vathanaka becoming the first Cambodian to play in a professional league in Japan

Vathanaka added: “I will try my best to help my new club achieve its goals
and I hope I will gain new experiences in Japan and enhance my skills to get to the next level – in doing so this will help my national team become stronger

National Senior (O-60) Football Championship opens in Fujieda
The 14th National Senior (O-60) Football Championship and the Senior (O-70) Football Festival both opened in Fujieda
Shizuoka as the first sec matches of the group round took place on the first day of the events
This event is to determine the best team of this generation in the country
Participating players are all highly motivated
西村博治 of Osaka Senior 60 (Osaka) who used to play together with Kamamoto Kunishige for Yanmar and also on the national team said “We have worked with other teams around Osaka in real-game-like practices
and worked on how we play together.” Meanwhile 三谷淳一 of Tokushima Kabarosu Senior 60 (Tokushima) said “Our over-60 players and over-70 players have got together every Sunday
and we have done many practices.” Each team seems to be very well-prepared
the match between Shizuoka Selection (Shizuoka)
and Kochi Syowa OB Club (Kochi) ended up with a draw
Miyagi Fenix SC (Miyagi) defeated Chiba Shijugara SC (Chiba) 1-0 and started off as the only team that got three points to lead the group
Osaka Senior 60 which are looking to win the second consecutive championships took on Fukuoka Rokujyugara Football Club (Fukuoka) in a group B match
Osaka won it 2-0 as 西村 and 永井利明 each scored a goal apiece
Tokushima Kabarosu Senior 60 now follow Osaka Senior 60 only by goal differences after edging Senior Okayama FC (Okayama) with defending the lone goal scored by both teams in the match and getting three points
The Group C had Hamamatsu Kaido Club (Shizuoka) and Tokyo Select (Lazos 27
Tokyo) start off with a 4-0 win against Iwate 60 and a 2-0 win against Kagoshima SFC O-60 respectively
Hamamatsu Kaido Club scored all four goals in the first half
which showed their offense was being very hot
SUPER GOAL 3 (Hokkaido) had a 1-1 tie match against Hiroshima Select 60 and both clubs got one point each
Hyogo Senior 60 are now leading the rest of the group after beating Shinshu Wakuwaku Football Club (Nagano) 2-1
Today as the second day of the championship
the second sec and the third sec matches will take place
Which clubs will come out of the each group as winners
SUZUKI, Fukuoka Rokujyugara Football ClubWe couldn’t possess the ball
we started putting early pressure on their ball
but still we couldn’t take it until we shot it
it’s just fun to play football at this stage of my life
but that’s why it’s so much fun
all I cared was “me getting better” individually
Now it’s fun to work with my teammates for a win
Hopefully I will keep my energy and playing football until the last moment of my life
Osaka Senior 60It’s good that we won this match
and we could play together with the same mindset today
I meet long-time friends all over the country once again and we ask each other “Have you been doing all right?” When I was young
so I want our national team to play hard in Brazil
Tokushima Kabarosu Senior 60Early in the match
but the opponent’s defensive line was high
so I told our midfielders to attack the space behind it
and I am glad that I helped my team to win that way
One of the interesting parts of playing football at this age is simply the more you practice
Talent and potential don’t matter very much anymore
I don’t have much talent to kick the ball
but I can compete with my ability to keep running
Senior Okayama FCYou can say it’s just the result of our team’s level at this point
Now we don’t care about the loss any more
It’s just fun to get together with teammates and represent our prefecture in a national tournament at this stage of our lives
but today our drinks will taste even better
Then we will come out to play the next match
and anything is possible just like in our life
We don’t set a finish line by ourselves
We just keep running until the finishing moment comes by itself

Hitsujigaoka look for a back-to-back win in the following top-two showdown against Furukawa
The second day of the tournament has the second and third matchdays on Sunday 28 June
which will determine the top four teams advancing to the final round
MACHIDA Takayuki (FC Maebashi 50/ Gunma)Sunpu Football's players had high passing quality toward space behind our defensive line
It was good we kept a clean sheet and move onto the next even in such a situation.
I broke three of my fingers in the Kanto Qualifiers and need to play with screws in my fingers
Football is a sport you can play at no matter what age you are
Chasing a single ball with everyone together is also a good thing
I will keep up my work to enjoy the tournament with this team as long as possible
OIKAWA Koji (Sunpu Football Club/ Shizuoka)It was more like we lost three points than we got a draw
we rather played with mindset "not to give away a goal," and went a bit negative
As someone who played in the tournament for over 40
The appeal of football is we can aim to enjoy
we can play in various ways such as using strong and weak passes differently
KANEMOTO Makoto (Kagawa Senior 50/ Kagawa)We've got to get at least one point
The national tournament is fun as expected
It's not within the prefecture and Shikoku
The advantage of playing here is we can find out the level of ourselves on the national stage through exchanges with teams from other prefectures
you can get closer to the level of players who you used to have no chance against
I don't have as much stamina as myself in 20's
but my controlling skill is still improving
I'm happy to touch the ball more than before
SONODA Katsuo (Mitsubishi Juko Nagasaki Senior/Nagasaki)I thought we would win while playing
but the opposing defence was too solid for us to get a goal
I'm disappointing because I wanted to win for the sake of my friends coming to cheer for me as well
We will go out to get two wins tomorrow and get through to the final round
And we as Nagasaki Senior will show our presence around the nation.
It's in more friendly manner compared to the one for over 40
I'm happy to work hard together and kick the ball with my teammates at this age
